Is Putin corrupt? De waarheid over ‘handel en wandel’ van de Russische president (en een nieuwe gifgasaanval in Syrië…..)

Over Putin worden de meest vreemde dingen verteld, zo zou hij o.a. corrupt zijn en zich zo verrijken middels zijn functie als president van Rusland.

Niet dat men met bewijzen komt waarmee e.e.a. wordt aangetoond, maar dat maakt niet uit, immers Putin is de kwaaie pier en barbertje moet hangen, daarvoor houdt men met grote graagte leugens in de lucht, of die leugens nu van de media, politiek of de geheime diensten komen (leugens die men uiteraard van elkaar overneemt en steunt door deze te herhalen…)….

Voorlopig heeft Putin voorkomen dat in Syrie de boel niet veel verder escaleerde, neem de belachelijke beschieting van het vliegveld van Homs, na de zoveelste vermeende gifgasaanval van het Syrische leger, die ook in dit geval niet bleek te kloppen…… Vandaag wordt het Syrische leger weer beschuldigd van het aanvallen van doelen in de provincie Idlib met chlorine (chloorgas)…..

BBC World Service meldde rond 11.35 u. (CET) vanmorgen dat het Syrische leger gifgas zou hebben gebruikt bij een aanval in de provincie Idlib. Het bewijs daarvoor? Een woordvoerder van de White Helmets had e.e.a. van horen zeggen, voorts heeft de BBC correspondent Martin Patience ook van alles gehoord, terwijl hij in Beiroet (Libanon) zit……..

De woordvoerder van de White Helmets voerde de haat tegen Syrië verder op, door te stellen dat het in Idlib om veel vluchtelingen gaat die uit Aleppo zijn gevlucht en wel een kwart miljoen mensen……. Het grootste deel van de bewoners van Aleppo is al lang terug, blij dat de fundamentalistische terreurgroepen (‘gematigde rebellen’) niets meer te vertellen hebben in hun stad….. De bedoelde vluchtelingen zijn dan ook voornamelijk families van de terreurgroepen die in Aleppo op basis van de sharia wetgeving, een ware terreur uitoefenden, voordat het Syrische leger de stad weer innam………

De presentator van het BBC programma had het lef te durven zeggen dat (de bewering dat Syrië gifgas heeft gebruikt): “This is proven (to be true….)”

year of the Russian presidential election as being of continuing
relevance in the struggle to separate truth from #fakenews. Tennison
presents a view of VVP as essentially “incorruptible”. To those
who get their information from the mainstream media, and even from
many alternative news sites this will seem a slightly incredible
idea. Yet Tennison’s opinion is not unsourced or unconsidered. And
the numerous claims of Putin’s massive personal wealth and
“gangster” mentality remain entirely uncorroborated. Where does
the truth lie?

February
04, 2018 “Information
Clearing House” – As the Ukraine situation has
worsened, unconscionable misinformation and hype is being poured on
Russia and Vladimir Putin. Journalists and pundits must scour the
Internet and thesauruses to come up with fiendish new epithets to
describe both. Wherever I make presentations across America, the
first question ominously asked during Q&A is always, “What
about Putin?” It’s time to share my thoughts which follow:

Putin
obviously has his faults and makes mistakes. Based on my earlier
experience with him, and the experiences of trusted people, including
U.S. officials who have worked closely with him over a period of
years, Putin most likely is a straight, reliable and exceptionally
inventive man.

He
is obviously a long-term thinker and planner and has proven to be an
excellent analyst and strategist. He is a leader who can quietly work
toward his goals under mounds of accusations and myths that have been
steadily leveled at him since he became Russia’s second president.

I’ve
stood by silently watching the demonization of Putin grow since it
began in the early 2000s –– I pondered on computer my thoughts
and concerns, hoping eventually to include them in a book (which was
published in 2011). The book explains my observations more thoroughly
than this article.

Like
others who have had direct experience with this little known man,
I’ve tried to no avail to avoid being labeled a “Putin
apologist”. If one is even neutral about him, they are considered
“soft on Putin” by pundits, news hounds and average citizens who
get their news from CNN, Fox and MSNBC.

I
don’t pretend to be an expert, just a program developer in the USSR
and Russia for the past 30 years. But during this time, I’ve have
had far more direct, on-ground contact with Russians of all stripes
across 11 time zones than any of the Western reporters or for that
matter any of Washington’s officials.

I’ve
been in country long enough to ponder on Russian history and culture
deeply, to study their psychology and conditioning, and to understand
the marked differences between American and Russian mentalities which
so complicate our political relations with their leaders.

As
with personalities in a family or a civic club or in a city hall, it
takes understanding and compromise to be able to create workable
relationships when basic conditionings are different. Washington has
been notoriously disinterested in understanding these differences and
attempting to meet Russia halfway.

In
addition to my personal experience with Putin, I’ve had discussions
with numerous American officials and U.S. businessmen who have had
years of experience working with him––I believe it is safe to say
that none would describe him as “brutal” or “thuggish”, or
the other slanderous adjectives and nouns that are repeatedly used in
western media.

I
met Putin years before he ever dreamed of being president of Russia,
as did many of us working in St.Petersburg during the 1990s. Since
all of the slander started, I’ve become nearly obsessed with
understanding his character. I think I’ve read every major speech
he has given (including the full texts of his annual hours-long
telephone “talk-ins” with Russian citizens).

I’ve
been trying to ascertain whether he has changed for the worse since
being elevated to the presidency, or whether he is a straight
character cast into a role he never anticipated––and is using
sheer wits to try to do the best he can to deal with Washington under
extremely difficult circumstances.

If
the latter is the case, and I think it is, he should get high marks
for his performance over the past 14 years. It’s not by accident
that Forbes declared him the most Powerful Leader of 2013, replacing
Obama who was given the title for 2012. The following is my one
personal experience with Putin.

The
year was 1992

It
was two years after the implosion of communism; the place was
St.Petersburg.

For
years I had been creating programs to open up relations between the
two countries and hopefully to help Soviet people to get beyond their
entrenched top-down mentalities. A new program possibility emerged in
my head. Since I expected it might require a signature from the
Marienskii City Hall, an appointment was made.

My
friend Volodya Shestakov and I showed up at a side door entrance to
the Marienskii building. We found ourselves in a small, dull brown
office, facing a rather trim nondescript man in a brown suit.

He
inquired about my reason for coming in. After scanning the proposal I
provided he began asking intelligent questions. After each of my
answers, he asked the next relevant question.

I
became aware that this interviewer was different from other Soviet
bureaucrats who always seemed to fall into chummy conversations with
foreigners with hopes of obtaining bribes in exchange for the
Americans’ requests. CCI stood
on the principle that we would never, never give bribes.

This
bureaucrat was open, inquiring, and impersonal in demeanor. After
more than an hour of careful questions and answers, he quietly
explained that he had tried hard to determine if the proposal was
legal, then said that unfortunately at the time it was not. A few
good words about the proposal were uttered. That was all. He simply
and kindly showed us to the door.

Out
on the sidewalk, I said to my colleague, “Volodya,
this is the first time we have ever dealt with a Soviet bureaucrat
who didn’t ask us for a trip to the US or something valuable!”

I
remember looking at his business card in the sunlight––it
read Vladimir
Vladimirovich Putin.

1994

U.S.
Consul General Jack Gosnell put in an SOS call to me in
St.Petersburg. He had 14 Congress members and the new American
Ambassador to Russia, Thomas Pickering, coming to St.Petersburg in
the next three days. He needed immediate help.

I
scurried over to the Consulate and learned that Jack intended me to
brief this auspicious delegation and the incoming ambassador.

I
was stunned but he insisted. They were coming from Moscow and were
furious about how U.S. funding was being wasted there. Jack wanted
them to hear the”good news” about CCI’s programs that were
showing fine results. In the next 24 hours Jack and I also set up
“home” meetings in a dozen Russian entrepreneurs’ small
apartments for the arriving dignitaries (St.Petersburg State
Department people were aghast, since it had never been done
before––but Jack overruled).

Only
later in 2000, did I learn of Jack’s former three-year experience
with Vladimir Putin in the 1990s while the latter was running the
city for Mayor Sobchak. More on this further down.

December
31, 1999

With
no warning, at the turn of the year, President Boris Yeltsin made the
announcement to the world that from the next day forward he was
vacating his office and leaving Russia in the hands of an unknown
Vladimir Putin.

On
hearing the news, I thought surely not the Putin I remembered––he
could never lead Russia. The next day a NYTarticle
included a photo.

Yes,
it was the same Putin I’d met years ago! I was shocked and
dismayed, telling friends, “This
is a disaster for Russia, I’ve spent time with this guy, he is too
introverted and too intelligent––he will never be able to relate
to Russia’s masses.”

Further,
I lamented: “For
Russia to get up off of its knees, two things must happen: 1) The
arrogant young oligarchs have to be removed by force from the
Kremlin, and 2) A way must be found to remove the regional bosses
(governors) from their fiefdoms across Russia’s 89 regions”.

It
was clear to me that the man in the brown suit would never have the
instincts or guts to tackle Russia’s overriding twin challenges.

February
2000

Almost
immediately Putin began putting Russia’s oligarchs on edge. In
February a question about the oligarchs came up; he clarified with a
question and his answer:

What
should be the relationship with the so-called oligarchs? The same as
anyone else. The same as the owner of a small bakery or a shoe repair
shop.

This
was the first signal that the tycoons would no longer be able to
flaunt government regulations or count on special access in the
Kremlin. It also made the West’s capitalists nervous.

After
all, these oligarchs were wealthy untouchable businessmen––good
capitalists, never mind that they got their enterprises illegally and
were putting their profits in offshore banks.

Four
months later Putin called a meeting with the oligarchs and gave them
his deal:

They
could keep their illegally-gained wealth-producing Soviet enterprises
and they would not be nationalized …. IF taxes were paid on their
revenues and if they personally stayed out of politics.

This
was the first of Putin’s “elegant solutions” to the near
impossible challenges facing the new Russia. But the deal also put
Putin in crosshairs with US media and officials who then began to
champion the oligarchs, particularly Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

The
latter became highly political, didn’t pay taxes, and prior to
being apprehended and jailed was in the process of selling a major
portion of Russia’s largest private oil company, Yukos Oil, to
Exxon Mobil. Unfortunately, to U.S. media and governing structures,
Khodorkovsky became a martyr (and remains so up to today).

March
2000

I
arrived in St.Petersburg. A Russian friend (a psychologist) since
1983 came for our usual visit. My first question was, “Lena
what do you think about your new president?”
She laughed and retorted, “Volodya!
I went to school with him!”

She
began to describe Putin as a quiet youngster, poor, fond of martial
arts, who stood up for kids being bullied on the playgrounds. She
remembered him as a patriotic youth who applied for the KGB
prematurely after graduating secondary school (they sent him away and
told him to get an education).

He
went to law school, later reapplied and was accepted. I must have
grimaced at this, because Lena said:

Sharon
in those days we all admired the KGB and believed that those who
worked there were patriots and were keeping the country safe. We
thought it was natural for Volodya to choose this career.

My
next question was:

What
do you think he will do with Yeltsin’s criminals in the Kremlin?

Putting
on her psychologist hat, she pondered and replied:

If
left to his normal behaviors, he will watch them for a while to be
sure what is going on, then he will throw up some flares to let them
know that he is watching. If they don’t respond, he will address
them personally, then if the behaviors don’t change–– some will
be in prison in a couple of years.

I
congratulated her via email when her predictions began to show up in
real time.

Throughout
the 2000s

St.Petersburg’s
many CCI alumni were being interviewed to determine how the PEP
business training program was working and how we could make the U.S.
experience more valuable for their new small businesses. Most
believed that the program had been enormously important, even life
changing. Last, each was asked:

So
what do you think of your new president?

None
responded negatively, even though at that time entrepreneurs hated
Russia’s bureaucrats. Most answered similarly, “Putin registered
my business a few years ago”.

Next
question:

So,
how much did it cost you?

To
a person they replied, “Putin
didn’t charge anything”.
One said:

We
went to Putin’s desk because the others providing registrations at
the Marienskii were getting ‘rich on their seats.’

Late
2000

Into
Putin’s first year as Russia’s president, US officials seemed to
me to be suspect that he would be antithetical to America’s
interests––his every move was called into question in American
media. I couldn’t understand why and was chronicling these
happenings in my computer and newsletters.

Year
2001

Jack
Gosnell (former USCG mentioned earlier) explained his relationship
with Putin when the latter was deputy mayor of St.Petersburg. The two
of them worked closely to create joint ventures and other ways to
promote relations between the two countries. Jack related that Putin
was always straight up, courteous and helpful.

When
Putin’s wife, Ludmila, was in a severe auto accident, Jack took the
liberty (before informing Putin) to arrange hospitalization and
airline travel for her to get medical care in Finland. When Jack told
Putin, he reported that the latter was overcome by the generous
offer, but ended saying that he couldn’t accept this favor, that
Ludmila would have to recover in a Russian hospital.

She
did––although medical care in Russia was abominably bad in the
1990s.

A
senior CSIS officer I was friends with in the 2000s worked closely
with Putin on a number of joint ventures during the 1990s. He
reported that he had no dealings with Putin that were questionable,
that he respected him and believed he was getting an undeserved dour
reputation from U.S. media.

Matter
of fact, he closed the door at CSIS when we started talking about
Putin. I guessed his comments wouldn’t be acceptable if others were
listening.

Another
former U.S. official who will go unidentified, also reported working
closely with Putin, saying there was never any hint of bribery,
pressuring, nothing but respectable behaviors and helpfulness.

I
had two encounters in 2013 with State Department officials regarding
Putin:

At
the first one, I felt free to ask the question I had previously
yearned to get answered:

When
did Putin become unacceptable to Washington officials and why??

Without
hesitating the answer came back:

The
knives were drawn’ when it was announced that Putin would be the
next president.”

I
questioned WHY? The
answer:

I
could never find out why––maybe because he was KGB.”

I
offered that Bush #I, was head of the CIA. The reply was

That
would have made no difference, he was our guy.

The
second was a former State Department official with whom I recently
shared a radio interview on Russia. Afterward when we were chatting,
I remarked, “You might be interested to know that I’ve collected
experiences of Putin from numerous people, some over a period of
years, and they all say they had no negative experiences with Putin
and there was no evidence of taking bribes”. He firmly replied:

No
one has ever been able to come up with a bribery charge against
Putin.”

From
2001 up to today, I’ve watched the negative U.S. media mounting
against Putin …. even accusations of assassinations, poisonings,
and comparing him to Hitler.

No
one yet has come up with any concrete evidence for these allegations.
During this time, I’ve traveled throughout Russia several times
every year, and have watched the country slowly change under Putin’s
watch. Taxes were lowered, inflation lessened, and laws slowly put in
place. Schools and hospitals began improving. Small businesses were
growing, agriculture was showing improvement, and stores were
becoming stocked with food.

Alcohol
challenges were less obvious, smoking was banned from buildings, and
life expectancy began increasing. Highways were being laid across the
country, new rails and modern trains appeared even in far out places,
and the banking industry was becoming dependable. Russia was
beginning to look like a decent country –– certainly not where
Russians hoped it to be long term, but improving incrementally for
the first time in their memories.

My
2013/14 Trips to Russia:

In
addition to St.Petersburg and Moscow, in September I traveled out to
the Ural Mountains, spent time in Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Perm.
We traveled between cities via autos and rail––the fields and
forests look healthy, small towns sport new paint and construction.
Today’s Russians look like Americans (we get the same clothing from
China).

Old
concrete Khrushchev block houses are giving way to new multi-story
private residential complexes which are lovely. High-rise business
centers, fine hotels and great restaurants are now common place––and
ordinary Russians frequent these places. Two and three story private
homes rim these Russian cities far from Moscow.

We
visited new museums, municipal buildings and huge super markets.
Streets are in good repair, highways are new and well marked now,
service stations look like those dotting American highways. In
January I went to Novosibirsk out in Siberia where similar new
architecture was noted. Streets were kept navigable with constant
snowplowing, modern lighting kept the city bright all night, lots of
new traffic lights (with seconds counting down to light change) have
appeared.

It
is astounding to me how much progress Russia has made in the past 14
years since an unknown man with no experience walked into Russia’s
presidency and took over a country that was flat on its belly.

So
why do our leaders and media demean and demonize Putin and Russia???

Like
Lady MacBeth, do they protest too much?

Psychologists
tell us that people (and countries?) project off on others what they
don’t want to face in themselves. Others carry our “shadow”
when we refuse to own it. We confer on others the very traits that we
are horrified to acknowledge in ourselves.

Could
this be why we constantly find fault with Putin and Russia?

Could
it be that we project on to Putin the sins of ourselves and our
leaders?

Could
it be that we condemn Russia’s corruption, acting like the
corruption within our corporate world doesn’t exist?

Could
it be that we condemn their human rights and LGBT issues, not facing
the fact that we haven’t solved our own?

Could
it be that we accuse Russia of “reconstituting the USSR”––because
of what we do to remain the world’s “hegemon”?

Could
it be that we project nationalist behaviors on Russia, because that
is what we have become and we don’t want to face it?

Could
it be that we project warmongering off on Russia, because of what we
have done over the past several administrations?

Some
of you were around Putin in the earlier years. Please share your
opinions, pro and con …. confidentiality will be assured. It’s
important to develop a composite picture of this demonized leader and
get the record straight. I’m quite sure that 99% of those who
excoriate him in mainstream media have had no personal contact with
him at all. They write articles on hearsay, rumors and fabrication,
or they read scripts others have written on their tele-prompters.
This is how our nation gets its “news”, such as it is.

There
is a well known code of ethics among us: Is it the Truth, Is it Fair,
Does it build Friendship and Goodwill, and Will it be Beneficial for
All Concerned?

It
seems to me that if our nation’s leaders would commit to using
these four principles in international relations, the world would
operate in a completely different manner, and human beings across
this planet would live in better conditions than they do today.

As

Het contraproductieve antwoord van Rusland op de corrupte ‘oppositieleider’ Navalny

Ongelofelijk hoe Rusland bezig is tegen de zogenaamde oppositieleider Navalny. Alsof het hier gaat om een figuur en een partij die daadwerkelijk een gevaar zouden zijn voor de Russische president Putin of de Russische samenleving………

Meer dan een paar duizend mensen krijgt de ‘corruptiebestrijder’ Navalny niet op straat….

Waar is de realiteitszin gebleven, de realiteitszin* die Putin aan de dag legde bij de oorlog van de VS** tegen de Syrische regering Assad en vooralsnog heeft kunnen voorkomen dat dit land is veranderd in een chaos zoals we die zien in Libië….. Libië waar de NAVO o.l.v. de VS dit land in één grote chaos heeft gestort, waarbij het eerst rijkste land van Afrika is veranderd in één van de armste landen op dat continent…….

Meneer Putin, laat Navalny begaan, oké als hij een misdaad pleegt moet hij vastzitten, maar zijn politieke partij is in de verste verte geen bedreiging voor u, uw regering of Rusland in het groot! Contraproductief, de manier waarop Rusland nu bezig is, immers deze geeft de anti-Russische propaganda in het westen vleugels……..

* Realiteitszin die ervoor heeft gezorgd dat de oorlog in Syrië niet is geëscaleerd in een oorlog met de VS of Turkije (althans tot nu toe)

** De VS was al vanaf 2006 bezig met de voorbereiding op een opstand in Syrië die moest uitmonden in een staatsgreep tegen Assad, een tactiek die in Libië en Oekraïne wel is gelukt en waar dit laatst genoemde land in oorlog is tegen de eigen bevolking in het oostelijk deel van dit land…… Een bevolking die voor het overgrote deel bestaat uit mensen, die niet wensen te leven onder de corrupte, door de VS geparachuteerde neonazi Porosjenko…… Ondanks de kapitalen die het westen al in Oekraïne heeft gestoken, heeft Porosjenko het land naar de rand van een faillissement gebracht (terwijl zijn buitenlandse bankrekeningen in het buitenland, ook in Nederland, tegelijkertijd fiks zijn gegroeid…….) Overigens is de VS al een paar jaar met dezelfde tactiek bezig in Venezuela, een economische oorlog die bestaat uit o.a. boycot voor medicijnen en levensmiddelen, plus ‘ontmoediging’ (lees: ‘een verbod) op nieuwe investeringen in het land (ook door investeerders van buiten de VS)….. Daarmee zou de bevolking in opstand moeten komen, waar door de VS betaalde bewapende psychopaten (veelal van buiten Venezuela) zwaar geweld gebruikten en gebruiken in demonstraties, om de regering Maduro in een kwaad daglicht te stellen…..

Hier een paar lijsten met ‘enkele’ traumatische gebeurtenissen, waarvoor weliswaar de VS zelf verantwoordelijk was: ‘VS buitenlandbeleid sinds WOII: een lange lijst van staatsgrepen en oorlogen……….‘ en: ‘List of wars involving the United States‘ (vanaf de oprichting van het middels een genocide gestolen land dat men de VS of ‘Amerika’ noemt…)

De VS is bereid om militaire actie te ondernemen tegen de Syrische regering, zo meldde Anti-Media gisteren, dit om Syrië af te houden van gifgasgebruik…….. Ofwel Trump heeft de rode lijn voor Syrië gerenoveerd….. De claim dat het reguliere Syrische leger gifgas gebruikt is een leugen van formaat, keer op keer blijkt na onderzoek dat de ‘gematigde rebellen’ (lees: psychopathische moordenaars, verkrachters en martelbeulen) verantwoordelijk zijn….. Grote verkondiger van deze leugens is de VS zelf (‘uiteraard’ gesteund door de zogenaamde onafhankelijke massamedia en het overgrote deel van de westerse VS ‘politici…’)……

‘Rebellen’ als Al Qaida Syrië (o.a. al-Nusra) hebben nog steeds voorraden gifgas, terwijl echte deskundigen, waaronder wapeninspecteurs al een aantal jaren roepen dat het Syrische leger niet langer beschikt over massavernietigingswapens als gifgas…… E.e.a. bleek bijvoorbeeld na ‘de gifgasaanval’ op Khan Sheikhoun: daar raakte de Syrische luchtmacht een wapendepot van een aan Al Qaida gelieerde terreurgroep, een wapendepot waar het gifgas chlorine was opgeslagen.

Nog steeds wordt Syrië verantwoordelijk gehouden door de reguliere westerse (massa-) media en het grootste deel van de westerse politici voor de gifgasaanval op Khan Sheikhoun, een aanval die volgens deze politici en media niet met chlorine, maar met Sarin, een zenuwgas, zou zijn gedaan…….. US
Prepared to Take Military Action Against Syrian Government Forces,
Officials Warn

(MEE) — The
Trump administration is prepared to again take military action
against Syrian government forces if necessary to deter the use of
chemical weapons and is concerned they may be developing new methods
to deliver such weapons, senior US officials said on
Thursday.

Forces
loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have continued occasional
use of chemical weapons in smaller amounts since a deadly attack last
April that drew a US missile strike on a Syrian air base, the
officials told reporters in a briefing.

If
the international community does not act quickly to step up pressure
on Assad, Syria’s chemical weapons could spread beyond Syria and
possibly even to the United States, one of the officials said,
speaking on condition of anonymity. “It will spread if we don’t
do something,” the official warned.

In
late January,
rescue workers in a rebel-held enclave east of Damascus said
government forces had again used chlorine gas, and the Syrian
Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR**) said at least 13 people had suffered
suffocation.

The
White Helmets civil defence rescue force, which operates in
rebel-held parts of Syria, said 13 civilians including women and
children had been “injured after (the) Assad regime used chlorine
gas in Douma city in Eastern Ghouta”.

The
EU last year blacklisted
over a dozen high
ranking Syrian military officials and scientists over chemical
weapons attacks on civilians inside Syria.

At
least 20 civilians were killed Thursday in Syrian government air
strikes on rebel-held territory in the country’s north, a war
monitor said.

Elsewhere
three children were reported killed in artillery strikes on
rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, while state news agency SANA said seven
people died in apparent retaliatory shelling of nearby
government-held Damascus.

The
aerial bombardments in the north pounded several areas in the
provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, where government troops are waging a
Russian-backed assault against rebels and militants.

Constitutional
Changes

Separately
on Thursday, Syria’s opposition said it would cooperate with
proposals made at a Russia-hosted conference this week to rewrite the
country’s constitution as long as the process remains under UN
auspices.

Participants
at Tuesday’s meeting in the Black Sea resort of Sochi in Russia –
which is a powerful supporter of Assad – agreed to set up a
committee to change the Syrian constitution, and called for
democratic elections.

The
main Syrian opposition negotiating group had boycotted the gathering,
while the United States, Britain and France also stayed away because
of what they said was the Syrian government’s refusal to properly
engage.

However,
chief opposition negotiator Nasr Hariri said the Syrian Negotiation
Commission would “work positively” with the proposed committee
because responsibility for setting it up had been handed to the UN
Syria envoy, Staffan de Mistura.

“If
the constitutional committee is set up… within the UN process in
Geneva, strictly consistent with UN resolution 2254, yes we will
continue to work with the UN process in this regard,” he told a
news conference.

Damascus
welcomed the results of the Sochi meeting.

“The
final statement of the conference confirmed the consensus of Syrians
on … preserving the sovereignty and unity of Syrian territory and
people, and the exclusive right of the Syrian people to choose their
own political and economic system,” the Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.

It
made no mention of the decision to set up a committee to rewrite the
constitution or the call for democratic elections.

Four
years of on-off United Nations-mediated peace talks have yielded
little progress toward ending the seven-year war, but De Mistura has
pressed ahead with efforts for a political solution.

He
said on Tuesday the constitutional committee agreed in Sochi “will
become a reality in Geneva”, where most of the UN-led Syria peace
talks have been held. De Mistura also said he would decide the
criteria for committee members and select about 50 people – from
government, opposition and independent groups.

Volkskrant en Nieuwsuur Fake News over ‘Russische hacks…..’

Mensen, verdere woorden van mij zijn overbodig bij dit verduidelijkende artikel over het nepnieuws van Huib Modderkolk dat de Volkskrant en Nieuwsuur brachten, nepnieuws over zogenaamde ‘Russische hacks…….’

Wat
de AIVD en de media je niet vertellen over de ‘Russische hacks’

De
Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten AIVD en de MIVD* blijken een
belangrijke rol te hebben gespeeld bij het FBI-onderzoek naar
‘Russische beïnvloeding’ van de Amerikaanse verkiezingen.
Althans, als we Nieuwsuur en
de Volkskrant mogen
geloven. Volgens deze ‘betrouwbare’ media gaven de Nederlandse
inlichtingendiensten de Amerikanen ‘cruciale informatie’ die zij
hadden onderschept door de hackgroep Cozy Bear te hacken. Er wordt
geclaimd dat deze hackgroep ‘in opdracht van de Russische overheid’
verschillende Amerikaanse overheidsinstanties zou hebben gehackt.
Keiharde claims, maar er worden opmerkelijk genoeg geen bewijzen
getoond aan de Nederlandse burger.

Waarom blijven Nederlandse
journalisten aan de Amerikaanse anti-Rusland retoriek vast houden, en
waarom komt dit verhaal nu pas naar buiten? Bevinden we ons te midden
van een cyberoorlog met Rusland, of is hier iets anders aan de hand?

Universiteit

Laten
we beginnen bij het begin. Volgens Nieuwsuur en de Volkskrant heeft
de AIVD in de zomer van 2014 het netwerk van een universiteit in
hartje Moskou gehackt, waardoor ze de hackgroep ‘Cozy Bear’ in de
gaten konden houden. Die zouden daar namelijk – ‘in opdracht van
de Russische overheid’ – grote hackaanvallen uitvoeren op
verschillende Amerikaanse instanties.

Maar
hoe snel het is vergeten: een van de eerste onthullingen van
NSA-klokkenluider Edward Snowden had te maken met de Amerikaanse
inlichtingendienst NSA die een grote Chinese universiteit had
gehackt, wat in juni 2013 door de South China Morning Post
werd gepubliceerd. Dit
bericht werd overigens ook door de NOS en
de Volkskrant gepubliceerd.
Zou de Russische regering echt een hackoperatie laten uitvoeren
vanuit een belangrijke universiteit in het centrum van Moskou,
terwijl het toen al een jaar bekend was dat de NSA zich richtte op
universitaire netwerken in het buitenland? Hier klopt iets niet, en
dit is zeker niet het enige merkwaardige aan het hackverhaal van
Nieuwsuur en de Volkskrant.

Waarschuwingen

Volgens
de media werden de waarschuwingen van de AIVD aan de Amerikaanse
inlichtingendiensten op prijs gesteld maar – opmerkelijk genoeg –
verder niks mee gedaan. Nieuwsuur meldt: ”Waarom de hacks bij de
DNC ondanks de Nederlandse waarschuwingen zo lang kunnen doorgaan, is
niet duidelijk.”

Het
idee dat de VS het netwerkverkeer van een grote Russische
universiteit in het centrum van de hoofdstad Moskou niet al
nauwlettend in de gaten hield, is al onwaarschijnlijk genoeg, maar
het idee dat ze niets deden, terwijl ze wisten dat de hackers in het
netwerk van overheidsinstanties zaten, en e-mails en bestanden van
politieke leiders stalen, is wel erg vergezocht. Rusland staat
bovenaan de lijst van doelwitten van de Verenigde Staten. Het verhaal
dat de Amerikaanse inlichtingendiensten niets deden ondanks de
waarschuwingen, lijkt een poging te zijn om de tijdlijn van het
lekken te verklaren. De e-mails van DNC werden namelijk tussen
januari 2015 en 25 mei 2016 gehackt en gelekt. Terwijl er wordt
geclaimd dat de AIVD sinds 2014 de hackgroep in de gaten hield. Om
dit onzinnige verhaal te laten kloppen, wordt er gedaan alsof de VS
de Nederlandse waarschuwingen negeerde, om zo uit te leggen hoe de
hackers over zo’n lange periode ongestoord hun werk konden doen.

Snowden*

Verder
wordt er geprobeerd het Nederlandse AIVD-hackteam als onafhankelijk
uit te beelden, los van de NSA, terwijl de AIVD een volwaardige
externe partner is van de NSA, die elk detail van zijn
organisatiestructuur, capaciteiten, netwerken, systemen en personeel
aan de NSA onthult in ruil voor geavanceerde analytische
mogelijkheden, verbeteringen en technologische ondersteuning. Dit
blijkt o.a. uit de gegevens die Edward Snowden in 2013 heeft
geopenbaard.

Wikileaks

Als
we de belangrijkste gehackte emails naast elkaar leggen, en daarbij
de media-aandacht hierover, zien we een opmerkelijk patroon naar
voren komen. Terwijl er in de westerse media vanaf het begin
vooral gespeculeerd wordt over de bron van de gelekte emails, praten
de Russische, Chinese en internationale alternatieve media vooral
inhoudelijk over de emails. Zo heeft Nieuwsuur Julian Assange, de
oprichter van Wikileaks, maar één keer geïnterviewd, en zoals
verwacht gingen de vragen voornamelijk over de bron van de
gehackte emails. Met, natuurlijk, een wijzende vinger naar Rusland.
Inhoudelijke vragen werden nagenoeg niet gesteld. Bekijk hieronder de
beelden.

Rusland

”De
berichten van de Nederlandse media zorgen alleen maar voor een
verdere stimulering van de anti-Russische hysterie in het Westen,”
zei een woordvoerder van het Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov afgelopen
vrijdag. “De Nederlandse kranten voeden de anti-Russische hysterie,
die plaatsvindt in de Verenigde Staten, alleen maar verder op – het
is geen erg nobele activiteit, maar in ieder geval willen we u eraan
herinneren dat wij door de Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten geen
verklaringen hebben gezien of gehoord met betrekking tot dit punt.
Het is ook niet betrouwbaar om de informatie van de Nederlandse
kranten aan te halen, “voegde Peskov toe.

Referendum
sleepwet

We
moeten als burger met opmerkelijke verhalen als deze extreem
voorzichtig zijn, vooral als ze op cruciale momenten uit anonieme
bronnen komen en ‘toevallig’ de belangen behartigen van de
inlichtingendiensten. Er wordt ons verteld over het bestaan van
videobeelden waarop de hackers te zien zijn, maar we zullen die nooit
te zien krijgen. We moeten maar geloven dat het bestaat. Net zoals we
de woorden van de anonieme bronnen waar Nieuwsuur en de Volkskrant
zich op baseren, maar moeten accepteren, ook al zullen ze geen enkel
bewijs leveren die de claims ondersteunen. Dit is precies hoe
regelrechte, gemakkelijk bewijsbare desinformatie wordt verspreidt.

Laten we niet vergeten dat het referendum over de sleepwet over een
paar maanden plaats zal vinden in Nederland. Onze overheid en
inlichtingendiensten zullen alle middelen inzetten om de bevolking te
overtuigen dat deze wet nodig is. Blijkbaar is vage informatie
verspreiden die niet te verifiëren valt, een onderdeel van deze
strategie. Na het lezen van honderden reacties op de publicaties van
de NOS en de Volkskrant, geloven wij niet dat de Nederlandse
bevolking hier zomaar in zal trappen. Sterker nog, steeds meer
burgers in Nederland worden kritischer en begrijpen dat een claim
zonder bewijs, enkel een claim blijft.

* Edward Snowden is een voormalig CIA- en NSA medewerker die in 2013 documenten naar buiten bracht die vele Amerikaanse staatsgeheimen onthulden. Hieruit bleek dat de Amerikaanse inlichtingendienst, de NSA – door middel van een soort sleepnet -grootschalig de Amerikaanse bevolking bespioneerde. Later bracht hij ook andere zaken aan het licht. Zo heeft hij onder andere onthuld dat de Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten, de AIVD en de MIVD in opdracht van de Amerikanen werken en niet zelfstandig functioneren.

De CIA houdt zich sinds enige tijd ook bezig met het voorspellen van de toekomst, niet vreemd voor een terreurorgaan dat oneindig veel vaker liegt dan de waarheid spreekt.

Het BBC World Service radionieuws van 1.00 u. afgelopen nacht, bracht het nieuws dat opperhufter en massamoordenaar Pompeo, directeur van de CIA, alle aanwijzingen heeft en het erop lijkt dat Rusland de VS ‘midterm’ verkiezingen later dit jaar zal manipuleren. Met andere woorden: deze plork heeft als bewijs voor z’n toekomstvoorspelling ‘aanwijzingen’ waardoor het erop lijkt dat Rusland ‘alweer’ verkiezingen in de VS zal manipuleren……… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Ten eerste is er geen greintje bewijs voor eerdere Russische manipulaties (ook het laatste Volkskrant/Nieuwsuur verhaal aangaande Russiagate is apekool…*) en ten tweede zou men in Rusland wel helemaal knettergek zijn geworden als men inderdaad zou proberen de VS verkiezingen te manipuleren, zeker na alle leugens die de VS en anderen hierover hebben geventileerd in de westerse massamedia…….

Wel geeft dombo Pompeo met zijn belachelijke praatje aan dat zijn CIA al bezig is met het verzamelen van non-bewijs om Rusland weer als de kwaaie pier aan te wijzen…….. Niet zo moeilijk als je de VS documenten ziet die zijn opgeslagen onder Vault 7 en 8 op Wikileaks. Daaruit blijkt dat de VS andere landen of bedrijven kan hacken en een spoor achter kan laten dat bijvoorbeeld leidt naar Russische servers, dan wel naar de Russische geheime dienst……

‘Een mooie manier’ van oorlogshitsen tegen Rusland, immers de militaire Trump administratie (of eigenlijk: junta) heeft gesteld dat een aanval met kernwapens kan worden overwogen, bij een cyberaanval op de VS……** Dit terwijl er alleen keiharde bewijzen zijn voor dergelijke acties begaan door…. de VS zelf tegen landen die men daar als vijandig beschouwt!

Daarover gesproken, kernwapens: Pompeo stelde dat het nog maar een paar maanden duurt voordat Noord-Korea werkende kernraketten heeft waarmee het doelen in de VS kan raken……… (dus het wordt tijd voor ‘actie’ van de VS…) Terwijl Trump en Tillerson hebben gesteld dat ze een eind willen maken aan de zoektocht naar kernwapens door Noord-Korea, m.a.w.: Noord-Korea heeft geen werkende atoombom!!! Een enorme fout van Trump en later Tillerson, om dit toe te geven! Echter dit zou wel stroken met het feit dat nog geen land heeft geconstateerd dat er radioactieve straling te meten was boven de plek waar Noord-Korea haar ondergrondse ‘kernproeven’ hield. Dit is in de dagen na zo’n proef te meten, zelfs middels satellieten en daarvan gaan er dagelijks wel ‘een paar’ over Noord-Korea……

Dat de gehieme diensten van de VS vooral heel vaak liegen als ze iets beweren is al heel lang bekend, maar de FBI maakt ‘t nu wel helemaal bont……..

De oprichter van RT (Russia Today) en voormalig media adviseur van de Russische regering, Mikhail Lesin, werd in november 2015 dood gevonden in zijn hotelkamer te Washington (DC). De autoriteiten hielden het op een hartaanval, een conclusie die haaks stond op de werkelijkheid, gezien het autopsie rapport dat maanden later verscheen……

Zo had Lesin wonden aan het hoofd en het lichaam die waren toegebracht met een stomp voorwerp…….

De FBI maakte hier later het verhaal van dat Lesin zichzelf had dood geslagen, o.a. door zich herhaaldelijk tegen de grond te werpen, dit onder invloed van ethanol, ofwel alcohol…….. Je snapt ‘t al: kul van groot kaliber! De VS sloot in 2016 het dossier uiteindelijk met de conclusie dat Lesin op een natuurlijke manier aan z’n einde was gekomen……ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Kortom: alweer is ook de FBI verantwoordelijk voor ‘fake news….’

‘Toevallig’ kwamen in de tijd van Lesins dood en daarna meerdere Russische hoogwaardigheidsbekleders e.d. ‘op een vreemde manier’ aan hun einde……… (zie de links onder het ZeroHedge artikel)

Gezien de agressie van de geheime diensten in de VS, is het de vraag hoe lang het zal duren voordat deze moorden worden toegeschreven aan die geheime diensten, dan wel dat ze door deze diensten werden geïnitieerd……..

The
FBI just released the results of their investigation claiming that
the media mogul and found of RT killed
himself by repeatedly smashing his head and upper body into the
ground.

In
November 2015, the
Free Thought Project reported that
Mikhail Lesin, the former head of media affairs for the Russian
government, and the founder
of Russia Today (RT), was found dead in the hotel room that he was
staying at in Washington DC.

Originally, authorities
announced that Lesin died from a heart attack.

However,
the results of his autopsy released months later indicated a far more
sinister cause of death and the heavily redacted FBI documents that
were just released add to that story.

The
documents, detailing the FBI investigation into Lesin’s death were
just released Saturday
morning in spite of the investigation ending in October of 2016.

In
spite of the original cause of death noted as a heart attack, a few
months later, the District of Colombia’s Office of the Chief
Medical Examiner (OCME) and Metropolitan Police Department said that
“blunt force injuries of the neck, torso, upper extremities and
lower extremities” contributed to Lesin’s death. “The
Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has released the cause
and manner of death for Mikhail Lesin… Cause of Death: blunt force
injuries of the head,” the
statement said.

Now,
FBI investigators have released the results of their investigation
claiming that the blunt force trauma all over his body was
self-inflicted.

“Mr.
Lesin died as a result of blunt for injuries to his head, with
contributing causes being blunt force injuries of the neck, torso,
upper extremities, and lower extremities, which were induced by
falls, with acute ethanol intoxication,” the
report states.

In
other words, the FBI is claiming that Lesin got so drunk that he
repeatedly and violently fell on things until he killed himself.

To
show just how much information the FBI is willing to release on these
findings, here is the version of the amended autopsy report they
released in the report.

Essentially,
all other information in regards to the findings of Lesin’s death
has been scrubbed from the documents as the remaining pages are
almost entirely redacted.

Not
only did the US remain tight-lipped on the investigation but they
also refused to allow Russian authorities to cooperate.

As
RT reports, back in 2016, months before the closing of the case,
Moscow said it was expecting Washington to explain why Russia had not
received any details from the probe into Lesin’s death, despite
repeated requests.

“We
are awaiting the related clarifications from Washington and the
official data on the progress of the investigation,” Foreign
Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote in a Facebook post at that
time. She added that if the media reports citing the forensic
statement are confirmed, Russia
will send an official request to the US “for
international legal assistance.”

In
October 2016, the US authorities announced that Lesin died of natural
causes and closed the case. “Based
on the evidence, including video footage and witness interviews, Mr.
Lesin entered his hotel room on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 4,
2015, after
days of excessive consumption of alcohol and sustained the injuries
that resulted in his death while alone in his hotel room,” the
US attorney for the District of Columbia said in
a statement.

Lesin’s
death came at a time where he was surrounded by controversy,
especially in the US. RT,
the Russian-based news source that Lesin founded has become very
controversial in the US—ostensibly for the fake Russiagate
scandal—but in reality, for challenging the western narrative of
foreign policy and privacy issues. Some US politicians have suggested
that RT be banned in the US for “spreading propaganda,” while
others have been blatant enough to attack Lesin personally.

According
to the NY
Times, until
late 2014 Lesin ran the media wing of the state’s energy
giant, Gazprom,
before stepping down or, more likely, being forced out. He ended up
in the United States, where he and his family owned properties in Los
Angeles said to be worth far more than the salary of the former
government minister.

Some
US Senators, including Roger Wicker of Mississippi, had called for
the Department of Justice to open an investigation into Lesin’s
finances prior to his death.

Wicker
was concerned that Lesin made too much money, something that was
really none of his business.

“That
a Russian public servant could have amassed the considerable funds
required to acquire and maintain these assets in Europe and the
United States raises serious questions,” Wicker
said.

The
original announcement of the heart attack back in November 2015
makes this case all the more ominous considering the fact that the
medical examiner’s office also said Lesin’s body had blunt force
trauma to the neck, torso, arms and legs too. How did
authorities overlook his wounds?

As
RT reports, Lesin was considered one of the most influential
figures in the Russian media landscape. A
graduate of Moscow State University with a degree in Civil
Engineering, he served as Minister of Press and Mass Media from 1999
to 2004. He was also a presidential media adviser from 2004 to 2009.
Lesin became chief executive officer at Garprom-Media in 2013 and
remained in the position until early 2015.

De VS gaf meer dan 1 miljoen dollar uit om protesten tegen Iraans bewind uit te buiten (en te organiseren)

Ja, beetje vreemde kop met de toevoeging tussen aanhalingstekens, waarin ik de kop boven het artikel van Darius Shahtahmasebi op Creative Commons en Anti-Media probeer mee te nemen. Volgens hem heeft de VS de koe bij de horens gevat om de protesten in Iran van december 2017 en de eerste week van dit jaar te gebruiken en deze te veranderen in (gewelddadig) protest tegen het Iraanse bewind………

Zo bezien zou je denken dat Shahtahmasebi, die onderzoeksjournalist Nafeed Ahmed meermaals citeert, blijkbaar niet weet dat de VS altijd al (CIA) agenten in Iran had, agenten die niet alleen aan spionage doen, maar ook proberen mensen te winnen voor een opstand tegen het Iraanse bewind. Het is dan ook zeker, dat de CIA aandeel had in het organiseren van de ‘opstand’. Later wordt hier wel aan gerefereerd door Shahtahmasebi. Deze bemoeienis van de VS bestaat al van voor de Iraanse revolutie in 1979, al zal het aantal agenten de eerste jaren na deze revolutie in Iran wel minimaal zijn geweest, als ze al niet de benen hadden genomen naar een ander dan wel hun ‘thuisland’.

Vergeet niet dat er voor de Iraanse revolutie een groot aantal VS beambten werkzaam was in toen nog de Perzische dictatuur van sjah Pahlavi, die in het zadel werd geholpen (1953*) en gehouden door de VS, dezelfde VS (middels de CIA) die de gehate geheime dienst trainde……. Al met al zijn door eerdere VS regeringen vele miljoenen uitgegeven aan Iran, met de bedoeling een verandering van regime te kopen

Shahtahmasebi citeert Ahmed die uitlegt dat uit congressionele documenten Trumps (zijn militaire administratie) bemoeienissen duidelijk worden gemaakt, bemoeienissen waarmee op meerdere manieren gepoogd werd een verandering van bewind in Iran voor elkaar te krijgen (een bewind dat pro-VS zou moeten zijn, zoals je begrijpt)………

Lees hoe ‘de waard’ (de VS) haar gasten vertrouwt en zelf de grote manipulator is van processen in alweer een land waar het niets te zoeken heeft…… Van Rusland kan dit niet gezegd worden, daar er geen bewijzen zijn (zelfs het Volkskrant artikel over Russiagate van afgelopen week blijkt apekool te zijn, later meer daarover), terwijl de reguliere media (zoals de Volkskrant, NRC, Telegrof, radio en tv) en de meeste westerse politici volhouden dat Rusland de grote manipulator is, echter voor de VS manipulaties, waarvoor bewijzen te over zijn, hebben deze media en politici amper of geen aandacht…….. Bewijzen voor de manipulaties van de VS, op een groot aantal manieren toegepast op een evenzo groot aantal landen….. Waar de Vault 7 en 8 gelekte VS overheidsdocumenten op Wikileaks aangeven dat de CIA, NSA en andere geheime diensten in de VS, deze manipulaties in de schoenen van een ander land kunnen schuiven (bijvoorbeeld door een spoor achter te laten dat eindigt bij een IP-adres in een ander land…….)

US Spent Over $1 Million to Exploit Protests in Iran for ‘Regime
Change’

(ANTIMEDIA Op-ed) — The
U.S. State Department spent over $1 million to exploit unrest in
Iran, investigative journalist Nafeez Ahmed reported last
week in Le
Muslim Post.

At
the end of 2017 and through the
first week of 2018,
Iran was rocked by protests through its major cities, and the Trump
administration quickly pounced to exploit the dissent. The U.S. even
tried calling an urgent U.N. Security Council meeting that ultimately
backfired because
the rest of the major U.N. players weren’t interested in exploiting
Iran’s protests for personal gain.

However,
the Trump administration’s desire to exploit unrest in Iran may go
much further than mere diplomatic support for anti-regime protesters.
Ahmed explains:

“A
range of recent official documents, from Congressional research to US
foreign aid funding reports, throw new light on the Trump
administration’s approach. The documents reveal the US government’s
continued interest in triggering major political change in Iran to
pull the country into the orbit of American interests. This includes
the possibility of exploiting political unrest and other crises –
including a worsening water crisis – to turn popular opinion
against the regime.” However,
the Trump administration’s desire to exploit unrest in Iran may go
much further than mere diplomatic support for anti-regime protesters.
Ahmed explains:

This
introduction may be no surprise to some, as Anti-Media has previously
explained that
regime change in Iran has become more or less an official Trump
administration policy and that a CIA office has even been established
to complete this nefarious goal.

Ahmed
explains further:

“Iran’s
unrest has mostly been driven by a convergence of domestic
ecological, energy and economic crises. The State Department has
sought to exploit these crises to undermine the legitimacy of the
regime, by funding opposition groups as well as anti-regime
broadcasting to the tune of tens of millions of dollars a year…One
State Department funding document, for instance, refers to a project
to use Iran’s growing water crisis to drum up public anger against
regime “mismanagement”. To
date, US government records show that the Trump
administration has spent over $1m,
at least, since 2016, on financing anti-regime activism within Iran.”

However,
as Ahmed explains, the recent findings are nothing new in terms of
American foreign policy, as “successive
US administrations have invested tens of millions of dollars a year
on ‘democracy promotion efforts’ in Iran.”
This was also detailed
in the book Which
Path to Persia? – a
neoconservative roadmap for targeting Iran for regime change.

“Democracy
production” is a nice way for the U.S. to openly discuss regime
change operations, which ultimately have nothing to do with democracy
by their very nature given the U.S. is the extrinsic driving
force behind proposed changes.

As
Ahmed notes, much of the media programming funded by the State
Department has “focused
on glorifying the reign of the Shah of Iran, the brutal US-UK backed
dictator who was deposed by the 1979 revolution.” As The
Diplomat’s
recently published
article entitled
“Why Iran’s Monarchy Could Unite a Divided Country” concludes:

“[T]he legacy of
the Pahlavis, who themselves come from a humble background, is
‘modernism, secularism, and nationalism’, so perhaps today, a
combination of support from liberals, nationalists, exiles, and the
rural poor tired of being fleeced by clerics can lay the groundwork
for the reestablishment of a constitutional Iranian
monarchy” suddenly
makes a lot more sense in this context.

Despite
this noticeable propaganda effort, the Trump administration’s Iran
strategy ultimately went further than attempting to win the war of
ideas. One document entitled “Iran’s Foreign and Defense
Policies,” dated
February 6, 2017,
allegedly describes how the decision
to place Iran “officially on notice” was
to signal that “the
new Administration might change US rules of engagement to include the
use of deadly force in future incidents.” The
document also notes that these aggressive policies could indirectly
lead to the collapse of the 2015 nuclear accord, known as the Joint
Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In order to achieve these aims,
the document seemed to indicate, a continued military relationship
with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is pivotal.

Further,
a Congressional document entitled
“Iran: Politics, Human Rights and US Policy” dated February 17,
2017, stated the following:

“The
Trump Administration has not stated a position on whether it would
seek to change Iran’s regime, but its characterization of Iran as a
US adversary could suggest that the Administration
might support efforts to oust the Iranian regime should opportunities
to do so present themselves.” [emphasis
added]

However,
the tell-all moment in the document is the paragraph that explains
why the U.S. has not yet directly pursued regime change. The document
states:

“In
the absence of all-out US pursuit of regime change, successive
Administrations and Congress have promoted
political evolution in Iran through ‘democracy promotion’ and
sanctions on Iranian human rights abuses.” [emphasis
added]

As
Ahmed explains, “Iran democracy promotion” funds have
been “obligated through DRL [Bureau of Democracy, Human
Rights and Labor Affairs] and the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs in
partnership with USAID. Some of the funds have also been used for
cultural exchanges, public diplomacy, and broadcasting to Iran.”

The
U.S. government is also reportedly spending at least $33 million a
year on what Ahmed terms “soft propaganda” through its funding of
Radio Farda and the Voice of America (VOA)’s Persian Service to
spread anti-regime sentiment. In early 2017, the son of the late
Shah was actually
broadcast into
Iran via these two stations. He advocated “peaceful regime change”
through protest and civil disobedience. Remember this the next
time the intelligence
agencies release a report stating
Russian-owned media outlets RT and Sputnik are
to blame for landing Donald Trump in the White House.

While
full data for the year 2017 is not yet available, Ahmed argues that
USAID and State Department records reveal the U.S. spent over
$1,146,196 on various opposition groups in Iran from 2016 through the
Trump administration’s first year in office. These funds were
provided by the State Department through the National Endowment for
Democracy (NED).

When
contacted for comment, Ahmed told Anti-Media that
while “much of this figure is undoubtedly attributed to Obama,
the vast majority of the 2017 spend has not been published yet,”
also noting that the 2017 figure already “looks to be in the
order of a million plus.”

According
to Ahmed, from 2014 to 2017, the Obama and Trump administration’s
spent a total of $2,948,733 through the State Department to fund
opposition activists in Iran. NED records describing where the funds
were going outline that the mission was to “engage members of
the Iranian intelligentsia in public deliberation on the social,
economic and political prospects of a democratic Iran.”

Another
document reportedly states that the funds were for the purpose of
building “the capacity of Iranian citizens to conduct
community-level political process monitoring through a focused
training program.”

Ahmed
also highlights that one of the core ways the U.S. has sought to
exploit unrest in Iran is to target Iran’s looming water
crisis (something
we have seen
before in Syria).
While many of the protesters’ concerns about Iran’s current
situation are certainly justifiable, America’s decision to try to
involve itself and exploit unrest for its own gains arguably are not.
As Ahmed explains:

“While
the US government routinely uses Iran’s abysmal human rights record
as a core justification for its anti-regime efforts, its alliance
with similarly abusive Gulf regimes like Saudi Arabia – in the name
of isolating and weakening the Iranian regime – discredits the idea
that US policy is genuinely motivated by humanitarian or democratic
considerations.”

Doodmoe wordt je van alle berichten met de melding dat een VS bombardement dan wel beschieting met raketten uit een straaljager, verantwoordelijk is voor een groot aantal burgerslachtoffers……. In de reguliere media denkt men er ook zo over, alleen betekent het ‘doodmoe’ daar het niet eens brengen van dergelijk nieuws, dat is immers maar lastig voor onze grootste bondgenoot, terreurentiteit VS………

Nee, doodmoe in de zin van hoe kan dit keer op keer gebeuren zonder dat iemand de VS aanklaagt…. Al zou het Internationaal Strafhof in Den Haag eindelijk bezig zijn met 2 zaken tegen de VS, dit vanwege oorlogsmisdaden begaan in Afghanistan…….. (dit daar Afghanistan dit Strafhof erkent*)

Doodmoe ook van de onverschilligheid van velen als het om oorlogsmisdaden van de VS gaat, blijkbaar is alles wat de VS doet heilig, echter als er een aanval wordt gemeld met burgerdoden die zouden zijn gevallen bij een luchtaanval door Syrië of Rusland, is het land te klein… Waarbij dan nog opgemerkt moet worden dat de meeste van die berichten niet eens kloppen, echter de reguliere westerse (massa-) media en het grootste deel van de westerse politici vinden het al genoeg als Rusland en/of het Syrische leger worden genoemd als daders (dan moet het wel waar zijn….)…….

Beschuldigingen bijvoorbeeld gedaan door het SOHR, het Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, dat bestaat uit één man, een gewezen Syrische misdadiger, die zijn land ontvluchtte om terechte gevangenisstraf te ontlopen (dat soort figuren krijgen wel asiel in het westen….). Het SOHR brengt vooral berichten waarin het Syrische leger wordt beschuldigd van oorlogsmisdaden, informatie die het SOHR krijgt van de ‘gematigde terreurgroepen’ (lees: psychopathische moordenaars, verkrachters en martelbeulen) en de White Helmets, een propaganda onderdeel van Al Qaida in Syrië…….

US
Airstrikes Kill at Least 13 Civilians in Syria, Including 7 Women

(ANTIWAR.COM) — US
and coalition warplanes attacked the village of Shafah, in eastern
Syria, overnight on Tuesday, killing
at least 13 civilians and by some accounting 15.
Seven of the slain were women.

The
coalition has declined comment on the Tuesday night attacks, and when
pressed by the media simply referred them to a previous statement.
That statement, however, addressed an attack on Sunday, in which they
claimed 150 ISIS fighters were killed in the same village.

Shafah
is a village along the Euphrates River, not far from the Iraqi
border. The Sunday attack statement claimed ISIS had their
“headquarters” in Syria at that village. Having claimed to have
destroyed it, however, it’s unclear why they keep attacking the
site.

The
Sunday attack, however, included a statement that the US was very
certain it was impossible that no civilians could’ve been killed.
It’s clear that was not the case in the Tuesday strike, though this
may be one of those incidents which never officially finds its way
into Pentagon reports.

In een bericht dat gisteren werd gepubliceerd op CounterPunch (gevonden via het blog van Stan van Houcke) heeft de schrijver John LaForge zware kritiek op de de houding van de Trump administratie t.a.v. kernwapens….. Dit n.a.v. een artikel op de Huffington Post, waarin werd geciteerd uit gelekte concept documenten over het beleid dat de Trump administratie voert ten aanzien van kernwapens en uiteen wordt gezet in de Nuclear Posture Review >> NPR (VS).

Trump’s
Draft Nuclear Posture Review Degrades National Security

On
Jan. 11, the Huffington Post posted a leaked draft of the Trump
Administration’s Nuclear
Posture Review,
the government’s most detailed unclassified nuclear weapons and war
planning and preparation document, the first since April 2010.

The
NPR is used to provide smart-sounding euphemism and theoretical
distraction to reporters and scholars who sometimes write about
nuclear weapons. Since such weapons can only produce firestorms
and massacres that neither medics nor hospitals can begin to respond
to, the government uses cool, technical terminology to sell the
“need” and “usefulness” of the devices to tax payers.

Nuclear
Watch New Mexico* in Santa Fe keeps a critical eye on programs and
problems at the state’s two nuclear weapons design and production
laboratories, Los Alamos and Sandia. In the following, Nuclear Watch
NM provides expert analysis of the latest official gibberish.

The
new Review begins with “[m]any hoped conditions had been set for
deep reductions in global nuclear arsenals, and, perhaps, for their
elimination. These aspirations have not been realized. America’s
strategic competitors have not followed our example. The world is
more dangerous, not less.” The Review then points to Russia and
China’s ongoing nuclear weapons modernization programs and North
Korea’s “nuclear provocations.” It concludes, “We must look
reality in the eye and see the world as it is, not as we wish it be.”

If
the US government were to really “look reality in the eye and see
the world as it is,” it would recognize that it is failing
miserably to lead the world toward the abolition of the only class of
weapons that is a true existential threat to our country. As an
obvious historic matter, the US is the first and only country to use
nuclear weapons. Since WWII the US has threatened to use nuclear
weapons in the Korean and Viet Nam wars, and on many other occasions.

Further,
it is hypocritical to point to Russia and China’s “modernization”
programs as if they are taking place in a vacuum. The US has been
upgrading its nuclear arsenal all along. In the last few years our
country has embarked on a $1.7 trillion modernization program to
completely rebuild its nuclear weapons production complex and all
weapons based on land, in the air and at sea.

Moreover,
Russia and China’s modernization programs are driven in large part
by their perceived need to preserve strategic stability and
deterrence by having the ability to overwhelm the US’s growing
ballistic missile defenses. Ronald Reagan’s pursuit of “Star
Wars” (fed by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s false
promises of success) blocked a nuclear weapons abolition agreement in
1988 with the former Soviet Union. In 2002, George W. Bush
unilaterally withdrew the US from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM Treaty),
which has been a source of constant friction with the Russian
government ever since.

More
recently, at Israel’s request, the US blocked the 2015
Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference at the UN from agreeing to
a conference on a nuclear weapon-free zone in the Middle East (Israel
has never signed the treaty). As an overarching matter, the US and
other nuclear-armed treaty signatories have never honored the
Treaty’s Article VI mandate “to pursue negotiations in good faith
on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race
at an early date and to nuclear disarmament…,” in effect since
1970. As a consequence, last year more than 120 countries at the UN
passed a nuclear weapons ban treaty which the US vehemently
denounced, despite the fact that there have long been ban treaties on
chemical and biological weapons which the US has not only supported
but also sought to enforce.

With
respect to North Korea’s nuclear provocations, that regime is
clearly seeking deterrence against the US. North Korea’s
infrastructure was completely destroyed during the Korean War, and
its people later witnessed the destruction of the Iraqi and Libyan
regimes neither of which had nuclear weapons.

Finally,
the NPR purports to be about “deterrence” against hostile
threats. However, the US’s true nuclear posture has never been just
deterrence, but rather the ability to conduct nuclear attacks,
including pre-emptive first strikes. This is why the US (and Russia)
keep thousands of nuclear weapons instead of the few hundred the
other nuclear powers keep for just deterrence. Keeping and improving
the ability to use nuclear weapons is the underlying reason for the
$1.7 trillion “modernization” program (another euphemism) that is
actually developing new nuclear weapons, instead of maintaining a few
hundred, known to be “useful” for 50 years, while pursuing
nuclear disarmament.

Beyond
preserving and upgrading the enormous land, sea and air-based nuclear
arsenal, the new NPR calls for:

1)
Near-term development of a low-yield nuclear warhead for existing
Trident missiles launched from new submarines.

2)
New sub-launched nuclear-armed cruise missiles.

3)
Keeping the 1.2 megaton B83-1 nuclear gravity bomb “until a
suitable replacement is identified.” [Hiroshima times 80]

4)
“Provide the enduring capability and capacity to produce plutonium
‘pits’ [warhead cores] at a rate of no fewer than 80 pits per
year by 2030.”

5)
“Advancing the W78 warhead replacement to FY19… and investigating
the feasibility of fielding the nuclear explosives package in a Navy
flight vehicle.”

Obvious
problems with these five programs are:

1)
An adversary won’t know whether a Trident sub-launched nuclear
warhead is a new low-yield or an existing high-yield warhead. In any
event, any belief in a “limited’ nuclear war is a fallacy that
shouldn’t be tested. Once the nuclear threshold is crossed at any
level, it is crossed, and lower-yield nuclear weapons are all the
more dangerous for being potentially more usable.

2)
Sub-launched nuclear-armed cruise missiles are inherently
destabilizing as the proverbial “bolt out of the blue,” and can
be the perfect weapon for a nuclear first-strike. Moreover, this is
redundant to nuclear-armed cruise missiles that are already being
developed for heavy bombers.

3)
The National Nuclear Security Administration largely justified the
ongoing program to create the B61-12 (the world’s first “smart”
nuclear gravity bomb) by being a replacement for the 1.2 megaton
B83-1 bomb. Does this indicate doubts in the $13 billion B61-12
program? And will it lead to a bump up in the number of nuclear
weapons in the US’s arsenal?

4)
To date, the talk has been up to 80 pits per year, not “no fewer
than.” Also, the 2015 Defense Authorization Act required that the
capability to produce up to 80 pits per year be demonstrated by 2027.
The NPR’s later date of 2030 could be indicative of longstanding
plutonium pit production problems at the Los Alamos National
Laboratory. That delay and hints of higher than 80 pits per year
could also point to the pit production mission being relocated at the
Savannah River Site, which is under active consideration. In any
event, future plutonium pit production pit production is not needed
for the existing nuclear weapons stockpile, but is instead for future
new-design nuclear weapons.

5)
“W78 warhead replacement… in a Navy flight vehicle” is code for
so-called Interoperable Warheads, whose planned three versions
together could cost around $50 billion. These are arguably huge make
work projects for the nuclear weapons labs (particularly Livermore),
which ironically the Navy doesn’t even want (Navy
memo,
Sept. 27, 2012). It is also the driving reason for unnecessary
future production of more than 80 pits per year.

Jay
Coghlan, Nuclear Watch’s Executive Director, concludes with a grim
prognosis:

“The
new NPR does not even begin to meet our long-term need to eliminate
the one class of weapons of mass destruction that can truly destroy
our country. It will instead set back arms control efforts and
further hollow out our country by diverting yet more huge sums of
money to the usual giant weapons contractors at the expense of public
health and education, environmental protection, natural disaster
recovery, etc. Under the Trump Administration and this NPR, expect
Medicare and social security to be attacked to help pay for a false
sense of military superiority.”
