Jonathan Marcus (BBC) met anti-Assad propaganda: Deir ez-Zor ligt op de weg van Teheran naar Libanon…..

Jonathan Marcus, correspondent van de BBC, vertelde afgelopen zaterdag (rond 10.19 u. CET) op BBC World Service radio, dat de VS volkomen legitiem een Syrische straaljager en een Iraanse drone uit de lucht hebben geschoten, een enorme oorlogsmisdaad, daar de VS volkomen illegaal in en boven Syrië opereert……. (Let wel: de BBC verkoopt zich als een onafhankelijke zendgemachtigde…….)

Dit terwijl deze toestellen bezig waren met de strijd tegen moorddadige terreurgroepen als IS en Al Qaida (de laatste is wat betreft de tak in Syrië, door de VS tot partner in de strijd verklaard en van de ‘zwarte lijst’ gehaald……). Als je Marcus moet geloven bestookten Syrië en Iran ‘gematigde rebellen…….’ ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Wat een vieze oplichter, ‘gematigde rebellen’ bestaan niet in Syrië!! (over ‘nepnieuws’ gesproken….)

Dat Syrië inzet op de stad Deir ez-Zor, heeft alles te maken met het feit, dat daarmee voor Iran de weg vanuit Teheran naar Libanon (Hezbollah) wordt veilig gesteld, aldus Marcus……* Alsof de leugenaar niet weet, dat er juist in het gebied rond Deir ez-Zor grote olievoorraden zitten, uiterst belangrijk voor een land dat door machinaties van de VS en haar soennitisch arabische en westerse bondgenoten, bijna geheel in puin ligt……..

Maar nee, voor Marcus is het behoud van de stad in het belang van Iran, dat grotere invloed wil hebben in de regio…… De schoft moet weten, dat Iran slechts met een bescheiden ‘troepenmacht’ in Syrië zit, maakt niet uit Marcus liegt gewoon keihard door………

Rex Tillerson en James ‘mad dog’ Mattis, u weet wel 2 gevaarlijke psychopathische gekken, die door Trump (respectievelijk) zijn aangewezen als minister van Buitenlandse Zaken en Defensie (Defensie: lees; ‘Oorlog’), zijn beiden gewichtige staatsmannen aldus Marcus…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Halleluja jutteperen, wat een slechte propaganda verspreider die Marcus, jezus!!!

* De BBC verdedigde eerder al de leugen, dat de illegale bombardementen van Israël op konvooien van het reguliere Syrische leger, bedoeld waren om te voorkomen dat er wapens van Teheran naar Hezbollah in Libanon werden vervoerd…….. Enorme oorlogsmisdaden begaan door Israël, met een excuus waar geen flinter bewijs voor was/is……. Wel werd door die bombardementen de opmars van het Syrische leger richting IS/Al Qaida gebied vertraagd…….

Afgelopen woensdag ontving ik een artikel van Anti-Media waarin Shahtahmasebi de huidige situatie in Syrië beschrijft en zaken noemt, waarover de reguliere, zogenaamd onafhankelijke (massa-) media niet berichten.

De situatie in Syrië escaleert in redelijk tempo, aldus Shahtahmasebi, waarbij hij onder meer wijst op het neerschieten van een Syrische jager, door de illegaal in Syrië aanwezige VS. Dit werd gevolgd door het neerschieten van een Iraanse drone, door dezelfde terreurentiteit. Beide toestellen waren bezig IS te bestrijden. Volgens de VS waren deze toestellen bezig met het bestoken van door haar gesteunde ‘gematigde rebellen’ (lees: psychopathische moordenaars en verkrachters)…….. Onlangs nog nam de VS het besluit Al Qaida Syrië van de terreurlijst te halen…………

Shahtahmasebi vraagt zich af wat er echt gaande is in Syrië en of de VS uit is op een volledige oorlog met Syrië, Iran en Rusland……

De VS steunt de Koerden, dit zeer tegen de zin van Turkije, de VS doet dit vooral om straks in Koerdisch gebied een grote permanente VS basis te kunnen bouwen. Dit uiteraard niet alleen tegen de zin van Turkije, maar ook van Syrië, Iran en Rusland, de laatste twee zijn overigens wel legaal aanwezig in Syrië, immers de democratisch gekozen regering Assad heeft hen om hulp gevraagd.

Je kan rustig stellen, dat de Koerden zich laten misbruiken door de uiterst agressieve VS….

Zo zijn de Koeren ook bezig om Deir ez-Zor te veroveren*, voorts wil de VS dat de strategische grensstad al-Waleed (in het artikel van A-M: al-Tanf) in handen komt van de Koerden (door de VS en reguliere westerse media: Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) genoemd…). Al-Waleed is een stad op de grens met Irak en Jordanië, vandaar ook zeer belangrijk. Deir ez-Zor is na Raqqa het laatste gebied in handen van IS, de stad is nu in handen van het reguliere Syrische leger. Dat laatste heeft ervoor gezorgd dat de VS strijders van IS vrije doorgang met hun voertuigen en wapens hebben gegeven vanuit Raqqa (zoals eerder uit het Iraakse Mosul). Het gebied van Deir ez-Zor is voorts belangrijk vanwege grote olievoorraden…..

Kortom Shahtahmasebi ziet alle mogelijkheden voor een nog snellere escalatie van de oorlog in Syrië, waar hij het gelijk aan zijn kant heeft, niet zo moeilijk gezien het steeds agressiever optreden van de VS, dezelfde VS die niets, maar dan ook niets te zoeken heeft in Syrië….. Een verdere escalatie zal hoogstwaarschijnlijk leiden tot een oorlog met Iran en Rusland…….

Vergeet bij het voorgaande niet, dat de VS al onder Reagan bezig was met het plannen van een oorlog tegen Syrië, iets dat men in 2006 weer ter hand nam. De opstand die in 2011 uitbrak in Syrië is dan ook gepland en gefinancierd door de VS, met hulp van Groot-Brittannië, Saoedi-Arabië en Egypte. Een opstand die tot een staatsgreep tegen Assad had moeten leiden, maar totaal mislukte! (in Oekraïne gebruikte de VS hetzelfde scenario, daar lukte het wel…..)

You’re Not Being Told About the US War Against ISIS in Syria

(ANTIMEDIA) — It’s
time to have a sane discussion regarding what is going on in Syria.
Things have escalated exponentially over the past month or so, and
they continue to escalate. The U.S. just shot
down yet another Iranian-made
drone within Syrian territory on Tuesday, even as
authorities insist they “do
not seek conflict with any party in Syria other than ISIS.”

Col.
Ryan Dillon, chief U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, seemed to
indicate that the coalition would avoid escalating the conflict
following Russia’s
warning that
it will now treat American aircraft as potential targets. He stated:

“As
a result of recent encounters involving pro-Syrian regime and Russian
forces, we have taken prudent measures to reposition aircraft
over Syria so as to continue targeting ISIS forces while ensuring the
safety of our aircrews given known threats in the battlespace.”

So
what is really going on in Syria? Is the U.S. actually seeking an
all-out confrontation with Syria, Iran, and Russia?

The
first thing to note is that a policy switch under the Trump
administration has seen the U.S. rely heavily
on Kurdish fighters on
the ground as opposed to the radical Gulf-state backed Islamist
rebels,
which the U.S. and its allies had been using in their proxy war for
over half a decade. Even the Obama administration designated the
Kurds the most
effective fighting force against
ISIS and partnered with them from time to time, but Turkey’s
decision to directly strike these fighters complicates the matter to
this day.

Further
muddling the situation is the fact that the U.S. wants the Kurds to
claim key Syrian cities after ISIS is defeated, including
Raqqa.
However, the reason this complicates matters is that, as Joshua
Landis, head of the Middle Eastern Studies Center at the University
of Oklahoma explains,
the Kurds have “no money” nor do they have an air force.

“[T]hey’ll
be entirely dependent on the US Air Force from now to eternity, and
the United States will be stuck in a quagmire, defending a new
Kurdish state that America had partnered with to defeat
[ISIL],” Landis
said, as reported by Quartz.

So
what has the U.S. proposed as a solution to this perpetual dilemma?
To put it simply, the U.S. is not only training the
so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to retain the vitally
strategic border crossing area of al-Tanf, which, if owned and
operated by the Syrian government, could
link Iran
to Syria, Iraq, and right through to Hezbollah in Lebanon
(incidentally, al-Tanf is the latest instance of the U.S. shooting
down an Iranian-made drone took place). The U.S. is now also backing
these Kurdish fighters to retake an area known as Deir ez-Zor.

The
Syrian government retains an isolated
outpost at
Deir ez-Zor, and the region is almost completely encircled by ISIS
fighters. Just last week, a video emerged of
convoys of ISIS fighters fleeing the war in Raqqa
unscathed. Anti-Media speculated
that these fighters were most likely headed towards Deir ez-Zor
as they
have done in the past,
and this area is now widely
regarded to
be the scene of ISIS’ last stand in Syria.

The
U.S. needs a strong ISIS presence in Deir ez-Zor to justify an
offensive to retake the city, especially considering the fact that
Syrian government troops are already present there. This is why the
U.S. delivered airstrikes
to stop government forces from
repelling ISIS fighters in an air raid in September of last year that
reportedly lasted well over an hour and killed over 60 government
troops.

Deir
ez-Zor is immensely important because it is home to Syria’s largest
oil fields. As Quartz explains,
according to Landis, America’s strategy is “for
the Kurdish forces to take Deir al-Zour, the major regional city and
the hub for its oil fields. That way, the Kurds would be able to
afford to buy airplanes from the US, rather than require Washington
to give them for free.”

As
Iranian-backed militiamen — supported by Iranian-made drones
— amass upon
a U.S. training base in al-Tanf, it is becoming increasingly clear
that the Syrian government and its allies will not want to cede
strategic territory to the U.S. without a fight. At the very least,
Iran intends to encircle al-Tanf and cut the U.S. off from the rest
of Syria, rendering
the base useless for
America’s goals in the country.

However,
Deir ez-Zor is where things could potentially get more heated than
they already are between the U.S. and the pro-Assad alliance in
al-Tanf and Raqqa.

Russia,
a staunch ally of Iran and Syria, is already bombing the areas around
Deir ez-Zor in full preparation for this battle. According to
the Independent,
Russia just claimed it killed around
180 ISIS militants and
two prominent commanders, Abu Omar al-Belijiki and Abu Yassin
al-Masri, very close to ISIS’ stronghold in Deir ez-Zor.

Iran launched a
mid-range ballistic missile attack on a position in Deir ez-Zor over
the weekend, as well. According to Military
Times,
Iranian officials said the purpose of the strike was to send a
message to the United States and Saudi Arabia and have warned of more
strikes to come, with former Guard chief Gen. Mohsen Rezai — an
Iranian politician — stating “[t]he
bigger slap is yet to come.”

Landis
believes these recent escalations only mark a “gnashing of teeth
and growling” between the Russians and the Americans and that both
powers are merely working out where the new boundaries will fall
between American-backed forces and Syrian government forces.

But
there is a crucial difference between the Russian-led campaigns and
the American-led campaigns within Syria: Russia was invited by
the Syrian government and is not clearly not attempting to invade
Syria in the traditional sense of the word, as they are relying on
local troops to retake the territory that still belongs to the Syrian
government. In contrast, the United States has invaded Syrian
territory without authorization from Congress or the international
community and has partnered with incredibly
controversial militias
on the ground to claim Syrian territory, further partitioning the
country and over-complicating an already convoluted battle arena.

And
what will happen if Syria decides that the oil-hub area of Deir
ez-Zor is too important to allow the U.S.-backed forces to take it
away from them? The fact that Russia and Iran are already bombing
this area speaks volumes as to its strategic value, and it seems
increasingly unlikely that the pro-Assad alliance will give up the
location freely.

Further,
having complete control of Deir ez-Zor without opening up the al-Tanf
border to Syrian government control would make the liberation of Deir
ez-Zor almost meaningless to Syria and its allies, as Deir ez-Zor
would be cut off from the rest of Syria. The two offensives go hand
in hand, and this is exactly why we see the war escalating
rapidly on
these two fronts.

Not
to mention, Syrian Member of Parliament Ammar al-Asad reportedly
just told Russian
state-owned Sputnik that
the Syrian army will respond to America’s provocative actions by
conducting “massive strikes” on positions held by American-backed
militants.

An
optimist would view the recent developments in the humanitarian
disaster that is the so-called Syrian revolution with the hope that
the U.S., Iran, and Russia are merely muscle-flexing inside Syria in
an attempt to control as much of the country as realistically
possible following the downfall of ISIS – and will eventually
settle amicably on a drawing of Syria’s new boundaries.

A
pessimist might not be so hopeful, as Iran and China held naval
drills in
the Strait of Hormuz just days after Secretary of State Rex
Tillerson admitted the
U.S. is officially targeting Iran for a regime change operation.

Midden-Oosten: kruistochten toen en westers ingrijpen nu, er is maar weinig veranderd……..

Mensen laten we eerlijk zijn, de kruisvaarders en -ridders die in de middeleeuwen naar het Midden-Oosten trokken, waren voor het overgrote deel psychopathische moordenaars, die als religieuze extremisten enorme bloedbaden hebben aangericht.

Sinds 1990 heeft de VS, met steun van veel andere westerse landen, gigantische bloedbaden aangericht in het Midden-Oosten, dit keer niet vanwege religie, maar vanwege de strategische belangen van dit gebied, lees: de enorme olie- en gasvoorraden. De huidige oorlog tegen Syrië, al vanaf 2006 voorbereid door de VS en een aantal bondgenoten (waaronder de religieuze terreurdictatuur Saoedi-Arabië ) is ingegeven vanwege de weigering van dat land, doorgang te bieden aan pijpleidingen voor gas en olie richting het Europa van de EU………

Overigens had de VS al onder Reagan het plan om het bewind van Assad (de vader van de huidige democratische gekozen president) omver te werpen…….

Uiteraard is er nog een andere reden, voor het in puin leggen van landen in het Midden-Oosten: de belangenbehartiging van de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël, door diezelfde landen o.l.v. de VS…..

Hoewel we tegenwoordig liever niet herinnerd worden aan de kruistochten, zijn de illegale oorlogen die de VS in het Midden-Oosten is begonnen, voorpagina nieuws in het westen, waar men ‘uiteraard’ geen vraagtekens zet bij de grootschalige terreur die de VS uitoefent in het Midden-Oosten, sterker nog: de reguliere media gebruiken zelfs de leugens die de VS hen voorkauwt en waarmee deze vereniging van terreurstaten haar handelen probeert te legitimeren……… Vandaar ook dat een aantal westerse landen, zoals Nederland, meewerken aan die VS terreur……

Zo bezien is er maar weinig veranderd sinds de eerste kruistochten, ook toen werden de leugens over de noodzaak van oorlog (door de katholieke kerk) voor zoete koek geslikt………. Al moet gezegd worden, dat het aantal vermoordde burgers in de landen die het aangaat, oneindig veel groter zijn, dan het aantal moorden tijdens de kruistochten………. Zo zijn er alleen met de illegale oorlog die de VS in 2003 tegen Irak begon, intussen al meer dan 1,5 miljoen Irakezen vermoord………

VS overheden behandelden demonstranten tegen de DAPL als terroristen, zo blijkt uit gelekte documenten…..

Anti-Media bracht afgelopen zaterdag het bericht, dat gelekte documenten het bewijs hebben geleverd, voor het labelen van demonstranten als terrorist door de overheid in de VS…….

Dat de VS een politiestaat is, zal voor velen geen geheim meer zijn en keer op keer komen daarvoor de bewijzen op tafel, zoals afgelopen zaterdag……

Bij de protesten tegen de Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), die ongeveer een jaar duurden, gebruikte de overheid zwaar geweld tegen de demonstranten en werden de vreedzame demonstranten door de verschillende overheidsdiensten aangemerkt als terroristen, letterlijk: ‘jihadist fighters’ (dit geweld in samenwerking met de oliemaatschappij die de pijpleiding ‘nodig had’ en het bedrijf dat deze aanlegde)………

Overigens zijn de eerste lekken al geconstateerd in de intussen werkende pijpleiding, precies daarvoor waarschuwden de demonstranten, bestaande uit de oorspronkelijke bewoners van de VS en medestanders…………

Eerder pasten een paar staten van de VS regelgeving aan, waarbij werd gesteld dat automobilisten die demonstranten aanrijden (demonstranten die zich op autowegen ophouden), niet vervolgd zullen worden……..

Documents Prove the U.S. Treats Protesters Like Terrorists

Leaked
docs reveal the collusion between local police forces, pipeline
company, and defense contractors as they executed ‘military-style
counterterrorism measures’ to suppress DAPL protesters.

COMMONDREAMS) The
years-long, Indigenous-led fight against the Dakota
Access Pipeline (DAPL)
briefly captured the nation’s attention last fall as images of
peaceful protesters being sprayed with water canons and
surrounded by police in tanks and other military-grade equipment were
spread widely, fueling global outrage and a fierce protest movement
against the oil pipeline.

Now
that the pipeline is operational and already
leaking,
internal documents obtained by The
Intercept and reported on
Saturday reveal the deep collusion between local police forces, the
pipeline company, and defense contractors as they executed
“military-style counterterrorism measures” to suppress the water
protectors.

TigerSwan,
described as a “shadowy international mercenary and security firm”
that “originated as a U.S. military and State Department contractor
helping to execute the global war on terror,” was hired by Energy
Transfer Partners to spearhead “a multifaceted private security
operation characterized by sweeping and invasive surveillance of
protesters,” The
Intercept wrote.

Reportedly,
one of TigerSwan’s contractors leaked 100 internal documents to
reporters Alleen Brown, Will Parrish, and Alice Speri, who were able
to assemble roughly 1,000 more via public records requests.


The
trove paints a damning picture of the police response to the
Indigenous-led effort to block construction of the pipeline on
sacred, treaty land and is a shocking example of how anti-terrorist
rhetoric and tactics could be applied to any uprising the government
would like to suppress.

According
to the reporting:

“Internal
TigerSwan communications describe the movement as ‘an ideologically
driven insurgency with a strong religious component’ and compare
the anti-pipeline water protectors to jihadist fighters. One report,
dated February 27, 2017, states that since the movement ‘generally
followed the jihadist insurgency model while active, we can expect
the individuals who fought for and supported it to follow a
post-insurgency model after its collapse.’ Drawing comparisons with
post-Soviet Afghanistan, the report warns, ‘While we can expect to
see the continued spread of the anti-DAPL diaspora…aggressive
intelligence preparation of the battlefield and active coordination
between intelligence and security elements are now a proven method of
defeating pipeline insurgencies.’”

“As
policing continues to be militarized and state legislatures around
the country pass laws criminalizing protest,” Brown, Parrish, and
Speri write, “the fact that a private security firm retained by a
Fortune 500 oil and gas company coordinated its efforts with local,
state, and federal law enforcement to undermine the protest movement
has profoundly anti-democratic implications.”


Indeed,
in the wake of the 2016 election, Republican
legislatures in
at least 19 states introduced
various anti-protest
laws, many with a deliberate nod to the uprising in North Dakota.

Not
only that, but Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier, who oversaw the
police response to the DAPL resistance, has been advising other
law enforcement on how to deal with protests and demonstrations.

Indeed,
the documents reportedly show that Energy Transfer Partners has
“continued to retain TigerSwan,” despite the fact that the
anti-DAPL camps have disbanded. The security firm continues to
produce so-called situation
reports that
document “the threat of growing activism around other pipeline
projects across the country.” These reports include “intelligence
on upcoming protests,” information gleaned from social media, and
“extensive evidence of aerial surveillance and radio eavesdropping,
as well as infiltration of camps and activist circles.”

In
some cases, persons “of interest” were even tracked when they
crossed over state lines.

What’s
more, the documents obtained via open records requests include
“communications among agents from the FBI, the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS), the U.S. Justice Department, the Marshals Service,
and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, as well as state and local police,”
that reveals interagency collusion and information sharing on the
anti-DAPL protesters.

VS dropt honderden parachutisten in Mosul……..

Volgens Antiwar (via Anti-Media) zendt de VS voor de zoveelste keer ‘tijdelijk’ honderden militairen extra naar Irak, dit keer parachutisten voor de strijd in West-Mosul. Tijdelijk tussen aanhalingstekens, daar deze extra troepen, keer op keer niet worden teruggetrokken en het Pentagon op deze manier de regering kan omzeilen voor deze inzet. Al zal de regering Trump hoogstwaarschijnlijk geen problemen hebben met de aanwas van VS troepen in Irak.

Deze extra militairen zouden zijn bedoeld om te ‘adviseren en te assisteren……’ Deze woorden worden keer op keer gebruikt om te verdoezelen, dat ze wel degelijk deel zullen nemen aan de gevechten…… Gevreesd moet dan ook worden, dat de strijd in Mosul verder zal escaleren….. ‘Gevreesd’ voor de bewoners wel te verstaan, want hoe groot de opgeklopte hysterie ook was over de bevrijding door de Russen en het reguliere Syrische leger van het Syrische Oost-Aleppo, in Mosul gaat men veel harder tekeer….

Zo heeft de ‘Irak-coalitie’ (in feite een VS-coalitie) al een enorm aantal burgers vermoord in en rond Mosul, o.a. middels luchtbombardementen, waar de Russen en het Syrische leger al een paar maanden voor de bevrijding van Oost-Aleppo stopten met deze bombardementen. Kijk daar hoor je de westerse politici en reguliere afhankelijke westerse massamedia niet over, ‘logisch’ immers ‘alles wat de VS doet is goed……’

Je kan er donder opzeggen, dat deze troepen gebruikt zullen worden om na Mosul, in Syrië te vechten tegen het democratisch gekozen* regime Assad……. Assad zal en moet weg in de visie van de VS, waarna Syrië moet worden opgedeeld, zoals ook Joegoslavië werd opgedeeld, men spreekt dan ook van de ‘balkanisering’ van Syrië…….

Die balkanisering is -goed voor de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël (die keer op keer volkomen illegaal Syrische stellingen van het leger bombardeert. To Send Hundreds of Paratroopers Into Mosul

(ANTIWAR) On
Sunday, reports
began emerging that the Pentagon was intending to
send more combat troops into western Mosul, the latest in a long line
of escalations of US military involvement in the battle over Mosul,
with an eye toward getting Iraq’s stalled offensive back on track.

Yesterday,
the Military Times finally got the specifics of the deployment, with
officials saying that two infantry companies and a route-clearance
platoon will be sent to Mosul, paratroopers
numbers somewhere around 300 fighters,
which will officially be labeled an “advise and assist”
operation.

And
a “temporary” deployment. Officials have labeled thousands of the
ground troops in Iraq as “temporary” to avoid putting them in the
official count of how many US troops are deployed to Iraq, even
though in this case, as in so many others, there is no specific
deadline for ending the deployment.

Officially,
there are 5,262 US troops in Iraq, and that number won’t change, no
matter how many more troops are sent. The real figure is well over
6,000 already, and not well documented, as the “temporary” troops
are excluded from any official counts.

BBC World Service meldde eergisteren, dat een oude voorlichtingsfilm van Shell is opgedoken, waarin duidelijk wordt gemaakt, dat de klimaatverandering wordt veroorzaakt door het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen. Overigens was het al bekend, dat Shell in 1989 op de hoogte was van de zich voltrekkende klimaatverandering……….*

Deze voorlichtingsfilm werd o.a. vertoond in het voortgezet onderwijs…….. De film ‘verdween’ plotseling uit de roulatie en oh wonder, Shell bonzen durfden daarna keihard te beweren, dat de klimaatverandering niets te maken had met menselijk handelen……..

De top van Shell zou strafrechtelijk vervolgd moeten worden voor moord. Immers men heeft geen bliksem gedaan om de klimaatverandering te stoppen. Deze klimaatverandering gaat gepaard met veel grotere orkanen, droogtes enz., waardoor al een enorm aantal mensen om het leven is gekomen……..

Dit nog buiten het enorme aantal verkeersdoden en verkeersslachtoffers, met daar bovenop de, alleen in Nederland al, rond de 18.000 mensen, die vroegtijdig overlijden ten gevolge van jarenlange inademing van auto-uitstoot. Let wel: vroegtijdig overlijden na een (meestal) akelig ziekbed………..

Exxon Mobile wist overigens al in 1970 dat de klimaatverandering, door het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen, een feit was**, de topschoften van dit bedrijf hebben dit altijd onder de pet gehouden……. Momenteel loopt er een rechtszaak in de VS tegen dit bedrijf, waar we vrees ik niet teveel van moeten verwachten……

Shell knew about climate change in 1991 

The
oil giant Shell issued a stark warning of the catastrophic risks of
climate change more than a quarter of century ago in a prescient 1991
film that has been rediscovered. 

However,
since then the company has invested heavily in highly polluting oil
reserves and helped lobby against climate action, leading to
accusations that Shell knew the grave risks of global warming but did
not act accordingly.

Shell’s
28-minute film, called Climate of Concern, was made for public
viewing, particularly in schools and universities. It warned of
extreme weather, floods, famines and climate refugees as fossil fuel
burning warmed the world. The serious warning was “endorsed by a
uniquely broad consensus of scientists in their report to the United
Nations at the end of 1990”, the film noted.


“If
the weather machine were to be wound up to such new levels of energy,
no country would remain unaffected,” it says. “Global warming is
not yet certain, but many think that to wait for final proof would be
irresponsible. Action now is seen as the only safe insurance.”

A
separate 1986 report, marked “confidential” and also seen by the
Guardian, notes the large uncertainties in climate science at the
time but nonetheless states: “The changes may be the greatest in
recorded history.”

The
predictions in the 1991 film for temperature and sea level rises and
their impacts were remarkably accurate, according to scientists, and
Shell was one of the first major oil companies to accept the reality
and dangers of climate change. 

But,
despite this early and clear-eyed view of the risks of global
warming, Shell invested many billions of dollars in highly polluting
tar sand operations and on exploration in the Arctic. It also cited
fracking as a “future
opportunity” in
2016, despite its
own 1998 data showing
exploitation of unconventional oil and gas was incompatible with
climate goals.

The
film was obtained by the
Correspondent,
a Dutch online journalism platform, and shared with the Guardian, and
lauds commercial-scale solar and wind power that already existed in
1991. Shell has recently lobbied successfully to undermine
European renewable energy targets and
is estimated to have spent $22m
in 2015 lobbying against climate policies.
The company’s investments in low-carbon energy have been minimal
compared to its fossil
fuel investments.

Shell
has also been a member of industry lobby groups that have fought
climate action, including the so-called Global Climate Coalition
until 1998; the far-right American
Legislative Exchange Council (Alec)
until 2015; and remains a member of the Business Roundtable and the
American Petroleum Institute today.

Another
oil giant, Exxon
Mobil,
is under investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission
and state attorney generals for allegedly misleading investors about
the risks climate change posed to its business.

The
company said they are confident they are compliant. In early 2016, a
group of congressmen
asked the Department of Justice to
also “investigate whether Shell’s actions around climate change
violated federal law”. 

“They
knew. Shell told the public the truth about climate change in 1991
and they clearly never got round to telling their own board of
directors,” said Tom Burke at the green thinktank E3G, who was a
member of Shell’s external review committee from 2012-14 and has
also advised BP and the mining giant Rio Tinto. “Shell’s
behaviour now is risky for the climate but it is also risky for their
shareholders. It is very difficult to explain why they are continuing
to explore and develop high-cost reserves.”

Bill
McKibben, a leading US environmentalist, said: “The fact that Shell
understood all this in 1991, and that a quarter-century later it was
trying to open up the Arctic to oil-drilling, tells you all you’ll
ever need to know about the corporate ethic of the fossil fuel
industry. Shell made a big difference in the world – a difference
for the worse.”

Prof
Tom Wigley, the climate scientist who was head of the Climate
Research Unit at the University of East Anglia when it helped Shell
with the 1991 film, said: “It’s one of the best little films that
I have seen on climate change ever. One could show this today and
almost all would still be relevant.” He said Shell’s actions
since 1991 had “absolutely not” been consistent with the film’s
warning.

A
Shell spokeswoman said: “Our position on climate change is well
known; recognising the climate challenge and the role energy has in
enabling a decent quality of life. Shell continues to call for
effective policy to support lower carbon business and consumer
choices and opportunities such as government lead carbon
pricing/trading schemes.

“Today,
Shell applies a $40 per tonne of CO2 internal project screening value
to project decision-making and has developed leadership positions in
natural gas and sugarcane ethanol; the lowest carbon hydrocarbon and
biofuel respectively,” she said.


Patricia
Espinosa, the UN’s climate change chief, said change by the big oil
companies was vital to tackling global warming. “They are a big
part of the global economy, so if we do not get them on board, we
will not be able to achieve this transformation of the economy we
need,” she said. 

The
investments the oil majors are making in clean energy are, Espinosa
said, “very small, the activities in which they are engaging are
still small and do not have the impact that we really need.” 

Espinosa,
who visited Shell’s headquarters in the Hague in December, said:
“They are clear that this [climate change] agenda has to do with
the future of their company and that business as usual, not doing
anything, will lead to crisis and losses in their business.”

VS luchtmacht wil leefgebied walvissen middels militaire oefening bombarderen……

Kreeg gisteren een petitie toegestuurd van Care2, waarin de oproep te tekenen tegen het voornemen van de VS luchtmacht, als oefening een leefgebied van dolfijnen en walvissen bij Hawaï te bombarderen……

Te zot voor woorden, deze dieren hebben hun gehoor al zo hoognodig in de door herrie verscheurde stilte van de oceanen, dit door scheepsmotoren, olie- en gaswinning, seismische proeven t.b.v.: de (vooral) VS marine en nogmaals de oliemaffia………

Het is zo, dat zelfs het leven van walvisachtigen afhangt van een uitstekend functionerend gehoor…….

Stop
the Air Force from Bombing Hundreds of Dolphins and Whales!

The U.S.
Air Force plans to drop 100 bombs,
as large as 300 pounds each, on the waters north of Kauai, Hawaii,
each year for the next five years. The Air Force has requested
permission to harm 637 whales and dolphins in
executing this endeavor. If this plan is approved by the National
Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA-Fisheries), it is estimated
that dozens
of marine mammals would be permanently deafened, and hundreds would
suffer from temporary hearing loss and changes in natural behavior.
Species that would be affected include the humpback whale, sei whale,
minke whale, and Fraser dolphin.

The
Air Force has proposed protecting dolphins and whales by looking for
them on the surface of the water, a ridiculous strategy given that
the waters in the area are more than 15,000 feet deep.

The negative
impact of ocean noise on whales and dolphins has
been well documented. Marine mammals depend upon sound to navigate,
find mates, hunt, and communicate over hundreds of miles. Without
the ability to hear, they are rendered unable to perform the most
basic tasks necessary to their survival. Noise
from military testing, as well as commercial shipping and oil and gas
exploration, has caused trauma, deafness, and led to the mass
beachings and deaths of dolphins and whales around the world.

As
an animal lover, I am deeply saddened that beautiful, intelligent
marine mammals around the world are suffering horrifically because of
noise pollution caused by humanity. Collateral damage to innocent
wildlife should not be considered an acceptable consequence of
military testing. Please
sign this petition urging NOAA-Fisheries to block plans by the U.S.
Air Force that would cause harm to dolphins or whales. For
marine mammals to survive and flourish, we must stop noise pollution
in our oceans. Any testing plans by the military must give meaningful
and effective protection to these magnificent beings.

ING topman stelt dat ING zich niet kan terugtrekken uit DAPL….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

ABN Amro maakte gisteren bekend, dat het zich terugtrekt uit het Dakota Acces Pipeline (DAPL) project, dat dwars door heilig gebied van de Sioux dreigt te worden aangelegd. Een goede zet, ook al verliest de bank daar geld mee.

Je zou denken, dat ook ING zich daarna terug zou trekken uit dit walgelijke project, maar nee hoor…….

Had een paar weken geleden al een kladbericht liggen over deze zaak met ING, maar helaas nog niet aan toegekomen.

Destijds zei de topman (weet niet of het dezelfde was als gistermiddag), toen bijna hetzelfde als ING grofgraaier Arnoud Cohen Stuart gistermiddag op BNR (na 16.00 u.), niet anders te kunnen, dan zich juridisch aan het contract te houden……… De woordvoerder een paar weken geleden voegde daar aan toe, dat de kosten van de boete te hoog waren, om zich terug te trekken uit DAPL

Zowaar werd flapdrol Cohen Stuart gistermiddag het vuur aan de schenen gelegd door Petra Grijzen, de presentator. Zij bleef vasthouden aan de vraag waarom ING besloot in dit project stappen. Volgens deze bedrieger had men een onafhankelijk adviseur in de arm genomen, die de zaken zou bekijken op o.a. duurzaamheid en of de aanleg eventueel problemen met bestaande bewoners zou opleveren……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Duurzaamheid en een olie pijpleiding: een contradictio in terminis…….

Als deze adviseur, die voor meerdere banken optrad, zijn/haar werk niet goed heeft gedaan, zou ik die maar eens gaan vervolgen, kan de schade voor ING nog beperkt worden ook!! Echter gezien het gestumper van deze topman tijdens het gesprek, ‘kan je bijna niet anders concluderen’, dan dat ING wel degelijk van deze zaak af wist.

Cohen Stuart durfde het niet echt hardop te zeggen, maar als je ‘m hoorde draaien, zouden de ‘indianen’ (het Sioux volk) eerst wel akkoord zijn gegaan met de aanleg van een pijpleiding, die hoe dan ook zal gaan lekken, zoals de praktijk iets te vaak heeft bewezen……….

Er is dan ook maar één reden waarom ING zich niet wil terugtrekken uit het DAPL project: een fikse boete en niet dat e.e.a juridisch niet mogelijk zou zijn…… M.a.w.: om juridisch onder dit contract uit te komen, moet je een boete betalen! Kortom, Cohen Stuart is een enorme leugenaar!!

Overigens is het wel bijzonder vreemd, dat ING en ABN Amro, ondanks dat ze pretenderen alleen nog duurzaam te investeren, zich hebben geleend voor een project, dat het tegenovergestelde is van duurzaamheid: transport van olie (en daarmee investeringen in oliewinning!)……. Smerige bedriegers!!

Vanaf de start van het onzalige DAPL project was bekend dat men geen rekening hield met het Sioux volk!! Om dat te kunnen weten, had men geen adviseur nodig maar een goede internetverbinding!!

Op Radio1 ‘interviewde’ men gistermiddag mensen op straat n.a.v. het steunen van zware misdaad in Mexico door de Rabobank, (daarover later wellicht meer) en of dat een bezwaar was voor hen. Gelukkig zeiden 2 passanten dat ze dit een kwalijke zaak vonden, maar dat overstappen naar een andere bank een heel gedoe is…….

Daar sloegen deze mensen de spijker op de smerige bankenkop: we hebben intussen wel een achterlijk lang bankrekeningnummer, zogenaamd als het burgerservicenummer voor het hele leven, behalve dan als je…… vertrekt bij je bank!! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! De banken spenderen jaarlijks miljoenen aan lobby bij de politiek, zowel in Den Haag als Brussel, als in andere landen waar banken werkzaam zijn en die lobby werkt als een trein, zoals u kon lezen!!

Waarom kunnen we wel ons telefoonnummer meenemen, maar niet ons banknummer?? Dat nummer kan voorlopig toch niet aan een ander worden toegekend. Maar de bankenmaffia stelt doodleuk dat een rekeningnummer meenemen erg ingewikkeld is….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja ingewikkeld hè, als bankrekeninghouders je straffen voor fout investeringsbeleid, door over te stappen naar een andere bank, stelletje oplichters!!

We moeten ons banknummer opeisen, kunnen we eindelijk een banken als ING en Rabobank straffen voor extreem smerige investeringen!!! (maar ook voor ‘gewoon smerige’ investeringen)

Het is ronduit een schande dat de banken zoveel te zeggen hebben, zeker nadat ze ons in een enorme crisis hebben gestort, een crisis de in feite nog steeds voortwoekert……..

Gisteren ontving ik van Food & Water Watch een petitie gericht aan banken, die de Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) financieren. Eén van  die banken is ‘onze eigen’ ING. Deze oliepijpleiding gaat dwars door het leefgebied van het Sioux volk en over en door voor hen heilig grondgebied en rivier. Gezien alle rampen met pijpleidingen, waar de reguliere media ‘vreemd genoeg’ amper aandacht voor hebben, is het te belachelijk voor woorden, dat die pijpleiding juist daar aangelegd moet worden…….

Let wel: een dergelijk project wordt nooit gelegd in de buurt van ‘rijke steden’, of gebieden waar veel welgestelden wonen en als men dit toch probeert, is het plan binnen de kortste keren afgevoerd, waarna een alternatieve route wordt gekozen…….. Er staat nu een ban op deze Dakota Access Pipeline, dit door ingrijpen van de U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), maar Trump zal na zijn aantreden deze ban vrijwel onmiddellijk opheffen……..

militarized police actions against peaceful and unarmed water
protectors have been widely and publicly condemned, and may result in
a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into police misconduct and
civil rights abuses. 

Continuing
to finance DAPL signals your approval of the use of militarized force
against those asserting their First Amendment rights and traditional
spiritual beliefs and practices, and disregard for Indigenous
responsibilities to protect people, lands and water. 

We
demand that you discontinue DAPL loan disbursements until outstanding
issues with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Seven Council Fires
of the Great Sioux Nation – Oceti Sakowin are resolved, and Equator
Principle 5, which requires Free, Prior and Informed Consent from
Indigenous peoples, is upheld.

Urge
the banks funding the Dakota Access pipeline to pull their money out
of this terrible investment!

For
months the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Oceti Sakowin headmen and
elders, other Indigenous peoples and other water protectors and
allies have been under siege while peacefully and prayerfully
resisting the DAPL.

The
pipeline was approved without environmental reviews, adequate
assessment of cultural properties and sacred sites, or the Free,
Prior and Informed Consent of the Standing Rock Sioux affirmed in the
UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

In
addition to violating sovereign Indigenous rights and
responsibilities, continued pipeline construction and any spills pose
significant and direct threats to sacred sites and water supplies for
the Standing Rock Sioux, who live less than a mile downstream, and
threaten direct harm to the Missouri River, which provides drinking
water to millions of people.1

The
companies responsible for the pipeline are Energy Transfer Partners
(ETP) and Sunoco Logistics, who have a deplorable track record of
pipeline spills and total disregard for Tribal rights, land and
water.2

On
December 4, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers denied the easement
needed to finish drilling under the Missouri River, saying it was
necessary to produce an Environmental Impact Statement and analyze
alternatives.3 Yet ETP insists that the companies “fully expect
to complete construction of the pipeline without any additional
rerouting.”4

This
could lead to banks financing an illegal activity. ETP and Sunoco are
rushing to build a pipeline that is economically unnecessary today,
and will become a stranded asset as the world moves away from
climate-destroying fuels.

If
DAPL does not deliver oil by January 1, shipper contracts will expire
and the project will be in jeopardy.5 The Morton County
Sheriff’s Department has violently repressed the water protectors in
service of the corporate desperation to meet this timeline. Given
further project delays as a result of the December 4 decision, that
January deadline won’t be met.

The
17 banks financing the DAPL project have not yet disbursed all the
loan funds they’ve committed. These banks now face a clear
opportunity to reconsider further funding a project steeped in
controversy and demonstrating material loss.

Public
pressure is forcing DAPL’s lenders to confront the reality that
they are backing companies who are openly defying the rule of law,
undermining the regulatory process and authority of the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers and setting a dangerous precedent. Now these
lenders must take a stand.

It
is time for these banks to cut their losses and for us to turn up the
heat.

21-year-old woman was severely injured and may lose her arm after
being hit by a projectile when North Dakota law enforcement officers
turned a water cannon on Dakota
Access pipeline protesters
and threw “less-than-lethal” weapons, according to the woman’s
father.

Sophia
Wilansky was one of several hundred protesters injured during the
standoff with police on Sunday on a bridge near the site where the
pipeline is planned to cross under the Missouri river.

Graphic
photographs of her injured arm with broken bones visible were
circulated on social media.

“The
best-case scenario is no pain and 10-20% functionality,” said Wayne
Wilansky, Sophia’s father, who travelled to Minneapolis where his
daughter underwent eight hours of surgery on Monday. He said his
daughter had been hit by a concussion grenade thrown by a police
officer and that the arteries, median nerve, muscle and bone in her
left arm had been “blown away”. 

Sophia
will require additional surgery in the next few days and her arm may
still have to be amputated, he added. “She’s devastated. She
looks at her arm and she cries,” he said.

Sophia
Wilansky is one of thousands of activists who have travelled to the
Standing Rock Sioux reservation in North
Dakota to
attempt to halt the construction of the pipeline. Members of the

Standing
Rock Sioux tribe established a “spiritual camp” on the banks of
the Missouri in April. The tribe fears the pipeline will jeopardise
their water supply and say that construction has disturbed sacred
burial grounds.

Police
blast Standing Rock protesters with water cannon and rubber bullets

The
activists, who call themselves “water protectors”, have faced a
heavily militarised police force. More than 400
protesters have been arrested by
law enforcement officers who have deployed pepper spray, teargas,
rubber bullets, Tasers, sound weapons and other “less-than-lethal”
methods.

Following
Sunday’s confrontation 26
protesters were taken to hospital and
more than 300 injured, according to the Standing Rock Medic &
Healer Council. Most of the injured had hypothermia after being hit
by a water cannon in below-freezing weather.

The
Morton County sheriff’s department did not immediately respond to
inquiries from the Guardian. In an interview with the Los
Angeles Times,
a spokeswoman for the department denied the agency had deployed
concussion grenades and suggested the injury may have occurred while
protesters were “rigging up their own explosives”.

The
Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council refuted law enforcement’s
claims in a statement, citing eye-witness accounts of seeing police
throw concussion grenades, “the lack of charring of flesh at the
wound site” and “grenade pieces that have been removed from her
arm in surgery and will be saved for legal proceedings”.

The
incident on Sunday began when about 100 activists attempted to remove
two burned trucks from the bridge just north of the main encampment.
The bridge has been barricaded for several weeks, blocking the most
direct route to Bismarck, North Dakota, and raising safety concerns
among residents of the camp and the reservation.

The
barricade may have exacerbated Wilansky’s injury, her father said,
by delaying her arrival at a hospital in Bismarck. She was
subsequently airlifted to another hospital in Minneapolis.

Wilansky
has received a massive outpouring of support online. A crowdfunding
campaign established
to help pay her medical bills raised more than $120,000 (£96,000)
from more than 4,000 donors in the first seven hours. 

Friends
of Wilansky are planning a prayer vigil in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

  • This
    article was amended on 21 November 2016 to clarify that Sophia
    Wilansky’s father told the Guardian that she was injured by a
    projectile, which North Dakota law enforcement denies.
