Michael Bloombergs deelname aan de verkiezingen laten nog eens zien hoe ondemocratisch de VS presidentsverkiezingen zijn

Alan
Macleod schreef een artikel op MintPress News waarin hij stelt dat de
deelname van miljardair Bloomberg aan de presidentsverkiezingen in de
VS ‘serieuze vragen oproept over de democratie…..’ ha! ha! ha! ha!
ha! ha! ha! Het was Macleod nog niet opgevallen dat wat betreft het
democratisch gehalte van verkiezingen in de VS weinig of niets over
is (als deze verkiezingen al ooit echt democratisch waren)……

Miljoenen
burgers in de VS kunnen hun stem niet uitbrengen of wordt het
onmogelijk gemaakt om te stemmen….. Je kan het wel vergeten mee te
doen aan deze verkiezingen als je niet een enorme zak geld meebrengt
en/of bedrijven en miljardairs achter je hebt staan…. In beide
gevallen zal er wat terug worden verwacht van het presidentschap,
ofwel de ene dienst is de andere waard (over ‘quid pro quo’ gesproken) en dat geldt zelfs voor
individuen die als Bloomberg schathemelrijk zijn, deze figuren zijn
zo rijk geworden omdat ze overal aan willen verdienen. Zie ook Trump
die met zijn presidentschap al weer vele miljoenen moet hebben
verdiend buiten het salaris voor het presidentschap om, daar hij dat presidentschap
ook ten dienste laat staan van zijn bedrijven, om over het aanstellen
van familieleden op hoge functies nog maar te zwijgen…..

Toch
heb ik het stuk van Macleod overgenomen, ten eerste daar men in de VS
de laatste jaren steeds meer vraagtekens zet bij het democratisch
gehalte van de staat en ten tweede daar zijn artikel een mooi inzicht
geeft in het reilen en zeilen van de verkiezingen in de VS, juist
gekoppeld aan het besteden van enorme sommen geld. Ten derde is
Bloomberg eigenaar van een flink aantal mediaorganen en juist die
combinatie is gevaarlijk voor de andere democratische deelnemers aan
de voorverkiezingen van het presidentschap…..

Bloombergs
mediaorganen met 2.700 journalisten kunnen hem al een deel van de
zege of zelfs de zege bezorgen…… Weer komt Macleod hier met een
vreemde vraag: of die journalisten dan wel eerlijk en objectief
zullen berichten en niet alleen in het voordeel van Bloomberg verslag
zullen doen van de aanloop naar de voorverkiezingen tot aan de
presidentsverkiezingen…… Macleod werkt voor een alternatief
mediaorgaan en zou moeten weten dat de reguliere massamedia al lang
niet meer onafhankelijk berichten, of zelfs onafhankelijk zijn, NB de
mediaorganen van Bloomberg laten dit al zien, zij zullen nooit
berichten brengen die ingaan tegen de belangen van Bloombergs enorme
aantallen aandelen* of zijn bedrijven, of zelfs tegen
zijn politieke ideologie (voor zover daar sprake van is, daar hij in
feite een Republikein is, maar nu opgaat voor de Democratische
Partij….. 

Bloombergs gooi naar het presidentschap zal ingegeven zijn door Elisabeth Warrens en Bernie Sanders deelname aan de verkiezingen, daar Bloomberg, zoals vele rijke VS burgers, als de dood is voor
deze twee democraten, die beiden beloven de
welgestelden nu eindelijk eens aan te gaan pakken i.p.v. ‘working Jane of Joe’, of hun door politiek wanbeleid werkloos geworden collega’s…….. (al zijn de plannen zo dat de rijkdom van Bloomberg en anderen amper zal slinken……)

After months of speculation, former New York City Mayor Michael
Bloomberg formally announced a high-profile, big-money campaign to
become the Democratic Presidential nominee on November 24. The
77-year-old former Republican has decided that he is the perfect
candidate to prevent the president from achieving a second term.

Bloomberg
has a long history of support for conservative positions,
including endorsing George
W. Bush’s War on Terror and defending Israel’s 2014 assault on
Gaza.

In 2014, Michael Bloomberg went so violently right wing, that the White House’s Valerie Jarrett had to stop him and say that Israel’s bombing of 500 sleeping Palestinian children was inexcusable. He defended it.

The
primary reason why the self-described conservative has the ability to
credibly enter the race at such a late date is his financial clout.
Bloomberg is the world’s ninth richest individual, enjoying a net
worth of nearly
$55 billion and
he owns a huge eponymous media network, one of the largest in the
world.

His
recent entry into the ring has proven controversial with many who see
the plutocrat’s power and influence as an unfair advantage. Sawyer
Hackett, the National Press Secretary for his Democratic nomination
opponent Julian Castro noted that if someone had made half a million
dollars per day since the United States’ founding in 1776, they
would still be far poorer than Bloomberg himself is.
Hackett concluded,
“that kind of wealth shouldn’t be allowed to leverage success in
our primaries.”

and former New
York Times columnist
Anand Giridharadas pointed out that Bloomberg’s pitch to the
American people, that his wealth makes him incorruptible and
therefore more trustworthy, was illogical, given that the Democratic
Party is currently attempting
to impeach a
billionaire president on corruption charges, arguing that “being
very rich gives you more interests, not less.” It is for this
reason that Elizabeth Warren has accused
him of
trying to essentially “buy the nomination.”

Yet
Bloomberg’s run for President highlights another danger: that of
freedom of the press. As the New
Republic warned,
the 2,700
journalists working
directly under him in his extensive media network are in an
impossible position. Can they truly report fairly and in an unbiased
manner on the presidential race when their owner has such an obvious
and important stake in its proceedings? If history is any judge, the
answer to that will be “no.” Silvio Berlusconi, for instance,
used his vast media empire to propel him and keep him in power as the
Prime Minister of Italy for nine years.

Bloomberg Editor
in Chief John Micklethwait announced a
series of top-down measures attempting to head off this problem,
instructing the company to simply not cover their boss or any of the
other candidates in the Democratic primaries. How a major news outlet
is going to ignore such an important ongoing process was not
explained.

Yet
the company appears to already be breaking this promise. The
organization ran three negative stories on
Elizabeth Warren in a 24-hour period earlier this week. Was this as a
response to her criticism of his actions or an attempt to undermine
one of the most popular rival candidates’ chances? That is a
question that arises uniquely in a situation where a politician owns
the means of communication.

Bloomberg
the billionaire has muddied the waters between his political
interests and his media empire even further by hiring David
Shipley and Tim O’Brien, Executive Editors from his news outlet, to
key positions in his presidential campaign.

Yet
another important danger to media freedom is the fact that Bloomberg
is promising to lavish enormous amounts of money to corporate media
outlets in the form of political advertising. Even before he had
officially announced his candidacy, he already
spent $33 million in
television advertising alone, beaming his message nationally and in
98 local markets. With the prospect of a bonanza of a seemingly
bottomless pile of advertising money, will corporate media outlets,
under intense financial pressure, be influenced in their coverage of
the billionaire’s activities?

There
is always a quid pro quo when one accepts funding from any powerful
person or organization.

The
billionaire already has a list of ringing media endorsements from
some of America’s most influential media figures. The New
York Times’ Thomas
Friedman claimed as
President he would “forcefully put a Democratic pro-growth,
pro-innovation, pro-business agenda on the table” in a column
entitled “Why I like Mike.” His colleague Bret Stephens cheered
him on. His article “Run,
Mike Run!” argued that the wonderful thing in choosing a
conservative Republican as Democratic candidate was that all the
usual Republican talking points about the Democrats being too liberal
would not work on Bloomberg. Meanwhile, one New
York Post commentator said he
was “delighted” that the plutocrat was “saving the party”
from out-of-touch socialists like Warren.

The
uber-conservative Bret Stephens came out to bat for Bloomberg in
the New
York Times.

Can
we be sure that these are genuine expressions of support, or merely a
calculated quid pro quo? This is again a question that only arises in
a corporate, advertiser-dominated media ecosystem. Corporate media
have every reason to prop up the multi-billionaire’s campaign,
keeping him in the race as long as possible, knowing that the money
will continue to flow, as long as they do not portray him poorly.
(Rest assured that MintPress News has not been
approached to carry water for his campaign).

The
New Yorker’s presidential bid highlights the contradictions between
both extreme wealth and a for-profit, corporate advertiser-driven
media landscape and democracy and freedom of expression. Any
expansion of democracy and solution to these dilemmas requires
seriously questioning whether either of the first two are legitimate.
As Bernie Sanders said,
“Billionaires shouldn’t exist.”

Caitlin
Johnstone heeft een artikel gepubliceerd waarin ze stelt dat
de Overton Window (Overton-venster of Raam van Overton) onderhevig is
aan sterke inkrimping. Het Overton-venster is het spectrum aan
gedachtegoed dat wordt geaccepteerd door het publiek. Ofwel waar spreken we wel en niet over. (degenen die uitmaken waarover gesproken wordt zijn politiek en media). Zoals je begrijpt is e.e.a. een heel smerige vorm van manipulatie, iets waarvan politiek en media nu juist de alternatieve media op het internet beschuldigen….

Johnstone
stelt dus dat het Overton-venster aan krimp onderhevig is en dat
toont ze aan door een groot aantal voorbeelden, waar ze aangeeft dat
men spreekt over zaken, maar niet kijkt wat bijvoorbeeld de oorzaak
is van waar men over spreekt. Neem de islamitische terreuraanslagen
in het westen: het is prima om daar over te spreken zolang je de
schuld maar bij de jihadisten legt en niet begint over de
grootschalige westerse terreur in islamitische landen in het
Midden-Oosten, terreur die terreur in Europa oproept en grote vluchtelingenstromen richting Europa opgang heeft gebracht….. Ofwel men wil wel over één van de gevolgen van een fout
beleid spreken (fout >> immers het westen heeft niets te zoeken in het
Midden-Oosten): terreur op de Europese straten, maar niet wat de
oorzaak daarvan is…..

Johnstone
noemt o.a. het discussiëren over censuur op het internet, zonder dat de de
vraag wordt gesteld of die censuur nodig is….. Veel sites en blogs
zijn platgelegd in de VS, in feite als gevolg van de ‘Russiagate’
leugen, terwijl het hele Russiagate verhaal intussen onderuit is gehaald……
‘Russiagate’ was in feite een smerige truc van Hillary Clinton
en haar campagneteam, om haar eigen misdaden tijdens de Democratische
voorverkiezingen te verbergen……

Of wat
dacht je van het debatteren over de steun die politici in de VS (en een aantal andere buitenlanden) krijgen van
grote bedrijven, zonder de vraag te stellen of het wel gewenst is
dat grote bedrijven in feite steekpenningen betalen voor een voor hen zo gunstig mogelijk beleid na de verkiezingen……. Kortom onvervalste corruptie!

Over
samenzweringstheorieën: men bediscussieert of iets wel of geen
samenzweringstheorie is, zonder over het feit te spreken dat de
figuren met macht nu eenmaal altijd samenspannen, anders gezegd:
samenzweren….

Johnstone
haalt zoals gezegd een groot aantal zaken aan en ik moet zeggen dat werkt
behoorlijk verhelderend, zelfs als je al op de hoogte was van de
effecten die discussies over een bepaalde zaak teweegbrengen, zonder dat men over de
oorzaak heeft gesproken…… Ook wordt nog eens duidelijk gemaakt hoe
machtig de reguliere westerse (massa-) media zijn en hoe het komt dat
men daar ongegeneerd liegt en manipuleert. Dit is uiteraard in het
belang van de plutocratische eigenaren en in het belang van de
overheid, zoals bij bepaalde berichtgeving door ‘onze’ NOS…. Neem de totaal gekleurde berichtgeving door de reguliere media, inclusief ‘fake news’ en andere desinformatie, voorafgaand aan en tijdens de illegale oorlogen van de VS, oorlogen die door het zittende Nederlandse kabinet maar al te graag worden gesteund, ook al worden deze oorlogen op basis van hele bergen leugens gevoerd….. Oorlogsvoering is veelal ook in het belang van de
plutocratische media eigenaren, die enorme aandelenportefeuilles
hebben in de moorddadige oorlogsindustrie en in de olie-industrie, waar deze oorlogsvoering
zoals gezegd ook in het belang is van overheden, zoals die van de
VS……. Neem bijvoorbeeld Turkije waar Erdogan steeds minder
populair werd >> Erdogan valt Syrië illegaal binnen en is weer
populair bij het volk, terwijl hij schaamteloos gebruik maakt van de
media, die hij na een heftige persbreidel onder de duim heeft…..

plutocrat-owned narrative managers of the political/media class work
constantly to shrink the Overton
window,
the spectrum of debate that is considered socially acceptable. They
do this by framing more and more debates in terms of how the
oligarchic empire should be sustained and supported, steering them
away from debates about whether that
empire should be permitted to exist at all.

They
get people debating whether there should be some moderate changes
made or no meaningful changes at all, rather than the massive,
sweeping changes we all know need to be made to the entire system.

They
get people debating whether they should elect a crook in a red hat or
a crook in a blue hat, rather than whether or not they should be
forced to elect crooks.

They
get people debating violations of government secrecy laws, not
whether the government has any business keeping those secrets from
its citizenry in the first place.

They
get people debating how internet censorship should take place and
whom should be censored, rather than whether any internet censorship
should occur.

They
get people debating how and to what extent government surveillance
should occur, not whether the government has any business spying on
its citizens.

They
get people debating how subservient and compliant someone needs to be
in order to not get shot by a police officer, rather than whether a
police officer should be shooting people for those reasons at all.

They
get people debating whether or not a group of protesters are
sufficiently polite, rather than debating the thing those protesters
are demonstrating against.

They
get people debating about whether this thing or that thing is a
“conspiracy theory”, rather than discussing the known fact
that powerful people conspire.

They
get people debating whether Tulsi Gabbard is a dangerous lunatic, a
Russian asset, a Republican asset gearing up for a third party run,
or just a harmless Democratic Party crackpot, rather than discussing
the fact that her foreign policy would have been considered perfectly
normal prior to 9/11.

They
get people debating whether Bernie Sanders is electable or too
radical, rather than discussing what it says about the status quo
that his extremely modest proposals which every other major country
already implements are treated as something outlandish in the United
States.

They
get people debating whether Jeremy Corbyn has done enough to address
the Labour antisemitism crisis, rather than whether that “crisis”
ever existed at all outside of the imaginations of establishment
smear merchants.

They
get people debating whether Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren would win
against Trump, rather than whether either of those establishment
lackeys is a worthy nominee.

They
get people debating whether politicians should have corporate
sponsors, rather than whether corporations should be allowed to
interfere in the electoral process at all.

They
get people debating if the US should be pursuing regime change in
Iran or Syria, rather than whether the US has any business
overthrowing the governments of sovereign nations to begin with.

They
get people debating how many US troops should be in Syria, rather
than whether that illegal invasion and occupation was ever legitimate
in the first place.

They
get people debating whether to kill people slowly by sanctions or
kill them quickly with bombs, rather than whether they should be
killed at all.

They
get people debating whether or not some other country’s leader is
an evil dictator, rather than whether it’s any of your business.

They
get people debating the extent to which Russia and Trump were
involved in the Democratic Party’s 2016 email leaks, rather than the
contents of those leaks.

They
get people debating what the response should be to Russian
interference in the election, rather than whether that interference
took place at all, and whether it would really matter if it did.

They
get people debating how much government support the poor should be
allowed to have, rather than whether the rich should be allowed to
keep what they’ve stolen from the poor.

They
get people debating what kind of taxes billionaires should have to
pay, rather than whether it makes sense for billionaires to exist at
all.

They
get people impotently debating the bad things other countries do,
rather than the bad things their own country does which they can
actually do something about.

They
get people debating what should be done to prevent the rise of China,
rather than whether a multipolar world might be beneficial.

They
get people debating whether western cold war escalations against the
Russian Federation are sufficient, rather than whether they want to
horrors of the cold war to be resurrected in the first place.

They
get people debating what extent cannabis should be decriminalized,
rather than whether the government should be allowed to lock anyone
up for deciding to put any substance whatsoever in their own
body.

They
get people debating whether or not US troops should be withdrawn from
Afghanistan, rather than whether or not there should be any US troops
outside of the US.

They
get people debating whether or not Julian Assange is “a real
journalist”, rather than whether or not they should set legal
precedents that necessarily criminalize acts of journalism.

They
get people debating the subtle details of bail protocol, political
asylum, embassy cat hygiene and leaking rather than whether it should
ever be legal to imprison a publisher for exposing government war
crimes.

They
get people debating what the punishment should be for whistleblowers,
not what the punishment should be for those they blow the whistle on.

They
get people debating whether Fox or MSNBC is the real “fake
news”, rather than whether the entirety of mainstream media is
oligarchic propaganda.

They
get people debating about how the things everyone is freaking out
over Trump doing were previously done by Obama, rather than
discussing why all US presidents do the same evil things regardless
of their parties or campaign platforms.

They
get people debating what should be done with money, not whether the
concept of money itself is in need of a complete overhaul.

They
get people debating what should be done with government, not whether
the concept of government itself is in need of a complete overhaul.

They
get people debating whether the status quo should be reinforced or
revised, rather than whether it should be flushed down the toilet
where it belongs.

They
get people angrily debating things they can’t change, rather than
constructively working on the things that they can.

They
get people shoving against each other in opposite directions, while
they swiftly build a cage around us all.

Derde presidentskandidaat Democratische Partij wil eind aan VS hulp voor Israël

Elizabeth
Warren, Democratisch presidentskandidaat, is de derde op rij die een eind wil
maken aan de hulp die de VS aan Israël geeft, althans als Israël doorgaat met het annexatie beleid op de West Bank (o.a. middels het
uitbreiden en stichten van nieuwe illegale nederzettingen op de West
Bank). Eerder gingen Bernie Sanders en Pete Buttigieg haar voor. Tot
voor kort zou een dergelijke stap als politieke suïcide worden
gezien, maar blijkbaar veranderen de tijden (en dit keer ten goede
van het verdrukte Palestijnse volk).

Na jaren
tevergeefs druk te hebben uitgeoefend op Caterpillar, Motorola en een Israëlische bank (vreemd dat in het hieronder opgenomen artikel de
naam niet wordt genoemd) te stoppen zaken te doen met Israëlische illegale nederzettingen in de door Israël illegaal bezette West Bank, heeft de Episcopaalse kerk besloten banden met
deze bedrijven te verbreken (bijvoorbeeld de aandelen van dergelijke
bedrijven weg te doen en de rekening bij de bedoelde bank op te
zeggen). 

De Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association (RRA) steunt
Betty McCollums (Republikein) wet om militaire hulp aan Israël in te
houden, vanwege het gevangenhouden van Palestijnse kinderen. Onder
druk zouden de Toronto Raptors hun reis naar Israël hebben uitgesteld en deze zal wellicht geheel worden afgesteld.

Tegelijkertijd
heeft Warren laten zien geen ruggengraat te hebben daar ze een Israëlische lobbyclub heeft verzekerd dat haar politieke beleid niets
te maken heeft met de progressieve Joodse groep IfNotNow……. De
vraag is wat e.e.a betekent als ze de volgende president van de VS
zal zijn en te vrezen valt dat ze het slappe beleid van Obama zal
voortzetten, ofwel veel beloven, maar weinig of zelfs niets doen,
immers de Joodse lobby in de VS politiek is uitermate machtig,
sterker nog deze bepaald zelfs deels de buitenlandpolitiek van de VS…… 

Mocht die VS hulp aan Israël tekort schieten, of wordt er door de VS politici te veel kritiek geleverd op Israël (naar de mening van de Israëlische regering), gaat Netanyahu, of diens opvolger naar
Capital Hill en laat daar de politici en het volk van de VS weten dat
men bijvoorbeeld vooral niet op figuren als Warren moet stemmen (precies dat deed Netanyahu in 2016)…… Dit wordt dan
niet als ongewenste buitenlandse inmenging in de verkiezingen van de VS
gezien, iets waar men Rusland volkomen onterecht van beschuldigde, sterker
nog voor die Israëlische inmenging in de VS politiek zijn pakken dossiers voorradig…….

Intussen
hebben de ‘Israëlische kolonisten’, (echt) illegale bewoners van de
West Bank, de Palestijnse olijvenoogst als doel van haar ongebreidelde
agressie gemaakt: ze hebben olijfbomen vernietigd en zijn zelfs een 80 jarige rabbi te
lijf gegaan, daar deze 100 olijfbomen van vernietiging wilde
redden….. Een verhaal dat je niet op Radio1 zal horen, met haar Israël lobbyist Arlene Gelderblom, die als correspondent fungeert….

In
Jeruzalem zijn dit jaar een record aantal huizen van Palestijnen
vernietigd, daar Israël elke nieuwbouw als een bedreiging voor haar
voortbestaan ziet, terwijl dit land met het zo ongeveer modernste
leger ter wereld, niets te vrezen heeft van de Palestijnen, die je het
best kan vergelijken met de oorspronkelijke volkeren van de drie Amerika’s, ofwel een strijd van met pijl en boog bewapende bewoners, tegen modern bewapende schoften, die men
destijds ook kolonisten noemde……

Jurist
Remi Brulin heeft intussen aangetoond dat een terreurcampagne in de
80er jaren tegen Palestijnen in Libanon, waar een groot aantal
Palestijnen in vluchtelingenkamp Shatila en de aangrenzende buurt Sabra werden vermoord, het werk was van Israëlische agenten,
een zaak die de Israëlische militaire censor tot voor kort
onder de pet heeft weten te houden…… (al moet gezegd worden dat men hier al vanuit ging bij de destijds nog echt onafhankelijke pers [en in de alternatieve pers] en dat vrijwel onmiddellijk na de vreselijke
bloedbaden; opperschoft en massamoordenaar Sharon speelde ook hier ook een ‘mooie rol…’)

Stop
alle hulp aan Israël en boycot deze (nu officiële) fascistische
apartheidsstaat, ‘gefundeerd’ op de lijken van een enorm aantal
Palestijnen………

Palestinian
human rights are finally becoming an issue in the Democratic Party.
Elizabeth Warren became
the third Democrat, joining
Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders, to say that the United States
should withdraw aid from Israel if it continues its
settlement/annexation project. As our reporter Michael Arria said,
such a stance used to be “political suicide.” 

After
years of urging Caterpillar, Motorola and an Israeli bank to cease
business in the occupied territories, the
Episcopal Church moved to
divest itself of these corporations. And the Reconstructionist
Rabbinical Association endorsed Rep.
Betty McCollum’s landmark bill to strip US military aid from Israel’s
detention of children. And though the Toronto
Raptors promised a
trip to Israel, they appear to have scratched the date under pressure
from activists. 

Now
for the bad news…

Warren’s
campaign also assured
an Israel lobby group that
a young staffer who was a founder of the progressive Jewish group
IfNotNow will have nothing to do with her foreign policy work. Jeez
Louise. 

Settlers attacked
the Palestinian olive harvest,
and destroyed more than 100 trees– and took a crowbar to an
80-year-old rabbi who was trying to protect the trees. And in
2019 Israel
has already destroyed a record number of Palestinian homes in
Jerusalem — and it’s only October.”

Meantime,
there’s a stateside campaign against
Golbarg Bashi’s children’s book “P Is for Palestine” because
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Samidoun endorse the book and they support
BDS.  “The book is basically banned,” the
Iranian-American author told Nada Elia. 

Here

While
Remi Brulin demonstrates that

reports from that period.

Hillary Clinton manipuleert democratische voorverkiezingen

Hare
kwaadaardigheid Hillary Clinton heeft weer eens geput uit haar enorme kluis met leugens, dit keer is Tulsi Gabbard ‘de klos…..’ Als zaken
niet serieus genomen zouden worden, zou je je werkelijk doodlachen:
volgens Clinton zit één van de vrouwelijke democratische
presidentskandidaten in de zak van de Russen en daarmee zou Rusland
de verkiezingen van 2020 alweer hebben gemanipuleerd…. ha! ha! ha!
(ja, mijn excuus…).

Misdadiger
Clinton, heeft in 2016 de kandidaatstelling van de Democratische
Partij gestolen van Bernie Sanders, toen dat uitkwam, heeft ze de
Russen en Trump de schuld gegeven van het lekken van informatie over deze schunnige misdaad…… Ja zo zot is het mensen en zonder dat iemand nog over
die misdaad sprak, werden Trump en Putin beschuldigt van de
manipulatie van de VS presidentsverkiezingen (met een aantal door de Russen betaalde advertenties die
niet eens een tiende van een procent uitmaakten van het belachelijk hoge bedrag dat in totaal werd uitgegeven aan die presidentsverkiezingen, ofwel een totaal
belachelijke claim, zoals later ook uit onderzoek naar voren kwam….)

Nu is
Tulsi Gabbard aan de beurt, daar zij een meer linkse politiek
voorstaat en de grote bedrijven en banken wel aan wil pakken (dat
wilde Clinton ook zogenaamd in 2016, terwijl Wall Street haar
kandidaatstelling met een fiks kapitaal steunde….). Clinton is zo
smerig en doortrapt bezig dat ze de naam Gabbard niet heeft genoemd bij haar beschuldiging, alleen een
vrouwelijke democratische kandidaat voor het presidentschap en
uiteraard weet heel de VS dat hier Tulsi Gabbard mee wordt bedoeld…. (door die naam niet te noemen krijgt de argeloze lezer of kijker de idee dat hij/zij zelf de conclusie heeft getrokken dat het Gabbard moet zijn, psychische manipulatie van de meest gore plank….. Te vergelijken met het ophitsen van zijn volgelingen door fascist Wilders, toen hij hen vroeg of ze minder Marokkanen wilden in ‘ons’ land…..)

Zo ook
bij MSNBC, Caitlin Johnstone zag daar een programma waar men Gabbard nog eens fiks door de
virtuele stront haalde en zoals gewoonlijk als het om dit soort commentaar gaat, op een manier die te belachelijk is voor
woorden, zo werd er gesteld dat Gabbard niet heeft ontkend in de
zak van de Russen te zitten, terwijl ze wel degelijk over een smerige
campagne tegen haar persoon sprak, alsof dat een bevestiging is van de smerige leugen die Clinton op straat gooide….. 


Overigens gebeurt in Nederland hetzelfde, neem Pauw of Jinek met de
lulligste argumentatie worden zaken gepresenteerd als zou het de
waarheid en niets dan de waarheid zijn, neem de illegale oorlog die de VS in Syrië heeft ontketend en de valse beschuldigingen in de reguliere westerse pers, als zou Assad zijn volk hebben vergast, zelfs deels door de VN naar de prullenbak verwezen, of wat te denken van de berichtgeving in de maanden voorafgaand en die tijdens de illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Irak (met hulp van andere NAVO-lidstaten als Nederland), of wat te denken van de leugens (aantoonbaar) als zou Maduro het Venezolaanse volk laten verhongeren….

Het
lulligste van dit alles is dat daarmee het volk wordt bespeeld en men
alle leugens gelooft die worden verteld, neem (nogmaals) de illegale oorlogen
van de VS van alleen deze eeuw al, of wat dacht je van rampvlucht
MH17, op basis van een belachelijk rapport krijgt Rusland de schuld
in de schoenen geschoven, waarna het volk overspoeld wordt met kul en na een uur vol propagandaleugens gelooft men de onzin….. Nadat de Maleisische premier nog eens in het openbaar stelde dat het Nederlandse onderzoek een waardeloos onderzoek is en hij en zijn regering niet meegaan in het beschuldigen van de Russen, gingen zowel de media als de politiek uit hun bol over deze uitlating, zonder ook maar te luisteren wat men in Maleisië heeft te zeggen over rampvlucht MH17….. Nee, de veel te kleine rol die Maleise mocht spelen in het onderzoek wordt als teken gezien dat Maleisië wel akkoord is met wat het JIT te vertellen had en heeft…… (voor berichten over MH17, klik op dat label, direct onder dit bericht)

MSNBC Clip Is Everything Ugly About Russia Smears

There’s a
video clip circulating
on Twitter right now that simply has to be seen to be believed, in
which a gaggle of MSNBC pundits are seen furiously agreeing with each
other that Tulsi Gabbard has incriminated herself by pushing
back against
Hillary Clinton’s obnoxious
claim that
she is a Russian asset.

I
refuse to spend any portion of my life researching the name of
whatever MSNBC show this was or the panelists it features, but here’s
a quick breakdown for posterity:

“One
thing that was interesting about Tulsi Gabbard’s response, I mean she
went after Hillary Clinton, she was strong, she said she wasn’t gonna
run as a third party candidate–she never denied being a Russian
asset,” said a panelist MSNBC identifies as Kimberly Atkins.
“That was the one aspect that was missing from her response,
which, you know, you would think that would be within the first line
or two. It was not there.”

“When
Hillary Clinton says there’s a Russian asset and doesn’t say
anybody’s name and Tulsi Gabbard goes ‘How dare you call me a Russian
asset?’,” added some talking beanbag chair identified by MSNBC
as Jonathan Allen.

“Wait,
so Kimberly’s right, she didn’t say she was a Russian asset,”
interjected another super excited panelist, possibly the show’s host
but who cares. “To your point, Hillary Clinton didn’t name
names, but there’s Congresswoman Gabbard going ‘Me! Me, me! Me!'”

Now,
to be clear, all of these panelists are knowingly lying when they
suggest that Clinton may not have been talking about Gabbard.
Literally everyone knew that Hillary Clinton was talking about
Gabbard from
the moment news broke about
her libelous comments, which, as Gabbard pointed out in a recent
interview, was evidenced by the fact that all the news headlines
about those comments featured Gabbard’s name. Clinton referred, using
female pronouns, to a Democratic primary candidate who is a “favorite
of the Russians”; nobody in the world thought she was talking
about Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris or Amy Klobuchar, because those
candidates have never been smeared as Russian assets, only Gabbard
has. The self-evident fact that Clinton was referring to Gabbard was
then quickly
confirmed by a Clinton aide.

The
panelists are also lying when they claim that Gabbard has not denied
being a Russian asset; obviously if you call something a “smear”
as Gabbard has consistently
been doing you
are saying that it is false. But that should not matter. Claiming
that an evidence-free conspiratorial McCarthyite smear is true
because the target of that smear did not prostrate themselves
sufficiently to deny it is disgusting and shameful in and of itself.
The burden of proof is always on the party making the claim, and
extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If an
extraordinary claim is made with no evidence at all, the party making
that claim should be promptly shamed and dismissed.

One
of the most infuriating things about the Russia hysteria which has
polluted western political discourse is the way people keep getting
away with side-mouthed insinuations and innuendo, saying things
without directly saying them so that when someone responds to what
they’re saying they can go


“What!
Why I never said that, but my my, it’s very interesting that you
think I did?” Hillary Clinton knew very well that everyone would
understand who she was talking about, but the fact that the target of
her smear responded directly is being spun by her flying monkeys as
something weird and suspicious instead of something perfectly normal
and appropriate.

As
much as I speak out against violence and aggression, on a personal
level I find passive aggressiveness to be far more obnoxious than
just confronting someone head-on. The appropriate response to someone
making cowardly indirect accusations is to directly confront them and
call out what they’re really saying and describe what they’re really
doing, as Tulsi Gabbard did.

So
let’s say directly what the MSNBC panelists above tried to get away
with saying indirectly: MSNBC aired a segment in which panelists
falsely claimed that Tulsi Gabbard incriminated herself as a Russian
asset by responding to Hillary Clinton’s smear job. They lied, and
they will get away with lying, because billionaire-controlled media
like MSNBC is designed to manufacture consent for the status quo upon
which the empires of billionaires like Brian L Roberts (whose
parent company Comcast controls NBC) are
built. Call the propagandists what they are, and shame these passive
aggressive Red Scare tactics for the brain poison that it is.

ICE
houdt immigranten gevangen onder uitermate barre omstandigheden,
waar isolatiefolter aan de orde van de dag is. 

In het
hieronder opgenomen artikel, geschreven door Maryam Saleh, verhaalt
zij over de vreselijke omstandigheden waaronder ICE immigranten uit
Latijns-Amerika gevangen worden gehouden….. (zij gaat verder niet in op de omgang met vluchtelingenkinderen

Onlangs
werd al bekend gemaakt dat kinderen van immigranten nog steeds
gescheiden worden van hun ouders en moeten leven in omstandigheden
die te vergelijken zijn met de concentratiekampen van de nazi’s
tijdens WOII…… Hoorde eergisternacht op de BBC dat men zelfs
tot 100 kinderen in een soort van grote cel gevangen houdt…… Peuters lopen met of vuile luiers of helemaal geen luiers, zodat de kleding ongelofelijk vies wordt…..

Over kleding gesproken: pubers moeten soms wekenlang doen met de kleding die ze aanhebben….. Voedsel dat wordt verstrekt is niet zelden bedorven en de oudere kinderen moeten de kleine kinderen helpen, kinderen die zij niet kennen, noch dat deze pubers ervaring hebben in het zorgen voor kleine kinderen…… Het ontbreekt de kinderen veelal aan gezond voedsel, waar ze vaak zelfs te weinig te eten krijgen…… De sanitaire voorzieningen zijn smerig, zoals je al begrepen had…..

Uit het
artikel van Saleh, gepubliceerd op The Intercept, aandacht voor
het grote aantal gevallen van isolatie in de gevangenissen van ICE, of in door ICE gehuurde faciliteiten voor oudere vluchtelingen……. Voorts zijn ook hier de sanitaire
voorzieningen smerig en is het eten zonder meer slecht te noemen, zoals gezegd niet zelden met bedorven voedsel……

Het meest schunnige is wel, dat ondanks de grote ophef eerder over het scheiden van ouders en kinderen, deze scheiding nog steeds wordt doorgevoerd, om zo nieuwe vluchtelingen af te schrikken zodat ze niet naar de VS vluchten……

Het voorgaande kan dan ook tot geen andere conclusie leiden dan dat we hier (zoals eerder opgemerkt) te maken hebben met concentratiekampen en dat beste bezoeker kan niet vaak genoeg gezegd worden…….

SEN.
CORY BOOKER, D-N.J., is calling on Senate
Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to hold a hearing
into Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s “egregious and
appalling abuses,” including the widespread use of solitary
confinement.

In
a letter to
Graham, Booker, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, referred to
solitary confinement as a “form of torture” and cited a
recent investigation by
the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, The
Intercept, NBC News, and four other reporting partners into ICE’s
use of solitary confinement. Our reporting, which included a review
of more than 8,400 reports describing placement in solitary
confinement from 2012 to early 2017, found that ICE uses isolation as
a go-to tool, rather than a last resort, to punish vulnerable
detained immigrants.

“The
news stories detail numerous examples of individuals placed in
confinement without justification, which prompted a whistleblower to
come forward to shine a light on these abuses,” wrote Booker,
referring to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee Ellen
Gallagher,
who quietly raised the alarm about ICE’s use of solitary
confinement for four years before going public in interviews with the
reporting consortium.

While
different carceral systems use varying terms to describe solitary
confinement — ICE calls it “segregation” — it is generally
understood to be the practice of holding individuals in isolation
with no human contact for at least 22 hours a day.

“ICE’s
own policy seems to recognize the dangers of solitary confinement,”
Booker continued. “It appears ICE has been consistently violating
its own policy on the use of solitary confinement.”

His
letter to Graham comes on the heels of a letter from
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to the acting director of
ICE, demanding
answers about
the agency’s use of solitary confinement and extensively citing our
investigation. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., another member of
the Judiciary Committee, also called for
a hearing into ICE’s use of solitary in response to our
investigation last month. The panel’s Democrats do not have
independent authority to schedule a hearing, hence the request to
Graham.

Booker,
in his letter, said that a Judiciary Committee hearing about ICE
would give the panel a chance to interrogate “grossly unsanitary
conditions at detention facilities,” as well as to gather more
information about forthcoming immigration raids that President Donald
Trump “flippantly alluded to” on Twitter last week. The
president, after announcing that the agency would begin to round up
“millions” of immigrants this week — a
logistically impossible endeavor —
on Saturday put the ICE operation on hold.

Graham,
an anti-immigrant hard-liner and apologist for the Trump
administration’s harsh policies, convened a committee hearing —
at Democrats’ request — in March to investigate Customs and
Border Protection for its actions at the southern border. Graham used
the hearing as an opportunity for fearmongering about
migrants seeking asylum in the United States. The CBP, like ICE,
falls under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security.

The
oversight hearing on CBP was not enough, Booker wrote. “In order to
fully address the scope of ICE’s serious and egregious violations,
the Committee must convene an oversight hearing. It’s becoming
increasingly clear that ICE has become nothing more than a lethal
weapon in the Trump administration’s war on immigrants and
communities of color, and we cannot be silent.”

BOOKER’S
HARSH STANCE against
ICE in the letter to Graham is in line with the tack he’s taken on
the presidential campaign trail, where he’s been a staunch critic
of the agency’s policies. In February, he, along with other 2020
hopefuls Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand,
voted against a spending bill, citing ICE. At the time,
Booker said that
bill would give ICE and CBP “hundreds of millions of additional
dollars with little oversight or appropriate guardrails.” In April,
he reintroduced
legislation to
enact protections for detained immigrants.

Booker has
also been an outspoken advocate of the rights of prisoners throughout
his federal career. At the same time, he’s remained close to a
party boss in his home state who oversees a jail that serves as an
immigration detention center and is rife with abuses, drawing
the ire of local progressives.

As
Politico reported on
Tuesday, Booker will be in New Jersey on Friday for a
$2,800-per-person fundraiser co-hosted by Essex County Executive
Joseph DiVincenzo. In that role, DiVincenzo oversees the Essex County
Correctional Facility in Newark, which has a $40 million per year
contract with ICE — and was called out for poor conditions in two
DHS Inspector General reports just this year.

Twenty-one
progressive organizations last week sent a letter to Booker calling
on him to cancel the fundraiser, Politico reported. “I believe that
Booker wants to make sure that the funnel of money keeps coming
through, and that’s why he’s supporting Joe [DiVincenzo] right
now,” Carrine Murphy, a paralegal who is critical of county jails’
contracts with ICE, told
Politico.

In
February, the Office of Inspector General identified a
number of issues at the jail, including food safety issues, with
“potentially contaminated food being served to detainees.” One
example noted “a detainee in segregation said the food
was so bad that he had started a liquid only diet and was considering
a full hunger strike.”

Earlier
this month, the Inspector General issued a follow-up reportbuilding
on the same inspection and said that “detainees are placed in
disciplinary segregation before the disciplinary hearing panel finds
the detainee guilty of the charged offense.”

The
facility has reported making improvements in its solitary confinement
practices, “including documenting why detainee strip searches
were conducted and revising recreation schedules to add additional
recreation time,” the Inspector General wrote.

The
ICIJ and Intercept investigation found 100 records of placement in
solitary confinement at the Essex County jail from 2013 to early
2017. Twenty-seven of those placements were due to disciplinary
reasons, while three of them were the result of a suicide risk.
Overall, we found at least 373 instances of detained immigrants being
placed in isolation because they were potentially suicidal — and
another 200-plus cases of people already in solitary confinement
moved to “suicide watch” or another form of observation, in many
cases in another solitary cell.

Immigration
is expected to be a hot-button issue throughout the presidential
campaign. Booker and Warren will both participate in the first 2020
Democratic presidential debate in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday night.

Elisabeth
Warren, Democratische politicus en hoogleraar, die mee gaat doen aan de
presidentsverkiezingen in 2020, wil de macht van bedrijven als
Facebook (FB), Amazon en Google breken. Waar ze vooral FB de bel aanbindt
met het gevoerde bedrijfsbeleid waarin commentaar op het beleid van het bedrijf op het FB platform niet
wordt getolereerd…… 

Dit is geen nieuw beleid van FB, maar is vanaf 2007 de bedoeling geweest (van Zuckerberg), aldus Matt Stoller van het Open Markets Institute, Zuckerberg wenst geen discussie over Facebook op het FB platform…..

Als
dank voor Warrens volkomen terechte kritiek weigerde FB nog langer
een reclame voor het presidentschap uit te zenden, waarin ze de macht van de genoemde 3 bedrijven aan de kaak stelt……. Na fikse kritiek
is dit intussen wel teruggedraaid.

Echter
Warren was maar wat blij met de actie van FB, daar dit bedrijf met
haar actie Warren gelijk gaf met haar kritiek op de macht van FB….

Warren
heeft overigens al laten weten dat wanneer het aan haar ligt, de
macht van bedrijven als de genoemde 3 zal worden afgebroken.

In
a move Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) described as a perfect example
of why her
plan to break up tech giants is
necessary, Facebook late Monday took down ads from Warren’s
presidential campaign that promoted the proposal and denounced tech
corporations—including Facebook itself—for exploiting users’
private information for profit.

Though
the ads were later restored, Warren said the episode demonstrates the
need for a “social media marketplace that isn’t dominated by a
single censor”—a point that was echoed by
critics of big tech’s monopoly power.

“Curious
why I think FB has too much power? Let’s start with their ability to
shut down a debate over whether FB has too much power,” the
Massachusetts senator wrote, using the hashtag #BreakUpBigTech.

The
Facebook ad by Warren’s 2020 presidential campaign boosted her newly
released plan to
“break up big tech” by highlighting how concentration of
power in the hands of just three corporate behemoths—Facebook,
Amazon, and Google—has affected the U.S. economy and democracy
itself.


“Three
companies have vast power over our economy and our democracy.
Facebook, Amazon, and Google,” read the ad. “We all use
them. But in their rise to power, they’ve bulldozed competition, used
our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field in
their favor.”

“It’s
time to break up these big companies so they don’t have so much power
over everyone else,” Warren’s ad continued. “I’ve got a
plan to protect consumers and competition.”


On
Monday evening, the ad was briefly replaced
with the following message:
“This ad was taken down because it goes against Facebook’s
advertising policies.”


After
the move sparked immediate backlash, Facebook issued a statement
claiming the ads were pulled because “they violated our policies
against use of our corporate logo.”

“In
the interest of allowing robust debate,” the statement
continued, “we are restoring the ads.”

As
Open Markets Institute fellow Matt Stoller pointed out, Facebook’s
policy barring the use of its corporate logo originated a decade ago
in response to a group titled “Facebook Users Against the New
Terms of Service.”


Following
the group’s formation, Stoller noted, Facebook instituted a ban on
the use of the company name or logo in ads and group titles.

Jeannine
Pirro, een Fox presentator van de ‘show’ ‘Justice with Judge
Jeannine’ (ha! ha! ha!), heeft tijdens deze show afgelopen zaterdag
gesteld dat het dragen van een hidjab door Omar aan kan geven dat
ze de VS constitutie geweld aandoet……

Deze
uitlating ontketende terecht veel protest, niet alleen van de ‘gewone kijker’ maar
ook van vooraanstaande joden en joodse organisaties, die het met Omar
eens zijn wat betreft haar kritiek op de staat Israël, waarmee ze o.a. volkomen terecht stelt dat de staat Israël veel te veel invloed heeft
op de politiek in de VS. Men stelt e.e.a. in verband met de hetze in de VS tegen de islam (islamofobie) en het racisme tegen gekleurde VS
burgers…..

Volgens
Pirro heeft Omar haar denkbeelden* niet uit de Democratische Partij** en
daarbij vroeg ze zich af waar ze haar denkbeelden dan vandaan heeft, waarmee Pirro Omar in feite beschuldigt haar denkbeelden te halen van moslim extremistische sites….. Gelukkig hebben figuren als Bernie Sanders gesteld dat Omar geen
antisemiet is, als ze kritiek levert op de staat Israël en de
verbintenis met de VS politiek……**

Opvallend
toch dat zelfs Fox de uitlatingen van Pirro niet tolereert, nu nog
even de daad bij het woord voegen en Pirro ontslaan!!

(MEE) — Fox
News has condemned recent comments by host
Jeannine Pirro about
US Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, which prompted accusations of
racism and Islamophobia, as well as calls for Pirro to resign, over
the weekend.

Pirro,
host of the Fox News show “Justice with Judge Jeannine”, on
Saturday said the fact Omar wears a headscarf (hijab) may mean she
doesn’t support the US Constitution.

Late
on Sunday, Fox News released a statement condemning the host’s
comments, US media outlets reported.

“We
strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,”
the US cable news network said, as reported
by The Hill.
“They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the
matter with her directly.”

On
Monday, Omar herself thanked the network for its statement.

“Thank
you, @FoxNews. No one’s commitment to our constitution should be
questioned because of their faith or country of birth,” she wrote
on Twitter.

Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro questioned Saturday whether Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Islamic religious beliefs stand in opposition to the US Constitution.

Pirro’s
segment on Omar came after days of controversy over the
congresswoman’s criticism of Israel and questions she raised about
the influence exerted by pro-Israel lobby groups on US politics.

Omar
faced several days of attacks from US journalists, commentators,
pro-Israel groups and others, including members of her own Democratic
Party, who accused her of anti-Semitism.

Jewish-
and Muslim-American activists came
to her defence,
however, saying Omar never said anything anti-Semitic.

Democratic presidential contenders Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and
Elizabeth Warren also
issued statements denouncing
Islamophobic attacks against Omar and highlighting the distinction
between anti-Semitism and criticism of Israel.

On
her show on Saturday, Pirro said Omar did not get her “anti-Israel
sentiment” from the Democratic Party.

“Think
about this, she’s not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine
from the Democrat Party, so if it’s not rooted in the party, where
is she getting it from? Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which
according to the Quran 33:59 tells women to cover so they won’t get
molested,” she said in the segment.

“Is
her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to
sharia law? Which in itself is antithetical to the United States
Constitution?”

The
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Sunday called for
Pirro to be fired.

“Such
an open and un-American expression of religious bigotry should be
rejected by any media outlet seeking even a modicum of credibility,”
said the group’s national executive director, Nihad Awad, in a
statement.

“Jeanine
Pirro should be fired, and Fox News should apologise to its viewing
audience.”

In
a statement of her own, responding to the criticism, Pirro said she
“did not call Rep. Omar un-American”.

“My
intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course
because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the
Constitution,” she said, as reported by US media outlets.

Socialisme
begint de laatste jaren wat hipper te worden, als ik het hieronder
opgenomen artikel van Alan MacLeod op Fair moet geloven en weet je
wat: het zou best kunnen kloppen, vandaar misschien de belangstelling
voor de jessias van ‘GroenLinks’ Klaver…… Jammer dat die jonge
mensen dan niet zien dat ze een reuzen oor aangenaaid krijgen door
deze valse ‘linkse’ profeet, een ‘profeet’ van een partij die allesbehalve links is
en zich net zo hard laat meeslepen door de de leugens van de CIA en de reguliere massamedia….. 

‘GroenLinks’ een partij die maar al te vaak instemt met maatregelen die een linkse en groene partij tegen de borst zouden moeten stuiten, zo staat deze partij achter het schunnige ‘sociale’ leenstelsel t.b.v. studenten…… Sterker nog: op provinciaal en lokaal gebied draait GL gewoon mee als onderdeel van het Nederlandse compromis baggerbestuur…..

Eén
ding is zeker: de reguliere westerse massamedia moeten niets van
links hebben, simpelweg daar hun bazen niets op hebben met links en
de bestaande neoliberale status quo gehandhaafd willen zien, waar ze zelfs de illegale oorlogen van de VS gesteund willen zien, niet in de laatste plaats daar men aandelen heeft in de wapenindustrie….. Wat
mooier als je tegen links bestuur bent dan als massamedia een cadeau als Venezuela door de VS in de
schoot geworpen te krijgen, Venezuela het door een economische oorlog van de VS
aan de grond geraakte land…. 

Met superlatieven spreekt men in die
media over de desastreuze economische politiek van het Maduro bewind,
alsof er nooit een economische oorlog heeft plaatsgevonden tegen
Venezuela, wat zeg ik, een oorlog die nog steeds plaatsvindt (nu met sancties
die zelfs door de EU zijn opgelegd…), terwijl zich een door de VS
opgezette opstand en staatsgreep voltrekt in dat land……

De BBC
liet zelfs een correspondent verklaren wat er op de straten in
Venezuela gebeurde, terwijl deze knurft in Miami zat….* (je
gelooft je oren niet….)

‘Venezuela’:
Media’s One-Word Rebuttal to the Threat of Socialism

Socialism—whatever
that means—is in vogue right now. A recent Gallup poll
(8/13/18)
found that a majority of millennials view socialism favorably,
preferring it to capitalism. Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders is
the most
popular politician
in the United States, while new leftist Rep. Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez’s (AOC) policies of higher taxes on the wealthy, free
healthcare and public college tuition are highly popular—even among
Republican voters (FAIR.org, 1/23/19).

Alarmed
by the growing threat of progressive policies at home, the
establishment has found a one-word weapon to deploy against the
rising tide: Venezuela. The trick is to attack any political figure
or movement even remotely on the left by claiming they wish to turn
the country into a “socialist wasteland” (Fox
News, 2/2/19)
run by a corrupt dictatorship, leaving its people hungry and
devastated.

Leading
the charge have been Fox
News and
other conservative outlets. One Fox opinion
piece (1/25/19)
claimed that Americans should be “absolutely disgusted” by the
“fraud” of Bernie Sanders and Democrats like Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, as they “continue
to promote a system that is causing mass starvation and the collapse
of a country,” warning that is exactly what their failed socialist
policies would bring to the US. (Back in the real world, while
Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez identify as socialists, Warren is a
self-described capitalist,
and Booker is noted for his ties to Wall Street, whose support for
his presidential bid he has reportedly been soliciting.)
A second Fox
Newsarticle
(1/27/19)
continues in the same vein, warning that, “At the heart of
Venezuela’s collapse is a laundry list of socialist policies that
have decimated its economy.”

In
an article entitled “Bernie Sanders, Jeremy Corbyn and the Starving
Children of Venezuela,” the Washington
Examiner (6/15/17)
warned its readers to “beware the socialist utopia,” describing
it as a dystopia where children go hungry thanks to socialism.
The Wall
Street Journal (1/28/19)
recently condemned Sanders for his support of a “dictator,”
despite the fact Bernie has strongly
criticized Venezuelan
President Nicolás Maduro, and dismissed Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo
Chavez, as a “dead Communist dictator” (Reuters, 6/1/16).

More
supposedly centrist publications have continued this line of attack.
The New
York Times’
Bret Stephens (1/25/19)
argued: “Venezuela is a socialist catastrophe. In the age of AOC,
the lesson must be learned again”—namely, that “socialism never
works,” as “20 years of socialism” has led to “the ruin of a
nation.” The Miami
Herald (2/1/19)
cast shame on Sanders and AOC for arguing for socialism in the face
of such overwhelming evidence against it, describing the left’s
refusal to back self-appointed president Juan Guaidó, someone
whom less
than 20 percent of
Venezuelans had even heard of, let alone voted for, as “morally
repugnant.”

This
useful weapon to be used against the left can only be sustained by
withholding a great number of key facts—chief among them, the US
role in Venezuela’s devastation. US sanctions, according to the
Venezuelan opposition’s economics czar, are responsible for a
halving of the country’s oil output (FAIR.org,12/17/18).
The UN Human Rights Council has formally
condemned the
US and discussed reparations to be paid, with one UN special
rapporteur describing Trump’s sanctions as a possible “crime
against humanity” (London Independent, 1/26/19).
This has not been reported by any the New
York Times, Washington
Post, CNN or
any other national US “resistance” news outlet, which have been
only too quick to support Trump’s regime change plans
(FAIR.org, 1/25/19).

Likewise,
the local US-backed opposition’s role in the economic crisis is
barely mentioned. The opposition, which controls much of the
country’s food supply, has officially
accepted responsibility for
conducting an “economic war” by withholding food and other key
goods.

For
example, the monolithic Empresas Polar controls
the majority of
the flour production and distribution crucial for
making arepa cornbread,
Venezuela’s staple food. Polar’s chair is Leopoldo Lopez,
national coordinator of Juan Guaidó’s Popular Will party, while
its president is Lorenzo Mendoza, who considered running for
president against Maduro in the 2018 elections that caused
pandemonium in the media (FAIR.org, 5/23/18).

Conspicuously,
it’s the products that Polar has a near-monopoly in that are often
in shortest
supply.
This is hardly a secret, but never mentioned in the copious stories
(CNN, 5/14/14, Bloomberg, 3/16/17, Washington
Post, 5/22/17, NPR, 4/7/17)
focusing on bread lines in the country.

Also
rarely commented on was the fact that multiple international
election observer missions declared the
2018 elections free and fair, and that Venezuelan government spending
as a proportion of GDP (often considered a barometer of socialism) is
actually lower than the US’s, and far lower than most of
Europe’s,according to
the conservative Heritage Foundation.

Regardless
of these bothersome facts, the media has continued to present
Venezuela’s supposedly socialist dictatorship as solely responsible
for its crisis as a warning to any progressives who get the wrong
idea. So useful is this tool that it is being used to attack
progressive movements around the world. The Daily
Express (2/3/19)
and Daily
Mail (2/3/19)
condemned UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn for his “defense”
of a “dictator,” while the Daily
Telegraph (2/3/19)
warned that the catastrophe of Venezuela is Labour’s blueprint for
Britain. Meanwhile, the Greek leftist party Syriza’s support for
Maduro (the official position of three-quarters of
UN member states) was condemned as “shameful”
(London Independent, 1/29/19).

“Venezuela”
is also used as a one-word response to shut down debate and counter
any progressive idea or thought. While the panel on ABC’s The
View (7/23/18)
discussed progressive legislation like Medicare for All and
immigration reform, conservative regular Meghan McCain responding by
invoking Venezuela: “They’re starving to death” she explained,
leaving the other panelists bemused.

President
Trump has also used it. In response to criticism from Senator
Elizabeth Warren over his “Pocahontas” jibe, he replied that she
would “make our country into Venezuela” (Reuters, 10/15/18).

The
weapon’s effectiveness can only be sustained through a media in
lockstep with the government’s regime-change goals. That the media
is fixated on the travails of a relatively small and unimportant
country in America’s “backyard,” and that the picture of
Venezuela is so shallow, is not a mistake. Rather, the simplistic
narrative of a socialist dictatorship starving its own people
provides great utility as a weapon for the establishment to beat back
the domestic “threat” of socialism, by associating movements and
figures such as Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jeremy
Corbyn with an evil caricature they have carefully crafted.

Het
is zonder meer een schande dat de VS middels drones ‘standrechtelijk’ al duizenden mensen heeft
vermoord, waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens als verdacht te boek stond, dus veelal vrouwen en kinderen……. Deze gang van zaken kan niet anders dan als grootschalige terreur worden gezien!!

Nu
blijkt ook nog eens dat de beslissing om mensen op de VS moordlijst
te zetten, is gebaseerd op metadata, waar een algoritme diverse
(onzekere, ‘mysterieuze’) zaken bij elkaar zoekt, daarop wordt de beslissing genomen of deze persoon vermoord mag worden (uiteraard gebruikt
men het woord ‘moord’ niet, immers het moet allemaal legaal
lijken)……

Hoe
is het mogelijk dat de hele wereld toekijkt en amper of geen
commentaar levert op de massamoord, die buiten elke rechtsgang om
wordt gepleegd…… Als er al kritiek wordt geleverd is dit door
landen als Pakistan, waar de VS mensen uitschakelt en zoals gewoonlijk zonder de
regering te waarschuwen……

Hoe
is het mogelijk dat het Internationaal Strafhof toekijkt terwijl de
VS de zoveelste massamoord begaat…. Deze executies staan buiten
elke fatsoenlijke rechtspraak, je kan dan ook gerust stellen dat de
VS niet langer een rechtstaat is (dat is overigens al heel lang zo,
neem het meer dan achterlijke ‘plea bargain’ >> zelfs als je
niets hebt gedaan is het heel vaak aan te raden om schuld te bekennen
daar je anders een lange gevangenisstraf staat te wachten…..)

Dan
te bedenken dat Nederland desnoods zelfs eigen burgers uitzet naar de
VS……. Schande!!!

Het volgende artikel van Tom Emswiler en Will Isenberg werd eerder geplaatst op de ‘Boston Globe‘, hierin o.a. aandacht voor Bilal Abdul Kareem, een VS journalist die werkt in het Midden-Oosten, hij stelt dat de overheid hem wil vermoorden*. De schrijvers stellen dat de VS wetgeving moet maken waarmee het vermoorden van VS burgers wordt verboden, lullig dat ze niet zitten met het vermoorden van niet-VS burgers die worden verdacht in het buitenland…… Wat ongelofelijk kortzichtig……

Abdul Kareem, an American citizen, thinks the government is trying to
kill him. And he might be right.


Kareem’s
story, recently
chronicled in
Rolling Stone, neatly captures the havoc that the war on terror has
wreaked on the legal system and the dangers of abandoning legal
traditions that have served us well for centuries.

Kareem
resides overseas and is struggling to determine why he is apparently
on the government’s secret “kill list,” which targets terror
suspects for drone strikes. Kareem finds that objects in his vicinity
tend to explode with some frequency, and he has taken the issue to
court, arguing that the American government cannot blow him up
without due process.

Unfortunately,
the federal judiciary so far has largely removed itself from this
process by declaring the criteria for the kill list to be a political
question outside the purview of judges. Kareem’s case continues to
make its way through the courts, but lawmakers shouldn’t punt their
responsibilities to the judiciary.

Congress
should act, and pass a law that protects American citizens from
extrajudicial killing by banning the executive branch from targeting
American citizens for assassination. Further, here in Massachusetts
and elsewhere, every candidate running for federal office should
clearly state their position on the executive branch’s assumed
authority to impose a unilateral death sentence on their potential
constituents.

Why
does it matter if a person is American if that person may be
dangerous? Setting aside whether you trust the government’s
criteria for designating someone a terrorist, the reason is that each
of us is entitled to due process. That’s a phrase most Americans
are probably familiar with, but few outside the legal community could
define.

Due
process is the right to be informed and the opportunity to be
meaningfully heard before the government deprives you as a citizen of
life, liberty, or property. The right to due process is granted to
Americans by the Fifth and 14th Amendments. It is a cloak that
swathes Americans in a wide range of protections, from requiring
access to an attorney when a citizen is accused of a criminal offense
to a period of public comment before an agency changes a policy.

Yet,
shockingly, the basic right to be notified and heard regarding a
death sentence is denied to all Americans residing outside our
states, territories, military bases, and embassies. The government
cannot convict you of trespassing without informing you of the charge
— but it can arm a drone with a missile and shoot at you, even
absent any evidence that you pose an imminent threat, based on
criteria it refuses to make public.

The
policy of using drones to kill American citizens developed under
President Barack Obama, most notably with his administration’s 2011
killing of American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki. Democrats who might have
criticized George W. Bush or Donald Trump for that constitutional
violation stayed mum then and have since continued their silence.

To
be sure, the evidence against al-Awlaki is damning — that he
inspired both the Fort Hood shooter and the Boston Marathon bombing,
among other crimes. But like a domestic killer, al-Awlaki deserved a
day in court. The Obama administration denied this citizen due
process.

While
the criteria for determining who’s on the kill list are classified,
those determinations appear be automated. The former head of the
National Security Agency and CIA stated flatly in 2014: “We kill
people based on metadata.” An algorithm collates a series of
mystery factors and decides whether someone is a terrorist, and
whether that person should be killed. Call it death by Spotify.

Sound
extreme? Maybe. We don’t know. You don’t know. No judge, jury, or
lawmaker, for that matter, seems to know. Americans and two out of
three branches of our government don’t know who’s on the list,
and that must end.

Sadly,
politicians from both parties have been deafeningly silent on this
issue of extrajudicial killings.

In
2013, Republican Senator Rand Paul filibustered the CIA director’s
nomination to protest drone strikes against Americans on American
soil (an event that has never happened). Paul has since offered
conflicting positions on the issue of targeted assassination of
Americans overseas.

Senator
Elizabeth Warren has spoken movingly about the high cost of civilian
casualties caused by drone strikes, but not the targeted killing of
American citizens or made her position on Obama’s extrajudicial
killing of al-Awlaki known.

Every
candidate running for president, senator, or representative should be
questioned about whether they support extrajudicial killing of
citizens and, if not, what they intend to do about it.

The
right to due process has been a bedrock of the judicial system, and
one of the pillars that support a free society going back eight
centuries to the Magna Carta. It is the birthright of every American.

Gaining
a tactical advantage is not worth losing that heritage. To every
candidate running for Congress right now, we should ask: Are you
comfortable with secret kill lists and extrajudicial executions? Our
fellow Americans: Are you?
