If
America Stopped Destroying The World, The Bad Guys Might Win

Secretary
of State Mike Pompeo
told
reporters on Saturday
 that
the government under Venezuela’s recently re-inaugurated president
Nicolas Maduro is “illegitimate”, and that “the United
States will work diligently to restore a real democracy to that
country.”

Pompeo’s
remarks, which
were
echoed
 by
Trump’s National Security Advisor John Bolton, are interesting for a
couple of reasons. The first is because Venezuela’s presidential
election in May of last year (which incidentally was
found
to have been perfectly legitimate
 by
the international Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America)
was
actively
and aggressively meddled in
 by
the US and its allies. The second is that while the US government is
openly broadcasting its intention to continue interfering in
Venezuela’s political system, it continues to scream bloody murder
about alleged Russian interference in its own democratic process two
years ago.

What
is the difference between the behavior of the United States, which
remains far and away
the
single worst offender in foreign election meddling
 on
the planet, and what Russia is accused of having done in 2016?
According to
a
comment made
 by
former CIA Director James Woolsey last year, it’s that the US
interferes in foreign democracies “for a very good cause.”

And
that’s really the only argument that empire loyalists have going for
them on this subject. The US is different because the US has moral
authority. It’s okay for the US to continue to interfere in the
political affairs of foreign nations while it would be an
unforgivable and outrageous “
act
of war
”
for a nation like Russia to do the exact same thing, because the US
is countering the interests of the Bad Guys while Russia is
countering the interests of the Good Guys. Who decided who the Good
Guys and Bad Guys are in this argument? The US.

This
“What we do is good because we’re the Good Guys”
faith-based doctrine was regurgitated with full-throated zealotry
in
a
recent speech given
 by
Pompeo in Cairo, in which he cited “America’s innate goodness”
in making the
absolutely
ridiculous
 claim
that “America is a force for good in the Middle East” which
has been “absent too much” from the region previously.
America’s nonstop deadly interventionism in the Middle East is
“good”, because America is “innately good”.

America’s
constant military interventionism, election interference and other
nastiness are painted as Good Things done by Good Guys to fight the
Bad Guys. The argument, when you boil it right down, is that if
America wasn’t constantly starting wars, invading sovereign nations,
staging coups, sponsoring proxy conflicts, arming terrorists, bombing
civilians, torturing people, implementing starvation sanctions on
impoverished populations, pointing nuclear weapons everywhere, spying
on us all with a globe-spanning Orwellian surveillance network,
interfering in foreign elections, and patrolling the skies with
flying death robots, the Bad Guys might win.

Sort
of makes you wonder who the Bad Guys really are, huh?

The
theme of Good Guys fighting Bad Guys resonates with a population that
has been raised for generations on Hollywood films featuring a
handsome action hero emerging victorious after a ninety-minute
struggle and karate kicking an ugly villain off a cliff before
kissing the pretty girl, but it doesn’t accurately reflect the
reality we actually live in. Our world is dominated by extremely
powerful people who are motivated not out of interest in good or evil
but a drive toward power and profit which is completely disinterested
in morality of any kind, and the empires they build for themselves
have their foundations on the backs of ordinary people who are just
trying to get by. The majority of those extremely powerful people
either live in the United States or have formed alliances with US
power structures, and all their agendas in Asia, South America, the
Middle East and elsewhere have nothing to do with “protecting
democracy” or being a “force of good”, and everything
to do with amassing more power.

Even
among those who recognize that the US-centralized empire isn’t a
shining beacon of virtue in our world, the notion remains prevalent
that if American power ceases to be a unipolar dominator then someone
worse will take over the world. This fear-based mindset ultimately
underlies all establishment manipulation and all educated support for
it: the idea that someone needs to rule and dominate the world to
prevent someone else from doing the same. But what are the fruits of
this mindset? A corporatist Orwellian dystopia hurtling toward
climate collapse if nuclear war doesn’t kill us all first.

We
can’t keep doing this. We literally can’t; we’ll evolve beyond this
fear-based dominator paradigm or we’ll all perish beneath its feet
very soon. We are now in a position where our irrational fear of
being invaded by China has pushed us to the brink of extinction, so
it isn’t even a gamble to step off that train and try something else
instead.

It
is entirely possible that the US is capable of functioning like a
normal nation and simply defending its own shores and sustaining
itself without interfering in world affairs. It is entirely possible
that the threat everyone imagines of some foreign power stepping in
as the unipolar dominator should America vacate that role is the
product of fearful imaginings with no bearing on reality and a
fundamental misunderstanding of humanity. It is entirely possible
that we are capable of creating a world where nobody dominates
anybody, and no iron-fisted world leader of any kind is needed.
Either way, the train we’re on is headed for a brick wall, so we’ve
now got nothing to lose by stepping off.

“We’re
going to actually physically remove the baby”.

berichten op o.a.
blijkbaar veelvuldig voorkomt in Canada……

“We’re
going to actually physically remove the baby” – these words,
unthinkable to any mother, were streamed on Facebook Live and have
since prompted angry accusations of state discrimination against
indigenous people in Canada.

The
edict was delivered by a cop as he was taking a newborn girl away
from an indigenous woman at a hospital in the Canadian province of
Manitoba this week. The mother was accused of alcohol consumption
during pregnancy and of being drunk when arriving to give birth –
claims that she and her relatives vigorously deny.

In
the footage, which instantly went viral, the infant’s mother is
seen hugging her baby when social services and police officers
arrive. They tell the woman that
“Child
and Family Services (CFS) have the power to apprehend a child”
 and
that the newborn will be placed into care.

The
mother’s plea to spend at least a few more minutes with her baby is
rejected with a harsh and simple
“No.”

The
woman also isn’t told when she’ll be able to see her child again.
The girl is then placed in a baby car seat and taken away. Neither
the mother nor her relatives try to resist the authorities, but cry
and weep in sorrow.

Even
more shocking than the video itself is the fact that apprehensions of
newborns such as this occur, on average, about once every day in
Manitoba, official records
show.
More than 10,000 children are currently in CFS care in the province
and around 90 percent have an indigenous parent or parents.

Replying to @kimpweaver

So then, there is this video on Facebook of CFS and the cops taking a new born into custody. Obviously an Indigenous woman and her child. New born. Article 2 of the UN Declaration on Genocide come to mind since this is commonplace in canada https://www.facebook.com/100011251092673/videos/724360181282345/ …

The
Facebook video has attracted public attention to the sad statistics,
with the mother and her family vowing to fight to bring the child
back. During a press-conference on Friday, the woman, whose name
can’t be revealed under Manitoba law, said she thought that her
little girl would be given to one of her relatives and
was
“blindsided” when
told that, in fact, the child services were taking her.

“It’s
just astonishing how far this had to go,”
 she
said, but added that she was
“very
hopeful things are going to work out in a positive way.”

Heartbreaking.

An Indigenous child ripped from her Mother’s arms by the State (again).

This is not just part of Canada’s history – it is today’s lived reality.

We are failing in on every front imaginable. http://ow.ly/1B5c30nhQtl

The
CEO of General Child and Family Services Authority (GA), Debbie Besant,
said that she was
“confident” the
decision to separate the mother and her baby was right. However, she
insisted that apprehending a child is a measure used
“only
as a last resort.”

Grand
Chief Garrison Settee, who represents northern Manitoba First
Nations, was by the mother’s side and the leader blasted the
Canadian child service, saying that
“the
system that we’re subject to isn’t a system for our people.”

“As
Indigenous people, we have our own ways, we have our own laws that
have sustained us since time immemorial,”
 he
said. “
Those
ways have been taken from us. The authority has been taken from us to
govern ourselves and to govern our people with our own laws, with our
own child welfare systems.”

Lawyer
Cora Morgan suggested that the woman was deprived of her child only
because she was already in the database after seeking help for
addiction and had her other child temporarily in care a few years
ago. She became a victim of the so-called
“birth
alert”
 when
social workers are notified that the expectant mother is ‘high-risk’,
she said.

“In
the system – as a mother, as a father, as a grandparent – they’re
always deemed guilty of something, and there’s no mechanism to ever
prove you’re innocent,”
 Morgan
explained, adding claims of her client being intoxicated when
arriving to hospital were false. She criticized the authorities for
ignoring a notarized custody agreement that would have the baby’s
aunt take care of her niece. Morgan added that officials that took
the baby carried it outside in freezing temperatures without proper
clothing.

“They
say the family is incapable of taking care of the baby and they take
her away,”
 she
said.
 “This
is how they treat a new life.”

This story is constant in Canada & the only main constant crime for CFS is parenting while Indigenous and being a child while Indigenous. The statistics across Canada bear this out.

These facts, while reported on regularly, remain a mystery to the avg. Cdn citizen. Pls ask why.

Black Agenda Report
Universal Basic Income Is Easier Than It Looks
Ellen Brown 09 Jan 2019

A universal income program can help correct the debt bubble problem without fear of “overheating” the economy.
“It could actually be funded year after year without driving up taxes or prices.”
Calls for a Universal Basic Income (UBI) have been increasing, most recently as part of the “Green New Deal” introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and supported in the last month by at least 40 members of Congress. A UBI is a monthly payment to all adults with no strings attached, similar to Social Security. Critics saythe Green New Deal asks too much of the rich and upper-middle-class taxpayers who will have to pay for it, but taxing the rich is not what the resolution proposes . It says funding would primarily come from the federal government, “using a combination of the Federal Reserve, a new public bank or system of regional and specialized public banks,” among other vehicles.
The Federal Reserve alone could do the job. It could buy “Green” federal bonds with money created on its balance sheet, just as the Fed funded the purchase of $3.7 trillion in bonds in its “quantitative easing” program to save the banks. The Treasury could also do it. The Treasury has the constitutional power to issue coins in any denomination, even trillion dollar coins . What prevents legislators from pursuing those options is the fear of hyperinflation from excess “demand” (spendable income) driving prices up. But in fact the consumer economy is chronically short of spendable income, due to the way money enters the consumer economy. We actually needregular injections of money to avoid a “balance sheet recession” and allow for growth, and a UBI is one way to do it.
“Funding would primarily come from the federal government, “using a combination of the Federal Reserve, a new public bank or system of regional and specialized public banks,”
The pros and cons of a UBI are hotly debated and have been discussed elsewhere . The point here is to show that it could actually be funded year after year without driving up taxes or prices.New money is continually being added to the money supply, but it is added as debt created privately by banks. (How banks, rather than the government, create most of the money supply today is explained on the Bank of England website here .) A UBI would replace money-created-as-debt with debt-free money—a “debt jubilee” for consumers—while leaving the money supply for the most part unchanged; and to the extent that new money was added, it could help create the demand needed to fill the gap between actual and potential productivity.
The Debt Overhang Crippling Economies
The “bank money” composing most of the money in circulation is created only when someone borrows, and today businesses and consumers are burdened with debts that are higher than ever before. In 2018, credit card debt alone exceeded $1 trillion, student debt exceeded $1.5 trillion, auto loan debt exceeded $1.1 trillion, and non-financial corporate debt hit $5.7 trillion. When businesses and individuals pay down old loans rather than taking out new loans, the money supply shrinks, causing a “balance sheet recession.” In that situation, the central bank, rather than removing money from the economy (as the Fed is doing now), needs to add money to fill the gap between debt and the spendable income available to repay it.
Debt always grows faster than the money available to repay it. One problem is the interest , which is not created along with the principal, so more money is always owed back than was created in the original loan. Beyond that, some of the money created as debt is held off the consumer market by “savers” and investors who place it elsewhere, making it unavailable to companies selling their wares and the wage-earners they employ. The result is a debt bubble that continues to grow until it is not sustainable and the system collapses, in the familiar death spiral euphemistically called the “business cycle.” As economist Michael Hudson shows in his 2018 book, “… and Forgive Them Their Debts ,” this inevitable debt overhang was corrected historically with periodic “debt jubilees”—debt forgiveness—something he argues we need to do again today.
For governments, a debt jubilee could be effected by allowing the central bank to buy government securities and hold them on its books. For individuals, one way to do it fairly across the board would be with a UBI.
Why a UBI Need Not Be Inflationary
In a 2018 book called “The Road to Debt Bondage: How Banks Create Unpayable Debt ,” political economist Derryl Hermanutz proposes a central-bank-issued UBI of $1,000 per month, credited directly to people’s bank accounts. Assuming this payment went to all U.S. residents over 18, or about 250 million people, the outlay would be about $2.5 trillion annually. For people with overdue debt, Hermanutz proposes that it automatically go to pay down those debts. Since money is created as loans and extinguished when they are repaid, that portion of a UBI disbursement would be extinguished along with the debt.
People who were current on their debts could choose whether or not to pay them down, but many would also no doubt go for that option. Hermanutz estimates that roughly half of a UBI payout could be extinguished in this way through mandatory and voluntary loan repayments. That money would not increase the money supply or demand. It would just allow debtors to spend on necessities with debt-free money rather than hocking their futures with unrepayable debt.
He estimates that another third of a UBI disbursement would go to “savers” who did not need the money for expenditures. This money, too, would not be likely to drive up consumer prices, since it would go into investment and savings vehicles rather than circulating in the consumer economy. That leaves only about one-sixth of payouts, or $400 billion, that would actually be competing for goods and services; and that sum could easily be absorbed by the “output gap” between actual and forecasted productivity.
“$2 trillion could be injected into the economy every year without creating price inflation.”
According to a July 2017 paper from the Roosevelt Institute called “What Recovery? The Case for Continued Expansionary Policy at the Fed ”: “GDP remains well below both the long-run trend and the level predicted by forecasters a decade ago. In 2016, real per capita GDP was 10% below the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) 2006 forecast, and shows no signs of returning to the predicted level.”
The report showed that the most likely explanation for this lackluster growth was inadequate demand. Wages have remained stagnant; and before producers will produce, they need customers knocking on their doors.
In 2017, the U.S. Gross Domestic Product was $19.4 trillion. If the economy is running at 10 percent below full capacity, $2 trillion could be injected into the economy every year without creating price inflation. It would just generate the demand needed to stimulate an additional $2 trillion in GDP. In fact a UBI might pay for itself, just as the G.I. Bill produced a sevenfold return from increased productivity after World War II.
The Evidence of China
That new money can be injected year after year without triggering price inflation is evident from a look at China. In the last 20 years, its M2 money supply has grown from just over 10 trillion yuan to 80 trillion yuan ($11.6T), a nearly 800 percent increase. Yet the inflation rate of its Consumer Price Index (CPI) remains a modest 2.2 percent.
Why has all that excess money not driven prices up? The answer is that China’s Gross Domestic Product has grown at the same fast clip as its money supply. When supply (GDP) and demand (money) increase together, prices remain stable.
Whether or not the Chinese government would approve of a UBI, it does recognize that to stimulate productivity, the money must get out there first; and since the government owns 80 percent of China’s banks, it is in a position to borrow money into existence as needed. For “self-funding” loans—those that generate income (fees for rail travel and electricity, rents for real estate)—repayment extinguishes the debt along with the money it created, leaving the net money supply unchanged. When loans are not repaid, the money they created is not extinguished; but if it goes to consumers and businesses that then buy goods and services with it, demand will still stimulate the production of supply, so that supply and demand rise together and prices remain stable.
Without demand, producers will not produce and workers will not get hired, leaving them without the funds to generate supply, in a vicious cycle that leads to recession and depression. And that cycle is what our own central bank is triggering now.
The Fed Tightens the Screws
Rather than stimulating the economy with new demand, the Fed has been engaging in “quantitative tightening.” On Dec. 19, 2018, it raised the Fed funds rate for the ninth time in three years, despite a “brutal” stock market in which the Dow Jones Industrial Average had already lost 3,000 points in 2 ½ months. The Fed is still struggling to reach even its modest 2 percent inflation target, and GDP growth is trending down, with estimates at only 2-2.7 percent for 2019. So why did it again raise rates, over the protests of commentators, including the president himself?
For its barometer, the Fed looks at whether the economy has hit “full employment,” which it considers to be 4.7 percent unemployment, taking into account the “natural rate of unemployment” of people between jobs or voluntarily out of work. At full employment, workers are expected to demand more wages, causing prices to rise. But unemployment is now officially at 3.7 percent—beyond technical full employment—and neither wages nor consumer prices have shot up. There is obviously something wrong with the theory, as is evident from a look at Japan , where prices have long refused to rise despite a serious lack of workers.
The official unemployment figures are actually misleading. Including short-term discouraged workers, the rate of U.S. unemployed or underemployed workers as of May 2018 was 7.6 percent, double the widely reported rate . When long-term discouraged workers are included, the real unemployment figure was 21.5 percent . Beyond that large untapped pool of workers, there is the seemingly endless supply of cheap labor from abroad and the expanding labor potential of robots, computers and machines. In fact, the economy’s ability to generate supply in response to demand is far from reaching full capacity today.
“When long-term discouraged workers are included, the real unemployment figure was 21.5 percent.”
Our central bank is driving us into another recession based on bad economic theory. Adding money to the economy for productive, non-speculative purposes will not drive up prices so long as materials and workers (human or mechanical) are available to create the supply necessary to meet demand; and they are available now. There will always be price increases in particular markets when there are shortages, bottlenecks, monopolies or patents limiting competition, but these increases are not due to an economy awash with money. Housing, health care, education and gas have all gone up, but it is not because people have too much money to spend. In fact it is those necessary expenses that are driving people into unrepayable debt, and it is this massive debt overhang that is preventing economic growth.
Without some form of debt jubilee, the debt bubble will continue to grow until it can again no longer be sustained. A UBI can help correct that problem without fear of “overheating” the economy, so long as the new money is limited to filling the gap between real and potential productivity and goes into generating jobs, building infrastructure and providing for the needs of the people, rather than being diverted into the speculative, parasitic economy that feeds off them.

onmiddellijke sluiting beloofde…….

In

aarde is…….

Hoe

WASHINGTON
–
Guantanamo
Bay inmate Tolfiq al-Bihani has been cleared for release, but 10
years after former President Barack Obama signed an executive order
to shut down the detention facility, he and 39 others remain
imprisoned without the prospect of freedom or a fair trial.

On
Thursday, dozens of activists gathered at a park across from the
White House to demand closing the detention facility, which operates
outside the US legal system.

Protesters
in orange jumpsuits with black bags covering their heads, symbolising
the abuse that Guantanamo prisoners have faced, stood with their
backs to the White House as activists and legal experts denounced the
continued detention of 40 people at the prison.

The
facility, built on US-controlled land in Cuba, was set up to house
suspected dangerous militants from US wars after the 9/11 attacks.

The
demonstration marked 17 years since the detention facility opened and
10 years since Obama signed a decree to close it down “
promptly“.

Jessica
Murphy and Leila Murphy, two sisters whose father was killed in the
9/11 attacks, said instead of ensuring justice for the victims
Guantanamo has “compounded the tragedy of 9/11”.

“We
abhor the government’s disregard for rule of law and its flagrant
human rights abuses in the name of our father and other victims,”
they said, taking turns reading a joint statement.

‘Source
of shame’

British
journalist Andy Worthington said the detention facility has been open
for 6,210 days.

“That’s
6,210 days of shame for every decent American… Every day this
prison is open is a source of shame for all decent people,” he
told the crowd.

“This
isn’t an ordinary prison where people have been tried and convicted.
This isn’t a war prison where people are taken off the battlefield
and held, protected by the Geneva Convention until the end of
hostilities.”

What
Guantanamo is, Worthington said, is a place where people can be held
without “any rights whatsoever as human beings”.

“This
prison is unconstitutional, it is illegal and more importantly it is
immoral and inhumane”

-Aya
Saed, Center for Constitutional Rights

He
called the detainees political prisoners who have become political
tools for President Donald Trump.

Indeed,
the US president has repeatedly brought up Guantanamo to project an
image of strength in the face of supposed danger from what he calls
“radical Islamic terrorism”.

Trump
even mentioned the prison in his 2018
State
of the Union
,
an annual speech to the nation in which presidents highlight their
accomplishments and lay out their vision for the forthcoming year.

Furthermore,
under his administration, the process of finding countries to
transfer five inmates cleared for release, including al-Bihani, has
been frozen.

As
a candidate, Trump promised to keep the prison open and load it up
with “
bad
dudes
“.

(MEE/Ali Harb)

Civil
rights advocates have criticised the abuse and lack of due process at
the detention facility, where inmates have few legal resources and
face no charges from which they can defend themselves.

Last
year, Trump revoked Obama’s executive order to shut down the
prison,
proclaiming that
the US can detain “certain persons captured in connection with
an armed conflict for the duration of the conflict”.

Critics
say Trump’s decree opens the door for indefinite detention of
suspected militants, as the “War on Terror” has been going
on for 18 years and has no end in sight.

For
his part, Obama
blamed lack
of political consensus for his failure to follow up on the promise to
down the facility.

“He
wasn’t bold enough,” said Daphne Eviatar, Amnesty International
USA’s director of security with human rights, of the former
president. “He could have done it at the very beginning. He had
the support of Congress.”

In
the process of being “extremely careful”, Eviatar told
Middle East Eye, Obama slowed the process of transferring detainees,
and when Republicans took over Congress in 2011, they refused to
transfer suspects to the US for trial.

‘Immoral
and inhumane’

“This
prison is unconstitutional, it is illegal and more importantly it is
immoral and inhumane,” said Aya Saed, who works at the Center
for Constitutional Rights, which legally represents Guantanamo
detainees.

While
acknowledging the difficulty of progress under the Trump
administration, Saed called for collective action on behalf of the
prisoners.

“What
I do hope is that their perseverance, their resilience, their will to
get up every day to participate in hunger strikes inspires us to
continue dreaming of a different world, imagining of a different
reality,” she said at the protest on Friday.

At
an event organised by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and rights
groups in Washington earlier on Friday, Mohamedou Slahi, a former in
Guantanamo inmate who was held from 2002 until 2016, described the
abuse he endured in the prison.

“In
an attempt to force me to confess to crimes I did not commit, I was
subjected to torture and to cruel and inhumane treatment,” he
told the attendees via video conference from Mauritania, where he was
transferred in 2016, “as if losing my freedom, my livelihood and
being forcibly separated from my loved ones wasn’t cruel enough.”

The
human rights activist and author of Guantanamo Diary, which he
wrote when he was in the prison, added that his release in did not
end his suffering.

“I
am still not free,” he said, explaining that he has been denied
a passport and can’t leave Mauritania.

“I
am a prisoner in my own country,” Slahi said. “I am being
denied my freedom of movement” despite never having been charged
with or committing any acts of terrorism or other crimes.

“GET
OUT”: BLACK FAMILIES HARASSED IN THEIR OWN HOMES

File:We want white tenants.jpg

JANUARY
10, 2019
 FRIENDS
OF GREED 3
HATE
CRIMES
, PROPUBLICA, RACISM

United
States (
ProPublica)
–
 In
Delano, Minnesota,
a
black family’s home was broken
 into
in March 2017 and a warning was spray-painted on the walls: “Get
out.” The vandals left a note, too: “Next time it’s going to be
fire.”

In
Athens, Tennessee, the white mother of young biracial children
alleged that she’d been harassed verbally by a neighbor for a year.

For
close to two years, ProPublica has been compiling reports of hate
crimes and bias incidents as part of
our
Documenting Hate project
.
The database now houses a vast compendium of ugliness in America.
Killings, assaults, threats of terror — they are all there.

One
of the more common entries involves people being harassed or
threatened at their place of residence, often by neighbors, the
people who live next door or down the hall or around the corner. Of
course, this isn’t new. The integration of neighborhoods in the
U.S. has been as fraught as the integration of the country’s
schools.

Jeannine
Bell, a lawyer and author of “Hate Thy Neighbor: Move-In Violence
and the Persistence of Racial Segregation in American Housing,”
said no corner of the country has any claim of immunity from the
problem. She also noted that the total number of such incidents is
not reliably captured in any formal data set, ours or those kept by
federal and local authorities. That’s because, she said, many of
these incidents go unreported.

“A
lot of times, the people that are targeted don’t even know that
this is a crime,” Bell said.

The
Documenting Hate database has close to 6,000 entries — a mix of
news reports, tips, personal stories of bigotry and records collected
by law enforcement and some anti-discrimination groups. Among the
most common things reported are anti-Muslim acts, which accounted for
359 entries, and swastikas showing up in public places, which were
the subject of an additional 400 or so.

More
than 300 entries were reports of harassment or menacing at people’s
homes, targeting people of a variety of races and religions. The most
frequent victims were African Americans. Indeed, African Americans
are the most frequently victimized group nationally for hate crimes,
according to data from the FBI.

That
finding prompted us to send inquiries to the dozen or so police
jurisdictions that had reported the highest number of anti-black hate
crimes to the FBI’s hate-crime database from 2010 to 2016. Since we
couldn’t get incident reports from every one of those
jurisdictions, we also made requests to several police departments
where we’d received data that included anti-black hate crimes.

In
total, we were able to identify 639 incidents of anti-black violence
or harassment from the police reports we received. More than a fifth
of those reports, 138 in all, were incidents involving people being
targeted by neighbors or in their homes.

In
Columbus, Ohio, a man went to police because someone had been ringing
his doorbell or banging on his garage 25 to 30 times a night, almost
every night. When the man went outside, the suspect would call him
racial slurs from the darkness. The man and his family are the only
black residents of their cul-de-sac. No arrests were made and the
case is currently listed as inactive.

In
Toledo, at the north end of the state, a man was allegedly harassing
three black neighbors in his neighborhood, using “unwarranted
racist language,” according to the police report. One day, the
suspect saw a car with black occupants throw trash on the street.
Even though they had no relation to anyone on the block, the suspect
came over and dumped trash on a black family’s lawn, the report
said. “Since you all want to nigger up the neighborhood, I’ll
burn you and your nigger family out,” he allegedly told the victim.
Police went to the suspect’s home, but he didn’t answer the door.
A call to the Toledo police to check on the case was not returned.

In
Kansas City, Missouri, an African-American man went to police because
his neighbor had harassed him for three years. The suspect allegedly
stood in his driveway taking pictures of his home and waved a
Confederate flag. The man who filed the complaint wound up moving,
but he told police he was worried because he’d seen the man outside
his new home.

In
Oxford Township, Michigan, a couple — a white woman and a black man
— went to police because they said they couldn’t leave the house
without getting harassed by their neighbor, who called them racial
slurs. When police gave the neighbor a citation for disorderly
conduct, she ripped it up in front of the officer. She was
subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct and her case was turned
over to the local prosecutor’s office.

And
in Spokane, Washington, we got records on two cases of possible
neo-Nazis harassing their black neighbors. In one case, the neighbors
reported that a man with a swastika on his hand called them racial
slurs. He allegedly threw a brick at a woman, calling her a slur. In
another case, a black man said his white supremacist neighbor and
another man assaulted him in his garage while using racial slurs and
threatened him with a gun. “Nigger, you don’t deserve to be
breathing white men’s air,” they allegedly said. Later, the white
supremacist allegedly returned with two other men and yelled “heil
the KKK” and “white power” at the man, shortly before shooting
a gun at his home from a car. The victim told
The
Spokesman-Review that
one of the suspects had called him racial slurs for months leading up
to the shooting.

According
to the Spokane Police Department, both cases resulted in arrests and
the suspects were charged with first-degree assault and malicious
harassment. In the shooting case, suspect Donald Prichard’s
criminal history record totals to 16 felony convictions,
which
included
beating and sexually assaulting a woman.
 He’s
awaiting trial on Jan. 22. The second suspect in that case, Jason
Cooper, has 12 felony convictions, including unlawful possession of a
weapon and burglary, and he is awaiting trial on Feb. 25.

Many
accounts, both in our database and that resulted from our queries to
police departments, include frustration at what can seem like a lack
of police interest or action. In the case of the family targeted in
Delano, no one was ever arrested, and the family wound up moving
away. The mother in Athens said police told her there was little they
could do about verbal harassment, that it was a civil matter. The
authorities in Athens didn’t return a request for comment.

That
said, we did find examples where the authorities ultimately took
serious steps.

In
Grapevine, Texas, Dante Petty was harassed by his white neighbor,
Glenn Halfin, for over a year after he moved in. The harassment
became so persistent that he installed surveillance cameras outside
his home and a police officer was stationed outside for over a month.
The breaking point occurred when his neighbor left black baby dolls
with nooses around their necks hung outside his apartment.
Ultimately, Halfin was charged with a hate crime and convicted of
violating the family’s housing rights. He was sentenced to year in
state prison, the maximum punishment based on his guilty plea to the
misdemeanor charge.

“No
one should be afraid to go home at night,” said U.S. Attorney Erin
Nealy Cox
on
the day of Halfin’s sentencing.
 Victims
of such harassment at their residences, it turns out, have an option
other than going to the local police. Harassing one’s neighbor also
violates the federal Fair Housing Act, which makes it illegal for
landlords and neighbors to interfere with someone’s right to
housing based on who they are. And there is an office at the
Department of Housing and Urban Development meant to handle such
cases.

Victims
can file a complaint with HUD within a year of the alleged violation.
Owners, managers and condominium associations may be liable for
neighbor-on-neighbor harassment if they fail to intervene when they
have a duty to do so. Criminal penalties can include fines and
prison.

According
to HUD statistics, there were 8,348 complaints of such violations in
2015, 8,350 in 2016 and 8,186 in 2017. Half or more of those cases
dealt with alleged violations involving people with disabilities. The
HUD statistics show that, historically, very few of the complaints of
any kind wound up with federal prosecutions.

The
number of prosecutions has gotten appreciably smaller in recent
years. In 2015, the Department of Justice closed 84 cases brought to
it by HUD regarding the Fair Housing Act. In 2016, there were only
12. In 2017, there were just five.

Calls
for comment from HUD were not returned because of the federal
government shutdown.

Meanwhile,
as the second year of Documenting Hate came to a close, reports kept
coming in.

In
June 2018, Hubert Roberts, of Clio, Michigan, complained to police
that his truck had been targeted by racists. A Nazi symbol was spray
painted on the truck, along with slurs and boasts of white pride. The
Genesee County Sheriff’s Office would not comment on the case,
other than to say no arrests have been made. When asked about the
current status of the case, the FBI told ProPublica, “Adhering to
DOJ policy, the FBI neither confirms nor denies investigations.”

Roberts
said that this wasn’t the first time he was targeted in the
community because of his race, either. He noted other instances of
being called racist comments, where he was told to “go back to
Africa,” while doing work on his yard.

“This
could have been an opportunity for some dialogue in this
predominantly white community,” Roberts said. “I just feel really
disappointed with our justice system.”

economische oorlogsvoering tegen Venezuela, waarbij o.a. de VS

The
Terrible Forthcoming Destruction of the “Caribbean Basin”

President
Trump has announced the withdrawal of US combat troops from the «
Greater Middle East », but the Pentagon is still pursuing the
implementation of the Rumsfeld-Cebrowski plan. This time the aim is
to destroy the States of the “Caribbean Basin “. This is
nothing like the overthrow of pro-Soviet regimes, as in the 1970’s,
but the destruction of all regional State structures, without
consideration for friends or political enemies. Thierry Meyssan
observes the preparations for this new series of wars.

By
Thierry Meyssan

January
10, 2019 “Information
Clearing House
” –     In a
series of previous articles, we presented the SouthCom plan to
provoke wars between the Latin-American nations in order to destroy
the structures of all the States in the « Caribbean Basin » [
1].

Preparations
for wars of this magnitude, intended to follow on from the conflicts
in the « Greater Middle East » according to the Rumsfeld-Cebrowski
strategy, requires a decade [
2].

After
the period of economic destabilisation [
3]
and that of military preparation, the actual operation should begin
in the years to come by an attack on Venezuela by Brazil (supported
by Israël), Colombia (an ally of the United States) and Guyana (in
other words, the United Kingdom). It will be followed by others,
beginning with Cuba and Nicaragua (the « troïka of tyranny »
according to John Bolton).

However,
the original plan may be modified, particularly because of the return
of the imperial ambitions of the United Kingdom [
4]
which may influence the Pentagon.

This
is where we are now :

The
evolution of Venezuela

Venezuelan
President Hugo Chávez had developed relations with the « Greater
Middle East » on an ideological basis. He had in particular grown
closer to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syrian President
Bachar el-Assad. Together, they had imagined the possibility of
founding an intergovernmental organisation, the « Free Allies
Movement », on the model of the « Non-Aligned Movement », which
was paralysed by the alignment with the United States, over time, of
certain of its members [
5].

Although
Nicolas Maduro adopted the same language as Hugo Chávez, he chose a
very different foreign policy. It is true that he continued the
rapprochement with Russia and, in his turn welcomed Russian bombers
to Venezuela. He signed a contract to import 600,000 tonnes of wheat
in order to deal with starvation in his country. Above all, he
prepared to receive six billion dollars of investments, including
five in the oil sector. Russian engineers took over the posts which
were intended for Venezuelan workers but which they had abandoned.

Nicolas
Maduro reorganised the alliances of his country on new foundations.
He wove close links with Turkey, which is a member of NATO and whose
army presently occupies Northern Syria. Maduro went to Istanbul on
four occasions and Erdoğan went once to Caracas.

Switzerland
was an ally of Hugo Chávez, and had advised him for the composition
of his Constitution. Fearing that he would be unable to refine his
country’s gold in Switzerland, Nicolas Maduro looked to Turkey,
which transformed the raw material into bullion. In the past, this
gold had remained in Swiss banks as a guarantee for oil contracts.
From now on, the liquid assets were transferred to Turkey, while the
newly treated gold returned to Venezuela. This orientation may be
interpreted as being no longer founded on ideology, but on interest.
Everything depends on who benefits.

Simultaneously,
Venezuela became the target of a destabilisation campaign which began
with the guarimbas demonstrations, continued with
the attempted coup d’etat on 12 February 2015 (« Operation Jericho
»), then by a series of attacks on the national currency, and
organised emigration. In this context, Turkey offered Venezuela the
possibility of avoiding US sanctions. The exchanges between the two
countries multiplied fifteen-fold in 2018.

Whatever
the evolution of the Venezuelan régime, nothing can justify what is
being prepared against its population.

Coordination
of logistical means

From
31 July to 12 August 2017, SouthCom organise a vast exercise with
more than 3,000 men from 25 allied states, including France and the
United Kingdom. The goal was to prepare a swift landing for troops in
Venezuela [
6].

Colombia

Colombia
is a state, but not a nation. Its population lives geographically
separate according to social class, with enormous differences in the
quality of life. Almost no Colombian has ever spent time in a
neighbourhood attributed to another social class than their own. This
strict separation has made possible the multiplication of
paramilitary forces and consequently armed interior conflicts which
have caused more than 220,000 victims in thirty years.

In
power since August 2018, President Iván Duque has challenged the
fragile peace concluded with the FARC by his predecessor, Juan Manuel
Santos – but not with the ELN. He has not dismissed the option of a
military intervention against Venezuela. According to Nicolas Maduro,
the United States are currently training 734 mercenaries in a
training camp situated in Tona with a view to carrying out a false
flag operation intended to spark a war with Venezuela. Taking into
account the sociological particularity of Colombia, it is impossible
to determine with certainty whether or not the training camp is
controlled by Bogota.

Guyana

In
the 19th century, the colonial powers agreed to a frontier between
British Guyana (presently Guyana) and Dutch Guyana (presently
Surinam). but no text has ever defined the frontier between the
British zone and the Spanish zone (presently Venezuela).
Consequently, Guyana administrates 160,000 km2 of forest which is
still a source of dispute with its larger neighbour. By virtue of the
Geneva agreement of 17 February 1966, the two states deferred to the
Secretary General of the UNO (at that time the Burmese U Thant).
Nothing has changed since then – Guyana has proposed to bring the
case before the UNO** Permanent Court of Arbitration, while Venezuela
prefers direct negotiations.

This
territorial dispute does not seem particularly urgent, because the
contested area is an uninhabited forest which was believed to be
without value – however, it is a huge area which represents two
thirds of Guyana. The Geneva agreement has been violated 15 times by
Guyana, which specifically authorised the exploitation of a gold
mine. Above all, the stakes were raised in 2015 with the discovery by
ExxonMobil of oil deposits in the Atlantic Ocean, particularly in the
territorial waters of the contested zone.

The
population of Guyana is composed of 40 % Indians, 30 % Africans, 20 %
mixed race and 10 % American Indians. The Indians are a strong
presence in the civil services and the Africans in the army.

On
21 December, a vote of no confidence was lodged against the
government of President David Granger, a pro-British, anti-Venezuelan
General, in power since 2015. To everyone’s surprise, a deputy,
Charrandas Persaud, voted against his own party, and in an atmosphere
of indescribable chaos, provoked the fall of the government which had
only a one-vote majority. Since then, the country is in a state of
great instability – we do not know whether President Granger, who is
presently undergoing chemotherapy, will be able to handle current
affairs, while Charrandas Persaud left Parliament with an escort, via
a back door, and has fled to Canada.

On
22 December 2018, in the absence of a government, the Ramform
Tethys
(under the flag of the Bahamas) and the Delta
Monarch
 (Trinidad and Tobago) undertook submarine
explorations in the contested zone on behalf of Exxon-Mobil.
Considering that this intrusion violated the Geneva agreement, the
Venezuelan army chased the two ships away. The Guyanese Minister for
Foreign Affairs, working with current affairs, declared it a hostile
act.

The
United Kingdom Minister for Defense, Gavin Williamson, declared to
the
Sunday
Telegraph
 on
30 December 2018 that the Crown was putting an end to decolonisation,
which had been Whitehall’s doctrine since the Suez affair in 1956.
London is preparing to open a new military base in the Caribbean (for
the moment the UK has bases only in Gibraltar, Cyprus, Diego Garcia
and on the Falkland islands). The new base could be situated on
Montserrat (West Indies), or more probably in Guyana, and should be
operational in 2022 [
7].

Guyana
is a neighbour of Surinam (Dutch Guyana). Its President, Desi
Bouterse, is wanted in Europe for drug trafficking – an affair
which pre-dated his election. But his son, Dino, was arrested in
Panama in 2013, despite the fact that he entered that country under a
diplomatic passport. He was extradited to the United States where he
was sentenced to 16 years of prison for drug trafficking – in reality
because he was setting up the Lebanese Hezbollah in Surinam.

baptism of Jair Bolsonaro in the waters of the Jordan (Israël) (opvallend hoe goed het christelijk geloof het meestal kan vinden met fascisten….)

Brazil

In
May 2016, Henrique Meirelles, the Minister of Finance for the
transitional government of Libano-Brazilian Michel Temer, nominated
Israelo-Brazilian Ilan Goldfajn as director of the Central Bank.
Mereilles had also presided the Committee for the preparation of the
Olympic Games, calling on Tsahal to coordinate the Brazilian army and
police, thus guaranteeing the security of the Games. Simultaneously
controlling the Central Bank, the army and the police of Brazil,
Israël had no difficulty in supporting the popular movement of
dissatisfaction in the face of the incompetence of the Workers’
Party.

Believing
– without any solid proof – that Presidente Dilma Rousseff had fudged
the public accounts in the context of the Petrobras scandal, the
parliamentarians impeached her in August 2016.

During
the Presidential election of 2018, candidate Jair Bolsonaro went to
Israël to be baptised in the waters of the Jordan, and consequently
obtained a massive percentage of the evangelical vote. He was elected
with General Hamilton Mourão as his Vice-President. During the
period of transition, Mourão declared that Brazil should prepare to
send men to Venezuela as a « peace force » once President Maduro
had been overthrown – comments which constitute a barely-disguised
threat which President Bolsonaro attempted to downplay.

In
an interview on 3 January 2019, on the TV channel SBT, President
Bolsonaro spoke of negotiations with the Pentagon concerning the
possibility of creating a US military base in Brazil. This
declaration raised powerful opposition within the armed forces, for
whom their country is capable of defending itself without assistance.

Benjamin
Netanyahu during the investiture of President Bolsonaro. Israël has
taken position in Brazil.

During
his investiture on 2 January 2019, the new President welcomed Israëli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This was the first time that an
Israëli personality of this importance had been to Brazil. On this
occasion, President Bolsonaro announced the coming transfer of the
Brazilian embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.

US
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who also went to the investiture,
where he met Peruvian Minister for Foreign Affairs Néstor Popolizio,
announced with President Bolsonaro his intention to fight with him
against the « authoritarian régimes » of Venezuela and Cuba.
Returning to the United States, he stopped over in Bogota to meet
with Colombian President Iván Duque. The two men agreed to work for
the diplomatic isolation of Venezuela. On 4 January 2019, the 14
States of the Lima Group (including Brazil, Colombia and Guyana) met
to agree that Nicolas Maduro’s new mandate, which begins on 10
January, is « illegitimate » [
8].
This communiqué has not been signed by Mexico. Apart from this, six
of the member-States lodged a complaint with the International
Criminal Tribunal*** against President Nicolas Maduro for crimes against
humanity.
It
is perfectly clear today that the process towards war is under way.
Enormous forces are in play, and there is little that can be done to
stop them now. It is in this context that Russia is studying the
possibility of setting up a permanent aero-naval base in Venezuela.
The island of La Orchila – where President Hugo Chávez was held
prisoner during the coup d’etat of April 2002 – would enable the
storing of strategic bombers. This would constitute a much greater
threat to the United States than the Soviet missiles stationed in
Cuba in 1962.

In

How
Britain Stole $45 Trillion From India And Lied About It

How Britain Stole $45 Trillion From India And Lied About It

Jason
Hickelby
09
Jan 2019

British
colonizers turned a scam for defrauding peasants into a parasitical
relationship that made England rich and impoverished a
subcontinent.

“$45
trillion is 17 times more than the total annual gross domestic
product of the United Kingdom
 today.”

There
is a story that is commonly told in Britain that the colonization
of
India —
as horrible as it may have been — was not of any major economic
benefit to Britain itself. If anything, the administration of India
was a cost to Britain. So the fact that the empire was sustained for
so long — the story goes — was a gesture of Britain’s benevolence.

New
research by the renowned economist Utsa Patnaik — just published by
Columbia University Press — deals a crushing blow to this narrative.
Drawing on nearly two centuries of detailed data on tax and trade,
Patnaik calculated that Britain drained a total of nearly $45
trillion from India during the period 1765 to 1938.

It’s
a staggering sum. For perspective, $45 trillion is 17 times more than
the total annual gross domestic product of the
United
Kingdom
today.

How
did this come about?

It
happened through the trade system. Prior to the colonial period,
Britain bought goods like textiles and rice from Indian producers and
paid for them in the normal way — mostly with silver — as they did
with any other country. But something changed in 1765, shortly after
the East India Company took control of the subcontinent and
established a monopoly over Indian trade.

“The
re-export system allowed Britain to finance a flow of imports from
Europe which were essential to Britain’s industrialization.”

Here’s
how it worked. The East India Company began collecting taxes in
India, and then cleverly used a portion of those revenues (about a
third)
 to
fund the purchase of Indian goods for British use. In other words,
instead of paying for Indian goods out of their own pocket, British
traders acquired them for free, “buying” from peasants and
weavers using money that had just been taken from them.

It
was a scam — theft on a grand scale. Yet most Indians were unaware
of what was going on because the agent who collected the taxes was
not the same as the one who showed up to buy their goods. Had it been
the same person, they surely would have smelled a rat.

Some
of the stolen goods were consumed in Britain, and the rest were
re-exported elsewhere. The re-export system allowed Britain to
finance a flow of imports from Europe, including strategic materials
like iron, tar and timber, which were essential to Britain’s
industrialization. Indeed, the Industrial Revolution depended in
large part on this systematic theft from India.

On
top of this, the British were able to sell the stolen goods to other
countries for much more than they “bought” them for in the
first place, pocketing not only 100 percent of the original value of
the goods but also the markup.

After
the British Raj took over in 1847, colonizers added a special new
twist to the tax-and-buy system. As the East India Company’s monopoly
broke down, Indian producers were allowed to export their goods
directly to other countries. But Britain made sure that the payments
for those goods nonetheless ended up in London.

“The
Industrial Revolution depended in large part on this systematic theft
from India.”

How
did this work? Basically, anyone who wanted to buy goods from India
would do so using special Council Bills — a unique paper currency
issued only by the British Crown. And the only way to get those bills
was to buy them from London with gold or silver. So traders would pay
London in gold to get the bills, and then use the bills to pay Indian
producers. When Indians cashed the bills in at the local colonial
office, they were “paid” in rupees out of tax revenues —
money that had just been collected from them. So, once again, they
were not in fact paid at all; they were defrauded.

Meanwhile,
London ended up with all of the gold and silver that should have gone
directly to the Indians in exchange for their exports.

This
corrupt system meant that even while India was running an impressive
trade surplus with the rest of the world — a surplus that lasted for
three decades in the early 20th century — it showed up as a deficit
in the national accounts because the real income from India’s exports
was
 appropriated in
its entirety by Britain.

Some
point to this fictional “deficit” as evidence that India
was a liability to Britain. But exactly the opposite is true. Britain
intercepted enormous quantities of income that rightly belonged to
Indian producers. India was the goose that laid the golden egg.
Meanwhile, the “deficit” meant that India had no option but
to borrow from Britain to finance its imports. So the entire Indian
population was forced into completely unnecessary debt to their
colonial overlords, further cementing British control.

“London
ended up with all of the gold and silver that should have gone
directly to the Indians.”

Britain
used the windfall from this fraudulent system to fuel the engines of
imperial violence — funding the invasion of
China in
the 1840s and the suppression of the Indian Rebellion in 1857. And
this was on top of what the Crown took directly from Indian taxpayers
to pay for its wars. As Patnaik points out, “the cost of all
Britain’s wars of conquest outside Indian borders were charged always
wholly or mainly to Indian revenues.”

And
that’s not all. Britain used this flow of tribute from India to
finance the expansion of capitalism in Europe and regions of European
settlement, like Canada and Australia. So not only the
industrialization of Britain but also the industrialization of much
of the Western world was facilitated by extraction from the colonies.

Patnaik
identifies four distinct economic periods in colonial India from 1765
to 1938, calculates the extraction for each, and then compounds at a
modest rate of interest (about 5 percent, which is lower than the
market rate) from the middle of each period to the present. Adding it
all up, she finds that the total drain amounts to $44.6 trillion.
This figure is conservative, she says, and does not include the debts
that Britain imposed on India during the Raj.

These
are eye-watering sums. But the true costs of this drain cannot be
calculated. If India had been able to invest its own tax revenues and
foreign exchange earnings in development – as
Japan did
– there’s no telling how history might have turned out differently.
India could very well have become an economic powerhouse. Centuries
of poverty and suffering could have been prevented.

“The
cost of all Britain’s wars of conquest outside Indian borders were
charged always wholly or mainly to Indian revenues.”

All
of this is a sobering antidote to the rosy narrative promoted by
certain powerful voices in Britain. The conservative historian Niall
Ferguson has claimed that British rule helped “develop”
India. While he was prime minister, David Cameron asserted that
British rule was a net help to India.

This
narrative has found considerable traction in the popular imagination:
according to a 2014 YouGov poll, 50 percent of people in Britain
believe that colonialism was beneficial to the colonies.

Yet
during the entire 200-year history of British rule in India, there
was almost no increase in per capita income. In fact, during the last
half of the 19th century – the heyday of British intervention —
income in India collapsed by half. The average life expectancy of
Indians dropped by a fifth from 1870 to 1920. Tens of millions died
needlessly of policy-induced famine.

Britain
didn’t develop India. Quite the contrary — as Patnaik’s work makes
clear — India developed Britain.

What
does this require of Britain today? An apology? Absolutely.
Reparations? Perhaps — although there is not enough money in all of
Britain to cover the sums that Patnaik identifies. In the meantime,
we can start by setting the story straight. We need to recognize that
Britain retained control of India not out of benevolence but for the
sake of plunder and that Britain’s industrial rise didn’t emerge sui
generis from the steam engine and strong institutions, as our
schoolbooks would have it, but depended on violent theft from other
lands and other peoples.

7
Year Olds Dying In Third Reich ‘Detention’

“Papi,
are we there—
are we almost there?”
Wide-eyed
incantation
of a child, three feet plus/
60 pounds.
Exodus
leaving the lowland
six days before birthday 7…

“Papi,
are we there—
are we almost there?”
Beaming birthday
celebrant
on the bus munching an un-
crushed pink frosted
cookie
from Papi’s beat up backpack

“Papi,
are we there—
are we almost there?”
Her small, soft hands
celebrating
Heroics of an unshaven face chasing
Dreams; dreams
of pine tree scents
and small gifts—compliments of magic
of
his hands. Dreams of the doll her
Mother promised, before dying
suddenly;
Dreams of asylum from violence, fleeing
extractive
capitalism’s suction tube tentacles…

Papi
also had dreams of “J-Bird,” as he
called her, teaching school
and university
with compassion and skill she instructed
stick
dolls he’d crafted from fallen branches

“Papi,
are we there—
are we almost there?”
springing up and down
on her
invisible trampoline, Papi’s promises
of a Christmas
tree and celebration in
California, in America…racing
through
her amazed and amazing mind.
Papi was proud. His back
burned and
ached. He clenched his teeth, when she
dozed off to
sleep. His stomach growled,
rattling sunken sides. He went
without
eating so her belly would be full. He took
tiny swigs
of water so she’d have enough…

(Football
fans who love players that ‘play

through
pain;’ Basketball fans who love
players that ‘create their own
shots,’ does
chasing dreams thousands of miles
through
government/gang infested swamps—bad back
7 yr. old in
tow—show up in your thicket of
statistics and fantasy?)

“Papi,
are we there—
are we almost there?”
To her the bumpy ride
jarring dreams,
juggling her belly up and down was an
Adventure.
And Papi had prepared her for
it with bedtime stories where
everyone lived
Happily ever after…

Arriving
at a ‘border’ swarming with
uniformed thugs: 3/5
human—igloos
pumping raw sewage through veins
whistling
“Dixie” prying Papi and “J-Bird”
Apart.
Her forehead a
105 degree radiator; body
spasming, eyes rolling ‘round in their
sockets
tummy evicting food Papi fed her—
Terrorist tricks to
breach the border, enter the
U.S.— as were delirious, distorted,
slow motion
Last words…
“Papi, are we there—
are we
almost there?”

Could

“Hmm…” our reservation… can’t
