Johnson van Common Dreams publiceerde afgelopen vrijdag een artikel
waarin hij de top van de Democratische Partij beschuldigd van het
niet serieus nemen van de klimaatverandering en de grote sociale
ongelijkheid in de VS. Reden daarvoor is een handeling van Nancy
Pelosi, zij is de partijleider van de democraten in het huis van
afgevaardigden….
Pelosi
heeft in het huis van afgevaardigden officieel aangekondigd dat de
republikeinse afgevaardigde Kathy Castor de voorzitter zal worden van
een nieuw comité dat over de klimaatcrisis zal gaan…..
Progressieve
leden van de Democratische Partij verwijten Pelosi volkomen terecht
dat ze op de doodlopende weg voortgaat met een slap congressioneel panel, i.p.v.
te luisteren naar de eis voor een sterk en visionair ‘Green Deal’ comité…….
Justice
Democrats, een lobbygroep die hielp bij de organisatie voor het
mobiliseren van draagkracht voor een ‘Green New Deal Select
Comittee’, stelde in een verklaring dat de leiding van de democraten (zoals gezegd) op een dood spoor zit, het pad van de minste weerstand….
De
woordvoerder van de Justice Democrats, Waleed Shahid stelde in een
reactie dat de partijleiding uit is op een zwak comité, dat
bovendien niet de bevoegdheid zal hebben mensen te dagvaarden en waarin politici zullen
worden toegelaten die donaties hebben aangenomen van de
oliemaffia…….
Beetje
vreemd wel overigens die reactie in de VS, immers al onder Obama
begon de VS (als Australië) met de dumping van steenkool op de
wereldmarkt, waardoor de prijs op ongekende laagte uitkwam en zelfs
Nederland de gascentrales uitschakelde en volop ging inzetten op
steenkoolverbranding…..
De
wolf in schaapskleren Obama, had zelfs geen moeite met de bouw van
een door de VS ontworpen en gebouwde kolencentrale in Bangladesh, de grootste in
dat land en dat godbetert in de Sundarbans, een groot natuurpark……….
Maar god wat was Obama toch geweldig op het gebied van de klimaatverandering (volgens de reguliere westerse massamedia), zoals hij ook ‘een geweldige heraut voor de vrede’ was, terwijl Obama als eerste VS president de volledige 2 termijnen in oorlogen was verwikkeld en zelf 2 illegale oorlogen begon……
Het voorgaande nog naast het vermoorden, in feite door Obama (daar hij zijn goedkeuring moest geven) van een duizenden mensen middels drones, waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werd verdacht….. Verder was Obama verantwoordelijk voor het opzetten van 2 staatsgrepen, t.w. in Honduras en Oekraïne, waarbij en waardoor ook al grote aantallen mensen werden vermoord……* Het voorgaande nog naast illegale militaire VS operaties in andere delen van Afrika (anders dan Noord-Afrika >> Libië) en de Filipijnen (in eerste instantie was de VS daar illegaal bezig)……..
Ach
ja, het doel van het verzet in de Democratische partij, ingaan tegen de smerige machinaties van Pelosi, is niet
verkeerd moet je maar denken…..

het volgende verhaal en zegt het voort, veel teveel mensen denken nog
steeds dat de Democratische Partij ver is te prefereren boven de
Republikeinse Partij, terwijl de twee bijzonder weinig van elkaar
verschillen en het juist de hoogste tijd is dat een nieuwe echt
linkse partij opstaat in de VS. Wellicht krijgen de landen waar deze
terreurstaat haar massamoorden begaat eindelijk rust en behoeven
democratisch gekozen regeringen niet langer bang te zijn voor
machinaties uit Washington en Langley (CIA zetel)…….

the Leadership This Moment Calls For’: Progressives Slam Pelosi for
Pushing ‘Weak’ Climate Panel Over Green New Deal Committee

Following
presumptive House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) official
announcementon
Friday that Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) will chair the new
Select Committee on the Climate Crisis,
progressives accused the Democratic leadership of moving ahead with a
“weak” congressional panel instead of listening to
grassroots demands for a more bold and visionary Green New Deal
Select Committee.
Justice
Democrats—an advocacy group that helped organize
recent mobilizations
in support of a Green New Deal—declared
in a statement that the Democratic leadership appears dead-set on
taking the “path of least resistance” when it comes to
tackling the climate crisis.
“Nancy
Pelosi and the Democratic Party leadership seem to be pushing forward
a weak Select Committee that has no subpoena power, that allows
participation from members of Congress who take donations from the
fossil fuel industry, and that has no explicit goals regarding the
mass economic mobilization needed to match the [United Nations’]
recommendations on scale and timeline,” Justice Democrats
spokesman Waleed Shahid said in a statement.

Prakash, founder of the youth-led Sunrise Movement, said refusal to
embrace a Green New Deal “would be a dereliction of duty from
Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership.”
As Common
Dreams reported last
week, green groups and youth climate leaders warned that the
Democratic leadership is working to undermine the surging demand for
a Green New Deal Select Committee by reviving an old climate panel
that could have
even less authority than
its previous iteration, which had subpoena power.
Without
this power, critics
argue,
the committee will be unable to compel fossil fuel executives to
testify and turn over key documents.
“It’s
extremely disappointing that the current proposal may be even weaker
than Pelosi’s previous Select Committee on climate in 2007,”
Shahid said on Friday. “Democratic leadership still has time to
create a Select Committee on a Green New Deal and support a serious
proposal that holds fossil fuel billionaires accountable and is based
on what science demands.”
“We
have yet to hear from leader Nancy Pelosi what the mandate of the
‘Select Committee on the Climate Crisis’ will be,” added
Prakash. “If what we’re hearing is true… then such a committee
will be even weaker than the one from a decade ago. This is not the
leadership this moment calls for.”
According
to the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC),
carbon emissions must be cut in half by 2030 if the world is to avert
catastrophe.
After
Pelosi’s announcement on Friday, critics argued once more that
Democrats must commit to pushing ahead with a bold climate plan that
matches the alarming scientific reality, not
just more hearings:

Thanks
to a groundswell of organizing and protests at the offices of key
congressional leaders like Pelosi and incoming
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), nearly
40 House Democrats have
expressed support for a Green New Deal Select Committee.
“By
developing a plan for a Green New Deal, we have an opportunity to
create millions of good-paying jobs, virtually eliminate poverty in
the United States, and invest in a just transition for communities
that have been left behind by racism and corporate greed,”
Prakash said.
But
in an interview with E&E
News last
week, Castor said that while Green New Deal proponents “have
some terrific ideas,” the bold proposal supported
by 81 percent of Americans will
not be the “sole focus” of the new Select Committee on the
Climate Crisis.
In
response, Justice Democrats asked,
“Your sole focus won’t be to propose solutions that match the
urgency and scale recommended by the U.N.’s IPCC climate report?”
