Vorige week werd bekend gemaakt dat de zwaar onverantwoordelijke misdadige gifmenger Monsanto een man, Dewayne Johnson*, die beroepsmatig RoundUp heeft moeten gebruiken en daardoor het non-Hodgkin Lymfoon (dodelijke bloedkanker) opliep, een vergoeding moet betalen van $ 289 miljoen. Zoals je begrijpt: Roundup producent Monsanto is zo onbeschoft tegen deze veroordeling in verweer te gaan, terwijl het bedrijf al decennia geleden op de hoogte was van het gevaar dat gebruik van Roundup met zich meebrengt…….
Monsanto is nu overigens van Bayer, één van de grote oorlogsmisdadigers uit WOII, waar men gevangenen uit de concentratiekampen misbruikte voor medische proeven…… Ongelofelijk dat men de naam Bayer na de oorlog heeft behouden…… Kortom gezien het verleden is Bayer een bedrijf dat waarschijnlijk nog minder dan Monsanto ethisch verantwoord onderneemt…..
Gisteren kwam Anti-Media met het bericht (overgenomen van Common Dreams) dat Vietnam genoegdoening wil van o.a. Monsanto voor de productie en de verkoop daarna aan het VS leger van het chemische wapen Agent Orange (ook Dow Chemical maakte dit chemische wapen). Viet Nam News meldde afgelopen zondag dat de vereniging van Agent Orange slachtoffers (VAVA) een zaak aanspant tegen Monsanto en dat voor 3 miljoen Vietnamese slachtoffers van deze chemische oorlogsvoering met Agent Orange.
Shell had tijdens de Vietnamoorlog een grote voorraad van dit smerige chemische wapen voor het VS leger opgeslagen in Pernis…….
Nog steeds eist Agent Orange slachtoffers onder de jonge bevolking van Vietnam, kinderen die met vreselijke afwijkingen worden geboren…….. De VS heeft naar schatting 45 miljoen liter van deze kankertroep over Vietnam gesproeid tijdens de, in feite illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Noord-Vietnam…… Hier een link naar een artikel van Independent Science News, waar de gevaren van Agent Orange worden beschreven.
Naast de slachtoffers die de VS met Agent Orange maakte, kwamen er meer dan 2 miljoen Vietnamezen om door deze agressieoorlog van de VS, ofwel ze werden vermoord door de VS en partners als Australië die meevochten in Vietnam…….

Demands Monsanto Finally Be Held Liable Over Agent Orange

the wake of a U.S. court ordering Monsanto
to pay $289 million in damages to man who says its weedkiller Roundup
caused his cancer, Vietnam has called
on the
agrichemical giant to pay reparations to Vietnamese victims of Agent
Orange.
“This
case is a precedent that rejects previous arguments that the
herbicides supplied to the U.S. military by Monsanto and other U.S.
chemical companies during the Vietnam War are not harmful to people’s
health,” spokesperson for the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign
Affairs Nguyen Phuong Tra said to
reporters last week.
“We
believe Monsanto should be responsible for compensating Vietnamese
victims of Agent Orange for the damages caused by the company’s
herbicides,” she said.
Monsanto, now a
unit of Bayer, was one of the manufacturers of Agent Orange. The U.S.
dumped roughly 45 million liters of the notorious compound, which
contained dioxin,
on Vietnam during the war, unleashing “a
slow-onset disaster whose devastating economic, health, and
ecological impacts … are still being felt today.” With its
long-lasting impacts on the Vietnamese, as well as U.S.
service-members, it’s been called “one
of the most tragic legacies of the war.”
Viet
Nam Newsreported Sunday
that the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), which
is working for justice on behalf of roughly 3 million Vietnamese
affected by the chemical warfare, is also hopeful given the new
verdict.
“No
matter how difficult and prolonged this case might be, we won’t
ever give up on it, for the sake of the millions of Vietnamese
victims,” said Quách Thành Vinh, VAVA’s chief of office and
director of liaison lawyers office.
Former
U.S. school groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson, who’s suffering from
non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, secured his
legal victory against Monsanto on Aug. 10. CNN reported that
the ruling “could set a massive precedent for thousands of other
cases claiming Monsanto’s famous herbicide causes non-Hodgkin’s
lymphoma.”
PS: vanmorgen op Radio1 rond 8.45 u. in het ‘positieve nieuwsoverzicht’ (‘opmerkelijk nieuws uit andere media’ noemt men dat in het Radio1 Journaal met presentator en superleeghoofd van Den Berg) aandacht voor een Australiër die het vliegtuig terugzag waarin hij tijdens de Vietnamoorlog had gevlogen…… Positief nieuws dus geen aandacht voor de enorme moordpartij in Vietnam middels straaljagers en bommenwerpers, of het sproeien met Agent Orange….. De man was blij het toestel weer te zien, zo liet de wezenloze medepresentator (v) weten en zo voegde ze toe, hij mag ook een keer mee met een tochtje in dat moordwapen…… (al nam ze het woord moordwapen uiteraard niet in de mond….) ‘Leuk positief nieuws hè??!!!’
De superlatieven na de dood van oorlogsmisdadiger en massamoordenaar McCain zijn niet van de lucht, zelfs VPRO’s OVT liet het ‘geweldige onderdeel de Vakantieman‘ gistermorgen vallen om een portret van deze schoft ‘te schilderen…….’

Hier wat woorden die tijdens dit onderdeel werden gebruikt over McCain: presentator Mathijs Deen begon al goed toen hij in de aankondiging al stelde dat McCain krijgsgevangene is geweest, dat herhaalde hij tijdens dit praatje een paar keer gevolgd door: “daar praten we zo meteen over” (en dat zal ik hierna dan ook maar doen…..)
Valente stelde dat McCain een markante figuur was, “Zeg maar bigger than life….” Uiteraard werd zijn verzet tegen Trump genoemd en als je als senator tegen Trump bent, zit het wat betreft Valenta en de VPRO wel goed met je……
Volgens Valenta was McCain een politicus van karakter, die zijn karakter inzette, zijn integriteit (ha! ha! ha!), zijn moed, zijn gevoel voor eer (ha! ha! ha!), zijn vasthoudingsvermogen, zijn strijdbaarheid, die hem door zijn gevangenschap hielpen…….
Dan zijn gevangenisstraf: hij zat in een vliegtuig aldus Valenta, toen hij werd neergehaald door de Noord-Vietnamezen…… In een vliegtuig? McCain bestuurde één van de vele ‘vliegtuigen’ waarmee de VS Noord-Vietnamese steden en dorpen plat bombardeerde, waarmee napalmbommen op de bevolking van Noord-Vietnam werden afgeworpen, of waarmee dorpen en steden werden bestookt, die werden verdacht van sympathie en hulp voor de Noord-Vietnamezen……
Verder gebruikte de VS het ontbladeringsmiddel Agent Orange, een middel dat tot op de dag van vandaag slachtoffers eist onder de bevolking van Vietnam…….
Beste bezoeker, met geen woord werden deze oorlogsmisdaden genoemd, nee McCain, zoon van een VS admiraal mocht eerder naar huis, maar dat weigerde hij, wetend aldus Valente dat hij langer vastgehouden en gemarteld zou worden in wat toen nog Noord-Vietnam werd genoemd…… De VS had niets te zoeken in Vietnam en wat betreft dat martelen, de VS deed en doet niet anders dan mensen martelen, alleen het gijzelen van mensen op Guantanamo Bay is al een marteling van jewelste, waarnaast die mensen ook nog eens fysiek werden (en naar het schijnt nog steeds worden) gemarteld…..
Presentator Deen vatte het voorgaande samen met de woorden: hij was een oorlogsheld…… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Als je zo lult, zonder naar de feiten te kijken, kan je ook stellen dat soldaten van het Duitse nazi-bewind oorlogshelden waren als ze opkwamen voor hun collega’s, wat ze verder ook geflikt hadden…….
Valenta voegde nog toe dat McCain een hart voor benadeelden had en dat gebaseerd op z’n onwil om ObamaCare af te schieten……. Toch meldde Valente nog wel dat McCain een groot voorstander van de oorlog tegen Irak was, een oorlog waarin tot nu meer dan 1,5 miljoen benadeelden werden vermoord door ronduit VS terreur, die verdere uitleg over de illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Irak, kwam natuurlijk niet uit de mond van Valenta….. Laten we over de benadeelden in de VS maar helemaal niet spreken, hoewel? >> Meer dan 60 miljoen mensen in de VS die afhankelijk zijn van voedselbonnen, daar ze aan de grond zijn geraakt in de onmenselijke neoliberale VS prestatiemaatschappij, zaken waar McCain totaal geen moeite mee had…….
Vanmorgen was het overigens ook op de buitenlandse radiozenders bal en stak men McCain de ene na de andere veer in de vieze oorlogsreet…..
McCain is dood, een goede reden om een goed glas whiskey te drinken en een bong te roken van (uiteraard gevuld met softdrugs), iets waarvan McCain i.t.t. de harddrug alcohol, een zwaar tegenstander was…) Lees wat McCain betreft ook: ‘McCain terminaal ziek: vier als het zover is zijn dood luidruchtig, niets om je voor te schamen‘ (en zie wat Caitlin Johnstone volkomen terecht over McCain te zeggen heeft)
Het
beest Trump heeft op 13 augustus jl. de jaarlijkse budgettering voor
het militaire apparaat, de National
Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) voor 2019 getekend. De NDAA waarmee
ook VS burgers ongelimiteerd zonder vorm van proces kunnen worden
opgesloten vanwege ‘banden met terrorisme….’ Met dergelijke
wetgeving kan een dictatuur elke kritiek als terreur aanmerken, neem
Saoedi-Arabië waar een 29 jarige sjiitische vrouw driegt te worden
onthoofd, alleen vanwege (geweldloze) kritiek op de psychopathisch
reli-fascistische dictatuur in dat land, zij wordt letterlijk van
terrorisme beschuldigd…..*
De
VS is in feite al een politiestaat en met dergelijke wetgeving wordt
de vrijheid van meningsuiting een begrip uit het verleden………
Zie ook de samenwerking van bedrijven als Facebook (plus Google in
haar geheel) en Apple met de VS overheid, waar kritische blogs en
sites meer en meer worden geweerd van het internet….** Ofwel censuur van de bovenste plank!
Terug
naar Trumps handtekening onder de NDAA: hij beloofde dat hij niet zal
ingaan op zaken die ‘bepaalde militaire missies’ in de weg zullen
staan, waarbij hij zelfs aangaf niet te willen bezuinigen op de hulp
aan de Saoedische terreurcoalitie die zo tekeergaat in Jemen……
Ofwel S-A kreeg een ‘carte blanche’ om verder te gaan met de
uitvoering van de genocide op sjiieten in Jemen…….
Voorts
gaf Trump nog aan dat het militaire terreurapparaat van de VS niet
hoeft aan te geven hoeveel burgerslachtoffers er vallen door (illegale) militaire acties van de VS in het buitenland…….

Trump’s
Signing of the 2019 NDAA Will Lead to More Dead Children in Yemen
Donald
Trump recently made it clear he will not accept any limitations on
the U.S. military’s logistical support of the war in Yemen.
(CR) — On
August 13, Donald Trump did what every president does, every single
year, without question – he signed the annual military budget bill,
the National Defense Authorization Act of 2019. Some readers may
recall that since 2011, the NDAA has included a provision which
allows for indefinite detention of American citizens without a right
to trial. Many of you may remember that President Obama had no
problem signing the NDAA 2012 in 2011, which legalized the indefinite
detention of American citizens suspected of ties to terrorism. The
indefinite detention provision is still contained in the NDAA, and
has been approved by Congress every year since it first passed.
Donald
Trump continued this trend by signing the NDAA 2019. However, Trump
made it clear that there were certain provisions in this year’s
bill that he would not abide by. “In a 15-page signing
statement issued
Monday night, President Trump revealed that he intends to ignore many
of the myriad provisions of the 2019 National Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA), the $716 billion military spending bill,” Anti-War.com
reports.
Trump
explicitly says he will not follow provisions which he believes get
in the way of certain “military missions” or are not consistent
with his “constitutional authority as Commander in Chief.” Trump
also says he will not provide more information on civilian casualties
from overseas conflicts because, apparently, the military should not
have to share too much information with Congress. Trump also opposes
a ban on military cooperation with Russia and a call for the creation
of a White House position to investigate election meddling.
Finally,
Trump seemed to suggest he would not allow any limits on the Yemen
War and would oppose the idea of providing an assessment on possible
war crimes to congress. Despite the fact that most of the American
public and the
corporate media had
never heard of the “civil war” in Yemen until actor Jim
Carrey drew
a picture of a school bus full of children being
bombed, the conflict has raged since 2015. According to the corporate
media, the conflict is a traditional civil war between different
political factions in the nation, but deeper research indicates that
this is another attempt at regime change by Saudi Arabia and western
forces. However, that is a story for another day.
For
the moment let’s acknowledge that Saudi Arabia launched their own
military intervention in the form of drone attacks and airstrikes.
The campaign is supported with weapons and money from the U.S.
government. The aforementioned school bus full of children? On August
9th, the US-Saudi coalition dropped a 500-pound, laser guided MK-82
bomb manufactured by Lockheed Martin, on a bus full of kids driving
in Dahyan in Saada province of Yemen. The bomb killed 51
people, including 40 children. Reportedly, the
US State Department and
the Saudi defended
the act as a“legitimate
military operation”.
These
types of attacks are not unusual in this conflict. Recently, United
Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the war in Yemen was
now the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis” with more than 22
million people in need of help. Guterres
told a conference that
there are millions of people without access to clean drinking water
and at risk of a cholera epidemic.
Of
course, this matter is only made worse by the fact that Republicans
rejected an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill which would
have put restrictions on U.S. financial support for the bombing
campaign. U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy said the
amendment “would cut off United States’ support for the Saudi
Arabia-led coalition’s war in Yemen until the Secretary of Defense
certified that the coalition’s air campaign is not violating
international law and U.S. policy related to the protection of
civilians”. Now we can’t have the politicians cut off the
lifeblood to the Military Industrial Complex, can we?
Of
course, we the people can cut off their source of revenue by finding
ways to avoid paying taxes. Otherwise, the cold hard reality is that
there will be more dead people. There will be more buses of dead
children; hospitals, schools, funerals, and weddings being bombed,
and more people who have a justifiable anger towards the U.S.
government and military.
Gisteren
werd bekend gemaakt dat de Saoedische terreurcoalitie tijdens een
bombardement van de havenstad Hodeida, meermaals een vluchtelingenkamp
raakte en daarbij een bus met kinderen raakte……. Dit keer kwamen
er 22 kinderen en 9 volwassenen om het leven….. Bij de aanval
onlangs op een schoolbus kwamen 40 kinderen om het leven…….* Ditz spreekt van 42
vermoorde kinderen bij die aanval, echter het aantal van 40 wordt
door de meeste reguliere mediaorganen genoemd, die eindelijk wakker schrokken door die beestachtige aanval (het aantal van 40 vermoorde kinderen wordt ook door een groot deel van de sociale media genoemd; al wordt deze massamoord er niet minder op doordat er een paar kinderen minder werden vermoord…….).
Ook voor de laatste aanval is de VS één van de hoofdverantwoordelijken en weer is het stil in
de media, als men e.e.a. al meldde was dit met de toevoeging dat de
Houthi’s verantwoordelijk zijn volgens de Saoedische terreurcoalitie,
terwijl de Houthi’s niet eens beschikken over straaljagers en
bommenwerpers……..
De
VS (en in mindere mate GB) zijn verantwoordelijk voor de oorlog die
de Saoedische coalitie voert tegen de sjiitische bevolking van
Jemen, zo coördineert de VS de bombardementen en tankt het de
straaljagers en bommenwerpers van deze moorddadige coalitie af in de
lucht, zodat het smerige werk zo efficiënt mogelijk kan worden
uitgevoerd…… Daarnaast levert de VS wapens, munitie en militaire
hardware, dus rollend, vliegend en varend oorlogstuig. Ook helpt de
VS fysiek mee aan de zeeblokkade voor havens die in handen zijn van
de Houthi’s waarvan de grootste Hodeida nu al wekenlang onder vuur
ligt van de Saoedische terreurcoalitie…….
Hoelang
blijft de wereld nog toekijken hoe er zich een genocide voltrekt in
Jemen, zonder de verantwoordelijke partijen het vuur aan de schenen
te leggen en deze landen te gaan boycotten, landen als Saoedi-Arabië, de
Verenigde Arabische Emiraten (VAE), Egypte en Marokko, waar een boycot van de VS en GB al jaren geleden ingevoerd had moeten worden……
Voor het Internationaal
Strafhof (ICC) is het nu echt de hoogste tijd een onderzoek in te
stellen naar de door de Saoedische coalitie gevoerde genocide in
Jemen, een onderzoek waarin uiteraard ook de VS en GB meegenomen moeten
worden!!

Saudi Airstrike Kills at Least 31 Civilians in Yemen, Mostly Children
(ANTIWAR.COM) —
Saudi warplanes carried out an airstrike against the Yemeni port city
of Hodeidah on Thursday, hitting a camp for internally displaced
people, and killed
at least 31 civilians.
The slain included 22 children. 79 civilians were wounded, again
overwhelmingly children.
Saudi
coalition officials claimed the Houthis, who are in control of the
city, attacked the camp themselves. This is not possible, of course,
because the Houthis don’t have any warplanes in the first place.
This
marks the second major incident of the Saudi-led coalition killing
large numbers of children in Yemen in recent weeks, both of the
attacks involving attacking a bus. The previous attack, in Saada,
killed 51 civilians, 42 of them children.
In
the Saada attack, the coalition insisted attacking a school bus full
of children was a “legitimate military action.” It is clear,
however, that they don’t want to admit to this current attack, as
they are trying to pin it, unconvincingly, on the Houthis.

Israël voert deze afbraakpolitiek tegen bedoeïendorpen in de Negev (woestijn), om de bedoeïen te herplaatsen in door Israël aangewezen gehuchten, zodat de Joodse gemeenschappen in de Negev kunnen uitbreiden, door zich grond toe te eigenen waarop de bedoeïen woonden……
Mensen wat een ellende en vernedering waarin deze mensen moeten leven, zo heeft Israël een ander bedoeïenendorp, al-Araqib voor de

Israeli
occupation police on Saturday evening forced a Palestinian man in the
Negev to demolish his home on his wedding day, Arab48 reported. Faisal
Abu-Binniyah in Wadi Al-Naam village was forced to raze the property
in which he planned to start his new family, his brother Jalal said,
leaving “him without an alternative”.
“The
demolition of my brother’s house ended our happiness at his
marriage as we were subject to repeated raids by Israeli police and
repeated threats to pay high fines if we did not demolish the house,”
Jalal told Arab48.
Jalal
described the measures of the Israeli police against his family as a
“revenge policy”, stating that this is “intentionally planned
against Arabs.”
Wadi
Al-Naam is the largest unrecognised Arab villages in the Negev with a
population estimated to be more than 13,000.
Most
of the residents in this village were forced out of their homes by
the Israeli occupation forces in 1953. Like all other unrecognized
villages they lack the basic infrastructure including access to
running water and connection to the national grid.
According
to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), more than half
of the approximately 160,000 Bedouins in the Negev reside in
unrecognised villages.
The
unrecognised Bedouin villages were established in the Negev soon
after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war following the creation of the State
of Israel.
Right
groups say that the demolition of unrecognised Bedouin villages is
a central Israeli
policy aimed
at removing the indigenous Palestinian population from the Negev
and transferring them to government-zoned townships to make room for
the expansion of Jewish Israeli communities.

Dit nog naast het frustreren van de export van
Palestijnse landbouwproducten (bijvoorbeeld door deze producten te
lang vast te houden) en heeft Israël waterbronnen van de Palestijnen
in de Gazastrook onbruikbaar gemaakt, dit naast het stelen van water van de
Palestijnen op de West Bank….. (zo meer daarover) Gegarandeerd dat
ik nog e.e.a ben vergeten….
Al de voorgaande punten zijn een teken van een langzame vorm van etnische zuivering, immers jonge Palestijnen ontvluchten meer en meer de ellende in het van hen gestolen land Palestina……..
Nu
blijkt ook nog eens dat Israël al vanaf 1967 massaal chemisch afval
dumpt op de West Bank, waardoor bijvoorbeeld ook nog eens een deel
van het laatste grondwater daar werd vergiftigd…… Volgens
deskundigen gaat het hier om 60% van het Israëlische chemisch
afval….. Niet alleen wordt het grondwater vergiftigd, maar door de
manier van opslag (bovengronds) worden Palestijnen in de buurt van deze gifbelten ook nog eens extra vergiftigd via
de lucht die zijn inademen…. Op de West Bank zijn 98 van deze gifbelten te vinden……
Israël
is samen met Egypte, één van de
weinige landen die het verdrag tegen het gebruik en verspreiding van chemische
wapens niet heeft getekend….. Verder doet Israël (zoals hoogstwaarschijnlijk ook de VS) nog steeds onderzoek naar nieuwe
chemische wapens en fabriceert het die wapens, slaat ze op en

The
Israeli occupation has turned the occupied Palestinian West Bank into
a massive landfill for dangerous and toxic wastes since 1967,
the Anadolu Agency revealed yesterday.
Palestinian
experts and officials said that 60 per cent of Israel’s waste ends
up in the occupied West Bank.
They
stressed that this puts the life of Palestinians at stake, as well as
damaging the soil and poisoning the groundwater.
According
to Palestinian experts, Israeli disposal of its wastes is a clear
violation of international laws related to environmental protection.
Speaking
to Anadolu, head of the Palestinian Environment Authority
Adala Al-Atira said: “There are 98 Israeli landfills across the
occupied West Bank.”
This
is in addition to the scores of landfill sites which are used by the
illegal settlements but have not been officially recognised or
allocated.

Bomb Fragments At Site Of Yemen Bus Airstrike Trace Back To Lockheed
Martin
(ZHE) — A
prominent Yemeni journalist who throughout the war has been
instrumental in getting images and information out of the country
ahead of Western journalists has photographed and examined fragments
from one of the exploded missiles found at the site of
the US-Saudi coalition airstrike on a school bus in
Yemen, which left as
many as 50 people dead and 63 injured — the
vast majority of which were children.
The
image of the missile fragment, believed to be among those that scored
a direct hit on the bus full of children traveling
through Dahyan market in Saada province last Thursday, was
uploaded by Sanaa-based Hussain Albukhaiti and quickly spread online
over the weekend. It
appears to be a US-made MK-82 guided bomb produced by Lockheed
Martin.
Ben
Norton, an American journalist among the first to track down publicly
available government contract information showing the MK-82’s
likely origins, said
of the bomb fragment imagery: “Yemeni
journalists found this fragment of the bomb Saudi Arabia dropped on a
school bus full of children in Yemen. It’s
a US-made MK-82 guided bomb, which has been used in previous attacks
on Yemeni civilians. The cage code on the bomb is Lockheed Martin’s.“

The
MK-82 is a 500-pound air dropped guided bomb which US Air Force and
military publications previously
touted as“causing
the least amount of collateral damage” — US
defense contractors have over the past few years sold
the MK-82 to Saudi Arabia under contracts worth tens of millions of
dollars.
The CAGE
Code,
or Commercial and Government Entity Code, is a number
assigned to suppliers of various government or defense agencies which
provides a standardize method to track military items to a given
facility at a specific location. According to one defense
contracting consultation
site, The
Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency, (DLA)
assigns the five-character ID and uses alpha numeric identifier is
assigned to entities located in the United States and its’
territories.
Ben
Norton says the
Cage Code on the fragment reportedly found at the site traces to
US government contractor Lockheed Martin.
The
code on the panel fragment in the photograph reads: 94271.
Ben
Norton further tracked down specific contracts through 2016 and 2017
showing that Lockheed Martin/General Dynamics is the key
supplier of the MK-82 500-pound bombs to the Saudi military (in
1997 General Dynamics acquired Lockheed’s Armament Systems and
Defense Systems productions divisions).
The
separate contracts are collectively worth over $60 million and were
approved by US Army Contracting Command.
In
2016 the Saudi coalition, of which both the US and Britain play a
lead role, used
the US-made MK 82 guided bombs to attack a funeral in Sanaa,
Yemen’s capital city, which killed over 140 and wounded at least
500 more.

It
resulted in a drawn out testy exchange, but Matt Lee laid out
the case for direct US complicity in the attack on the bus packed
with children: “The
Saudis obviously are the ones who conducted this, but they do that
with weapons supplied by the U.S., with training supplied by the
U.S., and with targeting information, targeting data, supplied by the
U.S. How can something like this happen?” he
said.
Not
only did Nauert refuse to say the US condemned the attack,
but wouldn’t
so much as agree to simply call for an independent investigation into
the incident(she
called only for a Saudi-led inquiry) which killed
at least 29 children and has resulted in the United Nations
launching an
independent probe.
Previously
last week, just before the horrendous attack on the school bus,
Nauert had unambiguously
statedthe
Saudi coalition’s ongoing airstrikes on Yemen are legitimate
and justified.
The
Saudis for their part called
the incident part of a“legitimate military
operation” soon
after it happened, ultimately blaming Shia Houthi rebels who control
the region.
In
April of 2016, Bruce Riedel, a 30-year CIA officer and senior fellow
at the Brookings Institute, told
a conference audience, “If
the United States and the United Kingdom, tonight, told King Salman
[of Saudi Arabia] ‘this war has to end,’ it would end tomorrow.
The Royal Saudi Air Force cannot operate without American and British
support.”
Bruce Riedel of the Brookings Institute: “if the United States of America and the United Kingdom tonight told King Salman that this war [on Yemen] has to end, it would end tomorrow because the Royal Saudi Air force cannot operate without American & British Support”.
Last
week’s coalition airstrike on the bus elicited rare bipartisan
outrage among a handful of congress members, including from Senator
Chris Murphy (D-Conn), who
said in a statement, “The
Saudi/UAE/U.S. bombing campaign is getting more reckless, killing
more civilians, and strengthening terrorists inside Yemen. We need to
end this – NOW.”
The
Pentagon has long tried to present its role in the conflict as
attempting to stave off humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen, yet
as even NPR* confirmed while reporting
from inside the country earlier
this year the US military “has provided
targeting information, equipment and aircraft refueling to the Saudi
air campaign,
which has been widely criticized for being indiscriminate and killing
civilians in places like hospitals, funerals and homes.”

A
CONFIDENTIAL REPORT by Israeli military police
investigators seen by The Intercept explains how a tragic series of
mistakes by air force, naval, and intelligence officers led to an
airstrike in which four Palestinian boys playing on a beach in Gaza
in 2014 were killed by missiles launched from an armed drone.
Testimony
from the officers involved in the attack, which has been concealed
from the public until now, confirms for the first time that the
children — four cousins ages 10 and 11 — were pursued and killed
by drone operators who somehow mistook them, in broad daylight, for
Hamas militants.
The
testimony raises new questions about whether the attack, which
unfolded in front of dozens of journalists and triggered global
outrage, was carried out with reckless disregard for civilian life
and without proper authorization. After killing the first boy, the
drone operators told investigators, they had sought clarification
from their superiors as to how far along the beach, used by
civilians, they could pursue the fleeing survivors. Less than a
minute later, as the boys ran for their lives, the drone operators
decided to launch a second missile, killing three more children,
despite never getting an answer to their question.
Suhad
Bishara, a lawyer representing the families of the victims, told
The
Intercept that Israel’s use of armed drones to kill Palestinians
poses “many questions concerning human judgment, ethics, and
compliance with international humanitarian law.”
Remotely
piloted bombers “alter the process of human decision-making,”
Bishara said, and the use of the technology in the 2014 beach attack
“expands the circle of people responsible for the actual killing of
the Bakr children.”
Just
hours before the attack, on the morning of July 16, 2014, the public
relations unit of the Israel Defense Forces had been promoting the
idea that the live video feeds provided by drones enabled its air
force to avoid killing Palestinian civilians.
The
PR unit released operational
footage,
apparently taken from the
screens of Israeli drone operators,
which documented how three Israeli airstrikes had been called off
that week because figures, identified as civilians, had appeared
close to targets in the densely populated Gaza Strip.
Those
images were released one week into Israel’s Operation Protective
Edge, a 50-day offensive against Hamas militants in Gaza in which
Israel would eventually kill 1,391
civilians, including 526 children.
Later
that same day, at about 3:30 p.m., an Israeli Hermes 450 surveillance
drone hovering over a beach in Gaza City transmitted images of eight
figures clambering from the strand onto a jetty.
A
small shipping container on the jetty had been destroyed by an
Israeli missile the day before, based on intelligence indicating that
it might have been used by Hamas naval commandos to
store weapons. Some analysts have questioned that intelligence,
however, since there were no secondary explosions after the structure
was hit and journalists staying in nearby hotels reported that no
militants had been seen around the jetty that week.
The
Israeli military police report reviewed by The Intercept documents
what happened next. After one of the figures on the jetty entered the
container that had been destroyed the previous day, an Israeli air
force commander at the Palmachim air base, south of Tel Aviv, ordered
the operators of a second drone, which was armed, to fire a missile
at the container.
AS
MY COLLEAGUESCora
Currier and Henrik Moltke reported in
2016, although the Israeli government maintains an official stance of
secrecy around its use of drones to carry out airstrikes, hacked
Israeli surveillance images provided
to The Intercept by former National Security Agency contractor
Edward Snowden showed an Israeli drone armed with missiles in 2010.
Speaking
privately to a visiting American diplomat after Israel’s 2009
offensive in Gaza, Avichai Mandelblit, who was the country’s chief
military prosecutor at the time and now serves as its attorney
general, acknowledged that two missiles that injured civilians in a
mosque had been fired from an unmanned aerial vehicle, according to
a leaked
State Department cable.
One
reason that Israel might decline to acknowledge that its drones have
been used to kill Palestinian children is that such information could
complicate sales of its drones to foreign governments. In June, the
state-owned company Israel Aerospace Industries signed a $600
million deal to
lease Heron drones to Germany’s defense ministry. That deal was
initially delayed by concerns from German politicians that the
drones, to be used for surveillance, could also be armed. The same
state-owned company has also sold drones to Turkey, a strongly
pro-Palestinian nation, which has nonetheless used the Israeli
technology to bomb Kurds in Iraq.
The
Israeli military police report on the 2014 strike seen by The
Intercept offers the most direct evidence to date that Israel has
used armed drones to launch attacks in Gaza. Testimony from the drone
operators, commanders, and intelligence officers who took part in the
attack confirms that they used an armed drone to fire the missile
that slammed into the jetty, killing the person who had entered the
container, and also to launch a second strike, which killed three of
the survivors as they fled across the beach.
According
to the testimony of one naval officer involved in the strikes, the
mission was initially considered “a great success,” because
the strike team believed, wrongly, that they had killed four Hamas
militants preparing to launch an attack on Israeli forces.
Within
minutes of the two strikes, however, a group of international
journalists who had witnessed the attack from nearby
hotels reported that
the victims torn apart by the missiles were not adult militants
but four
small boys,
cousins who were 10 and 11 years old.
Another
four boys from the same family survived the attack, but were left
with shrapnel wounds and deep
emotional scars.
A
brutal image of the immediate aftermath captured by Tyler Hicks of
the New
York Times,
one of the journalists who witnessed the attack, made the killing of
the four boys, all of them sons of Gaza fishermen from the Bakr
family, reverberate worldwide.
The
French TV correspondent Liseron Boudoul, whose report that day
included distressing
video of
the boys running along the beach before the second strike, noted that
she and other witnesses to the attack were unclear where, exactly,
the missiles had come from — although initial speculation centered
on Israeli naval vessels seen just offshore.
THE
SECRET TESTIMONY from the Israeli military
personnel involved in the attack establishes for the first time that
the drone operators treated the jetty as a free-fire zone on the
mistaken assumption that it was off-limits to anyone but militants.
After
images of the attack prompted widespread outrage, Israel’s army
conducted a review of the mission and recommended that a military
police investigation into possible criminal negligence be conducted.
The testimonies collected by the military police from the strike team
were included in a report presented to Israel’s military advocate
general, Maj. Gen. Danny Efroni, 11 months after the boys were
killed.
Efroni
did not release the testimonies, but did make a summary
of the report’s findings public
on June 11, 2015, when he closed
the investigation
without filing any charges. Israel’s chief military prosecutor
decided that no further criminal or disciplinary measures would be
taken, since the investigators had concluded that “it would not
have been possible for the operational entities involved to have
identified these figures, via aerial surveillance, as children.”
Efroni
did not explain why that was impossible. Two days before the strike
in question, Israel’s military PR unit had released another
video clip
in which drone operators could be heard deciding to halt strikes
because they had identified figures in their live feeds as children.
Adalah,
also known as the Haifa-based Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights
in Israel, has spent the past three years fighting on behalf of the
families of the boys — Ismail Bakr, 10; Ahed Bakr, 10; Zakaria
Bakr, 10; and Mohammed Bakr, 11 — to have the decision not to
prosecute the soldiers overturned by an Israeli court.
Much
of that time has been spent waiting
for Israel’s attorney general,
Mandelblit, to simply reply to appeals filed by Adalah and two Gazan
rights groups, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights and Al Mezan
Center for Human Rights.
In
February, Adalah said in a statement that
Israel’s own investigation “revealed that the Israeli military
did not take any measures to ascertain whether the targets on the
ground were civilians, let alone children, prior to intentionally
directing the attacks against them.”
Bishara,
one of the Adalah lawyers representing the boys’ families, told The
Intercept in a telephone interview that the Israeli investigation of
the killings, in which the military cleared itself of wrongdoing, was
flawed in several ways. To start with, the testimonies were only
collected by the military police four months after the incident, and
only considered what could be seen of the beach through the drone
cameras. No
testimony was taken from
the international journalists who witnessed the attack, and the
accounts of Palestinian witnesses, including written affidavits from
boys injured in the strikes, were discounted.
A Wall
Street Journal video report filed
on the day of the attack by Nick Casey, a correspondent staying
in a hotel close to the jetty, cast doubt on the Israeli intelligence
that designated the site a Hamas compound. Casey’s report, which
featured images of the first young victim’s mangled body being
taken from the jetty, explained that “no one knew why this place
had been bombarded; there have been no Hamas attacks from here and no
rockets that we’ve seen.”
When
the Israeli authorities closed the case in 2015, Alexander Marquardt,
a former ABC Jerusalem correspondent who had also witnessed the
attack, disputed the
finding that the jetty was sealed off from the beach, arguing that it
was open to civilians.
Ondanks
dat Saoedi-Arabië heeft toegegeven dat de aanval op de schoolbus in
Jemen* (het dodental is opgelopen tot 50..) met opzet werd uitgevoerd, in reactie op een raketaanval van de

Nauert durfde zelfs te zeggen dat Saoedi-Arabië van groot strategisch belang is voor de VS (en ach als dat tienduizenden doden kost, het zijn maar sjiitische Jemenieten, ja toch….???)
Vreemd
die reactie van de reguliere media in de VS, daar men normaal
gesproken achter de Saoedische coalitie staat, ook al voert die
coalitie overduidelijk een genocide uit in Jemen, een genocide die
intussen aan alleen al duizenden kinderen het leven heeft gekost……..
Het
meest vreemde aan deze zaak is wel de lauwe westerse ‘reactie’ op
het bewust vermoorden van kinderen, terwijl na een dergelijke (hypothetische) actie
van de Russen en/of het reguliere Syrische leger, de hele westerse wereld op de
kop zou hebben gestaan….. Sterker nog: de VS en anderen hebben Syrië en de

Reporters Slam US for Refusing to Condemn Bombing of School Bus in
Yemen
(ZHE) — Just
as expected, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert refused to
condemn Thursday’s coalition airstrike on a school bus in
Yemen, which left as
many as 50 people dead and 63 injured — the
vast majority of which were children.
As
we reported previously, Saudi-US/UK
coalition jets scored a
direct hit on the school bus packed with children as it drove
through a crowded market place in
Dahyan, in the rebel-held north of Yemen.
During
the State Department’s daily press briefing, Nauert
was asked point blank by journalists, starting with the AP’s Matt
Lee, whether the US condemns the attack.
The
whole testy exchange on Yemen is worth watching, especially as Matt
Lee lays out the case for direct US complicity in the attack on the
bus packed with children from the start of his question: “The
Saudis obviously are the ones who conducted this, but they do that
with weapons supplied by the U.S., with training supplied by the
U.S., and with targeting information, targeting data, supplied by the
U.S. How can something like this happen?” he
said.

drew random incredulous expressions of laughter from the press

simultaneously touting that Washington provides“a
tremendous amount of humanitarian assistance.”
This

mitigate against the devastation that’s taken place there in that
country. I don’t have anything more for you on that.

NAUERT: Well, then – sorry.

as Al
Masdar News reports, UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling for an independent and
prompt investigation into the deadly Saudi-led coalition airstrike
that hit the bus carrying children,
United Nations deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said in a press release.
“The
Secretary-General condemns the air strike today by the coalition
forces in Saada, which hit a busy market area in Majz District, and
impacted a bus carrying children from a summer camp,” Haq said on
Thursday. “He calls for an independent and prompt investigation
into this incident.”
According
to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), citing local
officials,a
total of 50 people died in the attack, while another 77 were injured.
Leader
of the Yemen’s rebel Supreme Revolutionary Committee Mohammed
Houthi on Thursday urged
Russia, China and France to hold an emergency United Nations Security
Council meeting over the attack of the Saudi-led coalition,
local media reported.
According
to the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV, the committee’s leader said that
the coalition’s attack confirmed that the coalition rejects peace
in the region.

Ten eerste stelde ze dat de vechtende partijen, dus de Houthi’s en de Saoedische terreurcoalitie, gelijkwaardige partijen zijn, terwijl de Houthi’s niet eens beschikken over een luchtmacht. Ten tweede durfde ze de leugen te herhalen dat Iran de Houthi’s van wapens voorziet, zoals al vaker op de ze plek verzucht, daar is geen nanometer bewijs voor! De BBC blijft keer op keer de Houthi’s criminaliseren, dit is in het belang van de broodheer van de BBC, de Britse regering, die het ene na het andere enorme wapencontract t.b.v. de reli-fascistische terreurstaat Saoedi-Arabië tekent, contracten voor wapens, munitie en militaire hardware, dus rollend, varend en vliegend oorlogstuig……. Let wel: de BBC zou een onafhankelijke zendgemachtigde zijn…… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!
Het
Pentagon en de CIA, onderdeel van ‘het geheime propaganda ministerie’ van de VS hebben de
directe supervisie gehad over honderden bekende films. Vorig jaar maakten de
schrijvers Tom Secker en Matthew Alford op basis van 4.000 voormalig
geheime documenten bekend hoe het Pentagon en de CIA via programma’s
deelnamen aan het maken van honderden films en tv series en daarbij invloed uitoefenden op het aan het publiek gepresenteerde materiaal….
Je snapt dat de VS overheid ook op deze manier het volk in de VS en de consument buiten de VS hersenspoelt met haar smerige geschiedvervalsing en het goedlullen van de ronduit grootscheepse terreur die het buiten haar grens uitoefent……. (uiteraard worden voor de leugens van de VS overheid niet de typeringen gebruikt die ik hiervoor neerschreef)
Secker
en Alford kwamen aan deze documenten door een beroep te doen op de
‘Freedom of Information Act’ (FOIA), of zoals wij dat noemen een beroep te
doen op de Wet Openbaarheid Bestuur (WOB). Uit de documenten bleek
dat het Pentagon en de CIA achter de schermen hadden meegewerkt aan meer dan 800 belangrijke films en 1.000 tv series en onder druk de strekking van deze films en series hebben bepaald…….
Overigens
zal de oplettende kijker van Hollywood films en series al lang geleden hebben geconcludeerd dat de VS overheid betrokken is bij het propaganda
maken via films of tv series…… Neem alleen al een groot deel van al de A- en B-films en series die werden gemaakt over de Vietnam oorlog, waar zelfs decennia na die oorlog de Noord-Vietnamezen als de wrede en foute tegenstanders van ‘de heldhaftige VS militairen’ worden afgeschilderd……..
‘Heldhaftige VS militairen’ die alleen al in Vietnam verantwoordelijk zijn voor meer dan twee miljoen moorden…… Nog steeds zijn de gevolgen van deze oorlog zichtbaar in Vietnam, bijvoorbeeld de slachtoffers van napalm bombardementen of de slachtoffers die het chemische wapen ‘Agent Orange’ maakte en nog maakt….. (ook Laos en Cambodja werden ‘stiekem’ zwaar gebombardeerd, waarbij ook nog eens honderdduizenden burgers omkwamen…….)
Er worden nu al een aantal jaren films over de illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Irak gemaakt, waarin de VS uiteraard de goede partij is, ondanks dat deze grootste terreurentiteit op aarde met die oorlog verantwoordelijk is voor de moord op meer dan anderhalf miljoen Irakezen……
Niet
alleen de VS maakt zich schuldig aan dit soort propaganda, de Britten
kunnen er ook wat van. De BBC gaat zelfs zover dat men de militaire
missies van de Britten als een vorm van vermaak op tv brengt…. (ook Nederland doet dit…) Twee vliegen in één klap: namelijk het volk tonen dat de Britten
goed bezig zijn in het buitenland, ook al helpen de Britten de
reli-fascistische dictatuur Saoedi-Arabië en zijn daarmee mede
verantwoordelijk voor de genocide die dit land in Jemen
uitvoert……. Voorts zijn dit soort propaganda documentaires goed
voor het ronselen van kinderen voor het leger…….

Movies Made Under the Direct Supervision of the Pentagon
(ZHE) — A
year ago we featured a
detailed report by
authors Tom Secker and Matthew Alford exposing just how vast the
Pentagon and CIA programs for partnering with Hollywood actually are,
based on some 4,000 new pages of formerly classified archived
documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
The report
noted at the time that “These
documents for the first time demonstrate that the US government has
worked behind the scenes on over 800 major movies and more than 1,000
TV titles.”
Reviewing
the ever expanding list, the average movie watcher might be in for a
shock at what films are actually included — there
are the more predictable ones like Black
Hawk Down, Zero Dark Thirty,
and Lone
Survivor;
but also entirely
unexpected ones that apparently needed the military-industrial
complex’s propaganda touch like Earnest
Saves Christmas, Karate
Kid 2, The Silence of the Lambs, Twister,
the Iron
Man movies, and
more recently Pitch
Perfect 3.
When
a Hollywood writer or producer approaches the Pentagon and asks for
access to military assets to help make their film, they have to
submit their script to the entertainment liaison offices for
vetting. Ultimately,
the man with the final say is Phil Strub, the Department of Defense’s
(DOD) chief Hollywood liaison,
who has been at the helm of this formerly semi-secret department
going all the way back to 1989.
If
there are characters, action or dialogue that the DOD doesn’t
approve of then the film-maker has to make changes to accommodate the
military’s demands. If they refuse then the Pentagon packs up its
toys and goes home. To obtain full cooperation the producers have to
sign contracts, called Production Assistance Agreements, which lock
them into using a military-approved version of the script.
Months
ago, Strub was again profiled in a report called Elisting
an Audience: How Hollywood Peddles Propaganda,
which quoted him trying to push back against the growing media
exposure over the past year: “We’re
not trying to brainwash people! We’re out to present the clearest,
truest view,” Strub
told The
Outline.
The
report rightly noted that while Americans generally pride themselves
on living in a free speech anti-censorship society, while
simultaneously mocking the propaganda examples in places like Russia
or China, the US public is subject to more homegrown state-run
propaganda than it thinks:
Military
pageantry in Russia, massive rallies in North Korea, blunt messaging
from China. We
cluck at shameless self-aggrandizing when we see it overseas. But it
doesn’t take much effort to see that American propaganda is
everywhere, too. It’s
not government-made, and it’s not quite as brazen as its
counterpart from abroad. But it’s here, and to ignore that a piece
of content is, at its core, propaganda — especially these days,
while Trump openly pines for grand army parades — is a mistake.
“There’s all kinds of ways to make an ideological point,”
Harris added. “Sometimes
I do think we’re not attuned enough. We do not look hard enough for
propaganda.”
And
what’s more, unlike in authoritarian systems, in the West it is the
consumers that are actually willing, if perhaps unwitting,
participants in state propaganda. The

Certainly,
the content has alternative, sincere agendas, too, but it’s the
giant, amorphous market of consumers that has called it forth. That’s
the difference between our propaganda and everyone else’s. In
autocratic regimes, a government-backed entity pushes it onto
indifferent or unwilling consumers. In America, we, the consumers,
happily demand it.
