Schaatser Jan Blokhuijsen had volkomen terecht wel het lef het vreselijke lot van een enorm aantal
honden in Korea in het openbaar te noemen. Alsof het niet al walgelijk genoeg is
honden en katten te eten, worden deze nog gruwelijker gehouden, dan de dieren hier in de intensieve martelveehouderij…… Het ‘best’ is hun lot te
vergelijken met konijnen in deze veehouderij, al worden die zelfs nog beter behandeld dan
honden en katten in Zuid-Korea (China en Indonesië).
Ongelofelijk
dat Blokhuijsen zich zo onder druk heeft laten zetten (o.a. door het
IOC) dat hij later godbetert tot 2 keer toe zijn excuus voor zijn
opmerking maakte……
Ongelofelijk
ook dat de andere leden van het Nederlands team de mond stijf dicht
hebben gehouden over dit enorme, barbaarse schandaal, dat op z’n best past in de donkere Middeleeuwen…. Op zeker
dat daar veel sporters tussen zitten, die zelf een hond of een kat
hebben…….
Het
IOC en alle media aanwezig in Zuid-Korea zouden zich de oren van de
kop moeten schamen, dat men met geen woord heeft vuil gemaakt aan
deze honden- en kattenvlees handel, die gepaard gaat met
ongelofelijke martelingen…..*
De opmerking van Blokhuijsen werd zelfs als discriminerend t.a.v. de Zuid-Koreanen genoemd…… Is het ook discriminerend als je als sporter iets over ernstige mensenrechtenschendingen in bijvoorbeeld de VS zegt…??? Hoe kan een terechte opmerking over zware dierenmishandeling discriminerend zijn? Te zot voor woorden, dat je een ‘cultuur’ van dierenmishandeling niet aan de kaak mag stellen!!

Blokhuijsen heeft donderdag excuses aangeboden voor zijn opmerking na
de olympische ploegachtervolging over de behandeling van honden in
Zuid-Korea.
“Behandel honden
alstublieft beter in dit land”, zei Blokhuijsen woensdag aan het
einde van de persconferentie, nadat hij met de achtervolgingsploeg
brons had gepakt. De schaatser doelde daarmee op het feit dat in
Zuid-Korea nog altijd hondenvlees geconsumeerd wordt.
De opmerking van
Blokhuijsen zorgde voor opschudding onder de Zuid-Koreanen. De
28-jarige Noord-Hollander zou geen weet hebben van de Koreaanse
cultuur en zijn woorden zouden zelfs discriminerend zijn.
“Het was niet
mijn bedoeling jullie land te beledigen”, schrijft Blokhuijsen
donderdag op Twitter in een reactie op de ophef. “Dierenwelzijn
in het algemeen gaat mij aan het hart en ik droom van een betere
wereld voor zowel mens als dier. Ik heb het enorm naar mijn zin op
deze Spelen en wil jullie graag bedanken voor de gastvrijheid.”
In een persverklaring
van NOC*NSF betuigde Blokhuijsen donderdag nogmaals spijt. “Mensen
die mij kennen weten dat ik erg begaan ben met het welzijn van
dieren. Het is een persoonlijke mening die ik niet moet uitdragen
tijdens een persconferentie op de Olympische Spelen.”
Blokhuijsen geeft aan
geen interviews over de kwestie te willen geven. “Het spijt me
dat door mijn opmerking mijn team en Team NL last hebben van de
ophef.”
Veel mensen zullen waarschijnlijk niet eens op de titel van dit bericht klikken als ze het tegenkomen op het internet, immers de spelen mogen niet worden verpest door iets onbenulligs als de miljoenen mensen die honden- en kattenvlees eten en de miljoenen dieren die hiervoor jaarlijks worden groot- en doodgemarteld….. Waar ‘uiteraard’ al helemaal niet over geluld mag worden, zijn de walgelijke omstandigheden waaronder deze arme dieren worden gehouden en vermoord……..
De honden worden gehouden in veel te kleine kooien, de arme dieren moeten op roosters staan en liggen, in hun eigen poep en urine………
Opvallend: positief nieuwszender Radio1 heeft een aantal journalisten in Zuid-Korea, die dagelijks ook wat Zuid-Koreaanse propaganda tripjes maken en ten gehore brengen op die zender, echter altijd met ‘leuke weetjes’ en vooral geen negatieve berichtgeving, zeker niet over de honden- en kattenvleeshandel, al is Noord-Korea schoppen ‘natuurlijk’ wel toegestaan…..
Begrijp me goed als je van sport houdt en dan m.n. deze winter spelen, geniet er vooral van (al kan ik me er niets bij voorstellen), maar dat deze grootschalige marteling van dieren die wij hier als huisdieren houden en waar we alles voor overhebben, niet enorme aandacht heeft gegenereerd bij de reguliere media is een grof schandaal!

Just 25 miles away from the olympics, the painful sight of Korea’s dog meat trade is laid bare
WONJU, South Korea – A
short drive from the burning Olympic torch and the excited throng of
Winter Games spectators, there was no cheering outside the place
where hundreds of dogs are packed in cages until they are killed for
their meat.
In the rural region of
Wonju, down a winding country lane, sits a farm that provides dog
meat to some of the thousands of South Korean restaurants where
patrons order things such as dog salad, dog ribs, dog stew and dog
hot pot.

The grim surroundings of
the farm pains the senses. The first thing to be noticed is the
sound, pitiful whines and yelps of about 300 animals being kept in
filthy cages until their execution.
Step closer and the
stench fills the nostrils, a sickening waft that spreads over two
long rows of cramped cages.
Some of the dogs do not
survive long enough to be slaughtered. Lying discarded on the mud
floor by the plastic awning, the carcass of a dead Tosa – a rare
breed that originated in Japan. Also in the cages were Jindos, St.
Bernards and golden Labradors.
Most
were emaciated. Many had gaps in their fur where huge sores grew on
their bodies. The cages are elevated, set up so dog feces drops
through gaps in the wire bottom, collecting in huge piles beneath.

journalist Sandy Hooper and myself filmed the gruesome scene for 15
minutes on Saturday morning, using GoPros and iPhones. When we
approached the front of the property in an attempt to speak to the
owners, a man screamed in Korean: “Turn it off, otherwise I’m
going to throw it down!”
The Winter Olympics is
supposed to be one giant commercial for South Korea and its winter
tourism industry, but no public relations effort can cast a favorable
light on the Korean dog meat industry. Pyeongchang organizing
officials were aware enough of the likely international reaction to
Korean dog meat eating practices that they paid nearby restaurants to
take down signs advertising the product’s availability and pleaded
with them to take it off the menu – at least during the Olympics.
It didn’t work. Two
miles from Jinbu station, the main hub serving the primary mountain
cluster of the Games, a trio of restaurants openly served dog
products. They had amended their frontage signs to remove the word
“bosintang” (dog meat stew) and promote goat meat instead, but
that was only outside.

Walk inside and glance up
at the giant white board and the first four menu items, in English
and Korean, are derived from man’s best friend. An elderly Korean
man removed his shoes, entered the room, ordered the stew and sat
down at a row of tables on the floor. Soon, he was served the thick
brown concoction and began slurping down the soup until it was all
gone.
In Korean culture, dog
meat is said to have mythical properties that boost restorative
powers and increase virility. Fearing a backlash from
traditionalists, the Korean government won’t amend the law, despite
president Moon Jae-In having adopted a dog saved from the meat
industry.
Pyeongchang organizers
wish government officials would take action.
“We
are aware of the international concern around the consumption of dog
meat in Korea,” an organizing committee statement read. “This is
a matter which the government should address. We hope that this issue
will not impact on the delivery or reputation of the Games and the
province and we will support the work of the province and government
on this topic as needed. Also, dog meat will not be served at any
Games venue.”
Eating dog meat is a
custom here and it is hard to dispute that. In the United States
millions of animals of countless varieties are slaughtered each year
for meat. To some, the plight of Korean dogs is scarcely any
different to that of American chicken, cows or pigs. To others, there
is something vastly different about a dog, given its relationship to
humans.
Activists
in Korea don’t like the use of dogs for meat but mainly focus their
protest efforts on the methods of killing the animals and their
conditions in captivity.

“If
the Korean people stop eating dog meat there will not be the market
for it,” Kim Jun-Won, president of the Dasom animal rights
organization said, fighting back tears when shown photographs of our
footage as we returned to our vehicle. “But this is wrong and it
breaks my heart. The people who keep animals this way and kill them?
They are the devil.”
Demand is decreasing,
with dog meat meals not particularly popular with younger members of
Korean society. As well as the one described above, USA TODAY Sports
visited two other farms in the area that showed signs of being
operational recently. Both were closed, with the dried feces and even
bones of deceased dogs still visible.
“The
problem is that while smaller facilities close due to lack of
business, larger, better organized ones are popping up,” Kiana
Kang, director of programs and special projects of American
non-profit rescue organization Animal Hope and Wellness said. “This
is the two Koreas. There is the beauty and the culture, and then
there is this.”
Korean dog farmers claim
their sole intention is to try to make a living and insist the
animals are the same as livestock.
A group of Winter Olympic
athletes, including Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel, freestyle
skier Gus Kenworthy and snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis took part in a
recent public service announcement in a bid to raise awareness about
the Korean dog meat trade. Duhamel already owns a rescue Korean dog.
The
United States and Canada are leaders in trying to rescue Korean dogs
and provide them with a new life. In a recent
USA TODAY Sports interview, Californian couple Lana Chung Peck
and her husband Kevin Peck described how many of the animals they
foster and rehabilitate through the Save Korean Dogs organization
have significant issues.
Chung Peck said her dogs
cannot initially walk properly on grass or firm ground, because most
of their lives had previously been spent in the cages, scrambling to
get firm footing on the hard thin metal.
Meanwhile, at the Games,
the first medals were being doled out. The plight of Korea’s dogs
isn’t going to be the major narrative of the Games, the events
themselves and the lingering political turmoil dominate the
headlines.
But it is here, happening
not far from the Olympics, and it’s tough to stomach.

In aanloop naar Wereld Walvis Dag op 18 februari a.s. bracht Animal Petitions gisteren een verhaal over de jacht op deze wonderlijke, slimme en mooie dieren. Aan de hand heeft deze organisatie een aantal vragen voor haar leden.
Wat betreft het gebruik van walvissen, waren een paar zaken voor mij een ontdekking. Zo worden walvissen o.a. gebruikt in cosmetica, biodiesel en golfballen!!
Zoals je ongetwijfeld weet, is Japan één van de landen, die nog steeds de barbaarse en uiterst gewelddadige walvisjacht blijft uitvoert……… Wat ik dan weer niet wist is het feit dat Japan jaarlijks ook een groot aantal zwangere walvissen vangt en vermoord……..
Walvisvlees is (goddank) erg ongezond, bevat onder meer PCB’s, kwik, DDT en landbouwgif en wordt zelfs door restaurants in de VS en Canada geïmporteerd……. Overigens kunnen de Nederlandse oranjedwazen die voor de Olympische Spelen in Zuid-Korea zijn, ook daar walviskadaver eten……..
De smerige moord op walvissen moet nu eindelijk eens helemaal verboden worden, laten we de landen die walvissen jagen boycotten, om te beginnen Japan! Made in Japan? Niet kopen!

Series: It’s 2018 and Countries are Still Killing Whales
Japan
recently set out on their annual whaling mission to kill hundreds of
minke whales in the name of scientific research. On these excursions,
whales are shot with a grenade harpoon that is connected to a moving
ship, causing them to die a slow and painful death.
In
2016, 200 of the minke whales killed by Japan were pregnant due to
the fact that they perform these hunts during the whales’ breeding
season. Japan is only one of three countries that continues hunting
whales after a moratorium on commercial whaling was put in place by
the International Whaling Commission (IWC). The IWC was set up in
1946 to protect whales from extinction and to regulate the commercial
whaling industry. They set catch limits for certain areas and
species, designate areas as whale sanctuaries, protect mother whales
and their calves, and control the types of methods used when hunting
is allowed.
In
1986, the IWC, after observing a steep decline of whale populations
due to hunting, created a moratorium for commercial whaling
dramatically decreasing the number of whales killed every year.
Norway, Iceland and Japan have all sought out workarounds in order to
continue their own personal whaling industries. Whaling is extremely
detrimental to whale populations due to long reproduction cycles, and
Japan’s hunting season aligning with breeding season makes that
even harder. Japan uses the scientific research loophole to allow
them to kill hundreds of whales every year, claiming that their
mission is to perform “research for the purpose of studying the
ecological system in the Antarctic Sea”. Norway and Iceland both
whale under an objection to the moratorium, and they self regulate
their own quotas.
The
international community is not blind to Japan’s abuse of the
loophole and has been meeting to solve this problem. The European
Union, along with Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica,
the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, New Zealand, Panama, Peru and
Uruguay have all come out against Japan’s abuse of the system,
pointing out that these hunts are not based on science and provide no
new scientific value. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has
agreed that they are merely hunting whales for their meat. In 2015,
the ICJ’s ruling prevented Japan from slaughtering whales during
that year’s hunt, and their crews were only able to take skin
samples and head counts of the whales, but by the next year, they
were back at it killing over 300 whales.
Whaling
is not only unsustainable and cruel, but their meat is also extremely
unhealthy and can be dangerous when consumed. Top predators such as
large mammals like whales accumulate large amounts of heavy metals
and organochlorines of the smaller fish they feed on. These toxins
bond easily with fat, making the high blubber content of whales the
perfect storage place for them. Metals like mercury and
organochlorines such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB’s) and
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT’s) are the most dangerous of
the toxins found in whales, and they can cause major health problems
in humans when consumed in higher quantities. PCB’s have shown to
cause nerve damage, reproductive and developmental disorders, immune
system suppression, liver damage, and endocrine disruption. DDT
exposure has shown to cause certain types of cancer, as well as
neurological and reproductive disorders. Mercury consumption can also
cause neurological and developmental problems.
The
most contaminated meat comes from fish or mammal eaters such as
dolphins, sperm whales, and beaked whales. Minke whales are known to
feed lower on the food chain, making them safer to consumer, but they
still contain unsafe levels of PCB’s and pesticides. Even worse for
those consuming whale, studies have found that dolphin or beaked
whale meat is often sold under the name of “kujira”, claiming to
be minke meat.
Japan,
Norway, Iceland and Canada are the biggest consumers of whale meat,
with Japan serving it in schools and hospitals to encourage the
practice. But, the whale meat industry as a whole has been on the
decline in recent years. It is no longer a sustainable business
unless heavily subsidized by their governments. A large portion of
the meat is being frozen and stockpiled, while some of it is actually
making its way into US and South Korean restaurants. In Denmark, it
is suspected to be found in farm animal food. But it isn’t just the
food industry that is supporting this business. The health and beauty
industry is also a big supporter, with whale products turning up in
cosmetics and health supplements. Norway and Japan continue to invest
into research for the potential of utilizing whale oil for
pharmaceutical products, nutritional supplements such as fish oil,
and to feed farmed fish and livestock.
There are currently thousands
of patents on products containing whale, and the products range from
golf balls to eco-friendly laundry detergents to bio-diesel. The
research into these new uses has shown an increase over the last few
years, causing concern for some that the whaling industry may be on
the rise yet again.
February
18th is World Whale Day. Celebrate this year by joining in on a
fundraiser, spread the word on social media, and help bring awareness
to the fragility of our oceans and all of those giant creatures who
inhabit them. We have to educate the public on the dangers of whale
meat consumption, as well as protect these majestic creatures from
extinction. Public awareness can make a big difference in keeping the
whaling industry unsustainable. Speak up and celebrate all whales on
February 18th.

Meer dan 60% van de ouderen leeft in grote armoede en de jeugd wordt zo opgezweept uitstekend te presteren, dat vooral een onevenredig deel van deze 2 groepen zich het leven beneemt…….. Ouderen die in armoede leven zijn daarnaast veelal ook eenzaam; in Australië was dit ook een oorzaak van veel zelfdodingen, daar had de inhumane regering het gore lef met een ‘buddy programma’ te komen, waar andere burgers hun eenzame ouderen financieel kunnen ondersteunen, dit terwijl de regering meer dan voldoende middelen heeft om ouderen een onbezorgde oude dag te leveren…… De Zuid-Koreaanse regering beziet of zij dit ‘buddy systeem’ ook zal introduceren, terwijl ook Zuid-Korea meer dan voldoende geld heeft om ouderen een veel gelukkiger oude dag te geven…….
Wij moeten ook vooral doorgaan op het neoliberale pad en nog veel meer mensen dwingen als zzp’er te werken en vaste banen te beperken tot maximaal 5 jaar, zoals hare gitzwarte neoliberale kwaadaardigheid Barbara Baarsma graag doorgevoerd zou zien in ons land…… (voor meer berichten met deze groothufter, klik op het label met haar naam, direct onder dit bericht) Ook de enorme eigen bijdragen voor de gezondheidszorg en de ongelofelijk hoge huren in ons land, zorgen voor veel psychische klachten………

total of 25.6 suicides per 100,000 across the entire population — a
statistic that equates to one suicide per 40 minutes or 36 suicides
per day — is South Korea’s alarming suicide rate in 2016.
South
Korea bears the undesirable distinction of having led all OECD* countries in suicide rate for thirteen straight years from 2003 to
2016. Figures provided by Statistics Korea show 13,092 suicides were
committed in 2016. Disturbingly, this figure could be considered low,
as 524,000 actually attempted but failed to “successfully” commit
suicide.
To
strip the country from the ignominy of maintaining a suicide rate
twice that of the OECD average (12.1), the government announced on
January 23 that it would look to lower the suicide rate to 17 per
100,000 by 2022.
To
reach its goal, authorities will have to think creatively; unlike
other developed countries, economic, social and cultural struggles
factor heavily in South Korea’s ongoing suicide epidemic.

Police
records from 2016 show that 36.2 percent of suicide motives were
attributed to psychological issues, but not far behind were financial
struggles at 23.4 percent. Also playing a significant role were
physical ailments at 21.3 percent, and family disputes and
work-related problems at 8.9 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.
Financial
struggles have consistently played a part in pushing up suicide rates
in the past. In the economic crises of 1997, 2002 and 2008, suicide
rates climbed as unemployment, comparative poverty levels and general
economic inequality grew.
That
money worries correlate with an increasing suicide rate spells
trouble for a massively aging population with rising household
debt-to-income ratios. A Bank of Korea study found debt among the
elderly aged 75 and older was higher than that of the demographic
between 65 and 74 years of age.
Social
cohesion or the lack thereof is also pointed to as a reason for the
prevalence of suicide.
In
the last five pentennial studies into social cohesion carried out by
the OECD, South Korea placed 29 out of 30.
With

safety nets for some of the most vulnerable to suicide are in dire

This
poor showing means that compared to the vast majority of OECD
nations, South Korea has greater levels of age, gender, and wealth
related prejudice, as well as a general dearth of social trust.
Furthermore, it is unlikely that individuals can attain economic and
social success through education, and resolving social problems
through democratic means remains a challenge.
Experts
also say a cultural tendency to be overly concerned with what others
think exacerbates suicide rates.
Finally,
a study into national psychological health for 2016 discovered that
one out of four South Koreans experienced psychological problems at
least once in their lives, but only 22.2 percent of these individuals
made use of mental health treatment services.
Based
on these causes, it is little surprise that the elderly, with a
suicide rate of 53.3 per 100,000, have been especially at risk of
choosing death at their own hands.
The
poverty rate for the elderly in South Korea is 61.7 percent, the
absolute leader in this statistic among the OECD nations. Moreover,
data shows that 27.1 percent of all elderly, and 41.7 percent of all
elderly living alone have at one point suffered from depression.
The
Gyeonggido Family and Women Research Institute’s survey on
provincial residents’ psychological health found that teenagers,
and individuals in their 60s and 70s were three demographic groups in
greater need of treatment for depression and suicide prevention.
While
the government has declared exhaustive posthumous investigations into
the 70,000 suicides that occurred from 2012 through 2016 as well as
establishing 1 million “gatekeepers” who can serve as community
watchers in providing suicide prevention measures, of interest are
the various methods in which other countries are helping elderly
citizens at risk of suicide.
In
neighboring Japan, delivery and utilities maintenance workers watch
for omens that portend of “lonely deaths”. In France, community
clubs for the elderly provide social cohesion, and Australia is home
to programs in which seniors without a social support system can be
“adopted” by others.
With
a looming future in which one in five South Koreans are seniors,
safety nets for some of the most vulnerable to suicide are in dire
need.

BBC World Service kwam vanmorgen met een waarschuwing van VS vicepresident Mike Pence voor de samenwerking tussen Noord- en Zuid-Korea op de Olympische Winterspelen die a.s. vrijdag van start gaan.
Waarvoor Pence waarschuwt? Voor kennis uit het verleden! Pence stelt dat Noord- en Zuid-Korea ook tijdens de Olympische Winterspelen van 2006 samenwerkten en tijdens die spelen deden de Noord-Koreanen voor het eerst een kernproef……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ten eerste is het nog steeds niet duidelijk of Noord-Korea een atoombom heeft, daar niemand tot nu toe radioactieve straling heeft gemeten, boven de plek waaronder de Noord-Koreanen de kernproeven houden (tot een paar dagen na zo’n ondergrondse proef is radioactieve straling te meten boven die plek, ook te meten met satellieten…) Ten tweede: waar slaat het op? Alsof Noord-Korea voor elke ‘kernproef’ een speciale gelegenheid uitzoekt…….
De VS is in ieder geval het land dat voor haar grootschalige terreur geen speciale gelegenheden nodig heeft, dat heeft dit gestolen land al veelvuldig bewezen in het (recente) verleden…… Oh, met één uitzondering: de staatsgreep in Oekraïne, geheel ‘toevallig’ (zo de waard is vertrouwt deze zijn/haar gasten) tijdens de Olympische Winterspelen in Sotsji!! De opstand en de daarop volgende coup werd door Hillary Clinton en de CIA voorbereid, geregisseerd en betaald (met 4 miljard dollar!!)……… Uiteraard had Rusland het veel te druk met die Spelen om in de gaten te houden waar de VS mee bezig was. Al zullen er na die coup wel wat topfiguren uit de FSB (Russische geheime dienst) zijn geschopt, immers die hadden e.e.a moeten zien aankomen…..
Gezien dat laatste mogen de Noord-Koreanen wel uitkijken tijdens de komende Spelen, immers ook Zuid-Korea is tegen een aanval van de VS op Noord-Korea en heeft tijdens die Spelen vast geen tijd om in de gaten te houden wat de VS uitvreet……….

Sterker nog: dat de VS continu bezig is Noord-Korea te provoceren, haalt de westerse media niet eens……. Rusland heeft de VS nogmaals de wacht aangezegd, niet militair in te grijpen, daar dit tot een grote catastrofe, om niet te zeggen tot de apocalyps kan leiden (ofwel WOIII)…….
Op een conferentie in het Zuid-Koreaanse Seoul heeft de Russische staatssecretaris voor Defensie, Igor Morgulov, aangegeven dat Rusland (en China) Noord-Korea wel degelijk onder druk hebben gezet en zetten, zich in te binden, iets dat de VS (en daarmee de rest van het westen, dus de meeste politici en de reguliere media) keer op keer durft te ontkennen…..
Ondertussen heeft de VS voor 4 december alweer een grote militaire oefening gepland langs de Noord-Koreaanse grens, waar 12.000 militairen en meer dan 230 militaire vliegtuigen aan deelnemen**, duidelijk een oefening op het binnenvallen van Noord-Korea, al stelt de VS dat het alweer om ‘verdediging’ gaat……..

Issues Chilling Warning to US Over North Korea
(ZHE)Russian
deputy foreign minister Igor Morgulov said on Monday that “an
apocalyptic scenario of developments” on the Korean Peninsula is
possible, but Russia hopes that a common sense would prevail among
the involved parties.
“A
scenario of the apocalyptic development of the situation on the
Korean Peninsula exists and we cannot turn our blind eye to it,”
Morgulov said speaking at the opening of the eighth annual Asian
Conference of the Valdai discussion club in Seoul. “I
hope that a common sense, pragmatism and an instinct of
self-preservation would prevail among our partners to exclude such
negative scenario,”
the Russian diplomat said, quoted by Russia’s
Tass.
Fire
and brimstone aside, Morgulov noted that a phase of calm appeared to
be returning as North Korea’s current pause in provocations – the
longest since last winter – indicates a step toward
denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. “I think North Korea’s
restraint for the past two months is within the simultaneous freeze
road map” suggested by China and Russia, Morgulov told reporters in
Seoul on Monday according to Bloomberg.
North Korea’s last provocation was on Sept. 15, when it fired its
second missile over Japan in as many months. The
73-day pause is the longest since a 116-day break between October
2016 and February.
Russian
and Chinese foreign ministers proposed in July a “double freezing”
initiative, under which North Korea refrains from missile and nuclear
tests, and the U.S. and South Korea halt large-scale military
exercises, however the U.S. has rejected this proposal, arguing that
its drills are defensive in nature. Earlier this month, it carried
out its first exercise in a decade using three aircraft carriers in
the region, and plans to conduct drills with South Korea’s air
force in early December.
Morgulov,
Russia’s deputy minister responsible for relations with East and
South Asia, said that following a “freeze for freeze” the next
step would be to hold exchanges with Pyongyang. Once North Korea
agrees to a moratorium on testing and talks are taking place, the
process can move to discussion of denuclearization, he said. “We
will have to see a certain change of attitude of the U.S., especially
on freezing or reducing” its military drills, Morgulov said. “It’ll
be difficult for us to play the role of persuading North Korea” not
to provoke anymore without a change in the U.S. Position.
Despite
the impasse, and underscoring Russia’s argument, the diplomat said
that “we have told North Korea many times that for us [its] nuclear
status is unacceptable,” adding that “we continue this work with
the North Korean counterparts presenting to them our position.”
Moscow negatively
assesses joint military drills of the United States with its allies
in the region of the Korean Peninsula, while
North Korea keeps a two-month pause in missile and nuclear tests, he
went on.
“Considering
the two-month long period of silence, the United States is not
planning to reduce the scale of its regular military exercises, but
also plan holding sudden drills as well,” Morgulov said.
“Unfortunately,
this is the answer, which North Korea gets in response to its
two-month silence,” the Russian diplomat said adding that Moscow
“assesses it negatively.” “I believe that both the North
Korean nuclear tests and joint military drills of the United States
with its allies are definitely of a negative nature,” Morgulov
said.
“Russia
has presented the roadmap’s contents both to the U.S. and to the
DPRK (North Korea),” the diplomat said. “I would like to say that ‘at the
very entrance’ the plan has not been rejected either by Washington
or by Pyongyang, though still no answer.”
“Besides,
we have spoken for discussing certain elements of this plan
separately with the U.S. and with North Korea,” he continued. “We
have begun the work, but I have to say regretfully that the actions,
which Washington undertook in October-November, I mean the unplanned
drills, affect greatly our dialogue on settlement on the basis of the
roadmap.”
“Is
it possible for someone to cherish illusions that threats from US
President Donald Trump to strike with ‘fire and fury’ will be
able to cut the knot, which has been tight on the Korean Peninsula
for many decades?” Morgulov said. “I believe it would be naive to
hope that any of the sides would give in to the pressure,” the
Russian diplomat said.
“We
must understand that the pressure borders with the deliberate push of
North Korea to the humanitarian catastrophe,” Morgulov said. “This
will not result in the North Korean authorities giving up missile and
nuclear programs, but on the contrary, will only strengthen its
intentions to stay until the very end.”
“I
believe that the path of pressure has no perspectives and there is no
other alternative to the dialogue,” the Russian diplomat said.
“The
resumption of inter-Korean dialogue could have a positive effect (on
the conflict settlement),” Morgulov said. “These two countries
have issues to discuss and I know that our South Korean partners are
ready for such dialogue and repeatedly expressed interest in its
initiation,” the Russian diplomat said.
“If
Pyeongyang’s demonstrated restraint over the past two months was
met with similar reciprocal steps on behalf of the United States and
its allies then we could have moved to the start of direct talks
between the United States and North Korea,” Morgulov said.
“Will
it be possible? I am absolutely sure that it is possible,” the
Russian diplomat said. “The key agenda of such talks can be very
simple, which is the principles of peaceful coexistence. I believe
that the lack of such concord gives roots to hostility and mutual
mistrust among the involved parties.”
“The
United States and its allies should at least reduce the scale of
their regular military exercises they are holding in the region of
the Korean Peninsula,” Morgulov said.

er aan de hand is in Zuid-Korea weet ik niet, maar het lijkt erop dat

van de VS!!! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!
Waar een paar Noord-Koreaanse raketlanceringen ‘zijn gelukt’, mislukte het gros van die lanceringen dramatisch, daarnaast kan je uit die paar gelukte
lanceringen niet opmaken, of deze raketten i.d.d. de westkust van de
VS zouden kunnen halen. Ook is niet bekend of de plek waar deze raketten in zee zijn gestort, de door Noord-Korea gewenste plek was……
Dan nog
de atoombom fabel: nog nooit heeft iemand toegegeven sporen van
radioactiviteit te hebben opgemerkt boven de plek van de Noord-Koreaanse kernproeven……. Deze straling is tot een paar dagen na de lancering bovengronds te meten en is door een aantal satellieten te herkennen…….. Als Noord-Korea inderdaad geen atoombom heeft, wat zoals gezegd naar grote waarschijnlijkheid de realiteit is, is een lading voor een kernraket, een zogenaamde kernkop, al helemaal ondenkbaar!
De voorgenomen militaire oefening met een groot aantal militaire vliegtuigen, waaronder de F-22 raptor, volgens zeggen de meest geavanceerde straaljager ter wereld*, zou de zoveelste schoffering van Noord-Korea worden, naast de jaarlijkse grote militaire oefening, die de VS en Zuid-Korea langs de grens en de gedemilitariseerde zone met Noord-Korea houden…… Tegen die oefeningen tekent N-K al decennia lang protest aan…….
President Moon Jae-in zet al vanaf zijn aantreden in op onderhandelingen met Noord-Korea en het stoppen van provocerende zaken als de bedreigingen tegen Noord-Korea, neem het dreigen met oorlog en vernietiging door het beest Trump…… Uiteraard wil Jae-in een eind aan de jaarlijkse oefeningen en de aangekondigde luchtshow van de VS en Zuid-Korea……
Gezien deze houding van Jae-in, kan je bijna niet anders concluderen dan: Jae-in heeft zijn leger niet in de hand, dit nog naast de grote druk die de VS uitoefent op Jae-in, om Noord-Korea zoveel mogelijk op te fokken……
Aan de luchtshow genaamd ‘Vigilant Ace’, doen maar liefst 12.000 VS militairen en een onbekend aantal Zuid-Koreaanse militairen mee, voorts zullen 230 militaire vliegtuigen worden ingezet, deze oefening op een aanval tegen Noord-Korea, zal starten op 4 december a.s…….
Tijdens de Koreaanse oorlog werd 20% van de Noord-Koreaanse bevolking uitgemoord met massa bombardementen door de VS…… Er werd zoveel gebombardeerd dat de VS op een geven moment geen doelen overhad om te bombarderen……. Is het dan zo vreemd te bedenken dat Noord-Korea zich op alle mogelijke manieren wil indekken tegen een voortzetting van de Koreaanse oorlog?? Bovendien heeft de VS laten zien dat wanneer het een president weg wil hebben, dit zal gebeuren,zelfs als deze president voldoet aan de eisen van de VS, zie Saddam Hoessein (Irak) en Khadaffi (Libie), landen die voor een groot deel in puin zijn gelegd en waar de chaos regeert…….
Vergeet tot slot niet dat de VS maar liefst 15 militaire bases heeft in Zuid-Korea, waarvan 1 vlak bij de gedemilitariseerde zone tussen de beide Korea’s……

and South Korea to Conduct Massive Air Force Exercise Aimed at North
Korea
(COMMONDREAMS) — The
U.S. and South Korea announced Friday they will conduct a
massive air force exercise over the Korean Peninsula next month as a
notable show
of force targeting
North Korea—despite warnings that
the Trump administration’s decision earlier this week to add North
Korea to the United States’ list of state sponsors of terrorism
could further provoke the isolated country.
Six
F-22 Raptor stealth fighters—which are among the world’s most
advanced warplanes—will be sent to South Korea for the drill, a
U.S. Air Force spokesman told AFP,
which reports:
The
massive five-day annual exercise comes as Washington pushes what
President Donald Trump has called a “maximum pressure campaign”
against Pyongyang over its nuclear program.
The
exercise, named Vigilant Ace, starts on December 4 with 12,000 U.S.
personnel and an unspecified number of South Korean airmen flying
more than 230 aircraft at eight U.S. and South Korean military bases.

Reuters reports that
U.S. Marine Corps and Navy troops will also participate in the
exercise.
Although
the drill is conducted annually, it comes as U.S. President Donald
Trump continues to antagonize North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the
world stage.
As Common
Dreams reported this
week, after Trump designated North Korea as a state sponsor of
terrorism on Monday, the North Korean Central News Agency called the
decision a “serious provocation,” and warned that “our
army and people are full of rage and anger toward the heinous
gangsters” who made the decision.
Concerns
about the escalating conflict, and the Trump administration’s vocal
opposition to engaging in diplomatic discussions with North Korea,
continue to rise in the U.S. as well as among North Korea’s
neighbors, particularly South Korea. When Trump visited Asia earlier
this month, South Koreans greeted him
with massiveprotests—denouncing
him as a “war-threatening, weapons salesman”—while
Pyongyang claimed the
president “begged for war” during his trip.
* Of de F-22 Raptor i.d.d. de meest geavanceerde straaljager is, is maar zeer de vraag, immers dit zegt men ook over de JSF, terwijl dit peperdure straalvliegtuig niet eens straaljager genoemd kan worden, daar het niet voldoet aan de eisen daarvoor. Zo rent, klimt en wendt het toestel niet snel genoeg, het kan zich nog net meten met de A-19 Thunderbolt uit de 70er jaren…….. De stealth technologie van de JSF is al gekraakt door Rusland en China, die het onding gewoon op de radar van hun nieuwste (wel echte) straaljagers kunnen zien…… Dit alles was bekend voordat Rutte 2 definitief instemde met de aanschaf van dit waanzinnige dure toestel, ook de verantwoordelijk minister, VVD leeghoofd Hennis-Plasschaert, was op de hoogte van deze feiten…….. De media slaan als het over Noord-Korea gaat, op de oorlogstrom, zo zou N-K een gevaar voor de wereldvrede zijn en spreekt men van Noord-Koreaanse agressie…… Terwijl er amper of geen aandacht is voor de jaarlijkse grootschalige militaire oefeningen van de VS en Zuid-Korea voor de grenzen van N-K (over agressie gesproken), iets waar Noord-Korea al decennialang tegen protesteert……..
Gisteren plaatste Anti-Media een artikel van Darius Shahtahmasebi, waarin hij opmerkte, dat Noord-Korea meermaals heeft aangeboden met het kernwapenprogramma te stoppen, iets waar geen belangstelling voor was in het Witte Huis en het Pentagon……..
‘Diezelfde belangstelling’ ontbreekt ook bij de reguliere westerse media, men stelt doodleuk dat Noord-Korea niet wenst te onderhandelen en dat het land daarom onberekenbaar en gevaarlijk is………
Overigens heeft ook de regering van ‘vredesduif’ Obama geweigerd te overleggen met China en Noord-Korea over het bevriezen van het kernwapenprogramma…… Ja u leest het goed: ook China heeft de VS verzocht, om samen met een VS / Chinese delegatie te onderhandelen met Noord-Korea….. U weet uiteraard wat het overgrote deel van de westerse politici en media ons voorhouden: China zou veel te weinig doen tegen de ‘Noord-Koreaanse agressie….’
Kortom ook hier wordt u door de westerse reguliere media besodemieterd met ”fake news’ en dikke leugens…..
Shahtahmasebi vestigt volkomen terecht nog eens de aandacht op het feit dat Noord-Korea alle reden heeft, bang te zijn voor het uiterst agressieve VS, de reden waarom het land atoomwapens wil hebben…… Zo kwam 20% van de Noord-Koreaanse bevolking om bij VS bombardementen tijdens de Koreaanse oorlog en begint de VS de ene illegale oorlog na de andere……..

Silence: North Korea Has Repeatedly Offered to Give up Their Nukes

to beat the drums of war against North Korea, little attention is
being paid to one crucial detail regarding the current crisis
engulfing the Korean peninsula.
You
wouldn’t know it if you were to turn on your television every day
or simply skim
the media’s headlines,
but North Korea has continuously offered to
freeze its nuclear program. The very threat we are continuously told
to fear could be immediately neutralized but is instead repeatedly
rejected by the United States.
However,
prominent media outlets such as the Washington
Postcontinue to
tell a different story, namely that:
“[North
Korean dictator Kim Jong-un] has shown no interest in talks — he
won’t even set foot in China, his biggest patron. Even if
negotiations took place, the current regime has made clear that ‘it
will never place its self-defensive nuclear deterrence on the
negotiating table, as
one envoy recently put it.”
As
the Interceptexplains,
this is a false assertion:
“There’s
of course a significant difference betweenNorth
Korea saying it will never negotiate to halt or eliminate its nuclear
weapons program, and that it will never negotiate as long as the U.S.
continues to threaten it…The reality is that North
Korea is saying that, under certain conditions, it
will put its nuclear weapons on the table.” [emphasis
added]
Not
only does the media continue to misinform the public on this issue,
but as Noam Chomsky explained in an interview with Democracy!
Now,
the United States continues to categorically reject North Korea’s
proposal:
“There
is one proposal that’s ignored. You see a mention of it now and
then. It’s a pretty simple proposal. Remember the goal is to get
North Korea to freeze its weapons systems – weapons and missile
systems. One proposal is to accept their offer to do that. Sounds
simple, they’ve made a proposal – China and North Korea –
proposed to freeze the North Korean missile and nuclear weapons
systems and theU.S.
instantly rejected it. And you can’t blame that on Trump, Obama did
the same thing, a couple of years ago. Same offer was presented – I
think it was 2015 – the Obama administration instantly rejected
it.”
Why
would they do that? Why fear North Korea’s nuclear weapons
capabilities but then reject a proposal to freeze their production?
As Chomsky explains further:
“The
reason is that it calls for a quid pro quo.
It says in return the United States should put an end to threatening
military maneuvers on North Korea’s borders, which happen to
include under Trump, sending of nuclear-capable
B-52sflying
right near the border. Maybe Americans don’t remember very well but
North Koreans have a memory of not too long ago when North
Korea was absolutely flattened – literally – by
American bombing. There was literally no
targets left.” [emphasis
added]
In
the early 1950s, the U.S. relentlessly bombed North
Korea, destroying over
8,700 factories, 5,000 schools, 1,000 hospitals, 600,000 homes,
and eventually
killing off
as much as 20 percent of the country’s population. As the Asia
Pacific Journal has
noted, the U.S. did, indeed, drop so many bombs that they eventually
ran out of targets to hit and bombed the irrigation systems, instead:
“By
the fall of 1952, there were no effective
targets left for US planes to hit.
Every significant town, city and industrial area in North Korea had
already been bombed. In the spring of 1953, the Air Force targeted
irrigation dams on the Yalu River, both to destroy the North Korean
rice crop and to pressure the Chinese, who would have to supply more
food aid to the North. Five reservoirs were hit, flooding thousands
of acres of farmland, inundating whole towns and laying waste to the
essential food source for millions of North Koreans.” [emphasis
added]
Despite
the people and leadership of North Korea knowing
this history and
the history of other like-minded
states who
became easy targets for the U.S. military upon dismantling their
weapons programs, North Korea is still to this day offering this
proposal to freeze its program.
“North
Korea’s proclamations have been closely
trackedby
Robert Carlin, currently a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s
Center for International Security and Cooperation and formerly head
of the Northeast Asia Division in the State Department’s
intelligence arm. Carlin has visited North Korea over 30 times.

email, Carlin described how it is difficult but critical to
accurately decode North Korean communications. ‘Observers dismiss
as unimportant what the North Koreans say,’ Carlin writes, and
‘therefore don’t read it carefully, except of course if it is
colorful, fiery language that makes for lovely headlines. Some of
what the North says is simply propaganda and can be read with one eye
closed. Other things are written and edited very carefully, and need
to be read very carefully. And then, having been read, they need to
be compared with past statements, and put in context.’”
The media’s
insistence that
North Korea will never give up its weapons systems is completely
disingenuous when one reads the entire context of the statements
offered by Kim Jong-un’s government. On July 4, Kim’s statement
read as follows:
“[T]he
DPRK would neither put its nukes and ballistic rockets on the table
of negotiations in any case nor flinch even an inch from the road of
bolstering the nuclear force chosen by itself unlessthe
U.S. hostile policy and nuclear threat to the DPRK are definitely
terminated.” [emphasis
added]
Quid
pro quo.
This
is a deal-breaker for the U.S. even though it would undoubtedly
diffuse the entire situation and provide the region with at least a
brief period of stability.
The
U.S., together with South Korea, simulates an
invasion of North Korea every year. In Donald Trump’s first six
months in office, he dropped over
20,650 bombs in approximately seven countries, which killed
thousands of civilians.
By comparison, Kim Jong-un bombs the
ocean.
No
matter how objectively you look at it, North Korea has a genuine
reason to want to be prepared in the face of American aggression. But
a military strike option to counter any potential North Korean threat
is not the only option and, further, is almost certainly
the worst option on the table.
After
the failures and crimes of U.S. politicians and the military in Iraq,
Libya, Yemen, and Afghanistan — to name a few — we should be
demanding that our world leaders try the diplomatic option advanced
by the North Korean regime to the fullest extent in order to avoid a
potential nuclear holocaust and the deaths of millions of innocent
civilians.
