We confronted the problem at sea

Last weekend, Greenpeace activists braved freezing conditions to attach a survival pod to the stern of a Ukrainian krill fishing vessel in the Antarctic.
Trained climbers scaled the side of the trawler to attach the pod, which stopped the company fishing for hours.
Krill is the start of the food chain in the Antarctic. [1] Without it, most forms of life would disappear. Everything from whales, seals and penguins depend on it, but the krill fishing industry wants to keep scooping it up by the millions to sell it you as krill oil and Omega 3 tablets.
We repeatedly contacted the captain of the trawler to deliver our message, but after hours occupying the pod, the vessel accelerated dramatically. Thankfully, the climbers got down safely, but not before our message was heard loud and clear: we won’t stop until we close the door to exploitation in the Antarctic for good!

By being a part of this campaign, you’ve helped our ongoing investigation expose the krill fishing industry operating in the feeding grounds of whales and penguins. Huge trawlers are edging ever closer to protected areas. [2] The worst part is that they want to expand their operations further into the Antarctic and are standing in the way of the creation of an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary. We can’t let that happen.
That’s why we’re taking our message straight to the source – the huge krill fishing trawlers operating in the Antarctic Ocean, and it’s only possible because of people like you.
