Venezuela moet en zal ‘verlost’ worden van Maduro, met ‘oh wonder’ een dikke rol van de VS en de reguliere westerse media

Vanmorgen weer een staaltje anti-Maduro propaganda op BBC World Service waar de honden geen brood van lusten. Arturo Wallace, een journalist die ook voor de BBC werkt, vertelde o.a. over de aanval afgelopen week met een helikopter op het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en het hooggerechtshof, in de hoofdstad Caracas. In eerste instantie stelde Wallace dat de leider van deze aanval, Oscar Pérez waarschijnlijk maar een kleine groep van opstandelingen vertegenwoordigt. Pérez is een bekende Venezolaan, die goed bekendstaat, aldus Wallace. Na deze kwalificaties stelde hij echter even later dat deze Pérez waarschijnlijk door de regering Maduro op pad werd gestuurd, om een excuus te hebben soldaten* de straat op te sturen en zo mensen te demotiveren weer te gaan demonstreren………

‘Toevallig’ werkt deze Pérez nauw samen met en voor de bekende Venezolaanse oud-generaal en minister van Binnenlandse Zaken, Justitie en Vrede, Rodríguez, die momenteel onderzocht wordt vanwege banden met de DEA (VS: Drugs Enforcement Administration) en de CIA. Kortom om ‘t zachtjes uit te drukken, niet echt vrienden van Maduro en zijn regering……. Daarnaast heeft deze Rodríguez veel van zijn eigendommen en geld in de VS ondergebracht, op naam van zijn vrouw…….

Maduro regeert met het geweer, aldus Wallace en de actie met de helikopter is een teken dat velen Maduro zat zijn……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Je meent ‘t? Buiten dat ‘t nogal vreemd is te concluderen, dat een terreuraanval aangeeft dat de bevolking Maduro zat is, is het lullig voor Wallace dat er genoeg Venezolanen zijn die achter Maduro blijven staan…..

Wallace sprak wel over de demonstraties en dat daardoor al veel mensen zijn omgekomen, maar met geen woord sprak hij over het barbaarse geweld dat door de rechtse oppositie wordt gepleegd en uitgelokt, dit onder dekking van de demonstraties tegen Maduro………

Ik hoef u waarschijnlijk niet te vertellen, dat Wallace met geen woord sprak over alle machinaties van de VS, die de Venezolaanse economie tot staan hebben gebracht. Zo mag een grote winkelketen van levensmiddelen, die in handen is van een bedrijf in de VS, haar winkels al meer dan een half jaar niet bevoorraden en doet de VS van alles om ook andere bedrijven lam te leggen……. Daarmee heeft de VS (CIA) grote onvrede gekweekt** en het lijkt of iedereen de regering Maduro kwijt wil, echter zoals gezegd staat nog steeds een groot deel van de Venezolanen achter die regering.

Medestanders van Maduro en zijn regering bevinden zich niet alleen in de grote arme onderlaag van de bevolking, maar ook in leger, politie, rechterlijke macht en de geheime dienst,,,,,,,,,,

De helikopteraanval wordt door Maduro terecht als een terroristische aanval bestempeld, in het westen wordt dit weggelachen, echter als iets dergelijks hier of in welk ander westers land dan ook zou gebeuren, zou het onmiddellijk als een terreuraanval worden neergezet……

More than 80 people miraculously avoided injury or death in a helicopter attack that targeted Venezuelan government buildings this week. The attack may have been part of an attempted coup supported by the U.S. as it seeks to topple Venezuela’s government to gain access to its massive oil reserves.

(MPN) — Opposition efforts to topple Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government are rapidly heating up, as months upon months of opposition protests have failed to make the inroads desired by the more extremist elements of the opposition and their foreign backers, particularly the United States.
With the current regime still hanging on to power despite years of economic sabotage and the funneling of millions from the U.S. to right-wing Venezuelan opposition parties, those determined to see Maduro removed from power have now turned to more drastic, violent measures in order to spark a coup.
On Tuesday, one of the more dramatic incidents of the most recent phase of the Venezuelan crisis took place when a stolen police helicopter opened fire on the Supreme Court and the Interior Ministry. At the time the attack occurred – about 5 p.m. local time – there were an estimated 80 people still inside the Interior Ministry and the Supreme Court was in session. No deaths or injuries were reported, a fact that the Venezuelan government attributed to a quick response by national guard forces, who repelled the attacking helicopter before it could do more damage.

Maduro condemned the attack soon after it occurred, calling it a “terrorist attack” that “could have caused dozens of deaths.” Ernesto Villegas, Venezuela’s Communications and Information Minister, stated that the attack was intended to be part of an attempted coup led by extremist groups within the opposition, with full U.S. government support said to be behind them.
Villegas’ assertion that the U.S. was involved in this attack is not based on mere speculation. Pérez has been known to work for Miguel Rodríguez Torres, a former general and former minister of Venezuela’s Department of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace who is currently being investigated for his ties to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the CIA. The charges first surfaced when the Venezuelan news agency Últimas Noticias obtained an official DEA document that described Rodríguez Torres as a “key information provider” for the agency and recommended that he be secured as a protected source for the DEA and U.S. government. It also noted that 40 percent of his assets and wealth are held in the U.S. under his wife’s name.
The U.S. has long sought to oust the left-wing regime that was brought to power in Venezuela by Hugo Chávez in the late 1990s. Since Chávez’s election, the U.S. is believed to have spent between $50 to $60 million to strengthen the country’s right-wing opposition in the hope that they would win elections. Former U.S. President Barack Obama alone dedicated $5 million to “support political competition-building efforts” in Venezuela.
More recently, the U.S. Senate has been mulling over new legislation that would provide an additional $20 million for “democracy promotion” efforts in Venezuela. However, some of these efforts in the past have led to right-wing politicians and their affiliates paying protesters in cash to violently escalate opposition rallies.
Such rallies have turned increasingly violent in recent weeks, with three people burned alive by opposition protesters just in the last week. Journalists have also been targeted, with some being directly shot at and others threatened with being lynched or set aflame. Despite the violence, the Venezuelan opposition is likely to continue receiving funding from the U.S., which is eager to gain control of Venezuela’s oil reserves – the largest in the world – no matter the cost.

De reguliere massamedia in de VS spreken de afgelopen maanden over de VS, als zou ‘het land’ in de Syrië oorlog worden getrokken (door krachten van buitenaf)…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! De eerste plannen voor een staatsgreep in Syrië, dateren uit de 80er jaren, de tijd van opperschoft Reagan! In 2006 werd dit plan nieuw leven ingeblazen, nadat bleek dat het bewind van Assad weigerde pijpleidingen over haar grondgebied toe te staan, pijpleidingen voor olie en vooral gas transport richting EU.

Twee vliegen in één klap, daar het bewind Assad, zeer tegen de zin van de VS, goede banden onderhield en onderhoudt met Rusland…….. In de besprekingen die de VS in 2006 startte met landen als Groot-Brittannië, Turkije, Saoedi-Arabië en een paar andere arabische landen, zette men in op een opstand in Syrië, die zou moeten uitmonden in een staatsgreep tegen Assad en de opdeling van Syrië…..

Vanaf 2011 heeft de VS jaarlijks 1 miljard dollar aan wapens en training in de zogenaamde oppositie gestoken……. Zogenaamde oppositie, daar het overgrote deel van de ‘gematigde rebellen’, uiterst gewelddadige buitenlandse terroristen zijn zoals die van Al Qaida en IS……. De VS liet na de val van Khadaffi in Libië (ook al via een door de VS georganiseerde opstand en illegale oorlog) een groot aantal terroristen transporteren naar Irak, om van daaruit Syrië in te trekken en daar het Assad bewind omver te werpen…….

De media in de VS stellen echter keer op keer, dat de VS de beste bedoelingen heeft en in een oorlog wordt gelokt, i.p.v. het vervolmaken van een jarenlange uitgedachte strategie om bijvoorbeeld in het Midden-Oosten (maar ook in Oekraïne) de lakens te kunnen uitdelen. Elk land waar een regime aan de macht is, dat niet klakkeloos knielt voor de VS, wordt door de VS als een gevaar voor het eigen voortbestaan afgeschilderd, zowel door de politiek als door de reguliere massamedia…….

Telkens weer wordt onomwonden gesteld dat de VS wordt aangevallen en zich derhalve dient te verdedigen……. Vanaf WOII tot het jaar 2000 heeft de VS meer dan 20 miljoen mensen vermoord in conflicten die door de VS zelf werden gecreëerd….. Sinds het begin van deze eeuw heeft diezelfde VS al 2 miljoen moorden op het geweten, alleen in Irak al meer dan 1,5 miljoen, middels de in 2003 illegaal begonnen oorlog tegen dat land (één van de grootste oorlogsmisdaden en daarmee terreuruitoefeningen die men kan bedenken……)……..

Uiteraard moeten Rusland en Iran het ook ontgelden in de reguliere VS media, als zouden zij i.p.v. de VS illegale oorlogen beginnen en opstanden op poten zetten waar het maar uitkomt………

Mensen het ligt er allemaal zo dik bovenop, dat je niet snapt dat de reguliere media en ‘intellectuele opiniemakers’ in de rest van het westen, zich zo laten gebruiken door de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde, de VS…….. Zonder amper enige kritiek loopt men achter de VS aan, de enige uitzondering is Trump, die sinds zijn aantreden als joker wordt neergezet. Lullig genoeg vinden deze media en intellectuelen verder zo ongeveer alles wat Trump en zijn leger flikken over de wereld, boven elke kritiek verheven…….

Syria Is Just the Latest Example of the US Gov’t Pretending to Be Dragged Into War

(FAIR) — A recent headline in The Atlantic (6/9/17) earnestly pondered if the US was “Getting Sucked Into More War in Syria.” “Even as Washington potentially stumbles into war…” was how the article’s discussion began.
One of the most common tropes in US media is that the US military always goes to war reluctantly—and, if there are negative consequences, like civilian deaths, it’s simply a matter of bumbling around without much plan or purpose.
Syria War
This framing serves to flatter two sensibilities: one right and one vaguely left. It satisfies the right-wing nationalist idea that America only goes to war because it’s compelled to by forces outside of its own control; the reluctant warrior, the gentle giant who will only attack when provoked to do so. But it also plays to a nominally liberal, hipster notion that the US military is actually incompetent and boobish, and is generally bad at war-making.
This is expressed most clearly in the idea that the US is “drawn into” war despite its otherwise unwarlike intentions. “Will US Be Drawn Further Into Syrian Civil War?” asked Fox News (4/7/17). “How America Could Stumble Into War With Iran,” disclosed The Atlantic (2/9/17), “What It Would Take to Pull the US Into a War in Asia,” speculated Quartz (4/29/17). “Trump could easily get us sucked into Afghanistan again,” Slate predicted (5/11/17). The US is “stumbling into a wider war” in Syria, the New York Times editorial board (5/2/15) warned. “A Flexing Contest in Syria May Trap the US in an Endless Conflict,” Vice News (6/19/17) added.
“Sliding,” “stumbling,” ”sucked into,” “dragged into,” ”drawn into”: The US is always reluctantly—and without a plan—falling backward into bombing and occupying. The US didn’t enter the conflict in Syria in September 2014 deliberately; it was forced into it by outside actors. The US didn’t arm and fund anti-Assad rebels for four years to the tune of $1 billion a year as part of a broader strategy for the region; it did so as a result of some unknown geopolitical dark matter.
Syria especially evokes the media’s “reluctantly sucked into war” narrative. Four times in the past month, the Trump administration has attacked pro-regime forces in Syria, and in all four instances they’ve claimed “self-defense.” All four times, media accepted this justification without question (e.g., Reuters, 6/19/17), despite not a single instance of “self-defense” attacks occurring under two-and-a-half years of the Obama administration fighting in Syria. (The one time Obama directly attacked Syrian government forces, the US claimed it was an accident.)
Why the sudden uptick in “self-defense”? Could it be because, as with the bombing of ISIS (and nearby civilians), Trump has given a green light to his generals to adopt an itchy trigger finger? Could it be Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis, who has a decades-long grudge against Iran, want to blow up Iranian drones and kill Iranian troops? No such questions are entertained, much less interrogated. The US’s entirely defensive posture in Syria is presented as fact and serves as the premise for discussion.
When US empire isn’t reluctant, it’s benevolent. “Initially motivated by humanitarian impulse,” Foreign Policy‘s Emile Simpson (6/21/17) insisted, “the United States and its Western allies achieved regime change in Libya and attempted it in Syria, by backing rebels in each case.”
“At least in recent decades, American presidents who took military action have been driven by the desire to promote freedom and democracy,” the New York Times editorial board (2/7/17) swooned.
“Every American president since at least the 1970s,” Washington Post’s Philip Rucker (5/2/17) declared, “has used his office to champion human rights and democratic values around the world.” Interpreting US policymakers’ motives is permitted, so long as the conclusion is never critical.
In contrast, foreign policy actions by Russia are painted in diabolical and near-omnipotent terms. “Is Putin’s Master Plan Only Beginning?” worried Vanity Fair (12/28/16). “Putin’s Aim Is to Make This the Russian Century,” insists Time magazine (10/1/16).
Russia isn’t “drawn into” Crimea; it has a secret “Crimea takeover plot” (BBC, 3/9/15). Putin doesn’t “stumble into” Syria; he has a “Long-Term Strategy” there (Foreign Affairs, 3/15/16). Military adventurism by other countries is part of a well-planned agenda, while US intervention is at best reluctant, and at worst bumfuzzled—Barney Fife with 8,000 Abrams tanks and 19 aircraft carriers.
Even liberals talk about war in this agency-free manner. Jon Stewart was fond of saying, for example, that the Iraq war was a “mistake”—implying a degree of “aw shucks” mucking up, rather than a years-long plan by ideologues in the government to assert US hegemony in the Middle East.
War, of course, isn’t a “mistake.” Nor, unless your country is invaded, is it carried out against one’s will. The act of marshalling tens of thousands of troops, scores of ships, hundreds of aircraft, and coordinating the mechanisms of soft and covert power by State and CIA officials, are deliberate acts by conscious, very powerful actors.
Media shouldn’t make broad, conspiratorial assumptions as to what the bigger designs are. But neither are they under any obligation to buy into this mythology that US foreign policy is an improvised peace mission carried out by good-hearted bureaucrats, who only engage in war because they’re “sucked into” doing so.

Hoorde zojuist, rond 14.45 u. BNR’s oliebol Hammelburg (‘buitenlanddeskundige’) zijn programma aankondigen. Hierbij stelde de zakkenwasser trots, dat hij een uur lang uitzendt vanuit de Haagse afdeling van de Leidse universiteit.

Als gast noemde Hammelburg o.a. de Hoop Scheffer, die hij o.a. terrorisme deskundige noemde…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja, deskundig in het creëren van terreur, zo stond deze lapzwans achter de illegale oorlogen van de VS tegen Afghanistan en Irak en wist Nederland mee te trekken in die oorlogen. Oorlogen met als gevolg een ongelofelijk aantal vermoordde slachtoffers, voor Irak staat de teller nu al op meer dan 1,5 miljoen vermoordde Irakezen……..

Tja, daarmee krijg je vanzelf terreur op de straten in EU landen, waar een aantal van die landen als NAVO partner (o.a.Nederland) hebben meegewerkt aan de grootschalige terreur die de VS over o.a. de voornoemde landen heeft gebracht…….

De Hoop Scheffer is deskundig in het uitlokken van terreur, door grootschalige terreuruitoefening in landen waar Nederland niets te zoeken had….. Als dank voor het meetrekken van Nederland in het brengen van ongekende terreur, werd de Hoop Scheffer ook nog eens beloond door de VS met het voorzitterschap (‘secretaris-generaal’ ha! ha!) van de NAVO (als zetbaas van de VS, zoals u had begrepen)……..

Hoe is het mogelijk dat nitwit en oorlogshitser de Hoop Scheffer, grootlobbyist van het militair-industrieel complex en de NAVO (een uiterst agressieve terreurorganisatie), les mag geven aan een universiteit??? Ongelofelijk en ongeloofwaardig……….

Rex Tillerson (VS BuZA) geeft toe dat de VS een staatsgreep wil uitvoeren in Iran…….. Het is nog ‘iets te rustig’ in dat gebied……..

De VS minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, Rex Tillerson, heeft toegegeven dat de VS uit is op ‘regime change’ in Iran (ofwel een staatsgreep). Dat het Iraanse volk onlangs nog heeft gekozen voor meer vrijheid en uiteindelijk een echte democratie zal de VS aan de reet roesten, men wil simpelweg een Iraanse regering die onderhorig is aan de VS en daarmee aan Saoedi-Arabië en Israël. De enige mogelijkheid daartoe is het installeren van een dictatoriaal regime, een specialiteit van de VS, dat altijd stelt democratie te willen brengen……….. Overigens voerde de VS (CIA) in 1953 al een staatsgreep uit tegen de democratisch gekozen Iraanse regering van Mossadegh

Tussen de regels door gaf Tillerson toe, dat de CIA al werkzaam is in Iran, toen hij stelde: “Our policy towards Iran is to push back on this hegemony, contain their ability to develop obviously nuclear weapons, and to work toward support of those elements inside of Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of that government. Those elements are there, certainly as we know.”

In dit zelfde citaat staat te lezen dat Tillerson ondanks alle bewijzen van het tegendeel, stelt dat Iran bezig is een atoomwapen te ontwikkelen……… Een uitspraak die duidelijk een opmaat is naar militair ingrijpen, niet voor niets is de VS bijna continu bezig de Iraanse marine uit te dagen, met manoeuvres voor de Iraanse kust….. Daarnaast is er Israël dat keer op keer stelt, dat Iran een gevaar is voor de regio en dat het land moet worden aangevallen…… Netanyahu, de premier van de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël, heeft meermaals laten weten, dat Israël zich het recht voorbehoudt Iran aan te vallen.

Onder Obama werd Israël nog enigszins onder controle gehouden, met het beest Trump aan de macht in de VS is de vrees dan ook, dat Israël daadwerkelijk Iran zal aanvallen. Als dit gebeurt zal de VS deze immense terreurdaad verdedigen, als het al niet zal deelnemen aan die Israëlische aanval.

Stuitend dat Tillerson keihard durft te zeggen, dat Iran een destabiliserende factor is in het Midden-Oosten……. Als er één destabiliserende factor is in het Midden-Oosten, is het wel de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde: de VS…… Met haar illegale oorlogen (de ultieme vorm van terreur) tegen Afghanistan, Irak (met intussen meer dan 1,5 miljoen vermoordde Irakezen), Libië (dat wordt door de VS tot het Midden-Oosten gerekend) en nu weer Syrië, heeft de VS het Midden-Oosten in totale chaos gestort. Daarbij moet niet vergeten worden dat de VS verantwoordelijk is voor het ontstaan van IS (dat het zelfs jarenlang heeft gesteund en bovendien van wapens en voertuigen heeft voorzien, al dan niet via een andere grote terreurentiteit in het Midden-Oosten: Saoedi-Arabië…)…..

De VS heeft intussen zelfs toegegeven het chemisch wapen witte fosfor te hebben gebruikt in de strijd om Raqqa…….. Ofwel: hoeveel bewijs heb je nog nodig, om in te zien , dat de VS grootschalige terreur uitoefent

Afgelopen week spraken veel politici in de VS over de aanslagen in Iran, als was het een zegen. De republikeinse vertegenwoordiger voor Californië, Dana Rohrabacher stelde zelfs dat de VS terreuraanslagen tegen Iran moet steunen, waarbij ze zelfs steun wil geven aan IS, als die Iran nog eens aanvalt……. Voor Syrië heeft de VS Al Qaida van de terreurlijst gehaald, waarbij de VS represailles neemt, als het reguliere Syrische leger deze of andere terreurorganisaties (‘gematigde rebellen’) NB op eigen bodem aanvalt…….. (waar de VS volkomen illegaal op Syrische bodem strijd voert…….)

Eén ding is nu wel duidelijk: Iran staat als volgende op de lijst om te worden teruggebombardeerd in de tijd en in chaos te worden gestort door (ingrijpen van) de VS met hulp van Israël, Saoedi-Arabië en een paar van de Golfstaten……

Sec. of State Tillerson Admits US Policy of Regime Change for Iran

(ANTIMEDIA) — In case there was any doubt, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has just confirmed that official U.S. policy towards Iran includes regime change, Think Progress reports.
During a Wednesday hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the 2018 State Department budget, Tillerson was asked whether or not the U.S. supports regime change in Iran. He replied affirmatively, stating that U.S. policy is driven by relying on “elements inside of Iran” to bring about a “peaceful transition of that government.”
Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) also asked Tillerson if the government would sanction the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – a powerful entity inside Iran.
“They are doing bad things throughout the world, on behalf of terrorism and destroying human rights of many people,” Poe said, referring to the IRGC.
“I’d like to know what the policy is of the U.S. toward Iran. Do we support the current regime? Do we support a philosophy of regime change, peaceful regime change? There are Iranians in exile all over the world. Some are here. And then there’s Iranians in Iran who don’t support the totalitarian state. So is the U.S. position to leave things as they are or set up a peaceful long-term regime change?”
“Well our Iranian policy is under development,” Tillerson replied.
“It’s not yet been delivered to the president, but I would tell you that we certainly recognize Iran’s continued destabilizing presence in the region, their payment of foreign fighters, their export of militia forces in Syria, in Iraq, in Yemen, their support for Hezbollah. And we are taking action to respond to Iran’s hegemony. Additional sanctions actions have been put in place against individuals and others.”
Tillerson also added:
“We continually review the merits both from the standpoint of diplomatic but also international consequences of designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in its entirety as a terrorist organization. As you know, we have designated the Quds [Force]. Our policy towards Iran is to push back on this hegemony, contain their ability to develop obviously nuclear weapons, and to work toward support of those elements inside of Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of that government. Those elements are there, certainly as we know.”
Tillerson’s reference to Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons above directly contradicts a letter he sent to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in April of this year. The New York Times explained:
“The letter certified that Iran was complying with the agreement, negotiated by five world powers in addition to the United States and Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which monitors the agreement with on-site inspectors and advanced technology, reached the same conclusion in its most recent report.” [emphasis added]
This comes just over a week after Iran suffered an ISIS-inspired terror attack of its own, after which American lawmakers immediately proposed sanctions against the Islamic Republic, further demonstrating that the U.S. seeks to undermine Iran as much as possible. The sanctions were approved by the Senate on Thursday. Further, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) appeared to praise the ISIS attack on Iran, even suggesting the U.S. should support terrorists who commit attacks against the Iranian state.
Unsurprisingly, Iran was quick to respond to Tillerson’s aggressive statements. On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi called Tillerson’s comments “interventionist, in gross violation of the compelling rules of international law, unacceptable and strongly condemned.”
“Since the 1950s, the United States tried to meddle in Iranian affairs by different strategies such as coup d’état, regime change, and military intervention,” Qassemi also stated.
These efforts have all failed, Qassemi said, adding that the new U.S. government is “confused” and could be “easily manipulated by wrong information.”
As Anti-Media has previously explained, Iran is one of the most heavily engaged entities fighting ISIS (and has been extremely effective in doing so). Even if Iran were supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen (the hard evidence for this claim to date has been woefully lacking), the Houthis are the sworn enemy of al-Qaeda and ISIS – two terror groups the U.S. is currently fighting.
This is not to whitewash Iran for its backing of militias on the ground who have committed atrocities — or Iran’s often heavy-handed treatment of its own people. However, the U.N. just claimed that U.S.-led airstrikes have killed over 300 civilians after barely a week of fighting in Syria (U.S.-backed forces have also admitted using white phosphorous on these civilian populations). Further, the U.S. also maintains close ties with other radical nations that have exported mass violence and suffering on an exponential level.
Clearly, the U.S.’ infatuation with Iran has nothing to do with human rights concerns, and apparently, it must be reiterated that regime change without any official direction from the U.N. is completely illegal.
Iran just elected a reformist for the second time (with a higher voter turnout than the U.S. elections in 2016). This reformist, Hassan Rouhani, is more than capable of cutting deals with the U.S and its allies.
According to Tillerson himself, as explained above, the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran is clearly working effectively, further reducing any concerns regarding Iran’s capacity to pose a nuclear threat to anyone.
Why seek to topple a government elected by its own people? For “democracy” and “freedom?” Or because Iran sells its oil in Yuan, a direct attack on America’s control over the financial markets?
The U.S. has previously interfered in Iran’s political structure. In 1953, the CIA overthrew Iran’s democratically elected leader, Mohammed Mossadegh, and replaced him with a brutal dictator, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. As explained by the Guardian, this interference clearly had little to do with democracy-building or human rights — and everything to do with oil:
“Britain, and in particular Sir Anthony Eden, the foreign secretary, regarded Mosaddeq as a serious threat to its strategic and economic interests after the Iranian leader nationalised the British Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, latterly known as BP. But the UK needed US support. The Eisenhower administration in Washington was easily persuaded.”
As far as we know, only one country has purposely used nuclear weapons against civilian populations and has continually used its stockpile of deadly weapons to topple a number of governments across the globe without facing legal ramifications.
That country is not Iran. As explained by intellectual Noam Chomsky:
“Why is Iran regarded here as the greatest threat to world peace? … They [the intelligence community] say Iran has very low military spending, even by the standards of the region, much lower than Saudi Arabia, Israel, [and] others. Its strategy is defensive. They want to deter attacks long enough for diplomacy to be entertained. The conclusion, intelligence conclusion—this is a couple years ago—is: If they are developing nuclear weapons, which we don’t know, but if they are, it would be part of their deterrent strategy.”
“Now, why is the United States and Israel even more so concerned about a deterrent? Who’s concerned about a deterrent? Those who want to use force. Those who want to be free to use force are deeply concerned about a potential deterrent.”

Jemen: door Saoedische terreur intussen meer dan 1.450 mensen overleden aan cholera…….

Door de illegale oorlog van Saoedi-Arabië tegen Jemen*, is er niet alleen een hongersnood uitgebroken in dit straatarme land, maar is er ook een cholera uitgebroken in dat land*.

Precies als het ontbreken van aandacht van de reguliere media in ons land voor de smerige oorlog van ‘onze’ bondgenoot S-A tegen Jemen, is er ook amper aandacht voor de cholera-uitbraak in dat land……

Sinds de uitbraak van cholera eind april van dit jaar, zijn er volgens de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) tot nu toe al meer dan 1.450 mensen (vooral veel kinderen) overleden aan deze vreselijke ziekte. Je kan dit gerust moorden noemen, waarvoor S-A als direct verantwoordelijke kan worden aangewezen.

Het gebrek aan aandacht in de media heeft niet alleen te maken met de goede banden die zo ongeveer alle kabinetten tot nu toe hebben gehad met de reli-fascistische politiestaat Saoedi-Arabië, maar ook vanwege de enorme steun die dit land van de VS krijgt en zoals u weet, niet alleen Nederland, maar een groot deel van de EU kan je zien als VS staat. Over de enorme terreur die dit land over de wereld brengt, wordt niet eens gesproken door het grootste deel van de politici, actie tegen deze terreurstaat hoeft u dus al helemaal niet te verwachten. Integendeel: zoals gezegd, het westen steunt de VS in haar terreur, waardoor we ook nog eens de reactieterreur in de EU straten zien…….

Daarmee zijn niet alleen de VS en S-A verantwoordelijk voor de hongersnood en cholera in dat land, maar zijn ook alle landen die deze twee grote terreurentiteiten steunen verantwoordelijk voor de immense terreur die de VS en S-A in Jemen (en elders) brengen……. Moet u nagaan, de VS en S-A (plus GB) vechten in Jemen tegen de Houthi rebellen, die NB succesvol zijn in hun strijd tegen IS en Al Qaida, die door Al-Hadi onderdak werd verleend in Jemen.

Deze 2 terreurgroepen, zoals zo ongeveer alle terreurgroepen (en S-A), zijn soennitisch, vandaar dat ze de Houthi rebellen bevechten in Jemen, die zijn sjiitisch……. De strijd van S-A, de VS, Groot-Brittannië (met militaire training, wapen- en munitie leveranties, inclusief clusterbommen en trainingen), Egypte en een aantal Golfstaten, kan niet anders gezien worden, dan een genocide op de sjiitische bevolking van Jemen……. Ook de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël schijnt een ‘mooie rol’ in het geheel te spelen……….

Cholera Is Killing a Person Every Hour in Yemen and Nobody’s Talking About It

(ANTIMEDIA) — According to Oxfam International, a leading charitable organization, Yemen is currently battling a cholera epidemic that is killing one person nearly every hour. Children are contracting** the infection at a rate of one every 35 seconds. If the outbreak is not contained, it will continue to threaten thousands of people for months on end.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 676 people died from cholera in a five-week period from the end of April to the start of June this year. More than 86,000 people are suspected of having the disease. Symptoms of this disease include diarrhea, nausea, and dehydration.
WHO’s latest report shows that 791 have died from cholera in Yemen as of June 7, 2017.

Oxfam predicts that somewhere between 150,000 and 300,000 people could contract the illness in the coming months.

As noted by Oxfam’s Yemen Country Director, Sajjad Mohammed, this dangerous situation could easily have been prevented:
“Yemen is on the edge of an abyss. Lives hang in the balance. Two years of war have plunged the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and put Yemen at risk of famine…Cholera is simple to treat and prevent but while the fighting continues the task is made doubly difficult.”
Without oversimplifying this complex geopolitical conflict too much, the blame for this mass suffering lies largely on the U.S. and U.K.-backed Saudi alliance – the aggressors who are committing war crimes on a massive scale and directly targeting civilian infrastructure, including hundreds of hospitals. Despite this horror, the mainstream media is almost entirely silent on this topic. When they do report on the situation, the most outlets fail to assign the blame fairly or accurately.
There are a variety of factors to examine when determining the underlying causes of the cholera outbreak. As Oxfam explains:
“Health workers and water engineers have not been paid for months while hospitals, health centers and public water systems have been destroyed and starved of key items, such as medical supplies, chlorine and fuel. Even basic supplies such as intravenous fluids, oral rehydration salts and soap are urgently needed to enable an effective, speedy response – some of which will have to be flown into the country.”
For example, the Washington Post has detailed how the Saudi-led coalition has completely destroyed Yemen’s economy (on purpose, one might add), yet the title of the article refers to the conflict as “Yemen’s war.” The Post must be well aware that most Americans are headline readers only, given they reported on this fact in an article entitled “Americans read headlines and not much else.”
It’s not “Yemen’s war” – Yemen isn’t at war with anyone. A genuine analysis of the conflict would find that local Yemenis, with the backing of their former leader Ali Abdullah Saleh – and a significant portion of Yemen’s armed forces who had pledged loyalty to him – had ousted a leader widely viewed as a Saudi puppet.
That puppet, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, had already been removed from power. The U.S.-backed Saudi coalition is demanding his reinstatement through brutal force and massacring thousands of ordinary Yemenis in the process.
If Iran or Russia was committing such aggression against one of the poorest countries in the world, the mainstream media would have a field day. The headlines alone would do all the damage necessary, and the media wouldn’t hesitate to assign blame.
This kind of selective reporting is nothing short of shameful and must be condemned in the strongest of terms. Meanwhile, Yemen burns in the background, and the beacons of human rights that are the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Gulf States who are actively waging this war are completely indifferent to the suffering of ordinary, innocent civilians.

Asscher laat zien hoe de PvdA ‘is hervormd’ na de verkiezingsnederlaag: GL is slap en opvang vluchtelingen moet in Noord-Afrika………

De incompetente minister, vicepremier en PvdA voorzitter Asscher, liet een paar dagen geleden weten dat hij er niks van begrijpt dat GroenLinks (GL) leider Klaver zelfs geen opvang van vluchtelingen in ‘veilige landen’ wil……..

Als je Asscher moet geloven, lokt GL zelfs vluchtelingen met haar weerstand tegen het voorstel van PvdA grofvolksverlakker Tjeenk Willink. Volgens Asscher is het voorstel van Tjeenk Willink, om ‘asielzoekers’ (lees: vluchtelingen) te sturen naar landen als Tunesië, ‘een goede oplossing’. Daar kunnen de VN en mensenrechtenorganisaties toezien op de veiligheid van de vluchtelingen. Vervolgens gebruikte hij wel het woord vluchtelingen, toen hij stelde, dat je vluchtelingen natuurlijk niet het gevaar instuurt…….

Nee, dat zou je niet moeten willen, echter dat heeft de PvdA, NB met Asscher als vicepremier wel gedaan met de Turkije deal…… Daarnaast worden door het schoftenkabinet Rutte 2 en de dictatoriale EU alleen vluchtelingen uit Syrië als vluchteling gezien. Mensen die in landen woonden, die door de VS (gesteund door een aantal EU landen, waaronder Nederland) in illegale oorlogen zijn gedompeld, landen als Afghanistan en Irak, worden niet als vluchteling erkent…… Sommigen van hen worden door bijzondere omstandigheden wel gezien als vluchtelinge, maar zoals gezegd, dit gaat om enkele gevallen…..

Als gevolg van deze magere erkenning laat Turkije vluchtelingen uit andere landen niet meer toe, deze worden zelfs beschoten als ze voor de Turkse grens staan, of als ze al binnen zijn gekomen, met grof geweld het land weer worden uitgezet, veelal regelrecht de oorlog in……. Dit terwijl Turkije door Nederland en de EU als veilig land voor vluchtelingen wordt gezien…….. Daarnaast zet Turkije vluchtelingen (zelfs hele gezinnen) gevangen in provisorische gevangenissen, waar het aan alles ontbreekt, gevangenissen in onherbergzame gebieden, waar noch advocaten, noch mensenrechtenorganisaties als Amnesty International worden toegelaten……. Dat noemt men dus veilig…….. GGGVD!!!

Tjeenk Willink wil dan ook eenzelfde verdrag, als de ‘Turkije-deal’, met landen als Tunesië………. Rekent u maar niet, dat Tunesië ook maar één vluchteling zal toelaten, die niet door de EU als vluchteling wordt aangemerkt en reken maar dat het er hard aan toe zal gaan, als deze mensen op een andere manier, dan via de EU teruggebracht, de grens hebben overgestoken…….

Dan blijft Libië uiteraard het land dat voor vele vluchtelingen als einddoel wordt gezien om over te steken naar Italië……..

Daarover gesproken: eerder zagen CDA, VVD, PvdA en D66 ook Libië als land, waarmee afspraken als in de Turkije-deal, kunnen worden gemaakt…… Libië het land waar tegenwoordig vluchtelingen op slavenmarkten worden verkocht, waar vluchtelingen worden gegijzeld voor losgeld en waar deze als dit niet lukt op de slavenmarkt verdwijnen, dan wel worden vermoord……..

Asscher had het gore lef te zeggen, dat er moet worden gewerkt aan de oorzaak voor het vluchten van mensen richting EU. Daar ziet deze flapdrol het belang van ontwikkelingssamenwerking…….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! U weet wel, ontwikkelingssamenwerking à la Ploumen, dus een dikke bak geld voor Nederlandse bedrijven, die bijvoorbeeld in Afrika een bedrijf opzetten en daar mensen uitbuiten voor een appel en een ei…….. Oxfam Novib concludeerde eind vorig jaar dat deze vorm van ontwikkelingssamenwerking niet werkt, enorme kapitalen zijn verdwenen en resultaten zijn er niet!!

Dat mensen op de vlucht zijn geslagen voor de illegale oorlogen en andere terreuracties van de VS in het Midden-Oosten (inclusief Afghanistan en Libië) en zuidelijker gelegen Afrika, interesseert Asscher niet, logisch zijn PvdA heeft zich achter deze illegale oorlogen en andere VS terreur geschaard……. Logisch dat oplichter Asscher de echte oorzaak voor vluchten niet wil aanpakken, anders zou hij als eerste de hand in eigen boezem moeten steken (gadver!!). Moet u nagaan: Asscher zelf stelde dat je niet moet wegkijken van de oorzaak voor het ontvluchten door mensen van het vader/moederland……… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Kortom Asscher en zijn partij van volksverlakkers willen nog steeds niet begrijpen, waarom ze zo zijn afgestraft bij de laatste verkiezingen in maart van dit jaar…… Daarover gesproken: Asscher herhaalde nog eens dat de PvdA niet zal aanschuiven bij de formatie, hoewel hij even later stelde dat je niets moet uitsluiten……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Nou dan weet je het wel, Asscher gaat straks toch meeregeren (straks ziet hij de PVV nog als mogelijkheid tot regeren……)……….

Asscher vindt het onbegrijpelijk dat GroenLinks niet wil meeregeren, terwijl NB hijzelf en zijn PvdA ‘het goede voorbeeld’ hebben gegeven aan GL, en gestraft zijn voor het meeregeren in Rutte 2!! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Ron Paul is een rechtse hufter van formaat, maar zo nu en dan kan deze zakkenwasser met uiterst steekhoudende argumenten, smerige zaken aan de kaak stellen, zaken die op z’n zachtst gezegd niet veel steun van zijn Republikeinse partij krijgen.

Lees wat Paul schrijft over de oorlog in Syrië. Oké, e.e.a. was al bekend, echter het is meegenomen, als zelfs een rechtse houwdegen, als Paul, die NB aan de wieg van de Tea Party stond, zaken bevestigt. Al moet gezegd worden dat hij een verkeerde kijk heeft op een aantal zaken, zoals de reden waarom de VS illegaal in Syrië aanwezig is: het afzetten van Assad en zijn regering………..

Verder maakt Paul geen woorden vuil aan hoe en wie ‘de opstand’ in Syrië heeft gecreëerd (met hulp van vooral veel buitenlandse agitators, zoals die uit Saoedi–Arabië en door de VS aangevoerde terroristen uit o.a. Libië) in Syrië heeft gecreëerd. De VS is daarvoor aan te merken als hoofdverantwoordelijke, al in 2006 was deze terreurentiteit bezig met voorbereidingen van een opstand, die moest uitmonden in een staatsgreep tegen Assad…… Assad weigerde pijpleidingen voor gas en olie over zijn grondgebied richting Europa toe te staan, tja dan ga je op heel veel tenen staan….

Bovendien was en is Syrië al decennialang een bondgenoot van de Russen en de Iraniërs, daarmee haal je je de woede van de VS op de hals, de VS dat denkt de wereld te regeren ……

Why Are We Attacking the Syrians Who Are Fighting ISIS?

(RPI) Just when you thought our Syria policy could not get any worse, last week it did. The US military twice attacked Syrian government forces from a military base it illegally occupies inside Syria. According to the Pentagon, the attacks on Syrian government-backed forces were “defensive” because the Syrian fighters were approaching a US self-declared “de-confliction” zone inside Syria. The Syrian forces were pursuing ISIS in the area, but the US attacked anyway.
The US is training yet another rebel group fighting from that base, located near the border of Iraq at al-Tanf, and it claims that Syrian government forces pose a threat to the US military presence there. But the Pentagon has forgotten one thing: it has no authority to be in Syria in the first place! Neither the US Congress nor the UN Security Council has authorized a US military presence inside Syria.
So what gives the Trump Administration the right to set up military bases on foreign soil without the permission of that government? Why are we violating the sovereignty of Syria and attacking its military as they are fighting ISIS? Why does Washington claim that its primary mission in Syria is to defeat ISIS while taking military actions that benefit ISIS?
The Pentagon issued a statement saying its presence in Syria is necessary because the Syrian government is not strong enough to defeat ISIS on its own. But the “de-escalation zones” agreed upon by the Syrians, Russians, Iranians, and Turks have led to a reduction in fighting and a possible end to the six-year war. Even if true that the Syrian military is weakened, its weakness is due to six years of US-sponsored rebels fighting to overthrow it!
What is this really all about? Why does the US military occupy this base inside Syria? It’s partly about preventing the Syrians and Iraqis from working together to fight ISIS, but I think it’s mostly about Iran. If the Syrians and Iraqis join up to fight ISIS with the help of Iranian-allied Shia militia, the US believes it will strengthen Iran’s hand in the region. President Trump has recently returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia where he swore he would not allow that to happen.
But is this policy really in our interest, or are we just doing the bidding of our Middle East “allies,” who seem desperate for war with Iran? Saudi Arabia exports its radical form of Islam worldwide, including recently into moderate Asian Muslim countries like Indonesia. Iran does not. That is not to say that Iran is perfect, but does it make any sense to jump into the Sunni/Shia conflict on either side? The Syrians, along with their Russian and Iranian allies, are defeating ISIS and al-Qaeda. As candidate Trump said, what’s so bad about that?
We were told that if the Syrian government was allowed to liberate Aleppo from al-Qaeda, Assad would kill thousands who were trapped there. But the opposite has happened: life is returning to normal in Aleppo. The Christian minority there celebrated Easter for the first time in several years. They are rebuilding. Can’t we finally just leave the Syrians alone?
When you get to the point where your actions are actually helping ISIS, whether intended or not, perhaps it’s time to stop. It’s past time for the US to abandon its dangerous and counterproductive Syria policy and just bring the troops home.

VS topidioot en psychopathische oorlogshitser James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis, godbetert de VS minister van Defensie, liet eind vorige week weten, dat China de Zuid-Chinese Zee militariseert…… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Je moet het lef maar hebben als vertegenwoordiger van de hoofdverantwoordelijke voor het omringen van een fiks deel van China met militaire bases (de VS)!! Let wel: dat met meer dan 200 van die bases!!

Daarbij heeft de VS niets te zoeken in de Zuid-Chinese Zee, ondanks dat heeft deze grootste terreurentiteit op aarde intussen een fikse vlootopbouw in en in de buurt van de Zuid-Chinese Zee (dit naast de eerder genoemde militaire bases……)…..

‘De pot verwijt de ketel dat deze zwart ziet’ gaat niet eens op, daar de ketel wel legitiem aanwezig is in de Zuid-Chinese Zee!!

Tijdens het schrijven van deze toevoeging, hoorde ik in het BBC World Service radionieuws van 13.00 u (CET), dat Rex Tillerson, de VS minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, een al even grote oorlogshitser en daarmee toplobbyist voor het militair-industrieel complex, nog even olie aan het vuur toevoegde en China een grote bedreiging voor de regio noemde………..

NAVO operatie in Syrië in voorbereidingsfase……… Daarom moet u meer betalen voor defensie: meer aanslagen in Europa!

Op de onlangs gehouden NAVO vergadering, waarbij de deelnemers voorafgaand aan het bezoek van het beest Trump, zich in de broek scheten, heeft de NAVO besloten zich als partij te mengen in de illegale oorlog die de VS tegen dat land voert…….. Op welk beroep dit werd gedaan weet ik niet, maar het kan niet zijn omdat één lid van de NAVO wordt aangevallen. Dat zou in dit geval de VS moeten zijn, maar die voert zoals gezegd een illegale oorlog tegen Syrië (m.a.w.: de VS is illegaal op Syrisch grondgebied..)….. Vergeet ik nog een andere NAVO partner, Turkije, dat ook illegaal oorlog voert in Syrië…… (daarover zo meer)

Uiteraard beroept men zich op de terreuraanslagen in ons deel van Europa, echter er wordt nu al meer dan 15 jaar in het Midden-Oosten (inclusief Afghanistan en Libië) oorlog gevoerd, zogenaamd een oorlog tegen terreur, maar het aantal aanslagen neemt alleen maar toe…….. Logisch met grootschalige terreur kweek je terreur…….

In feite kan Nederland door die NAVO beslissing bijna niet anders, dan ook aanvallend optreden in Syrië……. Trouwens was toch al hypocriet, het verzamelen van inlichtingen met F16 straaljagers, waarna de aangewezen doelen door anderen worden gebombardeerd………

Tussen 2 haakjes: Afgelopen week hoorde ik dat Nederland nog steeds patriot raketten in Incirlik (Turkije) heeft staan (dacht dat deze missie al was afgeblazen)……. Weet u wat daarvoor de kosten zijn??? In 2013 lagen de kosten boven de 42 miljoen (Duitsland doet ‘t voor de helft van de prijs…), reken maar uit uw winst….’ Deze raketten staan ter bescherming van Turkije, tegen ‘de agressie’ van Syrië, terwijl Turkije aan de andere kant van de grens illegaal op Syrisch grondgebied oorlog voert, ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Waar Turkije ook tegen het Syrische reguliere leger ‘vecht’, dit door wapenleveranties aan ‘gematigde Syrische rebellen’ (psychopathische moordenaars voor het grootste deel uit andere landen, dan Syrië….)……. En daar geven wij geld aan uit……

Onlangs bleek nog eens dat er 1 miljard van het VS defensiebudget is verdwenen……. Men durfde daar nog serieus over te lullen ook, terwijl iedereen weet, dat daarvoor wapens, munitie en voertuigen aan de ‘gematigde rebellen’ in Syrië werden geleverd…..

Overigens gesproken over dit budget: de NAVO geeft in haar geheel zonder de VS vele keren meer uit aan defensie dan Rusland!!

Van Baalen vindt het een heel ernstige zaak, dat Nederland maar zo weinig uitgeeft aan Defensie……* ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ja, de onbeschofte VVD oliebol wil net als de VS her en der illegale oorlogen voeren en ja dan heb je nog veel meer meer miljarden nodig dan we nu al uitgeven aan de oorlogsmachine, waartoe onze defensie intussen is uitgegroeid…….. Benieuwd ook hoe zijn EU onkostenrekening eruit ziet…….. Van Baalen noemde dit zoals gezegd i.h.k.v. de NAVO eis (eis van het beest Trump uit naam van de VS) tot een veel grotere bijdrage aan de NAVO middels het defensiebudget van de lidstaten.

‘Toevallig ook’ dat Frankrijk en Groot-Brittannië van zins zijn om vanuit Jordanië met grondtroepen Syrië binnen te trekken en het Syrische gebied waar het land grenst aan Irak en Jordanië veilig te stellen middels militair bestuur (waar de ‘gematigde rebellen’ uiteraard welkom zijn……)… Nogmaals: alles illegaal onder het Verdrag van Genève… Nederland dat al met troepen in Irak aanwezig is vergroot het aantal militairen met 20 zodat er 175 Nederlandse militairen in Irak aanwezig zullen zijn, het is niet duidelijk of Nederlandse troepen ook de grens met Syrië zullen oversteken….

Voor die illegale actie, hebben GB en Frankrijk natuurlijk de hulp nodig van meer landen, komt de beslissing van de NAVO om in Syrië te gaan vechten even goed uit!!!

NATO Launches Its Own Operation in the Middle East

The recent NATO summit took a decision to formally become a member of the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS), in addition to its training mission in Iraq.

Last year, NATO started a training and capacity-building mission for Iraqi armed forces. In January, it opened a regional center in Kuwait. NATO AWACS aircraft operate in Syria. But the participation in combat actions against the IS has so far been limited to a few aircraft taking part in the operations of the US-led coalition of the willing. Formally, each alliance member contributes to the coalition, but NATO as its own entity does not. Despite the coalition’s efforts, the IS had grown and expanded in Syria till Russia launched its military operation there in 2015.
France and Germany have always had reservations about the prospect of joining the anti-IS coalition as an alliance, concerned that it would lead to NATO taking over the fight or overshadowing regional partners, such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Italy has been skeptical of the plan.
Despite all the speeches ringing alarm bells about the deadly threat coming from the IS – the mortal enemy of the West that vowed to fight it till it exists – the bloc’s combat ready forces are deploying…against Russia in the Eastern Europe! As a result, the alliance has seen no need to counter the IS plans to create a caliphate. It stubbornly turns a blind eye on the peril coming from the South.
Migrant flows are flooding the territories of European alliance members, terrorist acts are committed to kill citizens of the NATO member states, US and Turkish military are fighting the extremists on the ground but the bloc largely limits itself to words of condemnation while demonizing Russia – the country which says it does not want to provoke confrontation and calls for a dialogue!
The summit’s decision to join the fight comes at a time the US, UK and France-backed rebel forces based in Jordan are reported to be preparing for operations on Syrian soil. On May 18, US aircraft struck a convoy of forces affiliated with the Syrian government. The attack occurred in far southern Syria near al-Tanf, along the Syria-Iraq border – an area where US Special Operations Forces (SOF) are training local fighters. The leading NATO member plunged directly into the Syrian conflict taking sides. Evidently, the move signaled broadening of American involvement in the six-year Syrian civil war. The US has led the anti-IS in Syria since 2014, but so far has avoided engaging with Syrian government or Iran-backed forces.
The US, the UK and France are the leading members of the alliance and there is little doubt they are preparing to cross the border and establish control over the region where the borders of Jordan, Syria, and Iraq meet. They will need support of other nations, especially the allied ones and it coincides with NATO’s decision to become part of the anti-IS operation. The control over the area by NATO-supported forces will include a key highway from Baghdad to Damascus that Iran has used to supply weapons to Syrian forces. Al-Tanf is a strategic crossing located at the intersection of the Jordanian, Iraq, and Syrian borders and commands the No.1 Route linking Baghdad with Damascus and the Jordanian capital of Amman.
It all happens at a time NATO members involved in the combat actions and Israel are deeply concerned over the recent visit of a high-ranking Iraqi military to Damascus to discuss the situation on the Syrian-Iraqi border. The allegation that Iraq’s Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has pivoted his support away from the US-led campaign to the Russia-Turkey-Iran coalition adds even more fuel to the fire.
Definitely, the contribution will increase. Right after the summit on May 25, the Netherlands announced the decision to send two more warplanes to fight the IS. From mid-June a Dutch KDC-10 tanker aircraft will be stationed in Kuwait. And in the last quarter of the year, a C-130 transport plane will be contributed to the fight for two months. About 90 military personnel will go with the planes. The new deployment will temporarily increase the number of Dutch soldiers in Iraq to about 175, twenty more than previously agreed. The Dutch commandos currently supporting Iraqi troops on the front will be equipped with armored vehicles and other weapons systems from next month. The Netherlands also expressed readiness to contribute several F-16 fighters from early next year. Other NATO members will increase the contribution to support the NATO effort. It will increase but it is worth to remember that the bloc’s operations in Libya and Afghanistan ended up in failure.
Expanding NATO role in Syria may lead to either confrontation or coordination, or at least de-confliction, with the Russia-Syria-Iran forces. Turkey, a NATO country, is a member of Russia-Turkey-Iran trio pushing forward the Astana peace process. And the common enemy is the IS. Coordination of efforts appears to be a logical step. The issue should top the NATO-Russia Council agenda along with the plans to establish de-escalation zones. It could be discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit.
Some arrangement with Russia is unavoidable. But is it an achievable goal with NATO building up its forces in the Baltics, Poland, Romania and the whole Black Sea region? Can Russia and NATO fruitfully coordinate efforts, or even cooperate, in Syria with tensions running high in Europe? Evidently, the standoff between Russia and NATO benefits no one but IS. Finding mutual understanding is indispensable to defeat the common enemy. Actually, playing off the West against Russia is the IS only hope for survival. That’s the expectation the group must be deprived of. It remains to be seen if these arguments are taken into consideration as NATO joins the fray.
