De EU heeft nogmaals laten zien dat het in feite schijt heeft aan mensenrechtenschendingen, door met dictators van de Arabische Liga te overleggen in het Egyptische Sharm-el Sheikh……. Tevens legitimeert de EU daarmee ook nog de Egyptische dictator al-Sisi, die zich onlangs voor de komende 35 jaar liet benoemen tot president van Egypte…… Dit alles terwijl de EU zich elders hysterisch druk maakt over ‘mensenrechtenschendingen’ in landen die niet de hielen van de EU en de VS likken en waar men zelfs het woord democratie misbruikt, als zaak die men met geweld wil brengen….. (mensenrechtenschendingen door zo’n bewind: veelal vermeende schendingen om zo’n bewind zwart te maken, zie: Honduras, Libië, Syrië en Venezuela)
De gesprekken gaan over de opvang van vluchtelingen zoals je in de kop al kon lezen, mensen die vluchten voor de terreur die het westen uitoefent en heeft uitgeoefend in Noord-Afrika en het Midden-Oosten…… Een veilig heenkomen voor vluchtelingen is in feite ook een mensenrecht, echter daar heeft de EU al helemaal niets mee, nee de vluchtelingen zijn zogenaamd een gevaar voor het westen, terwijl in een straatarm land als Libanon nog steeds 1 op de 4 inwoners een vluchteling is, zoals ik afgelopen weekeinde uit de mond van diverse Libanezen bevestigd kreeg…..
De EU schendt op grote schaal het VN vluchtelingenverdrag, eerder door het vermaledijde vluchtelingen verdrag te sluiten met Turkije en wil dit nog eens herhalen in Noord-Afrika…..
Opperschoft al-Sisi vindt het allemaal prachtig en hij stak zichzelf nog wat veren in de vieze reet……
Het is een grof schandaal dat het westen keer op keer illegale oorlogen begint en vervolgens de mensen die daarvoor op de vlucht gaan in de kou laten staan……

Turkije is ‘een mooi voorbeeld’ van wat de vluchtelingen in Noord-Afrika staat te wachten…… Ook hen zal men zo goedkoop mogelijk opsluiten en zoals Turkije proberen te voorkomen dat vluchtelingen het land binnenkomen, door al van ver op hen te schieten….. Of men zal als Turkije een groot aantal mensen weer de grens overjagen, rechtstreeks de dood in…… Je begrijpt natuurlijk wel dat deze ‘grap’ de EU burgers weer vele miljarden zal kosten, geld dat voor het overgrote deel in de zakken van de dictators als Erdogan van Turkije zal verdwijnen (en in de zakken van de kliek die zij normaal rond zich hebben)…….
Slachtoffers van deze smerige manier van handelen zijn de vluchtelingen zoals je al had begrepen…… Dan durft men zich in het westen ‘beschaaft’ te noemen….’ Walgelijk!!

Ten eerste vergeet Rutte dat de NAVO lidstaten zonder de VS (ondenkbaar daar de VS de werkelijke bevelvoerder is) al een wereldmacht vormen, een wereldmacht die terreur zaait in landen waar het niets te zoeken heeft…….
Ten tweede (er zat al een kleine verwijzing in het eerste punt) is een groot deel van Europa een echte wereldmacht, immers dat land is Rusland! Vreemd dan ook dat Rutte aanneemt dat Europa ophoudt waar de Russische grens begint, ach wat wil je van een flapdrol die nog bij z’n moeke woont…….
Ten derde: Rutte liegt met terugwerkende kracht, maar ja wat wil je, hij is nu eenmaal een professioneel leugenaar, immers eerder liet Rutte weten tegen het overdragen van meer taken aan de EU te zijn…… Me dunkt een leger is wel het ultieme overdragen van macht, waar na nog grotere machtstoename van de EU, men bij een onwillige staat het EU leger kan inzetten om ‘orde op zaken te stellen…..’
De EU moet meer power krijgen, aldus onzelfstandige kwibus Rutte, waarmee hij nogmaals aangeeft dat de EU veel meer macht moet krijgen, macht die ten koste zal gaan van het kleine beetje soevereiniteit dat landen als Nederland nu nog hebben, althans dat zal pas een punt worden als ons land ooit nog eens een echte, goede en eerlijke regering krijgt…….. (de kans daarop is nul komma nada…)
Voorlopig winnen de fascisten met elke verkiezing, niet alleen in Nederland, maar in de hele EU, alleen GB vorm een uitzondering……
Fascisten als Wilders schoppen nog wel tegen de EU, maar let op: als het fascisme echt de machtigste fractie in de EU zal zijn, is het zeker dat de fascisten de EU zullen omarmen als een ‘mooi werktuig’ om een nieuwe orde volgens de fascistische ideologie te vestigen (een oud ideaal van fascisten…)…..
Belachelijk ook dat Rutte de Turkije-deal een geweldige deal vindt, terwijl er amper zicht is op wat er allemaal fout gaat in de geheime vluchtelingenkampen* waar hele families vast zitten en aan de grenzen van Turkije, waar het leger en politie schieten op vluchtelingen die in de buurt van de grens komen, om ze zo weg te jagen, terug het oorlogsgebied in…… Over diezelfde grenzen zet Turkije overigens ook vluchtelingen (mensen) het land uit…….
Nee Rutte is zo tevreden over Turkije dat hij ook vluchtelingenkampen in Noord-Afrika wil inrichten, een plan waarvoor de fascisten applaudisseren…. Benieuwd hoeveel van de vluchtelingen die daar opgevangen zullen worden, terecht komen in een hel zoals die nu in Libië bestaat (voor vluchtelingen)……
Onbegrijpelijk dat men zo met lof spreekt over Rutte, immers het onzelfstandig ventje liegt makkelijker en sneller dan dat hij de waarheid spreekt. Daarnaast heeft de flapdrol laten zien dat hij een desastreus economisch beleid heeft gevoerd, waardoor een enorm aantal mensen werkloos werd en waarvan een heel groot deel nooit weer aan het werk zal komen…… Veel van hen worden niet (meer) meegerekend als werkloos, daar hun partner € 10,– teveel verdient, of omdat ze nu gepensioneerd zijn……
* Turkije heeft een paar modelkampen, waar EU politici af en aan te vinden zijn om te laten zien dat ze ‘echt wel om de vluchtelingen geven…..’ Echter een aantal andere vluchtelingenkampen liggen in onherbergzaam gebied, gebieden waar advocaten, mensenrechtenorganisaties, vluchtelingenorganisaties en buitenlandse politici al helemaal niet welkom zijn…… (om nog maar te zwijgen over de gigantische bak aan belastinggeld die deze deal heeft gekost >> 6 miljard euro……)
PS: onbegrijpelijk dat men een lezing naar oorlogsmisdadiger Churchill heeft vernoemd, een schoft die begin 20er jaren van de vorige eeuw nog gifgas liet inzetten tegen nomadenstammen in wat nu Irak wordt genoemd (bovendien hielp Churchill met het trekken van grenzen middels een liniaal, in o.a. het Midden-Oosten……. ‘Echt een eer als je op die lezing mag spreken…..’
Een staaltje smerige uitbuiterij waar je werkelijk schijtziek van wordt als je het leest: vluchtelingen die door ICE in een particuliere gevangenis worden opgesloten (!!), krijgen de kans om te werken en dat is gezien de prijzen die ze voor simpele levensbehoeften als tandpasta en deodorant geen overbodige luxe…… Probleem alleen is dat deze gevangenen per dag zegge en schrijve $ 1.– ontvangen…… Ter illustratie: een tube tandpasta van een paar dollar kost daar $ 11.– en een kleine deodorant stick $ 3.35, ofwel 11 dagen werk en 3,35 dagen voor respectievelijk de tandpasta en de deodorant……..
Het geteisem dat de firma runt die dit alles mogelijk maakt, vindt het verder normaal dat men van elektronisch overgemaakt geld door familieleden/vrienden, 10% inhoudt voor ‘administratiekosten…’
Nogmaals: het gaat hier om vluchtelingen die gevangen zijn gezet, volkomen ingaand tegen de mensenrechten en het VN Vluchtelingenverdrag……
Uiteraard ontkent de organisatie, Geo Group Inc (GEO.N), die de deze en andere gevangenissen ‘winstgevend’ moeten houden, dat de gevangen gehouden vluchtelingen zo onbeschoft en openlijk worden uitgebuit…..
Geo Group Inc. is een ronduit misdadige organisatie! (die zich scheel verdient aan het uitbuiten van slaven uh gevangenen…… Het is dan ook zaak dat er zoveel mogelijk mensen worden veroordeeld tot een gevangenisstraf….. In verhouding zitten er ook nog eens veel meer gekleurden in VS gevangenissen, terwijl deze groep in de VS nog steeds een minderheid is……

NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Detained in a California lockup with hundreds of other immigrants seeking asylum, Duglas Cruz faced a choice.

He could content himself with a jailhouse diet that he said left him perpetually hungry. Or he could labor in the prison’s kitchen to earn money to buy extra food at the commissary.
Cruz went to work. But his $1-a-day salary at the privately run Adelanto Detention Facility did not stretch far.
A can of commissary tuna sold for $3.25. That is more than four times the price at a Target store near the small desert town of Adelanto, about two hours northeast of Los Angeles. Cruz stuck with ramen noodles at 58 cents a package, double the Target price. A miniature deodorant stick, at $3.35 and more than three days’ wages, was an impossible luxury, he said.
“If I bought that there wouldn’t be enough money for food,” Cruz said.
Tuna and deodorant would seem minor worries for detainees such as Cruz. Now 25, he sought asylum after fleeing gangs trying to recruit him in his native Honduras, a place where saying “no” can mean execution.
But immigration attorneys say the pricey commissary goods are part of a broader strategy by private prisons to harness cheap inmate labor to lower operating costs and boost profits.
Immigrants and activists say facilities such as Adelanto, owned by Boca Raton, Fla.-based Geo Group Inc (GEO.N), the nation’s largest for-profit corrections company, deliberately skimp on essentials, even food, to coerce detainees to labor for pennies an hour to supplement meager rations.
Geo Group spokesperson Pablo Paez called those allegations “completely false.” He said detainees are given meals approved by dieticians, the labor program is strictly voluntary, and wage rates are federally mandated.
The company said Geo Group contracts with outside vendors to run its commissaries, whose prices “are in line with comparable local markets.” It also said Geo Group makes a “minimal commission” on commissary items, most of which goes into a “welfare fund” to purchase recreational equipment and other items for detainees.
Relatives can send money electronically to fund their loved ones’ commissary accounts, for fees that can reach as high as 10 percent of the amount deposited, some families report. But for many immigrant detainees, scrubbing toilets or mopping floors is the only way they say they can earn enough to stay clean and fed.
You “either work for a few cents an hour or live without basic things like soap, shampoo, deodorant and food,” detainee Wilhen Hill Barrientos, 67, said in a class-action lawsuit filed last year by the Southern Poverty Law Center against Nashville-based CoreCivic Inc (CXW.N), the nation’s second-largest for-profit prison operator. In the complaint, Barrientos said guards told him to “use his fingers” when he asked for toilet paper at the Stewart Detention Center, located in rural Lumpkin, Georgia.
Detainees are challenging what they say is an oppressive business model in which the companies deprive them of essentials to force them to work for sub-minimum wages, money that is soon recaptured in the firms’ own commissaries.
“These private prison companies are profiting off of what is essentially a company-store scenario,” said the SPLC’s Meredith Stewart, a lead attorney on the class action.
Immigrant rights groups have filed similar lawsuits against CoreCivic and Geo Group in California, Colorado, Texas and Washington.
Government watchdogs and lawmakers are taking notice too.
In November, 11 U.S. senators, including 2020 presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, sent letters to Geo Group and CoreCivic lambasting the “perverse profit incentive at the core of the private prison business,” which has benefited from a crackdown on illegal immigrants under U.S. President Donald Trump.
The senators cited a December 2017 report from the U.S. Office of the Inspector General documenting problems at lockups contracted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The inspector general found spoiled, moldy and expired food, and cited detainees’ complaints that hygiene products were “not provided promptly or at all,” the report said.
The lawmakers have demanded Geo Group and CoreCivic respond to allegations of detainee mistreatment.
Geo Group said a comprehensive, detailed response is underway. The company told Reuters that Geo Group has “already taken steps to remedy areas where our processes fell short of our commitment to high-quality care.”
CoreCivic spokeswoman Amanda Gilchrist said the company disagrees with the senators’ assertions, and that it provides “all daily needs” of detainees.
She said CoreCivic follows all federal standards for ICE-contracted facilities, including management of the outside vendors that run its commissaries, prices for commissary products, and fees charged to families for depositing funds into detainees’ commissary accounts.
BULL MARKET IN IMMIGRANT DETENTION
The U.S. for-profit prison industry has exploded over the past two decades. In 2016, 128,300 people – roughly 1 in 12 U.S. prisoners – were incarcerated in private lock-ups. That is an increase of 47 percent from 2000, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
Geo Group and CoreCivic together manage over half of U.S. private prison contracts, with combined revenues of nearly $4 billion in 2017. ICE is the No. 1 customer by revenue for both companies.
Trump’s immigration polices have been a boon for the industry, which spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on his election and inauguration. In fiscal 2019, the number of people in ICE detention has averaged 45,200 daily, according to agency spokesman Vincent Picard. That is up nearly 19 percent from fiscal 2017.
Both Geo Group and CoreCivic have added hundreds of immigration detention beds over the past year. Stock prices for the two companies are up about 30 percent since Trump’s election.
The government pays private prison companies fees ranging from roughly $60 to $130 daily for the care and feeding of each detainee.
At CoreCivic’s Stewart Detention Center in Georgia, which houses about 1,700 undocumented immigrants, ICE pays a per diem of $62.03 for each detainee housed there. CoreCivic’s revenue from Stewart alone was $38 million last year, court records show.
Detainee Barrientos, the lead lawsuit plaintiff, said in court documents he worked 7 days a week at the facility in order to purchase hygiene products and phone cards to call family members in Guatemala.
Those basics can add up. Reuters viewed a copy of the center’s commissary price list. It shows detainees are charged $11.02 for a 4 oz. tube of Sensodyne toothpaste, available on Amazon.com for $5.20.
Dove soap priced at $2.44 at the commissary is available for just over a dollar at Target. A 2.5 oz tube of Effergrip denture cream that sells for $4.99 at Walmart is $7.12 at the commissary.
Fees are pricey too. Vioney Gutierrez, a former detainee at Geo Group’s Adelanto facility in California, said 10 percent of the money her family spent to fund her commissary account was consumed by fees.
“When my daughter put in $40, I got $36,” said Gutierrez, 37. A native of Mexico, she said she spent six months at Adelanto in 2018 after asking for asylum at a port of entry. She is currently out on bond and staying with family in Oregon while she awaits the outcome of her deportation case.
Geo Group said its inmate commissary account services are provided by a third-party vendor, and that it does not profit from those transactions.
At Adelanto, Gutierrez said it cost $1 a minute to make calls to Mexico, and even more to places further afield, prices that keep many detainees from communicating with their families.
Geo Group said ICE contracts with a third-party telecom vendor and that the company plays “no role whatsoever in communications services.”
High commissary prices have long been a complaint of prison reformers. But for immigrant detainees, many of whom borrowed money or drained savings to reach the United States, the prices are particularly prohibitive.
Cruz, the Honduran detainee, spent eight months at Adelanto last year before an immigrant rights organization paid the $10,000 bond for his release. He is now in Texas awaiting the outcome of his case.
In his final months at Adelanto, Cruz said he resorted to bartering, trading shoes he wove out of plastic bags for ramen and cookies.

ellende voor de vluchtelingen in Libanese opvangkampen is niet meer
te overzien, nadat hun kampementen waren ondergelopen is de boel nu
bevroren door een ijskoude winterstorm…….
Volgens
het hieronder opgenomen artikel zijn er nog steeds meer dan één
miljoen Syrische vluchtelingen in Libanon, waar velen (rond de
miljoen, gezien de cijfers) konden terugkeren naar hun woonplaatsen, die door het
reguliere Syrische leger, Russen en Iraanse troepen werden bevrijd van door het westen gesteunde terreurgroepen (‘gematigde rebellen’)…..
De EU
heeft middels schoften als zijne PvdA kwaadaardigheid Timmermans
gemene zaak gemaakt met het Turkije van de psychopathische
reli-fascist Erdogan…… Met 6 miljard euro aan EU belastinggeld werd de verantwoordelijkheid

situatie in de meeste kampen is desastreus, het ontbreekt er veelal zelfs aan eerste levensbehoeften, kampen in onherbergzame
gebieden, waar advocaten, mensenrechtenorganisaties en andere
hulpverleningsinstanties niet welkom zijn…..* In 2013 gaf de EU
al eens 3 miljard euro aan Turkije om de situatie in de kampen te
verbeteren, het meeste van het geld verdween in de zakken van de
Erdogan kliek…… Verder stuurt Turkije vluchtelingen terug,
rechtstreeks het oorlogsgebied in…..
Middels
deze deal heeft de EU zoals gezegd haar kwade geweten gesust,
vluchtelingen die met de Turkije-deal zouden worden opgenomen door de
EU-lidstaten, wachten daar voor het grootste deel nog steeds op en ook
Nederland laat grotendeels afweten……. ‘Niet vreemd’ dus dat men verder
praktisch niets doet voor vluchtelingen elders, zoals die in Libanon
en Jordanië…..
Nee, sterker nog dan het voorgaande: de EU steunt nog steeds de
agressie van de VS, de verantwoordelijke voor de situatie in Syrië, Irak, Afghanistan en Libië……. Waar de oorlog in Syrië in feite door de VS en een aantal hielenlikkers van terreurorganisatie NAVO, al in 2006 werd voorbereid als opstand, waarna het
volk Assad af zou zetten en de VS een marionet als dictator kon
installeren (althans dat was het mislukte plan)…….. Zoals we nu weten is deze ‘opstand’ (zoals gezegd) uitgemond in
een oorlog, waardoor de vluchtelingenstromen opgang zijn gekomen…….
Vergeet verder niet dat de zogenaamde gematigde terreurgroepen ook nog eens door het westen (o.a. Nederland) zijn gesteund en sommige terreurgroepen zoals IS zelfs mede werden opgezet door de VS en Saoedi-Arabië…….

out at home in 2011, and UN agencies say most live of them live in
poverty.
“There
is almost half a metre of water on the ground and in the tents …
the war in Syria forced us into this situation,” said Hussein
Zeidan who came to Lebanon from Homs in Syria in 2011.
He
lives in a makeshift camp near a river in north Lebanon’s Akkar
region. He and some of its other residents said the storm had left
them and their children with no clothes, furniture or food.
Families
were moving around in search of dryness and warmth.
“Water
flooded us in the camp: me and my children. Our situation is bad …
God bless our neighbours, they welcomed us in yesterday night. Today,
water flooded them so we came here, as you can see, to this
half-built house with no windows or doors,” Ghazwan Zeidan, who has
three children, said in Akkar.
The
UN refugee agency said on Tuesday that the storm had completely
flooded or collapsed 15 informal settlements out of at least 66 that
were “heavily impacted”.
In
the Bekaa valley in east Lebanon, the cold temperatures have also
brought snow.
Abu
Shahid, who fled Hasaka in Syria three years ago with his family,
stood in flooded water in an informal camp in Bar Elias village. He
described how his tent had completely submerged, damaging all his
family’s belongings.
“The
only solution is to leave our things and move, run away with our
lives … Water is everywhere, where do we go?,” he said. The
previous night, he and his wife and two children had slept in a
neighbour’s tent that was less damaged by the floods.
For
19-year-old Hamed Haj Abu and his relatives, the night was cold and
wet.
“We
did not sleep all night. Some were sleeping for an hour, others were
waking up. Water was coming on us, in the tent, from everywhere,”
he said in Bar Elias.
“My
brother and his family first came to us, they are living nearby. We
all did not sleep, we left the tent all together, we can’t sit,
look, water is flooding, we can’t sleep on water.”

M. Arkin, een bekroond journalist van NBC, verlaat deze zender uit
frustratie over het redactionele beleid, waarmee oorlogsvoering uit en te na wordt
verdedigd en waar kritiek op dit oorlogvoeren op z’n zachtst gezegd,
niet wordt geaccepteerd.
Caitlin
Johnstone schreef een artikel over het vertrek van Arkin en de
redenen die hij daarvoor heeft gegeven, zij stelt volkomen terecht
dat deze houding van NBC overal te vinden is in de reguliere
massamedia van de VS. Waar ik aan toe zou willen voegen dat dit voor
de hele westerse reguliere media geldt, waar men middels ‘fake news’ en andere desinformatie de westerse illegale oorlogsvoering in het Midden-Oosten en (Noord-) Afrika verdedigt. Deze houding heeft desastreuze gevolgen…….
Neem
alleen al het zogenaamde vluchtelingenprobleem, een probleem dat door
de VS en haar NAVO partners is veroorzaakt middels het voeren van die illegale
oorlogen, waar dezelfde reguliere massamedia deze illegale oorlogen verdedigen en het
argument dat het westen zelf verantwoordelijk is voor dit ‘vluchtelingenprobleem’, afdoen als kul en
desinformatie, terwijl de bewijzen toch echt overweldigend zijn…… Kortom: deze media gebruiken precies datgene waar ze degenen van beschuldigen die stellen dat deze illegale oorlogen vluchtelingenstromen opgang brengen: het gebruik van nepnieuws en andere desinformatie….
Men
slaat niet voor niets op de vlucht als je ziet dat in de illegale
oorlogen die de VS met hulp van andere NAVO partners (waaronder Nederland) is begonnen, alleen deze eeuw al 2,5 miljoen mensen zijn vermoord en landen als Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië in puin zijn gebombardeerd….. Waarbij de eerste 3 landen in grote chaos verkeren…… Echter het Nederlandse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken ziet het anders en middels haar falende en valse ambtsberichten stelt dit ministerie dat deze landen veilig zijn voor de vluchtelingen, waar Libië voor BuZa nog een uitzondering is, zelfs het ministerie kan niet met droge ogen beweren dat daar alles pais en vree is……* Wat betreft vluchtelingen ui Libie, die zijn er niet veel ondanks dat dit land onevenredig hard is getroffen door westerse terreur….
In totaal zouden sinds 2011 een aantal van 5.400 Libiërs het land zijn ontvlucht (waaronder een groot aantal Toearegs, die onder Khadaffi deel uitmaakten van het leger en die na hun vlucht in Mali de boel op de kop hebben gezet), voorts zouden er meer dan 300.000 mensen ontheemd zijn in eigen land (lijkt me een veel te laag aantal)……. Te vrezen valt dan ook dat de oorlogsheren in Libië het achtergebleven volk dermate goed weten te controleren, dat vluchten een hachelijke zaak is……. Het voorgaande zegt dan ook voldoende over de vluchtelingen die uit de rest van Afrika komen en die vanaf Libië de oversteek naar Europa wagen, ofwel diezelfde oorlogsheren beheersen zelfs deze vluchtelingstromen……

Quits NBC Citing Network’s Support for Endless War
(CJ Opinion) — A
journalist with NBC has resigned from the network with a statement
which highlights the immense resistance that ostensibly liberal mass
media outlets have to antiwar narratives, skepticism of US military
agendas, and any movement in the opposite direction of endless
military expansionism.
“January
4 is my last day at NBC News and I’d like to say goodbye to my
friends, hopefully not for good,” begins an email titled ‘My
goodbye letter to NBC’ sent to various contacts by William M Arkin,
an award-winning
journalist who
has been associated with the network for 30 years.
“This
isn’t the first time I’ve left NBC, but this time the parting is
more bittersweet, the world and the state of journalism in tandem
crisis,” the email continues. “My expertise, though seeming to be
all the more central to the challenges and dangers we face, also
seems to be less valued at the moment. And I find myself completely
out of synch with the network, being neither a day-to-day reporter
nor interested in the Trump circus.”
The lengthy
email covers
details about Arkin’s relationship with NBC and its staff, his
opinions about the mainstream media’s refusal to adequately
scrutinize and criticize the US war machine’s spectacular failures
in the Middle East, how he “argued endlessly with MSNBC about all
things national security for years”, the fact that his position as
a civilian military analyst was unusual and “peculiar” in a media
environment where that role is normally dominated by “THE GENERALS
and former government officials,” and how he was “one of the few
to report that there weren’t any WMD in Iraq” and remembers
“fondly presenting that conclusion to an incredulous NBC editorial
board.”
“A
scholar at heart, I also found myself an often lone voice that was
anti-nuclear and even anti-military, anti-military for me meaning
opinionated but also highly knowledgeable, somewhat akin to a movie
critic, loving my subject but also not shy about making judgements
regarding the flops and the losers,” he writes.
Arkin
makes clear that NBC is in no way the sole mass media offender in its
refusal to question or criticize the normalization of endless
warfare, but that he feels increasingly “out of sync” and “out
of step” with the network’s unhesitating advancement of military
interventionist narratives. He writes about how Robert Windrem, NBC
News’ chief investigative producer, convinced him to join a new
investigative unit in the early days of the 2016 presidential race.
Arkin writes the following about his experience with the unit:
“I
thought that the mission was to break through the machine of
perpetual war acceptance and conventional wisdom to challenge Hillary
Clinton’s hawkishness. It was also an interesting moment at NBC
because everyone was looking over their shoulder at Vice and other
upstarts creeping up on the mainstream. But then Trump got elected
and Investigations got sucked into the tweeting vortex, increasingly
lost in a directionless adrenaline rush, the national security and
political version of leading the broadcast with every snow storm. And
I would assert that in many ways NBC just began emulating the
national security state itself — busy and profitable. No wars
won but the ball is kept in play.
“I’d
argue that under Trump, the national security establishment not only
hasn’t missed a beat but indeed has gained dangerous strength. Now
it is ever more autonomous and practically impervious to criticism.
I’d also argue, ever so gingerly, that NBC has become somewhat lost
in its own verve, proxies of boring moderation and conventional
wisdom, defender of the government against Trump, cheerleader for
open and subtle threat mongering, in love with procedure and protocol
over all else (including results). I accept that there’s a lot to
report here, but I’m more worried about how much we are missing.
Hence my desire to take a step back and think why so little changes
with regard to America’s wars.”
Arkin
is no fan of Trump, calling him “an ignorant and incompetent
impostor,” but describes his shock at NBC’s reflexive opposition
to the president’s “bumbling intuitions” to get along with
Russia, to denuclearize North Korea, to get out of the Middle East,
and his questioning of the US military’s involvement in Africa.
“I’m
alarmed at how quick NBC is to mechanically argue the contrary, to be
in favor of policies that just spell more conflict and more war.
Really? We shouldn’t get out Syria? We shouldn’t go for the bold
move of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula? Even on Russia, though
we should be concerned about the brittleness of our democracy that it
is so vulnerable to manipulation, do we really yearn for the Cold
War? And don’t even get me started with the FBI: What? We now
lionize this historically destructive institution?”
“There’s
a saying about consultants, that organizations hire them to hear
exactly what they want to hear,” Arkin writes in the conclusion of
his statement. “ I’m proud to say that NBC didn’t do that when
it came to me. Similarly I can say that I’m proud that I’m not
guilty of giving my employers what they wanted. Still, the things
this and most organizations fear most — variability,
disturbance, difference — those things that are also the
primary drivers of creativity — are not really the things that
I see valued in the reporting ranks.”
That’s
about as charitably as it could possibly be said by a skeptical
tongue. Another way to say it would be that plutocrat-controlled and
government-enmeshed media networks hire reporters to protect the
warmongering oligarchic status quo upon which media-controlling
plutocrats have built their respective kingdoms, and foster an
environment which elevates those who promote establishment-friendly
narratives while marginalizing and pressuring anyone who doesn’t.
It’s absolutely bizarre that it should be unusual for there to be a
civilian analyst of the US war machine’s behaviors in the
mainstream media who is skeptical of its failed policies and nonstop
bloodshed, and it’s a crime that such voices are barely holding on
to the fringes of the media stage. Such analysts should be extremely
normal and commonplace, not rare and made to feel as though they
don’t belong.

Het woord deportatie is dan ook besmet geraakt na WOII, daar het woord werd gebruikt voor deportaties van Joden naar de nazi-vernietigingskampen tijdens die oorlog…..
Een paar jaar geleden deed men hetzelfde in Nederland, alsof we een natie waren die zich met hand en tand verzette tegen de deportatie van Nederlanders die als Jood, Roma, Sinti of homo bekend stonden…… Nederland was juist het land waaruit relatief het meeste aantal van deze mensen werden gedeporteerd naar de dodenkampen, dit met behulp van onze politie en de NS……
Het woord deportatie is juist nu weer geheel van toepassing, gezien het haat en angstzaaien tegen/voor vluchtelingen…… Haat- en angstzaaierij door in eerste instantie fascistische bewegingen/partijen in de EU, die een steeds grotere kiezersaanhang weten te winnen met hun smerige leugens…..
Sterker nog, zelfs partijen als het CDA (en uiteraard de VVD) nemen fascistoïde ideeën over in de angst anders kiezers te verliezen…… Het is al zo zot, dat een partij als de Hongaarse Fidesz (van de corrupte autocratische fascist Orbán) gewoon deel kan blijven uitmaken van de EU fractie EVP, dezelfde fractie waarin het CDA zitting heeft…… Het maakt niet uit wat men flikt in Hongarije, de EVP belooft keer op keer onderzoek te doen naar die partij, zodat deze eventueel uit de fractie kan worden gezet, echter daar blijft het dan ook bij >> woorden……
Beste bezoeker, vergeet niet dat de grote vluchtelingenstromen van de laatste decennia vooral op gang zijn gekomen door grootscheepse westerse terreur in de vorm van vooral illegale oorlogen in de landen waar deze mensen wonen en waar dat westen niets, maar dan ook helemaal niets te zoeken heeft….. Nog een kleine ‘maar’ bij deze vaststelling: Turkije neemt al bijna geen vluchtelingen meer op, men schiet zelfs over de grens heen als men daar vluchtelingen in ‘het vizier krijgt…’ (uiteraard niet voor draaiende camera’s) Daarbovenop stuurt Turkije mensen zelfs terug, regelrecht het oorlogsgebied in…………….
Ook doen die media mee in het demoniseren van vluchtelingen en worden de illegale oorlogen die het westen o.l.v. de VS in het Midden-Oosten voert als onvermijdelijk voorgesteld, terwijl het hier om het veiligstellen van westerse belangen gaat, waarbij het westen zoals gezegd enorme terreur uitoefent op de betreffende bevolkingen…….. Sterker nog: deze media durven als de fascisten van de PVV en de neoliberale (fascistoïde) partijen als de VVD, D66, PvdA en CDA te stellen dat de vluchtelingenstromen opgang komen door andere oorzaken…….. Afgelopen
zaterdag was het de 7de week dat de Gele Hesjes in Frankrijk
demonstreerden, het gebeurde werd verzwegen door landelijke radiozenders van Duitsland,
Nederland, België en Groot-Brittannië, zoals dit ook een week eerder gebeurde…..*
Honderden
Gele Hesjes verzamelden zich voor het gebouw van het Franse BFM TV, een tv zender die als andere mediaorganen expres de aantallen demonstranten te laag weergeven, zeg maar
zoals de landelijke radiostations buiten Frankrijk de demonstraties
‘gewoon’ doodzwijgen……. Veronderstel dat bijvoorbeeld de
bevolking van Nederland ontwaakt uit de consucoma, daarna de
hersenspoelstand van de media uitschakelt en ziet hoe men dag in dag
uit wordt bedonderd door Rutte 3, het kabinet van de enorme
leugenaar en bedrieger Rutte, ‘onze premier’, die behoort tot misdadigers partij VVD……. ‘Je
moet er niet aan denken….. ‘
Gebeurde
dat maar, een zelfde verzet in Nederland, immers de ellende onder de grote onderlaag in ons land is groot
en de bevolking wordt tegen elkaar opgezet, jong tegen oud, wit tegen

Gisteren had men in dezelfde aangehaalde nationale radiostations wel aandacht voor de Gele Hesjes, daar de viering van het nieuwe jaar in Parijs ‘in gevaar dreigde te komen’, met de aankondiging dat de Gele Hesjes ook daar wilden protesteren. Het nieuws meldde dat de Franse politie een groot deel van Parijs heeft afgesloten, waarbij iedereen die dit gebied wilde betreden aan de tand zou worden gevoeld door de politie, inclusief fouillering….

of Yellow Vest protesters gathered outside France’s BFM TV station
for week seven of nationwide protests.
The
protesters chanted various versions of “Fake news journalists come
down,” and “Macron out!” at the TV station which one protester
told RT

false information about the movement, while purposefully understating
the size of its demonstrations.
Saturday’s
protesters were met with tear gas and a heavy police presence, which
has become part and parcel to the violent demonstrations of weeks
past.
Police
fired tear gas at “yellow vest” demonstrators in Paris on
Saturday but the turnout for round seven of the popular protests that
have rocked France appeared low.
Several
hundred people wearing the symbolic hi-visibility vests had gathered
near the offices of France Televisions and the BFM TV channel in the
centre of the capital shouting “Fake news” and calling for the
resignation of President Emmanuel Macron. – France24

reportedly torched several cars next to the TV station, with the
smoke visible against the Eiffel Tower.

Thursday a group of Yellow Vest demonstrators attempted to storm
French President Emmanuel Macron’s summer retreat, though it is
unclear if he was present at the time. Macron came under fire for a
$39,000 swimming pool he had installed at the coastal fort.
The
Yellow Vest protests began over a planned fuel-price hikes linked to
climate change measures, however they soon evolved into a general
protest against the Macron government.
While
the fuel hikes were temporarily postponed for six months, protesters
continue to call for Macron’s resignation.
Weer
eens een staaltje ongelofelijk maar waar: de 15 activisten die op 28
maart 2017 verhinderden dat een vliegtuig voor deportatie van
vluchtelingen kon opstijgen van de Britse luchthaven Stansted, zijn aangeklaagd voor terrorisme…… De Stansted 15, zoals deze mensenrechtenactivisten sindsdien worden genoemd, zijn mensen uit 3 verschillende vreedzame actiegroepen, t.w.: End Deportations, Plane Stupid en Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants.
De
Stansted 15 hebben
geen geweld gebruikt en blijkbaar vindt men een dergelijke geweldloze actie in Groot-Brittannië een daad van terreur……. Waar deze groep zou moeten worden geprezen voor de juiste, niet gewelddadige inzet!
De deportaties vinden plaats zonder enig toezicht van mensenrechtenorganisaties en te vrezen valt dat mensen met grof geweld worden uitgezet, zeker gezien de voorbeelden uit het verleden (overigens ook door onze overheid….). De veiligheidsbeambten die de vluchtelingen vanuit GB begeleiden staan bekend om het gebruik van grof geweld…… Om de publieke opinie niet tegen zich te krijgen zorgt de Britse overheid ervoor dat de deportaties van vluchtelingen altijd midden in de nacht plaatsvinden…….
Niet alleen in Groot-Brittannië, maar overal
worden de strafeisen en straffen van dit soort activisme opgeschroefd, echter dit slaat wel alles van wat we hebben meegemaakt, althans in de westerse wereld………
Te vrezen valt dan ook dat na het uitspreken van de straf op 4
februari 2019, men ook elders nog zwaarder zal gaan straffen…….
Het zal
toeval zijn, maar het is wel opvallend dat de strafeis tegen de Stansted 15 net na het meer dan lamme overleg in Marrakech over ‘de vluchtelingencrisis’werd
uitgesproken, een overleg wat leidde tot het volkomen overbodige Marrakech pact…… Een pact waar geen rechten aan kunnen worden ontleend, maar
waarbij men weer eens publiekelijk de handen in het bloed van
duizenden omgekomen vluchtelingen heeft gewassen…….
Daar er in het Marrakech pact een aantal keren werd gesproken over het tegengaan van vluchtelingenstromen, is de kans levensgroot dat regeringen zich achter dit pact zullen verschuilen, als zij weigeren vluchtelingen op te nemen……..
Nergens in het Marrakech pact wordt gesproken over het tegengaan van vluchtelingenstromen, door westerse landen te veroordelen die illegaal oorlog voeren tegen landen in het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika, oorlogen geleid door de VS met hulp van haar NAVO partners, waar de VS in feite het opperbevel heeft over diezelfde NAVO……..
Intussen
stuurt men mensen terug die grote kans lopen vermoord te worden,
zoals een lesbische vrouw, wiens man al heeft gezegd haar te zullen
opwachten na deportatie, hoogstwaarschijnlijk om haar te
vermoorden……… Om nog maar te zwijgen over de vluchtelingen die teruggestuurd worden naar Afghanistan en Irak, omdat Buitenlandse Zaken met rammelende rapporten (ambtsberichten) komt die stellen dat men veilig is in die landen…….
De verantwoordelijken voor illegale oorlogen die vluchtelingenstromen op gang brachten en brengen, die bovendien het gore lef hebben vluchtelingen te weigeren, zouden terecht moeten staan wegens ernstige mensenrechtenschendingen
en het moedwillig in levensgevaar brengen van mensen…….. Verantwoordelijken van landen die in feite direct schuldig zijn aan de dood van de vele duizenden die in de Middellandse Zee en de Egeïsche Zee zijn verdronken! Zoals je al had begrepen zijn de verantwoordelijken voor de enorme vluchtelingenstromen de VS en andere NAVO-lidstaten (inclusief Turkije), met hulp van Saoedi-Arabië, de Golfstaten, Egypte en Marokko.
De hoogste tijd dat het Internationaal Strafhof wordt uitgebreid en zich meer gaat roeren in de media met beschuldigingen aan het adres van bijvoorbeeld de VS en de andere NAVO-lidstaten!
Hoe is het mogelijk dat mensen die zich inzetten voor mensenrechten en die de dood van vluchtelingen willen voorkomen, worden aangeklaagd door het Britse openbaar ministerie, een ministerie dat tegelijkertijd geen actie onderneemt tegen het elders illegaal oorlogvoeren (één van de ergste vormen van terreur!) door haar eigen overheid, waardoor alleen deze eeuw al 2,5 miljoen mensen zijn vermoord…….

WHO STOPPED DEPORTATION FLIGHT CONVICTED OF TERRORISM CHARGE, FACE
LIFE IN PRISON
United
Kingdom (NM) – A
group of 15 activists who prevented a deportation charter flight from
leaving Stansted airport by locking themselves together around the
aeroplane have been found guilty of a terrorist offence.
The
so-called Stansted 15 spent nine weeks on trial charged with an
offence that has never been used before in response to a non-violent
direct action and carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
They
were convicted by a jury at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday 10
December and will be sentenced on 4 February 2019.
Ben
Smoke, who was arrested after being cut away from the front wheel of
the aeroplane, said the guilty verdict would have “huge
ramifications on the ability of people to engage in what is a very
long tradition of direct action in this country”.
The
27-year-old told Novara Media:
“I’m
obviously terrified for myself, terrified for what the future holds,
but more than that I’m terrified about how we carry on fighting a
government that just won’t listen, how we carry on fighting a
government that has been proven to be so disgusting and despicable
every way you turn.
“You
look at the UN report that came out recently that said that austerity
is a choice, they have made a choice to kill 120,000 people, if we’re
in a situation where we can’t fight that how do we go on? How do we
carry on? How do we change our society?”
The
activists, from campaign group End
Deportations,
were originally charged with criminal damage and aggravated trespass
after the action on 28 March 2017, offences too small to warrant
trial by jury and carrying a maximum of just three months in prison.
The prosecution later sought special permission to add an additional
charge of “endangering safety at an aerodrome”, a terrorism
offence created in response to the 1988
Lockerbie bombing,
in which 270 people died.
They
stood accused of putting the safety of the airport and passengers at
risk and causing serious disruption to international air travel for
taking part in the non-violent direct action, in a move Amnesty
International described as
“using a sledgehammer to crack a nut”. The human rights
organisation, which observed the trial for its duration, was
concerned that the severe and unprecedented charge may have been
brought in order to discourage other activists from taking
non-violent direct action in defence of human rights.
Labour’s
Shadow Attorney General Shami Chakrabarti condemned the verdict on
Monday, pointing out that it coincided with the 70th anniversary
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“What
a sad International Human Rights day, when non-violent protestors are
prosecuted for defending the Refugee Convention, and are treated like
terrorists,” she said . “Labour in Government will review the
statute book to better guarantee the right to peaceful dissent.”

The #Stansted15 have been convicted under terror-related legislation – for preventing an unjust and barely legal deportation flight.
Smoke
said he believed the verdict could violate “the contract of
our democracy” by obstructing channels that should be available for
everyone to demand change.
He
referenced the harsh sentences given to the suffragettes when they
used direct action to challenge laws preventing women from voting in
the early 20th century and said he feared the outcome of the Stansted
15 trial would have the same deterrent effect. “These people
are people who were denigrated at the time and now are being heralded
as heroes,” he said. “I’m not for a second trying to put us in
that category but what they then experienced… imprisonment and
being force fed, really, really meant that it became a harder thing
to do to take a direct action to try and change the society you live
in and to try and make society better… that’s what I’m
terrified of seeing coming out of this action.”
Wearing
pink bobble hats, hi-vis vests and jumpers emblazoned with the words
“mass deportations kill, no one is illegal”, the coalition of
activists from End Deportations, Plane
Stupid and Lesbians
and Gays Support the Migrants,
chained themselves to a plane set to deport 60 people to West Africa
on 28 March 2017 and stopped it from taking off.
In
protesting against the injustices of the UK border and immigration
system, the group focused their efforts specifically on the issue of
mass deportation charter flights on account of the flights being the
hardest form of deportation to individually resist. End Deportations
campaigners argue
that the flights were
introduced by the government for that very reason.
Activist
Helen Brewer explained that the group spent months considering
the best and safest way to blockade the flight. “After coaches
arrive from detention centres they go into a private car park,” she
said, “then you have the crew coming down from their hangar to
ready the plane. So [we knew we had to act] before the coaches drive
from the car park to the plane to board people… So that’s what we
did.”
Strategically,
Brewer said, it made sense to target the aeroplane itself because
people may be taken from all over the country to be deported on a
charter flight, “but there’s only one plane”.
Deportations
used to take place on regular commercial flights. But when passengers
and pilots started to object on moral and political grounds, the Home
Office changed tack and begun chartering deportee-only planes.
Shrouded
in secrecy, these planes leave from undisclosed locations in the
middle of the night. By doing this, they are more insulated from
public opinion and the kind of reputational pressures that
caused Virgin
Airlines to announce it
would no longer assist the Home Office with forced deportations.
Notorious
for their violence,
the only people on the flights are deportees and security guards.
With no independent monitoring or documentation of what takes place
on the way to the airport, during the flight or after landing, deaths
in transitare not unknown.
At
the heart of the group’s decision to take action was the desire to
protect vulnerable people from the myriad violences of the UK border
regime.
In
her closing statement, Mel Evans, one of the defendants who
represented herself throughout the trial, said about the action:
“This
was never about politics. It was always about people. We wanted
people to be safe… And now some of them are safe, and they’re
able to be with their families and be with the people they love. And
that’s all we were trying to do.”
One
manifestation of this violence is in the way the flights themselves
are enacted. Chains and restraints are commonly used to subdue
passengers, sometimes even fatally. In 2010, 46-year-old Jimmy
Mubenga died of suffocation after
being pinned down in his seat by G4S security guards, despite already
being handcuffed from behind with his seatbelt on.
Beyond
the immediate danger of being on the plane, there is also the issue
of the potential further violence awaiting passengers when they
arrive in the country they are being deported to. Addressing the
jury, Evans read the testimony of one of the passengers on the
flight:
“[There]
was a lesbian woman who was terrified of what would happen if she saw
her ex-husband: ‘[He] said he knows I am being deported next week.
He is waiting for me. He is planning to kill me. I don’t want to go
on that plane. I can’t go. I am begging.’”
But
this is far from an isolated incident. According to Brewer, “a
deportation happened on Tuesday to Nigeria and Ghana. This was one
flight we stopped out of thousands.” Using this logic, each of
these individual acts of violence is connected – part of what Luke
de Noronha, aspokesperson
for the End Deportations campaign, described
as “the
architecture of racialised border violence”.
‘WITHOUT
THEIR ACTIONS I WOULD HAVE MISSED MY DAUGHTER’S BIRTH’
Out
of the 60 people set to be deported on the flight, 11 are still in
the UK as a result of the action. Two out of those 11 now have
indefinite leave to remain and four have been referred to the
National Referral Unit For Human Trafficking. Five are still waiting
for their appeals to be heard.
Kevin*,
one of the passengers on the flight, was set to be deported to Ghana
where he lived up until his late teens. He has since been
granted leave to remain.
As
a young child, Kevin was left in the care of his abusive father after
his mother moved to England, but once he had finished school in the
mid 2000s, he was finally able to join her in London.
In
the UK he successfully applied for indefinite leave to remain.
However, this was revoked after he received a criminal conviction. As
a result of the loss of his immigration status, he faced deportation
and with it, the prospect of being forced to leave behind his
elderly mother, pregnant partner and children.
For
Kevin, the impact of the action was life-changing. He said:
“For
me a crime is doing something that is evil, shameful or just wrong –
and it’s clear that it is the actions of the Home Office that tick
all of these boxes. The Stansted 15 were trying to stop the real
crime being committed.
“Without
their actions I would have missed my daughter’s birth, and faced
the utter injustice of being deported from this country without
having my [now successful] appeal heard.
“My
message to them today is to fight on. Your cause is just and history
will absolve you of the guilt that the system has marked you with.”
Indeed,
current government policy is widely known as ‘deport first, appeal
later’. An asylum decision-maker for the Home Office
recently described
the process as
a “lottery” in which “pushy managers [tried to drive] results
through fear and intimidation.”
‘EVERYDAY
IS A FIGHT IN THE COURTROOM’
The
nine week trial began on 1 October 2018 at Chelmsford Crown Court in
Essex, during which seven of the 15 gave evidence. Despite
allowing the defendants to give their political reasons for the
action during the trial, Judge
Christopher Morgan ruled that
they could not rely on the defence that they acted to stop human
rights abuses. However, one of the lawyers for the defence, Mr
Wainwright, described
them as
having “a real and genuine concern for the sanctity of human life”.
Throughout
the trial, the prosecution repeatedly deployed anti-immigration
rhetoric in
discussing the case. A “fence” became “a protective membrane”
– there to stop unknown foreign bodies from passing through. While,
in his closing speech, lawyer for the prosecution Tony Badenoch QC
repeatedly referred to the activists as a “swarm” – a
denigrative metaphor routinely deployed by right
wing media and politicians in
the migration debate.
Listening
to the prosecution without being able to defend themselves was a
constant source of frustration for the group. Speaking to Novara
Media shortly before the trial ended, Brewer said:
“We
have to be in court usually from ten until four everyday, in a
windowless courtroom, under fluorescent lights, sitting silently in
the dock. [We] can’t speak except through [our] barristers and [we]
have to listen to someone talk about [us] and…what we did and
interrogate that and really smear that and present to the jury
something that most of us completely disagree with. It’s hard. And
it’s hard when you’re constantly battling; everyday is a fight in
the courtroom.”
Following
Morgan’s summing up on 4 December, the
Guardian has
reported that barristers defending the 15 argued the jury should be
discharged because the judge’s final words were so severe they
amounted to a direction to convict.
The
length of the trial, combined with the threat of life in prison, has
had a negative impact on the mental and emotional health of the
group.
Activist
Laura Clayson said she had been prescribed anti-anxiety medication as
a result of the stress of the trial. “Given that it’s been
nearly 19 months since we took action, 15 since the charge was
escalated to endangerment, and we have only just come out the other
side of the trial, I haven’t even begun to be able to start
processing or unpacking it,” she said. “Living with such
uncertainty and precarity makes life incredibly difficult and it has
been hard to function normally, to think ahead or plan anything. The
trial has always been there, looming over us.”

The
15 activists intend to fight the conviction. In a statement released
after the verdict was announced the group said:
“We
are guilty of nothing more than intervening to prevent harm. The real
crime is the government’s cowardly, inhumane and barely legal
deportation flights and the unprecedented use of terror law to crack
down on peaceful protest. We must challenge this shocking use of
draconian legislation, and continue to demand an immediate end to
these secretive deportation charter flights and a full
independent public inquiry into the government’s ‘hostile
environment’.”
“Justice
will not be done until we are exonerated and the Home Office is held
to account for the danger it puts people in every single day. It
endangers people in dawn raids on their homes, at detention centres
and on these brutal flights. The system is out of control. It is
unfair, unjust and unlawful and it must be stopped.”
The
guilty verdict marks a huge blow to the landscape of UK activism at a
time when there has been a concerted effort to clamp down on the
right to protest. From today’s guilty verdict, which itself was
only made possible by the use of an unprecedented terrorism charge,
to the jailing of the so-called Frack
Free Fourearlier
in the year, the future of non-violent direct action in the UK
is far from certain.
Kate
Allen, Amnesty International UK’s Director said:
“It’s
deeply disturbing that peaceful protesters who caused disruption but
at no time caused harm to anyone, should now be facing a possible
lengthy prison sentence. This whole case will send a shiver down the
spine of anyone who cares about the right to protest in our country.
Around the world, human rights defenders are coming under increasing
attack. The UK should not be bringing such severe charges against
those who seek to peacefully stand up for human rights.”
Meanwhile,
the End Deportations campaign will continue its fight to abolish
deportations and detention centres and end the violence of the UK
border regime.
In
November, women in Yarl’s Wood detention centre again went
on hunger
strike to
protest against their indefinite detention, describing the experience
of living in Britain’s only female detention centre as a form of
“hell”. It is clear that activists like the Stansted 15 are vital
in resisting the UK border regime alongside those who feel the full
force of its violence.

Vergeet
niet dat sinds het jaar 2000 er al meer dan 2,5 miljoen mensen zijn
vermoord middels VS en NAVO agressie in het Midden-Oosten en Libië,

US
Commanders Seek Military Escalation in Afghanistan
(ANTIWAR.COM) — Increasingly
resigned to the reality that the US simply isn’t going to stumble
into a military victory in Afghanistan, US military commanders are
looking to redouble their efforts. The goal now is to not just kill
people, but “shape
the political environment” ahead
of negotiations.
Officials
now see their goal increasingly as bolstering America’s bargaining
position in inevitable negotiations with the Taliban. Their tactics
for this are, unfortunately, further escalation of the raids and
airstrikes that failed to win the war in the first place.
“You
turn the dial up,” Gen. Miller said of the US intentions now that
they think the Taliban are willing to negotiate. The assumption is
that the Taliban will want an end to the war and start making
concessions to avoid further US escalations.
Yet
this ignores the entire 17+ year history of the war, in which the
Taliban has always been content to wait out US surges, particularly
those that seem extremely temporary, and continue to amass gains
where they can.
