Voorheen deed de VS nog wel eens moeite om te verbergen dat het bezig was een regering of president omver te werpen, echter daar is bij de Trump administratie geen sprake van. Zo plaatste buitenlandse zaken in de VS per ongeluk documenten op haar site waaruit bleek dat de VS inderdaad bezig is met het omverwerpen van het Venezolaanse Maduro bewind….* Pence, VS vicepresident en christelijke ploert is bezig met de voorbereiding van een speech die hij vandaag in het ministerie van buitenlandse zaken zal afsteken en waarin hij hoge Venezolaanse militairen belooft dat ze in functie zullen blijven als ze zijn overgelopen naar het kamp van VS marionet en fascist Guaidó en dat de illegale sancties van de VS tegen hen zullen worden opgeheven……
De rechterlijke macht wordt niets beloofd, zij worden bedreigd met sancties als ze hun uitspraken niet in het voordeel van de VS en Guaidó doen, ofwel de VS probeert de rechterlijke macht in Venezuela te chanteren……. De VS bemoeit zich dus zelfs met de rechterlijke macht van Venezuela, hoe smerig en imperialistisch kan een vereniging van terreurstaten als de VS bezig zijn…?? Blijkbaar is Pence ervan overtuigd dat de rechterlijke macht in Venezuela precies zo partijgebonden en vooringenomen is als het grootste deel van de rechterlijke macht in de VS…… (aan wie Nederland godbetert zelfs haar burgers uitlevert……)
Onbegrijpelijk dat de rest van de westerse politici achter de VS aan blijven lopen met haar terreur tegen het soevereine land Venezuela, waar de zogenaamde oppositieleider niet meer dan een paar honderd mensen op straat kan krijgen, terwijl er toch echt ‘iets meer’ mensen wonen in Venezuela…… De reguliere westerse media doen niet anders dan de leugens van de VS herhalen, ook de zogenaamde onafhankelijke zendgemachtigde NOS maakt zich hier schuldig aan, al is dat niets nieuws…. In het Radio1 Journaal van de NOS mag verslaggever Nina Jurna in Caracas dagelijks haar leugens oplepelen voor het Nederlandse volk, zo vertelde ze vanmorgen dat er afgelopen 30 april een opstand plaatsvond in Venezuela, terwijl het om een couppoging ging….. Trouwens om van een opstand te kunnen spreken zou je minstens 400.000 (beter nog voor zo’n land: 1 miljoen) Venezolanen op straat moeten zien te krijgen, terwijl er voor de coup (zoals gezegd) een paar honderd mensen de straat opgingen…… (in één van de volgende berichten meer over Jurna)

Pence Will Offer Incentives to Venezuelan Military to Back Guaido
Vice President Mike Pence is preparing to deliver a speech this week at the State Department, during which he will announce a package of “incentives” for Venezuelan military personnel, particularly generals, trying to lure them into backing opposition leader Juan Guaido after last week’s failed coup.
The Trump Administration is also preparing to lift all sanctions against Gen. Manuel Cristopher Figuera, following news that the general has switched sides and is now backing the regime change the US wants.
The administration is keen to get the Venezuelan military to change sides en masse, and is also hoping to get judges behind the regime change. But whereas the US is offering “incentives” to the military officers, officials are just threatening to sanction judges who don’t play ball.
Just how successful this very public recruitment will be is anyone’s guess. So far, however, the US believes that the regime change is inevitable, and potentially imminent, which was why they believed last week’s coup was going to work out.
Gisteren heeft VS marionet en fascist Guaidó een ultieme couppoging tegen de democratisch gekozen president van Venezuela verloren. Nadat Guaidó wat legerofficieren wist over te halen, dacht hij te maken te hebben met een gelopen race, de plork was echter vergeten dat verreweg het grootste deel van het Venezolaanse leger en het volk achter Maduro staan en zullen blijven staan…..
Guaidó van wie bijna niemand in januari jl. nog wist wie dit was, werd door de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde, de VS als interim-president aangewezen, waarbij de VS de leugen de wereld inhielp dat Guaidó de oppositie leider was in Venezuela…….
Vanmorgen op BNR na 8.30 u. verslaggever Arjan Meesterburrie, tevens verslaggever van NRC, die nog even wat leugens moest brengen over Maduro en de situatie in Venezuela…….
Meesterburrie stelde dat Guaidó vandaag heeft opgeroepen tot de grootste demonstratie ooit….. Waar Meesterburrie niet over maalde, is het rekenen van Guaidó op de massale 1 mei viering in Venezuela, waarbij gewoonlijk meer dan een miljoen mensen meelopen in marsen ter viering van de dag van de arbeid….. Je laat wat foto’s en video’s zien waarop een handjevol Guaidó aanhangers voor of achter een grote mars lopen en doet net of al die mensen voor deze fascist op de been zijn gekomen……
Het viel me nog mee dat Meesterburrie opmerkte dat de meeste instituties achter Maduro staan…… Het aantal demonstranten dat Guadó weet te mobiliseren is al tijden aan de bijzonder lage kant, waar Meesterburrie stelde dat velen de straat niet meer op durven te gaan…… Niets uit zijn mond over de zwaar gewelddadige ‘demonstranten’ die met veel geweld tegen Maduro tekeergaan in de meer welgestelde buurten van o.a. Caracas, daar ze zich niet moeten proberen te vertonen in de grote arme wijken van die stad……..
VVD hufter Blok was gisteren toevallig op de Antillen en op de site van NU.nl staat dat Blok heeft laten weten ‘bezorgd’ te zijn voor de situatie in Venezuela, maar dat hij tegen militair ingrijpen is…… Benieuwd hoelang Blok dat volhoudt, zeker als de VS toch een illegale inval zal doen in Venezuela, ik gok dat hij dan binnen een uur om is en zal stellen achter die illegale inval te staan…..
Blok zei voor een vreedzame oplossing te zijn, die de vorm moeten krijgen in ‘vrije en transparante verkiezingen…..’ Alsof Maduro niet met grote meerderheid is gekozen tot president en dat in door internationale waarnemers als eerlijk en goed beoordeelde verkiezingen……..
De redactie van NU.nl liet voorts fijntjes weten dat onder het bewind van Maduro, sinds hij in 2013 werd verkozen tot president van Venezuela, het land in een economische en politieke crisis verkeert…… Alsof de VS niet al onder Chavez een economische oorlog heeft gevoerd tegen het Venezolaanse volk, waar levensmiddelenketens uit de VS met winkels in Venezuela onder druk van George W. Bush, en later onder druk van Obama en Trump, steeds minder de voorraden hebben aangevuld, hetzelfde geldt voor de grote farmaceuten in de VS….. (de opzet was een opstand uit te lokken uit ontevredenheid over de economische situatie, een beproefde vorm van VS terreur….)
Trump heeft de geheime economische oorlog tegen het volk van Venezuela ‘officieel’ verandert in een sanctie regime, waarbij godbetert de EU en Canada zich hebben aangesloten, ofwel uit naam van de EU zijn wij daar in feite ook verantwoordelijk voor…… (weg met de EU, richt de oude EEG maar weer op!)
Dit nog naast het stoken van de CIA in Venezuela, waar de VS de ‘oppositie’ zelfs bewapende en trainde hoe een opstand succesvol af te kunnen ronden…… Na een wapenvondst in ‘humanitaire goederen’ uit de VS, op het vliegveld van Caracas, verbood Maduro verdere import van hulpgoederen uit de VS……
De westerse reguliere media herhaalden en herhalen maar al te graag de leugens over Venezuela leugens van de opvolgende administraties in de VS….. Leugens als die waarin wordt gesteld dat de Venezolaanse bevolking honger lijdt en dat Maduro weigert de mensen voedsel en medicatie te geven…..
De voorgaande leugen werd herhaald toen de VS met 4 vrachtwagens ‘gevuld met humanitaire hulpgoederen en medicijnen’ voor de grens met Venezuela stond…. (dat zich medicijnen tussen de goederen zouden bevinden was een zo grove leugen dat USAID dit ontkende, USAID de organisatie die de zending NB had samengesteld….) Daarop reageerden de VN en het Rode Kruis als door een slang gebeten en stelden dat de VS humanitaire hulp politiseerde, niet alleen dat, maar deze organisaties verspreidden al lang humanitaire hulpgoederen in Venezuela, inclusief medicijnen, dit met hulp van het Venezolaanse leger……
Hier nog de link naar een PDF met een CIA handleiding hoe het land Nicaragua naar de rand van de afgrond te brengen………. Je snapt dat de naam Nicaragua makkelijk kan worden vervangen voor Venezuela, Iran, of Cuba, of ga nog maar even door met landen waarvan terreurentiteit VS de regering omver wil werpen……
(de opgeblazen oorlogshitser en oorlogsmisdadiger Pompeo beweert dat Hezbollah werkzaam is in Venezuela en daar een leger heeft dat gezien zijn woorden amper onderdoet voor de gezamenlijke NAVO troepen… ha! ha! ha! Ook hier is totaal geen bewijs voor deze belachelijke beschuldiging…)
James Patras heeft een artikel met de titel ‘Why Venezuela Has Not Been Defeated’ geschreven, gepubliceerd op Information Clearing House.
Patras betoogt dat zogenaamde deskundigen, analisten en politici al meer dan 5 jaar lang voorspellen dat het bewind Maduro binnen de kortste keren zou omvallen, echter daar zaten deze figuren keer op keer naast. Men vergeet dan ook dat Maduro een massale achterban heeft onder de arme bevolking die onder zijn bewind en dat van zijn (vermoorde) voorganger Chavez, het onnoemelijk veel beter hebben gekregen, bijvoorbeeld door de bouw van meer dan 1 miljoen huizen voor deze Venezolanen. Voorts zorgden Chavez en Maduro voor alfabetisering van de arme bevolking, het toegankelijk maken van het voortgezet onderwijs en de toegang tot medicijnen en medische hulp voor de arme bevolking
Deze arme Venezolanen hebben veel te verliezen en te vrezen als bijvoorbeeld de VS marionet en zwaar corrupte hufter Guaidó inderdaad door de VS in het ‘presidentszadel’ zou worden gewerkt. Duizenden arme Venezolanen zullen worden vermoord, zoals eerder in 1989 gebeurde bij grote protesten tegen de willekeur en het afknijpen van de arme bevolking door het destijds dictatoriale bewind….. Miljoenen Venezolanen leefden destijds in krottenwijken en werden uitgesloten van het voortgezet onderwijs…… De VS leverde de wapens en gaven advies aan politie, leger en politici hoe de protesten de kop in te drukken……
Voorts is het wel duidelijk dat de VS ook achter de protesten tegen het Maduro bewind zit, zoals de CIA al veel vaker heeft gedaan, in diverse andere Latijns-Amerikaanse landen, maar ook in Europa, Azië, Afrika en het Midden-Oosten…….
In zijn artikel noemt Patras alle pogingen van de VS om het Chavez dan wel Maduro bewind te laten vallen…… De laatste poging is het saboteren van de Venezolaanse elektriciteitsvoorziening en alle pogingen om middels grove leugens het bewind Maduro zwart te maken…. (er zijn er meer, zoals je in het artikel van Patras kan lezen) De VS is zelfs zover gegaan dat men daar liegt dat het Venezolaanse volk honger lijdt en gebrek heeft aan allerlei andere zaken, zoals medicijnen…… Al was de situatie vanaf ongeveer halverwege vorig jaar desastreus, een situatie NB door de VS gecreëerd met haar economische oorlog tegen Venezuela…….
De VS heeft de humanitaire hulp als propagandawapen gebruikt tegen Maduro, ‘jammer genoeg’ voor de VS hebben het Rode Kruis en de VN de Trump administratie beschuldigd van het politiseren van humanitaire hulp, daar deze 2 organen met hulp van het Venezolaanse leger al lang en breed humanitaire hulpgoederen hebben verspreid in het land…….
Deze politisering van de hulp nadat Venezuela weigerde nog langer humanitaire hulpgoederen uit de VS toe te laten op de vliegvelden van Venezuela, nadat tussen zo’n lading hulpgoederen op het vliegveld van Caracas wapens werden gevonden……. De VS poogde dit nog uit te buiten door de wereld een paar vrachtwagens met hulpgoederen te tonen, die de grens met Venezuela terecht niet over mochten…..
Daarna probeerde men de Venezolaanse douane en leger te beschuldigen van het in brand steken van die vrachtwagens, totdat videobeelden opdoken, waarin te zien was dat terroristen die werken voor de VS, de vrachtwagens in brand hebben gestoken…….
Lees het volgende artikel van Patras en geeft het door, dagelijks worden we door de reguliere media besodemieterd over de situatie in Venezuela en heeft het westen al miljarden dollars aan Venezolaanse tegoeden geconfisqueerd, waarbij de VS zelfs een kapitaal voor de aankoop van medicijnen heeft gestolen*, terwijl dit land om het hardst schreeuwt dat de Venezolanen geen medicijnen kunnen krijgen door ‘wanbeleid van het Maduro regime’ (terwijl de VS eerder haar farmaceuten onder druk heeft gezet niet dan wel zo min mogelijk medicijnen te leveren aan Venezuela…)
Let wel: in zijn lijst zet Patras een paar keer dat zaken als de sabotage van het elektriciteitsnet gebeurde van 2017 tot 2019, dit moet uiteraard tot en met 2019 zijn. Daarnaast is het zeker dat de VS (CIA) dit soort sabotages al eerder uitvoerde…… Ben het overigens niet eens met Patras wat hij tekortkomingen noemt van het Venezolaanse bewind, al kan ik wel meegaan in het verwijt dat Venezuela al lang niet meer afhankelijk had moeten zijn van zegge en schrijve 1 energiecentrale. Zijn verdere verwijten hebben m.i. van alles te maken met de illegale acties van de VS tegen het soevereine land Venezuela…….
Why Venezuela Has Not Been Defeated

April 15, 2019 “Information Clearing House“– Over the past half decade, a small army of US analysts, politicians, academics and media pundits have been predicting the imminent fall, overthrow, defeat and replacement of the Venezuelan government. They have been wrong on all counts, in each and every attempt to foist a US client regime. In fact, most of the US induced ‘regime changes’ has strengthened the support for the Chavez – Maduro government. When the US promoted a military-business coup in 2002, a million poor people surrounded the presidential palace, allied with the military loyalists, defeated the coup. The US lost their assets among their business and military clients, strengthened President Chavez, and radicalized his social program. Likewise, in 2002-03 when state oil company executives launched a lock-out.They were defeated, and hundreds of hardcore US supporters were fired and Washington lost a strategic ally. A more recent example is the overbearing role of President Trump’s bellicose proclamation that the US is prepared to invade Venezuela. His threat aroused massive popular resistance in defense of national independence ,even among discontented sectors of the population. Venezuela is in the vortex of a global struggle which pits the imperial aspirations of Washington against an embattled Venezuela intent on defending its own, and like countries, in support of national and social justice. We will proceed by discussing the multi-sided means and methods adopted by Washington to overthrow Venezuela’s government and replace it by a client regime.
We will then analyze and describe the reasons why Washington has failed, focusing on the positive strengths of the Venezuelan government.
We will conclude by discussing the lessons and weaknesses of the Venezuelan experience for other aspiring nationalist, popular and socialist governments.
US Opposition: What Venezuela Faces
The US assault on Venezuela’s state and society includes:
(a) A military coup in 2002
(b) A lockout by the executives of the Venezuelan oil company
(c) The exercise of global US power – organized political pressure via clients and allies in Europe, South and North America
(d) Escalating economic sanctions between 2013 – 2019
(e) Street violence between 2013 – 2019
(f) Sabotage of the entire electrical system between 2017 -2019
(g) Hoarding of goods via corporations and distributors from 2014 – 2019
(h) Subversion of military and civilian institutions 2002 – 2019
(i) Regional alliances to expel Venezuelan membership from regional organizations
(j) Economic sanctions accompanied by the seizure of over $10 billion dollars of assets
(k) Sanctions on the banking system
The US direct intervention includes the selection and appointment of opposition leaders and ‘dummy’ representatives overseas. In brief the US has engaged in a sustained, two decades struggle designed to bring down the Venezuelan government. It combines economic, military, social and media warfare. The US strategy has reduced living standards, undermined economic activity, increased poverty, forced immigration and increaser criminality. Despite the exercise of US global power, it has failed to dislodge the government and impose a client regime.
Why Venezuela has Succeeded?
Despite the two decades of pressure by the world’s biggest imperial power, which bears responsibility for the world’s highest rate of inflation, and despite the illegal seizure of billions of dollars of Venezuelan assets, the people remain loyal , in defense of their government. The reasons are clear and forthright. The Venezuelan majority has a history of poverty, marginalization and repression, including the bloody massacre of thousands of protestors in 1989. Millions lived in shanty towns, excluded from higher education and health facilities. The US provided arms and advisers to buttress the politicians who now form the greater part of the US opposition to President Maduro. The US- oligarch alliance extracted billions of dollars from contracts from the oil industry. Remembrance of this reactionary legacy is one powerful reason why the vast majority of Venezuelans oppose US intervention in support of the puppet opposition. The second reason for the defeat of the US is the long-term large-scale military support of the Chavez-Maduro governments .Former President Chavez instilled a powerful sense of nationalist loyalty among the military which resists and opposes US efforts to subvert the soldiers. The popular roots of Presidents Chavez and Maduro resonates with the masses who hate the opposition elites which despise the so-called ‘deplorables’. Chavez and Maduro installed dignity and respect among the poor. The Venezuelans government defeated the US-backed coups and lockouts, these victories encouraged the belief that the popular government could resist and defeat the US-oligarch opposition. Victories strengthened confidence in the will of the people. Under Chavez over two million modern houses were built for the shanty town dwellers; over two dozen universities and educational centers were built for the poor, all free of charge . Public hospitals and clinics were built in poor neighborhoods as well as public supermarkets which supplied low-cost food and other necessities which sustain living standards despite subsequent shortages. Chavez led the formation of the Socialist Party which mobilized and gave voice to the mass of the poor and facilitated representation. Local collectives organized to confront corruption, bureaucracy and criminality. Together with popular militias, the community councils ensured security against CIA fomented terror and destruction. Land reform and the nationalization of some mines and factories secured peasant and workers support – even if they were divided by sectarian leaders.
Conclusion
The cumulative socio-economic benefits consolidate support for the Venezuelan leadership despite the hardships the US induces in recent times. The mass of the people have gained a new life and have a lot to lose if the US- oligarchy return to power. A successful US coup will likely massacre tens of thousands of popular supporters of the government. The bourgeoisie will take its revenge for those many who have ruled and benefited at the expense of the rich. There are important lessons to be learned from the long-term large-scale successful resistance of the Venezuelan government’s experience but also its limitations. Venezuela , early on, secured the loyalty of the army. That’s why the Chavista government has endured over 30 years while the Chilean governments of Salvador Allende was overthrown in three years. The Venezuelan government retained mass electoral support because of the deep socio-economic changes that entrenched mass support in contrast to the center-left regimes in Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador which won three elections but were defeated by their right-wing opponents, including electoral partners, with a downturn in the economy, and the flight of middle-class voters and parties. Venezuelas linkages with allies in Russia, China and Cuba provided ‘life jackets’ of economic and military support in the face of US interventions, something the center- left governments failed to pursue. Venezuela built regional alliances with nearly half of South America, weakening US attempts to form a regional or US invasion force. Despite their strategic successes the Venezuelan government has committed several costly mistakes which increased vulnerability.
(1) Failure to diversify their exports, markets and banking system. The US sanctions exploited these weaknesses.
(2) Failure to carry out monetary reforms to reverse or contain hyperinflation.
(3) Failure to maintain the hydro-electoral system and secure it from sabotage.
(4) Failure to invest in and recruit new technical professional to upgrade the operation of the financial system and prosecute financial corruption in the banking system. Venezuela worked with high officials who engaged in financial and real estate transactions of a dubious nature.
(5) The failure to recruit and train working class and professional political cadres capable of oversight over management.
Venezuela has taken steps to rectify these errors but the question is whether they have time and place to realize radical reforms?

Lee Camp de schrijver van het hieronder opgenomen artikel, eerder gepubliceerd op Truthdig en door mij overgenomen van Information Clearing House, stelt in zijn openingszin dat het niet de eerste keer is dat de VS regering en de massamedia het volk van de VS een oorlog in sleept, dan wel een staatsgreep organiseert die onherroepelijk desastreuze gevolgen zal hebben….. Die uitspraak gaat wel op voor het eufemisme van het jaar, immers de VS geschiedenis vanaf 1945 staat er bol van!*
Met een terugkijk op zijn leve ten tijde van de tweede illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Irak in 2003 en hoe hij toen de zaken bekeek, waar hij het gevoel kreeg dat de argumenten voor die oorlog niet klopten, ontleedt Camp 4 illegale oorlogen van de VS die op valse gronden werden gevoerd.
Camp begint met de Spaans-Amerikaanse oorlog, waar de reden voor een VS aanval het zinken was van oorlogsschip USS Maine in de haven van Havanna. Daarna haalt hij de Vietnam oorlog aan en het conflict in de Golf van Tonkin, waar VS oorlogsschepen ‘schoten op weersverschijnselen die ze op de radar zagen……’ Oorlogsmisdadiger Robert McNamara wist op grond van deze in feite false flag operatie**, president Johnson te bewegen de strijd tegen Noord-Vietnam te intensiveren tot een ‘totale oorlog……’ Later gaf McNamara toe dat het Golf van Tonkin incident nooit plaatsvond…… Let wel: deze oorlog kostte miljoenen het leven, deze slachtoffers werden niet alleen in Vietnam vermoord (3,8 miljoenmensen), maar ook in buurlanden Laos en Cambodja……
Vervolgens komt de oorlog tegen Irak aan bod, een illegale oorlog waarvan iedereen kan weten dat deze op basis van leugens werd aangegaan door de VS, een oorlog die intussen aan meer dan 2 miljoen Irakezen het leven heeft gekost (Camp noemt overigens een aantal van 1 miljoen Irakese slachtoffers, nogal een verschil met schattingen die in Irak werden gemaakt door deskundigen, al blijft een aantal van 1 miljoen doden, een verschrikking waar je je amper iets bij voor kan stellen….)
Camp komt als eerste (hij begint vanaf het vierde voorbeeld) met het bombarderen van Syrië. Jammer dat hij niet wijst op het feit dat de VS al in 2006 heeft besloten dat Assad weg moest, niet in de laatste plaats daar hij pijpleidingen over de grond van Syrië weigerde, gaspijpleidingen van de Golfstaten richting Zuid-Europa…… (waarmee 2 vliegen in 1 klap worden geveld, immers met dat gas zou Rusland een afzet probleem krijgen in Europa…..). De VS heeft de opstand in Syrië georganiseerd en geregisseerd, waar deze terreurentiteit gewapende figuren van buiten Syrië als provocateurs heeft ingezet tijdens die ‘opstand…’ Helaas voor de VS, maar deze keer mislukte de opzet……
Camp noemt veel meer feiten en zaken die de reguliere (massa-) media niet brengen. Het verhaal eindigt tenslotte bij Venezuela, waarover Camp o.a. vertelt dat oorlogsmisdadiger Bolton zonder blikken of blozen stelde dat de VS uit is op de enorme olievoorraad van Venezuela (de op 1 na grootste voorraad ter wereld, volgens Camp de grootste maar dat klopt m.i. niet). Deze bekentenis van Bolton werd niet eens gebracht door de massamedia, nee zij houden vol dat de arme Venezolanen geholpen moeten worden, daar het hen aan alles ontbreekt, ‘zelfs aan tandpasta…’ (zie daarvoor ook de video van Lee Camp, die onder het artikel is weergegeven, waar hij ook op de ‘honger’ in Venezuela ingaat)
Niet genoemd door Camp, maar de VN en het Rode Kruis hebben de VS terecht gewezen met haar poging humanitaire hulp te politiseren, daar deze organisaties al lang humanitaire hulp verstrekken in Venezuela, er zijn zelfs 20 keer meer humanitaire hulpgoederen in Venezuela (waaronder medicijnen) dan de VS heeft klaarstaan….. Humanitaire hulpgoederen die zoals gezegd wel medicijnen bevatten, in tegenstelling tot de humanitaire hulp uit de VS, terwijl de westerse massamedia en het grootste deel van de westerse politici in navolging van hun collega’s in de VS, dat keer op keer wel stellen……. We Are Being Lied Into War Again
This is not the first time our government and our media have conspired to drag the American people into war with another country—or helped create a coup that will inevitably have disastrous results

March 08, 2019 “Information Clearing House” – I was 23 when we invaded Iraq, and I wasn’t sure it was based on lies, but something deep down in me—just behind the spleen—told me it was based on lies. Kinda like if your blind date shows up and you notice he has a 2004 flip phone. It seems vaguely worrisome, and no explanation he can haltingly supply will put you at ease. Plus, anyone else who acts like it’s normal also becomes suspect.
The invasion of Iraq just felt like it was a lie to me. And it turned out that I was right, that it was a lie, and that the entirety of the mainstream media and our government were either wrong or lying and, most of the time, both.
Now our government and our media are trying their damnedest to lie us into another war, this one with Venezuela. They tell us the Venezuelan people are desperate for necessities like toothpaste, while independent journalists show piles of affordable toothpaste in Caracas.
And even if they didn’t have toothpaste, that hardly seems like a good reason for America to be dropping our long-range bad decisions on the heads of innocent people. Turning a town into an impact crater for the sake of a battle to stop gingivitis seems a bit extreme.
The mainstream media and nearly the entirety of the U.S. government tell us Juan Guaido is the “interim president,” even though he was never elected to that position and the current president is still leading the Venezuelan government and military. So I guess this “interim” is the time between Guaido being a nobody and the time when he goes back to being nobody but now gets to tell women at parties, “You know, I used to be interim president.”
The mainstream media also inform us that the Venezuelan military set U.S. aid trucks on fire, when video shows opposition forces doing it. Furthermore, the idea of Venezuela taking “aid” from the country whose sanctions are crushing them would be like the Standing Rock Sioux accepting gift packages from the construction crews swiss-cheesing their land to lay down the Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL). Unless the boxes are filled with industrial paper towels to help clean up oil spills, I fail to see how it would be beneficial. Sometimes you do indeed have to look a gift horse in the mouth (or should I say “gift dog”).
This is not the first time our government and our media have conspired to drag the American people into war with another country—or helped create a coup that will inevitably have disastrous results. So I thought this would be a prime moment to go through the top four greatest hits.
Number 4: The Spanish-American War
This is widely considered to be the birth of modern media propaganda, because it was the first war actually started by the media. Newspapers fabricated atrocities in the never-ending quest for more readers.
And as The New York Times noted, “[T]he sensationalistic reporting of the sinking of the American battleship Maine in Havana harbor on Feb. 15, 1898 … and all the other egregious reporting leading up to the Spanish-American War might have been considered merely cartoonish if it hadn’t led to a major international conflict.”
I think maybe The New York Times got that quote confused with its mission statement: “Cartoonishly dragging America into major international conflict since 1851!”
Number 3: The Vietnam War
Sure, most everyone knows the catastrophic Vietnam War was precipitated by the Gulf of Tonkin incident, in which U.S. naval vessels were fired upon by villainous North Vietnamese torpedo boats. Following that skirmish, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara recommended that President Johnson retaliate, and the full-force Vietnam War had begun. But most Americans still don’t know that there was no Gulf of Tonkin incident—unless you count U.S. naval ships literally firing their weapons at weather events they saw on the radar. The 2003 documentary “The Fog of War” finally revealed the truth. Former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara confessed that the Gulf of Tonkin attack did not actually happen.
That’s right. It never happened. Much like leprechauns or dragons or Simon Cowell’s talent, it was a figment of our national imagination. The lies of our government, followed by the fawning, credulous reporting from our media, led to the death of 58,000 U.S. service members and as many as 3.8 million Vietnamese. The United States government has one of the most powerful Departments of Fabrication and Falsification ever assembled. It’s a modern marvel on par with the Great Pyramid of Giza and Rafael Nadal’s down-the-line running forehand.
Number 2: The Iraq War
Of course, there’s the most obvious lie about Iraq, i.e., that Saddam Hussein had so many weapons of mass destruction that he would often use one to scrub hard-to-reach places while in the tub. But that wasn’t the only falsehood manifested to bring about our complete annihilation of the sovereign nation Saddam ruled over. There were others, such as the idea that Saddam was connected to al-Qaida and perhaps played a role in the 9/11 attacks. William Safire at The New York Times, in May 2002, wrote, “Mohamed Atta, destined to be the leading Sept. 11 suicide hijacker, was reported last fall by Czech intelligence to have met at least once with Saddam Hussein’s espionage chief in the Iraqi Embassy.”
Yes, Safire was able to polish a load of bullshit so thoroughly it would sparkle like a sapphire. And that column is still up on the Times’ website, without a correction or retraction. I would say the Times is only useful for covering the bottom of a birdcage, but I’d fear the paper would lie your pet cockatoo into an ill-advised invasion, killing millions.
But the propaganda didn’t even stop there. There was also the anthrax attacks following 9/11. Anthrax was mailed to press outlets and the offices of politicians. To this day, many people still believe it had something to do with Iraq or al-Qaida because of award-winning national embarrassments like Brian Ross.
“Brian Ross at ABC News wrote ‘the anthrax in the tainted letter sent to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle was laced with bentonite’ and ‘bentonite is a trademark of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s biological weapons program.’ ” As Salon so clearly put it, “All of those factual claims … were completely false, demonstrably and unquestionably so. … Yet neither ABC nor Ross have ever retracted, corrected, clarified, or explained these fraudulent reports.”
And, as you would expect, following that blatantly false reporting, Brian Ross did not lose his job. In fact, he wasn’t put out to pasture from ABC News until last year, when he “reported that fired national security adviser Michael Flynn was ready to testify that Trump told him to contact the Russians during the campaign.”
That report—much like the rumors of Brian Ross’s journalistic integrity—turned out to be absolutely false.
(In my professional opinion, anyone who had anything to do with the selling, perpetrating or planning of the Iraq War should never again hold a position higher than assistant trainee to the guy who picks up the shit of a dog that does not belong to anyone of any particular importance. If that position does not exist, we as a nation should create it just for this moment. Yet, despite my objections, Robert Mueller (head of the FBI at the time of the invasion and a big supporter of it) is leading the biggest investigation in the country. John Bolton, who advocated for the Iraq invasion as far back as the 1990s, is now national security adviser. Bill Kristol, who pushed for the war and said it would last two months, is now a regular panelist on MSNBC. And the list goes on.)
Unlike Defense Secretary McNamara, who admitted the Gulf of Tonkin incident never happened, we don’t have a smoking gun showing that the Bush administration created these lies to get us into Iraq. … Oh, wait! Turns out the paper shredder at the Bush Oval Office was on strike for a higher minimum wage in 2002, and in fact, we do have a memo written by Bush’s defense secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, a year before U.S. forces unleashed a reign of terror on the Iraqi people. His memo about warwith Iraq stated, “How start? US discovers Saddam connection to Sept 11 or to anthrax attacks? Or maybe a dispute over WMD inspections?”
I’m not sure what’s more striking—that this memo exists, or that it sounds like the Bush boys planned a massive international battle the same way a broke 35-year-old maps out his bad novel that he’s sure is the ticket out of his mom’s basement.
“How start horrible bloody war? Maybe Saddam found to moonlight as porn star?”
Point is, multiple completely false stories laid the groundwork for an invasion of Iraq that left well over 1 million people dead.
Number 1: The Bombing of Syria
President Bashar Assad gassed his own people, thereby guaranteeing more American involvement—and he did it just days after Donald Trump had told the Pentagon to begin withdrawing troops from Syria. At least, that’s the story the corporate media repeated on-loop for at least a month, only pausing every 10 minutes to try desperately to get us all to buy more things with “baconator” in the name or to seek out a harder penis.
So we are expected to believe Assad did the one thing that would ensure more U.S. involvement just as he was about to win his war? It’s kinda like how, when I’m about to win a fistfight, I often poke myself repeatedly in the eye. You know—just to keep it exciting.
Famed journalists Seymour Hersh and Robert Fisk have done great work showing that the chemical attacks never happened, but there’s a new update. Just two weeks ago, a BBC producer came forward and said the Douma, Syria, chemical attack footage was staged.
His tweet said that after six months of investigations, he can prove that no fatalities occurred in the hospital. Yet our breathlessly inept mainstream American media, with little to no evidence, ran around saying, “There was a chemical attack! Those poor people! And they don’t have toothpaste, either! We must bomb them to help them!”
The overarching point here is that we’ve replaced our media with stenographers to the ruling elite long ago. The ruling class comes up with a lie to manufacture American consent for its all-American war crimes, and that lie is then sprayed like laminate all over average American citizens. This goes on until such time as any average citizens who question said lie is looked at like they have two heads, and one of them is covered in rat shit.
For the “journalists” who hose the lies across the country the best, awards and private jets and rooftop drinks with midlevel celebrities like Chuck Norris await them. Now we’re getting to the point where the actual rulers—the Trump administration, etc.—are not even hiding their corruption. John Bolton stated on Fox News that the ultimate goal is to steal Venezuela’s oil. But our media continue to tout the propaganda line. Even after Bolton said that, you won’t see Anderson Cooper or one of Fox News’ grand wizards saying, “Venezuela is undergoing a U.S.-backed coup because we’d like to steal their oil.” It’s truly dizzying that the corporate media preserve the propaganda even after the “leaders” have revealed their true sinister intentions.
On the inside of Wolf Blitzer’s eyelids, the phrase, “Must Defend the Matrix” blinks in red.
The propaganda line for Venezuela right now is, “We want to help the poor Venezuelans.” Well, if you want to help them, then keep America out of their face. Don’t force them to have anything to do with the country that came up with drive-through fried food served in a bucket and opioid nasal sprays. At no point does anyone look at the Donald Trump presidency and think, “Wow, that country really has things figured out. I hope they bring some of their great decision-making to our doorstep.”

Jill Stein de voormalige presidentskandidaat van de Green Party in de VS, heeft in een paar punten duidelijk gemaakt dat het de VS niet gaat om ‘mensenrechtenschendingen’ of de armoede in Venezuela, dit door te wijzen op andere situaties waar de VS totaal geen problemen heeft met deze schendingen, zelfs als ze uitmonden in massamoorden……
Wat betreft armoede moet de VS zich al helemaal stilhouden, gezien de enorme armoede in dat gestolen land, waar 29 miljoen van de 40 miljoen arme mensen* niet eens een gezondheidsverzekering hebben…….
Jammer dat Stein alleen terzijde in een Twitterbericht wijst op het feit dat het de VS gaat om olie, terwijl Venezuela de op één na grootste olievoorraad ter wereld bezit, waar Venezuela ook nog eens de beschikking over heeft over een grote hoeveelheid coltan, een grondstof die wordt gebruikt in de smartphone….. Beiden zaken waar de VS de beschikking over wil hebben…….
Als voorbeelden voor het geen probleem hebben met (fascistische) dictaturen of andere rechtse regimes, noemt Stein Colombia en Honduras, die worden gesteund door de VS (waar de VS zelfs verantwoordelijk is voor de coup van 2009 in Honduras….)…. Weer een misser, waarom niet wijzen op het feit dat de VS de Saoedische terreurcoalitie steunt bij het uitvoeren van een genocide in Jemen?? Een zaak waar de wereld echt van op de kop zou moeten staan, i.p.v. de gebeurtenissen in Venezuela, NB één op één het gevolg van de economische oorlog die de VS al jaren voert tegen dit land!!!
Wel een goed voorbeeld van Stein is het met enorm veel geweld neerslaan van protesten tegen het neoliberalisme door arme Venezolanen in 1989…… Protesten die de naam Caracazo meekregen, protesten waarbij het destijds fascistische regime een enorme slachting heeft aangericht, waarvan de naar schatting 300 tot 3.000 slachtoffers in massagraven werden gedumpt…… Caracazo was de aanloop naar de grootste slachting uit de Venezolaanse geschiedenis, aldus de schrijver Ed Sykes van het hieronder opgenomen artikel van The Canary.
Stein zegt dat de VS totaal geen moeite had met deze slachting 30 jaar geleden in Venezuela en de andere kant opkeek (vergelijk dit eens met de houding van de VS nu…), terwijl Stein stelt dat de VS rechtse (en ronduit fascistische, Ap) regimes steunt, ziet ze blijkbaar niet dat de VS ook voor deze slachting in Venezuela haar toestemming en wellicht zelfs advies heeft gegeven aan de dictatuur hoe e.e.a. aan te pakken……
Stein slaat de plank nog eens mis, door te wijzen op de arme Venezolanen die geen eten zouden hebben en in het vuilnis naar voedsel zoeken, iets waar ze terecht over zegt dat dit in de VS veelvuldig gebeurt….. De beelden over honger en andere ellende in Venezuela zijn onderdeel van de anti-Maduro propaganda…… Uiteraard zijn er zware tekorten, echter al een paar maanden zijn het Rode Kruis en de VN bezig met humanitaire hulp in Venezuela, dit met een hoeveelheid humanitaire hulpgoederen die bewezen niet in de schaduw kan staan van wat de VS klaar heeft staan over de grens van Venezuela en Brazilië……. (20 keer zoveel!)
Terecht stelt Stein dat de VS de grote tekorten in Venezuela heeft veroorzaakt, waar ze wijst op de huidige sancties, intussen overgenomen door o.a. Canada en de EU……. Alweer jammer dat Stein niet meldt dat de VS al voor de sancties bezig was met een boycot van Venezuela wat betreft levensmiddelen en medicijnen, ook al was deze boycot niet officieel, is het al lang duidelijk dat e.e.a. heeft plaatsgevonden….. Zo heeft Hillary Clinton, als minister van BuZa onder ‘vredesduif’ Obama, de VS supermarktketens met winkels in Venezuela onder druk gezet de voorraden niet of anders mondjesmaat aan te vullen, waar ze de grote farmaceuten onder druk zette hetzelfde te doen met medicijnleveringen voor Venezuela……
Het Canary artikel is wel degelijk van belang daar op een aantal hypocriete zaken wordt gewezen, zoals het aanhalen van de opstand in 1989 en bijvoorbeeld de uitlating van de VN dat de VS sancties verantwoordelijk zijn voor de doden die in Venezuela zijn gevallen…… Jammer dat niet wordt aangegeven dat de doden door de sancties, de chronisch zieken en terminaal zieken zijn, aangevuld met heel jonge slachtoffers, alles door gebrek aan medicijnen…..
Wat een gemiste kans niet even te wijzen op het feit dat dezelfde VN en het Rode Kruis beiden de VS veroordeelden voor het tot een politiek drukmiddel maken van humanitaire hulp, terwijl deze organisaties zoals gezegd allang volop humanitaire hulp verstrekken binnen de grenzen van Venezuela……
Met haar pleidooi geeft Stein de anti-propaganda van de VS en de reguliere westerse massamedia deels gelijk, anders kan ik het niet zien….. Nogmaals: het artikel is verder belangrijk genoeg om te belichten, daar er wel degelijk wordt gewezen op het schunnige beleid van de VS (en andere westerse landen) tegen in feite het Venezolaanse volk……
Wel mooi dat Stein in feite in 2 punten weergeeft hoe hypocriet de VS bezig is.
Jill Stein clobbers US warhawks with a perfect takedown of their regime-change propaganda
Former US Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has been on fire recently. In particular, she’s been putting the mainstream US left to shame with her vocal opposition to the US-backed coup attempt in Venezuela. This week, on the 30th anniversary of a notorious massacre by a US-backed government in the country, she had a perfect takedown of US warhawks. And we should all listen to her.
When the US turned a blind eye to Venezuela’s biggest massacre
As author George Ciccariello-Maher pointed out on 27 February:
30 years ago today in Venezuela: the mass rebellion against neoliberalism known as the Caracazo, which ended in the massacre of 300 to 3,000, most dumped in mass graves. Today, neoliberals claim the mantle of human rights as they try to do the same. Never forget!
And Stein spread that message. In particular, she stressed how Washington ignored the Caracazo (Venezuela’s biggest massacre in the 20th century) just like it ignores the dire situations in Colombia and Honduras today:
30 years ago Venezuela’s neoliberal gov’t brutally crushed a poor people’s uprising. US ignored it, just like it ignores political prisoners, targeted killings, & humanitarian crises in right-wing states like Colombia & Honduras. US cares about #Venezuela‘s oil, NOT human rights.
Colombia and Honduras, of course, are US allies. Venezuela, on the other hand, isn’t. And Washington has a long history of boosting far-right allies in Latin America while opposing anyone on the left.
Seriously, Washington? Stop taking the piss.
US political elites have been obsessing over Venezuela’s crisis for weeks now. They’ve also been tightening their chokehold on Venezuela’s economy with more and more sanctions. As a former UN expert toldThe Canary this week:

Stein isn’t falling for the warhawks’ propaganda and phoney concern, though. Instead, she’s been pointing out that these same elites have done precious nothing to end crises raging at home:
Isn’t it weird that Trump hasn’t done a thing to help 40M Americans in poverty, 29M without health insurance, 500K living on the streets, or entire cities without clean water… but suddenly he cares so much about humanitarian aid to #Venezuela that he’s willing to start a war?
Republicans seem concerned about a video of people in #Venezuela eating from the garbage. Strange – they’ve never done a thing to help over 500K homeless Americans! But if they really want to help Venezuelans, why not lift sanctions The Economist admitted will lead to starvation?
Isn’t it strange that Trump wants to ram through #Venezuela‘s border to “bring humanitarian aid to desperate people”, while his party wants to prosecute Americans who give water to refugees at our border? Almost like their “humanitarian aid” is just an excuse to incite a war.
Stein has brilliantly cut through the bullshit that US warhawks have been spewing for weeks now. And she’s exposed and stressed two key points:
That Washington picks and chooses which foreign crises to get angry about, usually depending on whether the local governments are allies or not.
That Washington waxes lyrical about poverty abroad, but does next to nothing to address the crisis of poverty and inequality at home.
They’re points that we all need to remember. And they’re points we need to be throwing back into the face of anyone who’s calling for illegal regime-change efforts in Venezuela.

Leden van de vluchtelingenhulpgroep ‘No More Deaths’ proberen al een paar jaar vluchtelingen die de grens van Mexico naar de VS oversteken te helpen, door voedsel, water en kleding achter te laten in de woestijnachtige gebieden die zich daar bevinden. Zeer tegen de zin van inhumane schoften die het liefst alle vluchtelingen dood zien, dat vinden fascisten namelijk een humane dood……
Deze vrijwilligers wordt o.a. verweten dat ze zich zonder vergunning in een ‘beschermd’ natuurgebied bevonden en daar de de boel hebben vervuild met jerrycans gevuld met water, aangevuld met achterlating van voedsel en kleding…… Dit in een land waar men schijt heeft aan welk natuurgebied ook, zeker als het winstgevend is om daar zaken te ontwikkelen, of een oliepijpleiding over dit land aan te leggen (die zoals bekend uit de geschiedenis) altijd gaan lekken, zo lekken ook de laatst aangelegde pijpleidingen….)….. Onder Obama was het al bar en boos wat betreft de bescherming van natuurgebieden, echter onder Trump is het hek helemaal van de dam….. Vergeet bij dit alles niet dat de VS de boel in veel Latijns-Amerikaanse landen zo heeft verziekt dat mensen op de vlucht slaan, verziekt middels het organiseren van opstanden, met de opzet onwelgevallige regeringen te laten vallen, veelal voorafgegaan door economische oorlogsvoering (neem Venezuela….*)…. Waar de VS deze staatsgrepen regisseert dan wel deze zelf uitvoert….. Zo zat de vluchtelingenkaravaan die door Midden-Amerika naar de grens met de VS trok, bomvol met vluchtelingen uit Honduras, waar de VS in 2009 de staatsgreep regisseerde en waar nu de door de VS geparachuteerde fascistische dictator Hernandez met de scepter zwaait…… Hernandez, een fascist die alles wat naar links of armoede ruikt wil uitroeien en al zeker geen actie wil tegen drugsbendes die deze mensen belagen……. Voorts zijn er doodseskaders, bestaande uit leger- en politiepersoneel, verantwoordelijk voor het uitschakelen van vakbondsleiders, mensenrechtenactivisten en milieuactivisten……. Voor deze coup in 2009 zijn Hillary Clinton, destijds minister van BuZa onder Obama en Obama zelf de hoofdverantwoordelijken…….

WHAT’S NEXT FOR NO MORE DEATHS AFTER LATEST CONVICTIONS OF VOLUNTEERS?
United States (Cronkite) – More than a decade ago, No More Deaths volunteer Dan Millis left plastic water jugs in the desert for migrants crossing the Mexican border into the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge.
Federal authorities charged him with littering in 2008, and he was found guilty by U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernardo Velasco.
Millis’ case was overturned two years later by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and it’s considered a win for the volunteer organization pledged to provide food, water and clothing for migrants crossing forbidden stretches of the Sonoran Desert.
Last week, Velasco found four more No More Deaths volunteers guilty of misdemeanor charges, not only for leaving aid, but also for trespassing on the national wildlife refuge. The four face possible prison time and a $250 fine. Sentencing has not been scheduled.
Velasco found No More Deaths volunteer Natalie Hoffman guilty of all three charges brought against her; Oona Holcomb, Madeline Huse and Zaachila Orozco-McCormick were found guilty of the two charges brought against them.
In his verdict, Velasco asserted the four defendants knowingly broke the law by entering the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge without a permit.
“The Defendants did not get an access permit, they did not remain on the designated roads, and they left water, food, and crates in the Refuge,” Velasco wrote. “All of this, in addition to violating the law, erodes the national decision to maintain the Refuge in its pristine nature.”
Millis agrees wildlife refuges are “set aside to protect the cultural and natural resources of those of areas.” However, he doesn’t think government organizations are responding adequately to what he said is an increasing number of human remains found across the desert.
“When we look at what’s happening on Cabeza Prieta, we see that there are people dying there in large numbers,” Millis said. “That is not part of what these lands were set aside for by the federal government, they’re not set aside as some sort of place where poor people can be punished as they try to migrate to survive.”
Given his own legal battle, Millis has hope for the four women found guilty Friday.
“(Velasco) said similar things about me with the bogus conviction 10 years ago. He was wrong then, and he’s wrong now,” Millis said.
Four more No More Deaths volunteers are scheduled to begin their trials Feb. 26 and March 4. Caitlin Deighan is charged with driving in a wilderness area. Deighan, Zoe Anderson, Logan Hollarsmith and Rebecca Grossman-Richeimer face charges of entering a national wildlife refuge without a permit.
A fifth volunteer, Scott Warren, is facing felony charges of harboring and conspiracy related to humanitarian aid work. His trial is set to begin in late May. Warren has taught in the past as a faculty associate at Arizona State University.
With Velasco’s decision last week, No More Deaths now has four more guilty verdicts to add to its legal history. But what do the recent convictions and upcoming trials mean for the future of providing potentially life-saving aid in Arizona’s borderlands?
The Rev. John Fife, one of the founders of No More Deaths in 2004, said the group’s guilty verdicts won’t change the work the group does.
“(The convictions) will have no impact,” said Fife, a retired Presbyterian minister. “We have a responsibility, not only to the right to provide humanitarian aid in the event of a tragedy like this, but we have a responsibility to see that the right to provide humanitarian aid is maintained.”
Katherine Franke, a legal expert on the defense’s side, said the criminalization of No More Deaths’ humanitarian work can spill over to the work of other aid organizations.
“I think any of the people who are providing social services to a range of communities in southern Arizona, some of whom might include undocumented people, are vulnerable to being prosecuted as well,” Franke said. “I’ve spoken to some of those people in southern Arizona, and they’re very worried and are watching how these cases go.”
Fife said the guilty verdicts for the four volunteers will be appealed.
“The ruling will be appealed, as have other rulings that tried to criminalize the provision of humanitarian aid in the midst of this terrible tragedy that’s going on in our desert and has for years,” he said.
The prosecution has declined to comment.
Fife, asked whether No More Deaths will continue to work in Cabeza Prieta, responded, “I think those questions, which are very detailed and very strategic, are under discussion right now because of the verdict that just came down on Friday.”

Mochten de resultaten van dergelijke smerige beïnvloeding door de VS niet naar wens zijn, kan je er bijna zeker van zijn, dat de VS een staatsgreep in een dergelijk land zal organiseren, het liefst via een opstand, zodat men haar smerige machinaties kan legitimeren……. His third installment, The Plot to Control the World: How the US Spent Billions to Change the Outcome of Elections Around the World, addresses the broad scope of US election meddling abroad. The book provides much needed political and ideological life support to an anti-war movement in the U.S that has been rendered nearly invisible to the naked eye.
The Plot to Control the World is as detailed in its critique of U.S. imperialism as it is concise. In just over 160 pages, Kovalik manages to analyze the various ways that the U.S. political and military apparatus interferes in the affairs of nations abroad to achieve global hegemony. He wastes no time in exposing the devastating lie that is American exceptionalism, beginning appropriately with the U.S. imperialist occupations of Haiti and the Philippines at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. The U.S. would murder millions of Filipinos and send both nations into a spiral of violence, instability, and poverty that continues to this day. As Kovalik explains regarding Haiti, “While the specific, claimed justifications for [U.S.] intervention changed over time- e.g., opposing the end of slavery, enforcing the Monroe Doctrine, fighting Communism, fighting drugs, restoring law and order — the fact is that the interventions never stopped and the results for the Haitian people have been invariably disastrous.”

US expansionism has relied upon the ideology of American exceptionalism to silence criticism and weaken anti-war forces in the United States. American exceptionalism claims that the U.S. is a force for good in the world and completely justified in its wars of conquest draped in the cover of spreading “democracy and freedom” around the world. Kovalik challenges American exceptionalism by showing readers just how much damage that US expansionism and militarism has caused for nations and peoples in every region of the planet.Russia, Honduras, Guatemala, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Vietnam and many other nations have seen their societies devastated by U.S. “election meddling.” In Honduras, for example, a U.S.-backed coup of left-wing President Manuel Zelaya in 2009 made the nation one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist, indigenous person, or trade-union/environmental activist. Thousands of Hondurans have been displaced, disappeared, or assassinated since the coup.
Another important aspect of The Plot to Control the World is its exposure of U.S hypocrisy surrounding the subject of “election meddling.” Since the end of the 2016 Presidential elections, the U.S. military, political, and media branches of the imperialist state have accused Russia of virtually implanting Donald Trump into the Oval office. Just ask the much-vaunted Russians. Kovalik devotes an entire chapter to the 1996 Presidential election in Russia that re-elected the wildly unpopular Boris Yeltsin. The fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 began an era of “shock therapy” in the newly erected Russian Federation, a euphemism for the wholesale theft and transfer of socialized wealth into the hands of oligarchs and multinational corporations. Millions would perish in Russia from an early death due to the sudden loss of healthcare, housing, jobs, and other basic services. In 1996, President Bill Clinton ensured that Yeltsin maintained his near total grip on state power in Russia by providing the Russian President with a team of U.S. political consultants and over a billion dollars’ worth of IMF monies directly to the campaign. U.S. political and monetary support allowed Yeltsin to rig the election in his favor despite his dwindling popularity. Kovalik shows that if anyone should worry about election meddling, it should be the people of Russia and not the US elites that control Washington.
The Plot to Control the World takes readers into the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the CIA’s coup of revolutionary Patrice Lumumba continues to haunt the resource rich nation in the form of endless US-backed genocide. It travels to Guatemala, where the CIA overthrow of Jacobo Arbenz led to a U.S.-backed slaughter of a quarter million Guatemalans under the auspices of several military dictatorships. Kovalik shows us that the election of the fascistic Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil was no aberration, as the U.S. was primarily responsible for the rise in fascism in Brazil through its direct role in placing the nation under the control of a military dictatorship in 1964. The military dictatorship predated the CIA’s ouster of Chile’s Salvador Allende in 1973, which handed the once socialist state to Augusto Pinochet’s murderous and repressive leadership.

The entire skeleton of the U.S. military state is on full display in The Plot to Control the World. The U.S. military state utilizes an array of tools to overthrow democratically-elected governments that it deems to be a threat to corporate interests. These tools include the U.S. intelligence agencies, so-called Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) such as the National Endowment for Democracy, and the various branches of the military itself, to name a few. Regardless of the tools employed, the mission is always the same: to destabilize independent nations that refuses to bow down to the dictates of U.S. imperialism. Thus, while Nicaragua, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Vietnam may possess unique histories, their economic and political development has been shaped by the destructive interference of the United States.
Dan Kovalik is not likely to be reviewed in the New York Timesor other corporate outlets. That’s because Kovalik unapologetically speaks out against U.S. empire and all that upholds it. In doing so, Kovalik’s The Plot to Control the World walks in the footsteps of anti-imperialists such as Michael Parenti and William Blum. Blum, a former State Department employee, spent his post-State Department life providing humanity with knowledge about how US imperialism operates on the global stage. The New York Times wasted no time in slandering Blum in their obituary . This showed the great lengths that the ruling elites will go to discredit, defame, and condemn critics of the military industrial complex and how important it is for those who oppose war let go of any expectation that the corporate media will cover Kovalik’s work or anyone else who speaks out against war.

The Plot to Control the World is based on a different premise: internationalism. The book links the struggle against US imperialism to the needs of the oppressed and working class living in the heart of empire, making it an essential read for those who are sick and tired of the prevailing narrative of American exceptionalism and want to be armed with knowledge that is essential toward changing it.

The fact that George W Bush has given Michelle Obama two pieces of candy is once again making headlines in mainstream outlets like Time, The Hill, and Newsweek. He has not given her any new pieces of candy since the last time he did so at his father’s funeral. He also has not ceased to be the man who facilitated the murder of a million Iraqis and inflicted a whole new level of military expansionism and Orwellian surveillance upon our world. As near as I can tell, the only reason this story is once again making headlines is because Michelle Obama and the mainstream media have decided to bring it up again.
“He has the presence of mind and the sense of humor to bring me a mint, and he made it a point to give me that mint right then and there and that’s the beauty of George Bush,” Obama said of the war criminal in conversation at the SAP Center over the weekend, which we apparently need to know about because the news is telling us about it.
“We’re all Americans. We all care about our family and our kids, and we’re trying to get ahead,” Obama continued. “And that’s how I feel about [Bush]. You know? He’s a beautiful, funny, kind, sweet man.”
I have always respected Michelle Obama. But continuing to glorify a mass murderer responsible for the death of over a million defenseless innocent civilians, reflects more on her own character than on that of that despicable war criminal.
If you’re starting to feel like attempts to rehabilitate George W Bush’s image are being aggressively shoved down your throat by the mass media at every opportunity, it’s because that is exactly what is happening. Every few weeks there’s a new deluge of headlines explaining to consumers of mainstream media why they should love the 43rd president because he’s such a cutesy wootsey cuddle pie, and completely forget about the piles upon piles of human corpses he is responsible for creating for no legitimate reason at all. The last Bush appreciation blitz was less than two weeks ago.
And there is a reason for this. Make no mistake, this relentless, aggressive campaign to rehabilitate George W Bush whether you like it or not is actually a campaign to rehabilitate what he did and the mass media’s unforgivable complicity in it.
The mass media failed spectacularly to practice due diligence and hold power to account in the lead-up to the illegal and unconscionable Iraq invasion, not just the ghouls at Fox News but respected centrist outlets like CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post as well. Bogus government reports were passed on uncritically and unquestioned, antiwar demonstrations with hundreds of thousands of protesters were ignored and downplayed, and the words “Saddam Hussein” and “9/11” were deliberately mentioned in the same breath so frequently that seven out of ten Americans still believed Saddam was responsible for the September 11 attacks months after the Iraq invasion had occurred.
In an environment where the New York Times is instructing its readers how to “help fight the information wars” against Russia, the BBC is coaching its audience to scream the word “whataboutism” whenever a skeptic of establishment Russia narratives brings up Iraq, and the US Secretary of Defense is claiming that Putin is trying to “undermine America’s moral authority,” the massive credibility hit that imperial media and institutions took by deceiving the world into the destruction of Iraq matters. Propaganda is a lot more important in cold war than in hot war since avoiding direct military confrontation limits the options of the participants, and Iraq is a giant bullet hole in the narrative of US moral authority which Moscow is rightly all too happy to point out.
Exactly this. This is a war on both morality & objective reality. People are rebranded “good” or “bad” not based on their actions, but whether or not they subscribe to a state mandated list of opinions.
Without the claim of moral authority, none of America’s manipulations against Russia make any sense. It’s absurd for America to spend years shrieking about Russian election meddling after it openly rigged Russia’s elections in the nineties, unless America claims that it rigged Russia’s elections for moral reasons while Russia rigged America’s elections for immoral reasons. It makes no sense to have mainstream western media outlets uncritically manufacturing support for wars and coaching their audiences on how to help government agencies fight “information wars” against Russia while also criticizing RT as “state media”, unless you can say that western media functions as an arm of the US government for moral reasons while RT does so for immoral reasons. It makes no sense for the US to criticize Russian military interventionism when the US is vastly more guilty of vastly more egregious forms of military interventionism, unless the US can claim its interventionism is moral while Russia’s is immoral.
For this reason it’s been necessary to rehabilitate the image of the Iraq invasion, and since there is no aspect of the Iraq invasion itself that isn’t soaked in blood and gore, they are rehabilitating its most recognizable face instead. Mainstream media outlets are doing this both to restore their own credibility and the credibility of the US world order they serve, in order to help secure crucial narrative control as we slide ever closer to a direct military confrontation with Russia and/or China.
Whoever controls the narrative controls the world, and Iraq is a major weak point in the US-centralized empire’s narrative control. When you see a political insider like Michelle Obama constantly facilitating the mass media’s fixation on how cuddly wuddly George W Bush has become, you are not witnessing a heartwarming moment, you are not witnessing redemption, and you are most certainly not witnessing the news. You are witnessing war propaganda, plain and simple.
In Wisconsin ‘the shit hits the fan’, zoals men dit in de VS ‘zo mooi’ kan zeggen. ‘This Is a Coup’: Protests Engulf Wisconsin Capitol as Outgoing Scott Walker and GOP Move to Cripple Democratic Power

As Wisconsin Republicans voted to plow ahead with a sweeping package of legislation that would allow outgoing Gov. Scott Walker to strip significant authority from Democratic governor-elect Tony Evers, outraged Wisconsinites flooded the state capitol Monday night to denounce the GOP’s brazen attempt to subvert the will of the voters and “undo democracy itself.”
“This isn’t a bill. This is a coup,” Randy Bryce—aka the “Iron Stache”—said before Wisconsin’s Joint Committee on Finance, which deliberated and ultimately voted along party lines to advance the Republican plan, which seeks to transfer many of Evers’ crucial executive powers to the GOP-dominated legislature. A final vote on the plan is expected as early as Tuesday. Apparently lacking the courage to speak on behalf of their legislation—or fearing the immense grassroots backlash—the bill’s Republican sponsors didn’t bother to show up to the lame-duck hearing. WI Democrats, Republicans butting heads ahead of Lame-Duck Session this week:
“The only way they can pull this off is if nobody finds out about it,” Ben Wikler, another Wisconsin native and MoveOn.org’s Washington director, said at Monday night’s demonstration. “I was texting right before the show with some national reporters. They can’t believe people are coming out in this weather once they hear how cold it is. We’re proving them wrong right now. This is what democracy looks like.”
If approved by the state legislature, the Republican plan would force Evers to implement Wisconsin’s Trump-approved Medicaid work requirements, stop him from banning guns in the state capitol, and restrict both his ability and that of newly-elected Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul to execute the state’s legal affairs. Werkelijk te zot en schunnig voor woorden: maar de VS troepen langs de grens met Mexico hebben het chemisch wapen traangas ingezet tegen de ongewapende vluchtelingen uit hoofdzakelijk Honduras…. Onder die vluchtelingen bevinden zich ook kinderen, blijkbaar interesseert dat de autoriteiten in de VS niet, waarschijnlijk zien ze kinderen zelfs als potentiële misdadigers……. Terwijl de VS volgens de eigen wetten en internationale wetgeving (VN Vluchtelingenverdrag) asiel zou moeten verlenen aan mensen die vervolgd worden……..
Het kan altijd nog gekker als het over de VS gaat: de vluchtelingen uit Honduras, die meer dan 90% van de vluchtelingenkaravaan uitmaken, zijn in feite op de vlucht voor de fascistische regering in Honduras, die de VS (onder verantwoording van Hillary Clinton) na een staatsgreep in 2009 tegen de democratisch gekozen president van dat land heeft geïnstalleerd……… Deze figuur heeft de economie volledig naar de kloten geholpen en laat drugsbendes hun gang gaan met het geweld dat ze tegen de bevolking gebruiken, daarnaast heeft Honduras doodseskaders die politieke en milieuactivisten en/of hun aanhangers vermoorden………. Nogmaals: de VS is verplicht deze vluchtelingen op te nemen, helaas zal dit waarschijnlijk niet gebeuren…… Je vraagt je werkelijk af waarom andere westerse landen de VS nog serieus nemen en zich zelfs laten gebruiken als moordenaars in de illegale oorlogen die dit land begint waar het maar uitkomt….. Afgelopen nacht hoorde ik op BBC World Service radio dat de VS sancties treft tegen de Nicaraguaanse minister van financiën, o.a. vanwege mensenrechtenschendingen……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! De VS doet zelf niet anders dan mensenrechten schenden, niet alleen vanwege de totaal illegale gijzeling (dubbelop, ik weet ‘t) van verdachten (ofwel mensen die niet zijn veroordeeld!) op Guantanamo Bay, of in de illegale oorlogen die deze terreurentiteit voert, maar ook vanwege de omgang met vluchtelingen, waarbij de VS zelfs kinderrechten keer op keer schendt….. Voorts onderhoud de VS uitermate goede banden met de grote mensenrechtenschenders Israël, Saoedi-Arabië (door VS gesteund bij de Genocide die deze terreurstaat aanricht in Jemen…), de Golfstaten, Egypte, de Filipijnen en ga nog maar even door, zonder ook maar één keer te malen over mensenrechtenschendingen……

(CD) — As legal experts and human rights advocates overnight and Monday morning continued to denounce the tear gassing of children and other asylum seekers by U.S. forces at the Mexico border on Sunday, Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among Democratic lawmakers who slammed the Trump administration for its treatment of refugees as she issued a reminder that vulnerable people fleeing violence and persecution have the right, codified by domestic and international law, to apply for asylum protection.
Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn’t a crime.
It wasn’t for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It wasn’t for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It wasn’t for communities fleeing war-torn Syria. And it isn’t for those fleeing violence in Central America.
“The migrants at our southern border include mothers and small children exercising their legal, human right to seek asylum,” declared the ACLU in a tweet on Monday morning, and told the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, “Tear gassing children is outrageous and inhumane.”

The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR) said that with asylum seekers, including children, being choked by tear gas along the U.S. border with Mexico, “a humanitarian crisis becoming even more inhumane.” Echoing Ocasio-Cortez and other rights groups, NNIRR emphasized that both “U.S. and international laws say these migrants have the right to apply for asylum.”
