Ja, je weet niet wat je ziet als je op Mondoweiss leest dat het meer dan achterlijke ‘verdrag’, gesloten tussen Israël en de VS, genoemd ‘Deal of the Century’, niet genoeg is voor Israël, dit gestolen land schendt zelfs dit eenzijdige verdrag door een nederzetting toe te staan op gebied dat volgens het ‘verdrag’ aan de Palestijnen moet toekomen……
Daarover gesproken, Palestijnen: hoe kan je van een verdrag spreken als één van de twee partijen (waar het in feit om gaat) niet mee mag doen aan de besprekingen die tot dit verdrag hebben geleid?? Het is dan ook een verdrag van de 2 terreurstaten VS en Israël die eigenlijk maar 1 ding willen: alle Palestijnen het land uitschoppen….. Het voorliggende ‘verdrag’ zal bij uitvoering zorgen voor nog meer ellende onder de Palestijnen en gegarandeerd dat een fiks aantal van hen zal vluchten, want dat is de laatste mogelijkheid als je het leven onmogelijk wordt gemaakt……. Je kan dit Israëlische beleid, het leven van Palestijnen onmogelijk maken, een beleid dat overigens al bestaat vanaf 1948, niet anders noemen dan een langzame etnische zuivering……
De brutaliteit van de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël kent dan ook geen grenzen meer, zelfs dit wurgverdrag is niet genoeg voor de massamoordenaars die Israël besturen….. Ongelofelijk dat alle westerse landen het laten afweten als het om het verdrukte Palestijnse volk gaat, daarbij vergeleken is Assad, die in de reguliere westerse media als bloedig dictator bekend staat, nog maar een beginneling…… (overigens moet ik daaraan toevoegen dat Assad ten onrechte wordt afgeschilderd als bloedig dictator, klik voor meer berichten over Assad en Syrië op één van deze labels, direct onder dit bericht)

The reason Israelis will go to the poll for a third time in a year is because Israel’s peculiar brand of “democracy” really is nothing of the sort. Why? Because the votes of Palestinian citizens of Israel simply don’t count
As I’ve written here several times before, in almost any other functioning democracy, parties in the same predicament as Likud and Blue & White would be courting the Joint List with amazing offers in order to form a government. But in Israel the party that got the third largest number of votes in the last election is shunned because to caucus with it is seen as an affront to “Jewish democracy.” Yet it’s worse, not only will the main parties not
cooperate with the Joint List but senior members of Blue & White (the so-called more centrist party*) openly brag about how killing Palestinians is virtuous.Funny how you don’t hear about this in the New York Times’ coverage of the elections.
Remember the “peace plan” Trump unveiled a few weeks ago? Well, as absurdly one-sided it was, it seems it wasn’t even one-sided enough for Israel. In fact, Israel has announced plans for a new settlement on land that was togo to a Palestinian Bantustan.I wonder if this signals Israeli rejection of Trump’s plan of the century?

Werkelijk ongelofelijk, het vredesplan dat de Trump terreuradministratie en de terreurstaat Israël hebben opgesteld. De Palestijnen krijgen zogenaamd een eigen staat, waar Israël de grenzen controleert en verantwoordelijk blijft voor de veiligheid, wat voor ‘eigen staat’ is dat dan?? De nederzettingen worden gelegaliseerd, tegen de wil van de VN en ook deze liggen zoals het woord legalisering al laat zien in Palestijns gebied, dit betekent dat de Israëlische legermacht volop aanwezig zal zijn in de ‘Palestijnse staat….’
Die ‘Palestijnse staat’ komt er alleen als Hamas verdwijnt uit openluchtgevangenis Gazastrook, die het best te vergelijken is met het getto van Warschau tijdens WOII…… Hamas is niet alleen een politieke partij, maar ook een sociale beweging, die het lijden van het verdrukte Palestijnse volk in de Gazastrook probeert te verlichten…….
Jeruzalem wordt de ongedeelde hoofdstad van Israël en tegelijkertijd zal Oost-Jeruzalem de hoofdstad van de Palestijnen worden…. Hoe totaal knettergek moet je zijn om iets dergelijks alleen al te opperen???!!!!
Dit hele plan is een aanfluiting en zal zeker geen vrede brengen, des te schandaliger ook dat o.a. Nederland dit plan steunt, je moet als minister van Buitenlandse Zaken wel een ‘vol-idioot’ (mooi germanisme) zijn om een dergelijk belachelijk en zelfs debiel plan te steunen, ach ja het gaat dan ook om VVD oppersufferd en leeghoofd Blok (en de rest van het afbraakkabinet Rutte 3).
Nederland ondernam geen actie toen de Joden in nazi-Duitsland als minderheid werden vervolgd en stuurde het overgrote deel van de gevluchte Joden terug in de armen van de moorddadige nazi’s, blijkbaar heeft men niets geleerd, immers ook nu kiest Nederland voor de vervolgers van een minderheid……
Lullig genoeg werden de Palestijnen gedreigd het plan te accepteren, daar ze anders een ‘zware prijs’ zullen betalen….. Benieuwd wat men daar onder verstaat, als je ziet dat Israël op ongewapende Palestijnse demonstranten schiet (inclusief kinderen, medisch hulpverleners en journalisten) en deze mensen daadwerkelijk vermoord…. Dan zijn er nog de Israëlische bombardementen op woonhuizen in de openluchtgevangenis (getto) Gazastrook…… Voorts maakt Israël het leven van de bewoners van de Gazastrook en de West Bank onmogelijk, ofwel is bezig met een langzame etnische zuivering van deze gebieden…… Om dit alles te overtreffen moet Israël minstens een tactisch kernwapen inzetten tegen de Palestijnen….
Hoe kan je een vredesplan maken, terwijl je de onderliggende partij, het verdrukte Palestijnse volk, niet laat meedenken aan het vormen van dat plan..??!!!
Hoe is het gvd mogelijk dat er mensen en politici zijn die dit ‘vredesplan’ als goed beoordelen en zelfs goedkeuren??!!! (hoe gek moet je zijn…) Als de VS zich terugtrekt uit het Midden-Oosten en stopt met het steunen van Israël, zou het Midden-Oosten al heel wat vreedzamer zijn…..

Turning to Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, Abbas said that whoever wants to help is welcome.
“We invited the Hamas movement to attend the emergency meeting of the leadership and they will take part in the meeting,” senior Palestinian official Azzam al-Ahmed said.
The elected government of Gaza have been at odds with President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement for years, with Hamas representatives rarely taking part in meetings of the West Bank-based Palestinian leadership.
The Palestinians meanwhile have urged world powers to reject Trump’s plan.
“We call on the international community to not be partners in this (plan) because it contravenes international law,” Palestinian prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said on Monday.
The details of Trump’s initiative, which has been in the works since 2017, are not yet public.
The release of the plan comes as Trump faces impeachment hearings over abuse of office.
Netanyahu is facing imminent trial proceedings, after dropping his request for parliamentary immunity from corruption charges in a surprise move Tuesday.
“This is a plan to protect Trump from impeachment and protect Netanyahu from prison,” Shtayyeh told a cabinet meeting Monday. “It is not a Middle East peace plan.”
With little global support for Trump’s plan, it’s likely destined for the trash heap of diplomatic history. Before it goes there, though, you can read the full report here.
Scott Roth van Mondoweiss heeft gisteren een artikel geplaatst waarin hij stelt dat het vormen van een Israëlische regering al lang rond zou zijn geweest, als men de grootste Palestijnse politieke partij, de Gezamenlijke Lijst, serieus zou nemen en deze zou toestaan mee te regeren als derde grote partij (en dan durft men te stellen dat Israël de enige democratische staat is in het Midden-Oosten……*). Er is echter geen politieke Joodse partij van betekenis die met Palestijnen wil regeren, van ‘links’ tot rechts wil men de Palestijnen niet zien deelnemen aan een kabinet……
Als de Gezamenlijke Lijst serieus zou worden genomen door de grote Joodse partijen, waren veel bloedige uitspattingen, zoals de massamoorden door de Israëlische agressor op Palestijnen tijdens The Great Return March, waarschijnlijk niet eens gepasseerd……
Roth wijst verder o.a. op een eerder artikel op Mondoweiss waarin wordt gesteld dat het volk van de VS (althans het nadenkende deel) een meer progressieve buitenlandpolitiek voorstaat, waarin men ook een andere houding verlangt t.o.v. Israël, in plaats van het zonder enige kritiek steunen van de bloedige Israëlische politiek tegen de Palestijnen….. Moet zeggen dat ik dit amper of niet geloofwaardig vind, hoe graag ik die verandering van houding ook zou zien…..
Voorlopig juicht een groot deel van het Israëlische volk (het Joodse deel zoals je begrijpt), als ook een heel groot deel van het volk in de VS, de uitlatingen van o.a. Netanyahu toe om de West Bank te annexeren en de Palestijnse bevolking te concentreren in en rond 1 of 2 steden (en dat waarschijnlijk voor een groot deel in door Israël gecontroleerde kampen….)…….
Eén ding is zeker, met de westerse steun voor Israël, waarbij men alle kritiek op Israël (zoals het schrijven van Mondeweiss) afwijst als antisemitisch, ook al heeft het daar niets mee te maken…. Niet alleen de westerse politici zijn daar schuldig aan, nee juist de reguliere media doen niet anders dan de massa hersenspoelen met leugens als zou elke kritiek op Israël antisemitisch zijn ingegeven……
Alsof je als het gaat om recht en onrecht, of om discriminatie en apartheid, dan wel over het onderdrukken van een volk, er twee maten zijn, waarbij de Joden alles mogen doen wat ‘god’ in het westen heeft verboden, alleen omdat ze Joods zijn…… Zie de hysterie over Venezuela, waar men met veel omhaal en leugens stelt dat de bevolking wordt verdrukt door Maduro, echter als Maduro hetzelfde zou flikken als Netanyahu (en zijn bloedige regeringen) waren de rapen pas echt goed gaar geweest en had de VS, met steun van het westen al lang ingegrepen (de NAVO heeft al 2 bases in Colombia, niet ver van de grens met Venezuela, waar ‘NAVO-partner’ [de werkelijke leider van dit terreur-bondgenootschap] de VS zelf al veel langer militaire bases heeft in dat land….)……

It has now been over a month since Israel’s redo parliamentary elections and a new government has yet to be seated. As has been written many times before here, if there was not a de facto ban on Palestinian political parties joining a government, this impasse would have been over long ago.
It’s also evident that if Palestinian citizens of Israel (whose candidates in the last election would be the third largest block in a new parliament) were able to sit in a governing coalition then things in Israel would probably be different, or at least there would be real pressure for change. It would probably be harder for Israel to demolish the homes of some of its
Bedouin citizens if the candidates who those same people voted for were actually governing the country. In other words, if Israel was a functioning democracy (which it is not), and the political will of all its citizens was factored into policy, then in all likelihood Israel would be a better place and maybe worthy of being called a true democracy. But instead the conflict remains mired in what is an anachronistic and unjust two-state paradigm that only enables the fallacious idea of a democratic Jewish state to continue.
And while there is of late greater support for a more
progressive U.S. foreign policy that would include pressuring Israel in a real way, there are still certain people who will defame you in a hideously disingenuous manner should you challenge them, or Israel. Everyone has a choice, you can give up in the face of intimidation or choose to fight it. Justice can’t lose if enough of us choose to fight for it.

Het uitvoerige 9/11 rapport, n.a.v. de aanslagen in 2001 laat veel vragen open, vragen als waarom werden een fiks aantal zaken niet onderzocht, terwijl ze wel degelijk heel belangrijk waren (en zijn) voor het onderzoek naar die aanslagen. Niet alleen werd Saoedi-Arabië afgeschermd terwijl het grootste deel van de ‘daders’uit dat land kwam, maar ook een groep Israëlische mannen die met de Twin Towers brandend op de achtergrond feest vierden en elkaar ‘high fives gaven’, waarbij het geheel werd gefilmd…….
‘Daders’: dus degenen die de vliegtuigen zouden hebben gevlogen, waar het volgens deskundigen onmogelijk is voor slecht opgeleide piloten om een vliegtuig een gebouw in te vliegen als op de manier die werd gebruikt op 11 september 2001 met de Twin Towers….. Bovendien is het meer dan duidelijk dat de torens en gebouw 7 van het WTC werden ondermijnd met explosieven, vliegtuigen zouden onmogelijk het instorten van deze gebouwen kunnen veroorzaken, zo stelt intussen een heel leger aan deskundigen……
E.e.a. kan maar tot 1 conclusie leiden: de geheime diensten van de VS hebben meegewerkt aan deze aanslagen….. Niet voor niets dat de VS de grootste baat had bij het instorten van de Twin Towers en gebouw 7 van het WTC……. Ten eerste had men weer een vijand nodig voor het militair-industrieel complex, een vijand die er niet meer was met het verdwijnen van de Sovjet-Unie, tien jaar eerder….. Ten tweede dacht men hiermee een excuus te hebben om Irak aan te vallen, de wens van de psychopathische Bush administratie….. Ten derde verdween een groot deel van de schulden van de VS. Ten vierde kon men het instorten van de beurs (die al gaande was voor 9/11) afwentelen op een terreuraanslag. Ten vijfde kwamen met de aanslagen van 9/11 enorme kapitalen vrij voor de geheime diensten van de VS., bovendien werden de bevoegdheden van die diensten fiks uitgebreid ten koste van de privacy van burgers…….. Ook Israël, de ‘grote’ bondgenoot van de VS, had baat bij de aanslagen, zoals Palestijnenslachter Natanyahu zelf opmerkte….. Mensen er zijn nog meer redenen, zoals het oppompen van de populariteit van Bush, die op een dieptepunt was beland, maar de hiervoor genoemde redenen zijn wel de belangrijkste. Echter vergeet niet dat Israël naast het hieraan voorgaande, belang had bij de ‘war on terror’ die begon met de 9/11 aanslagen en waarbij een aantal vijanden van Israël het doelwit werden van VS terreur, want zo moet je de ongebreidelde agressie (o.a. in de vorm van illegale oorlogen) van de VS zien….. Niet voor niets dat de Bush administratie alles op alles zette om Irak, een vijand van Israël, de aanslagen in de schoenen te schuiven (zo zou Saddam Hoessein Al Qaida, NB een terreurgroep die tot zijn grootste vijanden behoorde, hebben ondersteund bij de aanslagen). De Bush administratie begon de illegale oorlog in 2003 uiteindelijk op basis van de leugens over massavernietigingswapens, een oorlog die intussen aan meer dan 1,5 miljoen Irakezen het leven heeft gekost…….

Israel’s Role In 9/11
FBI evidence supports prior knowledge or complicity

June 03, 2019 “Information Clearing House” – The tale of 9/11 will just not go away, largely because it is clear to anyone who reads the lengthy 9/11 Commission Report that many issues that should have been subject to inquiry were ignored for what would appear to be political reasons. The George W. Bush Administration quite obviously did not want to assume any blame for what had happened and that bias also extended to providing cover for U.S. “allies,” most particularly Saudi Arabia and Israel. Those who have sought the truth about 9/11 have been persistent in their attempts to find out information that was suppressed but they have been blocked repeatedly in spite of numerous FOIA requests. Now, eighteen years after the event, there has been something like a breakthrough, penetrating the wall of silence erected by the government. FBI reports on the possible Israeli role in 9/11 were released on May 7th and they serve to support speculation by myself and other former intelligence officers that Israel, at a minimum, had detailed prior knowledge of what was to take place. More than that, Israeli intelligence officers working in the United States might well have enabled certain aspects of the conspiracy. To recount some of what is already known and suspected, one should first examine the 2016 release of a heavily edited and redacted 28 pages long annex to the 9/11 Commission Report that explored the Saudi Arabian role in the terrorist attack . The section concluded that the Saudi government may have played a direct role in 9/11 by assisting two of the hijackers, including a dry run exercise intended to learn how to get into a plane’s cockpit. There was also considerable evidence suggesting that wealthy Saudis and even members of the Royal Family had been supporting and funding al-Qaeda. But far exceeding the Saudi role is the involvement of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, which was not subject to any serious inquiry or investigation by U.S. intelligence or police agencies. Israel, in spite of obvious involvement in 9/11, was not included in the 9/11 Commission Report despite the existence of an enormous Israeli intelligence operation freely working in the United States that was known to the FBI. Some of those Mossad officers were notably filmed celebrating as the Twin Towers were burning and collapsing.
In the year 2001 Israel was running a massive spying operation through a number of cover companies in New Jersey, Florida and also on the west coast that served as spying mechanisms for Mossad officers. The effort was supported by the Mossad Station in Washington D.C. and included a large number of volunteers, the so-called “art students” who traveled around the U.S. selling various products at malls and outdoor markets. The FBI was aware of the numerous Israeli students who were routinely overstaying their visas and some in the Bureau certainly believed that they were assisting their country’s intelligence service in some way, but it proved difficult to actually link the students to undercover operations, so they were regarded as a minor nuisance and were normally left to the tender mercies of the inspectors at the Bureau of Customs and Immigration. American law enforcement was also painfully aware that the Israelis were running more sophisticated intelligence operations inside the United States, many of which were focused on Washington’s military capabilities and intentions. Some specialized intelligence units concentrated on obtaining military and dual use technology. It was also known that Israeli spies had penetrated the phone systems of the U.S. government, to include those at the White House. In its annual classified counterespionage review, the FBI invariably places Israel at the top for “friendly” countries that spy on the U.S. In fact, the pre-9/11 Bureau did its best to stay on top of the problem, but it rarely received any political support from the Justice Department and White House if an espionage case involved Israelis. By one estimate, more than 100 such cases were not prosecuted for political reasons. Any Israeli caught in flagrante would most often be quietly deported and most Americans who were helping Israel were let off with a slap on the wrist. But the hands-off attitude towards Israel shifted dramatically when, on September 11, 2001, a New Jersey housewife saw something from the window of her apartment building, which overlooked the World Trade Center. She watched as the buildings burned and crumbled but also noted something strange. Three young men were kneeling on the roof of a white transit van parked by the water’s edge, making a movie in which they featured themselves high fiving and laughing in front of the catastrophic scene unfolding behind them. The woman wrote down the license plate number of the van and called the police, who responded quickly and soon both the local force and the FBI began looking for the vehicle, which was subsequently seen by other witnesses in various locations along the New Jersey waterfront, its occupants “celebrating and filming.” The license plate number revealed that the van belonged to a New Jersey registered company called Urban Moving Systems. At 4 p.m. the vehicle was spotted and pulled over. Five men between the ages of 22 and 27 years old emerged and were detained at gunpoint and handcuffed. They were all Israelis. One of them had $4,700 in cash hidden in his sock and another had two foreign passports. Bomb sniffing dogs reacted to the smell of explosives in the van, which had very little actual moving equipment inside. According to the initial police report, the driver identified as Sivan Kurzberg, stated “We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.” The four other passengers were Sivan’s brother Paul, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari. The men were detained at the Bergen County jail in New Jersey before being transferred the FBI’s Foreign Counterintelligence Section, which handles allegations of spying. After the arrest, the FBI obtained a warrant to search Urban Moving System’s Weehawken, N.J., offices. Papers and computers were seized. The company owner Dominick Suter, also an Israeli, answered FBI questions but when a follow-up interview was set up a few days later it was learned that he had fled the country for Israel, putting both his business and home up for sale. The office space and warehouse were abandoned. It was later learned that Suter has been associated with at least fourteen businesses in the United States, mostly in New Jersey and New York but also in Florida. Suter and his wife Omit Levinson Suter were the owners of 1 Stop Cleaner located in Wellington Florida and Dominick was also associated with Basia McDonnell, described as a Polish “holocaust survivor,” as a business partner in yet another business called Value Ad. Florida was a main focus for the Israeli intelligence operation in the U.S. that was directed against Arabs. The five Israelis were among 140 Israelis arrested after 9/11, most of whom had military backgrounds, including some who were trained in “intelligence.” The five were held in Brooklyn, initially on charges relating to visa fraud. FBI interrogators questioned them for more than two months. Several were held in solitary confinement so they could not communicate with each other and two of them were given repeated polygraph exams, which they failed when claiming that they were nothing more than students working summer jobs. The two men that the FBI focused on most intensively were believed to be Mossad staff officers and the other three were volunteers helping with surveillance. The Israelis were not exactly cooperative, but the FBI concluded from documents obtained at their office in Weehawken that they were targeting Arabs in New York and New Jersey, most particularly in the Paterson N.J. area, which has the second largest Muslim population in the U.S. They were particularly interested in local groups possibly linked to Hamas and Hezbollah as well as in charities that might be used for fund raising. The FBI also concluded that the Israelis had actually monitored the activities of at least two of the 9/11 hijackers. To be sure, working on an intelligence operation does not necessarily imply participation in either the planning or execution of something like 9/11, but there are Israeli fingerprints all over the place, with cover companies and intelligence personnel often intersecting with locations frequented by the hijackers. Apart from the interrogations of the five men from Weehawken, the U.S. government has apparently never sought to find out what else the Israelis might have known or were up to in September 2011. There are a lot of dots that might well have been connected once upon a time, but the trail has grown cold. Police records in New Jersey and New York where the men were held have disappeared and FBI interrogation reports have been inaccessible. Media coverage of the case also died, though the five were referred to in the press as the “dancing Israelis” and by some, more disparagingly, as the “dancing Shlomos.” Inevitably, the George W. Bush White House intervened. After 71 days in detention, the five Israelis were released from prison by Attorney General John Ashcroft, put on a plane, and deported. Two of the men later spoke about their unpleasant experience in America on an Israeli talk show, one explaining that their filming the fall of the Twin Towers was to “document the event.” In 2004 the five men sued the United States government for damages, alleging “that their detention was illegal and that their civil rights were violated, suffering racial slurs, physical violence, religious discrimination, rough interrogations, deprivation of sleep, and many other offenses.” They were represented by Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, who in the previous year had founded the Shurat HaDin Israel Law Center which seeks to bankrupt groups that Israel considers to be “terrorists.” Shurat HaDin is closely tied to the Israeli government. Now it is just possible that the Urban Moving Israelis were indeed uninvolved in 9/11 but nevertheless working for Mossad, which the Israeli government even subsequently admitted, but the new evidence suggests that the Israelis almost certainly had considerable prior knowledge and were likely involved in what developed. The new information reveals that minutes after the first plane struck the World Trade Center, five Israelis had taken up position in the parking lot of the Doric Apartment Complex in Union City, New Jersey, where they took pictures and filmed the attacks while also celebrating the fall of the towers and “high fiving.” One eyewitnessinterviewed by the Bureau had seen the Israelis’ van circling the building parking at 8:00 a.m. that day, more than 40 minutes prior to the attack, indicating prior knowledge of what was about to happen. The eyewitness testimony is supported by copies of photos taken by the men that the FBI seized. The photo reproductions were obtained via a FOIA request made by a private citizen and are of poor quality, deliberately made so by the FBI to conceal faces and other details. They constitute only 14 of over seventy photos taken by the Israelis. Nevertheless, they clearly demonstrate that a celebration was going on. One photo, intriguingly, shows Sivan Kurzberg holding a lit lighter in front of the Manhattan Skyline on September 10th, one day before 9/11. It was apparently taken at the Doric Complex on a reconnoitering visit made on that day and suggests that Kurzberg was simulating the attack on the towers on the following day. Why would the Israelis do it? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described 9/11 initially as “a good thing.” He was later quoted as saying somewhat more expansively “We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq.” To be sure, 9/11 was a gift to Israel and it is a gift that keeps on giving. (MEMO) – An Israeli journalist who called Israeli army soldiers “animals” for beating a Palestinian father and son in custody is to face trial.
Oshrat Kotler, a journalist with Israel’s Channel 13, is to face trial on charges of incitement, incrimination of suspects, failure to grant a right of reply and more after she called several soldiers accused of beating two Palestinians in custody “human animals”, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Speaking on the channel’s news programme in February, Kotler said:
When you send your children to the [Israeli] army, they are kids. You send them to the [occupied Palestinian] territories, and they come back as human animals. This is the result of the occupation.
Her comments allegedly prompted complaints from thousands of viewers, as well as complaints to Israel’s Press Council, an independent body established to safeguard press freedoms and outline journalism ethics. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also responded to Kotler’s comments, saying her words “deserve every condemnation” and that he is “proud of the [Israeli army] soldiers and loves them very much.”
She now faces trial and will appear at a court hearing, though it is unclear when she will be summoned.
The Israeli soldiers to whom Kotler referred were last week convicted of aggravated assault and aggravated battery for beating a 50-year-old Palestinian and his 15-year-old son who were detained in custody. The soldiers were suspected of beating the father and son as revenge for a
December attack on members of their battalion, since both sets of soldiers belong to the same unit – the ultra-Orthodox Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, which is stationed in northern West Bank city of Jenin.
Details of the brutal beating emerged during February’s court proceedings, with the 15-year-old boy telling the court: “I was lying on my back, with hands cuffed behind my back and a blindfold over my eyes. I was kicked by four soldiers – who used their hands, feet and the barrels of their M16 rifles – in the face, chest, abdomen, legs, and testicles […] I couldn’t open my left eye and my mouth was filled with blood.”
Despite the severity of the crimes and the Netzah Yehuda battalion’s history of anti-Palestinian violence, the soldiers reached a plea bargain and will serve only 190 days in prison. They were sentenced yesterday by an Israeli military court.
The bid to take Kotler to court will be seen as the latest evidence of Israel’s attempts to silence anyone who criticises its army or politicians. Journalists in particular have come under attack, with Netanyahu slamming the “left-wing media” for conspiring against him and the country’s interests ahead of the upcoming election on 9 April.
Netanyahu drew criticism in January when a billboard appeared outside Tel Aviv showing a number of prominent journalists who have been critical of his premiership with the words “they will not decide”. The four journalists had been closely covering the corruption scandal in which Netanyahu has long been embroiled, and it was thought his Likud party was behind the campaign to discredit them. Netanyahu’s rivals lambasted the move, with head of the Yesh Atid party and Blue and White (Kahol Lavan) co-leader Yair Lapid labelling the move incitement.
Netanyahu has also tried to side-step the mainstream media by creating his own TV channel, dubbed Likud TV. Launching the channel on his official Facebook page with the slogan “we’re throwing the ‘fake’ out of the news,” Netanyahu said that “whoever the media praises is bad for Likud and usually whoever it crucifies is good for Likud”.
Commentators were quick to point out the similarity between Netanyahu’s campaign and that of US President Donald Trump, noting that Likud TV “seems to follow the model of [Trump’s] Real News Update” ahead of the US elections due to be held in 2020. Trump has championed the “fake news” narrative, labelling journalists the “enemy of the people” and taking aim at some of America’s biggest news outlets.

Het voorgaande daar de psychopaten, die 99% het Israëlische leger vormen, o.a. schoten (met het doel te doden) op ongewapende Palestijnse: kinderen, invaliden, medisch hulpverleners (waaronder een arts) en journalisten…… Waar deze groepen duidelijk als zodanig herkenbaar waren, de medisch hulpverleners zelfs nog met duidelijk zichtbare kleding (dat dit aangaf), bovendien werden zij vermoord terwijl ze medische hulp boden aan gewonden, voorts waren de journalisten te herkennen aan het woord ‘pers’ op hun kleding…….
Israël heeft volgens de VN 189 Palestijnen vermoord, die voor het overgrote deel ongewapend waren, degenen die ‘bewapend waren’, werkte met katapulten en slingers, me dunkt tegenover het modern en zwaar bewapende Israëlische leger geen tegenstander die er toe doet……… Verder moet je niet vergeten dat er naast de doden ook nog eens meer dan 6.100 gewonden te betreuren waren, waaronder uiteraard een flink aantal zwaar gewonden, niet zo vreemd als je bedenkt dat het de opzet was deze mensen te vermoorden…..
Wel moet gezegd worden dat de cijfers, die genoemd worden in het artikel, zoals gezegd van de VN, eerdere onderzoeken tegenspreken, er zouden veel meer doden zijn gevallen (rond de 250), inclusief een groter aantal dode Palestijnse kinderen, dit zouden er al meer dan 50 zijn….. Ofwel: ondanks dat de cijfers van de VN al schokkend genoeg zijn, is het aantal genoemde doden en gewonden aan de lage kant, om het voorzichtig uit te drukken (wat betreft het aantal gewonden werden eerder cijfers van ver boven de 10.000 genoemd….)
De VN noemde de moorden een paar weken geleden volkomen terecht oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid……

Israel is carrying out criminal investigations into the killing of 11 Palestinians by Israeli forces at border protests in Gaza last year, Israeli officials said on Wednesday, says Reuters.
A United Nations human rights panel said two weeks ago that Israeli troops had killed 189 Palestinians and wounded more than 6,100 at protests from March 30 to December 31. Their actions may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, it said.
Senior Israeli officials, speaking to reporters in Geneva on Wednesday, rejected the finding that its forces may have committed war crimes.
The UN report also said Israel had opened criminal investigations in only five cases, including the death of four children.
But a senior Israeli official said an inquiry was held into each and every death. Israel had opened about 300 initial inquiries, and criminal investigations were underway related to 11 individuals, he said.
“If we find somebody violated the law there will be consequences as well. But for a war crime, it needs to be intentional.”
Under Israeli rules of engagement, live fire can be used only if there is a real and imminent threat from individuals or a mob, and only as a last resort, the official said.
“Each and every bullet received authorisation of an experienced commander at the scene,” he said.
The Gaza protesters are demanding Israel ease a blockade of the enclave and recognize their right to return to lands their families fled or were forced from when Israel was founded in 1948.
Thirty-five children, two journalists and three “clearly-marked” paramedics were among those killed by Israeli forces, in violation of international humanitarian law, the UN panel said. Other victims included a double amputee in a wheelchair.
The senior Israeli official, asked about such killings, said: “The idea as policy is never aimed fire at a journalist, women or children. But in course of events, somebody could be hit by mistake.”
Israel has said its forces opened fire to protect the border from incursions and attacks by armed militants.
The officials accused the UN investigators of having ignored the role of Hamas in inciting Palestinian civilians, deploying militants among the activists, and firing 1,300 rockets into Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the report and accused the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which launched the investigation, of hypocrisy and lies fuelled by “an obsessive hatred for Israel”.
The Geneva forum is expected next week to back the panel’s findings, including a call for a referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC), diplomats say. The Hague court has opened a preliminary investigation into allegations of Israeli rights abuses on Palestinian territory in 2015.

(CJ Opinion) — Days after being smashed with a vicious establishment smear campaign to paint her as an antisemite for accurately criticizing AIPAC, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is already back on the horse aggressively disrupting the establishment narrative matrix that our rulers have worked so hard to construct for us.
Elliott Abrams is a monster. The atrocities that he has facilitated, covered up and whitewashed in Panama, El Salvador, Gaza, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Iraq are utterly unforgivable, and the fact that he has been appointed as special envoy to Venezuela by the Trump administration completely invalidates the US government’s Venezuela narrative all by itself. Even without the blatant lies, the known oil agendas, the CIA ops, the mounting evidence of US arms smuggling to right-wing militias, and America’s extensive history of utterly disastrous regime change interventionism, the fact that this administration would appoint such a ghoulish individual to spearhead its Venezuela interventionism alone is enough to show you that the US government has nothing but malevolent intentions for that nation.
So it was nice to see someone in that government calling him what he is right to his face in front of everybody.
At a House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) hearing on US Venezuela policy, Abrams was presented with the only line of questioning that is appropriate for such a beast by the very congresswoman the Democrats threw to the wolves just two days ago. Someone had to do it, and they left it to Ilhan Omar.
“In 1991, you pleaded guilty to two counts of withholding information from Congress regarding your involvement in the Iran-Contra affair, for which you were later pardoned by President George H.W. Bush,” Omar accurately stated. “I fail to understand why members of this committee, or the American people should find any testimony that you give today to be truthful.”
“If I could respond to that-” Abrams began.
“That wasn’t a question,” Omar responded, cutting him off.
“It was an attack! It was an attack!” Abrams exclaimed, visibly upset.
“I reserve the right to my time,” said Omar.
“It is not right that members of this Committee can attack a witness who is not permitted to reply,” Abrams said, talking over Omar.
“That was not a question; thank you for your participation,” Omar continued. “On February 8th, 1982, you testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about US foreign policy in El Salvador. In that hearing, you dismissed as communist propaganda a report about the massacre of El Mozote of which more than 800 civilians, including children as young as two years old, were brutally murdered by U.S.-trained troops. During that massacre, some of those troops bragged about raping 12 year-old girls before they killed them. You later said that the U.S. policy in El Salvador was a ‘fabulous achievement.’ Yes or no, do you still think so?”
“From the day that President Duarte was elected in a free election, to this day, El Salvador has been a democracy,” Abrams said angrily. “That’s a fabulous achievement.”
“Yes or no, do you think that massacre was a fabulous achievement that happened under our watch?” Omar asked.
“That is a ridiculous question and I will not respond to it,” Abrams replied. “I’m sorry Mr. Chairman, I am not going to respond to that kind of personal attack which is not a question.”
“I will take that as a yes,” Omar said. “Yes or no, would you support an armed faction within Venezuela that engages in war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide if you believe they were serving US interests as you did in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua?”
“I’m not going to respond to that question,” Abrams again answered. “I’m sorry, I don’t think this entire line of questioning is meant to be real questions, and so I will not reply.”
“Whether under your watch a genocide will take place, and you will look the other way because American interests were being upheld is a fair question,” Omar said. “Because the American people want to know that any time we engage a country that we think about what our actions could be and how we believe our values are being furthered. That is my question: Will you make sure that human rights are not violated and that we uphold international and human rights?”
“I suppose there is a question in there, and the answer is that the entire thrust of American policy in Venezuela is to support the Venezuelan people’s effort to restore democracy to their country,” Abrams responded. “That’s our policy.”
“I don’t think anybody disputes that,” Omar said. “The question I had for you is that does the interests of the United States include protecting human rights and include protecting people against genocide?”
“That is always the position of the United States,” Abrams lied.
“Thank you,” concluded Omar. “I yield back the rest of my time.”
There is no legitimate reason for Elliott Abrams to ever find himself before a group of people who are ostensibly concerned with accountability and responsibility without being asked such questions. But that didn’t stop all the world’s worst people from crawling out of the woodwork to his defense.

The guy has been championing freedom and human rights his entire life (and taking unholy sh** for it from the illiberal Left and Right).”
Conservative pundit Michael Knowles tossed his two cents into the campaign to purge the concept of antisemitism of any meaning by tweeting, “One wonders why @IlhanMN seems to harbor such particular contempt for Elliott¹ Abrams² (¹ from the Hebrew ‘Elijah,’ meaning ‘My God is Yahweh’ ² the father of the Jewish people).”
This is the bipartisan establishment orthodoxy that is guiding your foreign policy, America. One which claims Elliott Abrams is a saint, which claims criticism of US warmongering is antisemitic, and which throws a bold Somali-American woman under the bus for speaking the truth after years of paying lip service to the need to get more women of color elected to the leadership of the Democratic Party. This whole Abrams incident happened, by the way, at the same time Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deleted a tweet in which he accidentally acknowledged the agenda to start a war with Iran, but you probably won’t see Omar commenting on this because she knows she’ll be smeared as an antisemite for it.
US warmongering is the most aggressively protected part of the establishment narrative matrix, because US warmongering is the glue that holds the unipolar empire together. Without it, our rulers cannot rule, so you’ll see imperial lackeys fiercely attacking anyone who draws attention to America’s bloodbaths around the world, even if they are good servants of the empire in other areas.
The difficulty for our rulers, though, is that warmongering is a very difficult thing to paint a pretty picture of, especially with our newfound ability to quickly share ideas and information around the globe. I mean, look at Elliott Abrams. Seriously, just watch him talk. That demonic grimace is the prettiest face they could find to put on their Venezuela agenda. I find that very encouraging.
The reason they work so hard to manufacture our consent for warmongering agendas is because they need that consent. They wouldn’t propagandize us so aggressively if they didn’t need us all trusting them and believing their stories, so the best way to fight establishment warmongering is to circulate disbelief in their stories. Whenever you see someone like Ilhan Omar drawing attention to the gaping plot holes in agendas like regime change interventionism in Venezuela, go ahead and help draw attention to it.
Things are only shitty because a few extremely powerful people do very shitty things. The only reason powerful people get away with doing very shitty things is because the majority allows them to. The majority only allows them to because they’ve been propagandized to. The weakest link in this chain is the propaganda. Attack there.

Trump heeft zich door de zwaar corrupte oorlogsmisdadiger Netanyahu in laten fluisteren (op een niveau van 80 decibel) dat Iran de boel in het Midden-Oosten destabiliseert en dat niet de VS maar Iran verantwoordelijk is voor de illegale oorlogen van de VS tegen Afghanistan, Irak en Syrië….. Trump durft het nog niet aan, maar ‘de bewering van Netanyahu’ dat Iran ook verantwoordelijk is voor 9/11, klonk als muziek in z’n oren, zeker weet Trump ‘t niet meer, echter niet valt uit te sluiten dat Trump e.e.a. heeft gedroomd……
Moet eerlijk toegeven dat het me meevalt dat de westerse partners van de VS nog steeds achter de nucleaire deal met Iran (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, ofwel: JCPOA) blijven staan, terwijl de VS zich daaruit terugtrok. Hoe vreemd dan dat deze partners zich wel achter de VS scharen als het om Venezuela gaat…… Neem bijvoorbeeld de genocide in Jemen, waar dagelijks grote aantallen slachtoffers vallen, daaronder bevinden zich veel kinderen: het westen blijft achter de drogredenen staan die de VS aanvoert voor haar deelname aan die genocide, terwijl elke imbeciel kan zien dat de Saoedische terreurcoalitie verantwoordelijk is voor deze genocide…… De VS blijft zich achter die terreurcoalitie stellen en helpt zelfs militair mee aan de genocide, waar de VS o.a. de bombardementen op Jemenitische burgerdoelen regisseert middels haar AWACS vliegtuigen…….
Zie het verschil met Venezuela, daar wordt allesbehalve een genocide uitgevoerd, maar in het westen maakt men zich wel hysterisch druk over de toestand in Venezuela…… Terwijl er in Venezuela niet dagelijks grote aantallen doden zijn te bergen en wordt er daar niet systematisch gemarteld in de gevangenissen, zoals de Saoedische terreurcoalitie dit wel doet in Jemen……
Iedereen die het nieuws over Venezuela de laatste jaren heeft gevolgd, niet in de reguliere media maar op de sociale media, waar nog wel artikelen van echt onafhankelijke journalisten zijn te vinden, kan weten dat de VS al onder Obama een economische oorlog voerde tegen dat land….. Maar nee, niet de westerse politiek en reguliere media, nee men huilt mee in het koor van de VS wolven en stelt dat Maduro op moet stappen en dat hij verantwoordelijk is voor de desastreuze economische toestand in Venezuela…….
Hoe is het in godsnaam mogelijk dat het westen (buiten de VS) zich niet druk maakt over de genocide in Jemen, sterker nog: men noemt dit nog steeds geen genocide, terwijl alle tekenen daarvoor ruim voorhanden zijn…… Nee, de coup tegen Maduro is duizend keer meer belangrijker (zoals eerder de moord op Khashoggi) en dat is bepaald niet in de laatste plaats aan dezelfde hersenkronkels van superpsychopaat Trump te danken, die men in het westen dan (gelukkig) niet volgt in zijn strijd tegen Iran…….

(MEE) — US President Donald Trump has called US intelligence chiefs “extremely passive and naive” regarding Iran, a day after they contradicted his views during congressional testimony.
During a hearing on global threats on Tuesday, the leaders of several US intelligence agencies told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran is not taking steps towards making a nuclear bomb, a conclusion that contrasts starkly with Trump’s assessment.
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, as well as the directors of the CIA, FBI, National Security Agency and other intelligence agencies, spoke before the committee.
On Wednesday, Trump responded on Twitter, saying “the Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!”
“Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!” he added.
Former CIA Director John Brennan retweeted the president’s remarks, calling Trump’s refusal to accept the intelligence assessments a sign of “intellectual bankruptcy”.
Your refusal to accept the unanimous assessment of U.S. Intelligence on Iran, No. Korea, ISIS, Russia, & so much more shows the extent of your intellectual bankruptcy. All Americans, especially members of Congress, need to understand the danger you pose to our national security.
In his arguments posted to Twitter, Trump accused Tehran of actively seeking nuclear weapons, reiterating the justification he gave for withdrawing last year from a multilateral treaty on Iran.
Under the 2015 deal, Iran agreed to restrict its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
The US intelligence officials told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons in violation of the agreement.
The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong! When I became President Iran was making trouble all over the Middle East, and beyond. Since ending the terrible Iran Nuclear Deal, they are MUCH different, but….
During Tuesday’s hearing, the country’s top spies also took issue with Trump’s assertion that the Islamic State (IS) group has been defeated.
Trump defended his decision to withdraw about 2,000 US troops from Syria on grounds that IS no longer poses a threat, saying “we’ve beaten them”.
“Caliphate will soon be destroyed, unthinkable two years ago,” Trump said on Twitter at the time.
Trump has given the Pentagon about four months to withdraw US troops from Syria, backtracking from his abrupt December order for a pullout within 30 days.
The US intelligence chiefs said IS would continue to pursue attacks from Syria and Iraq against regional and Western adversaries, including the US.
“The President has a dangerous habit of undermining the intelligence community to fit his alternate reality,” Senator Mark Warner, the Senate Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, wrote on Twitter. “People risk their lives for the intelligence he just tosses aside on Twitter.”
Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher, who served as a Marine Corps intelligence officer while deployed in Iraq, also defended the intelligence agencies, saying: “They are doing a very difficult job and they are actually trying to advance the president’s priorities”.
The CIA and the director of national intelligence office did not comment on Trump’s remarks.

Alsof de Palestijnen (mensen!) niet helemaal doodziek zijn van de Israëlische blokkade van hun grondgebied, waar velen niet eens toestemming krijgen om daar te vertrekken, ofwel de Gazastrook is veranderd in een getto zoals dat van Warschau in WOII, anders gezegd: de Gazastrook is één grote openluchtgevangenis…….
De Palestijnen zijn het beu dat hun huizen in puin liggen, doodziek van de enorme werkloosheid, doodziek van de tekorten aan water, elektriciteit, medicijnen en de uitzichtloze situatie in haar geheel, waar de massamoorden op de Palestijnen wel de grootste frustratie veroorzaken. massamoorden die Israël pleegt zo vaak het haar maar uitkomt…… Alsof je door de hiervoor genoemde zaken (en dat zijn er nog maar een paar) niet voldoende motivatie opbouwt om hoe dan ook te protesteren tegen de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël………

Was nogal verbaasd over het hieronder door Tyler Durden geschreven artikel op Zero Hedge over deze zaak, waarin hij het aantal slachtoffers aan de Palestijnse kant van de grens met Israël houdt op dozijnen, terwijl er intussen 205 ongewapende Palestijnen, waaronder 38 kinderen, zijn vermoord door laffe Israëlische psychopaten….. Voorts zijn er meer dan 21.000 mensen gewond geraakt, waaronder 4.250 kinderen, dit door hetzelfde psychopathische optreden van het Israëlische geteisem….. De cijfers komen van de VN en zijn van 15 oktober jl.*, gegarandeerd dat deze cijfers intussen verder zijn gestegen……. Ook het ongewapend zijn van de Great Return March demonstranten wordt niet door Durden gemeld, terwijl hij Lieberman citeert die zegt dat Hamas deze mensen min of meer dwingt te gaan demonstreren aan de grens met Israël……. Moet zeggen dat dit me zwaar tegenvalt voor een journalist die normaal gesproken goed geïnformeerd is……. Is hij bang dat Zero Hedge ook zal worden verwijderd van Facebook en Twitter??
“No Choice but War”: Israel Amasses Dozens of Tanks on Gaza Border
(ZHE) — We reported over the weekend that Israel has mustered its largest build-up of tanks and armored personnel carriers since 2014 at a deployment area along the border with Gaza and that “all-out war” looks inevitable after weeks of heightened tensions with Hamas. This after special UN envoy for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov late last week warned the UN Security Council that “we remain on the brink of another potentially devastating conflict.”
It now appears Israel is ready to act, as on Monday Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Israeli parliament that he’s been left with “no choice” but to launch military action against Hamas militants. Last week rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip, with one landing dangerously near the densely populated city of Tel Aviv, and unrest along the border fence has continued largely unabated for months.
During his bellicose speech before lawmakers, Lieberman threatened invasion of Gaza:“Wars are only conducted when there is no choice, and now there is no choice,” the defense minister said. He indicated that anything less than the “toughest response” to Hamas is not being considered as Tel Aviv has “exhausted the other options.”
He said of protests which Israeli forces have somewhat routinely fired upon as Palestinians approach the fence and a security “no-go” zone: “There is no popular uprising,” and added, “There is violence organized by Hamas. Fifteen thousand people don’t come by foot to the border at their own will. They come by bus and are paid.”
Lieberman’s accusation that Hamas pays large sums to protesters comes as international human rights groups have frequently decried Israel’s lose of live ammo to stop protesters from approaching the fence, which have over the past six months resulted in dozens of Palestinian casualties.
The defense minister said further that Hamas “controls the levels of the flames,” but Israel can take deterrent and defensive measures, according to the Jerusalem Post. “I don’t believe in reaching an arrangement with Hamas,” he argued. “It hasn’t worked, doesn’t work and won’t work in the future.”
Last week tensions escalated further afterIsrael retaliated against Hamas rocket attacks on Wednesday by unleashing limited airstrikes on Gaza, which reportedly killed at least one Palestinian while injuring several more. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet on the same day of the Gaza rocket launches and promised to take “very strong action” if such attacks continued.
It does indeed look like broader military action is coming as a Reuters photographer had by the close of last week documented some 60 Israeli tanks and armored personnel carriers stationed along the Gaza-Israel border – with that number likely growing since – which Reuters noted is the largest reported mustering of forces since the 2014 war between Israel and Hamas.

Ten tweede is de politiek in Israël zo corrupt als de pest, waar de premier wel de kroon spant als het over corruptie gaat, zelfs zijn vrouw is intussen aangeklaagd voor fraude…….
Ten derde: als er één land is waar de mensenrechten op enorm schaal worden geschonden is het Israël wel, oh nee wacht, de grote vriend van Israël en de VS, Saoedi-Arabië overtreft het nog net…. Dat land werd overigens niet eens genoemd door Pompeo, die met zijn lulpraatje Iran afschilderde als alles wat tegenovergesteld is aan Israël, terwijl S-A ver boven Iran uittorend wat betreft dictatuur (dat is Iran niet eens), mensenrechtenschendingen en een land is dat niet alleen in eigen land minderheden als sjiieten bestrijdt, maar zelfs een genocide uitvoert tegen de sjiieten in buurland Jemen…… Pompeo zwetste nog wat over de vrije pers in Israël, terwijl de reguliere media, ook in Israël, in de zakken zit van het grootkapitaal…….
Kortom Pompeo zwetste voor de zoveelste keer uit zijn nek, wat een domme leugenaar en hufter!! De hoogste tijd dat deze schoft terecht staat voor het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC)!!
Mike Pompeo: The US Wants the Entire Middle East to Look Like Israel
(MEMO) — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday that “Israel is everything we want the entire Middle East to look like going forward” and that US-Israel relations are “stronger than ever”.
Speaking at an award ceremony held by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America in Washington DC, Pompeo hailed Israel as “democratic and prosperous”, adding “it desires peace, it is a home to a free press and a thriving economy,” Arutz Sheva reported.
Pompeo then compared Israel to Iran, citing the latter’s “corrupt leaders [who] assault the human rights of their own people and finance terrorism in every corner of the Middle East”. Pompeo lamented that the US administration under former President Barack Obama “had more respect for the leaders of Iran than it did for the State of Israel,” stressing that
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States is standing where it should firmly be: On the side of Israel.”
Pompeo also discussed the long-awaited US peace initiative – dubbed the “deal of the century” – hailing it as a “truly historic” effort to reach an agreement. Pompeo said that “we [the USA] are very hopeful that one day the Palestinian people will have the same kinds of things, the same material, the same opportunities that the people of Israel have,” according to the Jerusalem Post. Pompeo added “We very much want you [the Palestinians] to have a space.”
Yet the Secretary of State also admitted that despite this “hope” for a Palestinian “space”, he had that same day denied a $165 million transfer of aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) citing the PA’s “funding of terror”. Pompeo was referring to the PA’s refusal to adhere to US demands to cease so-called “martyr payments” to the families of those killed by Israeli occupation forces or those incarcerated in Israeli prisons. Other countries have also put pressure on the PA, with Israel enacting a law to withhold $130 million per month of tax revenue collected on behalf of the PA unless it ceases these stipends and Australia cutting its aid to the PA.
Though US-Israel ties have historically been strong, under President Donald Trump’s administration these ties have reached new heights. Last week the largest ever US aid package to Israel – worth $38 billion over 10 years – entered into force. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the US and Israel in 2016 under the Obama Administration, but State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert hailed the deal as reflecting “the enduring and unshakable commitment of the President [Trump], this Administration, and the American people to Israel’s security”.
Trump has also spearheaded the so-called “deal of the century”, a peace initiative he hopes will solve the decades-long situation in Israel-Palestine. Last month the president expressed support for the two-state solution for the first time since entering office. He explained: “I like two-state solution. Yeah. That’s what I think… that’s what I think works best. I don’t even have to speak to anybody, that’s my feeling… I think two-state solution works best.” Despite such attempts to appear even-handed, the US has been criticised as a dishonest broker in any peace negotiations, with many believing the “deal of the century” will be biased towards Israel and put Israel’s “security” before any measures beneficial to the Palestinians.
