Erik Akerboom* liet na een fiks aantal incidenten met oud & nieuw in een Twitter bericht (o.a. gemeld in BNR nieuws van 8.00 u.) weten, voor een verbod op zwaar vuurwerk te zijn en voor een andere aanpak te zijn van het geweld tegen hulpverleners van: de politie, brandweer en eerste hulp…… Wat Akerboom met dat laatste bedoelde, ‘een andere aanpak’, is niet bekend, daar hij weigerde verdere uitleg te geven…..
Akerboom zit nog niet zo lang als opperagent met de koperen fluit van de Nationale Politie, maar zijn pleidooi voor die aanpak van geweld tegen hulpverleners, is in de loop van de jaren verworden tot een mantra, dat keer op keer de media haalt……..Supersnelrecht dat een paar jaar geleden werd ingevoerd, helpt niet, zoals ook dit oud & nieuw (ten overvloede) weer duidelijk is geworden…… Daarnaast is supersnelrecht een aantasting van de rechtspraak, daar een advocaat zich niet kan voorbereiden op de zaak.
Gerrit van de Kamp, de autocratische topgraaier van de christelijke politievakbond ACP**, liet weten dat er ‘concrete preventieve maatregelen’ moeten worden genomen. Hij ergerde zich voorts aan de steunbetuiging die de zwaar disfunctionerend VVD minister van Veiligheid en Justitie, van der Steur, via een Twitter bericht betuigde aan de agenten en andere hulpverleners, die alweer werden belaagd met o.a. vuurwerk, wat van der Steur ‘onacceptabel‘ neomde.
Van de Kamp eist van de politiek meer middelen ‘waar we iets mee kunnen…….’
Ongelofelijk, dat Akerboom, van de Kamp en anderen niet allang een totaal verbod op consumentenvuurwerk hebben geëist. Niet alleen worden agenten en andere hulpverleners bestookt met vuurwerk, maar ze moeten ook nog eens hun werk uitvoeren in zwaar vergiftigde lucht. Lucht vervuild, met o.a. barium, strontium (zwaar kankerverwekkend), antimoon en koper, stoffen die in de lucht vervoerd worden op fijnstof en het kankerverwekkende ultrafijnstof……..
Van der Steur en zijn voorgangers zijn verantwoordelijk voor de ontstane situatie: agenten (en andere hulpverleners) die bestookt worden met vuurwerk en tijdens hun werk worden blootgesteld aan zwaar kankerverwekkende stoffen………. Van der Steur (Opstelten en andere voorgangers) hadden allang een totaal verbod op consumentenvuurwerk moeten eisen en daar destijds hun baan voor op het spel moeten zetten, mocht blijken dat de rest van het kabinet tegen zo’n verbod zou zijn…….. Welke baas stuurt zijn personeel onder de hierboven beschreven voorwaarden de straat op…???? Ongelofelijk!!
‘Onacceptabel‘? Het is onacceptabel dat er geen verbod bestaat op consumentenvuurwerk!! Onacceptabel dat van der Steur, van de Kamp en Akerboom dat niet allang hebben geëist! Het zou dan ook volkomen terecht zijn, als van der Steur en zijn voorgangers strafrechtelijk worden vervolgd voor nalatigheid, waarmee zij het leven van hun ondergeschikten in gevaar hebben gebracht………

Gisteren op het blog van Stan van Houcke een artikel van the Canary, dat op 6 mei vorig jaar werd gepubliceerd. Het handelt hier over wie macht uitoefent via de BBC, de publieke Britse omroep, die intussen gerust een gezwel kan worden genoemd, als je alle aftakkingen in het buitenland ziet, zoals die in Canada.
Op dit blog heeft u al vaak kunnen lezen, over de propaganda die de BBC dag in dag uitstort over het Britse publiek, neem de Brexit of de enorme hoeveelheid leugens over de strijd in Aleppo (en het weglaten van feiten, zoals de terreur die de ‘gematigde rebellen’ uitoefende op de bevolking in Oost-Aleppo….)……..

EDITORIAL
The
BBC and its political editor Laura Kuenssberg are under
fire this
week, following local election coverage which has been dismissed as
nothing short of propaganda by people across the country. But how did
we get here?
Who
runs the BBC?
Rona

The
current abysmal state of BBC News and Politics makes much more sense
when you see who has been appointed to plot its editorial
course.
The BBC
Trust is
responsible for granting licenses to all BBC outlets and stations,
managing value for money on licence fee payments and ‘the
direction of BBC editorial and creative output’.
The Trust consists of 12 Trustees and is headed by Rona
Fairhead – who
also happens to have been a longtime board member of HSBC bank.
As The
Canary’s James
Wright reported earlier
this year:
Fairhead
has entrenched ties to the Tory government. In fact, she and Osborne are
old friends.
Fairhead worked
for the
Conservative government as a cabinet office member, until being
appointed by the previous Conservative culture secretary – Sajid
Javid – as the new head of the BBC Trust. She is
still business
ambassador for David Cameron.
Fairhead
has also sat on the board of HSBC directors for a long time. And what
is even more shocking than her other Conservative links are claims
that she was actually appointed chairwoman of the BBC Trust to keep a
lid on Cameron’s involvement in covering up a
£1bn fraudulent HSBC scam on British shoppers.
Whistle-blower Nicholas
Wilson made
various freedom of information requests that confirmed that
Fairhead’s appointment did not follow proper procedure. She was
rushed to the position after the application date closed, with no
mention of her on any contemporary media shortlist.
Her
appointment does not coincide with the normal process, and many
questioned why
a business tycoon was right for the job. What
it did coincide with was
a string of interconnected visits from the BBC, HSBC, the Houses of
Parliament and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to Wilson’s
website where he details the scam and the FCA and Cameron’s
involvement in covering it up.
But
the conflicts of interest do not stop at Fairhead.
This
is the calibre of the figures responsible for hiring the news teams,
presenters and journalists who will report on matters of hacking,
privacy, and the Middle East.
These
are not trivial conflicts of interests. The two individuals primarily
responsible for driving the News and Politics agenda for the BBC, are
instead driving forward their personal and professional causes –
and the licence fee payer is footing the bill.
What
is the impact on reporting?
These
conflicts of interest affect the reporting of News and Politics at
the BBC in a very real way. In 2013, researchers at Cardiff
University undertook a major
content analysis of
BBC coverage – funded in part by the BBC Trust. They studied the
impartiality of BBC reporting across several areas,
including the Israel-Palestine conflict, the EU, business and
economics, and politics.
Whichever
party is in power, the Conservative party is granted more air time.
On
BBC News at Six, business representatives outnumbered trade union
spokespersons by more than five to one (11 vs 2) in 2007 and by 19
to one in 2012.
When
it comes to the Financial Crisis, BBC coverage was almost
completely dominated by stockbrokers, investment bankers, hedge fund
managers and other City voices. Civil
society voices or commentators who
questioned the benefits of having such a large finance sector were
almost completely absent from coverage.
On
top of this, BBC reporting of Israel-Palestine has been woefully
partisan – and in 2013, we found out one reason why.
In
2013, a devastating report by Electronic
Intifada,
revealed that Raffi
Berg,
online editor for BBC News, was instructing journalists to skew
reports on Israel-Palestine in favour of Israel. While hundreds of
Palestinians were losing their lives during Israel’s eight day
assault on the Gaza strip in 2012, Berg was emailing
journalists with ‘guidance’ to maintain a pro-Israel tone in
their reports.
This from the report:
In
one, he asked BBC colleagues to word their stories in a way which
does not blame or “put undue emphasis” on Israel for starting the
prolonged attacks. Instead, he encouraged journalists to promote the
Israeli government line that the “offensive” was “aimed at
ending rocket fire from Gaza.”
This
was despite the fact that Israel broke a ceasefire when it attacked
Gaza on 14 November, a ceasefire which the Palestinians had been
observing — firing no rockets into Israel.
In
a second email, sent during the same period, Berg told BBC
journalists:
“Please
remember, Israel doesn’t maintain a blockade around Gaza. Egypt
controls the southern border.”
He
omitted to mention that the United Nations views Israel as the
occupying power in Gaza and has called on Israel to end its siege of
the Strip. Israel’s refusal to do so is a violation of UN Security
Council Resolution 1860.”
Berg
is still in his role.
All
that’s left is propaganda
Recently,
these two vested interests – pro-neoliberalism and pro-Israel –
converged on an area of common interest: opposition to Jeremy Corbyn.
This
united bitter Blairites, Conservatives and pro-Israel groups – who
ran perhaps the most
toxic smear campaign against
the Labour party and its leader in living memory. In the run up to
the local elections on May 5, the headlines across the BBC and wider
media’s flagship television and radio programs was not the 1
million people in
the UK reliant on food banks to eat, but the intrigue of the smear
campaign.
Prior
to the elections, the reporting by Kuenssberg was dominated almost
exclusively by claims of crisis within Labour, providing a platform
to a minority of bitter Blairites, and applying pressure on Corbyn to
stand aside – or at the very least prepare to.
On
Friday morning – when Corbyn’s vote had not collapsed, but
increased, compared to Miliband’s general election performance of
2015 – there was no apology for the wrongful prediction.
Instead, the narrative wheeled on regardless. While the SNP lost
their majority in Scotland, and Labour advanced in England and Wales
– this was the BBC website’s response.
The
situation brings to mind the moment when the BBC’s Andrew Marr
interviewed Noam Chomsky about the role of the mainstream media as a
propaganda service. Chomsky was discussing the role of
self-censorship by journalists, and Marr repudiated the claim,
asking:
“How
can you know if I am self-censoring?” Arguing he had never been
censored, or told what to think.
Chomsky
calmly responds, as if he were explaining the non-existence of Santa
Claus to a child:
“I’m
sure you believe everything you’re saying, but what I’m saying is
that if you believed something different, you wouldn’t be sitting
where you’re sitting.”
And
therein lies the rub with the role of the BBC, and the wider
mainstream media, as a vehicle by which to advance the causes of
those who own and run them. There is a monopoly of wealth and power
in our society which translates directly into a monopoly of the
media. The result is a staggering lack of diversity and pluralism of
voices and opinions in the mainstream space. The media has
become little more than a monotonous, relentless monologue – when
as a country, and a world, we need to be having a conversation.

PvdA oplichter Martin ‘die vrouw’ van Rijn bedacht zich, dat hij, om ‘t zacht te zeggen’, geen fraaie erfenis nalaat als ‘staatssecretaris’ van Volksgezondheid.
Gaat u maar na, dankzij hem leven veel ouderen nu in eenzaamheid, vervuilen en als ‘het mee zit’ worden ze ziek, zonder dat iemand zich om hen bekommert……… Dan zijn er wachtlijsten voor oude mensen, die van een ziekenhuis naar een verzorgingstehuis moeten, zodat de kinderen hun moeder of vader wel in hun huis moeten nemen, als de zorg in het huis van deze ouder echt niet kan, of als dit te ver weg is……..
Die kinderen moeten dan zelf de billen van pa of ma wassen, een schande van jewelste!! Let wel, al deze mensen hebben hun leven lang belasting betaald, ook voor zorg op de oude dag!!
Om over de rest van de ‘prestaties’ die Koenders neerzette op volksgezondheid maar te zwijgen………
Na een hersenstorm van een week was dingdonghoofd van Rijn eruit: sigaretten mogen voortaan niet meer in het zicht liggen in de winkel! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Nee, zelfs niet in een tabakswinkel….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Hoe dat dan moet? Wordt je in het vervolg in een soort van kelder geleid, waar je dan je keus mag maken???
De zelfvoldane schoft is mede verantwoordelijk voor het feit, dat sigarettenfabrikanten, zonder enige tegenwerking, extra verslavende stoffen toevoegen aan de tabak, zo dat het nog moeilijker wordt om te stoppen met roken……. De opvolgende ministers en staatssecretarissen weigeren de tabaksmaffia hierop aan te spreken………
Buiten dat: op tv mag gewoon reclame gemaakt worden voor de harddrug alcohol, waaraan dagelijks gemiddeld 12 mensen overlijden………. Of wat dacht u van autorijden, niet eens verslavend, maar er mag volop reclame gemaakt worden, of ‘t nu tv is, of een knots van een ‘showroom……’ Jaarlijks overlijden 18.000 mensen vroegtijdig, na een meestal akelig ziekbed, aan de gevolgen van langdurige auto-uitlaatgassen inademing…… Ter vergelijking: aan de gevolgen van het roken overlijden jaarlijks 20.000 mensen vroegtijdig en op dezelfde nare manier………..
Meneer van Rijn, wat vindt u ervan dat kinderen niet alleen alle reclames voor auto’s zien, maar zelfs speelgoedauto’s op grote schaal aangeboden krijgen in de speelgoedwinkels en reclamefolders….?? En wat vindt u van het feit dat kinderen op elk moment van de dag buiten worden geconfronteerd met auto’s, die hun gezondheid ook nog eens belagen??
De gezondheid van die kinderen loopt niet alleen gevaar door ongelukken met auto’s, maar ook nog eens middels de auto-uitstoot. Jaarlijks loopt een groot aantal kinderen long- en luchtwegklachten op, door die uitstoot van auto’s………. Onvermijdelijke bijkomende schade, meneer van Rijn? Smerige hypocriet!! (ik wijs hier m.n. op kinderen, daar van Rijn, dit keer op keer doet als hij het over roken heeft)
Van Rijn is lid van het klote kabinet Rutte 2 en is daarmee mede verantwoordelijk voor de verhoging van de maximumsnelheid. Ik bedoel, hij had nee kunnen zeggen, toen hem gevraagd werd deel uit te maken van dat kabinet, of de voorwaarde kunnen stellen, dat het autoverkeer zo moeilijk wordt gemaakt dat men liever het openbaar vervoer neemt.
Daarover gesproken: waarom heeft van Rijn, in het kader van de bevordering van de volksgezondheid, nooit gepleit voor gratis openbaar vervoer?????? Zoals o.a. in het Belgische Turnhout bleek, een probaat middel om de mens uit de auto te krijgen; kunnen we eindelijk een openbaar vervoer maken, dat wel een alternatief is voor de auto!!!
Van Rijn had het gore lef te stellen, dat hij niet verkiesbaar zal zijn voor een functie in de Tweede Kamer, wel wil hij een functie als staatssecretaris of minister……. Dit na al zijn blunders als staatssecretaris (een functie waarin hij zijn moeder aanduidde als: ‘die vrouw……’)
Mensen, mij zal dit jaar wel verboden worden, nog iets te zeggen als: wat is die van Rijn een walgelijke oetlul, maar dat neemt niet weg, dat hij dit daadwerkelijk is!!

De mislukte PvdA sierkwast Koenders was op 23 december jl. te horen op Radio1, na het nieuws van 15.30 u. Zelf stemde ik af rond 15.37 u. U begrijpt het al, toen ik de stem van PvdA jaknikker en disfunctionerend minister van BuZa, Koenders hoorde, overviel mij plotseling een hevige ongesteldheid.
Op weg naar de toilet hoorde ik Koenders nog zeggen: “Ik was eerder minister……” ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja, lullig genoeg wel!! Zoals u begrijpt, ik kon toen even niet lachen, de resultaten daarvan zouden niet prettig geweest zijn……
Inderdaad Koenders was eerder minister en wel van Ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Toentertijd had hij al een enorme dunk van zichzelf en dat bracht hem nog wel eens in de problemen, zeker in een gesprek met iemand, die iets meer van interviewen en de wereld weet, dan de bakker op de hoek!!
Koenders gunde in 2007, NB als minister, zonder openbare aanbesteding, een opdracht voor het organiseren van een evenement, aan organisatiebureau BKB, geleid door zijn partijgenoten Lennart Booij en Erik van Bruggen. Toevallig dezelfde twee grofgraaiers, die op eerdere datum meededen aan de verkiezing voor het PvdA partijvoorzitterschap…….. Met de opdracht voor BKB was maar liefst € 750.000,– gemoeid…………
Intussen, nadat m.n mijn maaginhoudt voor het grootste deel in de toilet was verdwenen, hoorde ik Koenders zeggen dat hij destijds veel meer in de media was te zien en te horen…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Zal best zo zijn, maar je moet bij tijd en wijle goddomme aardig je best doen, wil je deze valsrode joker ontwijken op radio en/of tv…….
Of er dan nu minder belangrijke zaken zijn, zo vroeg de presentator of verslaggever…… Nou nee, dat niet…… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Koenders gaat natuurlijk niet zeggen, dat hij nu geen belangrijke zaken heeft, waarmee hij zich bemoeit……. Bovendien begaf deze presentator/verslaggever zich met deze vraag op zeer glad ijs, voor je ‘t weet zit deze mislukte pleeborstel vol vuur over z’n suffe ‘avonturen’ in de politiek te ouwehoeren en steekt hij zichzelf wel 10 veren in de vieze grofgraaireet……..
Vervelend genoeg is Koenders nu af en toe zelfs op buitenlandse zenders te horen…….. Reken maar dat z’n medewerkers zich het vuur uit de schoenen moeten lopen, bijvoorbeeld net zo lang bij een buitenlandse radiozender leuren met Koenders, tot hij daar een minuut mag zwetsen…….. Vandaar ook, dat Koenders zo af en toe een bevriende natie voor joker probeert te zetten, daarmee trek je de media in dat land. Neem al z’n uitlatingen na de Brexit aan het adres van de Britten, u had natuurlijk wel begrepen dat flipje Koenders bijvoorbeeld maar wat graag een keer te horen wil zijn op BBC World Service radio……….

Allereerst wens ik u een goed en strijdbaar 2017, strijd tegen de hersenspoeling van de reguliere media en uiteraard strijd tegen het inhumane, ijskoude neoliberalisme, dat zoveel mensen in diepe ellende heeft gestort en stort. Zoals 2016, begon ook 2017 met de waanzinnige terreur van vuurwerk, laten we hopen dat dit niet een voorbode van heel veel andere (staats-) terreur zal zijn……..
Wat betreft dat vuurwerk: geheel ten overvloede heeft het RIVM bewezen totaal nutteloos te zijn. Dit instituut zet zich allesbehalve in voor de volksgezondheid en een beter milieu. Afgelopen dinsdag beweerde het RIVM met de waarzeggersbol in de hand, dat er met oud en nieuw weinig tot geen luchtvervuiling zou zijn, dit ‘vanwege verwachtte weersvoorspelling’, waar de wind de troep zou wegblazen……..*
Luchtvervuiling is natuurlijk niet weg, als het waait, zo levert de oud & nieuw vuurwerkterreur een enorme bijdrage aan de klimaatverandering. Met oud & nieuw 2015/16, ging er maar liefst 14 miljoen kilo vuurwerk de lucht in….. Dat levert een vervuiling op die gelijk is aan wat de hoogovens in IJmuiden in 2 jaar tijd uitbraken, let wel: die ovens worden gestookt op kolen!!
Volgens Milieu Centraal bevat vuurwerk o.a. de zware metalen barium, antimoon, koper en strontium. let wel: ‘onder andere…’, strontium is wel de zwaarst kankerverwekkende stof in vuurwerk. Deze zware metalen komen in het milieu, ‘meeliftend’ op de enorme hoeveelheden fijnstof, die wordt geproduceerd met sier- en knalvuurwerk. Daar dient bij opgemerkt te worden, dat siervuurwerk de grootste vervuiler is……….
Sinds de verkoop van consumentenvuurwerk werd toegestaan afgelopen donderdag, was het bal in het centrum en omliggende wijken van Den Haag, hetzelfde zal voor andere steden en grote gemeenten gelden. Dit zet nog eens een streep door de claim van de vuurwerkverkopers, die stellen dat vuurwerk, afgestoken buiten de officiële toegestane tijden (van 18.00 u. oudejaarsdag tot 02.00 u. nieuwjaarsdag), alleen gebeurt met illegaal vuurwerk…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!
Overigens vroeg ik begin november jl. aan een paar jongens die met vuurwerk bezig waren, hoe ze aan dit vuurwerk waren gekomen: “Meneer dat is overgebleven van oud & nieuw vorig jaar……..” M.a.w. ook hier was geen sprake van ‘illegaal vuurwerk….’
Gisteren leek het wel (zoals ook de jaren daarvoor), of de officiële tijd voor het afsteken van vuurwerk, was verlaagd naar 13.00 u., vanaf dat moment was het bal……. Ondanks dat het waaide, hing er al een heel smerige lucht in de stad………. Zoals u uiteraard zelf heeft gemerkt: gisteravond en afgelopen nacht hing er een dikke mist van giftige lucht in de straten en op de pleinen……. De wind was vergeleken met de middag verder afgenomen…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!
Vanmorgen was Joost Wesseling van het RIVM te horen in Vroege Vogels en verdomd hij gaf toe dat de beloofde wind er niet was (al had dit zeker voor stedelijk gebied amper echte verbetering gegeven, zoals gistermiddag al bleek………)
Wesseling vertelde dat 75 mensen in Nederland een eenvoudige sensor hadden gekregen, waarmee de fijnstof in de lucht was te meten, fijnstof geproduceerd met oud & nieuw. Geheel zinloos had men ook bij Vroege Vogels zo’n ding opgehangen. Zinloos, daar de studio van V.V. zich in het buitengebied bevindt, op redelijk grote afstand van de bewoonde wereld. Volgens Wesseling was gezien de eerste resultaten, het gehalte aan fijnstof in de lucht zo hoog, dat ook mensen zonder luchtwegklachten, last hadden van een scherp gevoel in de keel, last van de giftige dampen, lucht zelfs gevuld met het kankerverwekkende utrafijnstof……. Over dat laatste zo meer.
Vreemd overigens, dat er alleen fijnstof werd gemeten en niet de hoeveelheid giftige stoffen, die daar aanhangen…….. Waar Wesseling niet over sprak is het feit, dat er naast fijnstof, ook enorme hoeveelheden ultrafijnstof vrijkomen. Deze stof gedraagt zich als asbest en dringt dus veel dieper in uw longen door, dan ‘gewoon’ fijnstof………… Vreemd ook, dat Wesseling niets vertelde over de kankerverwekkende eigenschap van bijvoorbeeld strontium……
Ach ja, het RIVM is er om regeringsbeleid te verdedigen en niet om al te negatief te doen over vuurwerk, waarop zoveel wordt verdiend……. Ook al schrijf ik hier over het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu, de centen gaan altijd ver voor op uw gezondheid, ‘t is maar dat u het weet!
Overigens levert die meer dan 14 miljoen kilo een aanslag op het milieu, niet alleen via de lucht, maar de troep slaat ook neer in de bodem en water……. Waar de ‘fysiek’ achtergebleven troep, met de regen die nu valt, ook nog eens extra rotzooi in de bodem doet verdwijnen……..
Wat betreft de achtergebleven troep, daaraan zie je meteen hoe asociaal men is, zelden of niet zie je mensen de troep opruimen die ze zelf gemaakt hebben…….. Rot op, wu betaluh dur tog fóór?
Ik begon mijn bericht met een opmerking over vuurwerkterreur: als het aantal slachtoffers, die zich afgelopen avond en nacht bij de EHBO posten van ziekenhuizen meldden, getroffen waren door een terreuraanslag, was het land te klein geweest……. Volgend jaar ‘gewoon weer’ vuurwerkterreur………..
Deutsche Welle (DW) bracht op 24 december jl. een bericht, waarin IHS Markit, stelt dat IS minstens 52 keer chemische wapens heeft gebruikt in Syrië en Irak….. (IHS Markit is een Londens bedrijf, dat o.a. analyses maakt van gebruikte chemische stoffen in oorlogsvoering)
Lullig dat IHS Markit, zoals het zich laat aanzien, niet bericht over chemische aanvallen van andere terreurgroepen, dan IS. De aanvallen met chemische wapens in Syrië werden zonder uitzondering onmiddellijk in de schoenen geschoven van het reguliere Syrische leger, groot gebracht door de massamedia in het westen…… Vreemd genoeg werd daar amper of niet een rectificatie op gemaakt, wanneer later keer op keer bleek, dat die wapens door de ‘gematigde rebellen’ (lees: psychopathische rebellen) waren gebruikt………
Echter het feit dat IHS Market spreekt over 52 aanvallen is wat mij betreft al tekenend. Ik kan me niet herinneren, dat wij in het westen over meer dan 12 aanvallen met chemische wapens hebben gehoord….. Bovendien was IS ook aanwezig in de stad Aleppo, dezelfde stad waar ook aanvallen werden uitgevoerd met chemische wapens. De westerse massamedia hebben voor zover ik weet, nooit bericht over IS aanwezigheid in de stad Aleppo.

‘Islamic State’ used chemical weapons in Iraq, Syria
The
“Islamic State” has used chemical weapons on at least 52
occasions in Iraq and Syria, says a London-based analytical firm. The
IHS Markit report comes as Iraqi forces seek to retake Mosul from the
militant group.
IHS Markit, a
London-based intelligence analysis firm, said Tuesday the
“Islamic State” (IS) militant group has used chemical
weapons at
least 52 times in Iraq and Syria since 2014, when its fighters swept
across vast swathes of territories in the two Middle Eastern
countries.
With Iraqi forces
seeking to retake control of the northern city of Mosul in an ongoing
offensive, IHS said the jihadists could use their Chemical,
Biological and Radiological (CBR) capabilities in their defense.
“As the Islamic
State loses ground around Mosul, there is a high risk of the group
using chemical weapons to slow down and demoralize advancing enemy
forces, and to potentially make an example of – and take revenge on –
civilian dissidents within the city,” Columb Strack, senior
analyst and head of the IHS Conflict Monitor, said in the report.
Iraqi forces are
facing fierce resistance from IS fighters as they began their siege
of Mosul’s Zohour neighborhood on Sunday. The troops have
fortified their positions in Mosul’s eastern neighborhoods but they
are still far from liberating the city which fell to the militants in
2014.
“Mosul was at the
centre of the Islamic State’s chemical weapons production,”
Strack said. “But most of the equipment and experts were
probably evacuated to Syria in the weeks and months leading up to the
Mosul offensive, along with convoys of other senior members and their
families.”
Iraqi

In Budapest, visiting
Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari told media that some 1,700
IS militants had been killed since the start of the Mosul
offensive. A third of the Ninevah province, of which Mosul is the
capital, has been retaken by government forces, however their
progress has been slowed by the militants’ use of human shields, the
minister added.
Mosul is Iraq’s
second-largest city, and its recapture would be a huge blow to IS, a
Sunni extremist group that aspires to create a “caliphate”
stretching across the Middle East.
Iraqi armed forces
began their offensive to recapture the city on October 17, fighting
alongside Kurdish peshmerga fighters, Sunni tribes and Iran-backed
Shiite paramilitary forces. Their campaign is being backed by air and
ground support from a US-led coalition.
On Monday, an
airstrike by the US-led coalition against IS destroyed a major bridge
over the Tigris River south of Mosul in an attempt to limit the
group’s capacity to reinforce its fighters on the river’s east bank,
where most of the fighting is taking place.
The United Nations
says more
than 68,000 civilians have
been forced from their homes since the operation to retake the city
began.

Quietly Signs The “Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act”
Into Law
Late
on Friday, with the US population embracing the upcoming holidays and
oblivious of most news emerging from the administration, Obama
quietly signed into law the 2017 National
Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which authorizes $611 billion for
the military in 2017.
Today,
I have signed into law S. 2943, the “National Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017.” This Act authorizes fiscal year 2017
appropriations principally for the Department of Defense and for
Department of Energy national security programs, provides vital
benefits for military personnel and their families, and includes
authorities to facilitate ongoing operations around the globe. It
continues many critical authorizations necessary to ensure that we
are able to sustain our momentum in countering the threat posed by
the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and to reassure our European
allies, as well as many new authorizations that, among other things,
provide the Departments of Defense and Energy more flexibility in
countering cyber-attacks and our adversaries’ use of unmanned
aerial vehicles.”
Much
of the balance of Obama’s statement blamed the GOP for Guantanamo’s
continued operation and warned that “unless the Congress changes
course, it will be judged harshly by history,” Obama said. Obama
also said Congress failed to use the bill to reduce wasteful overhead
(like perhaps massive F-35 cost overruns?) or modernize military
health care, which he said would exacerbate budget pressures facing
the military in the years ahead.
But
while the passage of the NDAA – and the funding of the US military –
was hardly a surprise, the biggest news is what was buried deep
inside the provisions of the Defense Authortization Act.
Recall
that as we
reported in early June, “a
bill to implement the U.S.’ very own de
facto Ministry
of Truth had been quietly introduced in Congress.
As with any legislation attempting to dodge the public spotlight the
Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act of 2016 marks a
further curtailment of press freedom and another avenue to stultify
avenues of accurate information. Introduced by Congressmen Adam
Kinzinger and Ted Lieu, H.R. 5181 seeks a “whole-government
approach without the bureaucratic restrictions” to counter “foreign
disinformation and manipulation,” which they believe threaten the
world’s “security and stability.”
Also
called the Countering Information Warfare Act of 2016 (S. 2692), when
introduced in March by Sen. Rob Portman, the legislation represents a
dramatic return to Cold War-era government propaganda battles. “These
countries spend vast sums of money on advanced broadcast and digital
media capabilities, targeted campaigns, funding of foreign political
movements, and other efforts to influence key audiences and
populations,” Portman explained, adding that while the U.S. spends
a relatively small amount on its Voice of America (VOA), the Kremlin
provides enormous funding for its news organization, RT.
“Surprisingly,”
Portman continued, “there is currently no single U.S. governmental
agency or department charged with the national level development,
integration and synchronization of whole-of-government strategies to
counter foreign propaganda and disinformation.”
Long
before the “fake news” meme became a daily topic of
extensive conversation on such discredited mainstream portals as CNN
and WaPo (Washington Post), H.R. 5181 would task the Secretary of State with
coordinating the Secretary of Defense, the Director of National
Intelligence, and the Broadcasting Board of Governors to “establish
a Center for Information Analysis and Response,” which will
pinpoint sources of disinformation, analyze data, and — in true
dystopic manner — ‘develop and disseminate’ “fact-based
narratives”
to counter effrontery propaganda.
In
short, long before “fake news” became a major media topic,
the US government was already planning its legally-backed crackdown
on anything it would eventually label “fake news.”

8, when
the “Countering
Disinformation and Propaganda Act”
passed in the Senate, quietly
inserted inside the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
Conference Report.
And
now, following Friday’s Obama signing of the NDAA on Friday
evening, the
Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act is
now law.

accusation that any one media outlet or site is considered as a

U.S.
Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) today announced
that their Countering
Disinformation and Propaganda Act – legislation
designed to help American allies counter foreign government
propaganda from Russia, China, and other nations – has
been signed into law as part of the FY 2017 National Defense
Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report. The bipartisan bill,
which was introduced by
Senators Portman and Murphy in March, will improve the ability of the
United States to counter foreign propaganda and disinformation from
our enemies by establishing an interagency center housed at the State
Department to coordinate and synchronize counter-propaganda efforts
throughout the U.S. government. To support these efforts, the bill
also creates a grant program for NGOs, think tanks, civil society and
other experts outside government who are engaged in
counter-propaganda related work. This will better leverage existing
expertise and empower our allies overseas to defend themselves from
foreign manipulation. It will also help foster a free and vibrant
press and civil society overseas, which is critical to ensuring our
allies have access to truthful information and inoculating people
against foreign propaganda campaigns.
“Our
enemies are using foreign propaganda and
disinformation against us and our allies, and so far the U.S.
government has been asleep at the wheel,” Portman said. “But
today, the United States has taken a critical step towards
confronting the extensive, and destabilizing, foreign propaganda and
disinformation operations being waged against us by our enemies
overseas. With
this bill now law, we are finally signaling that enough is enough;
the United States will no longer sit on the sidelines. We are going
to confront this threat head-on. I am confident that, with the help
of this bipartisan bill, the disinformation and propaganda used
against us, our allies, and our interests will fail.”
“The
use of propaganda to undermine democracy has hit a new low. But
now we are finally in a position to confront this threat head on and
get out the truth. By building up independent, objective journalism
in places like eastern Europe, we can start to fight back by exposing
these fake narratives and empowering local communities to protect
themselves,” said Murphy. “I’m proud that our bill was signed
into law, and I look forward to working with Senator Portman to make
sure these tools and new resources are effectively used to get out
the truth.”
NOTE: The
bipartisan Countering
Disinformation and Propaganda Act is
organized around two main priorities to help achieve the goal of
combatting the constantly evolving threat of foreign disinformation
from our enemies:
The
first priority is developing a whole-of-government strategy for
countering THE foreign propaganda and disinformation being wages
against us and our allies by our enemies.
The bill would increase the authority, resources, and mandate of the
Global Engagement Center to include state actors like Russia and
China as well as non-state actors. The Center will be led by the
State Department, but with the active senior level participation of
the Department of Defense, USAID, the Broadcasting Board of
Governors, the Intelligence Community, and other relevant agencies.
The Center will develop, integrate, and synchronize
whole-of-government initiatives to expose and counter foreign
disinformation operations by our enemies and proactively advance
fact-based narratives that support U.S. allies and interests.
Second, the legislation
seeks to leverage expertise from outside government to create more
adaptive and responsive U.S. strategy options. The legislation
establishes a fund to help train local journalists and provide
grants and contracts to NGOs, civil society organizations, think
tanks, private sector companies, media organizations, and other
experts outside the U.S. government with experience in identifying
and analyzing the latest trends in foreign government disinformation
techniques. This fund will complement and support the Center’s
role by integrating capabilities and expertise available outside the
U.S. government into the strategy-making process. It will also
empower a decentralized network of private sector experts and
integrate their expertise into the strategy-making process.

so, with the likes
of WaPo having already primed the general public to
equate “Russian Propaganda” with “fake news”
(despite admitting after
the fact their own report was essentially “fake“),
while the US media has indoctrinated the public to assume that any
information which is not in compliance with the official government
narrative, or dares to criticize the establishment, is also “fake
news” and thus falls under the “Russian propaganda”
umbrella, the scene is now set for the US government to legally crack
down on every media outlet that the government deems to be “foreign
propaganda.”
Just
like that, the US Ministry
of Truth is
officially born.
