In de VS heeft oliemaatschappij Chevronhet voor alkaar gekregen een advocaat naar de gevangenis te sturen, die zich verzette tegen de fossiele brandstof industrie en in Groot-Brittannie overwege rechters of onderzoeksjournalist Julian Assange uitgeleverd kan worden aan de VS, een journalist die niets anders dan zijn werk deed…… Gezien het voorgaande moeten westerse landen ophouden met het spreken over mensenrechtenschendingen aan de andere kant van de wereld. Zo begint Caitlin Johnstone haar nieuwste artikel.
Vervolgens stelt Caitlin dat het belangrijk is om te onthouden dat voor Julian Assange uit de Ecuadoraanse ambassade werd gesleept, de journalisten van de reguliere westerse media, die zij liberaal noemt (moet zijn: neoliberaal), Julian Assange hebben besmeurd met smerige leugens en hem hebben bespot telkens als hij in het nieuws kwam…… Deze houding van zijn ‘collega’s’ hebben ervoor gezorgd dat men in het westen geen probleem had met de gijzeling van Assange (want daar komt zijn gevangenschap op neer…..)…..
Julian Assange zou zijn rechtszaak voor uitlevering niet hebben kunnen bijwonen vanwege medicatie problemen, een leugen van jewelste, hij mag zijn uitleveringszaak niet bijwonen…… Deze leugen werd volop gemeld in Nederland door Radio1 en BNR, terwijl men anders amper of geen aandacht meer besteedt aan deze uiterst schandelijke zaak…… Ondanks dat Julian heeft gevraagd de zaak in persoon te mogen bijwonen is dit afgewezen!! Is dat rechtspreken anno 2021?? Schande!! Het is dan ook meer dan duidelijk dat Julian uitgeleverd zal worden….. De beloften van de VS dat hij niet in eenzame opsluiting zal worden gehouden (isolatiefolter), dan wel dat hij op andere mensenrechtenschendende manieren zal worden vastgehouden in de VS, zijn van nul en generlei waarde, daar men al heeft gesteld dat mocht e.e.a. nodig zijn men hem alsnog op mensonterende manier zal behandelen en folteren…..
De ergste wreedheden uit de geschiedenis werden legaal uitgevoerd. De zwaarste voorbeelden van genocide, slavernij, tirannie en bloedvergieten werden toegestaan en actief gefaciliteerd door de staat….. De vervolging van Julian Assange is erop gericht om journalisten gevangen te zetten die zich met dezelfde zaken bezighouden……
Volkomen terecht stelt Caitlin dat een regime dat openlijk legaal journalisten vasthoudt en uitlevert voor het openbaren van haar misdaden, is meer duivels en meer tiranniek dan een bewind dat journalisten in het geniep laat verdwijnen, daar het hele systeem erop gericht is zulke tirannieke daden te steunen en publiekelijk aangeeft dat het prima is….. De staten die e.e.a. in het geniep doen erkennen tenminste stilzwijgend dat het immoreel is om met zo’n zaak openlijk haar fascisme te demonstreren……..
Het is duidelijk dat journalisten die misdaden van de VS oorlogsmachine aan de kaak stellen het risico lopen om doelwit te worden, maar om dergelijke journalistiek feitelijk als illegaal te zien en voor te stellen als openlijk geschikt om strafrechtelijk vervolgd te worden zou een grote overwinning zijn voor de oorlogsmachine van de VS……
De Democratische Partij doet precies wat men voorspelde dat het zou doen na de overwinning van de Democraten (in de laatste landelijke verkiezingen) en deze partij het Witte Huis en congres terugwonnen en het is als het kijken naar het rad van fortuin hoe liberalen (lees: neoliberalen*) in de VS er absoluut niets van zullen leren…..
Nadat Biden werd ingezworen als president schreef Caitlin dat de volgende 2 jaar de Democratische Partij op haar meest transparante manier zou laten zien, juist daar deze partij bestaat om elke linkse beweging te doen doodbloeden in het nog steeds machtigste land op aarde….. (voorbeelden te over intussen, de Democratische Partij is nu zelfs meer gespleten dan ooit en de progressieve krachten in de partij worden op alle mogelijke manieren tegengewerkt…..)

It’s important to remember that before Assange was dragged out of the embassy on a Trump administration arrest warrant in 2019, liberal journalists would mock and smear him relentlessly any time he was in the news. They are silent now, but they helped pave the way for what’s happening now.
Never forget that liberal journos participated in a nonstop smear campaign of shocking aggression and astonishing scale against Assange from 2016-2019, and that their smears helped manufacture consent for his imprisonment. Not until they were confronted with the cold hard reality of a journalist being arrested and charged under the Espionage Act for publishing did they realize this isn’t a fucking game and shut up.
Now he’s in prison, for practicing journalism, and his health is fading, and they are silent. I hope they’re silent and ashamed. I hope one day they look in the mirror and see someone who helped torture an autistic man for doing their job better than them.

The worst atrocities in history have all been legal. All the worst examples of genocide, slavery, tyranny and bloodshed have been allowed or actively facilitated by the state. The persecution of Assange is geared toward entering the imprisonment of journalists into this category.
A regime which legally extradites and imprisons journalists right out in the open for reporting on its crimes is more evil and more tyrannical than a regime which disappears journalists in secret, because its entire system supports such acts of tyranny and publicly asserts that it is fine. At least the ones who hide it are tacitly acknowledging that it is immoral by hiding it instead of proudly demonstrating its fascism in broad daylight.
Obviously journalists who expose severe malfeasance in the US war machine will always be at risk for being targeted, but establishing such journalism as actually illegal and capable of being prosecuted legally, right out in the open, would be a huge victory for the war machine.

Animal Petitions kwam vorige week donderdag met een ‘scholingsartikel’ over de oliewinning uit de teerzanden in Canada, een ramp voor al het leven dat daar bestond voor die winning……. Daarbij komt nog het transport van de olie door Canada en de VS, een catastrofe voor de heilige gronden en wateren van de oorspronkelijke volkeren, daar de pijpleidingen daarvoor onherroepelijk gaan lekken, soms al in het eerste jaar na ingebruikneming…….. De gebieden met de gronden waar deze olie wordt gewonnen zijn voor vele decennia zo verontreinigd dat de natuur niet terugkomt en het dierlijk leven daar is verdwenen……
Deze teerzanden bevinden zich hoofdzakelijk in de Canadese provincie Alberta, in een gebied van 141.000 vierkante kilometer, genaamd de Athabasca oil deposit, in Nederland ook aangeduid als de Athabasca-oliezanden. De huidige oliewinning bedraagt 1,3 miljoen vaten per dag en er zouden nog 171 miljard vaten bitumen te winnen zijn (de ongeraffineerde olie is gemengd met zand en andere stoffen en wordt bitumen genoemd, niet te verwarren met de bitumen die wordt gebruikt als dakbedekking van schuren, enz). De voorraad is zo groot dat Canada de derde grootste hoeveelheid olie bezit na Venezuela en Saoedi-Arabië…..
Het landschap dat na de oliewinning overblijft is voor vele decennia onvruchtbaar en ook voor dieren eigenlijk ontoegankelijk, ofwel je houdt een mistroostige vlakte over waar alle leven is verdwenen…… Om de gebieden klaar te maken voor de winning van de teerzanden wordt alle bos gekapt en vedwijnen de stromen en natuurlijke vijvers (ik neem aan als onze vennen), een gebied waar talloze dieren bescherming en een goed leven vonden….. Tientallen miljoenen vogels van in totaal 130 soorten gebruikten het gebied voor voortplanting en andere zaken als een pauzeplek voor trekvogels….. De dieren die dit gebied gebruikten zien jaar na jaar het gebied krimpen waar ze nog terecht kunnen en hebben er zelfs voor gezorgd dat de ‘woodland caribou’ (‘boskariboe’) nu tot de bedreigde diersoorten behoort, hetzelfde geldt voor whooping cranes (trompetkraanvogels)….
Het klaarmaken van het gebied voor teerzandwinning is slechts de eerste stap in het vernietigende werk, volgende stappen kunnen een nog desastreuzer effect hebben op het gebied, zo is het winnen van olie uit deze bitumen een proces dat enorm veel water gebruikt, voor elke liter olie wordt ongeveer 2 tot 4 liter water gebruikt en gezien de enorme hoeveelheden die per dag worden geproduceerd kan je wel nagaan dat daarmee de stromen en vijvers geheel worden drooggelegd, wat ook weer gevolgen heeft voor het dierlijk leven en bijvoorbeeld de trekvogels die het gebied bezoeken….. Ongerepte waterwegen en stroompjes zijn veranderd in een landschap met putten die vol staan met giftige stoffen die overblijven na onttrekking van de olie uit de zanden…… In 2008 landden er 1.600 eenden in een vijver van oliemaatschappij Syncrude en werden in noodtempo dodelijk vergiftigd……
De winning van olie uit teerzanden is alleen winstgevend als de olieprijs hoog genoeg staat en dat is jammer genoeg al lang het geval en nu zelfs nog hoger dan in het laatste decennium gezien…… De Canadese premier Trudeau, een neoliberale schoft van het ‘hoogste niveau komt met mooie praatjes voorafgaand aan COP26, terwijl hij en zijn regering niet alleen verantwoordelijk zijn voor de wiining van teerzandolie, maar ook voor de aanleg van pijpleidingen voor de olie uit de teerzanden, zodat de vervuiling met olie ook andere plekken van Canada en de VS bereikt, zoals gezegd o.a. de heilige gronden en wateren van de oorspronkelijke volkeren, mensen aan wie Trudeau en andere politici, ook in de VS, schijt hebben, men ziet deze mensen als dieren waarmee je kan doen wat je wilt…… (ja desgevraagd stelt men het tegenovergestelde, echter als je de dagelijkse praktijk ziet, kan je niet anders concluderen dan dat men deze mensen niet voor vol aanziet…….) Het is zelfs zo dat de regering Trudeau op diens voorspraak de financiering van een pijpleiding overnam, nadat het bedrijf dat daarvoor verantwoordelijk was het moest laten afweten vanwege gebrek aan financiering door banken…….
Over COP26 gesproken: Trudeau is ook telkens weer verantwoordelijk voor het kappen van de laatste gebieden met oerbossen in Canada…. Onbegrijpelijk ook dat nog steeds zoveel Canadezen op deze schoft stemmen, overigens vergelijkbaar met de degenen die hier op de grijnzende hufter en godbetert premier Rutte stemmen, een wanpresterende schoft die al evenveel lak aan natuur en klimaat heeft, maar als je hem hoort spreken zou je denken dat hij de groenste premier ooit is…… In werkelijkheid is hij bijvoorbeeld verantwoordelijk voor het steunen van de fossiele industrie met het schandalig hoge bedrag van 17,5 miljard euro per jaar, maar meer geld uittrekken voor de salarissen van verpleegkundigen is er niet bij, hij en zijn waardeloze kabinet wensen zelfs de IC capaciteit niet uit te breiden terwijl hij verantwoordelijk is voor de halvering van het aantal IC bedden dat Nederland had toen hij aantrad in zijn eerste kabinet…….. Al in 2016 werd Rutte 2 (en daarmee Rutte 3) door de AIVD en MIVD gewaarschuwd dat Nederland niet klaar was voor een pandemie, de redenen: te weinig IC bedden, verpleegkundigen en intensivisten…….

Educational Series: Tar Sands are a Wildlife Catastrophe
Not far north of the contiguous U.S. border lies one of the
largest industrial projects in human history, situated on top of one of
the planet’s biggest petroleum deposits: the Canadian tar sands. In the
tar sands, massive pieces of machinery mine the earth for a low-quality
form of oil that would be impossible to recover economically using more
conventional methods. Billowing clouds rise from the smokestacks where
this fossil fuel is made into a product that can be shipped to markets
elsewhere via pipeline, train, or other forms of transport. Photos of
the tar sands often resemble something from a dystopian movie scene–but
what is easy to forget is that the land now dominated by tar sands
mining used to be prime wildlife habitat.
The Athabasca oil deposit covers over 50,000 square miles mostly
located in the Canadian province of Alberta. Although it has long been
known to contain vast amounts of tar-like petroleum, known as bitumen,
mixed in with sand and other sediments, for decades extracting this oil
on any kind of large scale seemed uneconomical. There was simply too
much oil in other parts of the world that was easier and less expensive
to get at. However, things changed as other oil deposits began to run
dry and energy prices rose in the early 2000s. By 2006, some of the
world’s largest energy companies were mining the tar sands for bitumen
oil. As production ramped up, so did the costs for both people and
animals.
Tar sands development affects wildlife at every stage. First,
building a tar sands mine requires destroying the forests and wetlands
that formerly covered the area, leaving devastation where once there
were old-growth trees, streams, and ponds that sheltered countless
creatures. Tens of millions of birds belonging to about 130 species use
the tar sands region for breeding or other purposes, and have seen their
habitat slowly shrink as mines expand. Whooping cranes, a critically
endangered species, are among the birds affected. Tar sand mining
activity has also shrunk and degraded the habitat of woodland caribou,
another critically endangered animal. These shy, majestic creatures are
very sensitive to habitat disturbance and have seen their populations
plummet 80% from 2000 levels in areas affected by tar sands development.
However, clearing land for tar sands extraction is only the first
step–and other stages of the process have even farther-reaching impacts
on both wildlife and people. Tar sands extraction is hugely
water-intensive, consuming about 2-4 gallons of fresh water for every
gallon of oil produced. Tar sands mining contributes to the depletion of
streams and wetlands, including along crucial flyways for migrating
birds. Pristine waterways that once dotted the landscape have been
replaced by toxic ponds full of tailings, or tar sands mining waste. In
2008, a flock of 1,600 migrating ducks landed on a pond owned by oil
company Syncrude and were quickly poisoned to death.
When tailings ponds leak into the water table and nearby streams, the
results can be equally deadly. Toxins from tar sands mining operations
have been linked to deformities in fish and cancer clusters among people
in downstream villages. The human communities most directly affected
belong to Indigenous First Nations who have inhabited the landscape for
thousands of years, living sustainably off the lands where they fish and
hunt. Today, because of tar sands development, streams and rivers that
provided for countless generations of local people are no longer safe
places to drink or fish.
By destroying forests and wetlands and poisoning water, tar sands
extraction has negatively affected one of the world’s last truly vast
expanses of intact forest and wetlands. However, the biggest impact of
all comes from the tar sands’ contribution to climate change, which
threatens people and wildlife in every corner of the planet. The large
amounts of energy required to extract bitumen and turn it into usable
fuel mean that the final product has a carbon footprint as much as 30%
bigger than conventional oil. Today, the tar sands and other Canadian
oil and gas operations are responsible for fully one-quarter of Canada’s
carbon emissions. Tar sands development has also helped solidify oil
dependence in both Canada and the United States–where most of the oil is
sent via pipeline or other means–at a time when the world should be
pivoting to clean energy.
The tar sands are a disaster for animals, the climate, and human
health. The good news, though, is that ordinary people are fighting
back. Opposition from communities who care about a healthy planet and
livable future has helped stop projects like the proposed Teck Mine, a
massive expansion of the tar sands cancelled in February 2020. Less than
a year later, President Biden overturned the permit for the Keystone XL
pipeline, which would have pumped more tar sands oil across the
Canadian border into the U.S. The Biden administration has declined to
cancel a similar permit for another major tar sands pipeline that
recently went into operation, Line 3 in Minnesota. However, larger
numbers of people are clearly waking up to the dangers of tar sands
extraction. Work on Line 3 was repeatedly delayed by nonviolent protests
led by Indigenous Anishinaabe people, whose land and waters are
adversely impacted by the pipeline and who literally blocked
construction with their bodies.
Science shows that we cannot preserve a livable climate while
continuing with massive fossil fuel development projects like the tar
sands–and fortunately, clear alternatives exist. Clean energy and
electric vehicle technologies are cheaper than ever before, and prices
are expected to continue falling over the long term. The days when we
needed oil to power our cars, trucks, and other vehicles are swiftly
coming to an end. By investing in clean technologies, we can choose a
future where projects like the tar sands become unnecessary and
irrelevant.
So, how can each of us play a role in ushering in this future?
Reducing your own oil consumption is clearly important, but is only part
of the picture. There are many ways you can support policies that
encourage clean energy and electric vehicles, whether by signing
petitions, contacting your elected officials directly, or even changing
how you bank. Major financial institutions like JP Morgan Chase and the
Canadian banks TD and RBC are among the biggest financiers of the tar
sands industry, enabling the construction of new mines and pipelines.
Consider investing in a local credit union instead–or, if that isn’t an
option for you, use your voice as a customer to let your bank know you
don’t want them to fund the tar sands.
Although what happens in the tar sands may affect the survival of
hundreds of animal species, only we humans have the power to shut down
this ecological disaster. Every one of us can do our part to stop the
tar sands, in the process helping to secure a better future for Canada’s
wild landscapes and the animals and people who depend on them.

Waorani leider Nemonte Nenquimo roept de leiders van de negen landen die het Amazonegebied op hun grondgebied hebben en andere wereldleiders op het Amazonegebied te beschermen tegen de neoliberale plunderingen van dat woud en de vernietiging van dit voor de hele aarde zo belangrijke gebied.
Eén van die leiders zal zeker niet naar de oproep van Nemonte luisteren, de psychopathische fascistische president Bolsonaro van Brazilië….. Activiteiten die zowel in het Braziliaanse en Ecuadoraanse deel van het woud niet alleen mensen maar ook enorme aantallen wilde dieren het leven kosten……
Erger nog is de genocide die op de oorspronkelijke volkeren wordt uitgevoerd, een genocide die 500 jaar geleden begon met de eerste witte Europeanen, deze is nog steeds niet gestopt, sterker nog deze wordt zelfs nieuw leven ingeblazen door figuren als Bolsonaro, Lasso, de mijnbouwmaatschappijen, oliemaatschappijen en de de grote westerse banken, die één en ander financieren zoals ING, Rabobank, ABN Amro en Van Lanschot….. Deze banken leenden vanaf 2015 tot 2020 het schunnig grote bedrag van 10,2 miljard euro aan bedrijven die zich bezighouden met ontbossing….. Pensioenfonds ABP van wie CDA topgraaier Wortmann deze week de wereld nog zand in de ogen strooide door te stellen dat ABP niet langer zal investeren in fossiele brandstoffen (vlak voor COP26…), heeft samen met verzekeraar Allianz 2,1 miljard geïnvesteerd in de ontbossing van het Amazonewoud…….
Niet alleen de banken maar ook de intensieve veehouderij houden de branden en andere ontbossing van het Amazonewoud in stand door hun grote vraag naar gentech sojabonen voor diervoer, terwijl de gewone soja (niet genetische gemanipuleerd) ook hier makkelijk kan worden verbouwd, maar waarom doet men dat niet? Juist: vanwege de prijs, het is goedkoper om het oerwoud in de fik te steken en op de vrijgekomen plek soja te verbouwen en zelfs met het transport van soja door zwaar vervuilende zeeschepen blijft de prijs nog onder die van in Nederland verbouwde soja…… Twee derde van de wereldsojateelt gaat naar diervoer, waarvan het kleine Nederland de nummer 2 importeur is (na China…)…..
Als we de prijs van het vernietigen van de aarde zouden meerekenen in de prijs van soja, zou deze minstens 20 keer goedkoper kunnen worden verbouwd in Nederland en de ons omringende landen, dan in Brazilië…… Maar nee, de grote maatschappijen die verantwoordelijk zijn voor deze schandelijke situatie, zijn vanaf morgen vertegenwoordigd op de klimaattop in Glasgow en mogen daar zelfs bij deze top aanzitten en meespreken (en de uitkomsten negatief beinvloeden), zij mogen veel langer deelnemen aan het overleg dan de milieugroeperingen die blij mogen zijn als ze 5% van de tijd mogen deelnemen aan de besprekingen……(de grote vervuilers mogen voor 95% van de tijd deelnemen aan de besprekingen……)

On the eve of the United Nations climate summit in Glasgow, where world leaders will be trying to “hammer out a deal to save the planet” we would like to, once again, share this powerful and timely message, written by Waorani leader, Nemonte Nenquimo, from the heart of the Amazon rainforest:
Dear
presidents of the nine Amazonian countries and to all world leaders that
share responsibility for the plundering of our rainforest,
My name is Nemonte Nenquimo. I am a Waorani woman, a mother, and a leader of my people. The Amazon rainforest is my home. I am writing you this letter because the fires are raging still. Because the corporations are spilling oil in our rivers. Because the miners are stealing gold(as they have been for 500 years), and leaving behind open pits and toxins. Because the land grabbers are cutting down primary forest so that the cattle can graze, plantations can be grown and the white man can eat. Because our elders are dying from coronavirus, while you are planning your next moves to cut up our lands to stimulate an economy that has never benefited us.
Because, as Indigenous peoples, we are fighting to protect what we love – our way of life, our rivers, the animals, our forests, life on Earth – and it’s time that you listened to us!
In
each of our many hundreds of different languages across the Amazon, we
have a word for you – the outsider, the stranger. In my language,
WaoTededo, that word is “cowori”. And it doesn’t need to be a bad word.
But you have made it so. For us, the word has come to mean (and in a
terrible way, your society has come to represent): the white man that
knows too little for the power that he wields, and the damage that he
causes.
You are probably not used to an Indigenous woman calling you ignorant and, less so, on a platform such as this. But for Indigenous peoplesit is clear: the less you know about something, the less value it has to you, and the easier it is to destroy. And by easy, I mean: guiltlessly, remorselessly, foolishly, even righteously.
And this is exactly what you are doing to us as Indigenous peoples, to
our rainforest territories, and ultimately to our planet’s climate.
It took us thousands of years to get to know the Amazon rainforest. To understand her ways, her secrets, to learn how to survive and thrive with her. And for my people, the Waorani, we have only known you for 70 years
(we were “contacted” in the 1950s by American evangelical
missionaries), but we are fast learners, and you are not as complex as
the rainforest.
When you say that the oil companies have marvellous new technologies that can sip the oil from beneath our lands like hummingbirds sip nectar from a flower, we know that you are lying because we live downriver from the spills.
When you say that the Amazon is not burning, we do not need satellite images to prove you wrong; we are choking on the smoke of the fruit orchardsthat our ancestors planted centuries ago.
When you say that you are urgently looking for climate solutions, yet
continue to build a world economy based on extraction and pollution, we
know you are lying because we are the closest to the land, and the first to hear her cries.
I never had the chance to go to university, and become a doctor, or a lawyer, a politician, or a scientist. My elders are my teachers. The forest is my teacher.
And I have learned enough (and I speak shoulder to shoulder with my
Indigenous brothers and sisters across the world) to know that you have lost your way, and that you are in trouble (though you don’t fully understand it yet) and that your trouble is a threat to every form of life on Earth.
You forced your civilisation upon us and now look where we are: global pandemic, climate crisis, species extinction and, driving it all, widespread spiritual poverty. In all these years of taking, taking, taking from our lands, you have not had the courage, or the curiosity, or the respect to get to know us. To understand how we see, and think, and feel, and what we know about life on this Earth.
I won’t be able to teach you in this letter, either. But what I can say
is that it has to do with thousands and thousands of years of love for
this forest, for this place. Love in the deepest sense, as reverence. This
forest has taught us how to walk lightly, and because we have listened,
learned and defended her, she has given us everything: water, clean
air, nourishment, shelter, medicines, happiness, meaning. And you are taking all this away, not just from us, but from everyone on the planet, and from future generations.
It is the early morning in the Amazon, just before first light: a time
that is meant for us to share our dreams, our most potent thoughts. And
so I say to all of you: the Earth does not expect you to save her, she expects you to respect her. And we, as Indigenous peoples, expect the same.

Het vasthouden van Julian Assange, NB door het openbaren van oorlogsmisdaden door de VS begaan, is een schande van hier tot Tokio en hebben van Julians geest en fysieke gestel een schaduw gemaakt van wie hij eerst was, intussen zit hij al 2,5 jaar in isolatiefolter….. Wat dat betreft waren de laatste dagen eigenlijk totaal belachelijk: rechters moeten zich buigen over de kans dat Assange in de VS een vreselijke behandeling wacht, terwijl hij in Groot-Brittannië in feite al zo wordt behandeld…… Schunnig ook dat de reguliere media hem zo valselijk hebben besmeurd en hem in plaats daarvan niet hebben gesteund….
Vreemd genoeg zit er een lichtpunt aan het geheel en dat is het feit dat de VS door dit uitleveringsproces steeds weer door de mand valt als een enorme schender van mensenrechten, ofwel de VS bijt in feite in haar eigen duivels gevorkte staart…. Zo worden in de VS 80.000 gevangenen in isolatiefolter gehouden (een aantal van hen zelfs al meer dan tien jaar) en zijn er feiten naar buiten gekomen over de extra beveiligde gevangenis waar Julian zou kunnen belanden, waarvan de honden geen brood lusten…..
Het voorgaande nog naast het feit dat de belangrijkste getuige van de VS een veroordeelde pedofiel bleek te zijn, die bovendien werd gediagnosticeerd als sociopaat (deze figuur gaf toe dat de VS hem onder druk had gezet te getuigen tegen Julian in ruil voor immuniteit vanwege misdadig gedrag……)…… Ook Blinken, de VS minister van justitie, beging een fikse flater door te beweren dat de VS voor de vrijheid van pers staat, terwijl de zaak Assange in de dagelijkse praktijk juist het tegenovergestelde laat zien >> deze zaak wordt zelfs misbruikt om andere journalisten te waarschuwen geen klokkenluiders te helpen en zich niet met de oorlogsvoering van de VS te bemoeien, oorlogsvoering die telkens weer gepaard gaat met vreselijke oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid…. In feite zijn die oorlogen niets anders dan grootschalige terreur, die terreur kweken op de straten van de westerse EU landen en die grote vluchtelingenstromen opgang hebben gebracht!! Overigens de start van de illegale oorlogen die de VS deze eeuw is aangegaan moet je al zien als oorlogsmisdaden van formaat, daar ze zijn ‘gelegitimeerd’ met leugens, oorlogen waarin meer dan 5 miljoen mensen werden vermoord…..
Niet alleen de persbreidel in de VS is een probleem voor dat land, maar ook de schending van mensenrechten waar de VS diverse regimes van beschuldigt, is uiterst hypocriet: als er één land op de wereld is dat mensenrechten in het buitenland en in eigen land op grote schaal schendt is het de VS wel, zoals o.a. blijkt uit het gevangenissysteem in de VS waarvan de misstanden met de uitleveringszaak Assange naar buiten zijn gekomen, maar ook de omgang met gekleurde burgers is een aaneenschakeling van mensenrechtenschendingen en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid…… Hetzelfde geldt voor de omgang met vluchtelingen in de VS >> één grote schending van het VN vluchtelingenverdrag, waarbij men mensen en zelfs kinderen opsluit in gevangenissen die zonder meer lijken op concentratiekampen…..
Over de pers gesproken: zelfs het feit dat de belangrijkste getuige van de VS voor uitlevering
van Julian totaal ongeloofwaardig is geworden, hebben amper of niet de
reguliere westerse (massa-) media gehaald…… Het feit dat Julian
Assange zijn eigen proces niet mocht bijwonen werd door de westerse pers
afgedaan met de mededeling dat Assange vanwege medicinale problemen
zijn proces niet kon bijwonen, terwijl hij zelf had gevraagd het proces
persoonlijk bij te mogen wonen….. Ronduit misdadig zoals deze media de VS
zelfs de helpende hand bieden in de zaak Assange, terwijl het NB gaat om een
collega!!!
Nogmaals: het is een schande dat Julian Assange wordt vastgehouden puur en alleen voor het op keurige wijze uitvoeren van zijn werk als onderzoeksjournalist, echter hoe langer het proces duurt, hoe meer misdaden van de VS aan het licht komen >> de beschuldigingen tegen Julian komen als een boemerang terug en die hebben het gezicht van de VS in de wereld flink beschadigd…… Hoe dom kan een staat als de VS handelen….??!!! Welnu dat kan de VS prima, zie het uitgelekte plan van de CIA om Julian te ontvoeren en te vermoorden…… Dit nog naast het feit dat de CIA Julian en zijn advocaten hebben afgeluisterd in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in Londen, ook al illegaal en een misdaad vanjewelste…..
Als je het mij vraagt, gezien het voorgaande, is het zeker dat Julian uitgeleverd zal worden, waarbij de rechters in feite een politieke uitspraak zullen doen en waarbij ze Assange uitleveren aan een land dat hem zelfs heeft willen vermoorden……. De belofte dat men Julian Assange humaan zal behandelen zijn door dezelfde aanklagers van de VS onderuitgehaald, daar ze stellen dat mocht de situatie van zijn gevangenhouding daartoe leiden, men Julian wel zo zal behandelen……

The
US appeal of a British court ruling on the Assange extradition case has
concluded, and the judges will probably not have a decision ready until at least January—a
full year after the extradition was denied by a lower court. Assange,
despite being convicted of no crime, will have remained in Belmarsh
Prison the entire time.
During that time the judges will be weighing arguments they’d heard about the cruel nature of the US prison system, which formed a major part of the reasoning
behind Judge Vanessa Baraitser’s rejection of the US extradition
request. They’ll be considering the draconian policy of Special
Administrative Measures, whose victims are cut off
from human contact and from the outside world. They’ll be considering
the brutality of the supermax ADX facility in Florence, Colorado whose
inmates are kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, and where Assange could easily wind up imprisoned despite the prosecution’s flimsy assurances.
Assange
probably never set out on this journey with the goal of calling
attention to the abuses of the US prison system as his foremost
priority, but, as is so often the case with anything his journey
touches, those abuses keep getting pulled into the light of public
awareness anyway. His case is now no longer just about press freedom, US
war crimes, corrupt governments collaborating to stomp out inconvenient
truth tellers, and the malfeasance of US alphabet agencies, but about
the abusive nature of the US prison system as well.
If
Assange he is extradited and found guilty of publishing classified
material it will set a legal precedent that will effectively end

this is a big part of what I find so endlessly captivating about the
life of this extraordinary individual. No matter what he’s doing, no
matter where he is, no matter how beaten down and silenced and
immobilized they may appear to have him, his life keeps exposing things.
Keeps bringing things into the light.
It’s
been a constant throughout his life as near as I can tell, from when he
was a young man using his technical prowess to help Australian police bring down distributors of online child pornography
in the mid-nineties. This curious impulse to bring what is hidden in
the dark out into the light where it can be seen is what gave birth to
WikiLeaks and all the major revelations about the criminality and corruption of the powerful which resulted from its publications.
And
as paradigm-shattering as those many bombshell revelations were, they
were arguably small potatoes compared to the criminality Assange exposed
by simply standing his ground until the most powerful institutions in
the world conspired to drag him from the Ecuadorian embassy and lock him
in Belmarsh Prison for telling the truth.
Assange created an innovative publishing platform which allowed whistleblowers to upload files anonymously on the premise
that corrupt power needs to be able to communicate secretly in order to
operate efficiently. Corrupt power responded by silencing,
immobilizing, isolating, imprisoning and torturing him. In so doing,
corrupt power exposed itself and its true nature far more than any
WikiLeaks drop ever could.
Since
Assange’s imprisonment there’s been a jaw-dropping deluge of
revelations about the malfeasance of the power structures which rule
over us which could not have been exposed to such an extent in any other
way.
It
was revealed that the US power alliance will openly jail journalists
for telling the truth with as much brazenness and despotism as any other
tyrannical regime, giving US-targeted nations the ability to rightly call out the hypocrisy of Washington’s concern trolling about human rights.

It
was revealed that because he inconvenienced the most powerful
government in the world, Assange has been subjected to abuses which amount to psychological torture according to a UN special rapporteur on torture.
It was revealed that the CIA plotted to kidnap and assassinate
Assange, an earth-shaking discovery we wouldn’t have been able to
confirm for decades under normal circumstances, but due to a miraculous
combination of partisan feuding and their frantic compulsion to silence
him it was confirmed just a few short years after the fact.
It was revealed that the western news media are so propagandistic and morally bankrupt that they will viciously smear a dissident journalist
for years to manufacture consent for his arrest and imprisonment, and
then act completely guiltless when the most powerful government on earth
works to extradite him into its dungeons.
And
now we’re seeing the same US government which has been plotting this
man’s destruction and even death for many years humiliating itself by hilariously trying to argue
that he would be safe under their care, just so they can get their
claws into him. Like Count Olaf in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of
Unfortunate Events taking on whatever disguise might allow him to nab
the Baudelaire orphans.

The
more they come after him, the more damage they do to themselves. It’s
like Assange is standing in a beam of sunlight surrounded by vampires,
and every time they reach in to grab him they wind up disintegrating
their own limbs.
Their
old tactics never seem to have the intended effect. The harder they
struggle to keep him from being able to expose their crimes, the more of
their own criminality they reveal.
It always reminds me of the lyrics to that Johnny Cash song:
“Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand, workin’ in the dark
against your fellow man/ But as sure as God made black and white, what’s
done in the dark will be brought to the light.”
And
the struggles of our world today really do seem to come down to a
battle between light and darkness. I say this not in any kind of
mystical or metaphysical sense, but in the sense that there are on all
levels forces which wish to bring the unseen out of hiddenness and
forces which have a vested interest in keeping things hidden.
On
the global level there are vast power structures which have a vested
interest in keeping their misdeeds out of public attention and making
sure we all remain confused and misinformed
about what’s really going on in the world. On a sociological level
there are individuals who have a vested interest in keeping their
personal actions out of the light and preventing anyone from clearly
seeing what they’re really up to. On an internal level we’ve all got
subconscious forces at play within ourselves whose existence depends on
avoiding the light of conscious perception.
And
on every level there’s a struggle to bring those things into the light.
On a global level there are forces working to expose the corruption and
tyranny of ruling power structures. On a sociological level there are
forces working to expose liars, manipulators, abusers, crooks and
psychopaths. On an internal level there are always forces working to
bring the endarkened aspects of ourselves into consciousness.
It’s
a struggle that’s happening on every level of our species, and Julian
Assange seems to be one of the very brightest points in that struggle.
It
appears to be a very reliable principle of the human condition that if
you firmly and sincerely resolve deep within yourself to desire truth
above all else and to seek it at all cost, it causes everything your
life touches to move into the light: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Hidden psychological tendencies become seen, understood and resolved.
Abusive family dynamics, manipulative behavior patterns and everything
untruthful around you and in you all starts to move into the spotlight.
Some relationships end, others deepen. It upends your world while
grounding you in something far more meaningful than the sources in which
you’d formerly sought stability.
This
movement into truth can be devastating, humbling, humiliating or
downright terrifying, and sometimes all of them at once, because it’s a
relinquishing of control and a surrendering to whatever’s true, no
matter what that turns out to be, no matter how insecure or embarrassed
or inadequate it might make you feel at first. But looking back there’s
an immediate understanding that you wouldn’t have had it any other way.
I
don’t know Julian Assange personally, but I suspect he may have signed
an internal contract like this at some point in his life. The desire for
truth, come what may, whatever the cost, whatever the consequences.
Whether he did or did not, that has been the result of the luminescent
path his journey has blazed through humanity during his time on this
planet. And the world is a much better place for it.

The only Food and Drug Administration vaccine advisory panel member to abstain from a major vote this week that essentially authorized Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children as young as 5 said he did so because of limited safety and efficacy data.
All 17 others voted to advise the administration, or the FDA, to authorize the jab for children between the ages of 5 and 11. The agency already supported doing so and is expected to formalize the authorization soon. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would then decide which children should get the shot.
The vote was preceded by nearly eight hours of discussions and presentations, with multiple members expressing concern about the scant data on how the vaccine will affect the age group.
But Dr. Michael Kurilla, an expert on infectious diseases and pathology who directs a division inside the National Institutes of Health, was the only one who didn’t support the recommendation.
Kurilla told The Epoch Times in an email that he opposed the specific, binary wording of the question, which opens up the possibility that any child between 5 and 11 will be able to get the Pfizer vaccine. He was also concerned about the longest follow-up for the clinical trial involving the age group being only three months, data that shows children experience severe cases of COVID-19 much less often than adults, and how a large chunk of them have already had the disease, giving them some level of immunity.
If the authorization goes through as expected, at least some of the age group will be able to get two doses of 10 micrograms each, spaced three weeks apart.
The same dosage interval, with a dosage level three times as high, is currently in place for adults. But adults have seen waning effectiveness, especially against infection, prompting the recent authorization of booster doses.
Because the interval is the same, it can be predicted that the effectiveness will also wane in children, Kurilla said. The lower dosage level, meanwhile, brings into question whether the protection against severe disease and hospitalization will be as strong as in adults.
“Real-world evidence involving adults suggest the 3-week dosing interval is suboptimal in terms of durability and is likely to be similar in children, leading to waning immunity within 4–6 months,” Kurilla said. “Because the Pfizer vaccine offers protection against serious disease even after antibody titers have waned, there is some other basis for immunity, but at the lower dose in children, there is no expectation that those same immune processes will behave similarly to the higher adult dose.”

During the meeting, members heard that among children 5 to 11 in the United States, there have been over 1.9 million infections since the start of the pandemic, but just 0.4 percent, or 8,400 of those cases, have required hospital care. And just 94 of them ended up dying.
They also heard that an estimated 20 percent of the hospitalized children were admitted for a reason besides COVID-19 and that nearly seven out of 10 of the children had existing serious health conditions like heart disease, illustrating just how little risk COVID-19 poses to healthy children.
Further, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 40 percent of children in the age group have already had COVID-19. Recovery from COVID-19 bestows some level of immunity, studies show, with multiple studies indicating the level is actually higher than vaccines provide.
“The benefit here is assumed to be prevention of severe disease, which is what we’re all hoping for,” Kurilla said during the meeting. But among the recovered, he added later, “The question really becomes, does this vaccine offer any benefits to them at all?”
Kurilla signaled he would have voted “yes” if the FDA had proposed opening up access to the vaccine to a subset of the 5–11 group. He also explained why he abstained.
“My abstention was based on the specific question the FDA asked. A ‘no’ vote would have been misconstrued as my opinion about the vaccine,” he told The Epoch Times. “There are high-risk groups within the 5–11 age group that would benefit from the vaccine, suggesting a more tailored approach.”

Others Question Widespread Use
Additional panel members openly questioned whether all young children should get the vaccine.
“I’m torn. On one hand, we know that many mothers and fathers and parents are eager to administer this vaccine to children because they’re so frightened, perhaps overly so, … that they really are anticipating having access to this vaccine in children,” said Dr. Cody Meissner, the director of pediatric infectious disease at Tufts Medical Center.
“On the other hand, I think we saw that approximately 68 percent of the children who are hospitalized with COVID-19 have underlying comorbidities. That means about 32 percent do not. And then if we were to take 40 percent of that group that may have immunity already, we’re getting down to a very small percent of otherwise healthy 6- to 11-year-old children who might derive some benefit,” he added.
But others said they saw the need for the vaccination. The protection it gives would prevent more hospitalizations and ensure schools remain open, some argued.
“We don’t want children to be dying of COVID, even if it is far fewer children than adults, and we don’t want them in the ICU,” said Dr. Amanda Cohn, a CDC official.
Jeannette Lee, a biostatistics professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, said she was impressed by the data presented by Pfizer, which relied on an approach called immunobridging. In this case, Pfizer’s trial showed the vaccine triggered antibodies in children. The antibodies were compared to those elicited in older groups, and that was used as proof the vaccine will protect the kids against COVID-19.
Kurilla, though, voiced disapproval with the approach, telling colleagues “it’s being based on an immunogenicity marker that we know wanes.”
He said he hoped for more flexibility in the authorization, including a single dose for some children and no doses for others, based on factors like prior infection.
“There are high-risk individuals and I think they do need to be attended to, that we do need to provide a vaccine for them. But for many others, one dose—or no dose, even, if they’ve had prior COVID infection. I think they may not need anything more,” he said.

Side Effects
Cases of heart inflammation after receipt of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are highest in youth, especially boys in their teens. Based on reports submitted to the federally run Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), the cases are higher than expected in males aged 12 to 49 after the second Pfizer dose and females 12 to 24 after the second Pfizer dose.
Over half of the children with confirmed myocarditis or pericarditis studied in the Vaccine Safety Datalink surveillance system required hospital care, though no post-vaccination deaths due to the conditions have been confirmed, according to federal authorities.
Pfizer said none of the 5- to 11-year-olds in its trials experienced post-vaccination heart inflammation. Using a third of the amount of that given to older people is, in part, an attempt to curb side effects, though how that will ultimately turn out is unknown.
FDA scientists said they determined the vaccine would prevent more COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths among the age group than vaccine-linked heart inflammation cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. They assumed a vaccine efficacy of 70 percent against COVID-19 cases and an efficacy of 80 percent against hospitalizations linked to the disease. Among young males, “the benefits appear to outweigh the risks,” Hong Yang, an FDA scientist, told members. Among young females, “the benefits clearly outweigh the risks,” she added.
“What will the actual myocarditis rate be in these younger kids?” Dr. Ofer Levy, director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, wondered. That group “may be less susceptible to myocarditis, but right now that’s a speculation,” he added. “We don’t know that for sure.”
Members of the public also expressed concern, arguing the safety data wasn’t sufficient to authorize the vaccine for children so young.
But other members pointed to the trial data, the fact fewer reports have come in for 12- to 15-year-olds than 16- and 17-year-olds, and how, generally, fewer younger children experience heart inflammation versus older ones.
“I am not as concerned about myocarditis in this age group as I am in the older kids,” Dr. Melinda Wharton, another CDC official, said.
Surveillance systems like VAERS will help detect if inflammation becomes an issue in the younger children, members said.
“If the surveillance systems do start seeing severe outcomes and deaths from vaccination, I’m quite confident that those surveillance systems will tell us that we need to pause like we did with the J&J vaccine to really have a good idea of what the effects are vaccinating this age group,” said Dr. Patrick Moore, professor at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

The ‘Yes’ Votes
Ultimately, most members said the benefits and predicted benefits of the vaccine in the 5- to 11-year-olds outweighed the risks and potential risks.
“I think this vaccine will likely be effective in reducing pediatric COVID in this age group and may also help reduce transmission. On the safety end, I’m encouraged by the lower dose, … finding a dose that’s immunogenic and had not too much in terms of reactogenicity,” said Dr. Ofer Levy, director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Eric Rubin, an adjunct professor at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, said he wanted to give parents the choice to vaccinate their kids, imagining he had a child who was a transplant recipient, though he joined others in saying there are probably some younger children who shouldn’t get the vaccine.
“The question of how broadly to use it, though, I think is a substantial one. And I know it’s not our question, but I—and I know we’re kind of punting that to [the CDC’s advisory panel]—but I do think that it’s a relatively close call,” he said.
Soon after, in a comment that was widely distributed online, he added: “We’re never going to learn about how safe this vaccine is unless we start giving it. That’s just the way it goes. That’s how we found out about rare complications of other vaccines, like the rotavirus vaccine.”
Rubin told The Epoch Times in an email, responding to critics: “The clinical trial of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in children showed no adverse events. All data to date indicate that it is safe. It will prevent the hospitalization of children with severe disease, as it does with adults. The vaccine works, and saves lives.”

Russia is investigating reports of Turkish attack drones being deployed for the first time in Ukraine’s eight-year civil war. The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) under the command of the Kiev regime claimed that the drones were used earlier this week in combat against ethnic Russian rebels.
This is a potentially dramatic escalation in the smoldering war. For it marks the direct involvement of NATO member Turkey in the conflict. Up to now, the United States and other NATO states have been supplying lethal weaponry to the Kiev regime to prosecute its war against the breakaway self-declared republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
American, British and Canadian military advisors are also known to have carried out training missions with UAF combat units. Britain is in negotiations to sell Brimstone missiles to the Ukrainian navy.
But the apparent deployment of Turkish attack drones is a potential game-changer. Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov hinted at the graveness when he announced Wednesday that Moscow was carrying out urgent investigations about the purported participation of Turk-made Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Previously, Lavrov rebuked Turkey to stay out of the conflict and to not feed Ukrainian hostilities.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that NATO’s support to the Kiev regime was posing a direct threat to Russia’s national security. The Kremlin’s assessment can only be more alarmed on the back of NATO member Turkey being now implicated as one of the war’s protagonists. In all likelihood, Turkish military personnel would be required to assist in operating the drone flights.
The war in the Eastern Ukraine region known as Donbass has persisted for nearly eight years. It was triggered after a NATO-backed coup d’état in Kiev in February 2014 against an elected government that had been aligned with Russia. The new regime was characterized by anti-Russian politics and Neo-Nazi ideology. The ethnic Russian population of Donbass rejected the Western-backed regime, leading to a war. The ethnic Russian people of Crimea likewise voted in a referendum in March 2014 to secede from Ukraine and to join the Russian Federation with which it has centuries of shared history. Kiev’s forces are accused of aggression and potential war crimes from shelling civilian homes and infrastructure. This week an oil depot in Donetsk was bombed by a drone. It is not clear if the drone was one of the Turkish weapons.
Western governments and NATO accuse Russia of invading Eastern Ukraine and of annexing Crimea. Moscow rejects that as an absurd distortion of reality. Such vilification is no doubt partly why Russia cut off diplomatic links last week with NATO.
Russia says it is not a direct party to the Ukraine conflict. It points to the Minsk Accord negotiated in 2015 with France and Germany which clearly states that Russian is not a party to the conflict. The accord obliges Kiev to grant autonomy to the Donbass region. However, the Kiev regime has stubbornly refused to implement the Minsk deal, even though the incumbent President Volodymyr Zelensky was elected in 2019 on election promises to pursue a political settlement.
The emerging Kiev-Ankara axis is not out of the blue. Turkey has been voicing increasing support for Ukraine. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently made provocative declarations about not recognizing Crimea as Russian territory and returning the peninsula to Ukraine.
Last week too saw the visit to Kiev by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during which the Pentagon chief lambasted Russia as the “aggressor” in the Ukraine conflict. Austin also truculently told Moscow that the latter’s red line about Ukraine joining NATO was null and void. As if to underline the Pentagon’s determination, two nuclear-capable B-1B bombers flew from Texas to the Black Sea where they were warded off by Russian fighter jets.
Then there was also the NATO defense ministers’ summit in Brussels last week out of which a new “master plan to contain Russia” was unveiled. German defense minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer went on to say nuclear weapons were needed in Europe to contain Russia. Her comments provoked a furious response from Moscow which summoned the German military chargé d’affaires in protest.
Moreover, it is highly pertinent that France and Germany – the two other guarantors of the Minsk Accord along with Russia – have remained silent despite the continual violations of the ceasefire in Donbass by the Kiev regime’s forces. Every week, there are offensive shelling and mortar attacks across the Contact Line hitting civilian sites in Donetsk. Yet Paris and Berlin keep a stony silence. This is but a silent complicity in condoning aggression.
All in all, the signals amount to a bright green light from Washington and its NATO allies to the Kiev regime to step up hostilities against the Donbass. That ultimately means Russia.
Now with reports of Turkish drones augmenting the firepower of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that evinces NATO effectively at war on Russia’s doorstep.
Turkey’s drones have been deployed in several recent conflicts: in Libya in support of the Tripoli-based government against the Russian-backed forces of Khalifa Haftar; in Syria against the Russian-backed Syrian government forces; in Nagorno-Karabakh in support of Azerbaijan against Armenia. In the latter war, Ankara’s drones were believed to have played a decisive role in giving Azerbaijan the upper hand.
Ironically, when Russian leader Vladimir Putin hosted Erdogan last month in Sochi the two appeared to engage in an amicable exchange. The Turkish president has also recently chafed at relations with NATO over alleged interference in Turkey’s internal affairs. There has been chatter of Ankara moving towards Moscow in geopolitical alignment. That seems way off the mark.
For as far as Ukraine goes, Ankara seems to be setting the pace for NATO’s deepening involvement in the country’s war. Given NATO’s collective defense pact and already fraught relations with Moscow, mercurial Erdogan is tempting a very dangerous fate.

In een Twitterbericht stelt Ian Goodrum dat begin deze maand marineschepen van 6 landen de Zuid-Chinese Zee zijn binnengevaren, schepen van landen aan de andere kant van de wereld…… In een volgende zin stelt Goodrum dat er wordt bericht dat Chinese oorlogsvliegtuigen over de door Taiwan ten onrechte geclaimde lucht defensie zone zijn gevlogen een zone die internationaal niet wordt erkend…. Daarop vraagt Goodrum: en raad eens welk van de 2 onderwerpen de media haalde? (zoals je zal begrijpen het laatste bericht over de Chinese luchtmacht, inclusief de leugen over het Taiwanese luchtruim)
De media en politiek draaien de boel volledig om en beschuldigen China van agressie tegen Taiwan, terwijl juist het westen de boel keer op keer op scherp zet en dat in een gebied waar het westen niets te zoeken heeft…… De boel op scherp zetten zoals de NAVO onder VS opperbevel de ene na de andere militaire oefening houdt langs de westgrens met Rusland, is datzelfde bondgenootschap af en aan bezig met oefeningen langs de territoriale wateren en het luchtruim van China…… Verder heeft de VS rond de 400 militaire bases rond de Oostelijke grenzen van China….. (China zou eens moeten proberen om zelfs maar één militaire basis in Mexico of Canada te bouwen…..)
De VS, Australië en Groot-Brittannië zijn zelfs een nieuw militair pact aangegaan, AUKUS, geheel gericht tegen China…..
Op 9 oktober jl. besteedde Caitlin Johnstone een artikel over deze zaak, waarin ze o.a. stelt dat oorlogshitsers als het aankomt op oorlogsvoering tegen een niet aan de VS gehoorzaam land, er in de media altijd Hitler bij halen als voorbeeld, alsof China na Taiwan te hebben ingelijfd, ze door zullen gaan en andere landen zal aanvallen en annexeren (beter had ze het Japan van voor en tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog als voorbeeld genomen)…..
Overigens dient nog opgemerkt te worden dat Taiwan in feite bij China hoort (in feite is dat door het westen erkend, daar men in 1971 Taiwan uit de VN Veiligheidsraad heeft gezet en daarvoor in de plaats China heeft toegelaten). In de kop van haar artikel stelt Caitlin dat iedereen die achter het oorlog voeren staat voor Taiwan een maffe idioot is en daar is geen woord Spaans in te ontdekken!! Zeker als je bedenkt dat zo’n oorlog onherroepelijk een oorlog met gebruik van kernwapens zal zijn, ofwel Wereldoorlog III (WOIII), immers de VS heeft meermaals gesteld dat het het eerste gebruik van kernwapens niet uitsluit, terwijl de kernwapens tot voor een jaar of 7 werden gezien als afschrikkingswapen dat alleen ingezet zou worden als de tegenpartij dit zou doen…… (de VS heeft niet voor niets kernwapens ontwikkeld voor het slagveld [beter: slachtveld] ofwel voor inzet op een beperkt gebied, alsof een tegenpartij die door de VS [en haar NAVO-partners] wordt aangevallen en zoals China en Rusland intercontinentale raketten met kernkoppen heeft, deze niet zal inzetten…..)
Opvallend ook het staatje dat Caitlin gebruikt voor het hersenspoelen van VS burgers t.b.v. een oorlog tegen China mocht dat land Taiwan proberen in te nemen, waar het percentage voorstanders steeg van 19% in 1982 tot 52% juli dit jaar >> kortom dit hersenspoelen heeft wel degelijk veel effect en daarvoor zijn niet alleen politici verantwoordelijk maar vooral de reguliere (massa-) media in de VS, waar elke onafhankelijke berichtgeving voor het leeuwendeel vaarwel is gezegd……. Overigens ook hier doen de media maar al te graag mee aan dit hersenspoelen met oorlogspropaganda, met dank aan Donald Trump >> toen hij zijn handelsoorlog tegen China begon, had men nog wat voorbehoud in de rest van het westen en zelfs in de VS, maar tegen het eind van diens regeringsperiode was het overgrote deel van de westerse media en politiek overstag gegaan en deed men vrolijk mee met het demoniseren van China……
Het meest lullige van al is wel dat ondanks dat de situatie nu veel ernstiger is dan in de 70er en 80er jaren van de vorige eeuw, er i.t.t. tot destijds er nu amper mensen in het westen de straat opgaan om te demonstreren tegen de westerse agressie langs de grenzen van Rusland en China en dat door het westen dat o.l.v. de VS alleen deze eeuw al meer dan 5 miljoen mensen heeft vermoord in het Midden-Oosten, Afghanistan en Afrika….. Al heeft dat ongeïnteresseerd toezien veel te maken met het hiervoor aangehaalde hersenspoelen van de bevolking met anti-Chinese propaganda…..

Taiwan has been in the news a lot lately, and it’s really bringing out the crazy in people.
The mass media have been falsely reporting that China has been encroaching on Taiwan’s “air defense zone”, which gets stretched into the even more ludicrous claim that China “sent warplanes flying over Taiwan”. In reality Chinese planes simply entered an arbitrarily designated area hundreds of miles from Taiwan’s coast it calls its “Air Defence Identification Zone”, which has no legally recognized existence
and contains a significant portion of China’s mainland. This is likely a
response to the way the US and its allies have been constantly sailing war ships into disputed waters to threaten Beijing.
As Moon of Alabama reports,
US warmongers inflamed this non-controversy even further by feeding a
story to the press about the already public information that there are
American troops in Taiwan training the military there, citing “concern”
about the danger posed by China.

Now headlines are blaring about President Tsai Ing-wen responding to this non-event with the announcement that Taiwan will “do whatever it takes to defend its freedom and democratic way of life.” Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott just visited Taipei to advocate that “democracies stand shoulder to shoulder” with Taiwan against China. The CIA has announced the creation
of a new spy center that will focus solely on China, which CIA Director
William Burns says will “further strengthen our collective work on the
most important geopolitical threat we face in the 21st century: an
increasingly adversarial Chinese government”.
A recent poll says that now more than half of Americans
would support sending US troops to defend Taiwan from an invasion by
the mainland, plainly the result of the aggressive propaganda campaign
that has greatly escalated public hysteria about China. In Australia the mass media are cranking out unbelievably insane 60 Minutes episodes ridiculously pushing the idea that China may attack Australia and that Australians should be willing to go to war to protect Taiwan. I’ve been having many disturbing interactions
with people online who emphatically support the idea of the US and its
allies going to war with China over Taiwanese independence.
This is clearly nuts, and anyone who buys into this line of thinking is a brainwashed fool.
This
isn’t some kind of complicated anti-imperialist issue, and it has
nothing to do with which side you take in the debate over what
government Taiwan belongs under. The US and its allies engaging in a
full-scale war with nuclear-armed China over Taiwan is a prospect that
should be vehemently opposed out of simple, garden variety
self-preservation.
Obviously
if Beijing decides to launch a military assault on Taiwan in its bid to
reunify China that would be a terrible thing which would cause a lot of
suffering. I don’t think that will happen unless western powers push
Taipei into declaring independence or otherwise upset the delicate
diplomacy dance in some major way, but if it does happen under any
circumstances that would be awful.
But
Taiwanese independence is not worth fighting a world war that could
kill millions, and potentially billions if things go nuclear. This
should be extremely obvious to everyone.

War
proponents will reference Hitler, as they literally always do whenever
there’s talk of war against someone the United States doesn’t like,
arguing that China taking Taiwan would be like the Nazis invading Poland
after which they’ll just keep invading and conquering until they are
stopped. But there’s no evidence that China has any interest in invading
Japan, much less Australia, still less everyone else, or that it has
any ambitions on the world stage beyond reunification and securing its
own economic and security interests.
The
idea that China wants to take over a bunch of foreign lands, make you
live under communism and give you a social credit score is the same kind
of foam-brained bigoted othering which told previous generations that
Black men want to take over your neighborhood so they can have sex with
your wives. It’s the sort of belief that can only find purchase in an
emotionally primitive mind that lacks the ability to put yourself in
someone else’s shoes and understand that not everyone wants what you
have.
The
jarring amount of pushback I’ve been getting for my very sane and
moderate position that we should not be willing to start World War Three
between nuclear powers over Taiwanese independence makes it abundantly
clear that many people don’t truly understand that starting a war means
you have to actually send actual human beings to go fight that war. All
the big brave warrior men bloviating about the need to stand up to China
know they’ll never find themselves on the front line of that conflict
because they’re too old, but they’ll happily send my kids and the kids
of countless of other mothers to go and fight in it. It’s like a video
game or a movie to them.
Propaganda
has made us so compartmentalized and detached from the realities of the
horrors of war. If people could really see what war is and what it
does, truly grok deep down in their guts how their own governments are
inflicting those horrors on people right now, they’d fall to
their knees in anguish and never again advocate for such things. No sane
person would support a war of this scale if they truly understood what
it would mean.

Corporate Accountability is een petitie gestart tegen de lobby van bedrijven die regeringen als die van de VS, Groot-Brittannië, de EU en Australië in de hand hebben en daarbij de komende klimaattop COP26 die over een paar dagen in Glasgow van start gaat, kunnen saboteren met flauwe kul als ‘net zero’ beloften, ofwel doorgaan met de uitstoot van broeikasgassen gemengd met giftige stoffen, door de afvang van die uitstoot en deze ondergronds op te slaan. Onderzoeken laten zien dat dit niet werkt en dat daarbij komende generaties te maken kunnen krijgen met grootschalig weglekken van deze gassen…..
Jammer dat Corporate Accountability Australië niet noemt daar de laatste weken is uitgelekt dat dit land, samen met andere landen, heeft ingezet op het saboteren van COP26….* Deze klimaattop zou daarmee de zoveelste misser worden, waar eerdere klimaattoppen als die van Parijs en Madrid zelfs zo werden ‘belobbyd’ dat de resultaten uiterst bedroevend waren, dit bijvoorbeeld met vertegenwoordiging en lobby van de grote oliemaatschappijen die voor 95% van de tijd mochten deelnemen aan de vergaderingen en de milieugroeperingen amper 5% van de tijd mochten aanzitten bij de besprekingen……. Ofwel degenen die de wereld, ons aller thuis, naar de kloten helpen mochten voor vrijwel de volledige tijd deelnemen aan de besprekingen en daarmee hun invloed verzilveren, terwijl de beschermers van ons aller thuis amper mochten deelnemen, om over de zeer geringe invloed die ze daarmee uitoefenden op deze toppen nog maar te zwijgen…..
Waar ook weinig aandacht voor is, is het feit dat jaarlijks meer dan 8 miljoen mensen overlijden aan de gevolgen van lange blootstelling aan luchtvervuiling, terwijl de weergerelateerde rampen aangejaagd door de klimaatverandering ook steeds meer slachtoffers eisen…. Zaken die klimaatsceptici totaal onberoerd laten……
Verder moet je niet vergeten dat deze klimaattop als die van voor de Corona-uitbraak zelf een fikse aanjager is van de klimaatverandering, dit vanwege het transport van de deelnemers naar die top, meestal met het vliegtuig……
Voorts zijn er nog de feiten dat men het effect van oorlogsvoering, militaire oefeningen en de invloed op het klimaat door de intensieve veeteelt en landbouw nooit heeft meegenomen op deze klimaattoppen, terwijl dit onevenredig grote aanjagers zijn van de klimaatverandering……
Hoorde vanmorgen dat Shell in aanloop van COP26 plots komt met de belofte dat het bedrijf in 2030 ‘nog maar de helft’ wil uitstoten van wat het in 2015 uitstootte…… Hetzelfde jaar dat Shell beloften deed op de klimaattop van Parijs (COP21), mooie praatjes en beloften, terwijl later bleek dat Shell deze beloften op minstens 8 punten had gebroken……** Te vergelijken met de reclame campagne van deze koninklijke wereldvernietiger voor deelname aan een Noordzee windmolenpark in Schotse wateren, maar waarin uiteraard niet werd verteld dat Shell een vergunning had aangevraagd en heeft gekregen voor het boren naar gas en olie en ook dat in de kustwateren van Schotland……. Het is dan ook duidelijk dat Shell de belofte heeft gedaan die vanmorgen wereldkundig werd gemaakt, om de deelnemers aan COP26 alvast te masseren (ook dat is een smerige vorm van lobbyisme….)….. Als er één oliemaatschappij is die niet is te vertrouwen is het Shell wel***, ik wil dan ook graag de leus van Shell aanhouden die ze doen in bedrieglijke spotjes, maar dan iets aangepast, dus niet (Shell:) Go Well, maar: Shell Go to Hell!! (en neem alle aandeelhouders maar mee, zoals ons koningshuis!!)
Lees en teken de petitie ajb en geeft het door, laat regeringsleiders en andere deelnemers aan COP26 weten dat men eindelijk voor de bevolking en de aarde moet kiezen en niet voor de belangen van grote bedrijven!! (en het argument dat daardoor banen kunnen sneuvelen is uiterst vals, als de aarde zo goed als onbewoonbaar is gemaakt zal er nog amper werkgelegenheid overblijven!!)

Tell the U.S., U.K., and EU: side with people, not polluters, at the global climate talks!
In
just a few days, the U.N. global climate talks will begin. And while
these annual talks were postponed last year because of the global
COVID-19 pandemic, they are moving forward this year, despite the vast
global inequity to vaccine access. That means that Big Polluters, and
the primarily Global North governments that do their bidding, like the
U.S., U.K., and EU, will be at this meeting in force. Meanwhile, many
Global South delegates, activists, and the people dealing with the
biggest impacts of the climate crisis will not be able to attend.
Earlier today, we hosted a virtual press conference1
featuring climate movement leaders and elected officials from Africa,
Latin America, Europe, and the U.S. They unveiled new hard-hitting
research showing how Big Polluters are pulling the strings ahead of the
U.N. climate talks.2 And they shared high-impact,
people-centered, just solutions for addressing the climate crisis that
governments attending the upcoming talks need to hear.
This year at the global climate talks, many of the
communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the climate
crisis will not be represented, while the wealthiest, whitest, and most
polluting nations and entities (like Big Polluters) will be even more
disproportionately represented than they usually are.
“Net zero” pledges give polluters and polluting countries a free pass to
continue extracting fossil fuels, emitting methane, and destroying
rainforests.
*** Zo wisten de topgraaiers van Shell uit eigen onderzoek al eind 80er jaren van de vorige eeuw dat de verbranding van fossiele brandstoffen de oorzaak is van de toen al als snel bekend staande klimaatverandering….. Men heeft het rapport van het onderzoek nog een paar jaar aan het voortgezet onderwijs doen toekomen, maar besloot het daarna in een diepe donkere kluis op te bergen en ‘wetenschappers’ te betalen om de uitkomstenb van het onderzoek te ontkennen…… Eenzelfde manier van doen die Exxon en Total in de 70er jaren van die eeuw hanteerden, ook zij wisten uit eigen onderzoek hetzelfde en zonder dit aan iemand te laten zien, meteen opgeborgen op een bijzonder donkere plek, waarna ook zij wetenschappers betaalden om hetzelfde te doen: ontkennen dat de mens verantwoordelijk is voor de snelle klimaatverandering….. De verantwoordelijke top van Shell, Exxon en Total zouden als ze nog leven moeten worden vervolgd voor massamoord, maar ook de CEO’s en managers die na hen het stokje overnamen, immers zij moeten op de hoogte zijn geweest van die onderzoeken en hebben niets anders gedaan dan doorgaan met het vernietigende werk……

wij mogen betalen voor de vernietiging van ons thuis: de aarde en dan durven de

Over fake news (nepnieuws) gesproken!!
‘Rutte (VVD premier) ‘belooft’ de wateroverlast slachtoffers te helpen……‘ Wateroverlast
als gevolg van de klimaatverandering, terwijl Rutte en zijn waardeloze
kabinet de oliemaatschappijen jaarlijks steunen met 8,3 miljard euro!!
Intussen blijkt dit 17,5 miljard euro te zijn, zie de derde link in
deze rij (van boven), die begint met: COP26: Nederlandse, enz………..
‘‘Koninklijke Shell’: ondanks ‘groene beloften’ blijft CO2 uitstoot van dit bedrijf stijgen‘ En ja ‘ons’ koningshuis verdient aan de opwarming van de aarde en
daarmee aan de luchtvervuiling die alleen in Nederland jaarlijks aan
18.000 mensen het leven kost en dat jaren eerder, meestal na een akelig
ziekbed, dezelfde luchtvervuiling die ervoor zorgt dat jaarlijks een
groot aantal kinderen long- en luchtwegklachten oploopt…… ‘Goed hè?’
Het is bijna niet te geloven: PostNL voert geen postzegel prijsverhoging door, ondanks dat het onzalige demissionaire kabinet Rutte 3 daar toestemming voor gaf…… PostNL heeft met haar prijsverhogingen, het sluiten van postkantoren, het verwijderen van een groot aantal brievenbussen en inlevering van dagen waarop de post wordt bezorgd de postbezorging in Nederland flink uitgekleed, ofwel velen gebruiken de post niet eens meer…… (wat betreft de postbezorging: let maar op als je dagelijks post zou moeten ontvangen, je die op een bepaalde dag buiten de maandag niet ontvangt, de maandag is de officiële dag waarop er geen post meer wordt bezorgd)…….. Dit was dan ook de bedoeling, ondanks dat Verhagen en destijds VVD minister Kamp de Belgische postbezorger Bpost buiten de deur hebben gehouden met het argument dat de postbezorging een te belangrijke dienst is om over te laten nemen door een buitenlandse partij….. Terwijl men de postmarkt eerder privatiseerde >> juist een tegenovergestelde van de woorden die hare kwaadaardigheid Verhagen en zijne VVD hufterigheid Kamp gebruikten…..
Ook de postkantoren, eens ons aller bezit en voor de privatisering met ons belastinggeld gerenoveerd, heeft de voorloper van PostNL zoals gezegd van de hand gedaan, hoe bedoelt u: de postbezorging is een te belangrijke dienst om over te laten aan een bedrijf buiten Nederland??!!! Deze overname en verkoop werden voor het grootste deel gedaan door door de voorlopers van PostNL: t.w. TPG Post en TNT post, als PostNL afgebeeld met een kroontje, ofwel een koninklijk bedrijf, anders gezegd ‘koning’ (ha! ha!) Willem Alexander heeft er geen probleem mee dat de post wordt uitgekleed en de medewerkers worden uitgebuit….. ‘Héééél koninklijk…..’
Het voorgaande, dus de belangrijkheid van postbezorging, is alweer totaal in tegenspraak met het gevoerde sterfhuisbeleid van PostNL zoals hiervoor beschreven…… Bpost is een bedrijf dat in tegenstelling tot PostNL niet afhankelijk is van aandeelhouders, bovendien is het een bedrijf dat middels innovaties haar postbodes aan het werk houdt, het is zelfs zo zot dat Bpost de door PostNL ontslagen postbodes een baan in België aanbood, inclusief huisvesting….. PostNL ontsloeg haar postbodes en creëerde een nieuwe functie: postbezorgers, mensen die geen fluit verdienen en erger nog PostNL nam mensen met ‘een vlekje’ in dienst, mensen die eigenlijk thuishoren in sociale werkplaats en krijgt daarvoor subsidie van de overheid!!! Ofwel een beursgenoteerd bedrijf dat subsidie ontvangt, hoe ziek wil je het hebben??!!! Overigens ook veel andere bedrijfstakken krijgen kapitalen aan subsidie, zo krijgt de steenrijke fossiele industrie maar liefst 17,5 miljoen euro Nederlandse subsidie op jaarbasis!!! Subsidie waar wij voor moeten betalen middels de belastingen…..)
Nu dus voor het eerst in vele jaren geen verhoging van de postzegelprijs en daar zijn de aandeelhouders niet blij mee…… Eén en ander heeft alles te maken met de hernieuwde belangstelling voor postbezorging door de Coronamaatregelen vorig jaar en niet door innovaties van dit waardeloze bedrijf….. De postzegelprijs was in 2010 nog € 0,44 (eurocent), deze is intussen met meer dan 100% gestegen tot € 0,96 nu….. Een schande van giga proporties, mede te danken aan de lamlendige kabinetten Rutte en topgraaier Herna Verhagen, die ondanks dat ze haar personeel uitbuit, jaarlijks zelf naar huis gaat met 1,4 miljoen euro!!! Het is een wonder dat er nog zoveel mensen gebruikmaken van de post, al gaat het vooral om ouderen, des te lulliger ook dat de brievenbussen voor een fiks deel zijn verwijderd en veel ouderen van anderen afhankelijk zijn om hun brieven en kaarten op de bus te doen….. Overigens dient nog opgemerkt te worden dat ook de tarieven voor aangetekende post giga in prijs zijn gestegen…..
PostNL heeft een dochter: Netwerk VSP dat reclame drukwerk rondbrengt,
dit laat Verhagen doen door schoolkinderen, ofwel nog goedkoper dan het
al door PostNL uitgebuite personeel, bovendien is dit werk wat de
postbezorgers er makkelijk bij kunnen doen*, maar ja dat vinden topgraaier Verhagen
en de rest van de dik betaalde top te duur, ook al verdient dat personeel het veel te lage minimumloon……
Topgraaier Verhagen is zo onbeschoft dat ze het gore lef heeft om met haar waanzinnig hoge inkomen zich uit te spreken tegen het verhogen is van het minimumloon naar € 14,– per uur……. Dit en het voorgaande over deze kwaadaardige trut geeft ten overvloede nog eens aan dat ze een (inhumane) psychopaat is……….

‘PostNL hield al rekening met ongewijzigde postzegelprijs’

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) PostNL voert geen veranderingen door in de
postzegelprijs in 2022, maar dit is al opgenomen in de doelen voor 2024.
Dit stelde analist Marc Zwartsenburg van ING donderdag.
Zwartsenburg voorzag al een negatieve koersreactie op de gemiste kans
om de prijzen te verhogen. Desondanks is de analist van mening dat de
markt nog niet de hogere volumes in 2020/2021 heeft ingeprijsd en
daarmee uitgaat van een te lage startbasis als compensatie. “De
verwachtingen zijn nog steeds erg terughoudend voor de komende jaren
[en] liggen ver onder de eigen doelen voor 2022/2024”, aldus de analist.
Zwartsenburg merkte op dat het aandeel PostNL er de afgelopen tijd er
al niet goed bij lag. “De impact [van de ongewijzigde postzegelprijzen]
zal uiteindelijk waarschijnlijk beperkt zijn.”
ING heeft een koopadvies op PostNL met een koersdoel van 5,80 euro. Het aandeel daalde vanochtend met 2,5 procent tot 3,83 euro.

The first day of the US appeal of the Julian Assange extradition case saw grown adults arguing in a court of law that the US government could guarantee that it would not treat the WikiLeaks founder as cruelly as it treats its other prisoners.
I wish I was kidding.
In their write-up on Wednesday’s proceedings, The Dissenter’s Kevin Gosztola and Mohamed Elmaazi report that the prosecution argued that “the High Court should accept the appeal on the basis that the U.S. government offered ‘assurances’ that Assange won’t be subjected to Special Administrative Measures (SAMs) or incarcerated in ADX Florence, a super-maximum prison in Colorado.”
What this means is that in order to overturn the January extradition ruling which judge Vanessa Baraitser denied on the basis that the notoriously draconian US prison system is too cruel to guarantee Assange’s health and safety, the prosecution has established as one of their grounds for appeal the claim that they can offer “assurances” that they would not inflict some of their most brutal measures upon him. These would include the aforementioned Special Administrative Measures, wherein prisoners are so isolated that they effectively disappear off the face of the earth, or sending him to ADX Florence, where all prisoners are kept in solitary confinement 23 hours a day.
Prosecution bashes judge for blocking Julian Assange’s extradition
What’s ridiculous about these “assurances”, apart from the obvious, is that within its own legal argument the US government reserves the right to reverse those assurances at any time and impose SAMs or maximum security imprisonment upon Assange if it deems them necessary. As Amnesty International explains:
“They say: we guarantee that he won’t be held in a maximum security facility and he will not be subjected to Special Administrative Measures and he will get healthcare. But if he does something that we don’t like, we reserve the right to not guarantee him, we reserve the right to put him in a maximum security facility, we reserve the right to offer him Special Administrative Measures. Those are not assurances at all. It is not that difficult to look at those assurances and say: these are inherently unreliable, it promises to do something and then reserves the right to break the promise.”
So the prosecution’s legal argument here is essentially “We promise we won’t treat Assange as cruelly as we treat our other prisoners, unless we decide we really want to.”
This is not just a reflection on the weakness of the extradition appeal, it’s a reflection on the savagery of all the so-called free democracies that have involved themselves in this case.

This same prosecution argued that Assange should not be denied US extradition from the UK on humanitarian grounds as in the case of activist Lauri Love because Love suffered from both physical and psychological ailments while Assange’s ailments are only psychological. They stood before the court and made this argument even as Assange was visibly pained and unwell in his video appearance from Belmarsh, which he was only able to attend intermittently due to his frail condition.
“For my newspaper, I have worked as media partner of WikiLeaks since 2009,” tweeted journalist Stefania Maurizi who attended the hearing via video link. “I have seen Julian Assange in all sorts of situations, but I have never ever seen him so unwell and so dangerously thin.”
The worst atrocities in history have all been legal. All the worst examples of genocide, slavery, tyranny and bloodshed have been allowed or actively facilitated by the state. The persecution of Assange is geared toward entering the imprisonment of journalists into this category.
The goal is to set a legal precedent which allows journalists who expose the crimes of the powerful to be persecuted not covertly as is normally done in “free democracies”, but right out in the open. To tell journalists “We’ll just throw you in prison if you cross us.”
What makes this precedent uniquely dangerous is that it is not just threatening to imprison American journalists who expose US crimes, but any journalist anywhere in the world. This is an Australian journalist in the process of being extradited from the UK for publishing facts about US war crimes in the nations it has invaded. The aim is to set up a system where anyone in the US-aligned world can be funneled into its prison system for publishing inconvenient facts.
This is the savagery of the western world at its most transparent. It’s not the greatest evil the US-centralized empire has perpetrated; that distinction would certainly be reserved for its acts of mass military slaughter that it has been inflicting upon our species with impunity for generations. But it’s the most brazen. The most overt. It’s the most powerful part of the most depraved power structure on earth looking us all right in the eyes and telling us exactly what it is.
And if we can really look at this beast and what it is doing right now, really see it with eyes wide open, it reveals far more about those who rule over us than anything any journalist has ever exposed.
