Ondanks
dat er in Afghanistan al rond de half miljoen slachtoffers zijn vermoord in de illegale oorlog die de VS tegen
Afghanistan begon in 2001, denken de commandanten van het VS leger, met een intensivering van de terreur op de bevolking, de Taliban te kunnen
dwingen tot overleg……….
Hoe
psychopathisch en door en door verrot moet je zijn om te denken dat je met het nog verder
vergroten van het aantal slachtoffers tot vrede kan komen??!!!
Escalatie zal leiden tot een heviger inzet van de Taliban, die de VS
en haar NAVO bondgenoten terecht als bezettingsmacht zien en daarbij zal
vooral het Afghaanse volk slachtoffer worden van heviger VS
agressie……..
Het
westen dient zich terug te trekken uit het gehele Midden-Oosten (en
alle andere niet westerse landen!), waartoe ik ook Afghanistan reken,
de enige weg naar vrede…….
Voorts
dient er als de sodemieter een grootschalig onderzoek ingesteld
worden naar alle oorlogsmisdaden die het westen in Afghanistan en de
rest van het Midden-Oosten heeft gepleegd. De verantwoordelijke
westerse politici die blindelings de VS agressie volgden met
politieke en militaire steun, dienen zeker te worden vervolgd voor
hun verantwoordelijkheid t.a.v. het enorme aantal doden…..
In
Nederland zijn de direct verantwoordelijken CDA plorken Balkenende en zijn partijcollega tevens oorlogshitser de Hoop Scheffer, VVD leugenaar Rutte en verder de rest
van de verantwoordelijke ministers en staatssecretarissen op het ministerie van Defensie uh, Oorlog en Buitenlandse Zaken, die onder de regeringen Balkenende en Rutte
werkten dan wel nog werken. Al deze figuren staan tot de knieën in het bloed van de waarschijnlijk meer dan 400.000 slachtoffers…..
Vergeet
niet dat sinds het jaar 2000 er al meer dan 2,5 miljoen mensen zijn
vermoord middels VS en NAVO agressie in het Midden-Oosten en Libië,
niet alleen in illegale oorlogen, maar ook met het vermoorden van
verdachten middels drones; nogmaals >> het gaat om: verdachten…. Naast
die niet in een wettig proces veroordeelde verdachten, was meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers die omkwamen bij deze
moordaanslagen niet eens verdacht, dus vooral vrouwen en kinderen……
US
Commanders Seek Military Escalation in Afghanistan
(ANTIWAR.COM) — Increasingly
resigned to the reality that the US simply isn’t going to stumble
into a military victory in Afghanistan, US military commanders are
looking to redouble their efforts. The goal now is to not just kill
people, but “shape
the political environment” ahead
of negotiations.
Officials
now see their goal increasingly as bolstering America’s bargaining
position in inevitable negotiations with the Taliban. Their tactics
for this are, unfortunately, further escalation of the raids and
airstrikes that failed to win the war in the first place.
“You
turn the dial up,” Gen. Miller said of the US intentions now that
they think the Taliban are willing to negotiate. The assumption is
that the Taliban will want an end to the war and start making
concessions to avoid further US escalations.
Yet
this ignores the entire 17+ year history of the war, in which the
Taliban has always been content to wait out US surges, particularly
those that seem extremely temporary, and continue to amass gains
where they can.
PS: onverdraaglijk en schandalig dat Nederland nog steeds Afghanen uitzet naar hun moederland, daar het veilig zou zijn…… Bovendien is dat een grove schending van het VN Vluchtelingenverdrag!! Buitenlandse Zaken moet zich de oren van de kop schamen dat het uiterst valse ‘ambtsberichten’ gebruikt om een volkomen verkeerde situatie te schetsen….. Het is overduidelijk dat de corrupte Oekraïense neonazi-junta de aandacht van de
bevolking wil afleiden van de desastreuze economische situatie in het
land, dit door Rusland uit te dagen…… Zo zijn er grote tekorten aan verwarming in veel Oekraïense steden en wordt grofgraaier Porosjenko, de junta leider, nog door 8% van de Oekraïners gesteund…… Als dat je nog niet heeft overtuigd,
heeft junta leider Porosjenko NAVO oorlogsschepen te hulp geroepen
in de strijd tegen ‘Russische expansie agressie’ in de Zee van
Azov……..
Met
opzet stuurde de Oekraïense junta 3 marineschepen naar de Zee van
Azov, zonder de Russen om toestemming te vragen door de Straat van
Kertsj te mogen varen, zoals was afgesproken tussen Oekraïne en Rusland……
Vervolgens
begaven de schepen zich in door de Russen als verboden aangewezen zeegebied…… Niet zo vreemd dat verboden zeegebied, als je ziet dat Oekraïne al meerdere marineoefeningen
met de VS heeft gehouden waarbij landingen werden gesimuleerd,
simulaties voor het binnenvallen van het nu Russische schiereiland De
Krim…….
De Krim
dat zich na de door de VS georganiseerde opstand, die resulteerde in
een staatsgreep tegen de democratisch gekozen regering Janoekovytsj,
afscheidde van Oekraïne en zich na een door buitenlandse waarnemers
als goed en eerlijk beoordeeld referendum, aansloot bij Rusland, een duidelijke streep door de VS rekening van 4 miljard dollar…..* Waar het westen
o.l.v. de VS consequent blijft volhouden dat Rusland De Krim heeft
geannexeerd…….
Terig naar het incident met de Oekraïense marineschepen: Niet
voor niets hadden de Oekraïense marineschepen inlichtingenofficieren
aan boord, men wilde de reactiesnelheid van de Russen uittesten en
die was redelijk snel zoals we nu weten.
Porosjenko’s
opzet (uiteraard met hulp van de CIA) om Rusland verder te
demoniseren is gelukt, nu wil hij zijn winst omzetten in een NAVO
oorlog tegen Rusland, waar niet vergeten moet worden dat de NAVO
onder opperbevel staat van de, meest agressieve staat ter wereld,
terreurentiteit VS (de VS dat meer dan 800 militaire bases heeft over
de wereld, een land dat alleen deze eeuw al 4 illegale oorlogen is
begonnen…)…..
In de
reguliere westerse media wordt plompverloren gezegd dat Rusland de
boel provoceert, zoals vanmorgen weer op BBC World Service radio,
waar de correspondenten uit Rusland en Oekraïne, een stuk
anti-Russische propaganda brachten, waar de honden geen droog brood
van lusten…. Alle cliché’s kwamen voorbij, tot en met ‘de oorlog’
van Rusland tegen Georgië (een grove leugen**)…… Je snapt
dat Rusland als de grote schuldige werd aangewezen in de zaak van de
opgebrachte Oekraïense marineschepen…..
Trouwens
totaal ongeloofwaardig, die houding van de reguliere media, hoe durft
men daar nog zonder de zaak van meerdere kanten te bekijken, te
stellen dat Rusland ook in deze fout was, men spreekt niet eens over
de afspraak dat schepen zich moeten aanmelden bij de Russen voordat
ze door de Straat van Kertsj mogen varen. Niet vreemd dat de
Russen dit verlangen, immers men moet onder een Russische brug
doorvaren, een brug die de VS en Oekraïne nog liever vandaag dan
morgen zouden opblazen…… Dit nog naast de eerder aangehaalde
marine landingsoefeningen op de kust van De Krim….. Nogmaals:
Rusland heeft alle reden achterdochtig te zijn!!
Intussen draaien de westerse media de boel op de kop, de eerder aangehaalde BBC correspondenten stelden dat het niet gaat om de tanende populariteit van Porosjenko, die door 8% van de bevolking wordt gesteund, maar om die van Putin, daar die ‘nog maar’ door 66% van de bevolking wordt gesteund, terwijl dat eerder 88% was….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Wat een bedriegers!!
Een WDR correspondent in Rusland maakte het gistermiddag helemaal bont door te stellen dat Janoekovytsj niet werd afgezet middels een staatsgreep, maar dat hij zelf was gevlucht…… Terwijl dit soort ‘journalisten’ wel degelijk over een staatsgreep spreken als een door hen gepromoot leider iets dergelijks overkomt…… Bovendien werden na die coup een aantal media gesloten en werden politieke partijen verboden die liever vriendschapsbanden onderhouden met Rusland…… Voorts werden critici en journalisten bedreigd door neonazi-groepen die vrij schieten hebben in Oekraïne……
Fatsoenlijke, echte journalisten hadden hier al lang terecht moord en brand over geschreeuwd!! Verder durfde deze Duitse correspondent te zeggen dat de expansie van de NAVO volkomen legaal is, er zouden geen afspraak is gemaakt over de uitbreiding van de NAVO richting Moskou, terwijl er al lang documenten zijn gevonden, die bewijzen dat die afspraak er wel degelijk lag!! Volgens deze valse correspondent is de afspraak ongeldig daar hij werd gesloten met een Sovjet president, t.w. Gorbatsjov…… Echter de afspraak werd gemaakt voor de toekomst en dat op een tijdstip waar het al lang duidelijk was dat de Sovjet-Unie zou ophouden te bestaan……Ach je roept het als ‘journalist’ 10 keer op een landelijke omroep en bijna iedereen gelooft de anti-Russische propaganda…… (die hen dagelijks door de strot wordt geduwd als ging het om het fabriceren van foie gras……. Al worden ganzen daarvoor vreselijk gemarteld…)
Ukraine
Urges NATO to Send Warships to Confront Russia
As
a practical matter, NATO nations are severely limited in the warships
they could send to the area by the 1936 Montreux Convention***, which
severely limits the number of warships allowed to pass through the
Bosporus Straits.
This
means that even if Germany had a vast navy, which
it doesn’t,
they would not legally be able to deploy large numbers in the Black
Sea or Sea of Azov, and certainly would need more than a couple of
frigates to square off with the entire Russian Black Sea Fleet.

“Leaked State Department documents provide further evidence that United States authorities knew that the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia, a key ally of Washington in the Caucasus region, initiated the August 2008 war with Russia.
“Cables from US diplomats in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, were released through the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. They show that Washington was well aware that the Georgian government was intensifying its military build-up near the breakaway province of South Ossetia in the weeks before the outbreak of full-scale hostilities.” (5)
Further:
“A cable records that US embassy observers witnessed 30 government buses ‘carrying uniformed men heading north’ towards South Ossetia the day of the Georgian attack.
“The Georgian assault on South Ossetia, launched August 7, involved the shelling of the main city of Tskhinvali followed by a ground invasion by 1,500 troops. The operation destroyed hundreds of civilian properties and claimed the lives of an estimated 160 South Ossetians and 48 Russian military personnel.
“Despite this knowledge of Georgian military preparations, once the war began, US ambassador John Tefft simply relayed the claims of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili that Russia was the aggressor.”
The pretext for the attack was US ally Georgia’s allegation of an imminent Russian attack.
The subsequent investigation into the invasion and destruction, held under Swiss diplomat Heidi Tagliavini, found that: “None of the explanations given by the Georgian authorities in order to provide some form of legal justification for the attack”, were valid.
“In particular, there was no massive Russian military invasion under way, which had to be stopped by Georgian military forces,” Tagliavini confirmed.
“There is the question of whether the force by Georgia during the night of 7/8 August was justifiable under international law. It was not …”, the investigators found.
It was:
“The shelling of Tskhinvali by the Georgian armed forces during the night of 7 to 8 August 2008” which “marked the beginning of the large-scale armed conflict in Georgia”, the Report stated. Thus Georgia’s belligerence triggered Russia’s response in defence of an allied country, Russia’s own military personnel and Russia’s three military bases there.
The parallels between the Georgia and Crimea disinformation are stark, whether orchestrated by political Western Cold Warriors, or media ones.
Onlangs
kwam The Guardian met het verhaal dat Paul Manafort contact zou
hebben gehad met Julian Assange in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in
Londen. Een verhaal dat als onzin werd doorgeprikt met aantoonbare
leugens in The Guardian. Zelfs reguliere mediaorganen twijfelden aan
het artikel.
Blijkbaar
vond The Guardian het gebrachte artikel daarna zelf ook dubieus, daar
men de tekst heeft aangepast, zonder daar echter melding van te
maken. In de aangepaste tekst wordt nu gesproken over anonieme, niet
te controleren bronnen……. De schrijver van het Guardian
propagandistische artikel, Luke Harding, stelde in het artikel dat
Manafort meermaals werd gezien in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade en dat
één keer ‘zelfs met 2 Russen….’
Met het
Guardian artikel toonde Harding zogenaamd aan dat Assange contacten
had met de Russen en dat die na het hacken van de DNC server, de emails van Hillary Clinton zouden
hebben doen toekomen aan WikiLeaks, ofwel één van ‘de
smoking guns’ in het Russiagate sprookje….. Kortom de Russen en
Assange zouden hebben samengespannen om Clinton haar presidentschap
door de neus te boren…..
Uiteraard
gebruiken ook de democraten in de VS het fantasie verhaal van Harding om te
stellen dat Assange en Rusland de presidentsverkiezingen van hen
hebben gestolen, terwijl echte deskundigen en ingewijden uitvoerig
stellen, dat de emails werden gelekt vanuit het campagneteam van
Clinton, waar de naam Seth Rich telkens weer opduikt……
Seth Rich
was medewerker van het campagneteam, hij was zwaar gefrustreerd over
de smerige spelletjes van Clinton en de top van haar campagneteam, om de voorverkiezing in 2016 van Bernie Sanders te stelen…….. Sanders was
de tweede belangrijke democratische kandidaat voor het presidentschap
in de VS. Zelfs Obama gaf toe dat e.e.a door het campagneteam werd gelekt naar WikiLeaks….*
Rich
werd vermoord, kort nadat de mails waren gelekt naar WikiLeaks, volgens de politie ging het om een roofmoord, waarbij Rich vreemd genoeg niet werd beroofd
en zelfs dure sieraden niet werden gestolen…….. De poging om Sanders buiten
spel te zetten is gelukt, zoals we al en paar jaar weten.
Manafort
heeft ontkent dat hij zelfs maar één keer met Assange heeft
gesproken en Assange heeft The Guardian gedreigd met een proces
wegens laster…… De bedoeling in het hele Russiagate verhaal is
dan ook Assange als spion neer te zetten, ofwel hij heeft geen recht op bescherming zoals dit het geval zou moeten zijn met (onderzoeks-) journalisten, waarbij WikiLeaks wordt weggezet als een staatsvijandig
vehikel van de Russen…… Waarmee de democraten dan de schuld van het
verlies van de verkiezingen in de schoenen schuiven van WikiLeaks,
haar oprichter Assange en uiteraard de Russen…..**
Met
artikelen als die van Harding in The Guardian moet de publieke opinie
voorbereid worden op het uit de Ecuadoraanse ambassade zetten van
Assange en de arrestatie van deze journalist, die zich met niets anders dan
zijn werk bezighield, dit in sterke tegenstelling tot het overgrote deel van de
journalisten, die voor de reguliere westerse (massa-) media
werken…….
Deze
media hebben i.p.v. Assange te steunen, een taak van onafhankelijke mediaorganen en hun journalisten, hem zwart gemaakt in de publieke opinie,
waarbij zelfs werd gesteld dat Assange alleen de Ecuadoraanse
ambassade in vluchtte, om publiciteit te genereren…. Gelukkig voor
Assange werd ook die belachelijke claim doorgeprikt, toen per
ongeluk stukken werden gepubliceerd waaruit bleek dat de VS een
aanklacht heeft opgesteld voor Assange en op grond waarvan Assange
een lange gevangenisstraf te wachten staat…….
The
Guardian ging zelfs zover dat het een VN panel met experts
belachelijk probeerde te maken, die stelden dat het totaal
onwettelijk was dat Assange niet zonder gearresteerd te worden de
ambassade zou kunnen verlaten…..
De
schrijver van het artikel hieronder, Jonathan Cook, haalt ook Glenn
Greenwald aan, waar het om de claim gaat dat Manafort Assange zou
hebben bezocht. Deze stelt dat het onmogelijk is om ongezien de
Ecuadoraanse ambassade binnen te komen, daar Londen propvol camera’s
hangt en de Ecuadoraanse ambassade, sinds Assange daar binnen
vluchtte, van alle kanten in de gaten werd en wordt gehouden, niet alleen
door camera’s, de politie, maar ook door journalisten……
Als
Manafort inderdaad in de ambassade zou zijn geweest, volgens The
Guardian 3 keer, in 2013, 2015 en 2016, zouden daar zeker bewijzen
voor zijn…….
Intussen is The Guardian gekomen met een volgens deze fake news brenger nog betere fundering van de (ongefundeerde) beschuldigingen aan het adres van Assange (en WikiLeaks) en zijn zogenaamde verbintenis met Rusland, ook nu weer geen enkel bewijs……. Assange zal en moet hangen en in dit geval door een mediaorgaan dat stelt onafhankelijk te zijn en haar berichtgeving dubbel zou checken….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

The
Guardian Continues to Escalate Its Vilification of Julian Assange
The
Guardian did not make a mistake in vilifying Assange without a shred
of evidence. It did what it is designed to do.***
(CD) — It
is welcome that finally there has been a little pushback, including
from leading journalists, to the Guardian’s long-running
vilification of Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks.
Reporter
Luke Harding’s latest article, claiming that
Donald Trump’s disgraced former campaign manager Paul Manafort
secretly visited Assange in Ecuador’s embassy in London on three
occasions, is so full of holes that even hardened opponents of
Assange in the corporate media are struggling to stand by it.
Faced
with the backlash, the Guardian quickly – and very quietly – rowed
back its
initial certainty that its story was based on verified facts.
Instead, it amended the text, without acknowledging it had done so,
to attribute the claims to unnamed, and uncheckable, “sources”.
The
propaganda function of the piece is patent. It is intended to provide
evidence for long-standing allegations that Assange conspired with
Trump, and Trump’s supposed backers in the Kremlin, to damage
Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race.
The
Guardian’s latest story provides a supposedly stronger foundation
for an existing narrative: that Assange and Wikileaks knowingly
published emails hacked by Russia from the Democratic party’s
servers. In truth, there is no
public evidence that
the emails were hacked, or that Russia was involved. Central actors
have suggested instead that the emails were leaked from within the
Democratic party.
Nonetheless,
this unverified allegation has been aggressively exploited by the
Democratic leadership because it shifts attention away both from its
failure to mount an effective electoral challenge to Trump and from
the damaging contents of the emails. These show that party
bureaucrats sought to rig
the primaries to
make sure Clinton’s challenger for the Democratic nomination,
Bernie Sanders, lost.
To
underscore the intended effect of the Guardian’s new claims,
Harding even throws in a casual and unsubstantiated reference to
“Russians” joining Manafort in supposedly meeting Assange.
Manafort
has denied the
Guardian’s claims, while Assange has threatened to sue the
Guardian for libel.
‘Responsible
for Trump’
The
emotional impact of the Guardian story is to suggest that Assange is
responsible for four years or more of Trump rule. But more
significantly, it bolsters the otherwise risible
claim that
Assange is not a publisher – and thereby entitled to the
protections of a free press, as enjoyed by the Guardian or the New
York Times – but the head of an organisation engaged in espionage
for a foreign power.
The
intention is to deeply discredit Assange, and by extension the
Wikileaks organisation, in the eyes of right-thinking liberals. That,
in turn, will make it much easier to silence Assange and the vital
cause he represents: the use of new media to hold to account the old,
corporate media and political elites through the imposition of far
greater transparency.
The
Guardian story will prepare public opinion for the moment when
Ecuador’s rightwing government under President Lenin Moreno forces
Assange out of the embassy, having already withdrawn most of his
rights to use digital media.
It
will soften opposition when the UK moves to arrest Assange
on self-serving
bail violation charges and
extradites him to the US. And it will pave the way for the US legal
system to lock Assange up for a very long time.
For
the best part of a decade, any claims by Assange’s supporters that
avoiding this fate was the reason Assange originally sought asylum in
the embassy was ridiculed by corporate journalists, not least at the
Guardian.
Even
when a United Nations panel of experts in international law ruled in
2016 that Assange was being arbitrarily – and unlawfully –
detained by the UK, Guardian writers led efforts to discredit the UN
report. See here and here.
Now
Assange and his supporters have been proved right once again. An
administrative error this month revealed that the US justice
department had secretly
filed criminal charges against
Assange.
Heavy
surveillance
The
problem for the Guardian, which should have been obvious to its
editors from the outset, is that any visits by Manafort would be
easily verifiable without relying on unnamed “sources”.
Glenn
Greenwald is far from alone in noting that
London is possibly the most surveilled city in the world, with CCTV
cameras everywhere. The environs of the Ecuadorian embassy are
monitored especially heavily, with continuous filming by the UK and
Ecuadorian authorities and most likely by the US and other actors
with an interest in Assange’s fate.
The
idea that Manafort or “Russians” could have wandered into the
embassy to meet Assange even once without their trail, entry and
meeting being intimately scrutinised and recorded is simply
preposterous.
According
to Greenwald: “If Paul Manafort … visited Assange at the Embassy,
there would be ample amounts of video and other photographic proof
demonstrating that this happened. The Guardian provides none of
that.”
Former
British ambassador Craig Murray also points
out the
extensive security checks insisted on by the embassy to which any
visitor to Assange must submit. Any visits by Manafort would have
been logged.
In
fact, the Guardian obtained the
embassy’s logs in May, and has never made any mention of either
Manafort or “Russians” being identified in them. It did not refer
to the logs in its latest story.
Murray:
The
problem with this latest fabrication is that [Ecuador’s President]
Moreno had already released the visitor logs to the Mueller inquiry.
Neither Manafort nor these ‘Russians’ are in the visitor logs …
What possible motive would the Ecuadorean government have for
facilitating secret unrecorded visits by Paul Manafort?Furthermore
it is impossible that the intelligence agency – who were in charge
of the security – would not know the identity of these alleged
‘Russians’.
No
fact-checking
It
is worth noting it should be vitally important for a serious
publication like the Guardian to ensure its claims are unassailably
true – both because Assange’s personal fate rests on their
veracity, and because, even more importantly, a fundamental right,
the freedom of the press, is at stake.
Given
this, one would have expected the Guardian’s editors to have
insisted on the most stringent checks imaginable before going to
press with Harding’s story. At a very minimum, they should have
sought out a response from Assange and Manafort before publication.
Neither precaution was taken.
I
worked for the Guardian for a number of years, and know well the
layers of checks that any highly sensitive story has to go through
before publication. In that lengthy process, a variety of
commissioning editors, lawyers, backbench editors and the editor
herself, Kath Viner, would normally insist on cuts to anything that
could not be rigorously defended and corroborated.
And
yet this piece seems to have been casually waved through, given a
green light even though its profound shortcomings were evident to a
range of well-placed analysts and journalists from the outset.
That
at the very least hints that the Guardian thought they had
“insurance” on this story. And the only people who could have
promised that kind of insurance are the security and intelligence
services – presumably of Britain, the United States and / or
Ecuador.
It
appears the Guardian has simply taken this story, provided by spooks,
at face value. Even if it later turns out that Manafort did visit
Assange, the Guardian clearly had no compelling evidence for its
claims when it published them. That is profoundly irresponsible
journalism – fake news – that should be of the gravest concern to
readers.
A
pattern, not an aberration
Despite
all this, even analysts critical of the Guardian’s behaviour have
shown a glaring failure to understand that its latest coverage
represents not an aberration by the paper but decisively fits with a
pattern.
Glenn
Greenwald, who once had an influential column in the Guardian until
an apparent, though unacknowledged, falling out with his employer
over the Edward Snowden revelations, wrote a series of baffling
observations about the Guardian’s latest story.
First,
he suggested it
was simply evidence of the Guardian’s long-standing (and
well-documented) hostility towards Assange.
“The
Guardian, an otherwise solid and reliable paper, has such a pervasive
and unprofessionally personal hatred for Julian Assange that it has
frequently dispensed with all journalistic standards in order to
malign him.”
It
was also apparently evidence of the paper’s clickbait tendencies:
“They
[Guardian editors] knew that publishing this story would cause
partisan warriors to excitedly spread the story, and that cable news
outlets would hyperventilate over it, and that they’d reap the
rewards regardless of whether the story turned out to be true or
false.”
And
finally, in a bizarre tweet, Greenwald opined, “I hope the story
[maligning Assange] turns out true” – apparently because
maintenance of the Guardian’s reputation is more important than
Assange’s fate and the right of journalists to dig up embarrassing
secrets without fear of being imprisoned.
The reason it will be so devastating to the Guardian if this story turns out false is because the Guardian has an institutional hatred for Assange. They’ve proven they’ll dispense with journalistic standards for it. And factions within Ecuador’s government know they can use them.
What
this misses is that the Guardian’s attacks on Assange are not
exceptional or motivated solely by personal animosity. They are
entirely predictable and systematic. Rather than being the reason for
the Guardian violating basic journalistic standards and ethics, the
paper’s hatred of Assange is a symptom of a deeper malaise in the
Guardian and the wider corporate media.
Even
aside from its decade-long campaign against Assange, the Guardian is
far from “solid and reliable”, as Greenwald claims. It has been
at the forefront of the relentless, and unhinged, attacks on Labour
leader Jeremy Corbyn for prioritising the rights of Palestinians over
Israel’s right to continue its belligerent occupation. Over the
past three years, the Guardian has injected credibility into the
Israel lobby’s desperate efforts to tar Corbyn as an anti-semite.

Similarly,
the Guardian worked tirelessly to promote Clinton and undermine
Sanders in the 2016 Democratic nomination process – another reason
the paper has been so assiduous in promoting the idea that Assange,
aided by Russia, was determined to promote Trump over Clinton for the
presidency.
The
Guardian’s coverage of Latin America, especially of populist
leftwing governments that have rebelled against traditional and
oppressive US hegemony in the region, has long grated with analysts
and experts. Its especial venom has been reserved for leftwing
figures like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, democratically elected but
official enemies of the US, rather than the region’s rightwing
authoritarians beloved of Washington.
The
Guardian has been vocal in the so-called “fake news” hysteria,
decrying the influence of social media, the only place where leftwing
dissidents have managed to find a small foothold to promote their
politics and counter the corporate media narrative.
The
Guardian has painted social media chiefly as a platform overrun by
Russian trolls, arguing that this should justify ever-tighter
restrictions that have so far curbed critical voices of the dissident
left more than the right.
Heroes
of the neoliberal order
Equally,
the Guardian has made clear who its true heroes are. Certainly not
Corbyn or Assange, who threaten to disrupt the entrenched neoliberal
order that is hurtling us towards climate breakdown and economic
collapse.
Its
pages, however, are readily available to the latest effort to prop up
the status quo from Tony Blair, the man who led Britain, on false
pretences, into the largest crime against humanity in living memory –
the attack on Iraq.
That
“humanitarian intervention” cost the lives of many hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis and created a vacuum that destabilised much of
the Middle East, sucked in Islamic jihadists like al-Qaeda and ISIS,
and contributed to the migrant crisis in Europe that has fuelled the
resurgence of the far-right. None of that is discussed in the
Guardian or considered grounds for disqualifying Blair as an arbiter
of what is good for Britain and the world’s future.
The
Guardian also has an especial soft spot for blogger Elliot Higgins,
who, aided by the Guardian, has shot to unlikely prominence as a
self-styled “weapons expert”. Like Luke Harding, Higgins
invariably seems ready to echo whatever the British and American
security services need verifying “independently”.
Higgins
and his well-staffed website Bellingcat have taken on for themselves
the role of arbiters of truth on many foreign affairs issues, taking
a prominent role in advocating for narratives that promote US and
NATO hegemony while demonising Russia, especially in highly contested
arenas such as Syria.
That
clear partisanship should be no surprise, given that Higgins now
enjoys an “academic” position at, and funding from, the Atlantic
Council, a high-level, Washington-based think-tank founded to drum up
support for NATO and justify its imperialist agenda.
Improbably,
the Guardian has adopted Higgins as the poster-boy for a supposed
citizen journalism it has sought to undermine as “fake news”
whenever it occurs on social media without the endorsement of
state-backed organisations.
The
truth is that the Guardian has not erred in this latest story
attacking Assange, or in its much longer-running campaign to vilify
him. With this story, it has done what it regularly does when
supposedly vital western foreign policy interests are at stake – it
simply regurgitates an elite-serving, western narrative.
Its
job is to shore up a consensus on the left for attacks on leading
threats to the existing, neoliberal order: whether they are a
platform like Wikileaks promoting whistle-blowing against a corrupt
western elite; or a politician like Jeremy Corbyn seeking to break
apart the status quo on the rapacious financial industries or
Israel-Palestine; or a radical leader like Hugo Chavez who threatened
to overturn a damaging and exploitative US dominance of “America’s
backyard”; or social media dissidents who have started to chip away
at the elite-friendly narratives of corporate media, including the
Guardian.
The
Guardian did not make a mistake in vilifying Assange without a shred
of evidence. It did what it is designed to do.

De Oekraïense junta in Kiev zoekt alweer ruzie met Rusland, dit daar de
populariteit van deze junta nog nooit zo laag lag (op 8%) en het land
failliet is (op de been gehouden met o.a. ons belastinggeld). Bovendien is in veel steden van Oekraïne de verwarming uitgevallen en is er in grote delen van Kiev geen warm water voorhanden en dat bij temperaturen onder nul…….
Om
de Russen uit te dagen liet de Oekraïense marine 2 marineschepen en een
sleper de Straat van Kertsj binnenvaren, deze Straat is de verbinding tussen de Zwarte Zee en de Zee van Azov. Rusland heeft de controle
over de Straat van Kertsj en schepen moeten toestemming vragen aan Rusland om daar doorheen te varen (het gaat hier tenslotte om Russische territoriale wateren)……
De bewuste schepen weigerden toestemming te vragen en voeren door (als ik het goed begrepen heb ook nog eens richting een deel van de Zee van Azov dat Rusland uit veiligheidsoverwegingen heeft gesloten voor scheepsverkeer*). Ofwel de neonazi-junta in Kiev heeft doelbewust aangestuurd op een confrontatie met Rusland en deze gekregen…..
Uiteraard
waren de NAVO, haar feitelijke baas de VS en de EU er als de kippen
bij om hun verontwaardiging uit te spreken…… Dezelfde partijen
die er het zwijgen toe doen als terreurgroepen uit Oekraïne tekeergaan met aanslagen in De Krim, hetzelfde geldt voor de Oekraïense bombardementen op steden (een zware oorlogsmisdaad) in het oosten van Oekraïne, waar
de bevolking zich volkomen terecht heeft afgescheiden van Oekraïne,
nadat de VS middels een gewelddadige opstand de o.a. door de
bevolking van Oost-Oekraïne en De Krim democratisch gekozen regering
Janoekovytsj heeft afgezet en de uitermate corrupte neonazi-junta
Porosjenko heeft geïnstalleerd….. Hoofdverantwoordelijke voor die
coup is hare kwaadaardigheid Hillary Clinton, destijds VS minister
van buitenlandse zaken…… (e.e.a. heeft de VS 4 miljard dollar gekost**)
Om
de boel verder op de spits te drijven heeft juntaleider Porosjenko
de staat van beleg afgekondigd….. Twee vliegen in één klap,
immers als de staat van beleg van kracht is, kan men verkiezingen
uitstellen, zoals de presidentsverkiezingen van 31 maart volgend
jaar……. Tevens kan men tijdens de staat van beleg de Oekraïense politici, activisten en andere critici van de Porosjenko neonazi-junta, die terug willen naar de democratie, de mond
snoeren….. (op kritiek staat onder de staat van beleg zelfs een gevangenisstraf van 5 jaar…)
Een ‘win win situatie’ (om een dom cliché aan te halen), immers mocht de junta besluiten de verkiezingen toch door te laten gaan, kan de Porosjenko junta vanwege de staat van beleg alle critici de mond snoeren en
hen desnoods gevangen zetten, zoals er nu al veel critici vastzitten……. Waarmee deze mensen en anderen die onder huisarrest staan, de kans wordt ontnomen om campagne te
voeren….. Ook de pers is aan banden gelegd in Oekraïne, iets waar je het westen niet over hoort…… Overigens heeft Oekraïne al politieke partijen verboden
die achter de vorige wel democratisch verkozen president
Janoekovytsj stonden, of andere partijen die vriendschappelijke betrekkingen willen
aanknopen met Rusland……
Vergeet
niet dat Oekraïne de laatste jaren meermaals marine oefeningen met de
VS heeft gehouden, daarbij werden o.a. landingen
gesimuleerd op de kust van De Krim…… Hetzelfde schiereiland dat
zich op dezelfde gronden als de bewoners van Oost-Oekraïne, in een
door internationale waarnemers als goed en eerlijk verlopen
referendum afscheidde van Oekraïne en zich aansloot bij Rusland**.
Echter volgens de EU, de NAVO-lidstaten en de VS heeft Rusland De
Krim geannexeerd, een pertinente leugen die men keer op keer blijft
herhalen, ook in de reguliere westerse media, terwijl deze de
waarheid dondersgoed kennen, maar door dik en dun de agressie van de
VS en haar oorlogshond de NAVO blijven verdedigen als onontkoombare
ingrepen……
Zie
wat betreft deze agressie alleen al de illegale oorlogen die de VS
deze eeuw begon en waarbij intussen bijna 2,5 miljoen mensen werden
vermoord, verdedigd door diezelfde reguliere westerse media, waarbij
de zogenaamde onafhankelijke reguliere westerse media op grote schaal
gebruik maakte en maakt van fake news (nepnieuws)……. Ook bij het
door Oekraïne uitgelokte conflict in de Zee van Azov staan deze
zogenaamde onafhankelijke media aan de kant van de Oekraïense junta
en wordt Rusland agressie verweten…….
De
stap van Oekraïne om de staat van beleg af te kondigen komt de VS en
de NAVO goed uit, daar die al een paar jaar bezig zijn oorlog te zoeken met Rusland…… Je kan e.e.a. bijvoorbeeld opmaken uit de voortdurende militaire oefeningen van de NAVO langs de westgrens met Rusland…… Zo is nog maar net een grote luchtmachtoefening
in Oekraïne afgerond waar de NAVO o.l.v. de VS oefende op een oorlog
met Rusland, een oefening die het verlengde was van een marine
oefening van de VS en Japan plus de grote NAVO-oefening in Noorwegen,
Trident Juncture…….
Aan de luchtmachtoefening in Oekraïne (dat nog geen NAVO-partner is) deden ook Roemenië en
Polen mee, die een ‘raketschild van de VS op hun grondgebied hebben, een schild waar de antiraketraketten in een mum van tijd met kernkoppen
kunnen worden uitgerust en zo kan de VS het INF-verdrag overtredend, Rusland op
zeer korte afstand bestoken met kernraketten…….

Ukraine
Declares Martial Law as Tensions With Russia Soar
(ANTIWAR.COM) — Following
up on Sunday’s maritime incident in the Sea of Azov, the Ukrainian
parliament voted Monday on a declaration
of martial law. They
are presenting this as a “partial
mobilization” of
the military as officials hype the possibility of war with Russia.
The
martial law will formally begin on Wednesday, and last for 30 days.
President Petro Poroshenko said he intends to respect the rights of
individual Ukrainian citizens during this period.
Importantly,
Ukrainian officials are emphasizing that this move
is short of a declaration of war on
Russia. On Sunday, officials had said the National Security and
Defense Council was meeting and intended to declare a “state of
war,” though it does not appear any public declaration happened.
On
Sunday, three Ukrainian ships crossed into Russian territorial
waters, and were seized. Russia said this area of the Sea of Azov was
closed for security reasons. Ukraine is demanding the return of the
ships and the sailors. Russia says they are temporarily impounded,
and that the three sailors wounded in the incident
have already been treated and are in no medical danger.
Russian
officials are downplaying the incident as a minor one, while
Ukrainian officials are already identifying a series of border areas
that they expect ground troops to invade. Ukraine has been predicting
a Russian invasion for years.
As
is often the case, the US and NATO are embracing the Ukrainian
narrative, and condemning Russia. Such condemnations come as a matter
of course, but so far, are stopping short of any threats to escalate
this militarily into a global war.
US,
NATO Slam Russia Over Maritime Dispute With Ukraine
(ANTIWAR.COM) — Sunday’s
maritime incident between Russia and Ukraine in the Sea of Azov has
led to an emergency
NATO meeting and
a flurry of condemnations from the US and other member nations
against Russia.
On
Sunday, Russia seized three Ukrainian navy boats for entering a
closed part of the Sea of Azov. Russia said the area was closed as
part of a security effort, while Ukraine says the boats did nothing
wrong.
NATO
officials also expressed “full support” for Ukraine, and
reiterated complaints about the 2014 Crimean secession from Ukraine,
and subsequent accession into the Russian Federation.
German
officials also issued a
statement, saying it was “unacceptable” for Russia to block off
its own part of the Sea of Azov, and that they consider the matter
worrying.
* Rusland heeft dit o.a. gedaan daar NAVO marineschepen (van de VS) en de Oekraïense marine meermaals oefeningen hebben gehouden voor een inval in De Krim.
** De VS gaf daar zoveel geld voor uit, daar men dan een nog groter gebied aan de westgrens met Rusland zou kunnen bezetten met NAVO-troepen, nadat de NAVO Oekraïne in de nabije toekomst als lid zal toelaten tot het agressieve bondgenootschap (intussen zijn VS en NAVO troepen al aanwezig in Oekraïne, NB onder bestuur van een neonazi-junta……). Dit terwijl de VS en de NAVO in 1991 een overeenkomst hebben gesloten met de laatste Sovjet president Gorbatsjov, haar bondgenootschap niet uit te breiden richting Moskou……. De opzet van de coup in Oekraïne was een gewelddadige inname van De Krim door Rusland, daar dit land een deel van haar belangrijkste marinehavens op De Krim heeft, de VS wist dondersgoed dat Rusland deze havens nooit zou opgeven…… Jammer voor de VS en haar agressieve mede NAVO-lidstaten, maar de bevolking van De Krim besloot zelf niet te willen leven onder de door de VS geïnstalleerde neonazi-junta in Kiev en besloot een referendum over aansluiting bij Rusland te houden en zo is geschied, iets dat tot op de dag van vandaag wordt ontkend door het grootste deel van de westerse politici, terreurorganisatie NAVO en de reguliere westerse media……..
Het
terreurbewind in het Witte Huis heeft expliciet aangekondigd, in
tegenstelling tot de VS partners in de EU, dat het de Saoedische
terreurcoalitie zal blijven steunen bij de genocide die deze
moorddadige coalitie uitvoert in Jemen en dat zelfs met meer steun voor de
slachting die deze terreurcoalitie aanricht onder de sjiitische inwoners van Jemen………
Ik
koesterde nog enige hoop dat de beslissing van de VS niet langer het
vliegend oorlogstuig van de Saoedische coalitie in de lucht af te
tanken, het begin zou zijn van de volledige intrekking van haar steun
aan de meer dan schunnige en barbaarse genocide die wordt uitgevoerd in Jemen…..
Hoewel ik deze stap al hypocriet vond, immers de VS doet ook de coördinatie van de bombardementen op burgerdoelen in Jemen met haar
radarvliegtuigen….*
IJdele
hoop, zoals nu blijkt, terwijl de helft van het land dreigt om te
komen van honger, cholera en difterie, naast overlijdens door redelijk eenvoudig te behandelen ziekten, mits daarvoor, zoals in het geval van cholera en difterie,
de juiste medicijnen aanwezig zijn….. Zelfs aan die medicijnen ontbreekt
het, daar de fascistischeSaoedische
terreurcoalitie het land blokkeert (met actieve hulp van de VS op zee), niet alleen voor voedsel, water en brandstof (de elektriciteitscentrales zijn gebombardeerd door deze
terreurcoalitie), maar dus ook voor medicijnen en medische apparatuur…..
De Saoedische coalitie had het gore lef om een nieuw ziekenhuis van Artsen zonder Grenzen (MSF) te bombarderen, een ziekenhuis speciaal gericht op de behandeling van cholera……. (geen commentaar uit de mond van westerse politici, noch (of amper) van de reguliere westerse media…..)
In het BBC World Service radionieuws van 12.00 u. vanmiddag het bericht dat de agressie van de Saoedische terreurcoalitie tegen de havenstad Hodeida, in handen van de Houthi rebellen, de toevoer van humanitaire hulpgoederen met de helft heeft teruggebracht…… (en die toevoer was al veel te klein….)
De Saoedische coalitie heeft de laatste weken haar terreur geïntensiveerd en naast het bombarderen van havenvoorzieningen in Hodeida (nodig voor de humanitaire hulp) en de laatste boerderijen, die in dit landbouw arme land nog enigszins voedsel produceerden, twee zaken die volkomen ten overvloede nog eens aantonen dat de Saoedisch terreurcoalitie (in feite o.l.v. de VS) bezig is met een genocide in Jemen, een genocide die westerse regeringen na de genocide in Rwanda beloofden niet nog eens te zullen tolereren…….
De Houthi’s zijn bereid tot overleg en wilden daarom de wapens neerleggen, echter de Saoedische coalitie weigert elke bespreking over vrede, een teken te meer dat deze coalitie de genocide geheel wil volvoeren……
De
VS toont meer en meer haar ware fascistische gezicht (overigens
al gaande onder ‘vredesduif’ Obama) en heeft er geen moeite meer mee, om als
een barbaars, bloeddorstig monster tekeer te gaan over de wereld en
als dusdanig bekend te staan…..
Hoewel?
Het vorige is enigszins flauwe kul, immers zoals gezegd: de reguliere westerse media
en het grootste deel van de westerse politici blijven achter de VS
staan, ondanks dat deze vereniging van terreurstaten deze eeuw al tegen de 2,5 miljoen slachtoffers heeft gemaakt, blijft men de ogen
sluiten en helpt de VS zelfs mee met haar grootschalige terreur in de vorm van
illegale oorlogen tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië….. Zelfs de ophef over de situatie in Jemen, die nu langzaam maar zeker ontstaat onder politici in de EU, zorgt er niet voor dat men de VS veroordeelt voor haar grootschalige steun aan die genocide……
Ongelofelijk
genoeg vindt men het blijkbaar ook normaal dat de VS op grote schaal
mensen standrechtelijk executeert (zonder enig proces) middels drones, waarbij meer
dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werd verdacht, dus veelal
vrouwen en kinderen…….. Als Rusland of Syrië hetzelfde zouden doen, waren de rapen al lang gaar geweest in het westen…..
Ik sprak al even over fascisme en in het verlengde daarvan kan je stellen dat de fascisten in de EU al zover de overhand hebben, dat zelfs andere politieke partijen de vluchtelingen die de VS en NAVO-partners met hun ongebreidelde terreur hebben gemaakt, de schuld durven te geven van de vreselijke ellende waarin
ze zitten…. Die andere ‘niet fascistische’ politieke partijen, voeren voor het merendeel een
neoliberaal beleid (als het kapitalisme het voorgeborchte van
het fascisme) en zijn als de dood dat ze kiezers verliezen aan de
fascisten en komen zelf met fascistische plannen over wat te doen met
de arme drommels die ze mede zelf op de vlucht hebben doen
slaan……
Waar
is de gerechtigheid nog? Tijd dat men opstaat en de afzonderlijke
regeringen op alle mogelijke manieren gaat dwarszitten, ja je zou
zelfs kunnen hopen op een gewapende opstand om definitief een eind te maken aan het fascisme en het ijskoude, inhumane neoliberalisme…… Overheden
als de Nederlandse zijn daar wel degelijk bang voor, dit blijkt wel uit het feit dat
men steeds vaker oefent in stedelijk en landelijk gebied, waar het grootste deel
van de bewoners dit nog prachtig vindt, niet begrijpend dat men
oefent op het onder de duim houden van hen zelf……
Het CDA wil
zelfs een oefenstad ontwerpen voor de NAVO en wie weet zelfs voor straks
een EU leger (niet bekend bij het CDA, maar zo’n stad bestaat al in
Duitsland…..)…… Het CDA maakt dan ook deel uit van de EVP
fractie, die bij wijze van spreken ‘bomvol’ zit met fascisten…….
Terug naar Jemen: het
Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) moet nu eindelijk eens actie ondernemen
tegen de genocide in Jemen, om te beginnen met de erkenning dat er in
Jemen inderdaad een genocide wordt uitgevoerd……. Daarbij kan het ICC al metten de agressors aanwijzen: de Saoedische terreurcoalitie, bestaande uit: Saoedi-Arabië, de Golfstaten, Egypte, Marokko, de VS en Groot-Brittannië!! (de laatste levert niet alleen militair materieel, naast wapens en munitie, maar traint ook Saoedische militairen)

for the Saudi led-coalition against Yemen. Following a White House
statement that reaffirms US commitment, the Saudi coalition has
continued with its assault on Hodeidah port and civilians in Yemen.
Germany,
the United Kingdom, and other European nations have recently put
forth effort to stop the war against Yemen.
The
White House has issued a statement doubling down on its seemingly
unconditional support for Saudi Arabia — particularly its assault
on Yemen.
Saudi
Arabia has since continued its attacks on Yemen’s Hodeidah port
and civilian areas.
Yemenis
hold out hope for the European effort and UN envoy’s recent visit
to Hodediah port.

Diverges from European Allies, Doubles Down on Support for Gulf
Monarchies
On
November 20th, the White House issued (yet
another) statement blaming
Iran for the ongoing bloodshed in Yemen. It’s worth noting that
Iran has no troops in Yemen. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia and the UN
inspect all aid shipments entering Yemen for weapons and missile
parts. There is absolutely no concrete evidence of Iran providing
support to Ansarullah (aka. Houthis) in Yemen.
Nevertheless,
Washington issued this statement to double down on its support for
the Saudi coalition against Yemen. As always, Iran remains a
scapegoat for the United States to continue its imperialist war
against the only republic on the Arabian Penninsula.
The
statement also makes it clear that this is not a moral decision, but
rather a financial one. U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledges that
“the crime against Jamal Khashoggi was a terrible one, and one that
our country does not condone” however, Trump also points out that
the American economy relies heavily on Saudi Arabia for stability.
“After
my heavily negotiated trip to Saudi Arabia last year, the Kingdom
agreed to spend and invest $450 billion in the United States. This is
a record amount of money. It will create hundreds of thousands of
jobs, tremendous economic development, and much additional wealth for
the United States,” the statement reads.
Europe
Takes Action to Halt Saudi Attacks on Yemen
This
statement of support comes at a crucial time as Washington’s
European allies seek to end the war in Yemen or at least curtail the
current Saudi and Emirati-led offensive against Yemen’s Hodeidah
port.
Following
the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, European
nations seem to have grown weary of their previously unconditional
support for the Saudi monarchy. Although these nations — and even
Jamal Khashoggi himself — generally supported the Saudi-led war
against Yemen, Germany, the United Kingdom, and others have used
Khashoggi’s death as an opportunity to cut off Saudi Arabia.
Germany
had recently announced it would stop all future arms sales to Saudi
Arabia. Berlin later issued another statement that it would also halt
all previously approved arms shipments to the monarchy.
Denmark
and Finland have also stopped their military support to Riyadh.
The
United Kingdom meanwhile has spearheaded a UN
Security Council resolution
to stop the Saudi assault on five key Yemeni fronts — including the
dire Hodeidah front.
At
risk of famine and disease, 22 million Yemenis require urgent
humanitarian aid to survive. The ongoing Saudi and Emirati operation
against Hodeidah port, Yemen’s last remaining lifeline for aid,
could spark a humanitarian disaster not seen in modern times. Over
37,000 Yemeni men, women, and children have already been killed or
injured from the Saudi-led war as it approaches its fourth year.
While
the United Kingdom publicly puts their best foot forward, it has not
stopped supplying the Saudi coalition with weapons. Also, despite its
hardline rhetoric following the death of Khashoggi on its soil,
Turkey has also not made any mention of halting its arms deals to
Riyadh.
France,
Canada, and Spain also still supply Saudi Arabia with weapons to
carry out its war.

Out Hope for Peace
Meanwhile,
Yemeni factions plan to attend talks in Sweden at the end of
November. These talks should include the Saudi-backed pupped
government of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and Ansarullah. At this
point, it doesn’t appear that the Emirati-backed Southern Movement
— which holds considerable power throughout the southern provinces
— will attend the talks.
Talks
fell short in September at the United Nations Human Rights Council
when the Saudi coalition effectively blocked the Ansarullah
delegation from attending by refusing to grant safe and timely
passage to Ansarullah’s Omani flight.
This
effort to keep Ansarullah out of peace negotiations shows that Saudi
Arabia is aware of the revolutionary group’s political power and
public support yet cannot admit defeat in any form.
Saudi
Arabia began their airstrike campaign against Yemen in 2015 and later
full blockade to suppress Yemen’s anti-imperialist revolutionary
movement, Ansarullah, and impose the Saudi puppet government led by
Hadi on the people.
However,
Riyadh’s goals have completely backfired.
Not
only does Ansarullah enjoy widespread public support thanks to their
elimination of al-Qaeda and terrorist elements, but the movement has
developed advanced military technology.
Ansarullah
has spent the past three and a half years developing long-range,
mid-range, and short-range ballistic missiles, strengthening their
special forces, creating reconnaissance and attack drones, and
beefing their naval abilities including marine missiles.

Ongoing
Attacks on Hodeidah
The
UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, visited Ansarullah
leaders in the capital Sana’a this week before heading to Hodeidah.
Griffiths stressed the need for the UN to take control of the port to
ensure the flow of aid to vulnerable civilians. In the past, Saudi
Arabia has bombed cranes used for unloading aid, rendering the port
unusable.
However,
Ansarullah is not in favor of this solution unless Saudi Arabia
agrees to halt its attacks on Hodeidah. UN control over the port
could easily turn into Saudi occupation of
the port under the right conditions.
Last
week, Ansarullah agreed to halt its defensive missile attacks and
ground operations provided the Saudi coalition ended its offensive
airstrikes and ground attacks. The Saudi coalition did not hold up
their end of the bargain and ground fighting ensued.
Despite
the UN envoy’s presence, the Saudi coalition continued their
attacks on civilians in Yemen.
On
Thursday, coalition warplanes targeted a house in Hodeidah’s Kilo
16 area killing at least three civilians. Coalition attacks also
destroyed civilian homes and farms in Saada province on Thursday. On
Friday, the Saudi coalition launched at least 15 airstrikes across
various areas of Saada province destroying more fams and homes.
On
Saturday, a spokesman from the Ministry of Defense announced that the
Saudi coalition had launched 47 raids on various provinces over the
past 24 hours. He pointed out that the forces of aggression clearly
have no desire to achieve peace.

Scrambling To Stop Trump From Releasing Classified Docs In Russia
Probe
The
UK’s Secret Intelligence Service, otherwise known as MI6, has been
scrambling to prevent President Trump from publishing classified
materials linked to the Russian election meddling investigation,
according to The Telegraph, stating
that any disclosure would “undermine intelligence gathering if
he releases pages of an FBI application to wiretap one of his former
campaign advisers.”
Trump’s
allies, however, are
fighting back –
demanding transparency and suggesting that the UK wouldn’t want the
documents withheld unless it had something to hide.
The
Telegraph has talked to more than a dozen UK and US officials,
including in American intelligence, who have revealed details about
the row.
British
spy chiefs have “genuine concern” about sources being exposed if
classified parts of the wiretap request were made public, according
to figures familiar with discussions.
“It
boils down to the exposure of people”,
said one US intelligence official, adding: “We
don’t want to reveal sources and methods.”
US intelligence shares the concerns of the UK.
Another
said Britain feared setting a dangerous “precedent” which could
make people less likely to share information, knowing that it could
one day become public. –The Telegraph
The Telegraph adds
that the UK’s dispute with the Trump administration is so politically
sensitive that staff within the British Embassy in D.C. haver been
barred from discussing it with journalists. Theresa May has also
“been kept at arms-length and is understood to have not raised
the issue directly with the US president.”
In
September,
we reported that the British government “expressed grave
concerns” over the material in question after President
Trump issued an order to the DOJ to release a wide swath of
materials,
“immediately” and “without redaction.”
Mr
Trump wants to declassify 21 pages from one of the applications. He
announced the move in September, then backtracked, then this month
said he was “very seriously” considering it again. Both
Britain and Australia are understood to be opposing the move.
I met with the DOJ concerning the declassification of various UNREDACTED documents. They agreed to release them but stated that so doing may have a perceived negative impact on the Russia probe. Also, key Allies’ called to ask not to release. Therefore, the Inspector General…..
….has been asked to review these documents on an expedited basis. I believe he will move quickly on this (and hopefully other things which he is looking at). In the end I can always declassify if it proves necessary. Speed is very important to me – and everyone!
The New
York Timesreported
at the time that the UK’s concern was over
material which “includes
direct references to conversations between American law enforcement
officials and Christopher Steele,” the
former MI6 agent who compiled the infamous “Steele Dossier.”
The UK’s objection, according to former US and British officials, was
over revealing Steele’s identity in an official document, “regardless
of whether he had been named in press reports.”
We
noted in September, however, that Steele’s name was contained
within the Nunes
Memo – the
House Intelligence Committee’s majority opinion in the Trump-Russia
case.
Steele
also had extensive
contacts with
DOJ official Bruce Ohr and his wife Nellie,
who – along with Steele – was paid by opposition research firm Fusion
GPS in the anti-Trump campaign. Trump called for the declassification
of FBI notes of interviews with Ohr, which would ostensibly reveal
more about his relationship with Steele. Ohr was demoted twice within
the Department of Justice for lying
about his contacts with
Fusion GPS.
Perhaps
the Brits are also concerned since much of the espionage performed on
the Trump campaign was conducted on
UK soil throughout 2016.
Recall that Trump aid George Papadopoulos was lured
to London in
March, 2016, where Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud fed him the rumor
that Russia had dirt on Hillary Clinton. It was later at
a London bar that
Papadopoulos would drunkenly pass the rumor to Australian diplomat
Alexander Downer (who Strzok flew to London to meet with).
Also
recall that CIA/FBI “informant” (spy) Stefan Halper met
with both Carter Page and
Papadopoulos in
London.
Halper,
a veteran of four Republican administrations, reached out to Trump
aide George Papadopoulos in September 2016 with an offer to fly to
London to write an academic paper on energy exploration in the
Mediterranean Sea.
Papadopoulos
accepted a flight to London and a $3,000 honorarium. He
claims that during a meeting in London, Halper asked him whether he
knew anything about Russian hacking of Democrats’ emails.
Papadopoulos
had other contacts on British soil that he now believes were part of
a government-sanctioned surveillance operation. –Daily
Caller
In
total, Halper received over
$1 million from the Obama Pentagon for
“research,” over $400,000 of which was granted before and
during the 2016 election season.
Papadopoulos,
who was sentenced to 14 days in prison for lying about his
conversations with a shadowy Maltese professor and self-professed
member of the Clinton
Foundation, has
publicly claimed he was targeted by UK spies, and told The
Telegraph that
he demands transparency. Trump’s allies in Washington, meanwhile,
have suggested that the facts laid out before us mean that the
ongoing Russia investigation was
invalid from the start.
In
short, it’s understandable that the UK would prefer to hide
their involvement in the “witch hunt” of Donald Trump
since much of the counterintelligence investigation was
conducted on UK soil. And if the Brits had knowledge of the
operation, it will bolster claims that they meddled in the
2016 US election by assisting what appears to have been a set-up
from the start.
Steele’s
ham-handed dossier is a mere embarrassment, as virtually none of the
claims asserted by the former MI6 agent have been proven true.
Steele,
a former MI6 agent, is the author of the infamous and unverified
anti-Trump dossier. He worked as a confidential human source for the
FBI for years before the relationship was severed just before the
election because of Steele’s unauthorized contacts with the press.
He
shared results of his investigation into Trump’s links to Russia
with the FBI beginning in early July 2016.
The
FBI relied heavily on the unverified Steele dossier to fill out
applications for four FISA warrants against Page. Page has denied the
dossier’s claims, which include that he was the Trump campaign’s
back channel to the Kremlin. –Daily

said, Steele hasn’t worked for the British government since 2009, so
for their excuse focusing on the former MI6 agent while ignoring the
multitude of events which occurred on UK soil, is curious.

Dozens
of civilians, mostly women and children, have been killed when the
US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist
group conducted fresh airstrikes against residential areas in Syria’s
eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.
Local
sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Syria’s official
news agency SANA that US-led military aircraft struck the
village of al-Buqa’an on the outskirts of Hajin town on Saturday,
leaving at least 40 people dead.
The
development came only two days after 17 people of the same family
lost their lives when US-led coalition fighter jets fired missiles
into buildings in Albu Badran village.
Most
of the slain civilians had apparently been displaced earlier from the
nearby town of al-Baghuz in the Abu Kamal district of Dayr
al-Zawr province. The town has recently witnessed fierce clashes
between Daesh terrorists and militants from the Kurdish Democratic
Union Party.
Separately
on Thursday, US-led warplanes struck al-Susah village in the same
Syrian province. Six civilians were killed and several buildings
destroyed in the aerial attacks.
On
November 13, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Expatriates condemned a recent airstrike by the US-led
coalition against the eastern town of al-Shaafah, which left
more than 60 people dead and injured, arguing that the massacre
clearly pointed to the fact that members of the military alliance had
no respect for moral values, international rules and regulations
besides the lives of innocent civilians.
The
ministry, in two separate letters, addressed to United Nations
Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the rotating president of the
UN Security Council Ma Zhaoxu, called on the Security Council to
fulfill its responsibilities and stop US-led aerial assaults.
It
also asked the world body to propose an international, independent
and impartial mechanism to investigate the crimes being perpetrated
by the US-led coalition.
The
letters noted that the coalition was deliberately targeting Syria
civilians and making use of internationally banned weapons, including
white phosphorus bombs, in Syria.
The
ministry stressed that US-led coalition airstrikes were meant to kill
as many Syrian people as possible, prolong the ongoing Syrian
conflict, destroy the country’s infrastructure and undermine its
sovereignty and territorial integrity in flagrant violation of all UN
Security Council resolutions on Syria.
The
letters concluded that the embarrassing silence of the Security
Council had encouraged the US-led coalition to kill more Syrian
civilians and destroy their property.
The
US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against what are said
to be Daesh targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any
authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.
The
military alliance has repeatedly been accused of targeting and
killing civilians. It has also been largely incapable of achieving
its declared goal of destroying Daesh.

HOW
ELITES USE MAINSTREAM MEDIA TO ‘MAINTAIN AND EXPAND THEIR POWER’

quite some time, debate about ‘fake news’ has reverberated
clamorously in both mainstream and alternative discourse. One could
easily conclude the issue was a pressingly new plague, restricted to
certain corners of the web – but academic TJ Coles begs to differ.
In fact, he tells Sputnik fake news has been ubiquitous for thousands
of years.
It’s
difficult to pinpoint the precise moment the term ‘fake news’
entered the Western political and media lexicon, but the
election of Donald Trump as US President certainly
turbocharged its usage. For the controversial leader and his
supporters, the label can be automatically applied to any and
all media reporting critical of him, while his opponents play
much the same game when roles are reversed.

that talk made me think ‘hang on a minute, we’ve always had
fake news’. It’s the nature of power — all power
structures want to maintain and expand their power, so it’s
therefore important to present information that benefits them,
and keeps populations in a psychological and/or intellectual
prison. The ‘fake news’ peddled by elite financial,
commercial and political financial interests, duly regurgitated
by major media organizations, eclipses any bogus story
perpetuated by alleged ‘bots’ on Twitter, or whatever,”

BABYLONIAN
BEGINNINGS
In
his work, TJ traces the birth of fake news all the way back
to ancient Babylon, when rulers sought to perpetuate the
notion they were descended from Gods and thus had a right
to dominate and control the populace — history’s first
recorded instance of the ‘divine right of kings’.
Similarly,
Plato famously popularized the idea of the ‘noble lie’ —
privileging untruths told for the benefit of elites and the
population alike. These ideas very much endure in the modern

wouldn’t be good, or necessary, for Hillary’s supporters
to be aware of her close connections to Wall Street,

actually quite open about their use and abuse of the news
to shape public perceptions and preserve sociopolitical
conditions benefitting them. For instance, the UK Ministry of Defence
regularly publishes projections of how planners think the world
will look in 10 — 20 years, and they routinely note the
media is one of the key ways to maintain the current
paradigm, and discuss the various ways information can be
‘weaponized’ against the public,” he says.
TJ
suggests elites shape and control the public mind so effectively
because they exploit fundamental facets of human nature. First,
the well-established instinctive inclination to reflexively
believe something reinforcing one’s existing beliefs, rather
than assessing whether alternative facts or viewpoints have any
value, or indeed considering whether what one believes might be
wrong, or informed by confirmation bias.
This
tendency is greatly exacerbated by the use of internet and
social media algorithms that present a ‘personalized’ picture
of the world to users, unfailingly presenting individuals
with content they want to see, and tacitly suppressing
information contrary to their existing opinions.
“Elites
also know how easy it is to exploit guilt, which is why atrocity
propaganda is so widespread today. Most sympathize with the
victims of major atrocities, and naturally want to do
something to help, so this aspect of human nature can be
easily manipulated to justify aggressive foreign policy
actions — ‘look at what we’re letting happen to poor
defenceless people, we have a responsibility to protect them’
etcetera. It’s funny, when it comes to the economy, the
powerful are quick to say people are naturally selfish, so it’s
everyone for themselves, but when it comes to foreign
policy, we should care about our fellow human beings and do
something to help,” TJ says.
ABSENCE
IS EVIDENCE
As
the academic’s work makes clear, atrocity propaganda doesn’t even
need to have any grounding in reality whatsoever. In the
lead-up to the NATO-backed violent overthrow of Libyan
leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the mainstream media was awash
with reports government forces fuelled by viagra were
conducting mass rapes of civilians, and planning a borderline
genocidal massacre of rebel forces — claims used
to justify the imposition of a no-fly zone over the
country, and NATO airstrikes.
The
stories were subsequently found to be entirely
without foundation —
similarly, serious question marks hover over the veracity
of numerous
claimed chemical
weapons attacks in Syria, which likewise have provided a pretext
for Western attacks on the country.
“It’s
especially easy to exploit guilt when you present bite-sized
news reports about an atrocious event stripped of all
context, and exclude the voices of people who are actually
on the ground. Occasionally, contradictory voices do filter
through the system, although largely by accident. For
instance, the BBC made the mistake of inviting Peter Ford,
former UK ambassador to Syria, on air to discuss
chemical weapons attacks — he quickly demolished their
propaganda. He hasn’t been invited back since,” TJ says.
Ford
is surely but one of a great many talking heads
to effectively be banned from appearing on the BBC
for daring to state views and evidence contrary
to ascendant elite narratives. However, the British state
broadcaster’s blacklisting activities also extend to its own
employees — in April
2018,
the BBC admitted that for decades, job applicants and serving
staff were subject to political vetting by MI5, in an
effort to prevent “subversives” gaining employment with the
Corporation.
Often,
individuals were ostracized on extremely tenuous grounds. For
instance, respected film director John Goldschmidt was blacklisted
in the late 1960s, with two projects he was working on for
the Beeb cancelled midway through production without warning
or explanation — MI5 deemed him a potential subversive as he’d
spent a few weeks in Czechoslovakia in his youth, as part
of a student exchange program. Similarly, award-winning
journalist Isabel Hilton was refused a job by BBC Scotland
in 1976 — that she spoke Chinese and had been a member
of Scottish China Association at Edinburgh University made
MI5 extremely anxious.
Under
the policy, popular children’s book author and playwright Michael
Rosen was also outright sacked from the BBC in 1972 while a
graduate trainee for a number of ‘transgressions’, including
student activism at Oxford, and producing a film featuring clips
of US soldiers being tested with LSD. The American Embassy
in London complained about the project to both MI5 and
the BBC directly, whereupon Rosen was shown the door.
The
policy was wound down in the 1990s, and it’s unknown whether
any comparable structures existed at other major news
organizations — although City
University research suggests
dissenting voices remain rare in the British mainstream media.
The 2016 study concluded UK journalists are overwhelmingly white,
male, and elite-university educated — and are far more
trusting of politicians, the government, police and military
than the general population, which the study’s authors partly
attributed to reporters’ “reliance on these
institutions as sources of information”.
Such
widespread faith in the establishment may account for why
so many prominent reporters see no problem with maintaining
close relationships with the intelligence services. The
Guardian’s Luke Harding has frequently, openly and proudly
advertised his warm bond with British spying agencies
in articles and books — and equally frequently been
condemned for uncritically running stories of questionable
probity potentially provided to him by agency staff. In
a September article he
claimed Russian diplomats had held secret talks in London
with associates of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, in an
attempt to assist in his escape from the UK. The
covert action would’ve allegedly seen Assange smuggled out of
the Ecuadorian embassy in Knightsbridge under cover
of Christmas Eve in a diplomatic vehicle and transported
to Moscow.
The
story was entirely based on the testimony of anonymous
sources, the identity of which Harding didn’t even hint at in
the piece. In response, Craig Murray, former UK Ambassador
to Uzbekistan, slammed the article, calling it a “quite
extraordinary set of deliberate lies” and “entirely black
propaganda” published by an “MI6 tool”.
“I
was closely involved with Julian and with Fidel Narvaez
of the Ecuadorean Embassy at the end of last year
in discussing possible future destinations for Julian. It
is not only the case Russia did not figure in those plans, it is
a fact Julian directly ruled out the possibility as undesirable.
The entire story is a complete and utter fabrication. It is very
serious indeed when a newspaper like the Guardian prints a
tissue of deliberate lies in order to spread fake news
on behalf of the security services. I cannot find words
eloquent enough to express the depth of my contempt
for Harding and Katherine Viner, who have betrayed completely
the values of journalism,” Murray wrote.
Similarly,
in 2007 the Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention
in Iran published
an analysis of
44 articles written by Daily Telegraph Defence Editor Con
Couglin on Iran — including stories suggesting North
Korea was helping Tehran prepare a nuclear weapons test, and the
country was grooming Bin Laden’s successor. They found the pieces
almost invariably were based on “unnamed or untraceable” sources
in intelligence agencies or the UK Foreign Office and “published
at sensitive and delicate times” when there’d been
“relatively positive diplomatic moves” towards Iran, and
contained ‘exclusive revelations’ about Iran combined
with eye-catchingly controversial headlines, which were
typically based on a single sentence in the wider article.
PRISON
BREAK
Despite
his bleak analysis, TJ does not view the elite monopoly
on information as insurmountable, or invincible —
there’s much individuals and groups can do to shatter the
stranglehold.
“People
should keep a keen eye on sources that analyse news reporting
and misreporting, such as Glasgow
University Media Group and MediaLens,
which offer alternative information and tell you what media coverage
is actively omitting from the real story. However, change must
come from within too — people should divorce themselves
from preconceptions, and question their beliefs wherever and
whenever possible. When presented with information that doesn’t
conform to our predispositions, we should ask ourselves whether
it’s true, rather than reflexively dismissing it outright,”
TJ says.
While
having less trust in the media more generally is a must, the
academic also warns against placing too much faith
in alternative news outlets and social networks, despite them
being valuable resources with a significant positive potential.
“Independent
media is growing in size and strength, but its overall
reach is still relatively tiny — while print circulation is
obviously down, people still get the vast bulk of their
information from mainstream outlets. Similarly, social media
could’ve democratized the spread of information, but it
hasn’t — and in fact any such potential has probably
been neutered by the proliferation of ‘fact-checking’
resources, which are anything but unbiased and disinterested
arbiters of truth,” TJ notes.
One-such
‘fact-checker’ is the Atlantic Council, a NATO-offshoot
with a board
of directors comprised
of a ‘who’s who’ of contentious US political figures,
including Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Robert
Gates, Michael Hayden and David Petraeus, among others.
It
partnered with Facebook in May to “independently monitor
disinformation and other vulnerabilities” and combat the spread
of fake news on the platform. To
date,
the collaboration has resulted in untold hundreds of pages
and personal accounts being shut down — rather than being
promulgators of propaganda though, the overwhelming bulk of the
banished were alternative news sources, political organizations and
individuals, highlighting issues and events the mainstream media
downplays or ignores, such as US interventionism, drug
legalization and police brutality.
Moreover,
that elites exploit social media’s information-sharing capabilities
to suit their own objectives is well-established.
“The
US State Department has used major social networks to recruit
revolutionaries on several occasions, most notably during the
‘Arab Spring’, connecting ‘moderate rebels’ — actually
violent jihadist lunatics — in select countries.
Washington wanted Assad, Gaddafi and Mubarak gone, because they
weren’t following orders — but there were no
Twitter or Facebook ‘revolutions’ in the Gulf states,
because the American empire wanted their rulers to remain
in place. In Cuba, the CIA even went as far as creating
a social network for the same purpose,” TJ concludes.

Gezien
het voorgaande is er dan ook maar één conclusie te trekken: de VS
met behulp van haar oorlogshond de NAVO hebben illegaal een land
verwoest, een vreselijke massamoord aangericht en de kiem gelegd voor
ellende in de toekomst……..
De VS is
alweer de grote schuldige, al vanaf 2006 was dit gestolen land bezig
met de voorbereiding van een opstand, die tot een staatsgreep tegen
Assad moest leiden, maar gelukkig is het de VS in dit geval niet
gelukt! (al heeft e.e.a. een vreselijke tol geëist….)
Bijzonder in deze: de foto’s die bewijzen dat de White Helmets een terreurgroep is, werden en worden op Facebook geplaatst, hetzelfde Facebook dat mensen censureert die o.a. de waarheid vertellen over Syrië, waar Facebook dat wegzet als ‘fake news’ (nepnieuws), terwijl propaganda voor een terreurgroep als White Helmets geen probleem is voor datzelfde Facebook, propaganda ofwel leugens……

Expose Fake Humanitarian Group as FSA Terrorists Linked with Al-Qaeda
This
post will present over 100 screen-captured Facebook images that have
been cached from the Facebook accounts of one dozen White Helmet
members and will highlight the fact that these White Helmets post
images to their own Facebook accounts that are in support of the FSA
and various designated terrorist groups, including al-Nusra Front,
Nour al -Zinki (child beheaders), al-Qaeda, and others.
Methodology
This
gathering of images was conducted by utilizing the Facebook “Friends”
feature directly from the account of Majd Khalaf who is one of the
lead propaganda disseminators for the White Helmet group on Twitter.
Each of his Facebook White Helmet ‘friends’ leads to another
‘friend’, and so forth, thus making it quite easy to utilize his
Facebook page as a reference point (hub) and branch out from there
going through hundreds of White Helmets Facebook pages. In this case,
I decided to highlight a dozen accounts to provide an example of
White Helmet terrorist connections. I encourage other researchers to
do the same so that an even larger body of evidence can be
ascertained for future reference. Each image includes the name of the
White Helmet poster in the right hand corner and thus each subsequent
image utilizing the same name shows what that particular White
Helmet/FSA terrorist decided to post up on their page. Thus,
establishing their likes, links, proclivities and admiration for
terrorist related activities. The online addresses of the Facebook
accounts which were examined are included at the bottom of this post
for further reference.
Note
also: Facebook appears to not monitor these terrorist accounts and I
have personally noticed that many atrocities are being uploaded to
these accounts, including beheadings. Proof of such is at the

Ironically,
people in the US and Europe are being censored by Facebook for
posting news articles that are being designated by Facebook and its
associated ‘fact-checkers’ as ‘fake news’. This blatant
hypocrisy on the part of Facebook is absolutely pathetic, immoral and
disgusting.
These
are the images Facebook and western governments seem to approve of,
and choose not to even investigate…….one has to wonder why.

York Times (NYT) durfde over de Israëlische inval in de Gazastrook, te
zeggen dat dit de eerste inval was sinds de Gaza oorlog van 2014, een inval waarbij 7 Hamasleden plus een Israëlische officier omkwamen. Dezelfde oorlog in 2014 van Israël tegen de in kracht niet te vergelijken Palestijnen in de Gazastrook (als een modern leger tegen Palestijnen met pistool, karabijn en veredelde vuurpijlen….), een oorlog waarbij meer dan 500 Palestijnse kinderen omkwamen……..
Deze
‘misrekening’ is bepaald geen vergissing van de NYT, immers met
dergelijk fake news wordt Israël een stuk minder agressief
afgeschilderd, terwijl het echte aantal invallen in de Gazastrook
sinds 2014 minstens op 263 ligt, ofwel 262 meer dan de NYT meldde……. Sterker nog de Israëlische generaal b.d. Tal Russo stelde eerder dat elke nacht geheime Israëlische militaire acties plaatsvinden, waar het overgrote deel van het Israëlische publiek niets van weet, laat staan dat de bevolking in het westen over deze Israëlische terreuraanslagen op de hoogte wordt gesteld, het westen waar de reguliere (massa-) media en het grootste deel van de politici blind achter Israël blijven staan……. Het westen waar men meer en meer alle kritiek op Israël af denkt te kunnen doen als ‘antisemitisme……’
Dan te

NYTimes Called Israel’s “1st Incursion” Was Actually at Least
Its 263rd
(FAIR) — In
a piece headlined “Deadly Gaza Raid by Israel Threatens Nascent
Ceasefire” (11/11/18),
the New
York Times described
an Israeli assault near the city of Khan Yunis that killed seven
Palestinians as
the
first known Israeli ground incursion into Gaza since Operation
Protective Edge, in July 2014, set off a seven-week war.
A
New York Times article (11/11/18) misstates the number of recent
Israeli ground incursions into Gaza by two orders of magnitude.
This
depiction of the attack as a unique occurrence in recent times is
wildly inaccurate. Since the 2014 Gaza War, the IDF has carried out
262 ground incursions into the Gaza strip, according to the UN Office
for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Seventy of these have
occurred in the past year alone. As Henriette Chacar, writing
for +972
Magazine (11/13/18),
points out:
Israel
carried out 21 incursions into Gaza in 2014…. The next year, in
2015, that number more than doubled, to 56 incidents. In 2016 and
2017, 68 and 65 incursions took place, respectively. By end of
October 2018, 73 such incidents had been recorded, according to the
UN data.
Such
incursions are a regular occurrence, but are rarely reported by media
or known to the general public. Chacar’s article (which was
reposted by Lobe
Log—11/14/18)
quotes retired Israeli Gen. Tal Russo: “Activities that most
civilians aren’t aware of happen all the time, every night and in
every region.”
Operations
by the Israeli military can have a devastating effect on ordinary
Palestinians in Gaza. Combined with the ever-changing “buffer zone”
declared by the IDF, they make it difficult for
nearby farmers to grow crops or raise livestock, worsening the area’s
already tenuous economic situation.
Errors
like the New York Times’ minimize the degree to which
Israel continues to occupy Gaza, despite claiming to have
“disengaged” in 2005, and aid a media narrative in which the IDF
is reacting defensively rather than acting as an aggressor.
ACTION:
Please
tell the New York Timesto issue a
correction on the frequency of IDF ground incursions into Gaza.
