zwellen……

Onbegrijpelijk dat men deze
Frankenstein experimenten toestaat…..

Yale
Study: Wild Mosquitoes Retained Genes of Genetically Modified
Mosquitoes

(AP) — In
Brazil a genetic engineering test of mosquitoes appears to have
failed, with genes from the mutant mosquitoes now mixing with the
native population,
Nature reported.
This comes as mad scientists in the U.S. are finding they are getting
bitten back by messing with nature after running their own program to
genetically modify mosquitoes.

The
experiment involved a company called Oxitec which took male
Aedes
aegypti
 mosquitoes
and genetically engineered them to have a dominant lethal gene. The
idea was first proposed in 2016,
according to
an article by
Science
Magazine
 that
discussed the plans to release the GM insects.

According
to the hypothesis when the genetically modified mosquitoes mated with
wild female mosquitoes, the gene was supposed to drastically cut down
the number of offspring they produced. Further, the few that were
born should have been too weak to survive a long period of time.

A
team of Yale students then studied the genomes of both the GM strain
and the wild species before the release, then again six, 12 and 27 to
30 months after the release began.

Around
450,000 modified males were released in Jacobina, Brazil every week
for 27 months straight, totaling tens of millions,
according to
the Yale study.

Sure
enough, by the end of the test there was clear evidence that genes
from the transgenic insects had been incorporated into the wild
population. Although the GM mosquitoes only produce offspring about
three to four percent of the time, it seems that those that are born
aren’t as weak as expected. Some appear to make it to adulthood and
breed themselves.

In
theory, if the experiment worked it would have cut down the
population of mosquitoes in an area estimated up to as much as 85
percent. This of course if successful would translate to fewer
bug-borne diseases, like — dengue, yellow fever, Zika, and malaria
in humans and animals alike.

However,
that’s not what the final results were according to Yale
University. Yale explains that some of the native bugs, they found,
had surprisingly retained genes from the engineered mosquitoes; and
even worse, the experiments made them more resilient.

According
to
New
Atlas
 there
are now three different strains of mosquitoes mixed together in
Jacobina and other places of Brazil.

The
bugs in the area are now made up of three strains mixed together: the
original Brazilian locals, plus strains from Cuba and Mexico – the
two strains crossed to make the GM insects. This wider gene pool
could make the mozzies more robust as a whole.

The
claim was that genes from the release strain would not get into the
general population because offspring would die,’’ Jeffrey Powell,
senior author of the study said. “That obviously was not what
happened.”

Other
researchers released genetically modified (GM) mosquitoes in a
controlled environment, into a high-security laboratory in Terni,
Italy earlier this year, NPR
reported.

Another
research firm called Target Malaria research consortium
also
released 6,400
GM mosquitoes in West Africa, Burkina Faso, this year, which
was
 condemned by
the Civil Society, a group of organizations. The tests were funded by
organisations linked to the Gates Foundation, Facebook, and –
indirectly – the Pentagon, as part of a project to eradicate
malaria,
The
Guardian
 reported.

The
release of GM mosquitoes in the village was an unethical experiment,
as Target Malaria acknowledges that there are no direct benefits to
the local population of this particular GM mosquito release, in terms
of malaria control. This was not an early stage trial of the GM
mosquitoes intended to be tested later for their impact on malaria,
but a release of an entirely different GM mosquito.

Thus,
there was no justification for making the releases. According to the
World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki, which is based
on the Nuremberg Code and outlines the internationally agreed ethical
principles for medical research involving human subjects, such
research “may only be conducted if the importance of the objective
outweighs the risks and burdens to the research subjects” (Article
16).

Indeed,
the release of the GM mosquito in Burkina Faso poses risks, including
the incidental release of some biting female GM mosquitoes during the
experiments.

While
Target Malaria claims that the number will be small, nevertheless,
since GM female mosquitoes can bite humans and spread disease, the
release of biting females still poses some risk to local people.[ii]

Yale’s
study is especially alarming because here in the U.S. the same
company Oxitec was
approved in
the U.S. by the Food Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016, to
genetically modify mosquitoes to fight against the Zika virus. This
trial allowed the release of mosquitoes in the state of Florida for
testing purposes in Key Haven, Monroe County.

Oxitec
also obtained funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to
develop the GM insects. It’s worth noting that Bill Gates
has
said just
this year that “mosquitoes are the number one killer.”

Gates
also released a swarm of mosquitoes on an unsuspecting audience
at a
TED
conference
 in
2009 to prove a point.

But
Oxitec’s experiments don’t end in the U.S. and Brazil, the lab
was also
approved to
release its hellish
X-Files like
mosquitoes in France and the Netherlands in 2017.

Christoph
Then for
TestBiotech commented
about the study
stating,

The
Oxitec trials have led to a situation that is largely out of control.
The company has released its patented insects although it was known
before that some insects could survive in the environment. The
expectations of their investors were more important than the
protection of health and the environment. There is no insurance and
no fast-track mechanism to prevent severe damage in a worst-case
scenario.

This
incident must have consequences for further applications of genetic
engineering. Preventing the spread of genetically engineered
organisms within natural populations has to become a priority.

Florida
isn’t the only state that we may have to worry about releasing GM
mosquitoes. In 2017 it was reported that the EPA officially
registered another company named MosquitoMate’s Asian Tiger
mosquito with a five-year license to sell their lab mosquitoes in as
many as 20 states,
Nature reported.

In
2017, that same year, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and
Prevention reported that mosquitoes carrying disease could invade as
much as 75% of America in a paper
published in
the
Journal
of Medical Entomology
.
Last year, the CDC stated that the number of illnesses caused by
mosquito, tick, and flea bites has tripled in the United States over
the last 13 years, CBS
reported.

It’s
of particular interest to express that a mosquito-borne virus that
causes brain swelling and can be fatal in humans was recently
detected in Florida, according to the
Florida
Department of Health
 in
Orange County. It may be a coincidence, but the research by Yale
indicates that it may not be, but this was after Florida released GM
mosquitoes in 2017-2018.

After
being bitten by an infected mosquito, it takes four to 10 days to
develop symptoms of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus, according
to the
Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention
 (CDC).
In severe cases involving brain inflammation, symptoms start with the
sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills, and vomiting. The
infection can then progress, causing disorientation, seizures, and
coma,
 Yahoo
News
 reported.

If
that’s not enough, in 2018, the first
reported mosquito-borne
disease called the Keystone virus was thought only to be transmitted
to animals, but jumped to infect humans according to doctors.

Where
there have been negative results, there have also been positive
results
achieved by
researchers at London’s Imperial College using “gene drive”
technology to successfully eradicate a whole population of
malaria-carrying mosquitoes in their lab by making the insects
infertile.

However,
as Hellen Wallace
wrote in Scientific
American
 in
2011, “the release of genetically modified (GM) insects should
follow a precautionary approach, because what appears well understood
in the lab can have unintended consequences when released on a large
scale into the environment.”

It’s
worth noting that this isn’t the first time that GM mosquitoes has
come into question in Brazil. In 2016, the
Mirror reported in
a brave headline: “Was Zika outbreak caused by release of
genetically modified mosquitoes in Brazil?”

The Mirror wrote
the following that mirrors Yale’s study.

The
Aedes aegypti mosquito sub-species that carries both the Zika virus
and dengue was the type targeted with genetically modified
mosquitoes.

The
aim was to release only male Aedes mosquitoes into the wild and they
would in turn produce offspring with their virus carrying female
counterparts.

This
offspring would then die off before breeding again due to the GM
coding in their genes.

Ironically,
the
Mirror further
noted that the first cases of Zika were seen in Brazil in 2016 with
“up to 1.5 million people thought to be affected by the virus”
after the first GM experiment.

Perhaps
screwing with nature isn’t the brightest of ideas as scientists
could inadvertently without knowledge or in the cases of government
programs —  like Project 112, Operations
Drop
Kick
,
Big Buzz, May Day, Whitecoat, Big Itch and Bellweather, be creating
or modifying deadly diseases that could haunt our future. As Sarah
Laskow writing for Atlas Obscura stated,
“While
Brazil Was Eradicating Zika Mosquitoes, America Made Them Into
Weapons.”

As Activist
Post
 reported in
July, United States House members expressed concern in a bipartisan
vote that the Pentagon may have unleashed biological weapons or
entomological warfare in the form of ticks or other insects that
caused the spread of Lyme disease. So what’s stopping anyone from
maliciously genetically modifying the ticks’ cousin mosquitoes as a
bioweapon? Not much.

If
you are concerned about being bitten by mosquitoes, the CDC
recommends to avoid being bitten you should wear long-sleeved shirts
and trousers, stay in places with air conditioning or that use window
and door screens, use insect repellents approved by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), and treat your clothing with an insecticide.

gaan…

De
manier waarop deze bedrijven e.e.a. doen is ernstige volksverlakkerij, zo

Zo

How
the Plastics Industry Is Fighting to Keep Polluting the World

UNSPECIFIED: In this illustration taken on May 30, 2019 a selection of plastics is displayed that were found, on May 26, 2019, within a few metres on Mothecombe Beach at the mouth of the Erme Estuary in South Devon. At a glance Mothecombe, appears a spotless white sandy beach, but looking closely reveals a plethora of degraded micro plastic detritus woven into and buried beneath the seaweed, an important feeding ground for wading birds. Indistinguishable pieces of plastic, tin cans, fishing wires, hooks, and fragments of clothing materials were all found. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), at current rates of pollution, there will likely be more plastic in the sea than fish by 2050. In December 2017 Britain joined the other 193 UN countries and signed up to a resolution to help eliminate marine litter and microplastics in the sea. It is estimated that about eight million metric tons of plastic find their way into the world's oceans every year, and that between 1.15 million to 2.41 million tonnes of plastic are entering the ocean each year from rivers. Once in the Ocean plastic can take hundreds of years to degrade, all the while breaking down into smaller and smaller 'microplastics,' which can be consumed by marine animals, and find their way into the human food chain. THE
STUDENTS AT
 Westmeade
Elementary School worked hard on their dragon. And it paid off. The
plastic bag receptacle that the kids painted green and outfitted with
triangular white teeth and a “feed me” sign won the students from
the Nashville suburb first place in a recycling box decorating
contest. The idea, as Westmeade’s proud principal told a
local
TV news
 show,
was to help the environment. But the real story behind the dragon —
as with much of the escalating war over plastic waste — is
more complicated.

The
contest was sponsored by
A
Bag’s Life
,
a recycling promotion and education effort of the American
Progressive Bag Alliance, a lobbying group that fights restrictions
on plastic. That organization is part of the Plastics Industry
Association, a trade group that includes Shell Polymers,
LyondellBasell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron Phillips, DowDuPont, and Novolex
— all of which profit hugely from the continued production of
plastics. And even as A Bag’s Life was encouraging kids
to spread the uplifting message of cleaning up plastic waste, its
parent organization, the American Progressive Bag Alliance, was
backing a state
bill that
would strip Tennesseans of their ability to address the plastics
crisis. The legislation would make it illegal for local governments
to ban or restrict bags and other single-use plastic products — one
of the few things
shownto
actually reduce plastic waste.

A
week after Westmeade’s dragon won the contest, the APBA got its own
reward: The plastic preemption bill passed the Tennessee state
legislature. Weeks later, the governor signed it into law,
throwing
a wrench
 into
an effort underway in Memphis to charge a fee for plastic bags.
Meanwhile, A Bag’s Life gave the Westmeade kids who worked on the
bag monster a $100 gift card to use “as they please.” And
with that, a minuscule fraction of its vast wealth, the plastics
industry applied a green veneer to its increasingly bitter and
desperate fight to keep profiting from a product that is polluting
the world.

A
Bag’s Life is just one small part of a massive, industry-led effort
now underway to suppress meaningful efforts to reduce plastic waste
while keeping the idea of recycling alive. The reality of plastics
recycling? It’s pretty much already dead. In 2015, the U.S.
recycled about 9 percent of its plastic waste, and since then the
number has dropped even lower. The vast majority of the 8.3 billion
metric tons of plastic ever produced —
79
percent
 —
has ended up in landfills or scattered all around the world. And as
for those plastic shopping bags the kids were hoping to contain: Less
than 1 percent of the tens of
billions of
plastic bags used in the U.S. each year are recycled.

This
is not to say that we shouldn’t try to properly dispose of the
array of toys, single-use clamshells, bottles, bags, takeout
containers, iced coffee cups, straws, sachets, yogurt tubs, pouches,
candy bar wrappers, utensils, chip bags, toiletry tubes, electronics,
and lids for everything that passes through our lives daily. We have
to. But we are well past the point where the heartfelt efforts of
schoolchildren or anyone else on the consumer end can solve the
plastics problem. It no longer matters how many hoots we give. There
is already way too much plastic that won’t decompose and ultimately
has nowhere to go, whether it’s mashed into a dragon container or
not.

A Chinese worker labors in front of high piles of plastic bottles at the plastic bottle recycling station, which trapped a man, in Ji'nan city, east China's Shandong province, 4 May 2017.

China’s
National Sword

China’s
decision in 2017 to stop receiving the vast majority of plastic waste
from other countries blew the flimsy lid off our dysfunctional
recycling system. That year, when the Chinese government announced
the National Sword policy, as it’s called, the U.S. sent 931
million kilograms of plastic waste to China and Hong Kong. The U.S.
has been offloading vast bundles of scrap this way since at least
1994, when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began tracking
plastics exports. The practice has served to both mask the mounting
crisis and absolve U.S. consumers of guilt. But in fact, much of the
“recycled” plastic scrap that the U.S. sent to China
appears to
have been burned or buried instead of being refashioned into new
products.

Although
China’s turnabout made the failure of the plastics recycling system
suddenly and undeniably obvious, in truth the plastics problem has
been with us as long as plastic has. Over the decades, as
production has grown exponentially, we’ve never managed
to repurpose even one-tenth of our plastic waste. Since the EPA began
tracking plastics recycling in 1994, when the U.S. recycled less than
5 percent, the rate went up only about 5 percent, peaking at 9.5
percent in 2014.

Although
there is no data before 1994, the rate was almost certainly even
lower then. Some of that failure can be blamed on careless consumers,
but much of the waste that is dutifully put into recycling bins and
bags also gets landfilled and burned because there’s no market for
it.

The
plastics problem has been growing exponentially for decades. In 1967,
when Dustin Hoffman’s character in “The Graduate” was being
advised to go into plastics, less than 25 million tons were produced
each year. Even back then, the companies that made the plastic
were
already aware
 of
the growing waste problem. Yet by 1980, production had doubled. Ten
years later, it doubled again to 100 million tons, surpassing the
amount of steel produced globally. Today, the plastics industry,
estimated to be worth more than $4 trillion, generates more than 300
million tons of plastic a year according to the most recent
records — nearly half of which is for single-use items, meaning
that it will almost instantly become trash.

With
the institution of China’s new policy in January 2018, the extent
of the plastic waste crisis became dramatically more visible. Around
the world, bales of used plastic that just a year earlier would have
been destined for China began
piling
up
.
In the U.S., some cities have
stopped
their plastics recycling
 programs
altogether.

Without
good alternatives, the U.S. is now
burning six
times the amount of plastic it’s recycling — even though the
incineration process releases cancer-causing pollutants into the air
and creates toxic ash, which also needs to be disposed of somewhere.
And poor people are stuck with the worst consequences of the plastics
crisis.
Eight
out of 10
 incinerators
in the U.S. are in communities that are either poorer or have fewer
white people than the rest of the country, and
residents living
near them are exposed to the toxic air pollution their combustion
produces.

Globally,
too, the problem is being dumped on the less fortunate and less
powerful. Because the U.S. can no longer ship its plastic waste to
China, much of that waste is going to Turkey, Senegal, and other
countries that are ill-equipped to deal with it. In May, the most
recent month for which data is available, the U.S. sent 64.9 million
kilograms of plastic scrap to 58 countries. Thailand, India, and
Indonesia — where more than 80 percent of waste is mismanaged,
according to
data published
in Science — are among the
countries that
now find themselves
besieged with
U.S. plastic that’s being illegally
dumped
and burned
.

All
the Plastics in the Seas

The
terrifying news about plastic seems to be as inescapable as the
plastic itself, tiny bits of which are now almost
everywhere. One
study found these “microplastics” in the
Pyrenees
mountain air
 100
miles from the nearest city.
Another found
that microplastics are being turned into sewage sludge and spread on
fields that grow food. And, as we know from the plastic-filled whales
that regularly
wash
up dead
,
the oceans are awash in plastic waste and now contain some 150
million tons of the stuff — a mass expected soon to surpass the
weight of all the fish in the seas.

We
humans also have plastic lodged in our
bodies.
The substance often sold to us as protection from contamination is in
both
food and
water.

Bottled
water, sales of which are
increasing in
part because people are seeking alternatives to contaminated local
water supplies, now
contains
plastic as well. A
2018
study
 found
that 93 percent of bottled water samples contained microplastics.
While all the big brands tested positive for microplastics, the worst
was Nestlé Pure Life, which
claims that its
water “goes through a 12-step quality process, so you can
trust every drop.”

It’s
worth noting that in both
2017 and 2018,
Nestlé ranked in the top three among brands whose plastic trash was
most often collected in global cleanup efforts conducted by the
environmental group Break Free From Plastic.

The
confluence of terrible news has taken public outrage over plastic to
a new level. Once regarded mostly as an eyesore or a nuisance,
plastic waste is now widely understood to be a cause of
species
extinction
ecological
devastation
,
and
human
health problems
.
And because more than 99 percent of plastic is derived from oil,
natural gas, and coal — and because its destruction also uses
fossil fuels — environmental groups now recognize plastic as a
major contributor to
climate
change
.
Naturalist
David
Attenborough
 has
likened the shift in public opinion over plastics to the process
through which the public reached a consensus on the harms of slavery.

Between
extraction, refining, and waste management, the production and
incineration of plastics will add more than 850 million metric tons
of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere this year alone — an amount
equal to the emissions from 189 500-megawatt coal power plants,
according to a
report from
the Center for International Environmental Law.

Recycled
plastics — once seen as a sign of environmental virtue — is
increasingly recognized as posing threats to our health. Plastics
contain additives that determine its properties, including stability,
color, and flexibility. Most of the thousands of these
chemicals
aren’t
regulated
,
but it’s clear that some of those additives, which end up in
recycled plastics, are dangerous. One
studyfound
that half of recycled plastics in India contained a
flame
retardant

associated with neurological, reproductive, and developmental harms.

Black
plastic, used in everything from
children’s
toys
 to kitchen
utensils
,
food packaging, cellphone cases, and thermoses, appears to be
particularly dangerous. The plastic is often sourced from recycled
electronics that contain phthalates,
flame
retardants
,
and heavy metals, such as cadmium, lead, and mercury. Even at very
low levels, these chemicals can
cause serious
reproductive and developmental problems.

But
most of the additives aren’t tracked or well studied. “The
industry has no idea what they’re putting in the plastic and who’s
putting it in,” said Andrew Turner, a British chemist who recently
found toxic chemicals in 40 percent of the black plastic toys,
thermoses, cocktail
stirrers,
and utensils he
tested.
In some plastic, he found the chemicals present at 30 times safety
standards set by governments.

Even
chemicals that are regulated often have limits set for electronics
but not for recycled products. “You’ve got something that
wouldn’t be compliant with the regulations as an electric item
because its levels are too high, but because it’s turned into a
fork, there’s nothing to stop it from being used,” Turner said.
Antimony, which Turner found in food containers, toys, and office
supplies, “is restricted in drinking water, but not in electrical
waste.” Turner and Zhanyun Wang, another scientist I spoke with who
studies chemical additives to plastics, told me that they no longer
use black plastic utensils. “Given the option, I’d prefer
something white or clear,” said Turner, adding that he tries to
avoid utensils made of any kind of plastic.

The
solution to this global mess clearly has to be much bigger than
personal cutlery choices. Among the organizations demanding that we
push past the idea of recycling and require corporations to limit
plastics production are
Greenpeace,
the
Surfrider
Foundation
As
You Sow
,
the
Rainforest
Alliance
 and 5Gyres,
an organization started by a couple who sailed across the Pacific
Ocean on a raft made out of discarded bottles. Fueled by a spike in
consumer frustration with products that make them complicit in the
problem, plastic-free
restaurants and grocery
stores
 are
now emerging.

Taxes,
bans, and fees on plastic products have been catching on around the
world. In March, the European Union voted to
ban single-use
plastics by 2021. In June, Canada followed suit, with Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau
vowing to
not just ban single-use plastics such as bags, straws, and cutlery,
but also to hold plastics manufacturers responsible for their waste.
One hundred and forty-one countries, including China, Bangladesh,
India, and 34
African
countries
,
have implemented taxes or partial bans on plastics.

In
the U.S., the Trump administration
has
worked against international efforts
 to
crack down on plastic waste, so cities and towns are leading the way.
While only eight states have enacted plastic restrictions, more than
330 local plastic bag ordinances have passed in 24 states. Some
federal lawmakers have also recognized that federal action is
necessary to beat back the mounting tide of plastic. “Plastics
recycling is not a realistic solution to the plastic pollution
crisis. Most consumer plastics are economically impractical to
recycle based on market conditions alone,” Rep. Alan Lowenthal
and Sen. Tom Udall wrote in a
letter to
President Donald Trump in June, noting that the “spread of
single-use plastic products has led to widespread pollution of
plastic in the U.S. and has caused a growing financial burden on
state agencies, local governments and taxpayers for remediation.”

Big
Plastic Fights Back

Even
the executives at a recent plastics industry conference admit how bad
the crisis is — at least to one another. All we hear is “you’ve
got to get rid of plastics,” Garry Kohl, of PepsiCo, said to his
fellow members of the Plastics Industry Association at a conference
in April. Gathered in the gilded ballroom of a Dallas hotel, the
representatives of big plastics manufacturers, recyclers, raw
materials providers, extruders, brand owners, and others in the
plastics business grappled aloud about their role in the crisis.
Especially difficult, said Kohl, who directs packaging innovation of
PepsiCo’s snacks and foods, was the widely circulated picture of a
dead plastic-filled
albatross.
“This is very emotional for our senior leaders,” Kohl said, as
the now iconic picture of the albatross — really just a few
feathers and a decaying beak arranged around an assortment of bottle
caps, lighter parts, and plastic bits — flashed above him. “They’re
all talking about the albatross.”

Patty
Long, interim president and chief executive officer of the Plastics
Industry Association, the group that convened the Texas meeting, also
acknowledged the pain of being the public face of an industry held
responsible for the devastation of the natural world. Long admitted
that she squirmed her way through another social media phenomenon
that, along with the albatross, has changed the course of the war
over plastics: the
video of
the sea turtle with a plastic straw jammed in its nostril. Long isn’t
the only one. Since it was posted in 2015, the eight excruciating
minutes in which marine biologists yank at the plastic straw with
pliers while the creature squirms and bleeds, has been viewed 36
million times.

In this Nov. 2, 2014 photo provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a black footed albatross chick with plastics in its stomach lies dead on Midway Atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The remote atoll where thousands died is now a delicate sanctuary for millions of seabirds. Midway sits amid a collection of man-made debris called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Along the paths of Midway, there are piles of feathers with rings of plastic in the middle - remnants of birds that died with the plastic in their guts. Each year the agency removes about 20 tons of plastic and debris that washes ashore from surrounding waters.

BREAKING:
Trump green lights GMO foods

President
Trump gave genetically engineered organisms (GMOs) a free pass this
week when
he
signed an executive order directing federal agencies to scale back on
regulations of these toxic crops and foods.
This
could allow new GMO foods and animals to be grown and brought to
market without any testing, oversight, or scientific review!

But
just because Trump orders the deregulation of GMOs does not mean that
it’s a done deal. EPA, FDA, and USDA have to make any changes to
the GMO regulations that Trump wants available to the public, and
that’s where we come in. Center for Food Safety (CFS) will be
vigilant in tracking these changes and fight to halt every one of
these illegal actions in court.

Can
you help CFS’s legal and science teams prevent the mass approvals
of untested GMO crops and foods by becoming a monthly donor?

Under
this new executive order, any new GMO crops or animals—such as GMO
pigs—could appear in the supermarket without having gone through
any federal scientific review for potential environmental or human
health harms. With this order (which is a boon to pesticide and GMO
corporations such as Bayer/Monsanto and Dow/Dupont), Trump is showing
his complete disregard for farmers, human health, and the
environment.

The
good news is, we’re confident that we can right this wrong.
 For
more than two decades, CFS has successfully stopped dozens of new GMO
crops and animals, including GMO wheat, rice, tomatoes, and many
others. We’re already in court fighting GMO crops that rely on
toxic pesticides such as dicamba and 2,4-D (a chemical component of
Agent Orange).
Help
us challenge Trump’s irresponsible actions by supporting CFS today!

The
executive order would also enlist government agencies in a “domestic
engagement” campaign to further deceive and confuse the public
about the true nature of GMOs. It also includes an “international
outreach” component to force other countries to accept GMOs that
they don’t want!

This
move from the Trump administration comes just one week after the USDA
issued a proposed rule to sharply limit and weaken the regulation of
GMOs that fall under its jurisdiction. CFS is prepared to challenge
this newly proposed rule which is now set to exclude the majority of
GMO crops from any regulation whatsoever.

In
addition to our lawsuits to stop the newest hazardous GMOs and their
companion pesticides, CFS has also sued the FDA to reverse its
irresponsible approval of genetically engineered salmon in order to
prevent its certain escape and resulting havoc on native salmon.
We’ve also petitioned the government to protect the iconic monarch
butterfly from the GMO-driven use of glyphosate, which kills the
monarch’s host plant.

As
always, CFS is your first line of defense against GMO foods and
pesticides.
Because
this work is ongoing, please chip in today to help us challenge new
GMO crops and stop Trump’s latest attempt to poison our food and
farmlands.

Thank
you for standing with us!

is….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

New
Roundup-Cancer Lawsuit Exposes Cozy Relationship Between Monsanto and
EPA

A
third lawsuit related to claims that Monsanto’s Roundup causes
cancer has revealed new details about the cozy relationship between
the biotech giant and U.S. regulators.

(TMU— On
Monday, Monsanto Co. corporate spokesman William Reeves admitted the
corporation has regularly communicated with U.S. regulatory agencies
regarding reviews of the controversial Roundup herbicide. Reeves
denied that Monsanto had given the agencies orders to follow. Reeves’
testimony came about during the latest lawsuit against biotech giant
Monsanto, as Alva and Alberta Pilliod fight to prove that
Roundup caused their cancer.

The
Pilliods are both living with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after spraying the
herbicide Roundup on their properties for nearly 30 years. The
septuagenarian couple were diagnosed with the most common form
of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, in 2011 and
2015.

Now
the couple is seeking damages related to their use of Roundup after
recent studies have linked the world’s most popular herbicide to
cancer.

Courthouse
News

reported
on the latest developments in the case:

Attorney
Brent Wisner, representing plaintiffs Alva and Alberta Pilliod,
played video testimony of Monsanto corporate spokesman William Reeves
in court Monday, in which he acknowledged Monsanto executives had
exchanged text messages with regulators who sat on a U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency committee that found glyphosate, the
main ingredient in Roundup, is not carcinogenic for humans. The
Pilliods’ legal team hopes these email and text exchanges will be
enough evidence of collusion between Monsanto and the EPA to delay a
review by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry,
a public health agency connected to the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention.”

The
text messages show that on June 18, 2015, Monsanto scientist Eric
Sachs sent a text message to former EPA toxicologist Mary Manibusan,
looking for help finding a contact in the Agency for Toxic
Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). Sachs was looking to
communicate with someone in relation to the agency’s ongoing work
developing a toxicological profile of glyphosate, Roundup’s main
ingredient. The ATSDR had begun working on the profile after the
World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research
concluded that glyphosate was “
probably
carcinogenic to humans
.”

(foto van The Mind Unleashed)

In
another text, Manibusan told Dan Jenkins, Monsanto’s liaison to
U.S. regulatory agencies like the EPA, that he may need help “
trying
to do everything we can to keep from having a domestic IARC occur
with this group,

in reference to the ATSDR. By June 23, 2015, Jenkins wrote to his
Monsanto colleagues alerting them that Jack Housenger, director of
EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs, would put a hold on the
report.  “
ATSDR
Director and Branch Chief have promised Jack Housenger (Director of
the US Office of Pesticide Programs) to put their report ‘on hold’
until after EPA releases its preliminary risk assessment (PRA) for
glyphosate
,”
Jenkins wrote.

When
questioned about these texts by the Pilliods’ lawyers, Reeves
confirmed the text messages were authentic, but stated, “
I
never heard anyone at the EPA say they were going to tell ATSDR what
to do
.”

The
testimony from Reeves comes a week after Dr. Dennis Weisenburger
testified that years of spraying Roundup likely caused the Pilliods’
lymphoma. Dr. Weisenburger testified that Alberta used Roundup an
estimated 279 times, and Al 729 times—both without wearing
protective equipment.“
It’s
not a hard call
,”
Weisenburger said on the witness stand, stating that using Roundup
more than two days per year doubles the risk of developing
non-Hodgkin lymphoma. “
It’s
the intensity of exposure that’s more important than the length
.”

The
Pilliods’ trial is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks, with
Monsanto’s lawyers beginning their cross examination next week.

The
case is the third lawsuit brought against Monsanto in the last two
years. In 2018, a California jury found that Monsanto’s Roundup
contributed to cancer in DeWayne Johnson, a former school
groundskeeper. In that case, evidence of corporate misconduct played
a key role in the jury’s decision. In August 2018, Johnson was
awarded $289 million after a jury found that Monsanto failed to
notify him and other consumers of the dangers of Roundup.

Additionally,
jury
in San Francisco recently found
 that
Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer played a significant role in
contributing to 70-year old Edwin Hardeman’s cancer.
Hardeman used Roundup on his 56-acre Sonoma County property for
decades before he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in
2015. The unanimous verdict concluded a trial that may
determine the future of thousands of similar lawsuits filed against
biotechnology giant Monsanto.

=====================================

* Onlangs werd na onderzoek in de VS vastgesteld dat werkelijk iedereen in meer of mindere mate glyfosaat heeft opgeslagen in het lichaam (hetzelfde geldt overigens voor microplastics, al is dit het geval bij de hele wereldbevolking…….). Overigens gezien die vaststelling over glyfosaat, dit ook voor de bevolking in vele andere landen geldt, neem alleen al het enorme gebruik van glyfosaat in de EU landbouw, waar zoals gezegd ‘GroenLinks’ EU grofgraaier Eickhout een voorstander was van langer gebruik van dit kankerverwekkende gif…….

Zoals in

Toxic
Weed Killer Found in Almost All Beer and Wine Brands (Including
Organic)

February
26, 2019 at 9:40 pm

Written
by
Elias
Marat

(TMU) —
Most of the food that we eat makes a long and tortuous journey to our
tables, often over great distances or from unknown origins.

Whether
it’s factory-farmed eggs, processed chicken, fresh fruit from the
west coast, seafood from the east coast, or a glass of wine or
ice-cold beer, we often assume that what we’re eating is generally
healthy or at least won’t harm us if enjoyed in moderation.

However,
new
report
 by
public-interest watchdog group U.S. PIRG has revealed that most of
the top beers and wines in the United States are contaminated with
glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s weed killer, Roundup.

Roundup
is a controversial herbicide that has been linked to cancer and other
health problems in studies by the World Health Organization and the
State of California, among others. In recent years,
thousands
of people
 have
blamed Monsanto for being a key contributor to their cancer, leading
to calls across the world for the weed-killer to be banned.

The
advocacy group tested five wines and fifteen beers. The beer brands
tested included top-sellers Budweiser, Coors, Miller Lite, Sam Adams,
Samuel Smith Organic, and New Belgium. The wine brands tested
included Beringer, Barefoot and Sutter Home.

Out
of the 20 brands tested, glyphosate was found in 19 of them –
including in 3 out of 4 organic beers and wines.

Among
the beverages with the highest concentration of glyphosate was 2018
Sutter Home Merlot at 51.4 parts per billion (pbb) and Tsingtao, a
beer from China, with 49.7 pbb – a rather high level when compared
with the U.S. beer with the largest amount, which was Coors Light at
31.1 pbb.

Organic
beverages like 2016 Inkarri Malbec lagged behind at 5.3 pbb while
2017 Samuel Smith Lager had 5.7 pbb.

In
a statement, organic winery Frey Vineyards noted that while it
refrains from the use of both herbicides and pesticides,
glyphosate
in trace amounts is now found in rainwater because of its application
to conventionally farmed agricultural land. Glyphosate in trace
amounts can be found in many food products across the United States.
We urge consumers to speak up to ban all use of glyphosate.”

Peak
Organic IPA was the sole adult beverage that had no trace of the
likely carcinogen.

The
group warned that while the level of contamination isn’t
necessarily deadly, the discovery raises potential health concerns.

The
report noted:

The
levels of glyphosate we found are not necessarily dangerous, but are
still concerning given the potential health risks. What is surprising
is that glyphosate found its way into almost every type of beer and
wine tested, including organic products. That indicates that
consumers who want to avoid glyphosate, due to its probably health
effects, would have a difficult time doing so. Considering the
ubiquity of glyphosate found in many foods tested by other scientists
and groups, and the amount of glyphosate sprayed throughout the
country, people are constantly exposed to glyphosate.”

While
industry representatives have sought to minimize the report in media
statements to
USA
Today
,
PIRG stressed that it remains important for consumers to understand
the potential danger of imbibing pesticides on a regular basis.

Kara
Cook-Schultz of the U.S. PIRG Education Fund, who also authored the
study, noted:

No
matter the efforts of brewers and vintners, we found that it is
incredibly difficult to avoid the troubling reality that consumers
will likely drink glyphosate at every happy hour and backyard
barbecue around the country.”

The
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for its part, has
fiercely defended the use of glyphosates, telling
USA
Today
 in
an email that it
found
no meaningful risks to human health, including infants and children,
when the product is used according to the pesticide label,”
and
that it has concluded at this stage that the herbicide is
not
likely to be carcinogenic”
 to
humans.

The
EPA’s conclusion is sharply at odds with that reached by the World
Health Organization, which
found
glyphosate to be a probable carcinogen
 in
2015 – a conclusion that the State of California
concurred with
in 2017. Monsanto has tried to appeal the case paving the way for its
legal liability, along with parent company
Bayer,
in thousands of lawsuits where consumers and farmers have blamed
Roundup for their incurable cancer.

In
October, the first court trial over Roundup’s link to cancer ended
with a victory for groundskeeper DeWayne Johnson, who was diagnosed
with terminal cancer at the age of 42 due to the herbicide. Now 46,
Johnson will be paid $78 million, but
may
not live long enough
 to
receive the money.

And
starting Monday, a jury in San Francisco federal court began
the
first
federal case
 on
Roundup’s links to a 70-year-old man’s cancer, which may pave the
way for hundreds of similar cases. On its first day,
the
judge threatened
 to
“shut down” any discussion of Monsanto’s long track-record of
pressuring government regulators and manipulating cancer research.

Critics
have long accused Monsanto of using its wealth and power to force
regulators to declare glyphosate safe, including through
outright
collusion
 with
EPA officials who killed past investigations by the agency.

Nevertheless,
PIRG hopes that their study will help inform consumers about what’s
at stake in the federal trial – and what goes into their bodies.
The group has called for the ubiquitous herbicide to be
banned until
it can be proven safe, and for consumers to opt for organic products
whenever possible due to the significantly lower amounts of
glyphosate found in them.

Cook-Schultz
commented:

With
a federal court looking at the connection between Roundup and cancer
today, we believe this is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on
glyphosate … This chemical could prove a true risk to so many
Americans’ health, and they should know that it is everywhere –
including in many of their favorite drinks.”

Antibiotic
residue on oranges?!

Are
you willing to trade the effectiveness of antibiotics in treating
human infections in exchange for a hearty orange crop? When the
agriculture sector and others use antibiotics frivolously, it has
grave consequences to public health and the health of our planet. But
that’s what the Trump administration is allowing when
it
recently approved the maximum level of a medically-important
antibiotic to be sprayed on citrus trees
.

Tell
EPA not to approve the use of medically-important antibiotics on
citrus trees!

This
overuse of medically-important antibiotics can be avoided. The citrus
industry requested this use of antibiotics to suppress citrus
greening disease, which is spread by a tiny insect called the Asian
citrus psyllid and leads to the stunting of citrus crops and
decreased yields. In 2016, t
he
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved the emergency use of
1.6 million pounds of oxytetracycline and another medically-important
antibiotic
,
streptomycin, to combat citrus greening disease. But human pathogenic
organisms can travel from species to species, so antibiotic spraying
of citrus can worsen our antibiotic resistance crisis.

These
antibiotics are a quick fix to a problem that won’t actually cure
the disease that’s infected these trees.
 We
are sacrificing the efficacy of antibiotics for a “solution” that
doesn’t even stop the disease from spreading. They just serve to
keep the trees living longer so they can keep producing fruit.

Tell
EPA: we can’t risk losing the efficacy of medically-important
antibiotics in exchange for maintaining diseased citrus trees!

The
food industry uses more antibiotics on citrus fruit than are used to
treat infections in people, even though overuse of antibiotics is
causing more and more bacterial infections to become resistant to
antibiotics.
 The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 2
million people are infected by an antibiotic-resistant infection each
year, leading to 23,000 deaths; deaths that could have been prevented
if we used antibiotics more sparingly. But instead, these antibiotics
are being used as a stopgap measure to keep up with the demand for
oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit.

The
approval of oxytetracycline to prolong the life of infected citrus
trees flies in the face of scientific consensus. EPA’s own Risk
Assessment of this practice found it posed a clear risk.
The
citrus testing results submitted by industry have already detected
antibiotic residue in citrus fruit and juice.
Antibiotics
can also change the chemistry of our soil and water eco-systems,
putting bees, other pollinators, and small mammals at risk.
Antibiotics can disrupt the gut microbes of bees, making them more
susceptible to disease. When we put our pollinators at risk, we risk
losing all our fruit right along with them.

Protect
our pollinators and human health: medically-important antibiotics
shouldn’t be sprayed on citrus trees!

We
sympathize that the spread of citrus greening disease threatens the
industry’s yields of some of our favorite fruits. But that’s no
reason to approve multiple applications of an antibiotic we need to
save people’s lives. Countries that do not allow antibiotic residue
to be used in citrus production have found sustainable ways to combat
citrus greening disease, like replanting and tenting the new trees as
well as pest management techniques that stop the illness at its
source. EPA needs to evaluate the impacts of a medically-important
antibiotic before approving it to be sprayed, over and over again, in
our country’s citrus groves.

Together,
let’s stop this.

Monsanto’s
Cancer-Causing Weedkiller Found in Popular Children’s Foods

(CD— A
study of dozens of popular oat-based breakfast foods delivered
sobering news this week when almost all of the products examined by
the Environmental Working Group (EWG) were found to contain the
chemical glyphosate.

We’re
very concerned that consumers are eating more glyphosate than they
know,” said Scott Faber, vice president of government affairs at
EWG, in a
 statement.

Glyphosate
is classified as a probable carcinogen by the World Health
Organization (WHO) and was
 listed last
year as a chemical known to cause cancer by California.

Out
of 45 products “made with conventionally grown oats,” all but two
were
 found to
contain glyphosate. EWG also tested two organic brands, detecting the
chemical in five samples.

Thirty-one
of the breakfast foods were found to contain levels of glyphosate
that were higher than the level that EWG deems safe for children.

Quaker
Simply Granola, Giant Instant Oatmeal, Quaker Dinosaur Eggs Instant
Oatmeal, and Quaker Steel Cut Oats had some of the highest levels of
the chemical.

Monsanto,
the maker of Roundup, claims that glyphosate and Roundup are not
unsafe for humans—but a jury in California vehemently disagreed
with them last week,
ruling in
favor of a man who blamed Roundup for causing his cancer.

The
company was ordered to pay $289 million in damages to Dewayne
Johnson, who worked for years as a school groundskeeper in
California.

Thousands
of farm workers and others who have come into contact with Roundup
are reportedly also
preparing to
take legal action against the company after developing cancer.

In
light of the lawsuit and the World Health Organization’s 2015
conclusion that the chemical is a “probable carcinogen,”
said EWG
on Wednesday, “It is very troubling that cereals children like to
eat contain glyphosate.”

Parents
shouldn’t worry about whether feeding their children healthy oat
foods will also expose them to a chemical linked to cancer. The
government must take steps to protect our most vulnerable
populations,” said Alexis Temkin, Ph.D, a toxicologist at the
organization.

However,
EWG cautioned consumers against waiting for President Donald Trump’s
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take any action in light of
the startling study. In December the agency issued a “deeply
flawed” analysis, one which
relied
heavily
 on
industry studies, which claimed that glyphosate is not harmful
for humans.

We
will petition the Environmental Protection Agency to do its job and
end uses of glyphosate that resulted in the contamination we report
today,” EWG president Ken Cook said. “But we very much doubt our
petition will be acted upon by President Trump’s lawless EPA. So
we’re calling on the companies to make these iconic products with
clean ingredients.”

Greenpeace
says government should be ‘exercising the precautionary principle’
until more studies conducted

Greenpeace
has called on the Australian government to suspend the sale of the
weedkiller Roundup after a US court ruled
it
had caused the terminal cancer of an American man
.

On
Friday, the San Francisco superior court of California ruled that
Roundup caused school groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson to develop
non-Hodgkin lymphoma – a fatal blood cell cancer.

The
jury also found that manufacturer
Monsanto “knew
for decades” the product was potentially dangerous, and acted “with
malice or oppression” by failing to warn Johnson of the risks.

The
weedkiller is widely available in Australian supermarkets and
hardware stores, and
Greenpeace said
the government must now take “urgent action” to restrict it.

The
active chemical in Roundup – glyphosate – was classified as
“probably carcinogenic” in 2015 by the World
Health Organisation.

It
is
still
approved for use in Australia
,
and is the most commonly used herbicide in the world.

Monsanto’s
vice president, Scott Partridge, has insisted that Roundup is safe,
saying on Friday that the “verdict doesn’t change the four-plus
decades of safe use and science behind the product”.

A
spokeswoman for Monsanto in Australia told Guardian Australia: “The
US Environmental Protection Agency and regulatory authorities around
the world, including Australia, support the fact that glyphosate does
not cause cancer.”

But
Greenpeace said the federal government should suspend the use of
glyphosate until more studies were conducted.

We
need to be urgently exercising the precautionary principle,” said
Jamie Hanson, Greenpeace’s head of campaigns. “Use of this
dangerous product should be severely restricted.

Roundup
is widely available for sale in Australia … potentially exposing
millions of people to its harmful effects. This case is only the
first of hundreds that have been filed in the US claiming Roundup
causes non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We have no idea how far this will spread
and how many more are to come.”

The
UK hardware chain Homebase announced
 it
would review its sale of Roundup
 in
the wake of the court decision.

But
Bunnings Warehouse in Australia said it had not removed Roundup
because it was still classified safe by the government regulator.

We
follow advice from Australia’s chemical regulator, the Australian
Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), for this product,”
Clive Duncan, Bunnings’s director of marketing and merchandise,
said.

We
take customer and team member welfare extremely seriously and
strongly recommend users read and follow the directions and
recommendations listed on the labels and packaging.”

The
chief executive of
Cancer Council
Australia, Professor Sanchia Aranda, said Roundup posed no threat to
“mum-and-dad gardeners” as long as they took precautions.

This
risk is only classified for people who use it in the workplace on a
regular basis,” she said.

There
is no evidence there is a danger to mum-and-dad gardeners, or kids
who play in parks where Roundup is being sprayed.

[Wear]
protective clothing to stop it getting on your skin – it doesn’t
need to be industrial protection – just make sure your arms and
legs are covered. Wear a mask so you don’t inhale it.”

But
she said this advice would change if Monsanto was hiding more
information about Roundup.

The
most concerning thing is the suggestion that they are holding any
information back. We want to emphasise that if there is other
information that Monsanto have, that they must be transparent. We
have zero tolerance for companies who protect their shareholders over
the public.”

The
Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority confirmed
the court decision would not change Roundup’s status in Australia.

The
APVMA is aware of the decision in the Californian superior court,”
a spokesman said.

Glyphosate
is registered for use in Australia and APVMA approved products
containing glyphosate can continue to be used safely according to
label directions.”

Monsanto
said it intenedd to appeal against the decision in the US.

Shares
in an Australian maker of a similar product, Nufarm Ltd, fell 17%
after the weekend’s decision, hitting a two-year low.

gebruiksregels’ (SNUR >> Significant New Use Rule)…….

Neemt

Hoe
is ‘t mogelijk mensen..??!!!

EPA
is now allowing asbestos back into manufacturing

New Rule) allowing companies to use new asbestos-containing products
on a case-by-case basis. (Courtesy Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness
Center)

One
of the most dangerous construction-related carcinogens is now legally
allowed back into U.S. manufacturing under a new rule by the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Fast
Company
 recently
reported that on June 1, the EPA authorized a “SNUR” (Significant
New Use Rule) which allows new products containing asbestos to be
created on a case-by-case basis.

According
to environmental advocates, this new rule gives chemical companies
the upper hand in creating new uses for harmful products in the
United States. In May, the EPA
released
a report
 detailing
its new framework for evaluating the risk of its top prioritized
substances. The report states that the agency will no longer consider
the effect or presence of substances in the air, ground, or water in
its risk assessments.

This
news comes after the EPA reviewed its first batch of 10 chemicals
under the 2016 amendment to the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act
(TSCA), which requires the agency to continually reevaluate hundreds
of potentially toxic chemicals in lieu of removing them from the
market or placing new restrictions on their use. The SNUR greenlights
companies to use toxic chemicals like asbestos without consideration
about how they will endanger people who are indirectly in contact
with them.

Asbestos
was widely used in building insulation up until it was banned in most
countries in the 1970s. The U.S. is one of the only nations in the
world that has placed significant restrictions on the substance
without banning it completely. The
Asbestos
Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO)
 revealed
in April that asbestos-related deaths now total nearly 40,000
annually, with lung cancer and mesothelioma being the most common
illnesses in association with the toxin. That number could rise if
new asbestos-containing products make their way into new buildings.

A close-up photo of roofing with asbestos

Asbestos
poses a major health risk for everyone who comes into contact with
it, both directly and indirectly. (Courtesy OSHA Safety Manual)

Healthy
Building Network
 (HBN),
an environmental advocacy group, told
Fast
Company
 that
the fibrous material poses a major health risk for everyone exposed
to it, including those who mine it, those who handle it in industrial
facilities, as well as people near or inside renovation and
construction projects where it’s being used. HBN’s Board
President Bill Walsh said that the chlor-alkali industry is the only
industry in the country that still uses asbestos, reportedly
importing about 480 tons of the carcinogen each year from Russia and
Brazil.

Walsh
pointed out that chlorine-based plastics are commonly found in
building-product materials and that “virtually all” asbestos in
the U.S. is used in the industrial process to make chlorine. This
includes PVC and vinyl plastics, which is largely found in the
creation of pipes, tiles, flooring, adhesives, paints, and roofing
products.

As
the world’s largest exporter of asbestos, the Russian
company
Uralasbest operates
an enormous open mine nearly
half
the size of Manhattan
in
a mountainous town 900 miles northeast of Moscow, according to the
Center for Public Integrity. The company has support from the
government and President Vladimir Putin, even though their economic
success exposes the local residents to major health risks. Once
referred to as “the dying city,” Asbest’s residents have
reported the carcinogenic dust is often found as a thick film over
garden vegetables, laundry lines, and even on the floors of their
homes.

 noted
that the
Environmental
Working Group
 (EWG)
and the ADAO had discovered a controversial post on
Uralasbest’s
Facebook page
 showing
photos of company pallets stamped with a seal of U.S. President
Donald Trump’s face. Trump has long been vocal about his
skepticism on the harmful effects of asbestos, citing in his 1997
book,
The
Art of the Comeback
,
that anti-asbestos efforts were “led by the mob.” In 2012,
he
tweeted that
the World Trade Center might not have burned had the fire-retardant
material not been removed from the towers. It’s
estimated that
400 tons of asbestos fiber went into the structures before the
developers stopped it from being used further in 1971.

Asbestos,
while already legal for some uses, has not been as widely used in
U.S. construction since nearly 60 countries forbid it from use over
40 years ago. Though the EPA is now easing its regulations against
integrating the harmful toxin and others like it under the Trump
administration, it will largely be the responsibility of local and
state governments, as well as companies and informed consumers to
counter these new federal moves. Walsh says it’s up to sustainable
building-product manufacturers and ultimately, architects to pressure
the market.

Architects
really set the pace of design, in terms of aesthetics and materials
that we like,” he said. “If they start to incorporate
health-based criteria into their palette, it could really have an
influence on what the manufacturers produce.”

The
EPA told
The
Washington Post
it will
conduct further studies on the first 10 chemicals under the amended
TSCA and final risk evaluations will published in December 2019.

Voorts is men bezig een
aanklacht tegen Wikileaks

Russian
Talking Points” Look An Awful Lot Like Well-Documented Facts

caitlinjohnstone (63) in russia •

Things
aren’t looking great for the Democratic establishment, which
recently
admitted that it stacks its primaries
 against
progressive candidates and is currently engaged in a desperate, hail
Mary
lawsuit
against WikiLeaks
 for
its factual publications about the party. So of course you know what
that means.

That’s
right! It’s time for Democratic pundits to begin down-punching Jill
Stein.

“Jill
Stein is on
@NewDay right
now repeating Russian talking points on its interference in the 2016
election and on US foreign policy,”
tweeted CNN
Chief National Security Correspondent Jim Sciutto today, without
shame or self-reflection.

Sciutto
was referring to comments Stein made on a
CNN
interview today
 about
America’s undeniable, entirely factual and
well-documented
history
 of
meddling in other countries’ elections, including a citation of
an
ex-CIA
Director’s recent admission
 that
the US has interfered in foreign electoral processes and continues to
do so to this day.

Because
that’s what constitutes a “Russian talking point” these
days: raw, easily verifiable facts.

Stein’s
interviewer, Chris “It’s illegal to read WikiLeaks” Cuomo,
echoed a similar sentiment in response to her points, in essence
arguing that only Russians should be stating these blatantly obvious
and extremely relevant facts.

“You
know, that would be the case for Russia to make, not from the
American perspective,” Cuomo said. “Of course, there’s
hypocrisy involved, lots of different big state actors do lots of
things that they may not want people to know about. But let Russia
say that the United States did it to us, and here’s how they did it,
so this is fair play. From the American perspective and you running
for president, more than once of this country, shouldn’t your
position have been, this was bad what they did, they’re trying to do
it right now and we have to stop it?”

Right.
Because you have so many Russians on your show making that case, do
you Chris?

This
is absolute lunacy. The implication here is that it isn’t ever okay
for Americans to talk about Russia in any other context than how
awful and evil its government is; that nobody can speak about how
America’s behavior factors into the equation in a very real and
significant way. Not because it’s not factual, not because it’s not
relevant, but because it’s a “Russian talking point”, and
only Russians should be saying it.

And
this sentiment being promulgated by these establishment pundits is
being swallowed hook, line and sinker by the rank-and-file citizenry
who consume such media. Every single day, without exception, I am
accused multiple times of being a propagandist for the Kremlin. Not
because there’s any evidence for that, not because I’m writing
anything that is untruthful, but because I’m writing “Russian
talking points”, i.e. arguments that have ostensibly been made
at some point by Russians.

And
it is, to be perfectly honest, infuriating. These people are actively
making the case for willful ignorance and stupidity. They’re actively
arguing that facts which don’t support the narratives being
promulgated by the CIA and the State Department should be completely
excluded from all discussion within the western hemisphere, and that
only Russians should be making them. They do this while
simultaneously arguing that Russian media is dangerous and should be
avoided by Americans. Only Russians should argue against CIA/CNN
narratives, and we should never, ever listen to those arguments.

They’re
arguing for the deliberate omission of relevant facts from dialogue.
They are arguing that we should all be morons, on purpose.

Of course it’s
relevant to the discussion that the US interferes with foreign
democratic processes far more than any other government on the
planet! Are you nuts? Yes,
obviously if
yours is the primary country responsible creating a climate wherein
governments meddle in the elections of other nations, that undeniable
fact must necessarily be a part of any sensible analysis of what’s
happening and what should be done about it. Anyone who tries to argue
that that fact shouldn’t be a part of the conversation is making an
argument in favor of stupidity.

That’s
not a “whataboutism”, as empire loyalists like Eric
Boehlert habitually
claim.
It’s crucial factual information.

The
environment that these pundits are creating is itself hostile to
democracy. If all “talking points” are excluded from the
conversation other than those which lead to continually escalating
sanctions, proxy wars, nuclear posturing and brinkmanship, then
there’s no way for activism or democracy to tap the brake on the
west’s ongoing trajectory toward direct military confrontation with a
nuclear superpower.

In
her interview, Stein
outlined this
quite clearly:

“You
know, I think that kind of position which says that we’re in a
totally different category from the rest of the world is not working.
This century of American domination, you know, sort of didn’t play
out the way we thought it would, we’re embroiled now — we have the
military in practically every country around the world. In the recent
taxes that people pay, the average American paid almost $3,500 that
went into the Department of Offense, I would call it, not the
Department of Defense, $3,500, whereas we put $40 into the EPA.

“You
know, 57 percent of our discretionary dollars now are going into the
military. It’s part of a mindset that says, we’re always right and
they’re always wrong and we’re going to be dominating militarily and
economically. We’re in a multi-polar world right now and, you know,
we need to behave as an exemplary member of the community and that is
by upholding ourselves and leading the way on international law,
human rights and diplomacy. That approach is really paying off on the
Korean peninsula right now. I think we should be using it more
broadly.”

Cuomo,
who as the son of a New York Governor and brother of the current New
York Governor is as much Democratic Party royalty as a Clinton, had
some very interesting facial expressions in response to Stein’s
arguments. Whenever an interviewee makes strong points which go
against the establishment grain he always looks like he’s taking a
really uncomfortable shit:

(ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!)

There
have been far too many cartoonishly absurd responses to Stein’s
interview for me to address in a single article without putting my
laptop through the wall in a fit of rage, but
this
tweet
 from
MSNBC and
Atlanticcontributor
Natasha Bertrand is really something else.

“Jill
Stein just told
@CNN that
her presence at RT gala in Moscow Dec 2015 wasn’t controversial at
the time because Obama ‘was still on track for a reboot’ with Putin,”
said Bertrand, adding that “Russia had already annexed Crimea,
invaded eastern Ukraine, intervened in Syria for Assad, and hacked
the DNC.”

This
is actual, real-life “Oceania had always been at war with
Eastasia” Orwellian revisionist doublethink. There was no public
information about any Russian DNC hack in 2015, and the average
American hardly ever thought about Russia at that time.
Then-Secretary of State John Kerry
personally
met with Vladimir Putin in July of 2016
 to
discuss collaboration against terrorist forces in Syria. Only in the
most warped, revisionist, funhouse mirror Orwellian reality tunnel
can it be claimed that Stein visiting Moscow in December of 2015
would have been considered shady or controversial at the time.

The
fact that Bertrand’s tweet was liked and shared thousands of times on
Twitter is extremely creepy and disturbing. Establishment media
didn’t start indoctrinating American liberals with Russia hysteria
until the tail end of 2016, but it’s been so effective that MSNBC
mainliners are now gaslighting themselves into a revision of their
own history.

This
is why people like myself fight the CIA/CNN Russia narrative so
aggressively. Not because we’re propagandists, not because we’re
“useful idiots”, not because of “Russian talking
points”, but because the US-centralized power establishment’s
nonstop campaign to manufacture support for its agendas of global
hegemony are making us all stupid and crazy.

Stop
playing along with this bullshit. Stop letting them make us stupid
and crazy. Stop letting them manipulate us into consenting to
escalations with a nuclear superpower. Stop. Turn back. Wrong way.
