Op The Empire Files van 18 december jl. een interview van Abby Martin met Kei Pritzker over Venezuela, waar Pritzker ook werkzaam was als toezichthouder bij de laatste verkiezingen in dat land, die afgelopen 6 december werden gehouden. Verkiezingen die door oorlogshitser Edwin Koopman van tevoren al werden afgedaan als vals, zo vals dat de oppositie niet meedeed, zo loog deze plork o.a. in Trouw op 3 december jl., terwijl de gematigde oppositie, die NB veel groter is dan de extreem rechtse oppositie, wel degelijk heeft deelgenomen aan die verkiezingen (straks meer over de neoliberale lobbyist Koopman, die zijn lasterlijke propaganda ook verspreid via de eertijds progressieve VPRO). Zoals je kan verwachten, althans als je het buitenlandbeleid van de VS t.a.v. Venezuela een beetje volgt, heeft Washington geen goed woord over voor de gematigde oppositie en blijft het keihard liegen dat dit maar een minderheid is van de totale oppositie…….
De extreem rechtse oppositie wordt gesteund door Washington, die zoals gewoonlijk totaal geen probleem heeft om samen te werken met fascisten….. Vandaar ook dat Washington fascist Guaidó heeft aangesteld als president van Venezuela terwijl hij voor deze zeer illegale ingreep van de VS amper bekend was onder het volk…… Volgens de VS was Guaidó oppositieleider, waar zijn partij niets eens goed was voor 2% van de stemmen in Venezuela……. Ondanks dat, controleerbaar voor iedereen, hebben Canada en de EU de ingreep van de VS goedgekeurd en steunen zij Guaidó, zoals ze ook de sancties tegen Venezuela steunen die intussen aan meer dan 100.000 mensen het leven hebben gekost……
Een pro-Maduro demo in Venezuela, ‘duidelijk een minderheid van het volk’:
Als ‘dank’ voor het aanstellen van hem als president, heeft Guaidó meteen daarna laten weten dat hij de nationalisaties van VS bedrijven ongedaan zal maken als hij de officiële president van Venezuela zal zijn, nationalisaties gedaan door de socialistische regering onder Chavez van wie Maduro de opvolger is…… Precies daarom is het de VS dan ook te doen, plus uiteraard de enorme grote bodemschatten van dat land, waaronder een nog niet in ontwikkeling gebracht olieveld, dat tot de grootste der aarde behoort……..
Schandalig genoeg steunt Guaidó de illegale VS sancties tegen in feite het Venezolaanse volk, zoals gezegd meer dan 100.000 doden, waarmee Guaidó ten overvloede nog eens aangeeft schijt aan het volk te hebben…….
Na de verkiezingen loog men dat degenen die voor Maduro zouden stemmen voedselhulp kregen, een meer dan belachelijke leugen daar iedereen die dat nodig heeft een ruim voedselpakket van de overheid krijgt, dit vanuit een programma dat bekend staat als CLAP, lokale comités die ook voedsel produceren en verspreiden…… De meeste doden vallen dan ook door grote tekorten aan medicijnen, medische hulpmiddelen en medische apparaten, die volgens Washington niet onder de sancties vallen, maar wel degelijk worden geblokkeerd (de VS, de grootste terreurentiteit ter wereld, heeft eerder al een enorm kapitaal aan Venezolaanse geld in beslag genomen dat was bedoeld voor de aankoop van medicijnen enz….)…. Het feit dat men achteraf alsnog liegt over de verkiezingen geeft al aan dat men de uitslag wel degelijk belangrijk vindt!! Internationale toezichthouders hebben dan ook niets van dergelijke manipulaties gezien, in feite onnodig om te melden, maar wel belangrijk om de anti-Venezolaanse propaganda in de reguliere westerse media aan de kaak te stellen!!
Pritzker stelt wel dat de aanhang voor de partij van Maduro, Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, ofwel: PSUV, zo groot is daar dit simpelweg is te danken aan het feit dat eerst Chavez en daarna Maduro. in diens voetsporen, zoveel hebben gedaan voor de grote arme onderlaag die eerder altijd werd verdrukt door de elite en haar politieke macht (niet gebaseerd op aantallen kiezers, maar op macht over politie, leger en geheime diensten)…… Zo hebben Chavez en Maduro de arme bevolking: -gealfabetiseerd middels gratis scholing, -goede en zeer goedkope huisvesting gegeven, plus -een goede en gratis gezondheidszorg!! Uiteraard heeft de PSUV er ook voor gezorgd dat arbeiders niet langer kunnen worden uitgebuit door hun bazen, of dat nu Venezolaanse dan wel buitenlandse directies zijn….. En nee deze zaken zijn er niet alleen voor aanhangers van Maduro, maar voor iedereen die het nodig heeft, of je nu wel of geen aanhanger bent van PSUV…..
Geen wonder dus dat de meeste Venezolanen Guaidó haten als de pest en zelfs onder zijn eigen mensen zijn er die hem haten, niet voor niets, zo schijnt Guaidó zijn personeel regelmatig niet uit te betalen…….
Joe Biden, de aankomend president van de VS, heeft al laten weten dat hij de smerige politiek tegen het Venezolaanse volk zal blijven steunen, sterker nog en dit komt niet uit het interview: Biden heeft Trump meermaals verweten slap op te treden tegen Venezuela….. Als je 100.000 doden een slap optreden noemt blijft er maar één harder beleid over: oorlogsvoering…….
De bedoeling van deze sancties, die je zonder meer als een misdaad tegen de menselijkheid kan noemen, is het volk zo moedeloos maken dat ze de straat opgaan en een andere leider eisen, echter dat weet men maar niet voor elkaar te krijgen, logisch ook daar het grootste deel van de bevolking achter Maduro of de gematigde oppositie staat….. De westerse media en politici die spreken van een dictatuur houden de mond dan ook over het feit dat 1 op de 3 Venezolanen stemt op Maduro, immers in een dictatuur staat het volk volgens deze dictatuur voor 90% of meer achter de dictator, je zou wel dom zijn om te zeggen dat 30% van de bevolking achter zo’n dictator staat…….
Op 6 december jl. was Marc Bessems, NOS verslaggever te horen in het nieuws van 13.00 u. De plork durfde daar te stellen dat de oppositie niet meedeed aan de Venezolaanse verkiezingen, daar er geen sprake was van eerlijke verkiezingen…… De sukkel wist niet eens dat Biden achter fascist Guaidó staat, ofwel deze hufter had zijn huiswerk niet gemaakt (of wilde deze niet maken), immers dan had hij ten eerste geweten dat het grootste deel van de oppositie wel meedeed aan de verkiezingen en ten tweede dat Biden al vanaf de voorverkiezingen van de Democratisch Partij heeft laten westen dat hij het optreden van Trump maar slap vond (en dat destijds al met meer dan 50.000 doden door de illegale sancties van de Trump administratie……)…..
Een dag later, dus op 7 december jl. liet men op Radio1 na 9.30- u. weten dat Maduro de winst voor de verkiezingen had geclaimd. Ook stelde men dat de oppositie 70% van de stemmen had binnengesleept (Maduro 30%)…. Moet je nagaan terwijl men in ons land (en op Radio1, plus BNR) de dagen voorafgaand aan de verkiezingen en zelfs nog een dag eerder stelde dat de oppositie niet deelnam aan de verkiezingen…… Guaidó had blijkbaar ook meegedaan en hij had zoals het er toen uitzag 3 of 4% van de stemmen….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Ofwel zelfs een deel van de fascistische oppositie, de partij van Guaidó, had ook meegedaan aan de verkiezingen…..
Op 15 december jl. was Edwin Koopman rond 8.18 u. te horen op Radio1 en deze grootlobbyist van het buitenlandbeleid van de VS kwam met de mededeling dat het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) het waarschijnlijk acht dat in Venezuela misdaden tegen de menselijkheid worden gepleegd. Volgens Koopman bestaan die misdaden uit willekeurige arrestaties, martelingen en zelfs verkrachtingen door politie en andere veiligheidstroepen, geen bewijzen, maar als de media het maar vaak genoeg roepen, zoals ook de opvolgende administraties in de VS dat al jaren doen, gelooft uiteindelijk het grootste deel van het volk deze leugens….. Weer kwam koopman met de leugen dat de politie in 2017 op demonstranten zou hebben geschoten, terwijl onderzoek aantoonde dat het hier om door de VS ingehuurde en geïnstrueerde moordenaars ging…….* (met de bedoeling daarmee het volk te keren tegen Maduro)
Niet vreemd ook dat Koopman stelde dat het grootste deel van het volk tegen Maduro is, een aantoonbare leugen, zie alleen al de uitslag van de verkiezingen, waaraan zijn favoriet Guaidó wel had deelgenomen (als je Koopman moest geloven heeft de gehele oppositie niet meegedaan aan de verkiezingen) en waarbij deze fascist belachelijk weinig stemmen haalde……
Oorlogshitser Koopman sprak over misdaden tegen de menselijkheid, terwijl de VS de grootste misdadiger is op dat gebied, ook in Venezuela**, immers door de illegale sancties van de VS zijn intussen meer dan 100.000 mensen om het leven gekomen, ofwel die zijn in feite door de VS vermoord….. Nee, daar hoor je Koopman niet over, hij spuugt over de slechte economische situatie in Venezuela en schuift de schuld daarvoor in de schoenen van Maduro, terwijl iedereen met meer dan 2 hersencellen kan begrijpen dat deze situatie 1 op 1 is te danken aan de illegale sancties van de VS, nogmaals: een enorme misdaad tegen de menselijkheid!!!
Koopman moet de oren van z’n kop schamen, wat een leugenaar!!!!
(de opgeblazen oorlogshitser en
oorlogsmisdadiger Pompeo beweert dat Hezbollah werkzaam is in Venezuela
en daar een leger heeft dat gezien zijn woorden amper onderdoet voor de
gezamenlijke NAVO troepen… ha! ha! ha! Ook hier is totaal geen bewijs
voor deze belachelijke beschuldiging…)
‘Call of
Duty: Modern Warfare’, een ‘videospel’ over oorlogsvoering heeft een nieuwe aflevering, waarin o.a ‘het heroïsche werk’ van de White Helmets wordt weergegeven, een
nieuwe poging om Assad en zijn regering te demoniseren, niet voor
niets ook dat GB onlangs poogde een gifgasaanval in de schoenen van
Assad te schuiven, de zoveelste poging wel te verstaan……*
De schrijver van dit spel, Taylor Kurosaki heeft zijn best gedaan om de White Helmets te portretteren
als een organisatie die goed werk verricht in Syrië en is bedoeld om nog meer
steun te genereren voor deze organisatie…..
De White Helmets, een organisatie die in werkelijkheid overduidelijk is gerelateerd aan terreurgroepen, groepen die het westen
afschildert als gematigde rebellen, terwijl
het moordende, verkrachtende en martelende psychopaten zijn, die bovendien met medeweten van het westen over gifgassen als chlorine en sarin beschikken…… Psychopaten die o.a. met Nederlands belastinggeld van jou en mij werden gesteund……
De White Helmets zijn meermaals betrapt in het bijstaan van de zogenaamde gematigde rebellen en het zelf uitoefenen van terreur……..
De White Helmets werd door een Britse ex-officier en particuliere
‘militaire aannemer’ op poten gezet. Deze figuur, James Le Mesurier,
wilde daarmee het debat over Syrië sturen in de richting van het
afzetten van Assad. ‘Missie geslaagd’, grootschalige terreur met als ‘offer’ meer dan 500.000 vermoorde Syriërs, echter het afzetten van
Assad wilde maar niet lukken…..

‘Call Of Duty’ Encourages Support for Syria’s White Helmets
(CJ Opinion) — The official
trailer for
the latest Call
of Duty was
released a few days ago, and it features the Syria narrative
management operation known as the White Helmets depicted in heroic
roles. Characters wearing the organization’s signature headgear are
seen clearing rubble in part
of the trailer for Call
of Duty: Modern Warfare.
To
give you an idea how popular the CoD franchise is, as of this writing
the official Youtube version of the trailer has 27 million views.
To
be clear, the characters in the game are most certainly intended to
resemble the White Helmets of Syria, and their presence there is most
certainly intended to increase support for and interest in that
group. How do I know? Its game writer has explicitly said so.
“Kurosaki
says he wants ‘Call of Duty’ to be spoken of as on par with the
best war films, and he hopes ‘Modern Warfare’ will inspire fans
to check out the harrowing and eye-opening documentaries ‘The White
Helmets’ or ‘Last Man in Aleppo,” the LA
Times reports.
The
White Helmets are what legendary journalist John Pilger describes as
“a
complete propaganda construct“,
an operation designed by former British army officer and private
military contractor James Le
Mesurier to
manipulate the narrative about what’s going on in Syria. This
excellent half-hour mini-documentary by
James Corbett clearly outlines the way the operation is used to
create footage implicating the Assad government in the slaughter of
civilians via chemical weapons attacks and other camera-friendly war
crimes, the mountain of evidence of their ties to literal terrorist
organizations in Syria, and the western funding and media
manipulations that have been pouring into elevating the outfit.
It’s
a brilliant invention, really. Have a purportedly neutral group
filming on the ground in “rebel”-held areas (where the White
Helmets exclusively operate), and you can ensure an endless supply of
footage which can be used to paint a longtime
western target for regime change as
a barbarian who needs to be ousted. And indeed, the extremist
jihadist factions which overran Syria with the
backingof the
US and its
allies nearly
succeeded in toppling Assad prior
to Russia’s intervention,
and we may be certain that the agenda to control who rules over the
geostrategically crucial region remains as intact as ever.
The
pro-White Helmets propaganda is not Call
of Duty‘s
first foray into US military narrative management. As noted
by journalist Max Blumenthal in
April, an earlier CoD game depicted the assassination of the leader
of Venezuela and, bizarrely, attacking Venezuela’s hydroelectric
dam and energy grid with the goal of causing power outages like the
ones the nation has been struggling with. Citing public information,
Blumenthal documents how such games have been “developed with
substantial input from America’s military intelligence apparatus”,
as well as the CoD designer’s involvement with the Pentagon and the
NATO narrative management firm the Atlantic Council.
People
playing these games, mostly impressionable young men, are manipulated
into desiring to accomplish the goals that are laid out for them in
order to win, all of which involve killing and many of which happen
to align with preexisting US military agendas. They are desensitized
to mass military violence, trained to support and identify with US
military campaigns, and taught that being a member of the military
might just be a fun and noble way to spend one’s future.
Propaganda
in video games doesn’t get the kind of pushback you see against
propaganda in news media and movies, largely because the content in
the games is generally only viewed individually by those who are
engrossed in playing them. It’s this whole closed-off world that is
manipulating minds with very little scrutiny compared to other forms
of media, which is troubling, because the video game industry is so
vast that for many years its earnings have
eclipsed those of the movie and music industries combined.
This
needs more attention. The sane, healthy response to learning
that one’s government and its allies were arming and training
terrorist groups in Syria would have been screaming, earth-shaking
rage for months, accompanied by a demand for an unequivocal apology,
immediate repair of all damage done, and war crimes tribunals for
everyone who was involved. Instead, the news passed by with barely a
whisper, and now when you see Syria mentioned it’s generally to
condemn its president for fighting back against that unforgivably
depraved act of regime change interventionism. This has been
happening because people have been propagandized. Nothing will change
until we find a way to help human minds unplug from the narrative
control matrix and awaken
to what’s really going on.
Onlangs
kwam The Guardian met het verhaal dat Paul Manafort contact zou
hebben gehad met Julian Assange in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in
Londen. Een verhaal dat als onzin werd doorgeprikt met aantoonbare
leugens in The Guardian. Zelfs reguliere mediaorganen twijfelden aan
het artikel.
Blijkbaar
vond The Guardian het gebrachte artikel daarna zelf ook dubieus, daar
men de tekst heeft aangepast, zonder daar echter melding van te
maken. In de aangepaste tekst wordt nu gesproken over anonieme, niet
te controleren bronnen……. De schrijver van het Guardian
propagandistische artikel, Luke Harding, stelde in het artikel dat
Manafort meermaals werd gezien in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade en dat
één keer ‘zelfs met 2 Russen….’
Met het
Guardian artikel toonde Harding zogenaamd aan dat Assange contacten
had met de Russen en dat die na het hacken van de DNC server, de emails van Hillary Clinton zouden
hebben doen toekomen aan WikiLeaks, ofwel één van ‘de
smoking guns’ in het Russiagate sprookje….. Kortom de Russen en
Assange zouden hebben samengespannen om Clinton haar presidentschap
door de neus te boren…..
Uiteraard
gebruiken ook de democraten in de VS het fantasie verhaal van Harding om te
stellen dat Assange en Rusland de presidentsverkiezingen van hen
hebben gestolen, terwijl echte deskundigen en ingewijden uitvoerig
stellen, dat de emails werden gelekt vanuit het campagneteam van
Clinton, waar de naam Seth Rich telkens weer opduikt……
Seth Rich
was medewerker van het campagneteam, hij was zwaar gefrustreerd over
de smerige spelletjes van Clinton en de top van haar campagneteam, om de voorverkiezing in 2016 van Bernie Sanders te stelen…….. Sanders was
de tweede belangrijke democratische kandidaat voor het presidentschap
in de VS. Zelfs Obama gaf toe dat e.e.a door het campagneteam werd gelekt naar WikiLeaks….*
Rich
werd vermoord, kort nadat de mails waren gelekt naar WikiLeaks, volgens de politie ging het om een roofmoord, waarbij Rich vreemd genoeg niet werd beroofd
en zelfs dure sieraden niet werden gestolen…….. De poging om Sanders buiten
spel te zetten is gelukt, zoals we al en paar jaar weten.
Manafort
heeft ontkent dat hij zelfs maar één keer met Assange heeft
gesproken en Assange heeft The Guardian gedreigd met een proces
wegens laster…… De bedoeling in het hele Russiagate verhaal is
dan ook Assange als spion neer te zetten, ofwel hij heeft geen recht op bescherming zoals dit het geval zou moeten zijn met (onderzoeks-) journalisten, waarbij WikiLeaks wordt weggezet als een staatsvijandig
vehikel van de Russen…… Waarmee de democraten dan de schuld van het
verlies van de verkiezingen in de schoenen schuiven van WikiLeaks,
haar oprichter Assange en uiteraard de Russen…..**
Met
artikelen als die van Harding in The Guardian moet de publieke opinie
voorbereid worden op het uit de Ecuadoraanse ambassade zetten van
Assange en de arrestatie van deze journalist, die zich met niets anders dan
zijn werk bezighield, dit in sterke tegenstelling tot het overgrote deel van de
journalisten, die voor de reguliere westerse (massa-) media
werken…….
Deze
media hebben i.p.v. Assange te steunen, een taak van onafhankelijke mediaorganen en hun journalisten, hem zwart gemaakt in de publieke opinie,
waarbij zelfs werd gesteld dat Assange alleen de Ecuadoraanse
ambassade in vluchtte, om publiciteit te genereren…. Gelukkig voor
Assange werd ook die belachelijke claim doorgeprikt, toen per
ongeluk stukken werden gepubliceerd waaruit bleek dat de VS een
aanklacht heeft opgesteld voor Assange en op grond waarvan Assange
een lange gevangenisstraf te wachten staat…….
The
Guardian ging zelfs zover dat het een VN panel met experts
belachelijk probeerde te maken, die stelden dat het totaal
onwettelijk was dat Assange niet zonder gearresteerd te worden de
ambassade zou kunnen verlaten…..
De
schrijver van het artikel hieronder, Jonathan Cook, haalt ook Glenn
Greenwald aan, waar het om de claim gaat dat Manafort Assange zou
hebben bezocht. Deze stelt dat het onmogelijk is om ongezien de
Ecuadoraanse ambassade binnen te komen, daar Londen propvol camera’s
hangt en de Ecuadoraanse ambassade, sinds Assange daar binnen
vluchtte, van alle kanten in de gaten werd en wordt gehouden, niet alleen
door camera’s, de politie, maar ook door journalisten……
Als
Manafort inderdaad in de ambassade zou zijn geweest, volgens The
Guardian 3 keer, in 2013, 2015 en 2016, zouden daar zeker bewijzen
voor zijn…….
Intussen is The Guardian gekomen met een volgens deze fake news brenger nog betere fundering van de (ongefundeerde) beschuldigingen aan het adres van Assange (en WikiLeaks) en zijn zogenaamde verbintenis met Rusland, ook nu weer geen enkel bewijs……. Assange zal en moet hangen en in dit geval door een mediaorgaan dat stelt onafhankelijk te zijn en haar berichtgeving dubbel zou checken….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

The
Guardian Continues to Escalate Its Vilification of Julian Assange
The
Guardian did not make a mistake in vilifying Assange without a shred
of evidence. It did what it is designed to do.***
(CD) — It
is welcome that finally there has been a little pushback, including
from leading journalists, to the Guardian’s long-running
vilification of Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks.
Reporter
Luke Harding’s latest article, claiming that
Donald Trump’s disgraced former campaign manager Paul Manafort
secretly visited Assange in Ecuador’s embassy in London on three
occasions, is so full of holes that even hardened opponents of
Assange in the corporate media are struggling to stand by it.
Faced
with the backlash, the Guardian quickly – and very quietly – rowed
back its
initial certainty that its story was based on verified facts.
Instead, it amended the text, without acknowledging it had done so,
to attribute the claims to unnamed, and uncheckable, “sources”.
The
propaganda function of the piece is patent. It is intended to provide
evidence for long-standing allegations that Assange conspired with
Trump, and Trump’s supposed backers in the Kremlin, to damage
Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race.
The
Guardian’s latest story provides a supposedly stronger foundation
for an existing narrative: that Assange and Wikileaks knowingly
published emails hacked by Russia from the Democratic party’s
servers. In truth, there is no
public evidence that
the emails were hacked, or that Russia was involved. Central actors
have suggested instead that the emails were leaked from within the
Democratic party.
Nonetheless,
this unverified allegation has been aggressively exploited by the
Democratic leadership because it shifts attention away both from its
failure to mount an effective electoral challenge to Trump and from
the damaging contents of the emails. These show that party
bureaucrats sought to rig
the primaries to
make sure Clinton’s challenger for the Democratic nomination,
Bernie Sanders, lost.
To
underscore the intended effect of the Guardian’s new claims,
Harding even throws in a casual and unsubstantiated reference to
“Russians” joining Manafort in supposedly meeting Assange.
Manafort
has denied the
Guardian’s claims, while Assange has threatened to sue the
Guardian for libel.
‘Responsible
for Trump’
The
emotional impact of the Guardian story is to suggest that Assange is
responsible for four years or more of Trump rule. But more
significantly, it bolsters the otherwise risible
claim that
Assange is not a publisher – and thereby entitled to the
protections of a free press, as enjoyed by the Guardian or the New
York Times – but the head of an organisation engaged in espionage
for a foreign power.
The
intention is to deeply discredit Assange, and by extension the
Wikileaks organisation, in the eyes of right-thinking liberals. That,
in turn, will make it much easier to silence Assange and the vital
cause he represents: the use of new media to hold to account the old,
corporate media and political elites through the imposition of far
greater transparency.
The
Guardian story will prepare public opinion for the moment when
Ecuador’s rightwing government under President Lenin Moreno forces
Assange out of the embassy, having already withdrawn most of his
rights to use digital media.
It
will soften opposition when the UK moves to arrest Assange
on self-serving
bail violation charges and
extradites him to the US. And it will pave the way for the US legal
system to lock Assange up for a very long time.
For
the best part of a decade, any claims by Assange’s supporters that
avoiding this fate was the reason Assange originally sought asylum in
the embassy was ridiculed by corporate journalists, not least at the
Guardian.
Even
when a United Nations panel of experts in international law ruled in
2016 that Assange was being arbitrarily – and unlawfully –
detained by the UK, Guardian writers led efforts to discredit the UN

Now
Assange and his supporters have been proved right once again. An
administrative error this month revealed that the US justice
department had secretly
filed criminal charges against
Assange.
Heavy
surveillance
The
problem for the Guardian, which should have been obvious to its
editors from the outset, is that any visits by Manafort would be
easily verifiable without relying on unnamed “sources”.
Glenn
Greenwald is far from alone in noting that
London is possibly the most surveilled city in the world, with CCTV
cameras everywhere. The environs of the Ecuadorian embassy are
monitored especially heavily, with continuous filming by the UK and
Ecuadorian authorities and most likely by the US and other actors
with an interest in Assange’s fate.
The
idea that Manafort or “Russians” could have wandered into the
embassy to meet Assange even once without their trail, entry and
meeting being intimately scrutinised and recorded is simply
preposterous.
According
to Greenwald: “If Paul Manafort … visited Assange at the Embassy,
there would be ample amounts of video and other photographic proof
demonstrating that this happened. The Guardian provides none of
that.”
Former
British ambassador Craig Murray also points
out the
extensive security checks insisted on by the embassy to which any
visitor to Assange must submit. Any visits by Manafort would have
been logged.
In
fact, the Guardian obtained the
embassy’s logs in May, and has never made any mention of either
Manafort or “Russians” being identified in them. It did not refer
to the logs in its latest story.
Murray:
The
problem with this latest fabrication is that [Ecuador’s President]
Moreno had already released the visitor logs to the Mueller inquiry.
Neither Manafort nor these ‘Russians’ are in the visitor logs …
What possible motive would the Ecuadorean government have for
facilitating secret unrecorded visits by Paul Manafort?Furthermore
it is impossible that the intelligence agency – who were in charge
of the security – would not know the identity of these alleged
‘Russians’.
No
fact-checking
It
is worth noting it should be vitally important for a serious
publication like the Guardian to ensure its claims are unassailably
true – both because Assange’s personal fate rests on their
veracity, and because, even more importantly, a fundamental right,
the freedom of the press, is at stake.
Given
this, one would have expected the Guardian’s editors to have
insisted on the most stringent checks imaginable before going to
press with Harding’s story. At a very minimum, they should have
sought out a response from Assange and Manafort before publication.
Neither precaution was taken.
I
worked for the Guardian for a number of years, and know well the
layers of checks that any highly sensitive story has to go through
before publication. In that lengthy process, a variety of
commissioning editors, lawyers, backbench editors and the editor
herself, Kath Viner, would normally insist on cuts to anything that
could not be rigorously defended and corroborated.
And
yet this piece seems to have been casually waved through, given a
green light even though its profound shortcomings were evident to a
range of well-placed analysts and journalists from the outset.
That
at the very least hints that the Guardian thought they had
“insurance” on this story. And the only people who could have
promised that kind of insurance are the security and intelligence
services – presumably of Britain, the United States and / or
Ecuador.
It
appears the Guardian has simply taken this story, provided by spooks,
at face value. Even if it later turns out that Manafort did visit
Assange, the Guardian clearly had no compelling evidence for its
claims when it published them. That is profoundly irresponsible
journalism – fake news – that should be of the gravest concern to
readers.
A
pattern, not an aberration
Despite
all this, even analysts critical of the Guardian’s behaviour have
shown a glaring failure to understand that its latest coverage
represents not an aberration by the paper but decisively fits with a
pattern.
Glenn
Greenwald, who once had an influential column in the Guardian until
an apparent, though unacknowledged, falling out with his employer
over the Edward Snowden revelations, wrote a series of baffling
observations about the Guardian’s latest story.
First,
he suggested it
was simply evidence of the Guardian’s long-standing (and
well-documented) hostility towards Assange.
“The
Guardian, an otherwise solid and reliable paper, has such a pervasive
and unprofessionally personal hatred for Julian Assange that it has
frequently dispensed with all journalistic standards in order to
malign him.”
It
was also apparently evidence of the paper’s clickbait tendencies:
“They
[Guardian editors] knew that publishing this story would cause
partisan warriors to excitedly spread the story, and that cable news
outlets would hyperventilate over it, and that they’d reap the
rewards regardless of whether the story turned out to be true or
false.”
And
finally, in a bizarre tweet, Greenwald opined, “I hope the story
[maligning Assange] turns out true” – apparently because
maintenance of the Guardian’s reputation is more important than
Assange’s fate and the right of journalists to dig up embarrassing
secrets without fear of being imprisoned.
The reason it will be so devastating to the Guardian if this story turns out false is because the Guardian has an institutional hatred for Assange. They’ve proven they’ll dispense with journalistic standards for it. And factions within Ecuador’s government know they can use them.
What
this misses is that the Guardian’s attacks on Assange are not
exceptional or motivated solely by personal animosity. They are
entirely predictable and systematic. Rather than being the reason for
the Guardian violating basic journalistic standards and ethics, the
paper’s hatred of Assange is a symptom of a deeper malaise in the
Guardian and the wider corporate media.
Even
aside from its decade-long campaign against Assange, the Guardian is
far from “solid and reliable”, as Greenwald claims. It has been
at the forefront of the relentless, and unhinged, attacks on Labour
leader Jeremy Corbyn for prioritising the rights of Palestinians over
Israel’s right to continue its belligerent occupation. Over the
past three years, the Guardian has injected credibility into the
Israel lobby’s desperate efforts to tar Corbyn as an anti-semite.

Similarly,
the Guardian worked tirelessly to promote Clinton and undermine
Sanders in the 2016 Democratic nomination process – another reason
the paper has been so assiduous in promoting the idea that Assange,
aided by Russia, was determined to promote Trump over Clinton for the
presidency.
The
Guardian’s coverage of Latin America, especially of populist
leftwing governments that have rebelled against traditional and
oppressive US hegemony in the region, has long grated with analysts
and experts. Its especial venom has been reserved for leftwing
figures like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, democratically elected but
official enemies of the US, rather than the region’s rightwing
authoritarians beloved of Washington.
The
Guardian has been vocal in the so-called “fake news” hysteria,
decrying the influence of social media, the only place where leftwing
dissidents have managed to find a small foothold to promote their
politics and counter the corporate media narrative.
The
Guardian has painted social media chiefly as a platform overrun by
Russian trolls, arguing that this should justify ever-tighter
restrictions that have so far curbed critical voices of the dissident
left more than the right.
Heroes
of the neoliberal order
Equally,
the Guardian has made clear who its true heroes are. Certainly not
Corbyn or Assange, who threaten to disrupt the entrenched neoliberal
order that is hurtling us towards climate breakdown and economic
collapse.
Its
pages, however, are readily available to the latest effort to prop up
the status quo from Tony Blair, the man who led Britain, on false
pretences, into the largest crime against humanity in living memory –
the attack on Iraq.
That
“humanitarian intervention” cost the lives of many hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis and created a vacuum that destabilised much of
the Middle East, sucked in Islamic jihadists like al-Qaeda and ISIS,
and contributed to the migrant crisis in Europe that has fuelled the
resurgence of the far-right. None of that is discussed in the
Guardian or considered grounds for disqualifying Blair as an arbiter
of what is good for Britain and the world’s future.
The
Guardian also has an especial soft spot for blogger Elliot Higgins,
who, aided by the Guardian, has shot to unlikely prominence as a
self-styled “weapons expert”. Like Luke Harding, Higgins
invariably seems ready to echo whatever the British and American
security services need verifying “independently”.
Higgins
and his well-staffed website Bellingcat have taken on for themselves
the role of arbiters of truth on many foreign affairs issues, taking
a prominent role in advocating for narratives that promote US and
NATO hegemony while demonising Russia, especially in highly contested
arenas such as Syria.
That
clear partisanship should be no surprise, given that Higgins now
enjoys an “academic” position at, and funding from, the Atlantic
Council, a high-level, Washington-based think-tank founded to drum up
support for NATO and justify its imperialist agenda.
Improbably,
the Guardian has adopted Higgins as the poster-boy for a supposed
citizen journalism it has sought to undermine as “fake news”
whenever it occurs on social media without the endorsement of
state-backed organisations.
The
truth is that the Guardian has not erred in this latest story
attacking Assange, or in its much longer-running campaign to vilify
him. With this story, it has done what it regularly does when
supposedly vital western foreign policy interests are at stake – it
simply regurgitates an elite-serving, western narrative.
Its
job is to shore up a consensus on the left for attacks on leading
threats to the existing, neoliberal order: whether they are a
platform like Wikileaks promoting whistle-blowing against a corrupt
western elite; or a politician like Jeremy Corbyn seeking to break
apart the status quo on the rapacious financial industries or
Israel-Palestine; or a radical leader like Hugo Chavez who threatened
to overturn a damaging and exploitative US dominance of “America’s
backyard”; or social media dissidents who have started to chip away
at the elite-friendly narratives of corporate media, including the
Guardian.
The
Guardian did not make a mistake in vilifying Assange without a shred
of evidence. It did what it is designed to do.

Julian Assange zit nu al
8 jaar in feite gevangen in de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in
Londen. Ondanks dat de aanklacht door de Zweedse justitie tegen Assange voor verkrachting van
2 vrouwen (aanklachten gekocht door de VS), werd ingetrokken vanwege totale
ongeloofwaardigheid en het ontbreken van ook maar een flinter aan
bewijs, blijft hij ‘gevangen’ in die ambassade…….
Groot-Brittannië, eerst
onder opperschoft Cameron van de Tories en nu hare kwaadaardigheid
May van dezelfde inhumane neoliberale partij, blijven inzetten op de
arrestatie van Assange, daar hij geen gehoor gaf aan Zweden zich te
melden voor vervolging wegens niet gepleegde verkrachtingen……. Hoe zot wil je
het hebben? Het is dan ook duidelijk dat GB gemene zaak maakte met de

Ecuador (onder een nieuwe
regering) wil Assange uit haar ambassade zetten en nu blijkt ook nog
eens de reden, die niet alleen is gelegen in de politieke kleur van
de Ecuadoraanse regering, vooral is ingegeven door een enorme zak
geld uit de VS, te weten bijna 1 miljard dollar……..
Dit
alles terwijl Assange niet anders dan z’n werk als journalist heeft
gedaan…… Schande ook dat de reguliere (massa-) media niet al lang
keihard aan de bel hebben getrokken bij zowel Zweden,
Groot-Brittannië als de VS, om de vervolging van Assange onmiddellijk
te stoppen…… Ofwel het zoveelste teken dat die media volledig in

Het label IDB, direct onder dit bericht staat voor de Inter-American Development Bank, deze ploertenbank stak 497 miljoen dollar in deze zaak en misdaadbank Goldman Sachs ging daar met 500 miljoen dollar nog iets overheen, samen bijna 1 miljard dollar……….

Acties als de sociale media afschilderen als onbetrouwbaar, terwijl die sociale media nu juist de terechte vragen stellen, of de feiten weergeven onder andere n.a.v. berichtgeving van de zogenaamde onafhankelijke media, berichtgeving ook over de manipulaties van overheden als die van de VS, manipulaties die ten koste gaan van het grootste deel van de bevolking, maar ook berichtgeving uit gebieden waar de reguliere media niet durven te werken.
‘Onafhankelijke media’ (lees: de reguliere media of massamedia) die de laatste 20 jaar (en al lang daarvoor) aantoonbaar een enorme berg ‘fake news’ (nepnieuws) hebben verspreid, neem alleen al de berichtgeving vooraf en tijdens de illegale oorlogen van de VS, met hulp van de NAVO, tegen landen als Irak, Libië en Syrië…..
Op
naar een politiestaat met totale controle op de burger, vanaf het
moment dat die z’n huis verlaat totdat deze ‘s avonds de ogen
sluit…. (ja, ook binnen zal men ons meer en meer in de gaten kunnen houden en dat niet alleen via het internet, zo is men bijvoorbeeld al doende ‘drones’ te ontwikkelen ter grootte van een insect…)
Op naar een nieuwe fascistische orde, waar zoals nu al gebeurt, de media de
propaganda voor hun rekening nemen en gewoon volledig mee liegen in het valse koor van politici, geheime diensten

Hier
het verhaal van Abby Martin, een geweldige (echte) journalist, die door
toedoen van de VS met haar ‘Empire Files‘ werkloos dreigt te
worden, overgenomen van 9 for News…….
Aanval
op alternatieve media neemt groteske vormen aan. Wat ze nu weer
hebben gedaan…
Ze
maakte voor The Empire Files zo’n 100 onthullende
documentaires over onder meer de VS, Israël en Venezuela, die
ongetwijfeld een doorn in het oog zijn van het establishment.
Zwijgen
op te leggen
“Er
lijkt geen oplossing voorhanden te zijn en het einde is nog niet in
zicht,” lieten de makers van het programma weten in een verklaring.
“Dit is een financiële aanval.”
Eerder
werd complottheoreticus Alex Jones van social media verwijderd. Het
begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat men druk bezig is alle
andersdenkenden het zwijgen op te leggen.
Ook
de Facebookpagina van de Zuid-Amerikaanse zender teleSUR werd onlangs
plotseling offline gehaald. Het netwerk sprak van ‘een alarmerende
ontwikkeling’.
Gehoorzamen
Hetzelfde
overkwam nieuwssite Venezuelanalysis, na publicatie van ‘een
briljant stuk over de eenzijdige en vooringenomen berichten in de
mainstream media over Venezuela’.
“De
VS is nu in oorlog met Iran, Rusland, China, de EU, Venezuela en
andersdenkenden,” reageerde emeritus hoogleraar James Petras van de
Binghamton University.
“Dus
terwijl de autoritaire positie van de VS versterkt, komen Facebook en
andere media onder toenemende druk te staan om Washington te
gehoorzamen,” voegde hij toe.
Bestrijden
van afwijkende meningen
Facebook
werkt sinds kort samen met het Digital Forensic Reserach Lab (DFRLab) van de
door de NAVO gesteunde Atlantic Council. Deze organisatie houdt
zich bezig met het verspreiden van de westerse ideologie.
Het
doel van de oorlog tegen onafhankelijke media is volgens Martin het
bestrijden van afwijkende meningen, onder het mom van de strijd tegen
nepnieuws en Russische inmenging.
John Oliver heeft onlangs een heel
programma gewijd aan Venezuela. Op een meer dan belachelijke manier
heeft deze ‘lolbroek’ alle CIA, NSA leugens en die van de reguliere (massa-) media over Venezuela nog eens overdreven op een rij gezet.
Gelukkig heeft Empire Files van Abby Martin deze anti-Venezolaanse propaganda stap voor stap ontleed en zoals bekend is bij mensen die echt nieuws volgen: de situatie
ziet er heel anders uit dan de meeste mensen denken (wat dan weer
logisch is gezien de algehele anti-Maduro campagne in de hiervoor
aangehaalde media en zoals gebracht door het grootste deel van de westerse
politici, al helemaal door de politici in de VS)……
De schijtlollige John Oliver zou vooral
de intellectuelen bedienen, maar gezien zijn succes in de VS moet de definitie intellectueel drastisch worden bijgesteld (overigens is dat ook in Nederland een dringende noodzaak….).
Zo spreekt Oliver over wanhopige mensen
die dito maatregelen/middelen aanwenden in hun protest….
Echter die wanhopige mensen komen uit het welgestelde deel van de
Venezolaanse bevolking, de arme bevolking die het meest lijdt door de
economische oorlog die de VS voert tegen Venezuela, heeft massaal
gestemd op Maduro!! (ondanks de ellende)
Oliver stelt dat je naar Chavez moet
kijken als je de situatie wilt begrijpen, lullig voor Oliver, maar je moet juist de situatie van vóór Chavez goed
bekijken, neem de kindersterfte, armoede, werkloosheid en
analfabetisme, deze cijfers waren voor Chavez gigantisch hoog, waar het
aantal ouderen dat een pensioen had onder de 400.000 mensen lag….. De genoemde zaken werden uiterst succesvol
aangepakt en voor een groot deel opgelost door Chavez!
RT
America is één van de eerste slachtoffers in de heksenjacht op alternatieve media en nadenkend links….. Hiermee wordt eens te meer aangetoond dat de VS in feite al een politiestaat is….. Na de heksenjachten op ‘communisten’ door de fascist McCarthy in de 50er jaren, tot voor kort algemeen veroordeeld, is de tijd aangebroken voor een nieuwe heksenjacht, ofwel het Mccarthyisme is terug van weggeweest en de reguliere media ondersteunen dit met tromgeroffel…….
De aanval op RT is niet ingegeven door de zogenaamde verspreiding van Russische propaganda, maar heeft alles te maken met RT als platform voor kritiek op de ijskoude, inhumane politiek, zowel in binnen- als buitenland, die door de VS wordt gevoerd…..
In een artikel van Truthdig, dat ik op het blog van Stan Van Houcke vond, stelt journalist en professor Chris Hedges dat de VS niet langer als een democratie kan worden gezien………
Via algoritmes van Google, Facebook en Twitter wordt de gebruiker weggeleid van linkse, progressieve en anti-oorlog websites, waarin zoals gezegd grote kritiek wordt geleverd op de ijskoude inhumane neoliberale en oorlogszuchtige politiek van de VS…….. Zo zag de World Socialist Web Site zag haar internetverkeer op Google dalen met 74%!!! Google heeft op haar YouTube kanaal RT verwijderd uit haar voorkeur zenders en Twitter heeft alle reclames voor RT geblokkeerd…….
Niet vreemd dus dat Hedges stelt dat ‘linkse critici’, na marginalisering door de staat, nu volledig moeten worden genegeerd……. (wat men ‘links’ noemt in de VS, is dat in veel gevallen niet in Europa)
Veel organisaties die eerder nog de persvrijheid verdedigden zoals Human Rights Watch, the Committee to Protect Journalists, ACLU en PEN, laten zich nu gebruiken als lakeien voor het fascistische neoliberalisme. Hierbij dient nog opgemerkt te worden dat het overgrote deel van de reguliere westerse media in handen is van ofwel superrijken dan wel commerciële conglomeraten, die de pest hebben aan alles wat maar kritiek heeft op de huidige neoliberale status quo en wat naar links ruikt (u snapt dat deze twee vaak uit dezelfde hoek komen……
De aanklacht dat mediaorganen als RT Russische propaganda verspreiden is een smerig excuus om de persvrijheid volledig de nek om te draaien…… Immers nog steeds is er geen flinter bewijs voor Russische inmenging in binnenlandse politiek, zowel in de VS als de EU, terwijl men elkaar in de politiek en de reguliere media nakakelt dat dit wel zo is, heeft men keer op keer geen antwoord op de vraag naar bewijzen……
Het is in de EU overigens niet anders, men beschuldigt Rusland van het verspreiden van propaganda, zonder ook maar één voorbeeld te noemen. De reguliere (massa-) media doen hier braaf aan mee, terwijl je voor het brengen van nepnieuws, of ‘fake news’ zo u wilt, juist bergen bewijzen kan vinden in die reguliere media. Men wil simpelweg niet, dat de bevolking deze leugens kan doorprikken met feiten, die lullig genoeg nu juist op de sociale media zijn te vinden……

file under the Foreign
Agents Registration Act (FARA).
The
assault on RT America, on which I host the show “On

has nothing to do with the dissemination of Russian propaganda. It is
driven by RT America’s decision to provide a platform to critics of
American capitalism and imperialism, critics who lambast a system of
government that can no longer be called democratic. And it is
accompanied by the installation of algorithms by Google, Facebook and
Twitter that divert readers away from left-wing, progressive and
anti-war websites, including Truthdig. The World Socialist Web Site
has seen its search traffic from Google fall by 74 percent since
April. Google, in a further blow, this month removed RT from its list
of “preferred” channels on YouTube. Twitter has blocked all
advertising by the channel.
Put
the censorship campaigns together and the message is clear: Left-wing
critics, already marginalized by the state, must be silenced.
It
would seem, given how we are locked out of the corporate media and
public broadcasting, that the assault is overkill. But the ideology
that sustains the corporate state, the “free market”
and neoliberalism has
lost all credibility. The corporate state has no counterargument to
its critics. The nakedness of corporate greed, exploitation and
repression is transparent across the political spectrum. The
ideological fortress erected by corporate power and sustained by its
courtiers in the press and academia has collapsed. All it has left is
a crude censorship.
Complicit
in this censorship is a bankrupt liberal class. The institutions
tasked with defending press freedom—including the ACLU, Human
Rights Watch, the Committee to Protect Journalists and PEN—along
with major news outlets such as The New York Times, have served as
the corporate state’s useful idiots. Only a handful of journalists,
including Truthdig
Editor in Chief Robert Scheer,
grasp and decry the very real danger before us.
The
charge that RT and these left-wing sites disseminate “foreign
propaganda” is the beginning, not the end, of a broad campaign
against press freedom. Once this precedent of state censorship is
normalized, far more tepid and compliant media outlets will be

The
venom of the state toward its critics was displayed in
a report by
the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), “Assessing Russian
Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections,” issued Jan. 6.
In the report, seven pages were specifically directed at RT America,
much of the language focused on the journalist Abby
Martin.
Martin became one of the best-known critics of the corporate state
during the Occupy movement. Her show on RT, “Breaking the Set,”
which had been off the air for nearly two years when the report was
published—a glaring error for an intelligence community awash in
budgets of tens of billions of dollars—was denounced as a
disseminator of “radical discontent.” The report complained that
RT gave airtime to third-party candidate debates. The document
attacked RT hosts for asserting that the two-party system does not
represent the views of at least one-third of the population and is a
sham. It excoriated the network for covering Black Lives Matter,
Occupy Wall Street and fracking.
The
report charged:
RT’s
reports often characterize the United States as a “surveillance
state” and allege widespread infringements of civil liberties,
police brutality, and drone use.
RT
has also focused on criticism of the US economic system, US currency
policy, alleged Wall Street greed, and the US national debt. Some of
RT’s hosts have compared the United States to Imperial Rome and
have predicted that government corruption and “corporate greed”
will lead to US financial collapse.
The
“Alice in Wonderland” quality of the report would be laughable if
it was not so ominous. The United States, in fact, is a surveillance
state. Civil liberties have been eviscerated. Police brutality is
endemic. Our drone wars have made us state terrorists. The economic
structure serves the wealthiest corporations and oligarchs. Wall
Street is run by a criminal class. Our debt is unsustainable,
especially once the dollar is no longer the world’s reserve
currency,
and like all decaying empires we are headed for collapse. The DNI
report clarifies what the ruling elites fear—not fake news but the
truth. And the truth is that the elites have destroyed the country
and are traitors to democracy.
The
DNI report was followed by a congressional hearing on “Extremist
Content and Russian Disinformation Online,” held Oct. 31.
Executives of Facebook, Twitter and Google were grilled about their
roles in distributing fake news and extremist content that in the
words of Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley included “spread[ing]
stories about abuse of black Americans by law enforcement.” The
executives promised to double down on their censorship, and they did
so.
The
ruling elites are desperately trying to shift the focus away from the
cause of the political insurgencies on the left and the right:
extreme social inequality. It is for this reason that critics who
highlight and explore the roots and causes of social inequality must
be discredited or silenced. If social inequality is accepted as the
driving force behind the decay of the American state and the mounting
rage of much of the population, then the structures that profit from
this inequality will come under assault. All the elites have left is
to paint their critics as “agents of a foreign power.”
The
United States increasingly resembles a totalitarian state. Our anemic
democracy is on life support. A reasoned debate about social
inequality or the crimes and misjudgments of empire is becoming
impossible. This presages a frightening future. There will be many
“good” Americans who, when the history of this moment is
recorded, will be responsible. And one day, to their surprise, they
too will be victims.

Anti-Media bracht afgelopen zaterdag een artikel van Geopolitics Alert over de chaos in Venezuela. De schrijver, Jim Carey stelt dat men in de VS maanden aaneen iedereen aan het woord laat, als deze maar spuugt op de regering Maduro……. Als een religieus voorschrift herhalen de reguliere (massa-) media deze verhalen, die echter maar één kant van het verhaal laten horen, een leugenachtig verhaal, of ronduit leugens wel te verstaan……
Economische isolatie van Venezuela door vooral de VS en onder druk van de VS, hebben velen in diepe ellende gestort, echter de oppositieleiders die beweren in dezelfde ellende te leven, zijn voor het overgrote deel welgestelde figuren, die het aan niets ontbreekt. Opvallend overigens, dat de oligarchen nooit hebben hoeven vluchten, ook niet onder Chavez, deze figuren gooien overdag met stenen en begeven zich ‘s nachts in het nachtleven, waar ze horeca gelegenheden bezoeken, waar het grootste deel van de Venezolanen alleen maar van kan dromen……
De VS heeft haar winkelketens, die supermarkten in Venezuela hebben, al een paar jaar geleden opgedragen de winkels niet langer te bevoorraden, waarmee voor de gewone burgers de ellende begon. Dit is overigens maar één van de maatregelen uit de smerige VS koker…… Vergeleken met Oekraïne en Syrië is er één groot verschil, de VS doet zelfs geen moeite haar steun aan ‘de gematigde oppositie’ (uiterst gewelddadig) te verbergen……
Vanaf 2009 zou de VS 49 miljoen euro in de oppositie van Venezuela hebben gestoken, reken maar dat dit bedrag in de praktijk een stuk hoger ligt……….
Overigens geldt wat betreft het verslaan van de demonstraties en rellen hetzelfde voor de reguliere (massa-) media in de EU landen en dus ook in ons land. Maduro is de kwaaie pier en de oppositie is geweldloos en zo heilig als Maria……. Terwijl het grootste geweld wordt gebruikt door deze oppositie……..

Why
the Venezuelan Government Is Right to Resist the Venezuelan
Opposition
(GPA) — The
US corporate media has spent months championing the cause of everyone
they know in Venezuela, even the slightest of publicly known figures,
as long as they are willing to go on record and slander the
government of Nicolas Maduro. These quotes are religiously
parroted by every major US media outlet that only wants readers,
viewers and listeners to hear one side of the ongoing fight in
Venezuela.
This
article is meant to help clear up a lot of the questions that are
left unanswered by US media, and to do that, we have to dissect a few
key aspects of the current situation. In order to understand the
Venezuelan opposition better, we should look closely at three key
pieces of this puzzle:
Who
the opposition is and the methods they use.
US
backing of the opposition and what happens in other countries where
US backed opposition is allowed to operate.
And
finally, what exactly the alleged “brutal crackdowns” by Maduro
have actually entailed.
The
Venezuelan Opposition: Peaceful Resistance or the ‘Moderate Rebels’
of Caracas?
If
your primary source for news on the crisis in Venezuela is the US
corporate media, it’s likely you have a certain image that comes to
mind when you hear about the Venezuelan opposition. If you believe
outlets like CNN or The New York Times it’s likely you conjure up
an image of the opposition as a faceless mass of hungry and poor
people risking it all to stand against tyranny in a massive fight for
some subjective concepts like “freedom.”
Now
this idea of brave everyday people protesting on the ground level
probably has some truth behind it, but like most “uprisings” of
this nature, the civilians in the street aren’t the ones
responsible for the planning and logistics behind the scenes. The
truth however, is that the forces that are actually behind this
AstroTurf movement* are much more sinister than the average
protester and promote methods that are well beyond anything that
would be considered ‘peaceful and democratic’ opposition.
The
opposition leaders may claim they share in the suffering endured by
regular Venezuelans, and feel the same pain as those hurt the most by
the economic isolation of the country but this is hardly
the reality of their lives.
In truth, many of the people who are seen as the leaders of the
anti-Maduro movement (and who provide organizers essential financial
support) live lives of extreme comfort and luxury while their pawns
go hungry.
Many
of the opposition leaders and financiers actually come from the
wealthiest strata of Venezuelan society. While almost everyone is
aware that the main driver of the Venezuelan economy is the
nationalized oil industry, many people overlook or are unaware of the
fact that most other sectors of the Venezuelan economy are still in
the hands of private businesses.
Despite
what many people may assume, both Chavez and Maduro had no problem
with this arrangement. The most obvious example of this acceptance is
the fact that even people like the pre-Chavez corrupt former oil
tycoons still remain in Caracas with their stockpiles of ill-gotten
wealth. These are the people who, in their own words, admit that “by
day we throw stones,” and by night enjoy the exclusive night life
that regular Venezuelans couldn’t even dream of. These oligarchs
and crooks have opposed the government since Hugo Chavez won his
first election and began distributing the nation’s wealth to the
most poor Venezuelans as well as subsidizing and placing price
controls on consumer goods.
And
throwing stones isn’t all the opposition does.
Contrary
to the rosy image of the opposition painted by US media the truth is
that violence is one of their primary tools. The opposition has done
everything from hiring poor local teens and providing them crude
weapons like molotov cocktails and explosives, calling on
international banks to cut
off capital and
further harm average Venezuelans to encouraging a military coup
against the elected government. We know this is true, in part, thanks
to independent US journalists who have been brave enough to
expose the truth, such as Abby
Martin,
who opposition protesters promptly threatened to hang.
Now,
you may be asking yourself, how does the opposition have the
nerve to claim legitimacy and moral superiority while using such
despicable methods? The answer to this question should be obvious
based on earlier statements about US media’s representation of the
opposition. The opposition’s claim of legitimacy is supported by
the same people who support violent uprisings from Ukraine to Syria,
the US government.
The
Open Secret of US Subversion in Venezuela
Much
like the recent history of Ukraine or Syria, the opposition in
Venezuela persists thanks to political and financial support from
Washington. Unlike Ukraine and Syria however, the US doesn’t even
attempt to hide their connections to the oligarchs opposing Maduro.
The
US shoves this support into the spotlight as an obvious insult to
Maduro with the traditional arrogance that is expected when the US
exercises what they consider to be their right to interfere in
Latin America. There is such an absence of shame in the case of
Venezuela that the Trump regime has no problem broadcasting events
like when Trump met
with the wife of
opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, who himself has taken calls from
prominent US figures like Vice-President Mike Pence.
Opposition
leaders don’t just enjoy the political lip service that the US
gives to anyone who opposes leaders Washington hates. As mentioned
above, one major factor that allows the opposition to carry on this
way is the millions of dollars sent from the US over the past few
years.
Money
for the Venezuelan opposition is a crucial piece of Washington’s
long-game strategy to topple the Bolivarian government. This cash has
been flowing to Caracas since at least 2009, adding up to at least
$49 million to date. Congress’ stated purpose behind this
“aid” for Venezuela is the same as it is for any country hostile
to the US: “promoting democracy, civil society, independent media,
and democratic political parties.”
In
the 2011 budget, $1 million was specifically designated for
“political competition,” showing that similar to US strategies in
places like the Middle East, Washington was supporting a mediocre and
artificial opposition and waiting for an opportunity to unleash their
manufactured leaders. In Venezuela this chance finally presented
itself when the price of oil drastically dropped, in part due to
market manipulation by the US.
When
you lay out all the above factors, it should be obvious why Nicolas
Maduro is so committed to fending off his opponents’ attacks. If
you look at other countries where the US has used tactics like those
employed in Venezuela, Maduro is relatively lucky that it took this
long for the opposition to become violent.
Syria,
Ukraine and the End Result of US Failures
Two
countries where these US policies failed due to either the unexpected
resilience of the state (Syria), or the failure to predict organic
resistance to intervention (Ukraine), most likely serve as examples
of what’s at stake to Maduro.
Syria
is a case study in what happens when a “revolution” backed by the
US ends, in what is essentially, a failure. Just like Venezuela, the
US was so ecstatic that they finally saw an opportunity to topple
President Bashar Al Assad that Washington was practically falling all
over themselves to find groups to arm and fund.
This
ambition for Syria of course ended with the US placing their trust in
a variety of Sunni extremists who – predictably – had no
intention of taking orders from the CIA or Pentagon. Washington even
allowed their future foes in the Islamic State to operate freely with
the hope they would get to Damascus. Venezuela’s opposition looks
similar to these groups just in a different context. In fact, the
Venezuelan opposition even held
a fake referendum similar
to ridiculous votes organized by the US’s precious Kurds.
Ukraine
should also serve as an example; not just to Maduro but to the US and
the opposition as well. If the US has their way in Venezuela and
basically forces an unpopular oligarch into power they should expect
resistance from the millions of people who benefited
from and still support the
current government. They should also prepare for new dissenters once
the new government is installed and actually lays out their
presumably neoliberal policies, which aren’t popular anywhere in
Central of South America.
These
reasons show why the only option available to Maduro is to resist. At
the government level Maduro has worked completely within the confines
of the law, while still enjoying massive support as evidenced by
Venezuela’s voters support for the new Constituent Assembly in a
country known for it’s election integrity. As far as what is
happening at the street level, we must make sure we take the
opposition’s actions into account and understand the damage they
could eventually do.

Zoals gewoonlijk zijn de westerse ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken, zoals PvdA doedelzak Koenders, weer doodstil over deze grove opmerking, uh beter: openlijke bedreiging met oorlog……. Met andere woorden: men vindt het wel best als er alweer door toedoen van de VS duizenden, of zelfs tienduizenden doden vallen…. De NAVO schijnt intussen al aanwezig te zijn in Columbia, een buurland van Venezuela, dus…………
Ontving vorige week een Anti-Media bericht over het onnoemelijke leed dat Filipijnen ondervinden als ze om de armoede van hun familie te verlichten in het buitenland gaan werken.
Niet alleen belanden vrouwen her en der in de seksindustrie, waar ze als slaven worden behandeld, maar ook de arbeidskrachten wacht veelal eenzelfde behandeling: lange werkdagen en opvang in wat je het best een gevangenis kan noemen, uiteraard tegen een minimale betaling, althans als die al volgt….. Maar liefst 21 miljoen van deze werkers leven in wat niet anders dan dwangarbeid kan worden genoemd………

epidemic, Abby Martin recalls the history of the colonization of the
Philippines and how it has led to a dramatic rise in human
trafficking of Philippine workers.
She
interviews the executive director of Damayan, the 8,000 member strong
New York City based organization created and led by Filipino women
domestic workers that provides legal assistance to migrant workers
and human trafficking victims, as well as other victims of human
trafficking who have experienced the dark side of migrant employment.

The
Philippines has suffered the consequences of occupation and
colonization for hundreds of years with the effects still being seen
today in the form of poverty, job shortages and a human trafficking
epidemic. A shocking 10% of the Philippine population must leave the
country in order to seek employment in hopes of sending money back to
their families. An estimated 6,000 people, mostly women, leave the
Philippines daily to seek work.
Human
trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry that entraps millions
of people across the globe. The majority of victims are abused–
living and working in shockingly inhumane conditions. Particularly
horrifying is the fact that, in the Philippines, humans have become
the number one export.
Most
of these migrant workers leave the Philippines for the United States,
the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Japan where they work in
low-wage jobs. In fact, 21 million people are working in forced labor
situations worldwide- many of them right under the noses of the
average citizen of these countries.
There
are currently 2 million migrant domestic workers working in the
United States. According to the recent report The Human Trafficking
of Domestic Workers in The United States, over 80% of these workers
have experienced their pay being withheld or having been paid under
minimum wage, 81% live in abusive conditions and 73% work excessive
overtime.
Through
this process, many of these migrant workers have become victims of
human trafficking and have found themselves stuck in a seemingly
endless cycle of abuse and neglect. But what has led to this
disturbing trend? Why do so many Filipinos flee their home country
for work and subject themselves to such harsh and inhumane
conditions?
The
Philippines was first claimed by the Spanish in 1525. The indigenous
Filipino people engaged in over 300 armed revolts over the next three
hundred years, eventually securing their independence after a two
year long war of independence. At the time, Spain was also engaged in
the Spanish-American war. Upon losing that war, Spain negotiated the
sale of the Philippines to the United States, behind the backs of the
Filipino people, for a total sum of $20 million in the Treaty of
Paris.
This
began a many decade-long hostile relationship between the Filipino
people and their new occupiers from the United States. With such a
volatile relationship, conflicts occurred frequently resulting in the
deaths of numerous Filipinos. In one such conflict, the Moro Crater
Massacre, only six out of 1,000 Filipinos survived. Shockingly, in
the first 15 years of colonization, more Filipinos were killed by the
U.S. than during the entire three hundred years of Spanish
occupation.
As
the violence decreased, the occupation took on a new form– economic
destruction and experiments in neocolonialism. There quickly became a
dependence on U.S. patronage for survival of the now fragile
Philippine economy and the U.S. began focusing it’s efforts and
attention on the elite of the Filipino people– training and
educating them to be vehicles of U.S. colonization.
This
led to the granting of Philippine independence in 1946 but that
independence was only in name. With the puppets of neocolonialism now
in charge of the country, the U.S. continued to have a direct line of
control, only now it was slightly obscured. Also in 1946, the United
States Congress passed the Rescission Act, stripping Filipinos who
fought in defense of the U.S. against the Japanese during World War
II of the benefits they were promised for doing so, yet another
damaging blow to the Philippine people.
“Our
country was ruined primarily by the U.S.” –Linda Oalican
Tensions
between the Filipino people and the U.S. backed ruling class have
continued to this day, with the Philippine economy continuing to
suffer and a successful government propaganda campaign encouraging
workers to seek employment elsewhere via the Philippine Labor
Migration Policy continuing to grow. In this episode, Abby Martin
details the history of the colonization of the Philippines, starting
with the Spanish in 1525 and ending with the present day situation,
leading to an exodus of able-bodied workers from the Philippines to
all corners of the globe– often ripping families apart and damaging
relationships for years to come.
