VS drone-aanval: twee kinderen zonder enige aanleiding vermoord in Jemen…….

US
Drone Strike Kills Two Children in Central Yemen

(ANTIWARContinuing
a string of regular drone strikes against targets in rural Yemen
dating back to last week, US drones today attacked and
killed
a pair of young boys on a road outside the village of Yakla
.
There were no indications any combatants were anywhere near the
targeted spot.

The
US, naturally, did not immediately comment on the killings, while
Yemeni officials insisted the road was known to sometimes be used by
al-Qaeda fighters. Yakla is the village that was largely destroyed in
January in a botched US ground raid.

These
are the first confirmed civilian deaths in US strikes against Yemen
over the past week, though a number of wounded civilians were also
reported, and many of the slain have not been conclusively
identified. Those other slain are all officially labeled “suspects”
by the Yemeni government.

Intense
US drone strikes, and the civilian casualties they inevitably cause,
have led to serious anti-US sentiment in other countries like
Pakistan, and while Yemen has a lot of things on their plate right
now, with Saudi Arabia still invading, the US strikes continue to
fuel resentment among victims’ families, giving al-Qaeda a fertile
crop of people to recruit from.

The
West’s Moral Hypocrisy on Yemen

Exclusive:
The West’s “humanitarian interventionists” howl over bloody
conflicts when an adversary can be blamed but go silent when an ally
is doing the killing, such as Saudi Arabia in Yemen.

By Jonathan Marshall

February
23, 2017 “
Information
Clearing House

–  “Consortium
News
” -Only a few months ago, interventionists
were
demanding
a militant response
 by
Washington to what
George
Soros branded
“a humanitarian
catastrophe of historic proportions” — the killing of “hundreds
of people” by Russian and Syrian government bombing of rebel-held
neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo.

Leon
Wieseltier, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and
former
New
Republic
 editor,
was
denouncing the
Obama administration as “a bystander to the greatest atrocity of
our time,” asserting that its failure to “act against evil in
Aleppo” was like tolerating “the evil in Auschwitz.”

How
strange, then, that so many of the same “humanitarian” voices
have been so quiet of late about the continued killing of many more
innocent people in Yemen, where
tens
of thousands of civilians have died
 and 12
million people face famine
.
More than a thousand children die each week from preventable diseases
related to malnutrition and
systematic
attacks
 on
the country’s food infrastructure by a
Saudi-led
military coalition
,
which aims to impose a regime friendly to Riyadh over the whole
country.

The
U.S. silence has been deafening,”
said Philippe
Bolopion, deputy director for global advocacy at Human Rights Watch,
last summer. “This blatant double standard deeply undermines U.S.
efforts to address human rights violations whether in Syria or
elsewhere in the world.”

Official
acquiescence — or worse — from Washington and other major
capitals is encouraging the relentless killing of Yemen’s civilians
by warplanes from Saudi Arabia and its allies. Last week, their
bombs
struck a funeral gathering
 north
of Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, killing nine women and a child and
injuring several dozen more people.

A
day earlier,
officials
reported a deadly “double-tap” airstrike
,
first targeting women at a funeral in Sanaa, then aimed at medical
responders who rushed in to save the wounded. A United Nations panel
of experts condemned a similar double-tap attack by Saudi coalition
forces in October, which killed or wounded hundreds of civilians, as
a violation of international law.

The
Tragedy of Mokha

On
Feb. 12, an air strike on the Red Sea port city of Mokha killed all
six members of a family headed by the director of a maternal and
childhood center. Coalition ground forces had launched an attack on
Mokha two weeks earlier.

Xinhua
news agency
reported,
“the battles have since intensified and trapped thousands of
civilian residents in the city, as well as hampered the humanitarian
operation to import vital food and fuel supplies . . . The
Geneva-based UN human rights office said that it received extremely
worrying reports suggesting civilians and civilian objects have been
targeted over the past two weeks in the southwestern port city . . .
Reports received by UN also show that more than 200 houses have been
either partially damaged or completely destroyed by air strikes in
the past two weeks.”

The
U.N.’s humanitarian coordinator further
reported that
“scores of civilians” had been killed or wounded by the bombing
and shelling of Mokha, and that residents were stranded without water
or other basic life-supporting services.

That
could be Aleppo, minus only the tear-jerking photos of dead and
wounded children on American television. However, unlike Syria,
Yemen’s rebels don’t have well-financed public relations offices
in Western capitals. They pay no lip service to the United States,
democracy, or international human rights. Their foe Saudi Arabia is a
friend of Washington, not a long-time adversary. In consequence, few
American pundits summon any moral outrage at the Saudi-led coalition,
despite
findings by
a United National Panel of Experts that many of its airstrikes
violate international law and, in some cases, represent “war
crimes.”

Aiding
and Abetting

The
United States hasn’t simply turned a blind eye to such crimes; it
has aided them by selling Saudi Arabia the warplanes it flies and the
munitions it drops on Yemeni civilians. It has also siphoned 54
million pounds of jet fuel from U.S. tanker planes to refuel
coalition aircraft on bombing runs. The pace of U.S. refueling
operations has
reportedly increased
sharply in the last year.

The
Obama administration initially supported the Saudi coalition in order
to buy Riyadh’s reluctant support for the Iran nuclear deal. Over
time, Saudi Arabia joined with anti-Iran hawks to portray Yemen’s
rebels as pawns of Tehran to justify continued support for the war.
Most experts — including U.S. intelligence officials —
insist
to the contrary
 that
the rebels are a genuinely indigenous force that enjoys limited
Iranian support at best.

As
I have
documented previously,
all of the fighting in Yemen has damaged U.S. interests by creating
anarchy conducive to the growth of Al Qaeda extremists. They have
planned or
inspired
major acts of terrorism
 against
the West, including an attempt to blow up a U.S. passenger plane in
2009 and a deadly attack on the Parisian newspaper
Charlie
Hebdo
 in
January 2015. The Saudis tolerate them as Sunni allies against the
rebels, in the name of curbing Iran.

Though
the Obama administration is gone, the Trump administration is flush
with ideologues who
are
eager to take a stand against Tehran
 through
Yemen and look tough on “terrorism.” Within days of taking
office, President Trump approved a commando raid targeting an alleged
Al Qaeda compound in central Yemen that went awry,
killing
an estimated 10 women and children
.
The administration has also diverted a U.S. destroyer to patrol
Yemen’s coast.

Secretary
of State Rex Tillerson, to his credit, has cited “the urgent need
for the unfettered delivery of humanitarian assistance throughout
Yemen,”
according
to a department spokesman
.
But no amount of humanitarian aid will save Yemen’s tormented
people from the bombs made in America and dropped from U.S.-made
warplanes, with little protest from Washington’s so-called
“humanitarian interventionists.”

Media stilte over dood 4 Russische diplomaten………

Media
Silent As 4 Top Russian Diplomats Die

(MPN) While
few might consider being a diplomat a life-threatening or even
dangerous job, that trend may be quickly reversing — that is, at
least for Russian diplomats.

With
recent media attention squarely focused on Donald Trump’s ascension
to the Oval Office and various controversies swirling throughout the
early days of his presidency, a string of sudden, mysterious deaths
of top Russian diplomats have largely evaded media scrutiny and
public attention.

Further,
public interest in these deaths, at least in the United States, has
been minimized, as much of the negative press Trump has received
along the same timeframe has been related to
 his
allegedly close relationship
 with
the Russian government, tying in with
months
of anti-Russian propaganda
 relating
to the Syrian conflict and allegations that Russia had a role in
manipulating the U.S. presidential election.

Since
late December, four top Russian diplomats, including three
ambassadors, have died under circumstances that remain unclear.

This
troublesome trend began on Dec. 20, when Andrey Karlov, Russia’s
ambassador to Turkey,
 was
gunned down
 in
Ankara during a photo exhibition event. The assailant, a 22-year-old
off-duty Turkish police officer, took advantage of the bloody
spectacle to yell, “Don’t forget Aleppo!” — a reference to
Russia’s controversial role in helping the Syrian government
reclaim what was once the country’s largest city from U.S.-backed
Al-Qaida terrorists.

Karlov’s
death came at a critical juncture in Russian-Turkish relations, as
the two nations were in the midst of reconciliation efforts following
an incident in which Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet over
Syria in 2015, damaging diplomatic relations.

Russian
President Vladimir Putin
 called
Karlov’s assassination a clear provocation
 intended
to derail Syrian peace negotiations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip
Erdogan echoed these sentiments,
 adding,
“Both Turkey and Russia have the will not to be deceived by this
false flag attack.”

However,
media attention of the assassination was derailed, as it took
place
 on
the same day
 as
a high-profile terrorist attack in Berlin carried out by
a
Tunisian asylum seeker
 who
had allegedly expressed support for Daesh (an Arabic acronym for the
terrorist group known in the West as ISIS or ISIL).

A
few weeks later, yet another Russian diplomat died suddenly, this
time in Athens, Greece.

Andrey
Malanin, a senior diplomat at Russia’s embassy in the Greek
capital,
 was
found dead
 on
the bathroom floor of his apartment on Jan. 9. After his body was
discovered, Greek police launched an investigation into his death.
Despite an initial statement that Malanin appeared to have died from
natural causes at “first sight,” the investigation has yet to
conclude, leaving the official cause of Malanin’s death still
unestablished.

The
weeks since have seen the deaths of two more Russian ambassadors.

Russia’s
ambassador to India, Alexander Kadakin,
 died
at a hospital in India
 on
Jan. 26 following a “brief,” unspecified illness.
Indian
leaders mourned
 the
death of Kadakin, who was credited with
 having
played a significant role
 in
promoting Indian-Russian relations, culminating in
 major
defense and energy deals
 between
the two nations in October of last year.

Most
recently, on Feb. 20, Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s ambassador to the
United Nations,
 died
suddenly at work
 in
New York. In its official announcement, Russia’s foreign
ministry
offered
no details on the circumstances
 of
Churkin’s death, instead offering condolences to his friends and
relatives. Unnamed U.S. government and law enforcement officials,
however,
 told
Reuters
 that
Churkin had apparently died of a heart attack, though the exact cause
of his death
 remains
unknown
.

Churkin’s
deputy, Pyotr Ilyichev,
said
the late diplomat
 “devoted
his whole life to defending the interests of Russia and was found on
the very front lines and in the most stressful posts.” Indeed,
Churkin drew condemnation from several of his Western colleagues
for
his
strong defense
 of
Russia’s bombing campaign in the Syrian city of Aleppo, yet
remained steadfast in his support of Moscow’s foreign policy.

Russian
news agencies reported that Putin
 was
deeply upset
 by
the news of Churkin’s death.

The
deaths of these four high-level Russian diplomats came at a time of
uncertainty in U.S.-Russian relations. International attention has
focused heavily on
the
controversial phone call
 between
Trump’s national security advisor, retired Gen. Michael Flynn, and
a Russian diplomat at Russia’s U.S. embassy, which ultimately led
to Flynn’s resignation.

As
the controversy surrounding Flynn consequently focused attention on
the relationship between the Trump administration and the Russian
government, this string of deaths came at a time when diplomatic
nuance and expertise would be particularly useful.

Amnesty claimt zonder bewijs 13.000 moorden middels massa executies in ‘gevangenis Assad………’

Amnesty
Claims Mass Executions In Syria, Provides Zero Proof

By
Moon Of Alabama

February
07, 2017 “
Information
Clearing House

– “Moon
Of Alabama
” -A new Amnesty International report claims
that the Syrian government hanged between 5,000 and 13,000 prisoners
in a military prison in Syria. The evidence for that claim is flimsy,
based on hearsay of anonymous people outside of Syria. The numbers
themselves are extrapolations that no scientist or court would ever
accept. It is tabloid reporting and fiction style writing from its
title “Human Slaughterhouse” down to the last paragraph.

But
the Amnesty report is still not propagandish enough for the
anti-Syrian media. Inevitably only the highest number in the range
Amnesty claims is quoted. For some even that is not yet enough. The
Associate Press agency, copied by many outlets, headlines:
Report:
At least 13,000 hanged in Syrian prison since 2011
:

BEIRUT
(AP) — Syrian authorities have killed at least 13,000 people since
the start of the 2011 uprising in mass hangings at a prison north of
Damascus known to detainees as “the slaughterhouse,”
Amnesty International said in a report Tuesday.

How
does “at least 13,000” conforms to an already questionable
report which claims “13,000” as the top number of a very
wide range?

Here
is a link
to the report
.

Before
we look into some details this from the “Executive Summary”:

From
December 2015 to December 2016, Amnesty International researched the
patterns, sequence and scale of violations carried out at Saydnaya
Military Prison (Saydnaya). In the course of this investigation, the
organization interviewed 31 men who were detained at Saydnaya, four
prison officials or guards who previously worked at Saydnaya, three
former Syrian judges, three doctors who worked at Tishreen Military
Hospital, four Syrian lawyers, 17 international and national experts
on detention in Syria and 22 family members of people who were or
still are detained at Saydnaya.

On the basis of evidence
from people who worked within the prison authorities at Saydnaya and
witness testimony from detainees, Amnesty International
estimates
that between 5,000 and 13,000 people were extrajudicially executed
 at
Saydnaya between September 2011 and December 2015.

There
are several
difficulties with
this report.

1.           Most of the witnesses are identified as opposition figures and “former” officials who do not live in Syria. Some are said to have been remotely interviewed in Syria but it is not clear if those were living in government or insurgent held areas. Page 9:

The
majority of these interviews took place in person in southern Turkey.
The remaining interviews were conducted by telephone or through other
remote means with interviewees still in Syria, or with individuals
based in Lebanon, Jordan, European countries and the USA.

It
is well known that the Syrian insurgency is financed with several
billion dollars per years from foreign state governments. It runs
sophisticated propaganda operations. These witnesses all seem to have
interests in condemning the Syrian government. Not once is an attempt
made to provide a possibly divergent view. Amnesty found the persons
it questioned by contacting international NGOs like itself and known
foreign financed opposition (propaganda) groups:

These
groups include
Urnammu
for Justice and Human Rights, the Syrian Network for Human Rights,
and the Syrian Institute for Justice and Accountability
.

2.         The numbers Amnesty provides are in a very wide range. None
are documented in lists or similar exhibits. They are solely based on
hearsay and guesstimates of two witnesses:

People
who worked within the prison authorities at Saydnaya told Amnesty
International that extrajudicial executions related to the crisis in
Syria first began in September 2011. Since that time, the frequency
with which they have been carried out has varied and increased. For
the first four months,
 it
was usual for
between seven and 20
 people
to be executed
every
10-15 days
.
For the following 11 months,
 between
20 and 50 people
 were
executed once a week, usually on Monday nights. For the subsequent
six months, groups of between 20 and 50 people were executed
once
or twice a week
,
usually on Monday and/or Wednesday nights. Witness testimony from
detainees suggests that the executions were conducted at a similar –
or even higher – rate at least until December 2015. Assuming that
the death rate remained the same as the preceding period, Amnesty
International
estimates that
between 5,000 and 13,000 people were extrajudicially executed at
Saydnaya between September 2011 and December 2015.

From
“between x and y”, “once or twice a week”,
“suggests” and “assuming” the headline numbers
are simply extrapolated in footnote 40 in a
back-of-the-envelope calculation; “If A were true then B would
be X”:

These
estimates were based on the following calculations.
If between
seven and 20 were killed every 10-15 days from September to December
2011, the total figure
would
be
 between
56 people and 240 people for that period.
If between
20 and 50 were killed every week between January and November 2012,
the total figure
would
be
 between
880 and 2,200 for that period.
If between
20 and 50 people were killed in 222 execution sessions (assuming the
executions were carried out twice a week twice a month and once a
week once a month) between December 2012 and December 2015, the total
figure
would
be
 between
4,400 and 11,100 for that period. These calculations produce a
minimum figure of 5,336, rounded down to the nearest thousand as
5,000, and 13,540, rounded down to the nearest thousand as 13,000.

3.         I will not go into the details of witness statements on which
the report is build. They seem at least exaggerated and are not
verifiable at all. In the end it is pure hearsay on which Amnesty
sets it conclusions. One example from page 25:

Hamid”,
a former military officer when he was arrested in 2012, recalled the
sounds he heard at night during an execution:
“There was a
sound of
something
being pulled out
 –
like a piece of wood,
I’m
not sure
 –
and then you would hear the sound of them being strangled…
If
you put your ears on the floor, you could hear the sound of a kind of
gurgling
.
 This
would last around 10 minutes… We were sleeping on top of the sound
of people choking to death. This was normal for me then.”

A
court might accept ‘sound of “I’m not sure” “kind of
gurgling” noise through concrete’ as proof that a shower was
running somewhere. But as proof of executions?

Of
all the witnesses Amnesty says it interviewed only two, a former
prison official and a former judge, who describe actual executions
(page 25). From the wording of their statements it is unclear if they
have witnessed any hangings themselves or just describe something
they have been told of.

4.       The
numbers of people Amnesty claims were executed are – at best – a
wild ass guess. How come that Amnesty can name only very few of
those? On page 30 of its report it says:

Former
detainees from the red building at Saydnaya provided Amnesty
International with the names of 59 individuals who they witnessed
being taken from their cells in the afternoon, being
told
that they were being transferred to civilian prisons
 in
Syria. The evidence contained in this report strongly
suggests that
in fact, these individuals were extrajudicially executed.

and:

Former
prison guards and a former prison official from Saydnaya also
provided Amnesty International with the names of 36 detainees who had
been extrajudicially executed in Saydnaya since 2011.

Those
95, some of whom may have been “executed” – or not, are the
only ones Amnesty claims to be able to name. That is less than 1-2%
of the reports central claim of 5,000 to 13,000 executed. All those
witnesses could provide no more details of persons allegedly killed?

Amnesty
acknowledges that its numbers are bogus. Under the headline
“Documented Deaths” on page 40 it then adds additional
names and numbers to those above but these are not from executions:

the
exact number of deaths in Saydnaya is impossible to specify
.
However, the Syrian Network for Human Rights has verified and shared
with Amnesty International the names of 375 individuals who have died
in Saydnaya
as
a result of torture and other ill-treatment
 between
March 2011 and October 2016. Of these, 317 were civilians at the time
of their arrest, 39 were members of the Syrian military and 19 were
members of non-state armed groups. In the course of the research for
this report, Amnesty International obtained the names of 36
additional individuals who died as a result of torture and other
ill-treatment in Saydnaya. These names were provided to Amnesty
International by former detainees who witnessed the deaths in their
cells

The
“Syrian Network for Human Rights” (SNHR)
is a group in the UK probably connected to British foreign
intelligence and with dubious monetary sources. It only says:

SNHR
funds its work and activities through unconditional grants and
donations from individuals and institutions.

Now
that is true transparency.

SNHR
is known for
rather ridiculous claims about casualties caused by various sides of
the conflict. It is not know what SNHR qualifies as civilians – do
these include armed civil militia? But note that none of the mostly
civilians SNHR claims to have died in the prison are said to have
been executed. How is it possible that a organization
frequently quoted in
the media as detailed source of casualties in Syria has no record of
the 5,000 to 13,000 Amnesty claims were executed?

5.        The
report is padded up with before/after satellite pictures of enlarged
graveyards in Syria. It claims that these expansions are a sign of
mass graves of government opponents.  But there is zero
evidence for that. Many people have died in Syria throughout the war
on all sides of the conflict. The enlargement, for example, of the
Martyrs Cemetery south of Damascus (p.29/30) is hardly a sign of
mass killing of anti-government insurgents. Would those be honored
as martyrs by the government side.

6.       The
report talks of “
extrajudicially executed”
prisoners but then describes (military) court procedures and a
necessary higher up approval of the judgement. One may not like the
laws that govern the Syrian state but the courts and the procedures
Amnesty describes seem to follow Syrian laws and legal processes.
They are thereby – by definition – not extrajudicial

7.        In its Executive Summary the Amnesty report says that “Death
sentences are approved by the Grand Mufti of Syria and …”.
But there is no evidence provided of “approval” by the
Grand Mufti in the details of the report. On page 19 it claims,
based on two former prison and court officials:

“The judgement is sent by military post to the Grand Mufti of
Syria and to either the Minister of Defence or the Chief of Staff of
the Army, who are deputized to sign for Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad and who specify the date of the execution”.

It
is very doubtful that the Syrian government would “deputize”
or even inform the Grand Mufti in cases of military or criminal legal
proceedings. Amnesty International may dislike the fact but Syria is
a secular state. The Grand Mufti in Syria is a civil legal authority
for some followers of the Sunni Muslim religion in Syria but he has
no official judiciary role. From the 2010 Swiss dissertation Models
of Religious Freedom: Switzerland, the United States, and
Syria
 quoted here:

In
Syria a mufti is a legal and religious expert (faqih and ‘alim)
who
has
the power to give legally non-binding recommendations
 (sing.
fatwa, pl. fatawa) in matters of Islamic law.

Queries
which are either sought by a shari‘a judge or private
individuals
regard
the personal status laws of the Muslim community only
In
the Arab Republic fatawa are given neither to public authorities nor
to individual civil servants
,
 ..

Neither
the Syrian
constitution
nor any Syrian law I can find refers to a role
of the Grand Mufti in any military or civil criminal court proceding.
The Amnesty claim “approved by the Grand Mufti of Syria”is
not recorded anywhere else. It is very likely false. The Grand Mufti,
Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, is a
moderate
recognized and
accomplished scholar. He should sue Amnesty for this slander.

Syrian
law includes a death penalty for certain severe and violent crimes.
Before 2011 actual executions in Syria were
very rare
, most death sentences were commuted. Allegedly the laws
were amended in
late 2011, after the war in Syria had started, to include the death
penalty as possible punishment for directly arming terrorists.

It
is quite likely that the Syrian military and/or civil judiciary hand
out some death penalties against captured foreign and domestic
“rebels” it finds them guilty of very severe crimes. It is
fighting the Islamic State, al Qaeda and other extreme groups well
known for mass murder and other extreme atrocities. It is likely that
some of those sentences are applied. But the Syrian government has
also provided amnesty to ten-thousands of “rebels” who
fought the government but have laid down their arms.

The
claims in the Amnesty report are based on spurious and biased
opposition accounts from outside of the country. The headline numbers
of 5,000 to 13,000 are calculated on the base of unfounded
hypotheticals. The report itself states that only 36 names of
allegedly executed persons are known to Amnesty, less than the number
of “witnesses” Amnesty claims to have interviewed. The high
number of claimed execution together with the very low number of
names is not plausible.

The
report does not even meet the lowest mark of scientific or legal
veracity. It is pure biased propaganda.

Note:
An earlier version of this piece mixed up the Syrian Network for
Human Rights (SNHR) and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
(SOHR). Both are registered in the UK and claim to provide accurate
casualty data from Syria. Only SNHR is referenced in this Amnesty
report.

Syria
carried out mass hangings at military prison: Amnesty International
:
The Syrian government has executed up to 13,000 prisoners in mass
hangings and carried out systematic torture at a military jail near
Damascus, rights watchdog Amnesty International said on Tuesday.

Zo steunen o.a.

An
unexpected silver lining to the cloud of Trump’s visa ban, came to
light a few days ago when it was announced that the White Helmet
representatives would not be permitted entry into the US, under
the new legislation that will be enforced for the next ninety days.
The multi million dollar, NATO and Gulf state funded, pseudo
humanitarian, Nusra Front aka Al Qaeda “civil defence” group,
has, yet again, been thwarted, in its quest for red carpet honour
and recognition.

The
following is a report from
RT:

Two
members of the controversial White Helmets organization that operates
in Syria have been barred from attending the Academy Awards, the
producer of a documentary featuring the NGO said. The film has been
nominated for an Oscar.

White
Helmets leader Raed Saleh and cinematographer Khaled Khateeb, both
Syrian, were invited to the 2017 Academy Awards by Joanna Natasegara,
the producer of a short documentary about the organization available
on Netflix. The documentary film ‘The White Helmets’ has
been
nominated for
an Oscar, along with four other contestants.

Natasegara
expressed her outrage over the new development in a statement:

They’ve
been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize,” she said. “These people
are the bravest humanitarians on the planet, and the idea that they
could not be able to come with us and enjoy that success is just
abhorrent.”

The
travel ban for seven predominantly Muslim countries imposed by US
President Donald Trump last week also affected acclaimed Iranian
filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, whose film The Salesman is nominated in the
Foreign Language category, and Syrian woman Hala Kamil, the subject
of Watani: My Homeland, another nomination for the short documentary
award.

This
is not the first time Saleh has been banned from entering the United
States. In April 2016, he had to return to Istanbul after discovering
that his visa had been cancelled by the US. This prevented him from
receiving an award in Washington at a gala party supported by White
Helmets sponsor USAID.

The
White Helmets, who also call themselves the Syrian Civil Defense,
have been touted as a non-political aid organization focused on
saving lives in war-torn Syria. The Oscar-nominated documentary
depicts them in line with that narrative.

Critics
say it is a foreign-funded propaganda vehicle closely aligned with
Islamist militant groups opposing the Syrian government. Members of
the group have been accused of stealing vehicles, rescue equipment,
and its very name from the government-run Syrian Civil Defense, an
organization with a decades-long record of rescue operations in
Syria.

Steve
Ezzedine

this Al Qaeda support group:

Zóóóóón charismatische man en innemende persoonlijkheid….. Gedver!!

Outrage
About Trump Exposes “Librul” Hypocrisy

By
Moon Of Alabama

January
30, 2017 “
Information
Clearing House

– “
Moon
Of Alabama
” – The
current “librul” (
liberale, AP) outrage about Trump’s announced policies
is somewhat amusing. Yes, these policies are bad, very bad. Trump is
bad. But so was Obama and so is Clinton. Protesting the policies of
one while not protesting when the other implemented the same policies
is insincere grandstanding.

Wherever
you look, those Trump policies are building directly on, or simply
repeat Obama policies. The now theatrically outraged people swallowed
those without a word of protest.

A
Trump order yesterday introduced a temporary ban on visa holders and
visa issuing to citizens of seven Middle East countries. These
countries are: Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Those countries have one thing in
common
. No terrorist who killed on U.S. soil originated from
them. The (few) terrorists who attacked within the U.S. came from the
Middle Eastern countries not on the list. Following Trump’s order,
outcries on social media and in various papers ensued. People went to
airports to protest. TV was there to spread the news.

But
it is nothing new that the citizens of those countries are targeted
with U.S. visa restrictions. It was Obama who introduced such
in 2015 and 2016. The Trump order links directly to them. It does not
name any country but refers to them as “countries
designated in Division O, Title II, Section 203 of the 2016
consolidated appropriations act.”

U.S
animosities against these countries is even older. According
to
the former general Clark, plans were made to wage war
against six of the now named seven countries back in 2001. Yemen was
later added while Lebanon was (temporarily?) taken off the list. The
administrations change, the selected “enemies” stay the
same.

In
2011 Obama stopped processing Iraqi visa requests for
six month
. That move was quite similar to Trump’s current one.
Where was the outcry in 2001? In 2011, 2015 and 2016? Is it only bad
when Trump restricts visits for certain people from certain
countries?

Sure,
Trump introduces his “outrageous” measures loud and
abruptly where Obama sneaked them in. But that is just different
marketing, not a different product.

This
morning CNN headlines: White
House discussing asking foreign visitors for social media info and
cell phone contacts
. HOW OUTRAGEOUS! How can Trump even think of
such an invasion of privacy! Fake outrage – Obama had already signed
off on this. The plans to collect social media accounts of traveling
visitors and citizens were officially introduced in October
2016
 and the implementation startedin
December 2016
. The Trump White House is late in discussing the
issue.

Yesterday
Trump also issued a
memorandum
to structure his National Security Council. It
says that the Director of National Intelligence and the chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Staff
“shall attend” when it is pertinent to the issue in
question. “Librul” outrage ensues. Trump
excludes the
DNI and CJCOS from the NSC! Obama’s first Defense Secretary calls it
a “huge mistake”! But
a
comparison
of the text Trump issued with the text Obama
issued when he came into office shows them to be mostly similar.
Nothing really relevant has changed. The “shall attend”
clause is exactly
the
same
.

Yesterday
people were protesting at airports against Trump’s temporary
immigration restrictions. Lots of outrage against Trump ensued on
social media over this and the other issues. The hypocrisy here
stinks to high heaven. Where were the protest when Obama did similar?

Where
are the protests demanding the repeal of the Patriot Act? Where are
the anti-war protests? These died as soon as Obama came into office.
They never came back even as Obama pursued polices that were, at
best, Republican light and far from any progressive ideal. Only fake
liberals, aka “libruls”, could agree with these. When Dick
Cheney is
your
witness
against Trump you have lost the plot.

Many
of the people coming out now against Trump would likely have
jubilated had Hilliary Clinton won the election and introduced the
exactly same policies. Protest against the system that is
incorporated in Trump, just as it is incorporated in Clinton, does
not come to their mind. Do they expect to be taken serious?

There
was no outrage today from any of the U.S. “libruls” and
their media outlets about last nights failedU.S.
military raid in Yemen
. The rural home of a tribal leader’s
family, friendly with some Yemeni al-Qaeda members, was raided by a
special operations commando. A U.S. tiltrotor military aircraft was
shot down during the raid. One soldier was killed and several were
wounded. The U.S. commandos responded with their usual panic. They
killed anyone in sight and bombed the shit out of any nearby
structure.According
to Yemeni sources
between 30 and 57 Yemenis were killed
including eight women and eight
children
(graphic pics). The U.S. military claimed, as it
always does, that no civilians were hurt in the raid.

One
of the killed kids was the 8 year old daughter of al-Qaeda
propagandist Anwar al-Awlaki. (The targeted family is related to
al-Awlaki’s wife.) The girl was
a
U.S. citizen
. Under Obama the CIA had already assassinated her
father and her 16 year old brother. With Obama’s active help the Gulf
countries have been bombing and destroying Ýemen for nearly two
years. No U.S. demonstrations were held against this war.

Yemeni
sources say that at least two men were abducted by the U.S. military.
The Central Command press release only said that the raid had helped
to acquire “intelligence” about possible future terror
acts. That probably means that the prisoners will be tortured to
unveil such “intelligence” even as they may not have any.
The Obama administration had introduced new rules for the military on
how to handle detainees. The UN judged that
the
application of some of these rules is torture
. The “libruls”
will of course be outraged should any of those rules, which Obama
introduced, be used under a Trump administration.

The
hypocritical outrage against Trump for things Obama already did is
exactly what Trump wants
and needs
. He keeps chasing the media and the Clintonistas around
the block. The impression he leaves, not only with his followers, is
that of a man who works a lot. 25 outrages out of 25 headlines in
just one week? “Impressive! That is way more than Obama
achieved!”

Trump
already filed for reelection. Who really wants to beat him will have
to attack him on fundamental issues. That is a problem for the
“libruls”. Obama and Clinton stand for the same terrible
policies Trump is pushing for. They are not as loud as Trump and
paint their aims in softer colors. But the difference is only one of
degree.

The
U.S., like many other “western” countries, needs
fundamentally different policies and politicians to become a more
just and social society. The current “librul” outcries take
energy away from achieving such.

“Muslim
ban” hypocrisy: Left quiet when Obama also halted visas:
 Why
was the Left silent when the Obama administration refused to issue
visas to Iraqis for six months?

Six
other times the US has banned immigrants
;
Donald Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’ is not the first time specific groups or
nationalities have been blocked from the US.

Just
Back From Syria, Rep. Gabbard Brings Message: ‘There Are No Moderate
Rebels’

By
Susan Jones

January 26, 2017 | 5:43 AM EST

(CNSNews.com)
– Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Hawaii Democrat, says she made a secret,
four-day trip to Syria — meeting with ordinary people and even
President Bashar al-Assad — because the suffering of the Syrian
people “has been weighing heavily on my heart.”

“I
wanted to see if there was in some small way, a way that I could
express the love and the aloha and the care that the American people
have for the people of Syria, and to see firsthand what was happening
there, to see that situation there,” Gabbard told CNN’s “The
Lead” with Jake Tapper on Wednesday.

She
returned with a message:

“I’ll
tell you what I heard from the Syrian people that I met with, Jake,
walking down the street in Aleppo, in Damascus, hearing from them.

They
expressed happiness and joy at seeing an American walking through
their streets. But they also asked why the U.S. and its allies are
providing support and arms to terrorist groups like al-Nusra,
al-Qaida or al-Sham, ISIS who are on the ground there, raping,
kidnapping, torturing and killing the Syrian people.

“They
asked me, why is the United States and its allies supporting these
terrorist groups who are destroying Syria when it was al Qaida who
attacked the United States on 9/11, not Syria. I didn’t have an
answer for them,” Gabbard said.

The
reality is… every place that I went, every person that I spoke to,
I asked this question to them, and without hesitation, they said,
there are no moderate rebels. Who are these moderate rebels that
people keep speaking of?

Regardless of the name of these
groups, the strongest fighting force on the ground in Syria is al
Nusra, or al Qaida and ISIS. That is a fact,” Gabbard said.

There
is a number of different, other groups — all of them essentially are
fighting alongside, with, or under the command of the strongest group
on the ground that’s trying to overthrow Assad.

“The Syrian
people recognize and they know that if President Assad is overthrown,
then al Qaida — or a group like al Qaida, that has been killing
Christians, killing people simply because of their religion, or
because they won’t support their terror activities, they will take
charge of all of Syria.

“This is the reality that the people
of Syria are facing on the ground, and why they are pleading with us
here in the United States to stop supporting these terrorist groups.
Let the Syrian people themselves determine their future, not the
United States, not some foreign country.”

Gabbard
said initially, she didn’t plan to meet with President Assad: “When
the opportunity arose to meet with him, I did so because I felt it’s
important that if we profess to truly care about the Syrian people,
about their suffering, then we’ve got to be able to meet with anyone
that we need to if there is a possibility that we could achieve
peace, and that’s exactly what we talked about.”

Tapper
noted that Assad is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths
and millions of people being forced from their homes and even their
country during the five-year civil war:

“Did
you have any compunctions about meeting with somebody like that,
giving him any sort of enhanced credibility because a member of the
United States Congress would meet with someone like that?”
Tapper asked.

“Whatever
you think about President Assad, the fact is that he is the president
of Syria,” Tulsi replied. “In order for any peace agreement, in
order for any possibility of a viable peace agreement to occur, there
has to be a conversation with him,” Gabbard said.

The
Syrian people will determine his outcome and what happens with their
government and their future, but our focus, my focus, my commitment
is on ending this war that has caused so much suffering to the Syrian
people.”

In
a speech on the House floor earlier this month, Gabbard criticized
America’s “interventionist wars.”

Our
limited resources should go toward rebuilding our communities here at
home, not fueling more counterproductive regime change wars abroad.”

She
urged her fellow lawmakers to support her bill, the “Stop Arming
Terrorists Act,” legislation that would stop the U.S. government
from using taxpayer dollars to directly or indirectly support groups
allied with terrorist groups such as ISIS and al Qaeda in their war
to overthrow the Syrian government.

“The fact that our
resources are being used to strengthen the very terrorist groups we
should be focused on defeating should alarm every American,”
Gabbard said.

 I
urge my colleagues to support this
bipartisan
legislation
 and
stop this madness.”

Gabbard
supported Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, but after the election,
she was one of many people invited to meet with President-elect
Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York.

“President-elect
Trump asked me to meet with him about our current policies regarding
Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as
well as other foreign policy challenges we face,” Gabbard said
about the meeting.

I
felt it important to take the opportunity to meet with the
President-elect now before the drumbeats of war that neocons have
been beating drag us into an escalation of the war to overthrow the
Syrian government — a war which has already cost hundreds of
thousands of lives and forced millions of refugees to flee their
homes in search of safety for themselves and their families.”

The
Syrian People Desperately Want Peace

By
Tulsi Gabbard

As
much of Washington prepared for the inauguration of President Donald
Trump, I spent last week on a fact-finding mission in Syria and
Lebanon to see and hear directly from the Syrian people. Their lives
have been consumed by a horrific war that has killed hundreds of
thousands of Syrians and forced millions to flee their homeland in
search of peace.

It
is clear now more than ever: this regime change war does not serve
America’s interest, and it certainly isn’t in the interest of the
Syrian people.

We
met these children at a shelter in Aleppo, whose families fled the
eastern part of the city. The only thing these kids want, the only
thing everyone I came across wants, is peace. Many of these children
have only known war. Their families want nothing more than to go
home, and get back to the way things were before the war to overthrow
the government started. This is all they want.

I
traveled throughout Damascus and Aleppo, listening to Syrians from
different parts of the country. I met with displaced families from
the eastern part of Aleppo, Raqqah, Zabadani, Latakia, and the
outskirts of Damascus. I met Syrian opposition leaders who led
protests in 2011, widows and children of men fighting for the
government and widows of those fighting against the government.

I
met Lebanon’s newly-elected President Aoun and Prime Minister
Hariri, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard, Syrian
President Assad, Grand Mufti Hassoun, Archbishop Denys Antoine Chahda
of Syrian Catholic Church of Aleppo, Muslim and Christian religious
leaders, humanitarian workers, academics, college students, small
business owners, and more.

Their
message to the American people was powerful and consistent: There is
no difference between “moderate” rebels and al-Qaeda (al-Nusra)
or ISIS — they are all the same. This is a war between
terrorists under the command of groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda and the
Syrian government. They cry out for the U.S. and other countries to
stop supporting those who are destroying Syria and her people.

I
heard this message over and over again from those who have suffered
and survived unspeakable horrors. They asked that I share their voice
with the world; frustrated voices which have not been heard due to
the false, one-sided biased reports pushing a narrative that supports
this regime change war at the expense of Syrian lives.

I
heard testimony about how peaceful protests against the government
that began in 2011 were quickly overtaken by Wahhabi jihadist groups
like al-Qaeda (al-Nusra) who were funded and supported by Saudi
Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, the United States, and others. They exploited
the peaceful protesters, occupied their communities, and killed and
tortured Syrians who would not cooperate with them in their fight to
overthrow the government.

I
met a Muslim girl from Zabadani who was kidnapped, beaten repeatedly,
and raped in 2012, when she was just 14 years old, by “rebel
groups” who were angry that her father, a sheep herder, would not
give them his money. She watched in horror as masked men murdered her
father in their living room, emptying their entire magazine of
bullets into him.

I
met a boy who was kidnapped while walking down the street to buy
bread for his family. He was tortured, waterboarded, electrocuted,
placed on a cross and whipped, all because he refused to help the
“rebels” — he told them he just wanted to go to school.
This is how the “rebels” are treating the Syrian people who do
not cooperate with them, or whose religion is not acceptable to them.

Although
opposed to the Assad government, the political opposition spoke
strongly about their adamant rejection of the use of violence to
bring about reforms. They argue that if the Wahhabi jihadists, fueled
by foreign governments, are successful in overthrowing the Syrian
state, it would destroy Syria and its long history of a secular,
pluralist society where people of all religions have lived peacefully
side by side. Although this political opposition continues to seek
reforms, they are adamant that as long as foreign governments wage a
proxy regime change war against Syria using jihadist terrorist
groups, they will stand with the Syrian state as they work peacefully
toward a stronger Syria for all Syrians.

Originally,
I had no intention of meeting with Assad, but when given the
opportunity, I felt it was important to take it. I think we should be
ready to meet with anyone if there’s a chance it can help bring
about an end to this war, which is causing the Syrian people so much
suffering.

I
met these amazing women from Barzi, many of whom have husbands or
family members who are fighting with al-Nusra/al-Qaeda, or with the
Syrian army. When they come to this community center, all of that is
left behind, as they spend time with new friends, learning different
skills like sewing, making plans for their future. They were
strangers before coming to this community center whose mission is
empowering these women, and now they are “ sisters” sharing
laughter and tears together.

I
return to Washington, DC with even greater resolve to end our illegal
war to overthrow the Syrian government. From Iraq to Libya and now in
Syria, the U.S. has waged wars of regime change, each resulting in
unimaginable suffering, devastating loss of life, and the
strengthening of groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS.

I
call upon Congress and the new Administration to answer the pleas of
the Syrian people immediately and support the Stop Arming Terrorists
Act. We must stop directly and indirectly supporting
terrorists — directly by providing weapons, training and
logistical support to rebel groups affiliated with al-Qaeda and ISIS;
and indirectly through Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, and Turkey,
who, in turn, support these terrorist groups. We must end our war to
overthrow the Syrian government and focus our attention on defeating
al-Qaeda and ISIS.

The
U.S. must stop supporting terrorists who are destroying Syria and her
people. The U.S. and other countries fueling this war must stop
immediately. We must allow the Syrian people to try to recover from
this terrible war.

Thank
you,

Tulsi

When
It Comes to U.S. Foreign Policy, the Truth Hurts

A
bill before Congress could be used to target “any website, or blog,
that does not share the mainstream media’s proclivity to serve as
the Public Relations arm of a given administration.“ All they have
to do is claim it is being “manipulated” by the Russians. But,
Moscow doesn’t have to lie to counter a lawless U.S. foreign
policy. “The Russians only need to stick to the facts (omitting the
pipeline) to ultimately win the propaganda war.”

By
Ronald Thomas West

The
USA governing elite is sowing ever deepening dissent in the psyche of
those Americans actually inclined to think, understand and know for
themselves what is actually going on.”

January
24, 2017 “
Information
Clearing House

– “
BAR” –  Why
is the USA media, intelligence agencies and Congress in hysteria over
“Russian propaganda”? Because the Russians have, for quite
some time, had the absolute upper hand in the growing field of
alternative media. How is that?

What
the Russians appear to have clearly recognized is how to take
advantage of the corrupt nature of the western “mainstream”
press, an institution which has been co-opted
by western intelligence
agencies for a very long time.

The
Russian method? It could not be more simple; report the actual facts
in the geopolitical contest and when this is inconvenient, practice
lies by omission. Here is an example: Both NATO (an extension of the
USA) and Russia are contesting Syria over competing
energy pipelines
, primarily. One from Iran transiting Syria,
favored by Russia; the other from Qatar transiting Syria, favored by
NATO.

The
disadvantage NATO has faced in this competition is Syria controlled
by a Russian ally, that is, the government of Basher al-Assad.

Because
NATO sponsored Salafist militants to effect “regime change” (the
preferred NATO model since 1980s Afghanistan), a large number had,
not surprisingly, gone out of control (e.g. Islamic State is a direct
result.) Paradoxically, NATO-aligned states have pitched the
anti-Assad endeavor in terms of a “war on terror,” and there are
so many NATO lies (and lies to cover lies) in the co-opted western
media, the Russians only need to stick to the facts (omitting the
pipeline) to ultimately win the propaganda war. What’s more is,
Russia further only need stand back and allow western dissident
journalists to dig up the real facts on the ground:

1.
NATO’s “moderate” rebels are aligned with al-Qaida……………..

2.
NATO policy created the conditions for the rise of IS……………

3.
Western ally Saudi Arabia bankrolls the Salafist extremists……. ✓

4.
NATO member Turkey has protected & supplied IS…………….. ✓

Depending
on the geopolitical reality of the day, for instance whether the
paranoid ego-maniac Sultan Erdogan of Turkey is behaving well or not,
the stories by western dissident journalists that will withstand
close scrutiny are run in Russian or Russia friendly media outlets.
The result? Odds are 100:1 you’ll get more reliable information
from Russian state TV or Russian sponsored websites than from ABC,
CBS, CNN or NBC.

Shoot
the messenger

 At
the end of the day, the only solution NATO’s main sponsor, the USA,
can come up with to protect it’s colossal efforts to deceive and
manipulate the western public is to silence dissident journalists by
cutting off access to alternative media. Zerohedge on the present
proposal
:

On
November 30, one week after the Washington Post launched its witch
hunt against “Russian propaganda fake news”, with 390 votes for,
the House quietly passed “H.R.
6393, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017
“,
sponsored by California Republican Devin Nunes (whose thirdlargest
donor in 2016 is Google parent Alphabet, Inc
), a bill which deals
with a number of intelligence-related issues, including Russian
propaganda, or what the government calls propaganda, and hints at a
potential crackdown on “offenders.”

A
quick skim of the bill reveals “Title V—Matters relating to
foreign countries,” whose Section 501 calls for the government
to “counter
active measures by Russia to exert covert influence … carried out
in coordination with, or at the behest of, political leaders or
the security services of the Russian Federation and the role of the
Russian Federation has been hidden or not acknowledged publicly.”

The
section lists the following definitions of media manipulation:

*
Establishment or funding of a front group.

*
Covert broadcasting.

*
Media manipulation.

*
Disinformation and forgeries.

*
Funding agents of influence.

*
Incitement and offensive counterintelligence.

*
Assassinations.

*
Terrorist acts.

As ActivistPost
correctly notes
, it is easy to see how this law, if passed by the
Senate and signed by the president, could be used to target,
threaten, or eliminate so-called “fake news” websites,
a
list which has been used to arbitrarily define any website, or blog,
that does not share the mainstream media’s proclivity to serve as
the Public Relations arm of a given administration“

Russian
victory enhanced

The
reactionary moves by the NATO/USA propagandists to having been bested
in the game by Russia only sweetens the Russian victory. Similar to
Erdogan’s over-reaction in cracking down on anyone who doesn’t
follow the ruling party line in Turkey, the USA governing elite is
sowing ever deepening dissent in the psyche of those Americans
actually inclined to think, understand and know for themselves what
is actually going on. The sort of reactionary behavior embodied in
the color of law [anti-constitutional order represented in the
“national security state”] governing the United States and its
allies destabilizes any society.

Propaganda
budget

The
USA media mouthpieces are not going to broadcast the American
propaganda budget, so let’s
turn to Russia’s Sputnik to get the facts
:

Last
year, the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), the US federal
agency responsible for Voice of America and Radio Liberty/Radio Free
Europe, among others, requested a substantial budget increase.
Seeking a boost of $30 million, the BBG’s budget soared to $751.5
million.

That
was, evidently, not enough money. President Obama’s newly proposed
budget for fiscal year 2017 proposes another massive increase in
spending for the BBG. If granted, the agency will receive nearly $778
million, a roughly $27 million increase” [over the $30 million
boost]

The
Russians are willing to broadcast the
factual news
the USA’s intelligence agency co-opted media mouth-pieces will not.
Point made?

Western
press propagandizing Americans

How
much of the USA’s propaganda budget is actually
aimed
at Americans
?

The
newest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
includes an amendment that would legalize
the use of propaganda on the American public
, reports Michael
Hastings of BuzzFeed.

The
amendment — proposed by Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) and Adam Smith
(D-Wash.) and passed in the House last Friday afternoon —
would effectively nullify the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948,
which explicitly forbids information and psychological
operations aimed at influencing U.S. public opinion

Huh.
And yeah, that was made into law.

Odd
bedfellows

Glenn
Greenwald’s related, and otherwise excellent piece ‘Washington
Post Disgracefully Promotes a McCarthyite Blacklist From a New,
Hidden, and Very Shady Group
‘ throws a bone to one of the very
worst propaganda prostitutes extant on the world-wide-web: Elliot
Higgins of Bellingcat. WTF.
