Men verwacht windsnelheden tot 285 km/u. of zelfs hoger……..

Climate
Breakdown Is Happening Before Our Eyes

Climate
breakdown
,
as George Monbiot calls it, is happening before our eyes at the
same time the science on climate change grows stronger and has wider
acceptance. Hurricane Harvey, which struck at the center of the
petroleum industry – the heart of climate denialism – provided a
glimpse of the new normal of climate crisis-induced events. In Asia,
this week the
climate
message was even stronger
 where
at least 1,200 people died and 41 million were impacted. By 2050,
one
billion people could be displaced
 by
climate crises.

Climate
disasters demonstrate the immense failure of government at all
levels. The world has known about the likely disastrous impacts of
climate change for decades. Next year will be the
thirtieth anniversary of
the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
 (IPCC),
which  operates under the auspices of the United Nations and was
founded in 1988. The IPCC published the first of five reports in
1990. Thousands of scientists and other experts write and review the
reports and 120 countries participate in the process. The most common
surprises in successive reports are
more
rapid temperature increases
 and greater
impacts
 than
scientists had predicted.

Climate Science is real protest

We
Can No Longer Ignore the Science and the Evidence Before Us

The
science on climate change has become extremely strong as the
final
draft of the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s Climate Science
Special Report
 showed. The document
was leaked
 last
month because scientists feared the Trump administration would amend,
suppress or destroy it. The report describes overwhelming evidence of
man-made climate change impacting us right now and the urgent
need to get to zero net carbon emissions.

It
is not just science that confirms the climate crisis, it is also
people’s experience with
extreme
weather
constant record
breaking
 temperatures,
and
deadly
heat waves
 as
well as
collapsing
mountains in Alaska
,
the
shrinking
Colorado River
 and
an
ice
free Arctic
 as
a few examples. People have experienced a series of extreme
storms – Hurricanes Harvey, Katrina and Sandy being the most
notable this century –droughts, fires and other physical evidence
that make it hard to deny climate catastrophe. Climate denialism
requires shutting one’s eyes to obvious realities when the
truth is the
Earth
is warmer than it has been in 120,000 years
.

There
is no doubt that these storms are made
more
deadly by climate change
.
Harvey was a tropical storm until it went over the warm Gulf of
Mexico and grew into a hurricane with record rainfall. Climate
expert
Michael
Mann explains
 that
warmer water resulted in greater moisture being absorbed, more rain
and more flooding. Sea level rise added to the greater flooding. The
stalling of the storm over Houston was also predicted by climate
forecasters because the jet stream pattern has changed. Climate
change had the same effects on Hurricane Sandy in New York City.

Science
is denied because many profit from the dirty energy status quo and
denying or even hiding the existence of climate change. There
is
litigation
against oil and gas companies
 and an
SEC investgation
 because
records show they knew their products were causing climate change
going back to the 70s but funded research to hide reality.
 ExxonMobil is being
sued
by shareholders
 for
misleading investors and faces
shareholder
challenges
Coastal
communities are suing
 dozens
of oil and gas companies for continuing to pollute after they knew
the damage they were doing.

Former ExxonMobil CEO Rex
Tillerson
,
now the Secretary of State, used a
fake
email account
 to
discuss climate change and many of those
emails
are now missing
.
Youth suing over the destruction of their environment and climate
change are
seeking
Tillerson’s testimony and emails
.

There
are many climate criminals to point to with the dirty energy
companies at the top of the list. There are
100
companies responsible for 71 percent
 of
green house gas emissions. Good government would hold them
responsible.

Historic
Failure of Government

The
three decade life of the IPCC has coincided with deep corruption of
government by the energy industry, sprawl developers and other dirty
energy profiteers. The anti-science movement in the United States,
which includes government officials, industry and others who deny
climate change exists, provides cover for elected officials to do
nothing or act inadequately on the urgent reality of climate chaos so
that corporations continue to threaten the planet.

The
United States elected a climate denier, Donald Trump, who describes
climate change as a hoax and has
appointed
officials
 who
are complicit in denying climate change, closely tied to polluting
industries and favor policies that result in climate breakdown, and
many of whom were part of
the
misinformation network on climate
.
Trump has
withdrawn
from the Paris
 climate
agreement, putting the
US
out of step with the world
 on
the issue. The Trump administration has
sought
to hide
 evidence
of climate change, but
people
have been sharing climate documents
 with
other governments and scientific groups before he hid them. Thirteen
cities joined together to
publish
Trump-deleted climate data
.

Trump
has conducted a
witch
hunt against believers
 in
climate change. These actions have resulted in the unusual step
of
climate
scientists protesting
 the
Trump administration.

But,
even presidents who recognize climate change reality have not
taken action to confront it.  Unlike Trump,
President
Obama
 played
a more
hidden
hand
 in
his undermining of climate policy. His energy strategy favored “
all
of the above

energy including oil and gas and his office approved carbon
infrastructure and
off-shore
drilling
.
Obama showed
dirty
energy extraction is a bi-partisan concern
,
as Alison Rose Levy clearly reminds us. Obama
undermined
the 2009 Copenhagen
 climate
accord and weakened the
Paris
agreement
.
He was preceded by the marinated in oil Bush-Cheney administration.
Those two administrations wasted 16 years of critical time to respond
to climate change.

Federal
decisions had local impacts as can be seen in Houston, the fourth
largest city. The
federal
government inadequately
 regulated
superfund sites, pollution from oil refineries and chemical plants in
the area. These were all part of “Cancer Alley” or the “Chemical
Coast” – names used to describe the petrochemical capital of the
United States. When flooding came, so did disaster in these areas. A

1.5
mile radius around one chemical plant had to be evacuated
 and toxic
waste sites flooded
.  Of
course, the environmental racism that led to these dangerous
polluters being put in poor neighborhoods, usually communities of
color, is now resulting in massive pollution in those areas and will
cause health problems.

But
inadequate response to climate change often includes state and
local governments (some states and cities are taking positive
steps). Texas is an example of decades of failed government as it has
taken no action to adapt to climate change over the last three
decades.
Bills
were introduced
 to
do so but the legislature failed to act. Why? Because the laws
included the words “climate change,” e.g. calling for a “climate
change vulnerability assessment” and were perceived as a threat to
the oil and gas industry.

The
metropolitan area of Houston contains 6.5 million people over urban
sprawl the size of New Jersey.
Zoning
regulations allowed
 for
unregulated growth, even in areas prone to flooding, creating a large
population on a flood plain. The area has had a long relationship
with the petrochemical industry which has been able to get its way,
but being business friendly to the industry is going to become very
costly. The city is sinking at 2.2 inches a year in large part
because of oil and water being pumped from under it.

The
failure to act on climate for the last three decades also means that
government will spend more as each crisis has multi-hundred million
or even multi-billion dollar costs. In addition, people today
are
leaving
a bill of hundreds of trillions of dollars
 to
future generations. It would be much less expensive if government
acted responsibly and put in place infrastructure and technology to
adapt to climate change as well as to ameliorate it now. The disaster
in Houston is an opportunity to make those changes.

The
historic failure of government action on climate change shows a fatal
flaw in a representative democracy that is based on the
corruption of big business money and serves the corporate
interests who profit from the flawed status quo.

Climate change is big the movement needs to be bigger

People
Rise to the Challenge

Throughout
much of this history, particularly in the 21st Century,
people have been challenging the dominance of the oil, gas and coal
industries and pushing government to confront climate change.

Even
before Trump came into office, there were massive protests during the
Obama administration against the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline,
the Dakota Access Pipeline and other carbon infrastructure throughout
the country.
People
protested the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
 (FERC),
which is an arm of the oil and gas industry disguised as a federal
agency. Obama’s FERC commissioners were a rubber stamp for the
industry, now, Trump’s FERC continues the practice.

People
were escalating actions during the Obama era saying
the
time for direct action on climate change is now
.
Protests were on an upswing before Trump was elected. Last September,
Bill McKibben
recalculated
the climate math
 showing
how time was running out.

From
the first day of the Trump administration people were taking
action.
Climate
activists blockaded Trump’s inauguration
 making
it more difficult for people to attend. In addition to protests
against specific carbon energy products, people mobilized
for
#DayAgainstDenial
Protests across U.S. to call attention to climate change
.

People
pushed businesses and local governments to pledge to reduce carbon
emissions resulting in
over
1,400 U.S. cities, states and businesses vowing to meet Paris climate
commitments
.
 Last week,
nine
eastern states jointly agreed
 to
reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent more than their
previous target.

There
is widespread
climate
change action, which is ‘unstoppable’ despite Trump’s
policies
. In
fact, Trump’s presidency may be leading to an escalation in
movement action as people know
we
can no longer hope to win by simply voting or speaking out
.
People are showing they are
willing
to risk going to jail
 for
a livable future. And, we have begun to see cases where
juries
are not willing to convict people for climate change protests.

Climate
change affects each of us and is an issue that unites us. When crisis
hits, we need to act as a community in mutual aid of each other.
Those cmmunity relationships can be built now so we are ready
in times of crisis.

The
only way we can mitigate and adapt to climate breakdown is by working
together toward the common goals of reducing our carbon footprint,
moving to a net zero carbon energy economy as soon as possible and
putting in place the infrastructure needed to adapt to the climate
crisis.

Popular Resistance

==============================

Urban Priol 2017 über AKP, Erdogan,Trump, Schulz co. (Kleinkunstpreis 2017)

Officials Finalize Plan To Expand Guantanamo Use

(ANTIWAR.COMWhile
President Trump has made clear he intends to not only keep Guantanamo
Bay open, but refill it with a new round of detainees, the
administration has been
struggling
with the legal obstacles surrounding a new influx of captives
.

The
goal is to come up with an executive order that not only reverses
President Obama’s 2009 pledge to eventually close the facility, but
to provide some sort of basis for putting newly captured people into
the facility, after years of trying to release most of those already
there.

The
initial executive order, which President Trump nearly signed back in
late July, would’ve allowed ISIS and al-Qaeda members to be held
there, despite warnings from legal officials about the consequences
this would have for the broader ISIS war.

Two
alternative versions now exist, one adding language that would grant
Defense Secretary James Mattis unilateral power to decide who to put
at Gitmo, and a third version that would provide guidelines to how
Mattis should decide on those people, and would promise a parole
board that decides whether to keep the detainees.

Either
providing guidelines or specifically restricting Gitmo to just ISIS
and al-Qaeda members is a shift from previous talk out of the Trump
White House, which suggested a
deliberately
vague
 policy
on who exactly might end up there.

On the Beach 2017: The Beckoning Of Nuclear War

Information

On
the Beach 2017: The Beckoning Of Nuclear War

By
John Pilger

The
US submarine captain says, “We’ve all got to die one day, some
sooner and some later. The trouble always has been that you’re
never ready, because you don’t know when it’s coming. Well, now
we do know and there’s nothing to be done about it.”

He
says he will be dead by September. It will take about a week to die,
though no one can be sure. Animals live the longest.

The
war was over in a month. The United States, Russia and China were the
protagonists. It is not clear if it was started by accident or
mistake. There was no victor. The northern hemisphere is contaminated
and lifeless now.

A
curtain of radioactivity is moving south towards Australia and New
Zealand, southern Africa and South America. By September, the last
cities, towns and villages will succumb. As in the north, most
buildings will remain untouched, some illuminated by the last
flickers of electric light.

                                  This
is the way the world ends

                                  Not
with a bang but a whimper

These
lines from T.S. Eliot’s poem
The
Hollow Men
 appear at
the beginning of Nevil Shute’s novel
 On
the Beach
, which
left me close to tears. The endorsements on the cover said the same.

Published
in 1957 at the height of the Cold War when too many writers were
silent or cowed, it is a masterpiece. At first the language suggests
a genteel relic; yet nothing I have read on nuclear war is as
unyielding in its warning. No book is more urgent.

I
read
On
the Beach
 for
the first time the other day, finishing it as the US Congress passed
a law to wage economic war on Russia, the world’s second most
lethal nuclear power.  There was no justification for this
insane vote, except the promise of plunder.

The
“sanctions” are aimed at Europe, too, mainly Germany, which
depends on Russian natural gas and on European companies that do
legitimate business with Russia. In what passed for debate on Capitol
Hill, the more garrulous senators left no doubt that the embargo was
designed to force Europe to import expensive American gas.

Their
main aim seems to be war – real war. No provocation as extreme can
suggest anything else. They seem to crave it, even though Americans
have little idea what war is. The Civil War of 1861-5 was the last on
their mainland. War is what the United States does to others.

The
only nation to have used nuclear weapons against human beings, they
have since destroyed scores of governments, many of them democracies,
and laid to waste whole societies – the million deaths in Iraq were
a fraction of the carnage in Indo-China, which President Reagan
called “a noble cause” and President Obama revised as the tragedy
of an “exceptional people”He was not referring to the Vietnamese.

Filming
last year at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, I overheard a
National Parks Service guide lecturing a school party of young
teenagers. “Listen up,” he said. “We lost 58,000 young soldiers
in Vietnam, and they died defending
your
freedom
.”

At
a stroke, the truth was inverted. No freedom was defended. Freedom
was destroyed. A peasant country was invaded and millions of its
people were killed, maimed, dispossessed, poisoned; 60,000 of the
invaders took their own lives. Listen up, indeed.

A
lobotomy is performed on each generation. Facts are removed. History
is excised and replaced by what
Time magazine
calls “an eternal present”. Harold Pinter described this as
“manipulation of power worldwide, while masquerading as a force for
universal good, a brilliant, even witty, highly successful act of
hypnosis [which meant] that it never happened. Nothing ever happened.
Even while it was happening it wasn’t happening. It didn’t
matter. It was of no interest.”

Those
who call themselves liberals or tendentiously “the left” are
eager participants in this manipulation, and its brainwashing, which
today revert to one name: Trump.

While
they pursue their fossilised anti-Russia agendas, narcissistic media
such as the
Washington
Post
,
the BBC and the
Guardian suppress
the essence of the most important political story of our time as they
warmonger on a scale I cannot remember in my lifetime.

On
3 August, in contrast to the acreage the
Guardian has
given to drivel that the Russians conspired with Trump (reminiscent
of the far-right smearing of John Kennedy as a “Soviet agent”),
the paper buried, on page 16, news that the President of the United
States was forced to sign a Congressional bill declaring economic war
on Russia.

Unlike
every other Trump signing, this was conducted in virtual secrecy and
attached with a caveat from Trump himself that it was “clearly
unconstitutional”.

A
coup against the man in the White House is under way. This is not
because he is an odious human being, but because he has consistently
made clear he does not want war with Russia.

This
glimpse of sanity, or simple pragmatism, is anathema to the “national
security” managers who guard a system based on war, surveillance,
armaments, threats and extreme capitalism. Martin Luther King called
them “the greatest purveyors of violence in the world today”.

They
have encircled Russia and China with missiles and a nuclear arsenal.
They have used neo-Nazis to instal an unstable, aggressive regime on
Russia’s “borderland” – the way through which Hitler invaded,
causing the deaths of 27 million people.  Their goal is to
dismember the modern Russian Federation.

The
threat is simultaneous. Russia is first, China is next. The US has
just completed a huge military exercise with Australia known as
Talisman Sabre. They rehearsed a blockade of the Malacca Straits and
the South China Sea, through which pass China’s economic lifelines.

The
admiral commanding the US Pacific fleet said that, “if required”,
he would nuke China. That he would say such a thing publicly in the
current perfidious atmosphere begins to make fact of Nevil Shute’s
fiction.

None
of this is considered news. No connection is made as the bloodfest of
Passchendaele a century ago is remembered. Honest reporting is no
longer welcome in much of the media. Windbags, known as pundits,
dominate: editors are infotainment or party line managers. Where
there was once sub-editing, there is the liberation of axe-grinding
clichés. Those journalists who do not comply are defenestrated.

At
the height of the Cold War, the anti-communist hysteria in the United
States was such that US officials who were on official business in
China were accused of treason and sacked. In 1957 – the year Shute
wrote
On
the Beach

no official in the State Department could speak the language of the
world’s most populous nation. Mandarin speakers were purged under
strictures now echoed in the Congressional bill that has just passed,
aimed at Russia.

The
bill was bipartisan. There is no fundamental difference between
Democrats and Republicans. The terms “left” and “right” are
meaningless.  Most of America’s modern wars were started not
by conservatives, but by liberal Democrats.

When
Obama left office, he presided over a record seven wars, including
America’s longest war and an unprecedented campaign of
extrajudicial killings – murder – by drones.

In
his last year, according to a Council on Foreign Relations study,
Obama, the “reluctant liberal warrior”, dropped 26,171 bombs –
three bombs every hour, 24 hours a day.  Having pledged to help
“rid the world” of nuclear weapons, the Nobel Peace Laureate
built more nuclear warheads than any president since the Cold War.

Trump
is a wimp by comparison.  It was Obama – with his secretary of
state Hillary Clinton at his side – who destroyed Libya as a modern
state and launched the human stampede to Europe. At home, immigration
groups knew him as the “deporter-in-chief”.

One
of Obama’s last acts as president was to sign a bill that handed a
record $618billion to the Pentagon, reflecting the soaring ascendancy
of fascist militarism in the governance of the United States. Trump
has endorsed this.

Buried
in the detail was the establishment of a “Center for Information
Analysis and Response”. This is a ministry of truth. It is tasked
with providing an “official narrative of facts” that will prepare
us for the real possibility of nuclear war – if we allow it.

On the Beach 2017: The Beckoning Of Nuclear War

America’s
Catastrophic — and Illegal — Intervention in Syria Must Be
Stopped

(ANTIMEDIA Op-ed)  Toward
the end of last year,
leaked
audio
 of
then-Secretary of State John Kerry went viral across the independent
media because it appeared to confirm that the U.S. was watching ISIS
and allowing the group to grow in order to exert pressure on the
Syrian government, a
 long-time
adversary
 of
the Obama administration.

However,
more stunning than this apparent admission was the fact that Kerry
confirmed what
Anti-Media has
been
 warning
about for some time now
 regarding
the legality of America’s Syrian operation. In the leaked audio,
speaking to Syrian opposition members at a meeting that took place at
the Dutch mission to the United Nations, Kerry stated:

The
problem is that the Russians don’t care about international law,
but we do. And we don’t have the basis –
our
lawyers tell us
 –
unless we have the
U.N. Security Council Resolution, which the Russians can veto, and
the Chinese, or unless we are under attack from the folks there, or
unless we are invited in.
Russia is invited in
by the legitimate regime
 –
well it’s
illegitimate in our mind – but by the regime. And so they were
invited in and we are not invited in. We’re flying in airspace
there where they can turn on the air defenses and we would have a
very different scene. The only reason they are letting us fly is
because we are going after ISIL. If we were going after Assad, those
air defenses, we would have to take out all the air defenses,
and
we don’t have the legal justification, frankly, unless we stretch
it way beyond the law
.” [emphasis
added]

As
a lawyer who is extremely concerned with human rights and
international law, I could have told John Kerry this for free. Though
this devastating truth is evident to anyone who has a basic
understanding of international legal principles, the fact that the
U.S. is still
pressing
ahead
 with
this strategy despite being informed of the illegality of the
operation by their lawyers is quite telling on its own.

It
is laughable that before stating this damning fact, Kerry alleged
that the Russians don’t care about international
law, but “we do” — before he went on to explain that Russia was
acting within the bounds of international law while the U.S. wasn’t.

In
all likelihood, the real reason Russia and Syria allow American
aircraft to fly in Syria’s airspace is not that they are targeting
ISIS, as Kerry pondered, but because there is very little that Russia
and Syria can do without risking an all-out war with the world’s
largest military superpower.

It
is almost like saying that Iraq ‘welcomed’ the U.S. invasion in
2003 because there was little that Saddam Hussein’s military could
do to stop it. Make no mistake, a country’s inability to drive the
U.S. out of its country
does
not
 equate
to tacit acceptance of its military presence. The schoolyard bully is
not welcomed by the silent kids he or she wails upon. In fact,
Syria’s president
 has
made it
 quite
clear that the U.S. has invaded its territory, and this alone should
be all the knowledge we need to oppose yet another American-led war
in the Middle East. Just because the U.S. is targeting ISIL and not
Assad, does not legitimize America’s operations at all, especially
in light of Kerry’s own assessment of the operation as referred to
above.

How
many countries does the U.S. have to invade illegally before its
people decide it’s time to do something about it?

The
2003 invasion of Iraq had no U.N. Security Council Resolution, and
the country has been
plagued
with rampant violence
 ever
since. If the Russians had not been
duped out
of vetoing the misused
U.N.
Security Council Resolution 1973
 with
regard to the Libyan conflict in 2011, then Libya would not be
the
failed
state
 it
is today. The Libyan resolution did not authorize regime change and
was specifically worded so as to be concerned with protecting
civilians on the ground. NATO used the authorization to transform
itself into the air force of
al-Qaeda-linked
rebels
 and
pounded Libya until Muammar Gaddafi had been
assassinated.

Under
President Trump, the U.S.’ bombing campaign in Syria makes
even
Obama
pale in comparison
.
The U.N.
 estimated that
in just the first week of America’s ramped up illegal bombing
campaign in Raqqa, airstrikes killed 300 civilians.

Even
if the U.S. does have some legal justification to bomb Syria,
shouldn’t we
still oppose
military intervention? The U.S. has waged war in a number of
countries since the attacks of September 11, and
millions
of people
 have
died as a result of these American-led conflicts.
Terror
attacks
 still
run rampant; part and parcel of the vicious cycle of
violence
responding to violence
 across
the globe.

In
areas that have been liberated by the Syrian government,
hundreds
of thousands
 of
displaced Syrians are returning home. In Aleppo, in a
Christian-inclined district that was besieged by fanatic rebels who
abhor religious diversity, a Cathedral just
 reopened with
a Mozart-inspired concert – something that would have been
 almost
impossible
 under
rebel-held rule.

It
is also worth pondering why it is that the U.S., a majority Christian
nation, is siding with
 Islamist
rebels
 against a
government that
 protects the
rights of Christians. It makes no sense outside of a
geopolitical
lens
,
and Trump supporters who openly profess to be “good American
Christians” should take note of this damning fact.

Forget
the legality of the war for a minute, forget the
 mounting
death toll
 that
is only able to accrue courtesy of your taxpayer dollars, and take a
moment to figure out where we are
 headed
as a species
.

The
U.S. has not only placed itself in a worldwide conflict with no
foreseeable end that will
continue
to line
 the
pockets of the arms-dealing class for centuries to come, but it is
also bombing the same territory as another nuclear power
with
complete
polar opposite interests
.
It is a powder keg that has been waiting a few years to ignite, and
the two nuclear powers are becoming ever closer to bombing the
 exact
same location
 with
different ambitions as to which party to the conflict should emerge
as the victor.

The
potential for this conflict to dramatically escalate should be high
enough to warrant a mobilization of effective resistance. If you
don’t want your sons, daughters, partners, parents, and friends to
go and die in Syria propping up a failing empire concerned only with
money and resources, now is the time to act. You can’t afford to
wait until body bags of loved ones come parading home before you
decide that enough is enough — by
 then
it may be too late
.

Before
anyone accuses me of sounding the alarm prematurely — and though
the corporate media has attempted to accuse Trump of conceding to
Putin inside Syria — can anyone name another conflict in which two
nuclear-armed powers were bombing the same country with completely
different intentions that was also concluded and de-escalated in a
timely, safe, secure, and low-risk manner?

Didn’t
think so.

The
battle against ISIS is still ongoing and involves multiple state
actors attempting to hoard as much Syrian territory as physically
possible. It is clear that the U.S. has no legal or moral right to be
inside Syria in the first place, so does it seem fair to endanger
countless more lives in order for the U.S. to gift its proxies a
chunk of Syrian territory after ISIS’ downfall?

Ron
Paul: Janet Yellen is a False Prophet of Prosperity

(RPIFederal
Reserve Chair Janet Yellen recently predicted that, thanks to the
regulations implemented after the 2008 market meltdown, America would
not experience another economic crisis “in our lifetimes.”
Yellen’s statement should send shivers down our spines, as there
are few more reliable signals of an impending recession, or worse,
than when so-called “experts” proclaim that we are in an era of
unending prosperity.

For
instance, in the years leading up to the 2008 market meltdown,
then-Fed Chair Ben Bernanke repeatedly denied the existence of a
housing bubble. In February 2007, Bernanke not only denied that
“sluggishness” in the housing market would affect the general
economy, but predicted that the economy would expand in 2007 and
2008. Of course, instead of years of economic growth, 2007 and 2008
were marked by a market meltdown whose effects are still being felt.

Yellen’s
happy talk ignores a number of signs that the economy is on the verge
of another crisis. In recent months, the US has experienced a decline
in economic growth and the value of the dollar. The only economic
statistic showing a positive trend is the unemployment rate — and
that is only because the official unemployment rate does not count
those who have given up looking for work. The real unemployment rate
is at least 50 percent higher than the manipulated “official”
rate.

A
recent Treasury Department report’s called for rolling back of bank
regulations could further

destabilize
the economy. This seems counterintuitive, as rolling back regulations
usually contributes to economic growth. However, rolling back bank
regulations without ending subsidies like deposit insurance that
create a moral hazard that incentivizes banks to engage in risky
business practices could cause banks to resume the unsound lending
practices that were a major contributor to the growth, and collapse,
of the housing bubble.

The
US economy is already faced with several bubbles that could implode
at any time. These include bubbles in student loans and automobiles
sales, and even another housing bubble. The most dangerous of these
bubbles is the government bubble caused by excessive spending.
According to a 2016 study by the Mercatus Center, at least four
states could soon join Puerto Rico and Illinois in facing bankruptcy.

Of
course, the mother of all government bubbles is the federal spending
bubble. Despite claims of both defenders and critics of the
president’s budget, neither President Trump nor the Republican
Congress have any plans for, or interest in, reducing spending in any
area. Even the so-called cuts in Medicare and other entitlement
programs that have generated such hysterics are not real cuts, but
“reductions in the rate of growth.”

Some
fiscal conservatives are praising the administration’s proposal to
finance transportation spending via government bonds. However, the
people will eventually have to pay for these bonds either directly
through income taxes or indirectly through the inflation tax.
Government-issued bonds harm the economy by diverting investment
capital away from the private sector to the “mixed economy”
controlled by politicians, bureaucrats, and crony capitalists.

If
Congress continues to increase spending and the Federal Reserve
continues to facilitate that spending by monetizing the debt,
Americans will face an economic crisis more severe than the Great
Depression. The crisis will likely result from a rejection of the
dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Those of us who know the
truth must redouble our efforts to ensure a peaceful transition away
from the Keynesian system of welfare, warfare, and fiat currency to a
society of peace, prosperity, and liberty.

Democraten VS kochten informatie over Trump >> Forgetting the ‘Dirty Dossier’ on Trump

Forgetting
the ‘Dirty Dossier’ on Trump

By
Robert Parry

Exclusive:
The new Russia-gate furor is over Donald Trump Jr. meeting a Russian
who claimed to have dirt on Hillary Clinton, but the Clinton team’s
Russian cash-for-trash search against Trump Sr. is all but forgotten,
writes Robert Parry.

Essentially,
Trump’s oldest son is being accused of taking a meeting with a
foreign national who claimed to have knowledge of potentially illegal
activities by Trump’s Democratic rivals, although the promised
information apparently turned out to be a dud.

Yet,
on Monday, the Times led its newspaper with a story about this
meeting – and commentators on MSNBC and elsewhere are labeling
Trump Jr. a criminal if not a traitor for hearing out this lawyer.

Yet,
no one seems to remember that Hillary Clinton supporters paid large
sums of money, reportedly about $1 million, to have ex-British spy
Christopher Steele use his Russian connections to dig up dirt on
Trump inside Russia, resulting in a salacious dossier that Clinton
backers eagerly hawked to the news media.

Also,
the two events – Trump Jr.’s meeting with the Russian lawyer and
the Clinton camp’s commissioning of Steele’s Russia dossier –
both occurred in June 2016, so you might have thought it would be a
journalistic imperative to incorporate a reference or two to the
dossier.

But
the closest the Times came to that was noting: “Political campaigns
collect opposition research from many quarters but rarely from
sources linked to foreign governments.” That would have been an
opportune point to slide in a paragraph about the Steele dossier, but
nothing.

But
the Steele dossier is a more immediate and direct example of close
Hillary Clinton supporters going outside the United States for dirt
on Trump and collaborating with foreign nationals to dig it up –
allegedly from Kremlin insiders. Although it is still not clear
exactly who footed the bill for the Steele dossier and how much money
was spread around to the Russian contacts, it is clear that Clinton
supporters paid for the opposition research and then flacked the
material to American journalists.

As
I wrote on March 29, “An irony of the escalating hysteria about the
Trump camp’s contacts with Russians is that one presidential
campaign in 2016 did exploit political dirt that supposedly came from
the Kremlin and other Russian sources. Friends of that political
campaign paid for this anonymous hearsay material, shared it with
American journalists and urged them to publish it to gain an
electoral advantage. But this campaign was not Donald Trump’s; it
was Hillary Clinton’s.

And,
awareness of this activity doesn’t require you to spin conspiracy
theories about what may or may not have been said during some
seemingly innocuous conversation. In this case, you have open
admissions about how these Russian/Kremlin claims were used.

Indeed,
you have the words of Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democratic member
of the House Intelligence Committee, in his
opening
statement
 at
[a] public hearing on so-called ‘Russia-gate.’ Schiff’s
seamless 15-minute narrative of the Trump campaign’s alleged
collaboration with Russia followed the script prepared by former
British intelligence officer Christopher Steele who was hired as an
opposition researcher last June [2016] to dig up derogatory
information on Donald Trump.

Steele,
who had worked for Britain’s MI-6 in Russia, said he tapped into
ex-colleagues and unnamed sources inside Russia, including leadership
figures in the Kremlin, to piece together
a
series of sensational reports
 that
became the basis of the current congressional and FBI investigations
into Trump’s alleged ties to Moscow.

Since
he was not able to go to Russia himself, Steele based his reports
mostly on multiple hearsay from anonymous Russians who claim to have
heard some information from their government contacts before passing
it on to Steele’s associates who then gave it to Steele who
compiled this mix of rumors and alleged inside dope into ‘raw’
intelligence reports.

Besides
the anonymous sourcing and the sources’ financial incentives to dig
up dirt, Steele’s reports had numerous other problems, including
the inability of a variety of investigators to confirm key elements,
such as the salacious claim that several years ago Russian
intelligence operatives secretly videotaped Trump having prostitutes
urinate on him while he lay in the same bed in Moscow’s
Ritz-Carlton used by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

That
tantalizing tidbit was included in Steele’s opening report to his
new clients, dated June 20, 2016. Apparently, it proved irresistible
in whetting the appetite of Clinton’s mysterious benefactors who
were financing Steele’s dirt digging and who have kept their
identities (and the amounts paid) hidden. Also in that first report
were the basic outlines of what has become the scandal that is now
threatening the survival of Trump’s embattled presidency.

“Every
country destroyed or destabilized by U.S. military action is now a
breeding ground for terrorism.”

The
U.S. bombing campaign in Iraq and Syria is now the heaviest since the
bombing of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in the 1960s-70s, with 84,000
bombs and missiles dropped between 2014 and the end of May 2017. That
is nearly triple the 29,200 bombs and missiles dropped on Iraq in the
“Shock and Awe” campaign of 2003.

The
Obama administration escalated the bombing campaign last October, as
the U.S.-Iraqi assault on Mosul began, dropping 12,290 bombs and
missiles between October and the end of January when President Obama
left office. The Trump administration has further escalated the
campaign, dropping another 14,965 bombs and missiles since February
1st.  May saw the heaviest bombing yet, with 4,374 bombs and
missiles dropped.

The U.K.-based Airwars.org monitoring group
has compiled reports of between 12,000 and 18,000 civilians killed by
nearly three years of U.S.-led bombing in Iraq and Syria. These
reports can only be the tip of the iceberg, and the true number of
civilians killed could well be more than 100,000, based on typical
ratios between reported deaths and actual deaths in previous
war-zones.

As
the U.S. and its allies closed in on Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in
Syria, and as U.S. forces now occupy eight military bases in Syria,
Islamic State and its allies have struck back in Manchester and
London; occupied Marawi, a city of 200,000 in the Philippines; and
exploded a huge truck bomb inside the fortifications of the “Green
Zone” in Kabul, Afghanistan.

What
began in 2001 as a misdirected use of military force to punish a
group of formerly U.S.-backed jihadis in Afghanistan for the crimes
of September 11th has escalated into a global asymmetric war.
Every country destroyed or destabilized by U.S. military action is
now a breeding ground for terrorism.  It would be foolish to
believe that this cannot get much, much worse, as long as both sides
continue to justify their own escalations of violence as responses to
the violence of their enemies, instead of trying to deescalate the
now global violence and chaos.

The US State of War

Risk of Unleashing ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis >> Een losgeslagen psychopaat als VS minister van defensie……

In
mid-April, after a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan, President Trump
explained his thinking as he reveled in the first use of the massive
“mother of all bombs” that was dropped on an Islamic State target
in Afghanistan.

Trump
said, “What I do is I authorize my military, we have the greatest
military in the world, and they’ve done the job, as usual. We have
given them total authorization, and that’s what they’re doing.
Frankly, that’s why they’ve been so successful lately. If you
look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that
really to what has happened over the last eight years, you’ll see
there is a tremendous difference.”

That
bombing in Afghanistan followed Trump’s order to fire 59 Tomahawk
missiles aimed at a Syrian government airfield that he alleged to be
the launch point for an April 4 chemical weapons attack on the town
of Khan Sheikhoun.

Besides
the missile strike – for which Trump got no authorization from
either Congress or the United Nations Security Council – U.S.
warplanes bombed pro-government forces inside Syria for allegedly
getting too close to U.S.-backed rebels and shot down a Syrian plane
for the same reason. These attacks against Syrian government targets
represented an escalation of U.S. participation in the six-year-old
conflict. President Obama had limited direct U.S. attacks against
ISIS positions inside Syria.

Although
Mattis intentionally limits his contact with the public and the
press, some of his past statements reveal his mindset. In Iraq in
2003, Mattis coached arriving Marines, “Be polite, be professional,
but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.” And in 2005, the man
who has been unleashed by the President said, “You go into
Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years
because they didn’t wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain’t
got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot
them. Actually it’s quite fun to fight them, you know. It’s a
hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right up
there with you. I like brawling.”

With
Mattis at the Pentagon’s helm, the Trump administration has rapidly
shifted toward a military dynamic, taking aim at many of the old
neocon targets, including Syria and Iran. Mattis’s combative
perspective seems to be at the core of these policies although – as
a military officer – he does recognize the realities of war.

In
late May, Mattis gave a rare interview to CBS’s
Face
The Nation
.
Speaking about North Korea, he declared that the conflict could turn
“catastrophic” and “would be probably the worst kind of
fighting in most people’s lifetimes.”

The
shallow compliments showered upon men like Mattis are symptoms of a
country blindly embracing an egotistical and militaristic mindset.
