Zoals al vaak op deze plek betoogd: het is zonder meer een schande dat de reguliere westerse (massa-) media ten eerste Julian Assange hebben besmeurd en dat op basis van leugens als zou hij onverantwoordelijk namen hebben verspreid van mensen die daardoor gevaar lopen…… Ten tweede dat hij staatsgeheimen zou hebben geopenbaard, terwijl er alleen oorlogsmisdaden en smerige spelletjes werden gepubliceerd op WikiLeaks, oorlogsmisdaden en spelletjes van de VS tegen diverse buitenlanden, waaronder zelfs het bespioneren van VS partners en dat op basis van officiële documenten… (partners van de VS, ofwel: de hielenlikkende westerse landen als Nederland) Ten derde: hoe kan een journalist zo worden besmeurd door collega’s terwijl deze alleen de waarheid brengt, de taak van een ieder zichzelf serieus nemend journalist…..

Kortom naast de meeste westerse politici, hebben de reguliere westerse (massa-) media Assange gedemoniseerd en dat op een uiterst smerige manier………

Het zijn dan ook die reguliere media die de leugens brachten van de machthebbers in de VS en GB, de machthebbers die voor en achter de schermen opereren…… Neem de illegale oorlogen die de VS deze eeuw begon en de gigantische hoop leugens waarmee deze vreselijke oorlogsmisdaden werden ‘gelegitimeerd’, maar ook de enorme berg leugens als zou Rusland de presidentsverkiezingen van de VS in 2016 hebben gemanipuleerd…..
Zoals Brasscheck TV terecht opmerkt: de waarheid wordt in het volle daglicht vermoord!!
In de video van Brasscheck TV, overgenomen van RT, hoor je George Galloway vertellen over de brutaliteit die Assange had te verduren van zijn arrestatie tot het proces tot uitzetting naar de VS en de voortdurende gevangenisstraf in Belmarsh Prison waar hij volkomen wordt geïsoleerd (een ernstige vorm van marteling), als zou Assange een terrorist zijn en de overheden van de VS en Groot-Brittannië geen staten zijn die met hun grootschalige terreur dood en verderf zaaien…… Galloway prijst in zijn speech ook Craig Murray, de ex-ambassadeur van GB voor Oezbekistan, die zijn verdere carrière opofferde met zijn handelen om Assange vrij te pleiten…..
Assange mocht zelfs zijn aantekeningen niet gebruiken tijdens de smerige rechtszaak die de Britten tegen hem voeren, een rechtszaak die moet uitmaken of hij uitgeleverd mag worden aan de VS, waar hem 175 jaar gevangenisstraf wacht en nogmaals: dat voor het naar buiten brengen van de waarheid……. Volkomen terecht stelt Galloway dan ook dat Julian Assange in Zweden de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede* had moeten krijgen, i.p.v. hem vast te zetten……
De westerse media moeten zich doodschamen dat ze het meer dan smerige proces tegen Assange doodzwijgen en alweer heeft Brasscheck TV gelijk: dit is niets meer of minder dan censuur en dat door media die zich zouden moeten doodvechten tegen elke vorm van censuur!!

Momenteel buigt de Britse rechter zich over het uitleveringsverzoek van de VS Julian Assange aan hen over te dragen. Vanmiddag op Radio1 NOS verslaggever Tim de Wit in Londen die e.e.a. ‘uitlegde’ aan de luisteraar. Volgens de Wit heeft Assange staatsgeheimen prijsgegeven en daarbij bestaande personnen in gevaar gebracht, ofwel de Wit nam simpelweg de beschuldigingen van de VS aan het adres van Assange over……

 De Wit begon maar niet over de oorlogsmisdaden die beschreven staan in WikiLeaks, de gelekte documenten waarin bijvoorbeeld wordt beschreven hoe een VS helikopterbemanning een aantal burgers vermoordde die bezig waren een gewonde burger te helpen, e.e.a. met een hoerastemming in het vliegende oorlogstuig als er weer iemand werd geraakt……

Nee, Assange moet en zal hangen, ook wat betreft de zogenaamd onafhankelijke NOS, terwijl het proces NB wordt gevoerd tegen een collega journalist…… Iedere journalist die dergelijke documenten in handen zou krijgen, zou deze openbaar moeten maken, daar je anders je werk niet doet als journalist……

 Het is een schande dat de reguliere westerse media zich bijna allemaal tegen Assange hebben gekeerd, i.p.v. hun collega uit en te na te verdedigen….. Men moet toch snappen dat wanneer er ook maar één door Assange ‘genoemde figuur’ zou zijn vermoord na met naam en toenaam te zijn vermeld op WikiLeaks, dit onmiddellijk wereldnieuws zou zijn geweest, echter we zijn al jaren verder en niet één zo’n bericht heeft ‘het daglicht gezien….’ Er zouden dan ook geen met naam genoemde figuren zijn gemeld op WikiLeaks van wie het leven gevaar zou kunnen lopen……

Blijkbaar is men bij die reguliere westerse media pissig omdat de documenten op WikiLeaks aangeven dat men in die media keer op keer heeft gelogen (fake news en andere desinformatie), bijvoorbeeld over ‘de noodzaak’ in 2003 om Irak aan te vallen, terwijl echte journalisten al lang wisten dat Irak geen massavernietigingswapens had, zoals VN wapeninspecteur Blix keer op keer meldde en daarvoor het vuur uit de sloffen heeft gelopen…….

Het is een schande dat Assange nog steeds vastzit en dat puur en alleen omdat hij zijn werk heeft gedaan….. Het is een schande dat men alleen al een proces wil voeren om hem uit te leveren aan de VS, de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde…… Maar het is vooral een schande dat de reguliere westerse media een collega zo hebben laten vallen en hem zelfs hebben gedemoniseerd!!! Dezelfde media die geloof hechtten aan de valse beschuldigingen van verkrachting die men Assange in Zweden aan wilde smeren….. Logisch dat Assange de Ecuadoraanse ambassade invluchtte nadat hij te horen kreeg dat Zweden hem uitgeleverd wilde hebben vanwege die valse beschuldigingen…… Voor die vlucht in de ambassade van Ecuador heeft Groot-Brittannië Assange vastgezet, terwijl intussen volledig duidelijk is dat de Zweedse aanklacht tegen Assange was gebaseerd op leugens, hoe durf je iemand dan alsnog vast te zetten??!!!

Ongelofelijk maar wel geheel en al waar: de Britse regering die door de VN wordt beschuldigd van het martelen van journalist Julian Assange, heeft RT en Sputnik niet uitgenodigd voor een internationale conferentie over persvrijheid >> de ‘Global Conference on Media Freedom………’

Volgens de Britse regering is dit vanwege de voorliefde van deze 2 mediaorganen voor het verspreiden van desinformatie…… Uiteraard worden er geen voorbeelden gegeven, terwijl de wel uitgenodigde reguliere mediaorganen al jaren bol staan van nepnieuws (fake news), leugens en andere desinformatie, neem alleen al de verslaggeving over de illegale VS oorlogen tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië…….
Trouwens het feit dat een regering een conferentie belegt over persvrijheid is wat mij betreft een gotspe. Dezelfde regering die de BBC subsidieert en daarvoor wordt beloond door de BBC met inhumane neoliberale propaganda voor de zittende regering, waar men alle leugens van overheid en geheime diensten overneemt als was het ‘de weg de waarheid en het leven…’ Uiteraard zal de BBC een prominente rol spelen in de conferentie, waar deze afhankelijke zendgemachtigde bewezen hele bergen fake news en desinformatie heeft gebracht…..

 Gisteravond werd in het BBC programma Panorama Labour afgeschilderd als een antisemitisme partij….. Terwijl de paar klagende Joodse Labourleden vooral zijn gevallen over de kritiek van Labour op het uiterst bloedige, fascistische apartheidsbeleid van Israël, waar deze Labour leden deze kritiek eerder afschilderden als antisemitisme en daarop terecht werden aangesproken door de top van Labour…….

Ook in series en andere documentaires brengt de BBC onvervalste propaganda voor de illegale oorlogen van de VS en voor het smerige moorddadige Israëlische beleid tegen het verdrukte Palestijnse volk, zaken die politiek* worden gesteund door de Britse regering….. Werkelijk de grofste leugens worden als waarheid gebracht in deze walgelijke propaganda…….

De hele antisemitische Labour leugen is ingegeven om de huidige leider van Labour, Jeremy Corbyn onderuit te halen als een socialistische politicus en socialisme is in GB een heel vies woord….. Veronderstel dat een ‘socialistische regering’ eens wat gaat doen voor de enorme grote arme onderlaag in GB, waar dagelijks meer dan 4 miljoen kinderen met honger naar school moeten……

 De BBC had het gore lef te stellen dat het nieuws brengt vanuit alle hoeken bezien en aarzelt niet om kritiek te leveren op de Britse regering……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja, zo af en toe geeft de BBC wat kritiek op de regering, echter dat is vooral om aan te tonen dat men ‘onafhankelijk is….’ Het gros van de artikelen zijn zonder meer steun voor eerder genoemd smerig beleid…..

Het gaat bij het weren van media als RT dan ook niet over het brengen van nepnieuws, nee deze mediaorganen en alternatieve mediaorganen worden juist geweigerd daar ze de waarheid brengen en dat is natuurlijk niet de bedoeling als je als land en mediaorgaan de burgers dag in dag uit besodemietert…….

The British Foreign Office has banned Russian outlets RT and Sputnik from attending the upcoming Global Conference on Media Freedom in London, citing their predilection for “disinformation”.
“We have not accredited RT or Sputnik because of their active role in spreading disinformation,” said a Foreign Office spokeswoman.

 “It takes a particular brand of hypocrisy to advocate for freedom of press while banning inconvenient voices and slandering alternative media; sadly, the world has learned to expect just that from the UK Foreign Office,” RT said in a statement in response.

 “It amounts to direct politically motivated discrimination of the Russian channel,” said the Russian embassy in London. “The refusal of accreditation comes on top of the months-long smear campaign against RT by British political figures, governmental bodies, including media regulator Ofcom, and even fellow journalists.”

 “Now a leading Russian international TV channel is denied access to the forum, despite being officially registered and working in the UK, on legal grounds,” the embassy added. “What better illustration of the real situation with media freedom in the UK does one need? Yet the organizers of the Conference, as far as we understand, wish to discuss the situation with media freedom anywhere in the world, but not in this country.”

Russia’s RT banned from UK media freedom conference

The UK Foreign Office bans two Russian news agencies, accusing them of spreading misinformation.

The BBC’s report on this story hilariously contains a brazenly propagandistic video titled “What’s
so different about Russia Today?” which carefully explains why it’s very important for the BBC’s audience to understand that RT is propaganda.

 “They want to be an alternative view, which in fact is the propaganda machine of, and is paid for by, the Kremlin,” says the video by the BBC, a government-funded news station with an established history of collaboration with British intelligence to deplatform dissenting voices.

 “The BBC tries to cover all the angles of the story, including those that wouldn’t be pleasant to the UK government,” the BBC video claims. “RT always picks up pundits, questions, issues, angles that show the Kremlin and the Russian government in a positive way.”

 In reality, the BBC is very much guilty of enforcing what British journalist Jonathan Cook recently described as the “narrow manufactured consensus of supposedly rational policy – neoliberal orthodoxy at home, and neoconservative warmongering abroad.” Like all other mainstream British media, the BBC works to shrink the Overton window of acceptable debate and propagandize British citizens into arguing over how existing power structures should be aided and maintained instead of whether those power structures should exist at all. For the BBC to pretend that it is in any way superior to RT on any level is laughable.

 But the BBC will certainly be in attendance at the Global Conference on Media Freedom, welcomed with open arms by the British government it only half-pretends to have an oppositional relationship with.’

This would be the same British government that is currently holding journalist Julian Assange behind bars pending a US extradition hearing for exposing American war crimes. The same British government who UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Nils Melzer found guilty of participating in the psychological torture of that same journalist. The same Foreign Office whose head, Jeremy Hunt, told Face the Nation last month that he will allow Assange to be extradited to the US if he succeeds in his bid to become the next Prime Minister, after explicitly and repeatedly condemning the persecution of dissident journalists in other nations.

 You won’t see any of this ridiculous, jaw-dropping hypocrisy called out by the BBC, nor by any other mainstream outlet in the uniquely spineless and sycophantic British media. Do you know where you will see this hypocrisy being criticized? RT.

 The only reason RT and Sputnik exist with any degree of popularity in the west is because, contrary to what the BBC claims, people are unable to hear any voices that are critical of real power from western mainstream media. If the BBC or any other British outlet were to begin platforming actual anti-war, leftist and anti-establishment voices with any degree of regularity, I can guarantee you with 100 percent certainty that RT and Sputnik would immediately lose their UK audiences.

 But that never happens, because British mass media does not “cover all the angles of the story, including those that wouldn’t be pleasant to the UK government” as the BBC claims, it publishes propaganda which directly benefits the underlying power structures of the UK government. Their job isn’t to tell the truth and hold power to account, their job is to normalize the status quo, manufacture consent for endless war, and tell you day in and day out that Jeremy Corbyn is a cross between Adolf Hitler and a werewolf.

Jeremy Hunt longs for the days when a country could peacefully propagandize its citizens without this pesky problem of propaganda from other countries seeping into the mix and forcing everyone to think for themselves. We have been experiencing a brief but wonderful period where the internet has opened up rivers of information from all sorts of perspectives, but we will need to fight to keep those rivers flowing. Invisible censorship has already begun in earnest, and it’s at these conferences where they dream up even more insidious ways to throttle dissident voices.

De arm van de grootste terreurentiteit op onze aarde, de VS, reikt ver. Nu het er niet op lijkt dat GB Julian Assange snel kan uitleveren aan de VS, heeft de VS weer ingezet op de false flag operatie, waarbij Assange opnieuw van verkrachting wordt beschuldigd in Zweden…..’

De landelijke radiostations van België, Duitsland, GB en Nederland stellen dat Zweden de zaak liet vallen omdat men niet met de verdachte kon spreken……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Blijkbaar nooit van ‘bij verstek veroordeeld’ gehoord, daarbij kan een verdachte worden veroordeeld, ook al zit deze ergens in het buitenland ondergedoken, voorwaarde is dat er dan voldoende bewijs voorhanden moet zijn tegen de verdachte……

Juist bij dat laatste wringt de schoen van het OM in Zweden, immers men stelde daar eerder dat er geen bewijs was gevonden voor de schuld van Assange, ofwel deze aanklacht werd alleen ingediend om Assange uit te kunnen leveren aan de VS…… Uitermate vreemd dan ook dat het Zweedse OM nu toch doorgaat met deze zaak en daarom het teken dat de VS de grote verantwoordelijke is op de achtergrond….

Blijkbaar laat ook Zweden net als GB de oren hangen naar de eis tot uitlevering van Assange door de VS….. Grote kans dat Assange wordt uitgeleverd aan Zweden, waarna deze in een schertsproces wordt vrijgesproken van schuld, waarna hij direct wordt vastgenomen en in zeer korte tijd zal worden uitgeleverd, op basis van een hele berg VS leugens…..

Eerder heb ik al in een paar berichten ‘journalist’ Kuitenbrouwer en diens kruistocht tegen Assange en WikiLeaks genoemd en beloofd daar op terug te komen, bij deze.

Op zaterdag 13 april jl. was Kuitenbrouwer te gast in het megasuffe Radio1 programma MAX Weekend. Deze schoft durfde echt te beweren dat WikiLeaks de beelden heeft gemanipuleerd waarin je VS militairen van een helikopter op burgers en 2 journalisten ziet schieten en deze mensen daarbij daadwerkelijk vermoordt…….

Je zou toch denken dat iemand die zich als Kuitenbrouwer journalist durft te noemen, als veel collega’s woedend zou zijn over de moord op collega’s, maar niet Jan Kuitenbrouwer…… (overigens waren ook de reacties in andere reguliere westerse media op die moorden nogal lauw….) Volgens Kuitenbrouwer is er geknipt en geplakt in de beelden, echter zelfs als je de lange versie van deze video ziet, valt er niets anders te concluderen dan dat deze VS oorlogsmisdadigers burgers en journalisten vermoordden, zonder dat daar ook maar enige reden voor was……..

Dat was het nog niet beste bezoeker, Kuitenbrouwer noemde Julian Assange een charlatan en een warhoofd, waar Assange zoals bekend kan worden geacht (ook bij Kuitenbrouwer) een echte journalist is, die een flink aantal keren is geëerd voor zijn werk….. Tja ‘journalist’ Kuitenbrouwer roept wat, zonder daar ook maar één steekhoudend bewijs voor te leveren en denkt vervolgens dat iedereen de kul wel zal geloven, immers Kuitenbrouwer is al zolang ‘journalist’, dat alles wat hij zegt ‘wel waar moet zijn……’ (lullig genoeg kan je er donder op zeggen dat het gros van de luisteraars naar dit Radio1 programma deze flapdrol inderdaad gelooft, logisch daar hem niet één kritische vraag werd gesteld…)

Kuitenbrouwer vervolgde met te zeggen dat de documenten op WikiLeaks alleen worden ‘geëdit’ door Assange…… Waar haalt deze hufter het lef vandaan zo keihard te liegen, immers hij moet weten dat Assange en zijn team aanvankelijk samenwerkten met een paar redacties, zoals die van de New York Times en in GB The Guardian…..

Vreemd genoeg stelde Kuitenbrouwer even later dat Assange af en toe de kraan openzet van WikiLeaks en met deze vergelijking stelt Kuitenbrouwer dat Assange publiceert zonder ook maar iets te ‘editen…..’ Tja, als ‘gerenommeerd journalist’ mag je blijkbaar zomaar een kilometer uit je nek zwetsen, zonder in de gaten te houden wat je zojuist aan leugens oplepelde…….

Op het moment dat Kuitenbrouwer op 13 april te gast was op Radio1, was Russiagate al als een kaartenhuis in elkaar gestort, toch herhaalde deze hufter dat Assange de presidentsverkiezing van oorlogsmisdadiger Hillary Clinton heeft gestolen…… Terwijl intussen meer dan duidelijk is dat Clintons campagnemedewerker Seth Rich een enorm aantal mails en documenten heeft gelekt naar WikiLeaks, daar hij goed pissig was over het stelen van de voorverkiezingen door Clinton en haar team (DNC) van Bernie Sanders, de andere democratische presidentskandidaat…… Rich werd volgens de politie vermoord bij een roofoverval op straat, terwijl zijn geld en zichtbare sieraden niet werden gestolen (ofwel Richt is het slachtoffer van een politieke moord, waarschijnlijk gepleegd door, of in opdracht van de FBI, of de CIA……)

Het meest schunnige eigenlijk was wel de uitlating van Kuitenbrouwer dat Assange mensen in gevaar heeft gebracht en dat een aantal van hen waarschijnlijk wel zijn onthoofd door de Taliban……. Zie wat dit betreft nogmaals het voorgaande.

Kuitenbrouwer ‘heeft jarenlang rechten gestudeerd in de VS’ (niet dus), vandaar zijn uitlating dat Assange niet zo moeilijk moet doen, over een gevangenisstraf van 5 tot maximaal 7 jaar……. Kuitenbrouwer herhaalde hiermee wat al eerder door anderen werd gesteld, waar men vergeet dat de VS bezig is om nog veel meer klachten tegen Assange op te stellen……. Verder weer Kuitenbrouwer niet, of hij verzweeg hierbij het feit dat mensen als Assange worden gemarteld, hetzelfde overkwam Chelsea Manning in de gevangenis….. Bovendien heeft Kuitenbrouwer ooit één dag gevangen gezeten, dat hij kan uitmaken dat 5 of 7 jaar gevangenisstraf een fluitje van een cent is…???

Kortom niet Assange is een charlatan en warhoofd, maar Kuitenbrouwer, al moet daar aan toegevoegd worden dat hij tevens een enorme leugenaar en fantast is…….

De reguliere westerse media hielenlikkers kunnen er maar geen genoeg van krijgen: Assange is geen journalist en heeft misdadig staatsgeheimen gelekt waarvan anderen het slachtoffer zijn geworden…..

Die laatste beschuldiging doet meer en meer opgang: met veel omhaal verklaren vertegenwoordigers van mediaorganen dat Assange geen journalist is en dat hij mensen in gevaar heeft gebracht…… Hoorde Jan Kuitenbrouwer, een vervelende hufter die zich journalist durft te noemen, zeggen dat door de schuld van Assange hoogstwaarschijnlijk mensen zijn onthoofd……
Pedante leugenaar Kuitenbrouwer had kunnen weten, althans als hij ‘zijn beroep’ serieus had genomen, dat uit alle gepubliceerde documenten namen en verwijzingen naar personen zijn verwijderd, maar ach je roept het tien keer en de hele goegemeente gelooft zijn gebagger…… WikiLeaks heeft zelfs afspraken gemaakt met dagbladen (als de New York Times) over de publicaties uit de verzamelde documenten en wat daar wel en niet uit zou mogen worden gepubliceerd (later meer over de schunnige uitlatingen van de belachelijke kwast Kuitenbrouwer)

 Let wel: schoften als Kuitenbrouwer vergeten voor het gemak dat landen als de VS en GB expres de getallen gedode burgers laag houden, terwijl uit de documenten blijkt dat ze onnoemelijk meer burgers hebben vermoord….. Het is dan toch wel een gotspe als zogenaamde journalisten durven te zeggen dat het niet in het algemeen belang is dergelijk zaken naar buiten te brengen……
Ach het gaat als met Russiagate, duizenden journalisten van de reguliere westerse media hebben dik meer dan 2 jaar lang de leugens als waarheid herhaald dat Rusland de VS presidentsverkiezingen van 2016 zou hebben gemanipuleerd en wel op zo’n manier dat Trump aan het bewind kwam….. Smerige leugens zo bleek een paar weken geleden uit onderzoek van speciaal aanklager Mueller…….. Leugens waarvoor de reguliere westerse media geen excuus hebben aangeboden (immers ze hadden kunnen weten dat het een onzin verhaal was), nee men houdt die leugens nog steeds vol, zoals ik niet alleen op de Nederlandse, maar ook op de Duitse, Britse en Belgische radio dag in dag uit weer hoor voorbijkomen……
De VN heeft de ‘huisvesting’ van Assange in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade tot een onwettig detentie verklaard, niet moeilijk te bedenken wat men daar nu denkt over de ontvoering van Assange uit de Ecuadoraanse ambassade…….. Destijds stelde de VN dat GB Assange moest laten gaan, echter GB ging niet eens in beroep tegen deze uitspraak en doet verder of de neus bloedt……
Edward Snowden noemt in het artikel van The Canary, hieronder opgenomen en geschreven door James Wright, alle prijzen die WikiLeaks en daarmee Assange in de loop van de jaren als echte journalist hebben vergaard en dat was bepaald niet omdat men hem niet als journalist zag, of dat men WikiLeaks als een verraad en gevaar voor de staatsveiligheid zag (zoals veel journalisten als een verzinsel brachten….)…..

The arrest
Aside from a breach of bail (see a timeline of his case here), Assange’s arrest concerns an extradition request from the US. The now unsealed indictment alleges that Assange is guilty of ‘conspiring to commit computer intrusion’. It claims that Assange helped whistleblower Chelsea Manning crack passwords in order to make it more difficult to identify her as the source of the Iraq and Afghanistan war logs.
The Iraq war logs showed that US and UK officials lied about having no official statistics on deaths. The leaks identified over 66,000 civilian deaths from 2004 to the end of 2009. They also revealed that the US military indiscriminately gunned down over a dozen people in Baghdad, including two Reuters media staff.
The Afghanistan war documents, meanwhile, showed that the US-led coalition forces killed hundreds of civilians. They then attempted to conceal their conduct. The documents also revealed the US-led coalition’s widespread use of death squads and drones to kill suspects without trial.
‘Unlawfully detained’
In response to Assange’s situation, the former WikiLeaks editor has many international organisations defending his human rights. Recently, the UN’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention reiterated a ruling it made in 2015. It concluded that the UK government was ‘arbitrarily detaining’ Assange and demanded that the authorities allow him to leave. The Conservative administration tried to appeal the UN ruling but failed, and has since then ignored it.
WikiLeaks is an independent media organisation that specialises in publishing information from whistleblowers that it deems to be in the public interest. The publisher has also released documents on governments across the world, including the US, Iran, Kenya, and China, as well as on the UK far right.
In short, Snowden is spot on that this is fundamentally about press freedom. Washington is trying to crush a dissident journalist for revealing its crimes. This is an attack on the world’s right to knowledge; and we must resist it as such.

Ook na het bovenstaande artikel kan je niets anders concluderen dan dat de reguliere westerse (massa-) media zich de oren van de kop moeten schamen over het feit dat men nog kritiek durft te leveren op Assange en zijn werk, openbaringen die elke echte journalist zou brengen als hij/zij dergelijke smerige documenten over o.a. massamoorden en de terreur van de VS onder ogen krijgt, ook als men die in de VS als ‘staatsgeheim’ onder de pet wil houden…..

Westerse massamedia lopen aan de leiband van plutocraten, de neoliberale politiek en geheime diensten

Caitlin Johnstone heeft zich over de berichtgeving van de massamedia gebogen en zet een aantal feiten wat betreft de reguliere (massa-) media op een rij, waarbij ze tot verrassende inzichten komt.
Als eerste buigt Johnstone zich over de vraag waarom journalisten van de reguliere media in ‘vrije democratieën’ (‘een beetje dubbelop’) zich gedragen als hun collega’s van staatsmedia propagandisten. Waarom gedragen ze zich als betrouwbare vertegenwoordigers van de gevestigde orde en waarom wordt elk idee gemarginaliseerd dat niet past in wat op een bepaald moment als een correcte gedachte wordt gezien? (en dat kan op zeer grove manier gebeuren, zie de smerige en uiterst valse berichtgeving over de Britse Labour leider Jeremy Corbyn door de reguliere media waar ook de BBC deel van uitmaakt, al kan je die ‘onafhankelijke zendgemachtigde’ als staatsomroep onder een dictatuur zien)

Waarom worden mensen die de gevestigde orde bekritiseren altijd door de media veroordeeld? Waarom worden ‘fouten’ in een land dat buiten de invloedssfeer en de macht van de gecentraliseerde VS-alliantie valt, zo kritisch becommentarieerd door de reguliere (westerse) media, terwijl fouten binnen die alliantie worden vergeven, of veelal zelfs niet worden genoemd?
Volgens Johnstone zijn er maar twee verklaringen voor die unanieme instemming van de reguliere media op die onderwerpen:
Die instemming bestaat omdat die media altijd de waarheid zouden vertellen, of die instemming bestaat omdat er een systeem is ontstaan, waarin de journalisten van de reguliere media ons voorliegen en een vals beeld schetsen van wat er gebeurt in de wereld.
Volgens Johnstone zijn dit de enige mogelijkheden, waarbij ze de eerste uiteraard afwijst, immers als deze media altijd de waarheid vertellen, zouden deze media niet de leugens herhalen over bijvoorbeeld de oorlogen in Vietnam en Irak, ofwel dan zou het afslachten van miljoenen op grond van leugens niet zijn verdedigd in die media………

Eén en ander betekent overigens niet dat de grote reguliere media alleen maar liegen, immers dan zou men de klanten snel verliezen, nee men brengt natuurlijk ook echt nieuws, naast halve waarheden, verdraaide feiten en de al genoemde leugens.
Lees het artikel van Johnstone, zij legt deze zaak duidelijk uit, waarna de conclusie wordt getrokken dat de media inderdaad aan de leiband lopen van plutocraten of fondsen van aandeelhouders (oké dat was al bekend, maar Johnstone geeft het geheel handen en voeten). Voorts meldt Johnstone ten overvloede nog eens dat de CIA al sinds de 50er jaren van de vorige eeuw bemoeienis heeft met de reguliere (massa-) media in de VS…….

The way I see it there are only two possible explanations for the unanimous consensus in mass media on these issues:

Explanation 1: The consensus exists because the mass media reporters are all telling the truth all the time.

OR

Explanation 2: The consensus exists because there is some kind of system in place which keeps all mass media reporters lying to us and painting a false picture about what’s going on in the world.
Those are the only two possibilities, and only one can be true, since any mixture of the two would result in the loss of consensus.
Most mainstream westerners harbor an unquestioned assumption that Explanation 1 is the only possibility. The things they see on CNN, the BBC and the ABC are all accurate descriptions of what’s really going on in the world, and the consensus in their descriptions exists because they’re all describing the same objective reality.
But what would that mean exactly? Well, for starters if the mainstream media reporters are telling us the truth all the time it would mean that the same power institutions which slaughtered millions in Vietnam and Iraq for no good reason are actually virtuous and honest. It would mean the positive, uncritical picture that is consistently painted of those same institutions which wage nonstop campaigns of bloodshed and oppression to ensure the profit of economic manipulators and war profiteers is due to those institutions possessing merits which are overall so positive that no criticism of them is needed. It would mean that the status quo of climate destruction, steadily growing wealth inequality, an increasingly Orwellian surveillance system, an increasingly militarized police force, increasing internet censorship, and crushing neoliberal austerity measures are all things people voted for using the excellent democratic political system the mainstream media defends, based on the accurate information the mainstream media gave them about what’s in their best interests.
Explanation 1 sounds improbable in that light. We know that the system is spectacularly screwed up, and we know that the political establishment which these mainstream outlets always defend does unforgivably evil things, so we should expect to see a lot more critical reporting and a lot less protecting of the status quo. But we don’t. We see war crimes ignored, oppression justified, the two-headed one-party system normalized, dissident narratives smeared as fake news conspiracy theories, and unproven assertions by government agencies with a known history of lying reported as unquestionable fact.
But that leaves only Explanation 2. How could that be right?
This part of a 1996 interview between Noam Chomsky and the BBC’s Andrew Marr describes a foundational element of Explanation 2: that there is a system in place which ensures that all the reporters in positions of influence are there not to report factually on the news of the day, but to sell a particular narrative that is friendly to the state and the status quo. Chomsky describes a “filtering system” which ensures that only those loyal to power rise to the top within the plutocrat-owned media, to which Marr objects and insists that his peers are brave truth-tellers who hold power to account. Subsequently, the following exchange takes place:
”Chomsky: Well, I know some of the best, and best known investigative reporters in the United States, I won’t mention names, whose attitude towards the media is much more cynical than mine. In fact, they regard the media as a sham. And they know, and they consciously talk about how they try to play it like a violin. If they see a little opening, they’ll try to squeeze something in that ordinarily wouldn’t make it through. And it’s perfectly true that the majority – I’m sure you’re speaking for the majority of journalists who are trained, have it driven into their heads, that this is a crusading profession, adversarial, we stand up against power. A very self-serving view. On the other hand, in my opinion, I hate to make a value judgement but, the better journalists and in fact the ones who are often regarded as the best journalists have quite a different picture. And I think a very realistic one.
Marr: How can you know that I’m self-censoring? How can you know that journalists are..
Chomsky: I’m not saying your self censoring. I’m sure you believe everything you’re saying. But what I’m saying is that if you believed something different, you wouldn’t be sitting where you’re sitting”.

It is an obvious fact that mainstream media outlets are owned by the extremely wealthy, as has been the case for a very long time. Owning media is in and of itself a profitable investment, “like having a license to print your own money” as Canadian television magnate Roy Thomson once put it. So when it comes to the news media outlets which form people’s perceptions of the world, what incentive would a powerful plutocrat have to platform anti-establishment voices on those outlets and help sow ideas which upset the status quo upon which said plutocrat has built his empire? It certainly wouldn’t make him any more money, and if anti-establishment ideas like socialism, anarchism, non-interventionism or skepticism of government agencies gained popular footing in public consciousness, it could upset the foundation of the plutocrat’s dynasty and cause him to lose everything.
Plutocrats have put a lot of energy into influencing government policy in order to create legislation which ensures the continued growth of their wealth and power. A whole lot of maneuvering has had to happen over the course of many years to create a political system wherein government bribery is legal in the form of campaign finance and corporate lobbying, wherein deregulation of corporations is the norm, wherein tax loopholes are abundant and tax burdens are shifted to the middle class, wherein money hemorrhages upward to the wealthiest of the wealthy while ordinary people grow poorer and poorer. What incentive would these powerful oligarchs have to risk upsetting that delicate balancing act by helping to circulate ideas which challenge the very governmental system they’ve worked so hard to manipulate to their extreme advantage? And how many incentives would they have to keep everyone supporting the status quo?
How hard would it be to simply decline to give anti-establishment voices a platform, and platform establishment loyalists instead? How easy would it be for a wealthy media owner or influential investor to ensure that only establishment loyalists are given the job of hiring and promoting editors and reporters in a mainstream media outlet?

If you’ve ever wondered what motivates all those blue-checkmarked corporate media journalists to spend so much time on Twitter defending the powerful and attacking the disempowered, this is your answer. They spend their own free time smearing Jill Stein, calling Jeremy Corbyn an antisemite, attacking Julian Assange, supporting longtime neoconservative war agendas against Russia, Syria and Iran and uncritically reporting intelligence agency assertions as fact not because there’s a CIA officer hovering over their shoulder at all times telling them exactly what to tweet, but because they’re auditioning for a job. They’re creating a public record of their establishment loyalism which current and future employers will look at when weighing hiring and promotion decisions, which is why both journalism schools and journalism employers now encourage journalists to cultivate a social media presence to “build their brand”, i.e. their public resume.
So it’s very easy to fill mass media jobs with minds which are not predisposed toward rocking the boat. A pro-establishment consensus is artificially built, and now you’ve got an environment where someone who stands up and says “Uh, hey, so we still haven’t seen any actual hard evidence that Russia interfered in the US election in any meaningful way” or whatever is instantly greeted by a wall of shunning and shaming (observe Aaron Maté‘s interactions with other journalists on social media for a good example of this), which can be psychologically difficult to deal with.

Anyone who’s ever gone to high school can understand how powerful the social pressures to seek peer approval and fit in can be, and anyone who’s ever worked a normal job anywhere can understand the natural incentives that are in place to behave in a way that is pleasing to one’s bosses. In any job with any kind of hierarchy, you quickly learn the written rules, and you pay close attention to social cues to learn the unwritten ones as well. You do this in order to learn how to avoid getting in trouble and how to win the approval of your superiors, to learn which sorts of behaviors can lead to raises and promotions, and which behaviors will lead to a career dead-end. You learn what will earn you a pat on the back from a leader, which can be extremely egoically gratifying and incentivizing in and of itself.

It works exactly the same way in news media. Reporters might not always be consciously aware of all the pro-establishment guidelines they’re expected to follow in order to advance their careers, but they know how the reporters who’ve ascended to the top of the media ladder conduct themselves, and they see how the journalists who win the accolades behave. With the help of editors and peers you quickly learn where all the third rails and sacred cows are, and when to shut your mouth about the elephant in the room. And for those rare times that all these filtration devices fail to adequately filter out dissident ideas, you see the example that gets made of those few who slip between the cracks, like CNN contributor Marc Lamont Hill for his defense of Palestinian human rights or Phil Donahue for his opposition to the Iraq invasion.

So plutocrats own the mass media and platform status quo-friendly voices, which creates an environment full of peer pressure to conform and workplace pressure to advance establishment-friendly narratives. Add to this the phenomenon of access journalism, wherein journalists are incentivized to cozy up to power and pitch softball questions to officials in order to gain access to them, and things get even more slanted. It’s easy to understand how all this can create an environment of consensus which has nothing to do with facts or reality, but rather with what narratives favor the US-centralized empire and the plutocrats who control it. But all those dynamics aren’t the only factors going into making sure a consensus worldview is maintained. Remember that hypothetical CIA officer I mentioned earlier who isn’t actively leaning over every journalist’s shoulder and dictating what they tweet? Well, just because he’s not dictating every word produced by the mass media machine doesn’t mean he’s not involved.

Secretive and unaccountable government agencies have an extensive and well-documented record of involving themselves with news media outlets. It is a known and undisputed fact that the Central Intelligence Agency has been intimately involved in America’s news media since the 1950s, and it remains so to this day. In 2014 it was a scandal when reporter Ken Dilanian was caught collaborating with the CIA in his publications, but now veterans of the US intelligence community like John Brennan and James Clapper openly fill out the line-up of talking heads on MSNBC and CNN. Just recently the Guardian published a lie-filled smear piece on Julian Assange which was almost certainly the resultof the outlet’s collaboration with one or more intelligence and/or defense agencies, and when that article caused an outcry it was defended as the likely result of Russian disinformation in an evidence-free article by a CIA veteran who was permitted to publish anonymously in Politico. The Washington Post is solely owned by Jeff Bezos, who is a CIA contractor, and who we may be certain did not purchase the Post under the illusion that newspapers were about to make a lucrative comeback. Secretive government agencies are deeply involved in the workings of western news media, in many ways we know about, and in far more ways we don’t know about.
Taking all of these factors into consideration and revisiting Explanation 1 and Explanation 2 from the beginning of this article, it should be obvious to you that the most logical explanation for the uniform consensus of support for pro-establishment narratives in the mass media exists because there is indeed a system in place which keeps all mass media reporters lying to us and painting a false picture about what’s going on in the world.
This doesn’t mean that these news media outlets lie about everything all the time, it means they mostly provide half-truths, distortions and lies by omission whenever it benefits the agendas of the powerful, which is functionally the same as lying all the time. I sometimes get people telling me “Caitlin! The MSM lies all the time, and they say global warming is real! That means it’s false!” But it doesn’t work that way; if the TV tells you a celebrity has died then it’s probably true, and if they say it’s about to rain you should probably roll up your car windows. If they lied about everything all the time they would instantly lose all credibility, and their ability to propagandize effectively would be lost. Instead, they advance evidence-free narratives asserted by opaque government agencies, they avoid highlighting inconvenient truths, they ignore third parties and dissident ideas except to dismiss them, they harshly criticize the misdeeds of governments which oppose the US-centralized empire while sweeping the misdeeds of imperial members under the rug, and when there’s an opportunity to sabotage peace or support war, they seize it. They distort only when they have to, and only as much as they need to.
In this way the powerful have succeeded in controlling the people’s narratives about what’s happening in their country and their world. This is the system of narrative manipulation we are up against when we try to sow dissident ideas into public consciousness, and as the old adage goes, it is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.
And yet we are gaining ground. The manipulators have been losing control of the narrative, which is why the mass media have been acting so weird and desperate since 2016. The unelected power establishment failed to manufacture support for its would-be Syria invasion, it failed to get the publicto buy into the Russia hysteria, trust in the mass media is at an all-time low, and it’s continuing to plummet. More and more people are waking up to the fact that they are being lied to, which is good, because the only thing keeping them from pushing for real change is the fact that there are all these screens in everyone’s lives telling them that real change isn’t needed.
The liars are against the ropes, and they’re starting to look winded. A populist information revolutionis looking more winnable than ever.

The Guardian durft te beweren dat Paul Manafort meermaals contact had met Julian Assange in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in Londen, dit voorafgaand aan de verkiezingen in 2016, bovendien zou Manafort Assange eerder hebben bezocht in 2013 en 2015……..
Blijkbaar werkt de speciaal aanklager Robert Mueller samen met The Guardian in het promoten van het sprookje dat men ‘Russia Gate’ noemt, daar hij ‘geheel toevallig’ afgelopen maandag het bericht naar buiten bracht dat Manafort de voorwaarden voor een plea bargain had gebroken en meermaals heeft gelogen tegen de FBI (Manafort zit een gevangenisstraf uit)……. Sterker nog: Manafort zou volgens Mueller naast te hebben gelogen ook misdaden hebben begaan in een groot aantal zaken…….
The Guardian weet te melden dat de Ecuadoraanse inlichtingendienst bewijzen zou hebben van het bezoek dat Manafort bracht aan de Ecuadoraanse ambassade, dit nog naast dezelfde claim van een persoon die niet bekend is bij de FBI, ofwel een anonieme ‘bron….’
Volgens The Guardian heeft Manafort in de lente van 2016 een bezoek van 40 minuten gebracht aan Assange, waar men zelfs weet te vertellen welke kleding hij droeg (om twijfelaars te overtuigen…)…. Vreemd genoeg moeten bezoekers aan de Ecuadoraanse ambassade zich registreren, echter volgens medewerkers van de ambassade staat de naam Manafort niet één keer genoteerd in het betreffende register……..
Voorts weet The Guardian te melden dat de de Russiche militaire geheime dienst GROe de Democraten zou hebben gehackt, een claim waarvan we weten dat die totaal zonder enig bewijs keer op keer wordt herhaald…… Men wil zelfs niet uitgaan van de mogelijkheid dat de documenten lokaal, dus in de VS zijn gekopieerd en aan WikiLeaks zijn verzonden…..

Seth Rich, een medewerker van het DNC, het democratische campagneteam dat Hillary Clinton bijstond tijdens de voorverkiezingen, heeft uit frustratie over de smerige campagne van Clinton tegen de andere democratische kandidaat Bernie Sanders, een enorm aantal documenten gelekt naar WikiLeaks…… Enige tijd later zou Rich zijn vermoord tijdens een beroving, aldus de politie, waarbij vreemd genoeg niets van hem werd gestolen……..
Lees het volgende artikel van Tyler Durden, gepubliceerd op Zero Hedge (door mij overgenomen van Anti-Media), in de niet eindigende soap die men ‘Russiagate’ noemt, terwijl intussen duidelijk is geworden dat m.n. Nogmaals laat The Guardian zien dat het een trouwe lobbyist is van het neoliberalisme, het militair-industrieel complex en de ongebreidelde terreur van de VS…… Verder heeft The Guardian geen moeite om voor deze zaken fake news (nepnieuws) te verspreiden, zelfs niet als daar meer dan 2 miljoen mensen door omkomen, zoals de valse berichtgeving van The Guardian over de illegale oorlogen van de VS tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië…… Die 1 miljoen dollar kan The Guardian dan ook vergeten!!

The Guardian‘s report was written by Luke Harding and Dan Collyns, and was based exclusively on unnamed sources.

Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, held secret talks with Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, right around the time he joined Trump’s campaign, according to The Guardian, which as is now the norm in reports of this kind refers to unnamed “sources.”

Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 – during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump’s push for the White House.

It is unclear why Manafort wanted to see Assange and what was discussed. But the last meeting is likely to come under scrutiny and could interest Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor who is investigating alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

A well-placed source has told the Guardian that Manafort went to see Assange around March 2016. Months later WikiLeaks released a stash of Democratic emails stolen by Russian intelligence officers. – The Guardian

The 69-year-old Manafort has denied any involvement in the release of the emails, and has said that the claim is “100% false.”
While Manafort was jailed this year under a plea agreement with special counsel Robert Mueller, on Monday, Mueller said that Manafort had repeatedly lied to the FBI, breaching his deal. According to documents filed in court, Manafort committed “crimes and lies” covering a “variety of subject matters.”

According to The Guardian, Manafort’s first visit to the Ecuadorian embassy occurred one year after Assange was granted asylum inside, according to two sources. To add icing to the cake, “a separate internal document written by Ecuador’s Senian Intelligence agency and seen by The Guardian lists “Paul Manaford [sic]” as one of Assange’s several well-known guests, along with… “Russians.”

According to two sources, Manafort returned to the embassy in 2015. He paid another visit in spring 2016, turning up alone, around the time Trump named him as his convention manager. The visit is tentatively dated to March.

Manafort’s 2016 visit to Assange lasted about 40 minutes, one source said, adding that the American was casually dressed when he exited the embassy, wearing sandy-coloured chinos, a cardigan and a light-coloured shirt.

Visitors normally register with embassy security guards and show their passports. Sources in Ecuador, however, say Manafort was not logged. – The Guardian

So we have Manafort allegedly visiting Assange, in sandy-coloured chinos, and that Russians also visited the WikiLeaks founder. And none of this was known until today.
The Guardian goes on to suggest that “The revelation could shed new light on the sequence of events in the run-up to summer 2016, when WikiLeaks published tens of thousands of emails hacked by the GRU*, Russia’s military intelligence agency. Hillary Clinton has said the hack contributed to her defeat.”
Note that The Guardian has considered the “hack” settled, which agrees with Western intelligence assessments (the same Western intelligence that conducted espionage on Donald Trump’s campaign). Nowhere to be found is the possibility that the emails were copied locally – a theory recently bolstered by a fresh analysis that flies in the face of a report commissioned by cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike – which was caught fabricating a report on Russia hacking Ukrainian munitions, and was forced to retract portions of their analysis after the government of Ukraine admonished them.

The Guardian goes on to link Manafort to “black operations” against the political rival of Ukraine’s former “Moscow-friendly president, Viktor Yanukovych,” and that Manafort “flew frequently from the US to Ukraine’s capital, Kiev – usually via Frankfurt but sometimes through London.”

Manafort is currently in jail in Alexandria, Virginia. In August a jury convicted him of crimes arising from his decade-long activities in Ukraine. They include large-scale money laundering and failure to pay US tax. Manafort pleaded guilty to further charges in order to avoid a second trial in Washington.

As well as accusing him of lying on Monday, the special counsel moved to set a date for Manafort to be sentenced.

One person familiar with WikiLeaks said Assange was motivated to damage the Democrats campaign because he believed a future Trump administration would be less likely to seek his extradition on possible charges of espionage. This fate had hung over Assange since 2010, when he released confidential US state department cables. It contributed to his decision to take refuge in the embassy. – The Guardian

And in perhaps the most shocking part of The Guardian‘s reporting, they refer to the highly salacious and largely discredited “Steele Dossier,”** saying that according to the document, Manafort was at the center of a “well-developed conspiracy of cooperation” between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, and that both sides had a mutual interest in defeating Clinton, wrote former MI6 spy Christopher Steele.

In a memo written soon after the DNC emails were published, Steele said: “The [hacking] operation had been conducted with the full knowledge and support of Trump and senior members of his campaign team.” – The Guardian

You know things are desperate when the Steele Dossier makes a guest appearance to once again bolster unsupported reporting.

Door de weigering Assange te verdedigen, tonen de reguliere media hun ware gezicht, aldus de kop van een artikel van Caitlin Johnstone op Media.com en hieronder overgenomen van Anti-Media. Een top advocaat van de New York Times (NYT), David McCraw waarschuwde een zaal vol rechters dat de vervolging van WikiLeaks journalist Julian Assange een gevaarlijk precedent zal scheppen en zou kunnen eindigen met het beschadigen van de reguliere (massa-) media….. (ha! ha! ha! Wat er nog te beschadigen is aan de reguliere media is me een raadsel, gezien het enorme gehalte aan nepnieuws [‘fake news] en de leugens die daar dag in dag uit ten toon worden gespreid…..)
Volgens McCraw zullen wetshandhavers uiteindelijk weinig verschil kunnen zien tussen een internetplatform als WikiLeaks en mediaorganen als de New York Times en de Washington Post (WaPo)….. Lullig werden de woorden van McCraw niet gepubliceerd in ‘zijn eigen’ NYT….. (!!) Echter zolang de reguliere media de leugens van politiek en geheime diensten maar blijven herhalen, zal er geen vuiltje aan de lucht zijn…..
Het publiceren van o.a. uitgelekte gegevens die geheim werden gehouden voor het volk, is in feite de taak van de echte journalistiek, immers het is de taak van de journalistiek om de machthebbers te controleren, het volk daarover in te lichten* en het publiek tevens te leren kritisch naar de machthebbers te kijken…..
Daar wringt dan ook de schoen aldus Johnstone, de reguliere media hebben deze taken al lang bij het grofvuil gezet en schikken zich naar de eisen van overheid en degenen die deze media in handen hebben, miljardairs en beursgenoteerde bedrijven……… Niet voor niets dat de journalisten van de reguliere media Assange keer op keer demoniseren en de leugens van de politiek en geheime diensten als CIA en FBI (notoire leugenaars) over bijvoorbeeld de zogenaamde bemoeienis van Rusland met de VS verkiezingen blijven herhalen, ook al is er geen nanometer bewijs voor……

Daarover gesproken: hoorde onlangs een Belgische ‘journalist’ die het gore lef had te zeggen dat hij de ‘stapel aan bewijzen’ voor die Russische inmenging met de VS presidentsverkiezingen had gelezen, een keiharde leugen, daar die bewijzen (nog steeds) niet bestaan…..

(CJ Opinion) — Last Tuesday a top lawyer for the New York Times named David McCraw warned a room full of judges that the prosecution of Julian Assange for WikiLeaks publications would set a very dangerous precedent which would end up hurting mainstream news media outlets like NYT, the Washington Post, and other outlets which publish secret government documents.
“I think the prosecution of him would be a very, very bad precedent for publishers,” McCraw said. “From that incident, from everything I know, he’s sort of in a classic publisher’s position and I think the law would have a very hard time drawing a distinction between The New York Times and WikiLeaks.”
Do you know where I read about this? Not in the New York Times.
“Curiously, as of this writing, McCraw’s words have found no mention in the Times itself,” activist Ray McGovern wrote for the alternative media outlet Consortium News. “In recent years, the newspaper has shown a marked proclivity to avoid printing anything that might risk its front row seat at the government trough.”

So let’s unpack that a bit. It is now public knowledge that the Ecuadorian government is actively seeking to turn Assange over to be arrested by the British government. This was initially reported by RT, then independently confirmed by The Intercept, and is today full mainstream public knowledge being reported by mainstream outlets like CNN. It is also public knowledge that Assange’s asylum was granted by the Ecuadorian government due to a feared attempt to extradite him to the United States and prosecute him for WikiLeaks publications. Everyone from President Donald Trump to Attorney General Jeff Sessions to now-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to ranking House Intelligence Committee member Adam Schiff to Democratic members of the US Senate have made public statements clearly indicating that there is a US government interest in getting Assange out of the shelter of political asylum and into prison.
The New York Times is aware of this, and as evidenced by McCraw’s comments it is also aware of the dangerous precedent that such a prosecution would set for all news media publications. The New York Times editorial staff are aware that the US government prosecuting a publisher for publishing important documents that had been hidden from the public would make it impossible for the Times to publish the same kind of material without fear of the same legal repercussions. It is aware that the maneuvers being taken against Assange present a very real existential threat to the possibility of real journalism and holding power to account.
You might think, therefore, that we’d be seeing a flood of analyses and op-eds from the New York Times aggressively condemning any movement toward the prosecution of Julian Assange. You might expect all media outlets in America to be constantly sounding the alarm about this, especially since the threat is coming from the Trump administration, which outlets like the New York Timesare always eager to circulate dire warnings about. You might expect every talking head on CNN and NBC to be ominously citing Assange as the clearest and most egregious case yet of Trump’s infamous “war on the free press”. Leaving aside the issues of morality, compassion and human rights that come with Assange’s case, you might think that if for no other reason than sheer unenlightened self interest they’d be loudly and aggressively defending him.
And yet, they don’t. And the fact that they don’t shows us what they really are.

Theoretically, journalism is meant to help create an informed populace and hold power to account. That’s why it’s the only profession explicitly named in the United States Constitution, and why freedom of the press has enjoyed such constitutional protections throughout US history. The press today is failing to protect Julian Assange because it has no intention of creating an informed populace or holding power to account.
This is not to suggest the existence of some grand, secret conspiracy among US journalists. It’s just a simple fact that plutocrats own most of the US news media and hire the people who run it, which has naturally created an environment where the best way to advance one’s career is to remain perpetually inoffensive to the establishment upon which plutocrats have built their respective empires. This is why you see ambitious reporters on Twitter falling all over themselves to be the first with a pithy line that advances establishment agendas whenever breaking news presents an opportunity to do so; they are aware that their social media presence is being assessed by potential employers and allies for establishment loyalism. This also why so many of those aspiring journalists attack Assange and WikiLeaks whenever possible.
“Everyone hoping to gain admission to the cultural elite must now strenuously cultivate their social media so as to avoid controversy,” journalist Michael Tracey observed recently. “Eventually they will internalize controversy-avoidance as a virtue, not a societal imposition. Result: a more boring, conformist elite culture.”
A great way for an aspiring journalist to avoid controversy is to never, ever defend Assange or WikiLeaks on social media or in any media outlet, and certainly under no circumstances allow yourself to look like the sort of journo who might someday publish the sorts of materials that WikiLeaks publishes. An excellent way to prove yourself is to become yet another author of yet another one of the many, many smear pieces that have been written about Assange and WikiLeaks.

Mainstream media outlets and those who thrive within them have no intention of rocking the boat and losing their hard-earned privilege and access. Conservative mass media will continue to defend the US president, and liberal media will continue to defend the CIA and the FBI. Both will help advance war, ecocide, military expansionism, surveillance and police militarization, and none will leak anything that is damaging to the power structures that they have learned to serve. They will remain innocuous, uncontroversial defenders of the rich and powerful at all times.
Meanwhile, alternative media outlets are defending Assange ferociously. Just today I’ve seen articles from Consortium News, World Socialist Website, Disobedient Media, Antiwar and Common Dreams decrying the persecution of the most important government transparency advocate living today. Alternative media outlets and independent writers aren’t bound by establishment servitude, so the value of WikiLeaks is clear as day. One’s eyes are only blinded to the pernicious behaviors of power when power is signing one’s paycheck.
Mass media outlets in America and around the world have fully discredited themselves with their failure to defend a publisher who actually holds power to account and brings facts into the light of truth to create an informed populace. Every day that goes by where they don’t unequivocally condemn any attempt to prosecute Assange is another day in the pile of evidence that corporate media outlets serve power and not truth. Their silence is a tacit admission that they are nothing other than stenographers and propagandists for the most powerful forces on earth.

Ben het niet geheel eens met de kop van dit bericht, echter het hieronder opgenomen Engelse artikel met de kop die zo ongeveer dezelfde strekking heeft, is een uitstekend artikel waarin de macht van de media aan de kaak wordt gesteld.


Het artikel van Caitlin Johnstone begint met de rel die in de VS ontstond rond de presentator van MSNBC Joy (-Ann) Reid. Deze presentator fantaseert er af en toe graag op los en heeft in het verleden al heel wat zeer foute uitspraken gedaan. Johnstone is daar verder niet zo in geïnteresseerd, maar wel in het feit dat de top van MSNBC deze presentator keer op keer de handen boven het hoofd houdt…………

Het is niet moeilijk teksten op te lezen voor tv, wel is het moeilijk om dag in dag de boel te belazeren en te manipuleren ten gunste van een kleine groep geprivilegieerden, aldus verwoordt Johnstone ‘het werk’ van Reid……. (al moet ik zeggen dat het niet zo moeilijk is om te liegen en bedriegen, zeker als je ziet hoeveel reguliere mediaorganen zich hier schuldig aan maken…) Dezelfde Reid maakt iedereen af in de media die ter linkerzijde van Hillary Clinton staat en noemt zichzelf desondanks ‘links…’ ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! (Reid zou zo bij de PvdA aan kunnen sluiten!)

Voorts stelt Reid dat niemand heeft geprofiteerd van Wikileaks, behalve Rusland dan….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja ik lach wel, maar dergelijke onzinverhalen vindt je overal in de reguliere westerse (massa-) media, ook in ons land. De grootste kul wordt met een serieus gezicht keer op keer opgelepeld en lullig genoeg heeft dit een grote invloed op de westerse bevolkingen dat hoor je pas goed als je de reacties onder krantenberichten leest of inbellers op een actualiteitenprogramma hoort praten. Negen van de tien redeneren vanuit de valse informatie die hen dag in dag uit wordt voorgeschoteld (op een manier die vergeleken kan worden met hersenspoelen)…….

 Bovendien is het wel erg wrang om te stellen dat Rusland baat heeft bij Wikileaks, als je ziet hoe Rusland wordt gedemoniseerd vanwege vermeende manipulaties van o.a. de presidentsverkiezingen in de VS, waar Rusland zelfs werd beschuldigd van het lekken van VS overheidsdocumenten naar Wikileaks……. Wat een idioot moet je zijn om te denken dat Rusland profiteert van de hysterische anti-Russische propaganda in het westen, neem alleen al de sancties die op valse gronden zijn genomen tegen dit land……

 In feite zou een groot deel van de wereld moeten profiteren van Wikileaks, immers in de documenten van Wikileaks valt te lezen hoe smerig de spelletjes van de VS op het wereldtoneel zijn. Jammer genoeg doet bijna niemand iets met deze documenten en blijft men de meer dan valse, fascistische en uiterst gewelddadige VS buitenlandpolitiek door dik en dun steunen……

 Terug naar de claim dat wie het nieuws controleert, de wereld controleert: echter voor het controleren van de wereld is ‘iets’ meer nodig dan de reguliere (massa-) media, zoals het militair-industrieel complex, de geheime diensten (aan wie de hiervoor aangehaalde media lippendiensten bewijzen) en de financiële wereld (beter gezegd: financiële maffia), ofwel deep state…..

En dan durft men in die reguliere media, bijna zonder uitzondering in handen van miljonairs/multimiljonairs en investeringsgroepen, te spreken over fake news (nepnieuws) en manipulatie door sociale media…….

Dezelfde media die een enorm aantal fake news berichten de wereld in hebben gestuurd en sturen, neem alleen al de berichtgeving van die media in aanloop van en tijdens de illegale oorlogen die de VS deze eeuw is begonnen……..

(CJ Opinion) — MSNBC host Joy Reid still has a job. Despite blatantly lying about time-traveling hackers bearing responsibility for bigoted posts a decade ago in her then-barely-known blog, despite her reportedly sparking an FBI investigation on false pretenses, despite her colleagues at MSNBC being completely fed up with how the network is handling the controversy surrounding her, her career just keeps trundling forward like a bullet-riddled zombie.

To be clear, I do not particularly care that Joy Reid has done any of these things. I write about war, nuclear escalations and the sociopathy of US government agencies which kill millions of people; I don’t care that Joy Reid is or was a homophobe, and I don’t care that she lied to cover it up. The war agendas that MSNBC itself promotes on a daily basis are infinitely worse than either of these things, and if that isn’t obvious to you it’s because military propaganda has caused you to compartmentalize yourself out of an intellectually honest understanding of what war is.

What is interesting to me, however, is the fact that Reid’s bosses are protecting her career so adamantly. Both by refusing to fire her, and by steering the conversation into being about her controversial blog posts rather than the fact that she told a spectacular lie in an attempt to cover them up, Reid is being propped up despite this story constantly re-emerging and making new headlines with new embarrassing details, and despite her lack of any discernible talent or redeeming personal characteristics. This tells us something important about what is going on in the world.

It is not difficult to find someone to read from a teleprompter for large amounts of money.
What absolutely is difficult is finding someone who is willing to deceive and manipulate to advance the agendas of the privileged few day after day. Who else would be willing to spend all day on Twitter smearing everyone to the left of Hillary Clinton while still claiming to stand on the political left? Who else would advance the point-blank lie about “17 intelligence agencies” having declared Russia guilty in US election meddling months after that claim had been famously and virally debunked? Who else would publicly claim that Edward Snowden’s NSA leaks did not benefit anyone besides Russia? Who else could oligarchs like Comcast CEO Brian L Roberts, whose company controls MSNBC, count on to consistently advance his agendas?

While it’s easy to find someone you can count on to advance one particular lie at one particular time, it is difficult to find someone you can be absolutely certain will lie for you day after day, year after year, through election cycles and administration changes and new war agendas and changing political climates. A lot of the people who used to advance perspectives which ran against the grain of the political orthodoxy at MSNBC like Phil Donahue, Ed Schultz and Dylan Ratigan have vanished from the airwaves never to return, while reporters who consistently keep their heads down and toe the line for the Democratic establishment like Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid are richly rewarded and encouraged to remain.

The disempowered want change; those in power want predictability and consistency. The more you can guarantee predictability and consistency to those in power, the more those in power will reward you.

Those who report the news and shape public narratives are of particular interest to US oligarchs, who bought up the old media long ago and are doing everything in their power to secure influence over the new media as well. Pundits like Joy Reid are some of their most valuable assets, and they protect those assets accordingly. Because whoever controls the narrative controls the world.

The Council on Foreign Relations is a massively influential think tank with members in the leadership of pretty much every significant media outlet in America. In late April it held a conference titled Political Disruptions: Combating Disinformation and Fake News in which a man named Richard Stengel told the audience that it is necessary for the US government to propagandize its citizens. Stengel is the former managing editor of Time Magazine, a position he vacated to go and work for the US State Department. Yes, really.

“Basically, every country creates their own narrative story and, you know, my old job at the State Department was what people used to joke as the ‘chief propagandist’ job,” Stengel told the CFR audience. “We haven’t talked about propaganda… I’m not against propaganda. Every country does it, and they have to do it to their own population, and I don’t necessarily think it’s that awful.”

You can cringe all you like, but he’s right. Not about propaganda being a legitimate weapon for an ostensibly free democracy to inflict upon its citizens of course; manipulating the way your citizenry thinks is manipulating the way they vote and organize and what they consent to, and is plainly sociopathic. But he is right that all the shrieking the US does about Russian propaganda applies fully to its own behavior.

As we’ve discussed previously, the only real power in this world is the power to control the public narrative about what is going on. The only reason governments operate the way they operate, the only reason money works the way it works, the only reason power exists where it exists, is that we’ve all agreed to play along with some made-up mental stories about those things and pretend that they are true and real. The only thing stopping the populace from collectively deciding to change the way money works, from deciding that the assholes on Capitol Hill aren’t in charge anymore, or from deciding that every billionaire in America should be butchered like a hog and turned into Slim Jims is the fact that those ideas have not become the dominant narrative. If you can control the stories that the masses tell themselves about what is in their best interests, you control everything.

This is why the alliance between Silicon Valley and US intelligence agencies is becoming more and more brazen. This is why Facebook and the NATO propaganda firm Atlantic Council announced that they’ve formed a partnership weeks after the Atlantic Council published an article explaining why westerners need to be propagandized for their own good. This is why social media corporations are being instructed on the Senate floor that they need to take action to silence sources of rebellion. This is why Julian Assange is being aggressively silenced by the western empire. And it is why Joy Reid still has a job.

The good news about all this is that we know exactly where our shackles are. Our shackles are made of narrative, and the oligarchs’ ability to control it. A populist movement to disrupt establishment narratives and wake people up to what’s going on is all it will take to break our rulers’ ability to control the way the citizens of the world think and vote. From there we can make our own narratives and create a world which benefits us all and not just a few ruling elites. Right now there is a mad rush by those same elites to scale back our ability to network and share information via new media, so one of the most revolutionary things we can do at this time is prevent them from doing so and outpace them in that race.

 It isn’t the west versus Russia. It isn’t left versus right. At this time the real conflict in our society is a few ruling elites and their cronies versus humanity’s natural impulse to act in a way that is beneficial to humanity. All we need to do is help that impulse flourish, get out of our oligarchy-imposed brain boxes, and build a new world.
