Caitlin
I
really don’t mean to be a pest about this but we are still trapped on
a planet where people without functioning empathy centers are waving
literal armageddon weapons around in the name of a made-up concept
called unipolarism. We should probably put a stop to that.

If
you see two separate mainstream political parties, it looks like one
is the lesser evil. If you see two oligarchic sock puppets held by
the same oligarchy, it looks like they’re both being used to bully
you into consenting to an entire system which isn’t designed to serve
you.
If
you see the latter, what is the correct response? What is the correct
response to someone saying you must beg them to punch you with their
left hand or they’ll punch you a bit harder with their right? Is it
to beg for the left fist? Or is it to knock your abuser the fuck out?
When
the oligarchy tells you “Vote for my left party or my right
party will take away your civil rights”, the correct response is
not bowing to its demands, nor voting right-wing out of spite, nor
even merely voting third party. The only correct response is to tear
down the oligarchy.

Children
arrive in this world unthinking and empty-headed, like idiots. We
have to teach them how to be smart and knowledgeable thinkers like
us.
A
small child can run around and play happily with a stick or a leaf,
because children are stupid and they don’t yet know how to stare at
their phones tensely waiting for a stranger on social media to
respond to your clever comment telling them why their opinion is
wrong.
Children
are too naive to know anything about opinions and ideas. They need us
to teach them how to move their interest and attention away from the
things that are happening around them and focus instead upon the
thoughts in their heads, until the outer world loses its color and
they can live without distraction in the inner world of mental noise.
Grown-ups
are much better and smarter than children, because we know all the
different words for things, and we also know the opposites of those
words, and we also know how to make the words and their opposites
fight with each other in our heads while we push salty starchfat into
our mouths and watch talk shows.
Children
don’t even know anything about politics. They are too small and
simplistic to understand that we live in a country that is run by a
Good Party and a Bad Party, and the Bad Party does bad things and the
Good Party also does bad things but only because the Bad Party made
them do it.
We
have to teach children about the Good Party and the Bad Party, and
teach them how to hate the Bad Party because they don’t yet know that
there are different kinds of people and that you’re supposed to hate
some of them. Children don’t even know how to hate until we teach
them, that’s how stupid they are.
When
you try to teach children about war they always cry like little
bitches. Like pansies. They act like sending large groups of people
in our country to go kill other groups of people in another country
is crazy and disordered, when obviously it is they who are crazy and
disordered. We need to teach children how to be sane and normal by
any means necessary, including hitting them.
One
time my child wanted some food and I told him we don’t have enough
money for food, and he said we should just go to the “money
making machine” and get some money. He was talking about an ATM,
the imbecile. I laughed in his face. I laughed and laughed and
laughed because he didn’t understand how money works. I tried to
teach him how people don’t get to eat unless they have the right kind
of numbers in their bank accounts, but he kept looking at me like I
was saying something strange. Then we just laid around thinking about
how hungry we were until we fell asleep.
It’s
hard work being a parent. You get this weird little baby critter who
doesn’t know how to do anything, and then you have to spend years of
your life teaching them how to think, how to want, how to hate, how
to fight, how to take, and how to stop sitting around all blissed out
like a dumbass stoner all the time. You have to teach them and
shape them so that they can take part in this wonderful society that
we grown-ups built for them, and they don’t even understand what a
gift you’re giving them, they just cry about it like ungrateful
little jerks.
In
the end though it’s just what you’ve got to do in order to mold
children into smart and sensible grown-ups, like us.

in Georgia is verlopen.
This is how Trump wins
Voter
Suppression Alert <info@demandprogress.org>
Georgia’s primary election
on Tuesday was an absolute disaster.
Four-hour-long lines.
Malfunctioning voting machines. Tens of thousands of absentee ballots
“lost” in the mail.1,2 It was so bad that there have
been calls for United Nations elections monitors to step in.3
And as usual, these
problems were worse in majority Black precincts.4
Georgia’s voting disaster is being
called a “giant warning siren” for what could happen in
November.5 If Congress doesn’t act now, millions of voters
could be disenfranchised or forced to choose between their health and
their civic duty.
Once
the coronavirus pandemic began, Georgia’s election officials asked
voters repeatedly to request absentee ballots in order to alleviate
pressure on understaffed polling places. The
voters complied with
more than 1.5 million requests for mail-in ballots.6
But the state didn’t hold up its
end of the bargain. More than 60,000 people hadn’t received their
ballots by the last days before the day of the primary, and those who
did were told to return the ballots in envelopes that didn’t exist,
along with other confusing instructions.7,8
On the day of the election, the
state implemented new voting machines in some districts—machines
that experts said were not ready to be deployed—which immediately
malfunctioned.9Polling places in the
Atlanta metro area—a section of Georgia that is predominantly
people of color—were understaffed and unprepared for the people
needing to vote in person, while polling places in whiter, richer
areas had fewer problems.10
Social media was flooded with pictures of hours-long lines in the
Atlanta area, while other places had no lines at all.11
As former gubernatorial candidate
Stacey Abrams said, “It is a disaster that was very preventable,
emblematic of the deeply systemic issues” Georgia has.12
But it’s clear that Georgia’s leadership has no interest in
preventing these failures.
It’s not just Georgia whose
election suffered during the primary. In Pennsylvania, thousands of
voters were sent the wrong ballot. Maryland had outdated registration
lists. Washington, DC, wasn’t able to fulfill many absentee ballot
requests and had fewer than 15% of its polling places open due to the
coronavirus.13
Experts are predicting a second
wave of the coronavirus in the fall, right around the general
election.14 If we want every state to have the mandate and
the resources for a successful vote-by-mail program and give everyone
a chance to have their voices heard in November, Congress must pass a
nationwide vote-by-mail law with the next coronavirus bill. More than
100,000 Demand Progress members have emailed Congress asking for a
vote-by-mail law, and now we’re going to step up our campaign.

Terug
A
black man named Rayshard Brooks was recently killed by an Atlanta
police officer who shot
him in the back
while he was attempting to run away.
Video
footage from the
police bodycam
and a
nearby witness makes
it clear that Brooks resisted arrest after failing a breathalyzer
test when police approached him sleeping in his car at a Wendy’s
parking lot, punching an officer and taking a taser the police had
attempted to use on him before trying to flee the scene. Video
footage from the parking lot makes
it clear that Brooks was running away, and, without ceasing to run,
pointed the taser at police behind him, at which point he was shot
twice in the back by an officer named
Garrett Rolfe.
New video released by the GBI shows the moment #Atlanta police shot and killed #RayshardBrooks in the parking lot of a Wendy’s. Police say Rayshard Brooks grabbed a taser and pointed it at police before an officer fired shots.
There
is no rational defense of this shooting. If someone is running away
from you with a short-range weapon, it is literally impossible for
them to pose an imminent threat to you. Just allowing Brooks to run
out of the range of the taser, as he was already trying to do, would
have nullified any potential threat to either of the two officers on
the scene, because it would have been literally impossible for Brooks
to tase them while continuing to run in the direction he was running.
This
indisputable and self-evident fact hasn’t stopped people from
bleating moronic police apologia in my social media notifications
since the shooting occurred.
They
claim Brooks could have tased an officer and taken his gun (again,
let Brooks take himself out of taser range and there’s exactly zero
risk of this happening).
They
claim they couldn’t just let a “dangerous” criminal run
around with a police weapon (it’s a taser; you can buy them at
Walmart. What’s he going to do? Go on a mass tasing rampage?).
They
claim the cop had to execute Brooks because he posed a “danger
to society” (it is not a cop’s job to act as judge, jury and
executioner in determining whether someone poses a general threat to
society; that’s what the courts are for).
They
claim if you punch a cop you deserve whatever you get (believing,
because they are authority-worshipping bootlickers, that a cop being
punched is worse than a civilian being killed by gunfire).
They
claim if you don’t follow police instructions then of course you’re
at risk of being killed (yes, police doing inexcusably brutal things
is the problem that people are trying to address here).
Even
leaving aside any debate about policing as it exists in America
today, there was absolutely no excuse for Rolfe’s behavior. They had
all of Brooks’ information. They had his car. They knew where he
lives. They could have followed him in their car and called for
backup. They could have gone in with backup to arrest him later.
But
Rolfe decided to kill. After watching all these protests against
police brutality raging throughout his country since the murder of
George Floyd, after being confronted with with all the public outrage
about police killing black men day after day in news headline after
news headline, after his society forced him to contemplate police
violence and his role in it, Garrett Rolfe still decided to kill.
After all that, he watched a black man running away from him, posing
no threat to him whatsoever, and he decided to kill.
The
fact that cops are so thoroughly inoculated against public demand
that they change their behavior makes a complete farce of the decoy
police “reform” agenda that establishment narrative
managers have been actively trying to corral the current protest
movement into to kill their support for police abolishment.
Let me pick up on what @staceyabrams just said. #DefundThePolice slogan is being used to divide us. She called for transformation of police, that’s much stronger than just reform but not distracting like defunding. #TransformThePolice is appealing to most people & sounds strong.
There’s
a feud going on in America’s new protest movement right now between
those who wish to abolish, defund, dismantle, and/or disarm the
police, and those who want to “reform” or “transform”
the police. The former are actually pushing for a revolutionary
change which actually pushes back against abusive power structures
and calls for the creation of a radically different social paradigm,
while the latter wants to keep policing institutions in their irredeemably
corrupt state and
add more funding for “de-escalation” training seminars
where grown adults are told not to commit gratuitous acts of
violence.
Training
seminars which, it turns out, Officer Garrett Rolfe had just
completed.
“According
to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, Rolfe
had recently received use of force training,” reports
Atlanta news outlet AJC. “On April 24, he took a nine-hour
course on de-escalation options, his record shows. And on Jan. 9,
Rolfe was trained on the use of deadly force at the DeKalb County
police academy.”
And
yet you’ve got fauxgressive establishment narrative managers like
Cenk Uygur promoting
the reform agenda and
calling calls to defund the police “distracting”.
I wrote
the other day
that “if these protests end it won’t be because tyrants in the
Republican Party like Donald Trump and Tom Cotton succeeded in making
the case for beating them into silence with the US military. It will
be because liberal manipulators succeeded in co-opting and stagnating
its momentum.” This is exactly the sort of thing I was talking
about.
.@NYGovCuomo
suggests protesters pack it up, in light of new reforms: “People are
still out protesting. You don’t need to protest. You won. You won. You
accomplished your goal. Society says, you’re right. The police need
systemic reform.”
People
who claim these protests are the result of some kind of psyop often
cite the fact that they’re being supported by establishment liberals,
mainstream media, and giant corporations, but this misses a very
important distinction in the dynamic that is at play here. While it
is true that these institutions have been expressing general support
for the demonstrations and the idea that black lives matter, what
absolutely none of them have been doing is supporting the defunding
or abolishment of America’s police force. None of the empire’s
ruling elites support this.
The
reason you are seeing manipulation and attempts at co-option in this
new movement is because that is exactly what’s happening. But it
isn’t what’s driving
the enthusiasm behind the demonstrations. Rather, you are seeing an
attempted hijacking of an actual revolutionary agenda that actually
challenges actual power institutions (including increasingly common
attempts to manipulate the narrative by claiming demands to defund
and abolish are actually just calls for reform).
The
widespread call to abolish America’s police state, an integral
part of the glue
which holds the US-centralized empire together, is revolutionary. It
is not an exaggeration to say it’s as interesting and exciting as
seeing a mainstream call to end US imperialism, and it is just as
threatening to establishment power structures. The call for “reform”,
in contrast, is just more milquetoast, Obamaesque fauxgressive
verbiage designed to stagnate a real revolutionary change movement.
It is as interesting and as threatening to establishment power
structures as saying the US should push regime change in
Syria rather than Iran.
Police
abolishment advocates are pushing for something which would require
the complete reconfiguration of power in society to accomplish, where
the prison industrial complex and the war on drugs are ended and what
we think of as policing can for example be mostly replaced by
something more akin to social work. Police “reform”
proponents are advancing a decoy agenda which people have
been distracted by for generations while
the police force has become increasingly militarized behind a veil of
meaningless verbiage about community outreach and training programs.
It’s not just that Biden doesn’t want to defund the police, per his spox, its that he believes cops just don’t have enough resources for reform. Would be laughable if it wasn’t so dire. https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1270041926373462016 …
The Hill ✔ @thehill
JUST IN: Biden campaign opposes calls to “defund the police” http://hill.cm/GwVh39n
This
is where the real revolutionary energy is at in America right now, so
it’s no wonder establishment manipulators are doing everything they
can to co-opt it into something innocuous which won’t disturb actual
power structures in the slightest. Obama made a whole political
career out of telling leftwardly inclined Americans that they’re
getting what they want without actually giving it to them, and now
we’ve got Democratic Party princeling Andrew Cuomo telling New York
protesters “You don’t need to protest. You won. You won.
You
accomplished your goal. Society says, you’re right. The police need
systemic reform.”
It’s
textbook liberal manipulation used to steer the revolutionary
zeitgeist into an impotent conceptual tar pit for another few years
while the prison bars are reinforced.
As
I explained a while back in my article “How
To Tell Real News From Useless Narrative Fluff“,
you can tell what’s really going on by watching where the money is
going, where the weapons are going, where the resources are going and
where the people are going. You can see in these demands for
dismantling the police state a bunch of people moving around
demanding to drastically change all four of these things, and you can
see from the liberal narrative managers an agenda to prevent any of
those four things from actually changing.
And if they win out, you
will be able to watch the people, police, weapons and resources
continue moving in more or less the exact same way they’ve been
moving.
They’re
trying to replace a real revolutionary impulse with useless narrative
fluff. They have learned that it is much easier to neuter such
impulses with empty agreement and a bunch of insubstantial words than
to tell them no and stomp them down. Hopefully, the people have
learned this too.
opgaat…..)
These
are important revelations that are worthy of mainstream attention,
but like basically everything else in this stupid, stupid timeline
this issue has instead been reduced to the stagnation of vapid
partisan squabbling. Democrats and their allied media are finger
wagging at Trump for using “conspiracy theories” to
distract from his coronavirus failures, and “MAGA”****
pundits once again beating the tired old drum that this scandal
is going to bring down major Deep State players and drain the swamp
once and for all.
Ever
since 2016 both of America’s mainstream political parties have been
taking turns screaming at the top of their lungs that
earth-shattering revelations are right around the corner which are
about to obliterate the other party any minute now, and if you’re
still buying into this show I highly recommend you also take up
watching WWE*****, because you’ll definitely love it.

didn’t have the goods on Russia. Now the public knows too. Twin Pillars
of Russiagate Crumble By Ray McGovern Special to… consortiumnews.com
“By
any normal standard, former FBI Director Comey would now be in
serious legal trouble, as should [former Director of National
Intelligence James] Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, et
al,” Ray McGovern wrote
for Consortium
News
the other day. “Additional evidence of FBI misconduct under
Comey seems to surface every week — whether the abuses of FISA,
misconduct in the case against Gen. Michael Flynn, or misleading
everyone about Russian hacking of the DNC. If I were attorney
general, I would declare Comey a flight risk and take his passport.
And I would do the same with Clapper and Brennan.”
Indeed,
this would be the “normal standard”, yet it hasn’t
happened. Neither Comey nor Clapper nor Brennan are in any legal
trouble at all, nor will they be, nor will any other major player
responsible for leading America on a crazy collusion wild goose chase
which accomplished nothing but distracting
from real issues
and manufacturing consent for mountains
of cold war escalations
against Russia.
You
will never see Obama or his administration officials brought down by
“Obamagate” for the same reason Trump wasn’t brought down
by the Mueller investigation: the
swamp protects its own.
Both Obama and Trump administrations are packed full of crooks and
mass murderers who could and should be imprisoned for any number of
offenses, but they won’t be, because that would require a
prosecutorial body that is separate from the swamp of corruption with
which both of America’s mainstream parties are inexorably interwoven.
You cannot use the swamp to drain the swamp.
Do
you know why Trump never made good on his campaign platform of
locking up Hillary Clinton? Besides the fact that their entire
conflict has always been fake, I mean? The Trump administration could
easily have found grounds upon which to prosecute Clinton if they
wanted to, but going after a loyal establishment swamp monster would
have brought the wrath of the entire swamp down upon him. As soon as
he had a political opponent in office, if not before, Trump would
himself be facing criminal prosecution. By collaborating with the
swamp you ensure your own protection, and by attacking it you ensure
your destruction.

A fundamental point that many Russiagate-peddling left pundits — including fake “adversarial” voices like @mehdirhasan — cannot process in their minds, because doing so would threaten their club membership. Russiagate was obviously the way for the DNC to cosmetically attack Trump without pushing back against Trump policies. Russiagate sidelined pushbacks against the Trump tax cut, and a litany of other substantive issues… issues that DNC elites actually agreed with Trump about…
668
That’s
why no serious attempt has ever been made to remove Trump from
office; he’s been
playing nice with existing power structures
without challenging them in any meaningful way. Everyone who knew
anything was aware that the Mueller collusion would never go
anywhere, and anyone who could count Senate seats knew impeachment
would fizzle. It was all kayfabe conflict so that Trump’s
“opposition” could present the appearance of opposition
without interfering in agendas they themselves support or prosecuting
crimes of which they themselves are also guilty.
It’s
also why Obama never
had any intention
of prosecuting Bush’s heinous war crimes, citing “a belief
that we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards”.
In reality Obama always understood that in order to play the
“president” role (and enjoy its massive
perks
for the rest of his life), he’d need to collaborate with
establishment power structures rather than upsetting them. He knew
that if he were to go after Bush he’d ensure his own destruction;
under “normal standards” prosecution is the only sane and
normal response to war crimes, but in the Mutually Assured
Destruction (MAD) environment of establishment corruption, there are no
normal standards.
I
point this out because it’s painful to watch people on both sides
continually getting their hopes up that the big KABOOM is right
around the corner which will finally vindicate their worldview and
punish their partisan rivals. It will not happen. Trump will not
drain the swamp, and neither will Biden or whatever soulless swamp
monster inhabits the White House next. You were lied to. It’s good to
be aware of surveillance abuses, mass-scale psyops and media
malpractice, but definitely abandon hope that any of this will lead
to any major changes in the establishment itself.
If
we want real change, it cannot and will not come from either of the
two mainstream political factions whose primary job is preventing
real change. It’s going to have to come from the people; we’re going
to have to find a way to punch through the propaganda brainwashing,
wake up to reality, and use the power of our numbers to force the
changes which will benefit us past all the oligarchic safeguards that
have been placed in front of us to prevent us from doing so.
This
is a lot less pleasant than believing some magical hero in a white
hat is going to ride in and do all our work for us and all we need to
do is relax and “trust the plan”. It’s a lot less
comfortable than expunging the fake two-party worldview from our
minds which vast fortunes and years of conditioning have gone into
manufacturing. But it is reality.

Me
dunkt: de vraag stellen is haar beantwoorden!!!
Zoal je
begrijpt, wij kunnen deze petitie niet tekenen.
Sign the petition: Stop Jared Kushner from hoarding coronavirus supplies
Robert
Cruickshank, Demandprogress.org <info@demandprogress.org>
Where are all the masks, test kits,
and other crucial supplies desperately needed to safely end the
lockdowns and end the coronavirus pandemic?
It looks like Jared
Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, has a lot of them.
He’s secretly working with big corporations to hoard millions of
gloves, masks, swabs, and more.1
We don’t know where they’re all going, even as governors have to have
the National Guard protect their own shipments so the feds don’t
seize them.2
This is totally unacceptable. It
could even be criminal. But we don’t know the details. It’s time for
Congress to act.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner
runs Project Airbridge, which is a the heart of the issue. According
to Bloomberg News, Project Airbridge has imported at least 746
million pairs of gloves, 71 million surgical masks, 10 million
surgical gowns, 2 million thermometers, 768,000 N95 masks and 562,000
face shields.1
But those supplies don’t
appear to be making it to where they’re needed — especially to
states run by Democrats. Governors
from Illinois and Washington State have pointed out the White House
has failed to deliver the promised supplies. They have no way to know
what Kushner is doing with this enormous hoard. Neither do we.
The necessary coronavirus lockdowns
can only end when states have enough supplies to protect the public
and test and trace their populations to stop a renewed spread of the
infection. Most states don’t have those supplies yet.
Jared Kushner has a lot of
these supplies, but we don’t know what he’s doing with it.
We don’t know if he and his family are personally profiting from
this. We don’t know whether big corporations that are involved are
making big profits either.
This is a totally unacceptable
situation, especially amidst a national crisis. It’s time for
Congress to step in.

Caitlin
Hoe
Obama….)
George
W Bush is in
the news again
today, and once again it’s not for the only legitimate reason that he
should ever be in the news, namely a war crimes tribunal. No, it’s
because his voice was used in a cutesy feel-good video about unity
during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Let
us remember how small our differences are in the face of this shared
threat,” Bush is heard saying. “We are not partisan
combatants. We are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally
wonderful in the sight of God.”
And,
needless to say, Democrats are all over social media orgasming in
their pants about it.
“This
video made me ugly cry,” tweeted
actress-turned-McResistance pundit Alyssa Milano.
“A
REAL president,” tweeted
the other Alyssa Milano, Debra Messing.
“In
a million years I never thought I’d be crying watching this,
thinking how much better we’d all feel if Bush were president
today,” tweeted
former Democratic congresswoman Katie Hill to thunderous online
applause.
The
Intercept‘s
Mehdi Hasan spent
all day on Twitter
defending his position that Dubya is superior to Trump, at one point
even arguing
“You can be a sane warmonger. You can be a warmonger but be an
ok human being to your friends and family. You can be a warmonger and
be able to handle a domestic public health crisis.”
For
years rank-and-file Democrats have been giving the true Butcher of
Baghdad a
majority approval rating,
running with the
common narrative
that while Bush perhaps made some “mistakes”, Trump is
spectacularly worse. Here are five things that are highlighted by
that common perspective:
1. It
shows how little Democrats care about the lives of human beings
overseas.
By
the end of his first term Bush had launched two full-scale ground
invasions, murdered a million Iraqis, destabilized an entire region
in a way that would shortly give rise to ISIS, and ushered in a whole
new level of unprecedented US military expansionism and imperialism.
Trump has done none of these things. He has inflicted
many evils upon our world
and, like
Obama,
has continued
and expanded the warmongering
of his predecessors. But he has done nothing that rises to the level
of depravity of Bush’s wars.
The
fact that Democrats see Trump’s evils as not only equal to but far in
excess of Bush’s reveals as plain as day that, for all their supposed
bleeding heart liberal sensibilities, they simply do not place much
value on the lives of foreigners. Sure they might enjoy a little
masturbatory melodrama over kids in cages when it shows up on their
doorstep, but kids getting ripped to shreds by cluster bombs and
being born severely disabled from depleted uranium munitions simply
does not register for them, because they don’t have to look at it.
They
do not care. Rude tweets and racism are worse than institutionalized
mass murder for them, because they have to look at one but not the
other.
2. It
shows that Trump-era Democrats are Bush-era Republicans.
The
problem is that Bush and Cheney’s operatives, speechwriters, policy
advisers, propagandistas and top aides are the close friends and
colleagues of media liberals and DC Democrats and their beloved pundits,
so they have to whitewash Bush’s evil to justify themselves: https://twitter.com/jeremyscahill/status/1256951318096347137 …
“Dems
have no choice but to rehabilitate George Bush because their core
narrative is the US was a fundamentally good and decent land before
Trump vandalized it,” journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted
in response to Democrats’ fawning over Bush, adding, “How do you
join with Bill Kristol, Nicole Wallace, Rick Wilson, David Frum and
the CIA without whitewashing Bush’s crimes?”
Indeed,
Bush-era neocons have been able to fully ingratiate themselves to and
integrate themselves with Democrats in the age of Trump by posing as
moral opposition longing for a more civilized time when presidents
would politely butcher humans by the hundreds of thousands without
using offensive language like “shit hole”. A gentlemanly
time for gentlemanly presidents to unfold gentlemanly Orwellian
surveillance measures all around the world without posting rude
tweets about celebrities they don’t like.
Trump-era
Democrats are Bush-era Republicans. That’s how far to the
authoritarian right the party has moved in the last few years on
important matters like foreign policy. You can see this by the
shrieking, hysterical response they had to Tulsi Gabbard calling for
what more or less amounted to a simple reversion back to pre-9/11 US
foreign policy. It has been necessary for Democrats to gaslight
themselves into this position because for three presidential
campaigns in a row–Obama 2012, Clinton 2016, and now Biden
2020–they’ve had to find ways of convincing themselves that a
politician who has facilitated Bush’s foreign policy agendas would
make a good commander-in-chief.
3. It
shows how the amnesia-inducing effects of the mass media news churn
make it difficult to retain perspective.
Mass
media propagandists are able to distort perception even while telling
the truth using the
news churn memory hole.
Even when forced to report on uncomfortable truths like not finding
any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or the fact that the
occupation of Afghanistan has been justified by an entire generation
of lies, the memory of that reporting can be made to fade into the
background by frantically reporting on what’s happening right now
without referring back to the previous revelations.
Russiagate
alone did so much to distort people’s perceptions in mainstream
liberal circles.
Having
the baseless narrative breathlessly promoted year after year after
year that the Kremlin had literally seized control of the highest
levels of the US government left rank-and-file Democrats who
subscribed to it without any sense of scale or proportion, because
they were constantly being told that the Most Important Thing Ever
was about to happen.
How
can you hold perspective on a million dead Iraqis when you’re being
told day after day, year after year in myriad ways that Russian
Hitler was controlling your country but Super Mueller is going to
swoop in to the rescue any minute now? It would be very difficult.
4. It
shows the glaring difference between fact and narrative.
Most
of the mass media reporting on Trump has been factual, it’s just had
a ton of narrative spin attached to the facts. It is a fact that
Trump frequently says and does dumb, obnoxious and horrible things.
It is a fact that many racists think he’s the cat’s pajamas. It is a
fact that there was an impeachment and a collusion investigation. But
the narrative overlay that has been heaped upon those facts while
they’re being reported–the urgency, the alarmism, the
hyperbole–leaves viewers with the distinct impression that this US
president is awful in a way that is unique and historically
unprecedented, and he simply isn’t.
Trump
is not worse than Bush, the mass media just yell about him a lot
more. If the narratives matched the facts, mass media consumers would
be aware that nothing Trump has done is as evil as Bush’s invasion of
Iraq alone. In reality Trump didn’t wind up being another Hitler, he
wound up being another Obama (not a compliment). And if the narrative
spin matched the factual reality, people would understand that.
liberals have the baffling ability to simultaneously believe both that George W. Bush was a good president whom they love and miss dearly AND that Ralph Nader is a piece of shit who’s going to burn in hell for supposedly getting George W. Bush elected
Imagine
you’re out in the woods with a friend you trust in the dark. You know
there’s a horrible monster out there stalking you, and suddenly you
hear it in the distance coming crashing towards you. It has picked up
your scent and it will be upon you in moments.
You
turn to run, but your friend grabs you and won’t let you move. He
falls to the ground grabbing your legs screaming “No! No! We
must stay here! We mustn’t move an inch!”
Who
do you need to fight first? The monster? Or your “friend”?
That’s
why I focus so much of my criticism on the Democratic Party instead
of the Republicans. Ultimately they’re the party which could actually
allow for positive changes to be made to the world, but instead they
keep moving further and further into the warmongering totalitarianism
they once purported to despise in George W Bush.
Relying
on either head of the two-headed one-party system to make meaningful
changes simply is not working, and will not ever work. No institution
that would so warmly rehabilitate and welcome a bloodthirsty monster
like Bush is going to help humanity one iota. In fact, its sole
purpose is to do the exact opposite.
Missouri
Lawmaker Beheads Chicken … to Make a Point About Abortion
Debate
continues to rage between pro-life and pro-choice activists about
when life begins and must be protected. One topic that hasn’t
been considered? The similarities between abortion and chicken
slaughter. Well, now, thanks to one Missouri legislator, that is up
for discussion.
In
what was no doubt the most bizarre moment of last week, anti-abortion
GOP state legislator Mike Moon prepared for the new “nothing but
abortion” special session of the Missouri legislature by killing a
chicken — and posting the video on Youtube.
“When
the governor called for the second special session this year, I was
right in the middle of my summer job. But like any good career
politician, when I get the call (breaks
to behead chicken),
I’m going back to work,” Rep. Moon said on his video, according
to the Missouri
Times. ”God
gave us man dominion over life. He allows us to raise animals
properly and care for them and then process them for food so we can
sustain life. And that’s what I’m doing here with this chicken.
So we’ve been called back to this special session for the primary
purpose of supporting life, protecting the unborn specifically. I
think we need to get to the heart of the matter here (pulls
out chicken’s heart).
So today, I’m filing a bill that will lead to the stopping of
abortion in the state of Missouri and I hope you’ll support it.”
Moon
later told reporters that he wasn’t really trying to compare
butchering a chicken to abortion, despite the video’s message.
“In
an interview with the News-Leader, Moon said he doesn’t understand
how people could infer that he was making a comparison between
terminating a fetus and butchering a bird,” reports Will Schmidt of
the Springfield
News-Leader. ”Moon
acknowledged that he was trying to convey a message about abortion:
in his mind, his fellow Republicans have not been willing to take a
‘hard vote’ on banning abortion. When Moon grabbed the chicken’s
heart — while talking about ‘getting to the heart of the matter’
— that was his way of saying that regulating abortions to make
sure they occur in clean facilities is not enough. He wants abortion
to stop in Missouri and filed a bill to try and make that happen.”
Moon’s
example may have been horrifying and completely unnecessary, but he
is far from the only politician to compare abortion and animal
welfare — often to the detriment of the pregnant people wanting a
termination.
Previously,
an Alabama
legislator complained
that people could be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for
destroying a bald eagle egg, yet women can’t be thrown in jail for
terminating their pregnancies.
Abortion
opponents in Massachusetts have complained that vet offices
require a license
to operate,
while abortion clinics do not, stating, “Don’t you want to treat
a woman who was in a crisis better than a dog or cat?”
And
the Illinois
legislature used
to be a big fan of sending abortion restriction bills through the
farming and agriculture committee, essentially equating those
who could get pregnant to livestock.
While
Moon may have been the most explicit of them all when he said
directly stated, ”God gave man dominion over life,” he is
only saying what so many far-right social conservative lawmakers
believe: it is a man’s job to make decisions about “life.”
So
thank you to Moon for teaching us a real — albeit extremely graphic
— lesson about what is really at the “heart” of the
anti-abortion movement: man’s complete and utter control, be it
over livestock or women.
