Oorlogszuchtige TV dominees……..

Dagelijks worden miljoenen christenen
in de VS gehersenspoeld door TV dominees met een uitgesproken mening
over de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël en de vaststelling dat Iran moet worden
vernietigd…. Deze ‘christenen’ keerden zich zelfs tegen de nucleaire deal met Iran………

Het publiek dat deze misdadige dominees bereiken, vertegenwoordigt een groot deel van de kiezers in de
VS….. ‘Misdadigers’ daar dit geteisem voor het overgrote deel
multimiljonair is en vooral goed voor zichzelf zorgt…….

Waarom worden dit soort figuren amper
of niet aangepakt en krijgen ze zelfs belastingvoordelen? Simpel,
daar ze o.a. het keiharde buitenlandbeleid van de VS verdedigen en
uitdragen, beter gezegd propaganderen…… Ofwel deze predikers zijn
oorlogshitsers, die lullig genoeg vele miljoenen burgers hersenspoelen met hun religieuze gif………….. Bovendien zaaien ze met deze hersenspoeling angst en haat tegen alles wat links of islamitisch is en/of zich tegen Israël keert, waar de TV dominees Israël steunen in alles wat deze moorddadige fascistische apartheidsstaat flikt en uitdraagt………

Over onrechtmatige beïnvloeding van verkiezingen gesproken: vergeleken met de leugens over deze beïnvloeding door de  Russen, zelfs als deze waar zouden zijn (wat meer dan eens bewezen niet zo is..), is de invloed van de TV dominees gigantisch veel groter….. Sterker nog: daar kunnen de gevolgen van die leugens, (‘invloed uitoefenen op VS kiezers’ door Rusland) niet eens in de schaduw staan bij de directe beïnvloeding van de verkiezingen, door deze zogenaamde christelijke dominees……. (dominees die zich niet eens houden aan wat hun here jezus hen in de bijbel heeft voorgeschreven………)

Gezien het voorgaande, kan je de TV dominees medeverantwoordelijk houden voor de vele massamoorden door de VS gepleegd!! (sinds het einde van WOII heeft de VS meer dan 22 miljoen mensen vermoord…..)……… Het lullige bij dit alles is, dat de administraties van de opvolgende presidenten in de VS maar al te graag de ‘christelijke’ kaart spelen……..

algehele hysterie over ‘fake news’ (of: ‘nepnieuws’) is compleet en al dik meer dan een jaar gaande, waarbij de
sociale media werden aangewezen als de verspreiders, terwijl de echte
makers en verspreiders van nepnieuws juist de reguliere media zijn, zie de berichtgeving voorafgaand aan
de illegale oorlogen tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië, plus de
berichtgeving over Oekraïne (en ga nog maar een tijd door…….)

Nu
is er nieuws opgedoken over de VS overheid (en het leger) die al
actief negatief nieuws over de overheid en bijvoorbeeld het leger te
lijf gaan met een fiks aantal verzonnen personen, die meerdere
identiteiten hebben op het internet, personages die het echte nieuws
onderuit moeten halen. Het leger van de VS heeft al een klein
legertje aan personen samengesteld om hun werk te doen. Overigens heeft Israël al eerder aangekondigd kritiek en negatief nieuws op/over deze fascistische apartheidsstaat aan te zullen vallen met een ‘snelle reactiemacht…..’* 

Overigens dient opgemerkt te worden dat de VS en Israël nog iets verder gaan dan alleen kritiek aan te vallen, daar ze actief nepnieuws zullen verspreiden die bijvoorbeeld de uitgeoefende staatsterreur (in binnen en buitenland) moeten rechtvaardigen…… 

Topmilitairen van de VS zien in deze vorm van volksverlakkerij een belangrijk wapen om de
bevolking te beïnvloeden, bijvoorbeeld (weer) met het schoonpraten van de
grootschalige terreur die dit leger op meerdere plaatsen in de wereld
uitoefent…….

openly admitted, governments and militaries around the world employ
armies of keyboard warriors to spread propaganda and disrupt their
online opposition. Their goal? To shape public discourse around
global events in a way favourable to their standing military and
geopolitical objectives. Their method? The weaponization of social
media.

It
didn’t take long from the birth of the world wide web for the
public to start using this new medium to transmit, collect and
analyze information in ways never before imagined. The first message
boards and clunky “Web 1.0” websites soon gave way to “the
blogosphere.” The arrival of social media was the next step in this
evolution, allowing for the formation of communities of interest to
share information in real time about events happening anywhere on the
globe.

But
as quickly as communities began to form around these new platforms,
governments and militaries were even quicker in recognizing the
potential to use this new medium to more effectively spread their own
propaganda.

Their
goal? To shape public discourse around global events in a way
favourable to their standing military and geopolitical objectives.

Their
method? The Weaponization of Social Media.

Facebook.
Twitter. YouTube. Snapchat. Instagram. Reddit. “Social media” as
we know it today barely existed fifteen years ago. Although it
provides new ways to interact with people and information from all
across the planet virtually instantaneously and virtually for free,
we are only now beginning to understand the depths of the problems
associated with these new platforms. More and more of the original
developers of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter admit
they no
longer use social media themselves
and actively keep it away from their children, and now they are
finally admitting the reason why: social media was designed
specifically to take advantage of your psychological weaknesses and
keep you addicted to your screen.

SEAN
PARKER:
If the thought process that went into building these
applications—Facebook being the first of them to really understand
it—that thought process was all about “How do we consume as much
of your time and conscious attention as possible?” And that means
that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in
a while because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or
whatever, and that’s gonna get you to contribute more content and
that’s gonna get you more likes and comments. So it’s a social
validation feedback loop. I mean it’s exactly the kind of thing
that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you’re
exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology. And I think that
we—the inventors/creators, you know, it’s me, it’s Mark, it’s
Kevin Systrom at Instagram, it’s all of these people—understood
this consciously and we did it anyway.

It
should be no surprise, then, that in this world of social media
addicts and smartphone zombies, the 24/7 newsfeed is taking up a
greater and greater share of people’s lives. Our thoughts, our
opinions, our knowledge of the world, even our mood are increasingly
being influenced or even determined by what we see being posted,
tweeted or vlogged. And the process by which these media shape our
opinions is being carefully monitored and analyzed, not by the social
media companies themselves, but by the US military.

When the world’s largest social media platform betrays its users,
there’s going to be outrage.

ABC
HOST: The
study to see whether Facebook could influence the emotional state of
its users on that news feed.

CNN
ANCHOR:
It allowed researchers to manipulate almost 700,000 users’ news
feeds. Some saw more positive news about their friends, others saw
more negative.

CNN
GUEST:
Well I’m not surprised. I mean we’re all kind of lab rat than the
big Facebook experiment.

PORTNAYA: But
it wasn’t only Facebook’s experiment. It turns out the
psychological study was connected to the US government’s research
on social unrest.

This is really kind of creepy.

PORTNAYA:
And it gets worse. What you may not know is that the US Department of
Defense has reportedly spent roughly $20 million conducting studies
aimed at learning how to manipulate online behavior in order to
influence opinion. The initiative was launched in 2011 by the
Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, otherwise
known as DARPA. The program is best described as the US media’s
effort to become better at detecting and conducting propaganda
campaigns via social media. Translation: When anti-government
messages gain ground virally, Washington wants to find a way to
spread counter opinion.

The
DARPA document that details the Pentagon’s plans for influencing
opinions in the social media space is called “Social
Media in Strategic Communication.”
DARPA’s goal, according to their
own website,
is “to develop tools to help identify misinformation or deception
campaigns and counter them with truthful information.”

Exactly
what tools were developed for this purpose and how they are currently
being deployed is unclear. 

But Rand Walzman, the program’s creator,
admitted last year that the project lasted four years, cost $50
million and led to the publication of over 200 papers. The papers,
including “Incorporating
Human Cognitive Biases in a Probabilistic Model of Retweeting,”
“Structural
Properties of Ego Networks,”
and “Sentiment
Prediction using Collaborative Filtering,”
make the thrust of the program perfectly clear. Social media users
are lab rats being carefully scrutinized by government-supported
researchers, their tweets and Facebook posts and Instagram pictures
being analyzed to determine how information spreads online, and, by
implication, how the government and the military can use these social
media networks to make their own propaganda “go viral.”

As
worrying as this research is, it pales in comparison to the knowledge
that governments, militaries and political lobby groups are already
employing squadrons of foot soldiers to wage information warfare in
the social media battlespace.

AL-JAZEERA
ANCHOR:
The Pentagon’s got a new plan to counter anti-American messages in
cyberspace. It involves buying software that will enable the American
military to create and control fake online personas—fake people,
essentially—who will appear to have originated from all over the
world. The plan is being undertaken by CENTCOM (US Central Command),
and the objective of the online persona management service is to
combat enemy propaganda by influencing foreign social media websites.
CENTCOM has hired a software development company called “Ntrepid,”
and, according to the contract, the California-based company will
initially provide 50 user licenses, each of which would be capable of
controlling up to 10 fake personas. US law forbids the use of this
type of technology, called “sockpuppets,” against Americans, so
all the personas will reportedly be communicating in languages like
Arabic, Persian and Urdu.

So is it okay to have the government monitor social media
conversations and then to wade in and correct some of those
conversations? With more on this, let’s go to technology expert
Carmi Levy. He’s on the line from Montreal. Carmi, do you think the
government’s monitoring what you and I are saying right now? Is
this whole thing getting out of line, or what?

LEVY: It opens up a bit of a question. I’d like to call it a
Pandora’s box about, you know, what exactly is the government’s
aim here, and what do they hope to accomplish with what they find
out? And as they accumulate this information online—this data on
us—where does that data go? And so I think as much as we should
applaud the government for getting into this area, the optics of it
are potentially very Big Brother-ish. And the government really does
need to be a little bit more concrete on what its intentions are and
how it intends to achieve them.

Confirms Government(s) employing Internet Trolls, Shills & PR
Agents to ‘correct misinformation’

New evidence that government-owned computers at the Army Corps of
Engineers office here in New Orleans are being used to verbally
attack critics of the Corps comes in an affidavit from the former
editor-in-chief of nola.com. Jon Donley, who was laid off this past
February, tells us via satellite from Texas, in late 2006 he started
noticing people presenting themselves as ordinary citizens defending
the Corps very energetically.

What stuck out, though, was the wording of the comments was in many
ways mirroring news releases from the Corps of Engineers.

coming from users at the internet provider address of the Army Corps
of Engineers offices here in New Orleans. She blamed the Corps for a

In the process of trying to obscure the facts of the New Orleans
floodings, one of their tactics was just verbal abuse.

These
operations are only the visible and publicly-admitted front of a vast
array of military and intelligence programs that are attempting to
influence online behaviour, spread government propaganda, and disrupt
online communities that arise in opposition to their agenda.

That
such programs exist is not a matter of conjecture; it is mundane,
established, documented fact.

In
2014, an internal document was leaked from GCHQ, the British
equivalent of the NSA. The document, never intended for public
release, was entitled “The
Art of Deception: Training for a New Generation of Online Covert
Operations”
and bluntly stated that “We want to build Cyber Magicians.”
It then goes on to outline the “magic” techniques that must be
employed in influence and information operations online, including
deception and manipulation techniques like “anchoring,” “priming”
and “branding” propaganda narratives. After presenting a map of
social networking technologies that are targeted by these operations,
the document then instructs the “magicians” how to deceive the
public through “attention management” and behavioural
manipulation.

That
governments would turn to these strategies is hardly a shocking
development. In fact, the use of government shills to propagate
government talking points and disrupt online dissent has been openly
advocated on the record by high-ranking government officials for the
past decade.

In
2008, Cass Sunstein, a law professor who would go on to become
Obama’s information “czar,” co-authored a paper entitled
“Conspiracy
Theories,”
in which he wrote that the “best response” to online “conspiracy
theories” is what he calls “cognitive infiltration” of groups
spreading these ideas.

“Government
agents (and their allies) might enter chat rooms, online social
networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine
percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual
premises, causal logic or implications for political action. In one
variant, government agents would openly proclaim, or at least make no
effort to conceal, their institutional affiliations. […] In another
variant, government officials would participate anonymously or even
with false identities.”

It
is perhaps particularly ironic that the idea that government agents
are actually and admittedly spreading propaganda online under false
identities is, to the less-informed members of the population, itself
a “conspiracy theory” rather than an established conspiracy fact.

Unsurprisingly,
when confronted about his proposal, Sunstein pretended to not
remember having written it and then pointedly refused to answer any
questions about it.

My name is Bill de Burgh from Brooklyn College, and I know you’ve
written many articles. But I think the most telling one about you is
the 2008 one called “Conspiracy Theories,” where you openly
advocated government agents infiltrate activist groups of 9/11 Truth
and also stifle dissent online. I was wondering why do you think it’s
the government’s job, or why do you think the government should go
after family members who have questions and 9/11 responders who are
lied to about the air, survivors whose testimony conflicts, and also
government whistleblowers that were gagged because they released
information that contradicts the official story.

CASS
SUNSTEIN:
I think it was Ricky who said I’d written hundreds of articles and
I remember some and not others. That one I don’t remember very
well. I hope I didn’t say that.
But whatever was said in that article, my role in government is to
oversee federal rule-making in a way that is wholly disconnected from
the vast majority of my academic writing, including that.

I just want to know is it safe to say that you retract saying that
conspiracy theories should be banned or taxed for having an opinion
online. Is it safe to say that?

SUNSTEIN:
I don’t remember the article very well. So I hope I didn’t say
either those things.

But you did and it’s written. Do you retract them?

SUNSTEIN:
I’m focused on my job.

Information Czar Cass Sunstein Confronted on Cognitive Infiltration
of Conspiracy Groups

Now,
a decade on from Sunstein’s proposal, we know that military psyops
agents, political lobbyists, corporate shills and government
propagandists are spending vast sums of money and employing entire
armies of keyboard warriors, leaving comments and shaping
conversations to change the public’s opinions, influence their
behaviour, and even alter their mood. And they are helped along in
this quest by the very same technology that allows the public to
connect on a scale never before possible.

Technology
is always a double-edged sword, and sometimes it can be dangerous to
wield that sword at all. There are ways to identify and neutralize
the threat of online trolls and shills, but the phenomenon is not
likely to go away any time soon.

Each
of us must find our own answer to the question of how best to
incorporate these technologies into our life. But the next time you
find yourself caught up in an argument with an online persona that
may or may not be a genuine human being, it might be better to ask
yourself if your efforts are better spent engaging in the argument or
just turning off the computer.

Een
ongelofelijk staaltje arrogantie: de fascistische regering van Israël geeft toe een in aanbouw zijnde kerncentrale in Syrië te
hebben gebombardeerd in 2007…… Ofwel: Israël heeft er lak aan als
terreurstaat bekend te staan, een andere conclusie is niet te
trekken, al zal je dit nooit uit de vuilbekken van de Israëlische top
horen……. Generaal Eisenkot maakte e.e.a. bekend en voegde daar
aan toe dat Israël de bouw van dergelijke constructies ook in de toekomst niet zal
toestaan….. Aangezien Iran van deze ‘constructies’ heeft, valt het ergste te vrezen voor Iran, zeker gezien de oorlogstaal die Israël continu gebruikt t.a.v. dit land……..

Iedereen
wist trouwens al dat Israël deze centrale bombardeerde, alleen gaf Israël dit
nooit toe….. Een zoveelste daad van grootschalige terreur, begaan
in de onafzienbare rij van terreurdaden begaan door deze
zionistisch-fascistische apartheidsstaat…..

Het
is overigens maar de vraag of Israël echt een kerncentrale
bombardeerde, daar Syrië dit nooit heeft toegegeven en Israël welhaast altijd liegt over de redenen voor het uitoefenen van grootschalige terreur, zoals de laatste paar jaar bij de 100+ bombardementen op Syrische doelen……. 

Lieberman
de psychopathische minister van defensie in Israël nam de gebeurtenis
waar door te stellen, dat de slagkracht van de Israëlische luchtmacht exponentieel is toegenomen sinds 2007, het jaar waarin dit land de Syrische ‘kerncentrale’ bombardeerde…… Met andere woorden: wat we toen ‘presteerden’, kunnen we nu 10 keer beter…..

Een
andere ploert van het terreurkabinet onder de corrupte opperschoft
Netanyahu, Katz voegde daar ten overvloede nog eens aan toe dat Israël nooit een ander land in de buurt van Israël zal toestaan een
kernwapen te ontwikkelen….. Terwijl Israël NB zelf een kernmacht
is, die nooit het verdrag tegen de verspreiding van kernwapens
tekende…… Bovendien als er in de regio één agressief land is, is het Israël wel…..

Nu
vergis je je Azijnpisser, Saoedi-Arabië kan er ook wat van, sterker
nog die gaat nog een slag verder met de genocide die het uitvoert
op de sjiieten in Jemen…… Opvallend dat dit land blijkbaar wel
kerncentrales mag hebben van Israël, daar Saoedi-Arabië er 2 in
aanbouw heeft, 2 van de 16 die het uiteindelijk wil bouwen…..

Israël moet wel heel zeker zijn van de stabiliteit in Saoedi-Arabië en de
toekomstige trouw van het leger aan deze reli-fascistische
dictatuur…… Israël onderhoudt dan ook goede banden met S-A, op
zich al een zaak die de moeite waard is voor jihadstrijders om zich
tegen het bewind in Riyad te keren……..

Nogmaals:
hoe lang laat de wereld terreurstaat Israël begaan met haar
ongebreidelde terreur, voordat men minstens het Internationaal
Strafhof zal opdragen een aanklacht tegen Israël op te
stellen……..

Finally Admits to Bombing Syrian Nuclear Reactor, Warns Iran Could Be
Next

(CD) — Israel
on Wednesday admitted it
bombed a suspected Syrian nuclear facility 11 years ago, and Israeli
officials used the confirmation to boast about their country’s
military might and again threaten Iran.

“The
message from the 2007 attack on the reactor is that Israel will not
tolerate construction that can pose an existential threat,”
military chief Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said in
a statement. “This was the message in 1981 [when Israel bombed a
nuclear plant in Baghdad,], this is the message in 2007, and this is
the future message to our enemies.”

The
overnight operation dubbed
“Outside the Box” took place from Sept. 5-6, 2007, when F16s and
F15s carried out the airstrikes against what the
U.S. and
Israel say was a reactor built with help from North Korea.

Israel—a
nuclear-armed power but not a signatory of the nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)—argues that the facility in Syria’s
Deir ez-Zor region was “in its last stages of construction.”
Syria, which is a party to the treaty, has denied it
was building a reactor.

As
with its United Nations Security Council-condemned strike
on the Iraqi facility, Israel argued that purpose of the Syrian
facility was to produce a bomb.

According
to James
Jeffrey, George W. Bush’s deputy national security adviser, the
U.S. president backed the attack at the time.

“(He)
made it clear that we were very happy that events had eliminated this
threat and that if there were any threats to Israel that would emerge
from this situation, the United States would stand with Israel,
period,” Jeffrey said Wednesday.

Defense
Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Wednesday used the admission to
threaten the entire region.

“The
motivation of our enemies increased in recent years, but so did the
strength of the IDF. Air Force and intelligence capabilities
intensified and expanded [vastly] from the capabilities we had in
2007,” Liberman said. “Everyone in the Middle East would do well
to internalize this equation.”

Another
minister, Israel Katz, also tweeted out
a not-so-veiled threat: “The courageous decision of the Israeli
government almost 11 years ago to destroy the nuclear reactor in

Ongelofelijk
maar waar: nadat bij een eerdere zitting de journalisten door een
militaire rechter de zaal uit werden gestuurd, heeft een andere hof
besloten dat het proces tegen Ahed al Tamimi achter gesloten deuren moet worden gehouden……. Ahed zit nu al 3 maanden vast
voor het slaan van een Israëlische militair en ‘het gooien met
stenen’ (alsof het om bommen gaat….)……..

Dit
zou in het belang van Ahed zijn, aldus o.a. de rechter van die rechtbank…… ha! ha! ha! ha! De laffe
fascistische zionistische honden willen geen pers bij dit
schertsproces, zoveel is wel duidelijk! (met excuus aan de viervoeters voor de vergelijking)

Godbetert
een kolonel van de fascistische bezettingsmacht had het gore lef te
stellen dat een proces achter gesloten deuren Ahed een betere kans op
verdediging zou geven……. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Alsof Ahed ook maar 1% kans
op een eerlijk proces zou hebben en dat nogmaals, in een militaire
rechtbank! (waar slaat ‘t op??)

Het
psychopathische leger van Israël blijft de familie al-Tamimi lastig
vallen en zelfs de neef van Ahed, die in zijn gezicht werd geschoten, is gearresteerd door de Israëlische psychopaten…. Tijdens diens gevangenschap probeerde Israël zijn detentie te misbruiken om aan te tonen dat Muhammad een ongeluk had met
zijn fiets………. ‘Jammer genoeg’ voor de fascistische Israëlische overheid, maar er waren al röntgenfoto’s gemaakt, waarop duidelijk de
rubberkogel is te zien, waarmee Muhammad, een 15 jarige jongen, in
zijn gezicht werd geschoten (van dichtbij, het laffe geteisem!!)

Intussen
hebben 1,7 miljoen mensen (wereldwijd) de petitie getekend voor de
vrijlating van Ahed*, een meisje dat NB in de gevangenis 17 jaar is
geworden…….

Terwijl ik dit bericht gisteren schreef, heeft de werkelijkheid deze al ingehaald: vanmorgen meldde codepink.org dat Ahed een akkoord heeft gesloten met de Israëlische militaire rechtbank voor een gevangenisstraf die 8 maanden zou moeten duren……. Terecht meldt CODEPINK dat Ahed geen dag zou moeten zitten, maar daar Ahed anders een veel langere gevangenisstraf zou wachten heeft ze blijkbaar getekend (onrechtmatig onder druk zetten van een minderjarige!!)…. Onterecht meldt CODEPINK dat het hier om een overwinning gaat voor Ahed…… 

Als je al wilt spreken over een overwinning, zou het moeten gaan om een pyrrusoverwinning, immers 8 maanden cel voor het slaan van een militair is te zot voor woorden!! NB een militair die internationaal rechtelijk gezien veroordeeld zou moeten worden vanwege het onrechtmatig binnendringen van het huis bewoond door een Palestijns gezin (het binnendringen van het huis behorend tot het gezin al-Tamimi)

Wanneer
wordt de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël eindelijk voor het
Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) gesleept en veroordeeld voor een intussen
ontelbaar aantal oorlogsmisdaden en het plegen van ronduit misdaden tegen de

Court Claims Ahed Tamimi’s Closed Trial Is for Her Own Good

(MEMO) — An
Israeli court has refused to hold a public trial for Palestinian teen
Ahed Tamimi claiming it is for her own benefit, reports Haaretz.

Last
week the military prosecution told the court that they had no
objection to a public court proceedings but were later informed that
the case would be held behind closed doors as per a decision made by
a lower court that deemed it necessary for “the minor’s benefit”.
All Tamimi’s prior detention hearings have been public until last
month when the military judge ordered
all journalists to
leave the court room.

Tamimi,
17, who is charged with stone-throwing and attacking soldiers, was
arrested in December after a video
showing her slapping Israeli
soldiers and telling them to leave her property went viral. Israeli
soldiers had invaded her home and shot her cousin in the head minutes
before.

In
explaining the appeal court’s decision, Colonel Netanel
Benishu claimed that the decision was motivated by the desire to
give the Tamimis “a real chance to make their arguments in an
intimate framework of proceedings that aren’t open to the general
public [which] is a basic component of conducting fair and just
proceedings.”

Tamimi’s
trial has been delayed some four times, during which she has been
kept in police custody. Her case has gained international support,
with international NGOs, British
politiciansand
the UN calling
for her release. An online petition protesting her imprisonment
has been signed by more than 1.7
million people.

Israeli
police have continued to harass the Tamimis since Ahed’s detention
and have also arrested 10
members of her family,
including her cousin Mohammed Tamimi, who was initially shot. During
his detention, Israeli authorities also attempted to prove that
Mohammed, who lost a third of his skull due to the impact of the
bullet, actually sustained his injury from falling off his bike.

The
Tamimi family responded to the allegations by sharing official
medical records from the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah and pictures
of Muhammad’s x-ray, which clearly show the presence of a
rubber bullet in his skull.

“There
is no limit to how low Israel is willing to sink in its attempt to
discredit the Tamimis’ just struggle for liberation against Israeli
colonialism,” the family said in a statement.

The Tamimi
family of Nabi Saleh is
well known internationally for their activism against the Israeli
occupation.

De plaatsvervangend stafchef voor het Israëlische leger, Aviv Kochavi, stelde op een
promotie ceremonie voor Israëlische officieren, dat Israël zich voorbereidt op een zes fronten oorlog…. (en zoals je begrijpt: een illegale oorlog….)

Aviv
noemde de fronten niet, maar bekend is dat Israël haar troepen
samentrekt aan de grens met Libanon, Syrië en de Gazastrook……
Daar is het Israëlische leger dan ook ‘bezig met grootschalige
militaire oefeningen’, waar ook een groot aantal VS militairen aan deelnemen…… Vergeet daarnaast niet de woorden van
Palestijnenslachter Netanyahu (de zwaar corrupte en fascistische Israëlische premier), anderen uit de top vaan de Israëlische regering en uit de top van het leger,
waarin men in feite al heeft aangegeven Iran te zullen aanvallen
vanwege ‘het brengen van terreur’ in het Midden-Oosten……..

Dit
alles terwijl Israël de psychopathische moordenaars, verkrachters en
martelbeulen van terreurgroepen in Syrië steunt (ons kent ons..), dit middels het oplappen
van gewonde strijders (psychopaten), zodat ze het reguliere
Syrische leger weer kunnen bestrijden en doorgaan met hun terreur
tegen de bevolking van Syrië……. Voorts bombardeert Israël illegaal het Syrische  leger op aanvraag van deze terreurgroepen (IS en Al Qaida Syrië), dit naast de andere vele illegale bombardementen die Israël in Syrië uitvoert……. Wie is de

Nogmaals: dit alles terwijl
Israël als het haar zo uitkomt de Gazastrook bombardeert, de Gazastrook: de

Army Preparing for War on Six Fronts: Military Official

(MEMO) — A
senior Israeli military official said on Wednesday that the Israeli
army is preparing for
war on five fronts, in addition to another with Iran.

Deputy
Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Aviv Kochavi, said: “Iran is
fueling many terrorist activities in the Middle East”, adding that
the Israeli army continues to grow and prepare for any future
military confrontation.

Speaking
at the graduation ceremony of navy officers, Kochavi said the army
anticipates war on five fronts but he did not name them.

Meanwhile,
Commander of the Israeli navy, General Eli Sharvit, said the navy has
the ability to work in absolute secrecy, above and below the water
which enables it to expand the scope of operations quickly.

The
Israeli army has recently intensified military training on the
northern border with Lebanon and Syria and southern border with the
occupied Gaza Strip.

Israel
is also holding joint
military exercises with
American troops on its ground this week. About 2,500 US soldiers and
2,000 Israelis are taking part in the drills, which will last for one
week, the Sama news
agency said.

Hier een artikel dat op de hoop concepten bleef liggen, een artikel van Information Clearing House gepubliceerd op 23 februari jl.

In dit artikel een duidelijke uitleg over wat er nu gaande is in het door de VN als soeverein erkende Syrische bewind en de door haar ingeroepen hulp van Rusland, Iran en andere ondersteunende strijdgroepen.

Een artikel over de enorme anti-Syrische, anti-Russische en anti-Iraanse propaganda gebracht door de reguliere westerse (massa-) media, propaganda die herhaald wordt door het overgrote deel van de westerse politici……

Neem Turkije dat het Syrische bewind van terrorisme beschuldigde, daar dit bewind volkomen terecht probeerde en probeert de Turken, die illegaal Syrië zijn binnengevallen, uit haar land probeert te verdrijven….. Een illegale inval in een ander land is één van de zwaarste vormen van terreur en een oorlogsmisdaad van formaat! Turkije doet dit daar het stelt dat YPG terreurorganisatie is die een direct gevaar vormt voor de Turkse staat, echter deze groepering heeft tot nu toe niet één aanslag in Turkije gepleegd………..

Toch kan Turkije gewoon haar gang gaan, het westen onthoudt zich van commentaar, laat staan dat het ingrijpt door van Turkije te eisen zich terug te trekken uit Syrië en stemt daarmee in met deze grote oorlogsmisdaad, waarbij intussen een groot aantal mensen zijn vermoord door Turkije… Kijk daar hoor je de verontwaardigde westerse reguliere media niet over, terwijl de leugens in die media over Oost-Ghouta niet meer te tellen zijn (ofwel ‘fake news’ over dit stadsdeel)…….

Dit is nog maar één voorbeeld, lees het volgende artikel ajb en geeft het door, een artikel waarin wordt aangegeven dat de agressie van de VS in Syrië van een vooraf opgezet plan is voorzien. (o.l.v. de VS, zijn o.a. US
Aggression in Syria – an Imperialist Blueprint

Clearing House” –  Syria’s
prolonged conflict and misery going into its eighth year is no
accident. It is by design. American imperialist design.

First
though, we note the increasing reprehensible absurdity in this
conflict.

Turkey,
which invaded Syria nearly a month ago in violation of Syria’s
sovereignty, this week accused Damascus of “terrorism” after the
Syrian government sent forces to defend the northern area near Afrin
under assault from Turkey.

Meanwhile,
US forces, again illegally occupying Syria in violation of
international law, claim to be fighting terrorist militia. Yet more
often than not, the Americans are affording protection to various
terrorist groups. 

Then when Syrian state forces advance to clear the
terror groups, the US claims it is acting in “self-defense” by
massacring whole units of the Syrian army.

Further
absurdity is due to France, which has been bombing Syria illegally
along with the US and Britain, warning Iranian militia, who are
legally present in Syria owing to Damascus’ approval, that they
have to withdraw from the country.

As
if the situation couldn’t get any more bizarre, Israel has carried
out more than 100 air strikes on Syria, claiming that the aggression
are “acts of self-defense”.

The
Syrian government of President Assad is the sovereign authority of
the country, as recognized by UN resolutions. It has the right to
defend its nation and to reclaim areas which have been usurped by
illegally armed groups. Virtually all of these insurgents are
foreign-backed proxies who have been waging a war for regime change
according to the designs of their foreign sponsors.

The
only armed forces legally present in Syria are those of Russia, Iran
and associated militia who have been requested legally by the Syrian
government to assist in defending the state from a foreign-backed
war.

It
is within the sovereign right of the Syrian government to take back
all areas, including the suburb of East Ghouta near the capital
Damascus. The district has been held under siege by foreign-backed
extremists going by the name of Jaysh al Islam who are affiliated
with internationally proscribed terror groups Al Nusra Front and
Islamic State.

The
impetus to liberate East Ghouta has come about because the militants
have been firing mortars at nearby Damascus with deadly results.

Not
only are Western states violating international law by militarily
hampering the Syrian army and its allies in rescuing the country from
foreign insurgents, the Western governments and media are mounting a
propaganda campaign in an attempt to tie the Syrian state forces’
hands behind their backs by distorting their legal duty as
“barbarism”.

Out
of the half million people who have died in the past seven years of
war in Syria, it is estimated that nearly half of that total were
members of the Syrian army.

Added
to the Western calumnies over Syria are claims that Syrian state
forces have been using chemical weapons on civilian populations. The
evidence points in fact to the Western-backed so-called jihadists who
have been stealthily using these weapons for false-flag propaganda
stunts.

To
understand the chaotic conflict in Syria, we must refer to the
decades-old imperial designs that the US and its allies have had
towards the country. The Americans and the British governments going
back to Eisenhower and Churchill in the 1950s wanted to destabilize
and subjugate the Arab republic – a former French colony.

In
1996, a new generation of imperialists in Washington led by Richard
Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser and other neoconservatives
formulated the “Clean Break” strategy. The strategy in
conjunction with Israel sought to destabilize and “roll back”
Syria because of its alliance with Russia, Iran and Hezbollah.

More
widely, the neoconservatives in Washington openly declared their aim
of balkanizing the entire region in order to, in their calculation,
make Israel more secure. Syria and Iraq were top priorities for
US-imposed chaos.

Significantly,
the Clean Break strategy designated Turkey as a key partner to the US
and Israel for implementing this plan.

The
same American neoconservative planners went on to occupy key
positions at the Pentagon and State Department during President
George W Bush administrations. There is every reason to believe their
stratagem of organized chaos – as a way of exerting hegemony over
the oil-rich Middle East – continues to be the guiding, albeit
tacit, policy of the US government under President Trump.

Russia,
Iran and Hezbollah largely helped Syria bring the war to a close at
the end of last year with the widespread routing of foreign-backed
insurgents. However, a subsequent peace process brokered by Russia,
Iran and Turkey has lost momentum. The violence in Syria appears to
re-igniting.

The
increasingly overt military presence of US and Turkish forces, as
well as Israeli incursions, is the clearest factor in the resurgence
of conflict. More than ever, the US and its allies are operating on a
brazen imperial design to dismember Syria and its territorial
integrity.

This
is nothing short of criminal aggression by Washington following a
deliberate plan for regional domination. This imperialist intrigue
should be called out for what is by the United Nations. But rather
than upholding the UN Charter, the body’s senior figures are
joining in the Western chorus of condemning Syria for defending its
national rights.

The
UN is appearing like the ineffectual League of Nations in the 1930s
when it pandered to Nazi and fascist aggression. What the US and its
allies are doing now in Syria is a repeat – fanning the flames of
wider war in the Middle East.

Laws
and sovereignty are being smashed at will and yet the Western media
and UN are blind to the aggression. Indeed, they are turning reality
on its head, by blaming victim-states for the aggression.

The
straightforward bottom line is that the US, Turkey, Israel and other
NATO powers must withdraw from Syria. Respect Syria’s sovereignty
and desist from criminal intrigues for regime change. This is a
minimum of abiding by international law.

If
these protagonists persist in their criminal schemes, the region is
heading for a conflagration sparing no-one.

Gistermorgen in het BBC World Service radionieuws van 10.00 u. (CET), aandacht voor de aanval in het Engelse Salisbury met Sarin op de Russische ex-spion Skripal en diens dochter.

Veel bla bla waarna de nieuwslezer zei, dat het niet anders kan dan dat dit Sarin gas moet wel van een buitenlandse overheid komen en stelde daar meteen bij dat de BBC niet met de vinger wil wijzen, echter het sterke vermoeden bestaat wel dat dit een actie is van Rusland, dus zeg maar van Putin zelf…….. Zal niet lachen, maar jezus!!

Veel van de oligarchen en andere ex-Russen in het buitenland zitten met één of twee benen in de georganiseerde misdaad, wat de kans op een moordaanslag groot maakt….. Als je nu denkt dat Sarin niet te koop is, zoals de BBC beweert, moet ik je echt teleur stellen, m.n. in Oost-Europa is alles te koop, neem landen als Oekraïne, Georgië, Hongarije of Polen…….. Deze landen kunnen dit gif zelf maken, zo niet is er de mogelijkheid om dit gif te kopen van Egypte of Israël, die dit smerige zenuwgif maken en daar grote voorraden van hebben…… Zoals bekend, die landen stellen een minimum aantal vragen en eisen als het om geld verdienen gaat…..

Het gifgas dat in Syrië wordt gebruikt door de terreurgroepen (‘gematigde rebellen’), komt zonder enige twijfel uit de voorraden van Israël (dat goede banden heeft met een paar van die terreurgroepen,waaronder IS en Al Qaida) of Egypte…….

Reken maar dat men in Engeland alles op alles zet om Rusland deze moordpoging in de schoenen te schuiven, niet voor niets zei een regeringswoordvoerder gisteren dat men deze aanval mogelijk als een oorlogsverklaring zal zien……… Zo heeft GB een oorlogsverklaring achter de hand, als barbertje Rusland definitief is gehangen, met onwaarschijnlijk indirect of helemaal geen bewijs, daar heeft de regering van Groot-Brittannië (en de rest van het westen) totaal geen moeite mee, zo blijkt keer op keer….

Het is zelfs mogelijk dat dit een ‘false flag’ operatie is, om Rusland nog verder in de verdediging te drukken……

Ongelofelijk
maar waar: Shell wil samen met ‘het geweldige bedrijf’ Blackstone de
schalie-olie en -gas winning van BHP Billiton in de VS annexeren. ‘Zo
laat Shell zien dat het haar ernst is met duurzaamheid en pogingen de
klimaatverandering te vertragen…..’ De winning van schaliegas en
-olie ‘is immers de schoonste vorm van winning als het om deze
fossiele grondstoffen gaat……’

Het is intussen meer dan duidelijk dat door het fracken voor gas en olie, welhaast onherstelbare schade wordt aangericht aan de ondergrond en dat dit gepaard gaat met enorme vervuiling van zwaar chemisch verontreinigd water, dat in de VS veelal gewoon op het oppervlaktewater mag worden geloosd………

Shell
heeft om het zacht te zeggen ook al geen best verleden als het om
mensenrechten gaat, ‘vandaar ook’ dat dit bedrijf in onderhandelingen

het omstreden Leviathan-gasveld voor de kust van Israël en de
Gazastrook…….

In het
bericht dat hierover werd gepubliceerd op de Beurs.nl (het tweede
artikel onder dit bericht), spreekt de redactie over het
Leviathan-gasveld ‘in Israëlische wateren……’

Daarmee
stelt Shell in feite dat het akkoord gaat met de claim van Israël op
dit gasveld, echter dat is zoals gezegd zeer omstreden en deskundigen
zeggen dat het grootste deel eigenlijk ten goede zou moeten komen aan
de Gazastrook en Libanon (waar Israël Libanon al heeft gedreigd met militaire actie over de claim)…….

Het gaat
hier om een contract van 25 miljard dollar en dat voor 25 jaar, daarin is
ook gaswinning voor de kust van Cyprus meegenomen, als bij het Leviathan-gasveld is hier strijd
om wie de rechten ten goede zou moeten komen, Griekenland of Turkije……

Het gas
moet naar een andere groot mensenrechtenschendend land, waar het gas
wordt verwerkt in een LNG fabriek, voor transport naar o.a.
Europa….. Het land? Egypte!!

Shell is
echt lekker bezig en van dat bedrijf is ‘ons’ koningshuis
grootaandeelhouder……

wil Amerikaanse tak BHP overnemen’

DEN
HAAG (AFN) – Shell wil samen met investeerder Blackstone en bod doen
op de schalie-activiteiten van mijnbouwer BHP Billiton in de
Verenigde Staten. Het olie- en gasbedrijf en de investeerder willen
daar 10 miljard dollar, ruim 8,1 miljard euro, voor neertellen. Dat
meldt Sky News.

Een
bod van Shell en Blackstone zou niet het enige zijn waar BHP op kan
rekenen, naar verluidt hebben ook verschillende andere partijen
interesse. Namen daarvan werden door Sky echter niet genoemd. Naar
verwachting komt een verkoop eind dit jaar rond. BHP gaf eerder wel
aan het onderdeel ook naar de beurs te kunnen brengen bij te lage
biedingen.

BHP
zette zijn Amerikaanse schalietak vorig jaar in de verkoop. Dat deed
het bedrijf onder druk van activistische aandeelhouder Elliott
Advisors, die vond dat het onderdeel te weinig rendement opleverde.

LONDEN
(AFN) – Shell praat over een langjarige deal om gas te kopen uit twee
grote gasvelden in het oosten van de Middellandse Zee. Dat meldden
ingewijden rond de gesprekken aan persbureau Bloomberg.

Het
gaat om het Leviathan-gasveld in Israëlische wateren en het
Aphrodite-veld voor de kust van Cyprus. Shell praat over een
tienjarig contract ter waarde van 25 miljard dollar met de
ontwikkelaars van die velden. Het gas zou moeten gaan naar een
LNG-fabriek van Shell in Egypte. De onderhandelingen zouden voor het
einde van dit jaar afgerond moeten worden.

Leviathan
is in handen de Israëlische bedrijven Delek Group en Ratio Oil
Exploration, samen met het Amerikaanse Noble Energy. Noble en Delek
bezitten samen met Shell het nabijgelegen Aphrodite-veld.

15 jaar
geleden begon de regering van George W. Bush de oorlog tegen Irak.
Geheel op leugens gebaseerd was dit de aanzet tot een illegale oorlog
die intussen aan meer dan 1,5 miljoen burgers het leven heeft gekost.

Deze
oorlog was niet mogelijk geweest, als de reguliere (massa-) media
niet de leugens van de Bush administratie hadden overgenomen en dat op de
voorpagina’s en prominent in nieuws en actualiteiten uitzendingen, of dat nu op de
radio of tv was. De term ‘fake news’ bestond destijds nog niet, maar
werd wel degelijk op grote schaal gemaakt door de hiervoor genoemde
media. Vergeet niet dat meerdere deskundigen en wapeninspecteurs van
de VN, zoals Blix, keer op keer stelden dat Irak niet meer in het
bezit was van massavernietigingswapens…….

Het
volgende artikel gaat Ron Paul dieper in op alle gevolgen van
deze illegale oorlog die de VS 15 jaar geleden begon. Voorts noemt
hij het huidige tromgeroffel o.l.v. De VS tegen Noord-Korea, waar
senator Graham een paar dagen geleden stelde dat een paar miljoen
doden geen probleem zijn, als met een oorlog tegen dit land ‘stabiliteit’ in de regio wordt bereikt………..

Jammer
dat Paul niet alle andere oorlogsdreigingen van VS en NAVO zijde noemt, zoals een dreigende oorlog tegen Syrië, Iran en Libanon (deze o.l.v. Israël met steun van de VS), waar
nog Oekraïne aan toegevoegd kan worden, daar de VS daar niet alleen
meer ‘militaire adviseurs’, maar ook zware wapens levert aan dit intussen zo
goed als failliete land. Dit nog buiten alle militaire oefeningen
langs de Russische grens, waar de VS in feite oefent op een oorlog
tegen Rusland……. 

Hetzelfde geldt voor China, waar de VS dit land voor een groot deel heeft omringd met militaire bases en waar de Trump administratie dit land meer en meer met militair geweld bedreigt (zoals over de eilandjes die China claimt in de Zuid-Chinese Zee…)…….

Paul: 15 Years After the US Invaded Iraq, It’s Time to Listen to
the Iraqi People

(RPI Op-ed) — This
month marks the 15th anniversary of the US war on Iraq. The “shock
and awe” attack was launched based on “stove-piped”
intelligence fed from the CIA and Pentagon through an uncritical and
compliant US mainstream media. The US media was a willing accomplice
to this crime of aggression committed by the George W. Bush
Administration.

Despite
the lies we were constantly bombarded with, Iraq never presented a
threat to the United States. Iraq never had the weapons of mass
destruction that the neocons used to frighten Americans into
supporting the war. How many of them knew all along that there were
no WMDs? We’ll never know. Attacking Iraq and overthrowing its
leader was long a plan in the neocon playbook and they used the 9/11
attack on the US as an excuse to pull the plan off the shelf and put
it into action.

The
US “regime change” war on Iraq has directly resulted in the death
of at least a quarter of a million civilians, and indirectly perhaps
a million Iraqis have been killed. The Iraqi infrastructure was
destroyed and the country was set back many decades in development.
Far from the democratization we were promised, Iraq has been turned
into a hell on earth. Due to the US use of depleted uranium and other
chemical weapons like white phosphorus, Iraqis will continue to
suffer from birth defects and other related illnesses for
generations.

How
did we get there? War propaganda was essential in paving the way for
the Iraq war. Americans are generally skeptical about launching new
wars, so it takes a steady media bombardment about the alleged
depravities of any targeted regime before public opinion begins to
shift in favor of war.

Because
the neocons who helped launch the war have never had to face the
consequences of their actions, they continue to promote war with
impunity. Just this past week, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was pushing
for a US attack on North Korea in which millions may be killed. He
said this weekend, “All the damage that would come from a war would
be worth it in terms of long-term stability and national security.”
That’s just what they said before the US attacked Iraq, and how did
that turn out? I find it disgusting that the media continues to give
airtime almost exclusively to those who promote more US disasters
like Iraq.

The
Iraqi parliament did something extraordinary last week. A majority of
elected Iraqi representatives voted to demand that their prime
minister draw up a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops from the
country. President Obama had withdrawn US troops from Iraq in 2011,
after a status of forces agreement could not be reached with the
Iraqi government, but he returned the US military to Iraq under the
auspices of fighting ISIS.

We
had no business going into Iraq in the first place and we have no
business remaining in Iraq. Al-Qaeda and ISIS emerged in Iraq because
our attack and occupation of the country 15 years ago created fertile
fields for extremism. Nothing will be achieved if we remain. Let’s
listen to the Iraqis and just come home!

voor president beest Trump geschreven, met de waarschuwing geen
oorlog met Iran te beginnen, dit daar ze de tekenen daartoe
zien…… Zoals ze ook president George W Bush (nog zo’n gevaarlijke
malloot, dat geldt overigens ook voor Obama de gespletene)
waarschuwden geen oorlog te beginnen met Irak in de 6 weken voordat
de VS illegaal, een op leugens gebaseerde oorlog begon tegen dat
land…….

We
weten wat van de illegale oorlog tegen Irak heeft gebracht: meer dan 1,5
miljoen vermoorde Irakezen en een land dat in chaos is gedompeld en
in puin ligt (reken maar niet, met IS in het defensief, dat de
ellende voor de bevolking daar voorbij is…..)

Een
en ander is ook ingegeven door het bezoek dat de Israëlische Palestijnenslachter Netanyahu volgende week
aan de VS zal brengen, deze psychopathische moordenaar ‘is gewond
geraakt’ door met bewijs onderbouwde zware beschuldigingen van corruptie……* En als bij
gewonde roofdieren moet je dan extra oppassen, immers een oorlog met
Iran zou Netanyahu nu wel uitermate goed uitkomen…….

Uiteraard zal de VS komen met een zogenaamd bewijs waarop het ‘niet anders kan’ dan Iran aanvallen, ofwel een ‘false flag’ operatie, zoals de VS die door haar bloedige geschiedenis heen heeft gebruikt voor het uitoefenen van ongebreidelde agressie, of beter gezegd: grootschalige terreur………..

Benjamin Netanyahu next week, a group of U.S. intelligence
veterans offers corrections to a number of false accusations
that have been leveled against Iran.

INTRODUCTION

In
our December
21st Memorandum to you,
we cautioned that the claim that Iran is currently the world’s top
sponsor of terrorism is unsupported by hard evidence. Meanwhile,
other false accusations against Iran have intensified. Thus, we feel
obliged to alert you to the virtually inevitable consequences of war
with Iran, just as we warned President George W. Bush six weeks
before the U.S. attack on Iraq 15 years ago.

In our
first Memorandum in this genre we
told then-President Bush that we saw “no compelling reason” to
attack Iraq, and warned “the unintended consequences are likely to
be catastrophic.” The consequences will be far worse, should
the U.S. become drawn into war with Iran. We fear that you are
not getting the straight story on this from your intelligence and
national security officials.

After
choosing “War With Iran” for the subject-line of this Memo, we
were reminded that we had used it before, namely, for a
Memorandum to President Obama on August 3, 2010 in
similar circumstances. You may wish to ask your staff to give you
that one to read and ponder. It included a startling quote from
then-Chairman of President Bush Jr.’s Intelligence Advisory Board
(and former national security adviser to Bush Sr.) Gen. Brent
Scowcroft, who told the Financial
Times on
October 14, 2004 that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had George
W. Bush “mesmerized;” that “Sharon just has him wrapped around
his little finger.”  We wanted to remind you of that history,
as you prepare to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next
week.

Rhetoric
vs. Reality

We
believe that the recent reporting regarding possible conflict with
nuclear-armed North Korea has somewhat obscured consideration of the
significantly higher probability that Israel or even Saudi Arabia
will take steps that will lead to a war with Iran that will
inevitably draw the United States in. Israel is particularly inclined
to move aggressively, with potentially serious consequences for the
U.S., in the wake of the recent incident involving an alleged Iranian
drone and the shooting down of an Israeli aircraft.

There
is also considerable anti-Iran rhetoric in U.S. media, which might
well facilitate a transition from a cold war-type situation to a hot
war involving U.S. forces. We have for some time been observing with
some concern the growing hostility towards Iran coming out of
Washington and from the governments of Israel and Saudi Arabia.
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster is warning that the “time
to act is now” to thwart Iran’s aggressive regional ambitions
while U.S. United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley sees a “wake-up”
call in the recent shooting incident involving Syria and Israel.
Particular concern has been expressed by the White House that Iran is
exploiting Shi’a minorities in neighboring Sunni dominated states
to create unrest and is also expanding its role in neighboring Iraq
and Syria.

While
we share concerns over the Iranian government’s intentions
vis-à-vis its neighbors, we do not believe that the developments in
the region, many of which came about through American missteps, have
a major impact on vital U.S. national interests. Nor is Iran, which
often sees itself as acting defensively against surrounding Sunni
states, anything like an existential threat to the United States that
would mandate the sustained military action that would inevitably
result if Iran is attacked.

Iran’s
alleged desire to stitch together a sphere of influence consisting of
an arc of allied nations and proxy forces running from its western
borders to the Mediterranean Sea has been frequently cited as
justification for a more assertive policy against Tehran, but we
believe this concern to be greatly exaggerated. Iran, with a
population of more than 80 million, is, to be sure, a major regional
power but militarily, economically and politically it is highly
vulnerable.

Limited
Military Capability

Tehran’s
Revolutionary Guard is well armed and trained, but much of its “boots
on the ground” army consists of militiamen of variable quality. Its
Air Force is a “shadow” of what existed under the Shah and
is significantly outgunned by its rivals in the Persian Gulf, not to
mention Israel. Its navy is only “green water” capable in that it
consists largely of smaller vessels responsible for coastal defense
supplemented by the swarming of Revolutionary Guard small speedboats.

When
Napoleon had conquered much of continental Europe and was
contemplating invading Britain it was widely believed that England
was helpless before him. British Admiral Earl St Vincent was
unperturbed: “I do not say the French can’t come, I only say they
can’t come by sea.” We likewise believe that Iran’s apparent
threat is in reality decisively limited by its inability to project
power across the water or through the air against neighboring states
that have marked superiority in both respects.

The
concern over a possibly developing “Shi’ite land bridge,” also
referred to as an “arc” or “crescent,” is likewise
overstated. It ignores the reality that Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon all
have strong national identities and religiously mixed populations.
They are influenced — some of them strongly — by Iran but they
are not puppet states. And there is also an ethnic division that the
neighboring states’ populations are very conscious of– they are
Arabs and Iran is Persian, which is also true of the Shi’a
populations in Saudi Arabia and the Emirates.

Majority
Shi’a Iraq, for example, is now very friendly to Iran but it has to
deal with considerable Kurdish and Sunni minorities in its governance
and in the direction of its foreign policy. It will not do Iran’s
bidding on a number of key issues, including Baghdad’s relationship
with Washington, and would be unwilling to become a proxy in Tehran’s
conflicts with Israel and Saudi Arabia. Iraqi Vice President Osama
al-Nujaifi, the highest-ranking Sunni in the Prime Minister Haider
al-Abadi government, has, for example, recently called for the
demobilization of the Shi’ite Popular Mobilization Forces or
militias that have been fighting ISIS because they “have their own
political aspirations, their own [political] agendas. … They are
very dangerous to the future of Iraq.”

Nuclear
Weapons Thwarted

A
major concern that has undergirded much of the perception of an
Iranian threat is the possibility that Tehran will develop a nuclear
weapon somewhere down the road. We believe that the current Joint
Comprehensive Plan of Action, even if imperfect, provides the best
response to that Iranian proliferation problem. The U.N. inspections
regime is strict and, if the agreement stands, there is every reason
to believe that Iran will be unable to take the necessary precursor
steps leading to a nuclear weapons program. Iran will be further
limited in its options after the agreement expires in nine years.
Experts believe that, at that point, Iran its not likely to choose to
accumulate the necessary highly enriched uranium stocks to proceed.

The
recent incident involving the shoot-down of a drone alleged to be
Iranian, followed by the downing of an Israeli fighter by a Syrian
air defense missile, resulted in a sharp response from Tel Aviv,
though reportedly mitigated by a warning from Russian President
Vladimir Putin that anything more provocative might inadvertently
involve Russia in the conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu is said to have moderated his response but his government
is clearly contemplating a more robust intervention to counter what
he describes as a developing Iranian presence in Syria.

In
addition, Netanyahu may be indicted on corruption charges, and it is
conceivable that he might welcome a “small war” to deflect
attention from mounting political problems at home.

Getting
Snookered Into War

We
believe that the mounting Iran hysteria evident in the U.S. media and
reflected in Beltway groupthink has largely been generated by Saudi
Arabia and Israel, who nurture their own aspirations for regional
political and military supremacy. There are no actual American vital
interests at stake and it is past time to pause and take a step
backwards to consider what those interests actually are in a region
that has seen nothing but disaster since 2003. Countering an assumed
Iranian threat that is minimal and triggering a war would be
catastrophic and would exacerbate instability, likely leading to a
breakdown in the current political alignment of the entire Middle
East. It would be costly for the United States.

Iran
is not militarily formidable, but its ability to fight on the
defensive against U.S. naval and air forces is considerable and can
cause high casualties. There appears to be a perception in the
Defense

Department
that Iran could be defeated in a matter of days, but we would warn
that such predictions tend to be based on overly optimistic
projections, witness the outcomes in Afghanistan and Iraq. In
addition, Tehran would be able again to unleash terrorist resources
throughout the region, endangering U.S. military and diplomats based
there as well as American travelers and businesses. The terrorist
threat might easily extend beyond the Middle East into Europe and
also the United States, while the dollar costs of a major new
conflict and its aftermath could break the bank, literally.

Another
major consideration before ratcheting up hostilities should be that a
war with Iran might not be containable. As the warning from President
Vladimir Putin to Netanyahu made clear, other major powers have
interests in what goes on in the Persian Gulf, and there is a real
danger that a regional war could have global consequences.

In
sum, we see a growing risk that the U.S. will become drawn into
hostilities on pretexts fabricated by Israel and Saudi Arabia for
their actual common objective (“regime change” in Iran). A
confluence of factors and misconceptions about what is at stake and
how such a conflict is likely to develop, coming from both inside and
outside the Administration have, unfortunately, made such an outcome
increasingly likely.

We
have seen this picture before, just 15 years ago in Iraq, which
should serve as a warning. The prevailing perception of threat
that the Mullahs of Iran allegedly pose directly against the security
of the U.S. is largely contrived. Even if all the allegations were
true, they would not justify an Iraq-style “preventive war”
violating national as well as international law. An ill-considered
U.S. intervention in Iran is surely not worth the horrific
humanitarian, military, economic, and political cost to be paid if
Washington allows itself to become part of an armed attack.
