Amnesty
International heeft onderzoek gedaan in Somalië naar luchtaanvallen
van de VS op het gebied dat in handen is van al-Shabaab. Al
jaren steunt de VS de Somalische regering in de vrijwel onbekende, of
geheime oorlog tegen al-Shabaab….. Sinds Trump in het Witte Huis
zit, is de VS bemoeienis met Somalië een stuk agressiever…..
Niet
vreemd dus dat Amnesty concludeert dat bij de luchtaanvallen van de
VS een groot aantal burgerslachtoffers werd (en wordt) vermoord…… Alweer
zoals gewoonlijk, ontkent de VS dat het burgerslachtoffers
maakt……
Amnesty
dringt aan bij de VS en de Somalische regering op meer onderzoek
naar dergelijke moorden, voorts pleit deze mensenrechtenorganisatie aan op meer transparantie, bovendien zou het
eenvoudig moeten zijn voor gemeenschappen melding te maken van
dergelijke moorden.
Helaas
mensen, je kan er donder op zeggen dat het laatste niet zal gebeuren,
men vindt het allang prima dat de wereldgemeenschap geen of weinig
weet heeft van de VS terreur in Somalië, immers de VS oorlogsmisdaden
liggen wat betreft de Trump administratie al veel te veel onder het ‘wereld vergrootglas…..’
Daarover
gesproken: vorige week dinsdag werd bekend gemaakt dat de VS een aantal
functionarissen van het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) de toegang tot de VS
heeft ontzegd, daar zij onderzoek doen naar oorlogsmisdaden van de
VS, voorts heeft de VS aangekondigd andere maatregelen te zullen nemen tegen het ICC, als dit Strafhof doorgaat met haar onderzoek naar oorlogsmisdaden door de VS begaan……

US
Killing Civilians With ‘Impunity’ in Hidden War on Somalia:
Report
(CD) —
A human rights group is accusing the United States of waging a shadow
air war in Somalia that is killing civilians with abandon.
Amnesty
International issued its findings on the African war Tuesday
evening in a report titled The
Hidden US War in Somalia (pdf).
The
U.S. has been covertly engaging in conflicts in Somalia for decades,
but in April 2017, the Donald Trump administration upped airstrikes
and attacks targeted at the rebel group Al-Shabaab.
The
human rights advocacy group studied five of more than 100 strikes on
Somalia over the past two years and found that 14 civilians were
killed in the attacks. Eight others were injured, the report says.
“These
five incidents were carried out with Reaper drones and manned
aircraft in Lower Shabelle,” Amnesty said in a press release, “a
region largely under Al-Shabaab control outside the Somali capital
Mogadishu.”
The
U.S. military denied to Amnesty that any civilians have been killed
as a result of American operations in Somalia.
However,
Amnesty’s report claims its methodology is sound and that the
evidence is overwhelming.
“The
attacks appear to have violated international humanitarian law,”
the organization said, “and some may amount to war crimes.”
In
comments provided to the media, Brian Castner, the group’s senior
crisis advisor on arms and military operations, claimed that the
continued airstrikes are also a sign of the Trump administration’s
aggressive use of military action across the world.
“The
civilian death toll we’ve uncovered in just a handful of strikes
suggests the shroud of secrecy surrounding the US role in Somalia’s
war is actually a smokescreen for impunity,” Castner said.
Amnesty
is calling for an official government investigation into the killings
and airstrikes and urging people to add their name to a petition to
Congress to force action. Ella Knight, an Amnesty researcher
concentrating on military, security and police, said that pushing for
oversight is key.
“The
U.S. government must ensure investigations into all credible
allegations of civilian casualties are carried out with
accountability for those responsible for violations and reparation
made to the victims and survivors,” said Knight.
The
mission doesn’t end with U.S. and Somali accountability, Knight
added. She argued it’s the responsibility of both governments to
make it easier and safer for communities affected by the war to
publicly acknowledge civilian casualties.
“Both
the US and Somali governments need to put an end the lack of
transparency and must do more to enable affected communities to
self-report civilian casualties,” Knight said. “Without this,
justice is likely to remain elusive.”
Israël ‘onderzoekt’ (voor wat het waard is) 11 van de 189 door haar leger gepleegde moorden, die werden gepleegd tijdens de Great Return March…. Schandalig dat niet alle moorden worden onderzocht, maar ik moet
toegeven dat ik zelfs onderzoek door Israël van 1 moord niet had verwacht. Er is
dan ook maar 1 verklaring voor: de ophef die deze moorden in de
arabische wereld hebben veroorzaakt. Normaal zou Israël daar geen
moeite mee hebben, echter nu Israël banden heeft aangeknoopt met de
Golfstaten is de situatie veranderd, overigens nadat deze terreurstaat al een aantal jaren geleden hetzelfde deed met
de reli-fascistsche terreurstaat Saoedi-Arabië.
In
het hieronder opgenomen artikel van Middle East Monitor (MEMO) wordt gesteld dat dodelijke acties van het Israëlische leger alleen
plaatsvinden als er direct levensgevaar bestaat voor militairen of
Israelsiche burgers (en dan alleen voor de Joden zoals je
begrijpt…)….. Het past niet om te lachen in deze, anders zou je
je daadwerkelijk doodlachen….
Het
voorgaande daar de psychopaten, die 99% het Israëlische leger vormen, o.a. schoten (met het doel te doden) op ongewapende Palestijnse: kinderen,
invaliden, medisch hulpverleners (waaronder een arts) en
journalisten…… Waar deze groepen duidelijk als zodanig herkenbaar
waren, de medisch hulpverleners zelfs nog met duidelijk zichtbare kleding (dat dit aangaf), bovendien werden zij vermoord terwijl ze medische
hulp boden aan gewonden, voorts waren de journalisten te herkennen aan
het woord ‘pers’ op hun kleding…….
Israël heeft volgens de VN 189 Palestijnen vermoord, die voor het overgrote
deel ongewapend waren, degenen die ‘bewapend waren’, werkte met
katapulten en slingers, me dunkt tegenover het modern en zwaar
bewapende Israëlische leger geen tegenstander die er toe
doet……… Verder moet je niet vergeten dat er naast de doden ook
nog eens meer dan 6.100 gewonden te betreuren waren, waaronder
uiteraard een flink aantal zwaar gewonden, niet zo vreemd als je
bedenkt dat het de opzet was deze mensen te vermoorden…..
Wel
moet gezegd worden dat de cijfers, die genoemd worden in het artikel,
zoals gezegd van de VN, eerdere onderzoeken tegenspreken, er zouden
veel meer doden zijn gevallen (rond de 250), inclusief een groter aantal dode
Palestijnse kinderen, dit zouden er al meer dan 50 zijn….. Ofwel:
ondanks dat de cijfers van de VN al schokkend genoeg zijn, is het
aantal genoemde doden en gewonden aan de lage kant, om het
voorzichtig uit te drukken (wat betreft het aantal gewonden werden
eerder cijfers van ver boven de 10.000 genoemd….)
De
VN noemde de moorden een paar weken geleden volkomen terecht
oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid……

doden (van de 189) terecht werden vermoord…….. Terwijl zich onder

Het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC)
zou nu eindelijk eens met de eerste resultaten van onderzoek moeten
komen naar de massamoorden begaan door de Israëlische terreurstaat:

Israel
is carrying out criminal investigations into the killing of 11
Palestinians by Israeli forces at border protests in Gaza last year,
Israeli officials said on Wednesday, says Reuters.
A
United Nations human rights panel said two weeks ago that Israeli
troops had killed 189 Palestinians and wounded more than 6,100
at protests from March 30 to December 31.
Their actions may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity,
it said.
Senior
Israeli officials, speaking to reporters in Geneva on Wednesday,
rejected the finding that its forces may have committed war crimes.
The
UN report also said Israel had opened criminal investigations in only
five cases, including the death of four children.
But
a senior Israeli official said an inquiry was held into each and
every death. Israel had opened about 300 initial inquiries, and
criminal investigations were underway related to 11 individuals, he
said.
“If
we find somebody violated the law there will be consequences as well.
But for a war crime, it needs to be intentional.”
Under
Israeli rules of engagement, live fire can be used only if there is a
real and imminent threat from individuals or a mob, and only as a
last resort, the official said.
“Each
and every bullet received authorisation of an experienced commander
at the scene,” he said.
The
Gaza protesters are demanding Israel ease a blockade of the enclave
and recognize their right to return to lands their families fled or
were forced from when Israel was founded in 1948.
Thirty-five
children, two journalists and three “clearly-marked” paramedics
were among those killed by Israeli forces, in violation of
international humanitarian law, the UN panel said. Other victims
included a double amputee in a wheelchair.
The
senior Israeli official, asked about such killings, said: “The idea
as policy is never aimed fire at a journalist, women or children. But
in course of events, somebody could be hit by mistake.”
Israel
has said its forces opened fire to protect the border from incursions
and attacks by armed militants.
The
officials accused the UN investigators of having ignored the role of
Hamas in inciting Palestinian civilians, deploying militants among
the activists, and firing 1,300 rockets into Israel.
Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the report and accused
the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which launched
the investigation,
of hypocrisy and lies fuelled by “an obsessive hatred for Israel”.
The
Geneva forum is expected next week to back the panel’s findings,
including a
call for a referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC),
diplomats say. The Hague court has opened a preliminary investigation
into allegations of Israeli rights abuses on Palestinian territory in
2015.

het ziekenhuis op de intensive care met brandwonden…….
Israëlische
militairen bij de wegversperring werd gesmeekt de brandweerwagen snel doorgang
te verlenen, juist vanwege de kinderen…. Tevergeefs…..
Beste
bezoeker is het niet om doodziek van te worden?? Als je dacht dat dit
wel niet veel zal voorkomen, helaas: sinds 2015 heeft het Israëlisch
psychopatenleger 123 keer ambulances gestopt…… Dat was
het nog niet beste bezoeker: 386 keer zijn teams van de Rode
Halvemaan aangevallen door kolonisten en Israelsiche
militairen op de (nogmaals) illegaal door Israël bezette
gebieden van de West Bank……. Voorts zijn in diezelfde periode 105 ambulances
vernield, dan wel beschadigd…….
Afgelopen december schoten Israëlische psychopaten een kind neer in vluchtelingenkamp Al-Jalazun, waarna ze een toegesnelde ambulance verjaagden, pas een kwartier later werd een ambulance toegelaten, onderweg naar het ziekenhuis overleed het kind…….
Hoe kan de wereld dit aan blijven zien, zonder in te grijpen en dat al dik meer dan 70 jaar…….

Tot slot: ziek, als
je bij nazoeken van zaken op een pro-Israëlische site komt genaamd ‘Israellycool’, waar men bijvoorbeeld stelt dat er aanvankelijk werd gemeld dat
de twee kinderen in de brand waren omgekomen, terwijl later bleek dat
de ander ‘pas’ de volgende morgen in het ziekenhuis is overleden en vanwege dat feit de hele zaak afdoen als
anti-Israëlische propaganda…….. Misselijk

(MEMO) — Two
Palestinian children have been killed in a blaze at their home in
occupied Hebron after the Israeli authorities prevented the fire
brigade from reaching them in time.
The
two children – one of whom is believed to have been just 18-months
old – were burned to death in a fire at their home in the
Al-Salaymeh neighbourhood of Hebron’s Old City in the occupied West
Bank. One was reported dead late last night, while the second
succumbed to the burns received this morning after receiving
emergency treatment at the nearby Hebron government hospital. A third
child, thought to be the dead children’s brother, also suffered
severe burns in the incident and remains in intensive care, according
to hospital Director Dr Walid Zalloum.
The
names of the three children have not been released formally, but
Palestinian news site Palestine
Today named
the two who were killed as four-year-old Wael Al-Rajabi and his
18-month-old sister Malik. The local police spokesman, Colonel Loai
Arziqat, confirmed in
a press statement that two children had died, but did not offer
further information.
Though
the emergency services were called, the fire brigade was prevented
from reaching the scene by Israeli soldiers. In a video filmed last
night at 21:50 local time (19:50 GMT), the fire engine can be seen
trying to drive down a narrow street. The truck comes to a stop at a
road block obstructing the way, while local residents implore the
Israeli soldiers stationed there to “open the gate quickly, for the
children.”
The
Israeli soldiers, however, did not yield to the onlookers’ pleas,
delaying the emergency services’ response and preventing them from
reaching the property. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Israel
is no stranger to restricting emergency services’ access to
Palestinians in need. According to Medical Aid for Palestinians
(MAP), citing the Palestine Red Crescent Society, since 2015 Israel
has prevented ambulances
from crossing checkpoints on 123 occasions. In addition, there were
386 attacks against Red Crescent teams across the occupied
Palestinian territories (oPt) during the same period, as well as 105
ambulances damaged.
In
December, Israeli soldiers shot a
Palestinian child then prevented him from receiving potentially
life-saving medical treatment; he died soon thereafter.
Seventeen-year-old Mahmoud Nakhle was shot as Israeli forces
suppressed protests around Al-Jalazun refugee camp near Ramallah, in
the occupied West Bank. A few minutes later, the soldiers chased off
a Palestinian ambulance, threatening the driver with their rifles and
not giving Nakhle first aid themselves.
Only
after a quarter of an hour did the soldiers allow an ambulance to be
summoned, but Nakhle died en route to hospital.
Palestinian

international law, as the occupying power Israel is forbidden from
preventing access to medical care and emergency services to the
people living under its occupation. According to the Fourth
Geneva Convention,

to the population under occupation.” In addition, “Personnel of
the International Red Crescent Movement must be allowed to carry out
their humanitarian activities.”
Israel,
however, continues to breach this and other articles of international
laws and conventions with impunity.

Stein de voormalige presidentskandidaat van de Green Party in de VS,
heeft in een paar punten duidelijk gemaakt dat het de VS niet gaat om
‘mensenrechtenschendingen’ of de armoede in Venezuela, dit door te
wijzen op andere situaties waar de VS totaal geen problemen heeft met
deze schendingen, zelfs als ze uitmonden in massamoorden……
Wat betreft armoede moet de VS zich al helemaal stilhouden, gezien de enorme armoede in dat gestolen land, waar 29 miljoen van de 40 miljoen arme mensen* niet eens een gezondheidsverzekering hebben…….
Jammer
dat Stein alleen terzijde in een Twitterbericht wijst op het feit dat
het de VS gaat om olie, terwijl Venezuela de op één na grootste
olievoorraad ter wereld bezit, waar Venezuela ook nog eens de beschikking
over heeft over een grote hoeveelheid coltan, een grondstof die wordt
gebruikt in de smartphone….. Beiden zaken waar de VS de beschikking over wil hebben…….
Als
voorbeelden voor het geen probleem hebben met (fascistische)
dictaturen of andere rechtse regimes, noemt Stein Colombia en
Honduras, die worden gesteund door de VS (waar de VS zelfs
verantwoordelijk is voor de coup van 2009 in Honduras….)…. Weer
een misser, waarom niet wijzen op het feit dat de VS de Saoedische
terreurcoalitie steunt bij het uitvoeren van een genocide in Jemen??
Een zaak waar de wereld echt van op de kop zou moeten staan, i.p.v.
de gebeurtenissen in Venezuela, NB één op één het gevolg van de
economische oorlog die de VS al jaren voert tegen dit land!!!
Wel een
goed voorbeeld van Stein is het met enorm veel geweld neerslaan van
protesten tegen het neoliberalisme door arme Venezolanen in 1989…… Protesten die de naam Caracazo
meekregen, protesten waarbij het destijds fascistische regime een
enorme slachting heeft aangericht, waarvan de naar schatting 300 tot 3.000
slachtoffers in massagraven werden gedumpt…… Caracazo was de
aanloop naar de grootste slachting uit de Venezolaanse geschiedenis,
aldus de schrijver Ed Sykes van het hieronder opgenomen artikel van The Canary.
Stein
zegt dat de VS totaal geen moeite had met deze slachting 30 jaar geleden in Venezuela en de andere
kant opkeek (vergelijk dit eens met de houding van de VS nu…),
terwijl Stein stelt dat de VS rechtse (en ronduit fascistische, Ap) regimes steunt, ziet ze blijkbaar
niet dat de VS ook voor deze slachting in Venezuela haar toestemming en wellicht
zelfs advies heeft gegeven aan de dictatuur hoe e.e.a. aan te pakken……
Stein
slaat de plank nog eens mis, door te wijzen op de arme Venezolanen
die geen eten zouden hebben en in het vuilnis naar voedsel zoeken,
iets waar ze terecht over zegt dat dit in de VS veelvuldig
gebeurt….. De beelden over honger en andere ellende in Venezuela
zijn onderdeel van de anti-Maduro propaganda…… Uiteraard zijn er
zware tekorten, echter al een paar maanden zijn het Rode Kruis en de
VN bezig met humanitaire hulp in Venezuela, dit met een hoeveelheid
humanitaire hulpgoederen die bewezen niet in de schaduw kan staan van
wat de VS klaar heeft staan over de grens van Venezuela en Brazilië……. (20 keer zoveel!)
Terecht
stelt Stein dat de VS de grote tekorten in Venezuela heeft
veroorzaakt, waar ze wijst op de huidige sancties, intussen
overgenomen door o.a. Canada en de EU……. Alweer jammer dat Stein
niet meldt dat de VS al voor de sancties bezig was met een boycot van
Venezuela wat betreft levensmiddelen en medicijnen, ook al was deze
boycot niet officieel, is het al lang duidelijk dat e.e.a. heeft
plaatsgevonden….. Zo heeft Hillary Clinton, als minister van BuZa
onder ‘vredesduif’ Obama, de VS supermarktketens met winkels in
Venezuela onder druk gezet de voorraden niet of anders mondjesmaat
aan te vullen, waar ze de grote farmaceuten onder druk zette
hetzelfde te doen met medicijnleveringen voor Venezuela……
Het
Canary artikel is wel degelijk van belang daar op een aantal
hypocriete zaken wordt gewezen, zoals het aanhalen van de opstand in
1989 en bijvoorbeeld de uitlating van de VN dat de VS sancties
verantwoordelijk zijn voor de doden die in Venezuela zijn
gevallen…… Jammer dat niet wordt aangegeven dat de doden door de
sancties, de chronisch zieken en terminaal zieken zijn, aangevuld met heel jonge slachtoffers, alles door gebrek aan medicijnen…..
Wat een
gemiste kans niet even te wijzen op het feit dat dezelfde VN en het
Rode Kruis beiden de VS veroordeelden voor het tot een politiek
drukmiddel maken van humanitaire hulp, terwijl deze organisaties
zoals gezegd allang volop humanitaire hulp verstrekken binnen de
grenzen van Venezuela……
Met haar
pleidooi geeft Stein de anti-propaganda van de VS en de reguliere
westerse massamedia deels gelijk, anders kan ik het niet zien…..
Nogmaals: het artikel is verder belangrijk genoeg om te belichten,
daar er wel degelijk wordt gewezen op het schunnige beleid van de VS
(en andere westerse landen) tegen in feite het Venezolaanse
volk……
Wel mooi
dat Stein in feite in 2 punten weergeeft hoe hypocriet de VS bezig
is.

Stein clobbers US warhawks with a perfect takedown of their
regime-change propaganda
Former
US Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has been on fire
recently. In particular, she’s been putting
the mainstream US left to
shame with her vocal
opposition to
the US-backed coup
attempt in
Venezuela. This week, on the 30th anniversary of a notorious massacre
by a US-backed government in the country, she had a perfect takedown
of US warhawks. And we should all listen to her.
When
the US turned a blind eye to Venezuela’s biggest massacre
As
author George Ciccariello-Maher pointed out on 27 February:
30 years ago today in Venezuela: the mass rebellion against neoliberalism known as the Caracazo, which ended in the massacre of 300 to 3,000, most dumped in mass graves. Today, neoliberals claim the mantle of human rights as they try to do the same. Never forget!
And
Stein spread that message. In particular, she stressed how Washington
ignored the Caracazo (Venezuela’s biggest massacre
in the 20th century) just like it ignores the dire situations
in Colombia and Honduras today:
30 years ago Venezuela’s neoliberal gov’t brutally crushed a poor people’s uprising. US ignored it, just like it ignores political prisoners, targeted killings, & humanitarian crises in right-wing states like Colombia & Honduras. US cares about #Venezuela‘s oil, NOT human rights.
Colombia
and Honduras, of course, are US allies. Venezuela, on the other hand,
isn’t. And Washington has a long
history of
boosting far-right allies in Latin America while opposing anyone on
the left.
Seriously,
Washington? Stop taking the piss.
US
political elites have been obsessing over Venezuela’s crisis for
weeks now.
They’ve also been tightening
their chokehold on
Venezuela’s economy with more and more sanctions. As a former UN

Stein
isn’t falling for the warhawks’ propaganda and phoney concern,
though. Instead, she’s been pointing out that these same elites
have done precious nothing to end crises raging at home:
Isn’t it weird that Trump hasn’t done a thing to help 40M Americans in poverty, 29M without health insurance, 500K living on the streets, or entire cities without clean water… but suddenly he cares so much about humanitarian aid to #Venezuela that he’s willing to start a war?
Republicans seem concerned about a video of people in #Venezuela eating from the garbage. Strange – they’ve never done a thing to help over 500K homeless Americans! But if they really want to help Venezuelans, why not lift sanctions The Economist admitted will lead to starvation?
Isn’t it strange that Trump wants to ram through #Venezuela‘s border to “bring humanitarian aid to desperate people”, while his party wants to prosecute Americans who give water to refugees at our border? Almost like their “humanitarian aid” is just an excuse to incite a war.
Stein
has brilliantly cut through the bullshit that US warhawks have
been spewing for
weeks now. And she’s exposed and stressed two key points:
That
Washington picks and chooses which foreign crises to get angry
about, usually depending on whether the local governments are allies
or not.
That
Washington waxes lyrical about poverty abroad, but does next to

Afgelopen
woensdag werd Madeline Albright’, minister BuZa en
oorlogsmisdadiger onder Clinton ‘op de gril gelegd’ door Ilan Omar,
een democratisch vertegenwoordiger* in het lagerhuis van Minnesota, een vrouw die de laatste tijd volkomen terecht en opvallend luid aan de weg timmert.
Onderwerp
van gesprek, zoals je al uit de kop begrepen had, waren en zijn de sancties die
de VS andere landen oplegde/oplegt en de militaire interventies (lees: illegale oorlogen) die de VS
keer op keer voert (en dat tegen landen waar de VS niets te zoeken
heeft, Ap)
Wat betreft de illegale oorlogen zei Albright over Afghanistan dat de VS dat land aanviel omdat daar de kapers van 9/11 vandaan kwamen >> dit is een pertinente leugen: het overgrote deel van de kapers kwam uit Saoedi-Arabië, waarmee de VS nog steeds goed bevriend is en dat het zelfs steunt bij de genocide die dit land samen met andere terreurstaten uitoefent in Jemen…… Over 9/11 gesproken: het land dat het meest baat had bij die aanslagen was de VS zelf en meer gespecificeerd, het militair-industrieel complex en de geheime diensten van de VS….
Ook de illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Libië was volgens Albright gerechtigd, Khadaffi zou een bloedige dictator zou geweest**, terwijl de bevolking onder zijn bewind in welstand leefde: zo goed als gratis huisvesting, scholing voor jongens en meisjes, waar studenten (mannen en vrouwen) zelfs in het buitenland mochten studeren op kosten van de regering, waar ook de huisvesting en leefgeld voor die studenten werden betaald! Of wat dacht je van de gratis medische zorg en bijna gratis energielevering……
Libië, het eens rijkste land van Afrika is verworden tot bijna het armste en het ontbreekt de bevolking nu aan alles, meisjes mogen niet meer naar school en het volk leeft in grote chaos, een land waar nu openlijk slavenmarkten worden gehouden…… Nee, echt een succes Albright, die illegale oorlog!!!
Ondanks
dat sancties vooral het gewone volk treffen, durfde Albright een
aantal jaren geleden in het tv programma 60 Minutes tegen presentator
Lesley Stahl te zeggen dat ze nog steeds achter de sancties stond die
ze Irak onder Saddam Hoessein oplegde en waardoor 500.000 Iraakse kinderen
omkwamen…… De dood van die half miljoen kinderen, zo stelde Albright, waren zelfs met terugwerkende kracht nog steeds de moeite waard……. Dit terwijl het niets veranderde aan de Iraakse situatie destijds……..
Albright
staat nog steeds achter het sanctieapparaat (in feite chantage en zoals destijds in Irak zelfs massamoord) dat de VS in feite illegaal gebruikt tegen haar onwelgevallige landen…… Albright schijnt godbetert nog steeds les te geven en daar onderwijst ze ook sancties en de zin daarvan….
Jammer dat Omar niet begon over de 500.000 kinderen die in Irak omkwamen….. Al moet ik
zeggen dat het me meevalt dat de gitzwarte kwaadaardige trol Albright nu
zegt dat de sancties die heden ten dage worden opgelegd, alleen
opgelegd mogen worden als ze de gewone bevolking niet treffen, waarmee ze haar eerdere verdediging van de sancties tegen Irak in feite heeft herroepen……
Dit nog naast het feit dat de VS, zoals gezegd, alleen landen ‘aanvalt’ met sancties als de regering van dat land niet de hielen van de VS likt, als dit namelijk wel het geval is, maakt het de VS niet uit hoe vaak mensenrechten worden geschonden of zelfs massamoorden worden gepleegd….. Zie nogmaals de verhouding van de VS met landen als Saoedi-Arabië, Israël, Egypte, Honduras, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazilië en ga nog maar een half uur door…..

Omar Questions Madeline Albright on Failures of US Military
Intervention and Sanctions
“As
someone who understands the horrors of war firsthand,” noted
Minnesota Democrat, “I worry when we fail to consider the human
toll of war and our moral responsibility to the people of these
countries.”
(CD) — While
much of the country was watching the testimony of Michael Cohen on
Wednesday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was questioning former Secretary
of State Madeline Albright in a separate, largely vacant hearing room
about sanctions and the pitfalls of past U.S. military interventions.
“Some
scholars and practitioners of foreign policy have questioned whether
sanctions are effective in changing the behavior of certain
governments,” Omar said, pointing out that economic sanctions can
have dire effects on the innocent populations of targeted countries.
Albright,
who once infamously told 60 Minutes reporter Lesley Stahl that the
deaths of half-a-million Iraqi children due to sanctions were “worth
it” to get rid of then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, said
sanctions still have a role to play in American foreign policy.
Sanctions
should be understood as a foreign policy tactic between diplomacy and
force, explained Albright.
“We
have learned a lot about sanctions,” said Albright. “We learned
that comprehensive sanctions, which we did in Iraq, hurt the people,
and we began to look at targeted or smart sanctions.”
Omar
and Albright’s exchange came during a hearing (pdf)
in the House Foreign Affairs Committee Wednesday entitled “The
Trump Administration’s Foreign Policy: A Mid-Term Assessment.”
Albright was on hand to discuss the administration’s priorities and
didn’t hold back in her assessment of the first two years of the
Trump doctrine.
“The
administration’s record is marked by confusion, inconsistency, a
lack of diplomacy, and, in some cases, a complete abdication of
responsibility,” Albright said in her testimony, who added that the
State Department’s funding and staffing woes were adding to a loss
of U.S. standing in the world.
Newly-elected
to the House, Omar joined The
Intercept‘s
Medhi Hassan this week to discuss her first two months in office.

Claim Trump Trying to Transfer Nuke Technology to Saudi Arabia
(ZH) — The
House Oversight committee now chaired by Democrat Elijah Cummings
issued an interim
staff report after
several whistleblowers came forward “to
warn about efforts inside the White House to rush the transfer of
highly sensitive U.S. nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia in potential
violation of the Atomic Energy Act,”
spearheaded by Jared Kushner, according to a press
release by
the House Oversight Committee.
The
press release is in conjunction with
the announcement of an investigation into the allegations.
The
plan, which reportedly involved former White House National Security
Adviser Michael Flynn, Kushner and Trump fundraiser Thomas Barrack,
would see the development of “dozens of nuclear power plants” in
a “Middle East Marshall Plan” through IP3 – a private US
company which has “assembled
a consortium of US companies to build nuclear plants in Saudi
Arabia.”
The
whistleblowers allege that the efforts were made without review by
Congress “as required by law,” and may be ongoing to this day.
“The
whistleblowers who came forward have expressed significant concerns
about the potential procedural and legal violations connected with
rushing through a plan to transfer nuclear technology to Saudi
Arabia. They have warned of conflicts of interest among top
White House advisers that could implicate federal criminal statutes. They
have also warned about a working environment inside the White House
marked by chaos, dysfunction, and backbiting. And
they have warned about political appointees ignoring directives from
top ethics advisors at the White House who repeatedly and
unsuccessfully ordered senior Trump Administration officials to halt
their efforts.” -Interim Staff Report
According
to the report, efforts to transfer the sensitive US nuclear
technology to Saudi Arabia may
be accelerating following White House meetings last week ahead of
Jared Kushner’s planned visit to the Middle-Eastern country.
“The
Committee’s investigation is particularly critical because the
Administration’s efforts to transfer sensitive U.S. nuclear
technology to Saudi Arabia appear to be ongoing. On February
12, 2019, the President met with nuclear power developers at the
White House about sharing nuclear technology with countries in the
Middle East, including Saudi Arabia. In addition, next week Mr.
Kushner will be embarking on a tour of Middle Eastern
capitals—including Riyadh—to discuss the economic portion of the
Administration’s Middle East peace plan.” -Interim Staff
Report
The
report notes that the White House has failed to submit a report on
the murder of Washington
Post columnist
and political operative Jamal Khashoggi.
The
report indicates that there is now serious, bipartisan concern with
the Trump Administration’s efforts to transfer sensitive U.S.
nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. For example, on October 31,
2018, Republican Senators Marco Rubio, Todd Young, Cory Gardner, Rand
Paul, and Dean Heller sent a letter to
President Trump urging him to “suspend talks related to a potential
civil nuclear cooperation agreement between the United States and
Saudi Arabia” due to “serious concerns about the transparency,
accountability, and judgment of current decisionmakers in Saudi
Arabia.”
The
report describes new
documents and communications between
White House officials, including former National Security Advisor
Michael Flynn, former Deputy National Security Advisor K.T.
McFarland, and former NSC Senior Director for Middle East and North
African Affairs Derek Harvey, as well as with Thomas Barrack,
President Trump’s personal friend of several decades and the
Chairman of his Inaugural Committee, and Rick Gates, President
Trump’s former Deputy Campaign Manager and Deputy Chairman of the
Inaugural Committee who has now pleaded guilty to financial fraud and
lying to investigators.
Today,
Cummings also sent letters to multiple entities involved with
promoting this plan, including the White House; the Departments of
Commerce, Defense, Energy, State, and Treasury; the Joint Chiefs of
Staff; the Central Intelligence Agency; Flynn Intel Group; IP3; ACU
Strategies; Colony NorthStar; and Mr. Barrack.

nog, een onderzoek wees uit dat 0,1% van de 540.000 Labour leden echt antisemitische uitspraken hebben geventileerd, voor het
overige gaar het zoals opgemerkt over terechte kritiek op Israël vanwege massamoorden, mensen- en kinderrechtenschendingen en misdaden
tegen de menselijkheid, zaken die niets van doen hebben met
antisemitisme, anders dan Joden die zich hieraan schuldig hebben gemaakt en maken……. Zelfs als bij die kritiek niet één keer het woord Jood valt,
wordt de criticus toch beschuldigd van antisemitisme…….. Blijkbaar vinden dat
soort lui dat Israël alle rechten heeft om wie dan ook te vermoorden,
te martelen, te ontvoeren en te gijzelen, zonder daarvoor ter verantwoording te worden geroepen…….
Overigens is de hele hysterie over (niet bestaand) antisemitisme een vehikel om Jeremy Corbyn zo zwart te maken dat hij nooit de verkiezingen kan winnen en dat heeft alles te maken met het echt sociale beleid dat Corbyn voorstaat, ofwel Corbyn is simpelweg te links voor deze Labour politici…….. undercover reporter forAl
Jazeera previously
recorded resigning Blairite Joan Ryan smearing a critic of
Israel. And pro-Palestine advocacy groups accused Ryan
of ‘lying’ to damage the Labour member.
On
20 February, Ryan joined seven
other Labour and three Tory MPs in resigning from their respective
parties to join a new centrist parliamentary faction. And Ryan, chair
of the Labour Friends of Israel (LFI) pressure group, says she
resigned over a “scourge of anti-Jewish racism” that she claims
has “infected” Labour under Jeremy Corbyn.
Can
we trust Ryan?
Yet
undercover footage from the 2016 Labour Party conference brings
Ryan’s claim into serious question. And the footage comes in
addition to the context that:
Accusations of
antisemitism involve around 0.1% of Labour’s 540,000 strong
membership.
An
academic report found widespread
‘distorted, inaccurate and misleading’ coverage of Labour and
antisemitism across the corporate media.
Like
three oftheother resigned
Labour MPs, Ryan has lost a
non-binding no-confidence vote from local Labour members.
Al
Jazeera‘s
investigative documentary The
Lobby filmed
Ryan appearing to misrepresent comments from Labour member Jean
Fitzpatrick in order to accuse her of antisemitism.
Ryan claimed the
Labour member said that if you join Labour Friends of Israel, “you
get into Oxford or you get into working in the bank…”. And Ryan
concluded: “That’s antisemitic.”
But
the following undercover footage of the exchange, which leads to Ryan
accusing Fitzpatrick of antisemitism five minutes in, shows that the
Labour member did not mention banking:

Jazeera released
the documentary, Ryan stood by
her allegation:
It
is the duty of Labour Party members – whether in Parliament or at
the grassroots – to report language that they believe to be racist
or antisemitic. References to groups having ‘lots of money … lots
of prestige in the world’ and suggestions that they advance
people’s careers appeared to me to evoke classic antisemitic
tropes.
But
are there more fabrications from Ryan?
Upon
quitting, Ryan – who had multiple ministerial
roles under Tony Blair- also claimed that
she won her seat:
in
spite of [Mr Corbyn], not because of him. I didn’t win my seat on
his coat tails
But
the evidence suggests the opposite is true. In September 2018, a
YouGov poll found that
just 2% of Labour supporters voted for the party in 2017 because of
the local candidate. 83%, meanwhile, said they
voted for Labour either because of its policies or values. And under
Corbyn in 2017, Ryan saw her
majority increase by 14%. Nonetheless, Ryan and the other Blairites
have quit the party without calling a by-election to re-contest their
seats. Instead, it looks like they’ll simply sit in parliament on
their own terms rather than those they were elected on.
It
gets worse
In
June 2018, a letter from
the Labour Friends of Israel chair equated upholding “Palestinian
right of return” with antisemitism. Novara
Media senior
editor Ash Sarkar laid out
the problem with that:
Joan
Ryan in her letter to Jeremy Corbyn said that respecting Palestinian
right of return for five million Palestinian refugees is itself a
denial of the Jewish right of self-determination because it would no
longer be a Jewish majority state. The question I would put to other
people is do you think that’s antisemitism or do you think that’s
respecting UN General Assembly resolution 194?
refugees
wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their
neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable
date
Israel withholds the
right of indigenous Palestinians who were forced out of their
homeland to return. By contrast, Israel grants citizenship
to any Jewish person around the world.
Questions
surrounding Labour Friends of Israel
Five
of the eight quitting Labour MPs are supporters of
the Labour Friends of Israel pressure group. In the Al
Jazeera documentary,
a key Labour Friends of Israel officer admitted that
it works “really closely” with the Israeli embassy “behind the
scenes”. He continued:
It’s
just publicly we just try to keep the LFI as a separate identity to
the embassy.
These
revelations should have been enough for the Labour leadership to call
an inquiry into Labour Friends of Israel. Now a number of its key
members are splintering from Labour and launching yet more damaging
attacks on the Corbyn-led movement. And the corporate media is aiding
and abetting them through hiding the context that brings Ryan and the
other quitters’ accusations into serious question.
There’s
no place in the Labour party for apologists for
Israel’s apartheid,
occupation and systematic subjugation of
the Palestinian people. With that in mind, the phrase ‘good
riddance’ seems appropriate.

Moet je nagaan, het voorgaande nadat de VS de laatste 10

gestort met een smerige economische oorlog……..

was Omar onlangs al in opspraak over haar uitlatingen t.a.v. AIPAC**

Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is already back on the horse
aggressively disrupting the establishment

Abrams is a monster. The atrocities
that he has facilitated,
covered up and whitewashed in Panama, El
Salvador, Gaza, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Iraq are
utterly unforgivable, and the fact that he has been appointed
as special envoy to Venezuela by
the Trump administration completely invalidates the US government’s
Venezuela narrative all by itself. Even without the blatant
lies,

oil agendas,
the CIA

the mounting

history of utterly disastrous regime change interventionism, the fact
that this administration would appoint such a ghoulish individual to
spearhead its Venezuela interventionism alone is
enough to show you that the US government has nothing but malevolent
intentions for that nation.
So
it was nice to see someone in that government calling him what he is
right to his face in front of everybody.
At
a House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) hearing on US Venezuela policy,
Abrams was
presented with
the only line of questioning that is appropriate for such a beast by
the very congresswoman the Democrats threw to the wolves just two
days ago. Someone had to do it, and they left it to Ilhan Omar.
“In
1991, you pleaded guilty to two counts of withholding information
from Congress regarding your involvement in the Iran-Contra affair,
for which you were later pardoned by President George H.W. Bush,”
Omar accurately stated. “I fail to understand why members of this
committee, or the American people should find any testimony that you
give today to be truthful.”
“If
I could respond to that-” Abrams began.
“That
wasn’t a question,” Omar responded, cutting him off.
“It
was an attack! It was an attack!” Abrams exclaimed, visibly upset.
“I
reserve the right to my time,” said Omar.
“It
is not right that members of this Committee can attack a witness who
is not permitted to reply,” Abrams said, talking over Omar.
“That
was not a question; thank you for your participation,” Omar
continued. “On February 8th, 1982, you testified before the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee about US foreign policy in El Salvador.
In that hearing, you dismissed as communist propaganda a report about
the massacre of El Mozote of which more than 800 civilians, including
children as young as two years old, were brutally murdered by
U.S.-trained troops. During that massacre, some of those troops
bragged about raping 12 year-old girls before they killed them. You
later said that the U.S. policy in El Salvador was a ‘fabulous
achievement.’ Yes or no, do you still think so?”
“From
the day that President Duarte was elected in a free election, to this
day, El Salvador has been a democracy,” Abrams said angrily.
“That’s a fabulous achievement.”
“Yes
or no, do you think that massacre was a fabulous achievement that
happened under our watch?” Omar asked.
“That
is a ridiculous question and I will not respond to it,” Abrams
replied. “I’m sorry Mr. Chairman, I am not going to respond to
that kind of personal attack which is not a question.”
“I
will take that as a yes,” Omar said. “Yes or no, would you
support an armed faction within Venezuela that engages in war crimes,
crimes against humanity, or genocide if you believe they were serving
US interests as you did in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua?”
“I’m
not going to respond to that question,” Abrams again answered. “I’m
sorry, I don’t think this entire line of questioning is meant to be
real questions, and so I will not reply.”
“Whether
under your watch a genocide will take place, and you will look the
other way because American interests were being upheld is a fair
question,” Omar said. “Because the American people want to know
that any time we engage a country that we think about what our
actions could be and how we believe our values are being furthered.
That is my question: Will you make sure that human rights are not
violated and that we uphold international and human rights?”
“I
suppose there is a question in there, and the answer is that the
entire thrust of American policy in Venezuela is to support the
Venezuelan people’s effort to restore democracy to their country,”
Abrams responded. “That’s our policy.”
“I
don’t think anybody disputes that,” Omar said. “The question I
had for you is that does the interests of the United States include
protecting human rights and include protecting people against
genocide?”
“That
is always the
position of the United States,” Abrams lied.
“Thank
you,” concluded Omar. “I yield back the rest of my time.”
There
is no legitimate reason for Elliott Abrams to ever find himself
before a group of people who are ostensibly concerned with
accountability and responsibility without being asked such questions.
But that didn’t stop all the world’s worst people from crawling
out of the woodwork to his defense.

Abrams,” tweeted Iraq-raping
neocon Max Boot. “She doesn’t seem to realize he is a leading
advocate of human rights and democracy — not a promoter of
genocide! More evidence of the loony left I caution Democrats about.”

worked for Elliott Abrams as a civil servant,” tweeted Kelly
Magsamen, Vice President of National Security for
the plutocrat-backed
liberal think tank Center
for American Progress (CAP). “He is a fierce advocate for human rights
and democracy. Yes, he made serious professional mistakes and was
held accountable. I’m a liberal but I’m also fair. We all have a
lot of work to do together in Venezuela. We share goals.”
“I
am not greatly sympathetic to Rep. Omar (surprise
surprise),” tweetedNational
Review senior
editor and former George W Bush speech writer Jay Nordlinger. “But
really, someone ought to have given her a clue who Elliott Abrams is.
The guy has been championing freedom and human rights his entire life
(and taking unholy sh** for it from the illiberal Left and Right).”
Conservative
pundit Michael Knowles tossed his two cents into the campaign to
purge the concept of antisemitism of any meaning by tweeting,
“One wonders why @IlhanMN seems to harbor such particular contempt
for Elliott¹ Abrams² (¹ from the Hebrew ‘Elijah,’ meaning ‘My
God is Yahweh’ ² the father of the Jewish people).”
This
is the bipartisan establishment orthodoxy that is guiding your
foreign policy, America. One which claims Elliott Abrams is a saint,
which claims criticism of US warmongering is antisemitic, and which
throws a bold Somali-American woman under the bus for speaking the
truth after years of paying lip service to the need to get more women
of color elected to the leadership of the Democratic Party. This
whole Abrams incident happened, by the way, at the same time Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deleted
a tweet in
which he accidentally acknowledged the agenda to start a war with
Iran, but you probably won’t see Omar commenting on this because
she knows she’ll be smeared as an antisemite for it.
US
warmongering is the most aggressively protected part of the
establishment narrative matrix, because US warmongering is the glue
that holds the unipolar empire together. Without it, our rulers
cannot rule, so you’ll see imperial lackeys fiercely attacking
anyone who draws attention to America’s bloodbaths around the
world, even if they are good servants of the empire in other areas.
The
difficulty for our rulers, though, is that warmongering is a very
difficult thing to paint a pretty picture of, especially with our
newfound ability to quickly share ideas and information around the
globe. I mean, look at Elliott Abrams. Seriously, just watch
him talk.
That demonic grimace is the prettiest face they could find to put on
their Venezuela agenda. I find that very encouraging.
The
reason they work so hard to manufacture our consent for warmongering
agendas is because they need that
consent. They wouldn’t propagandize us so aggressively if they
didn’t need us all trusting them and believing their stories, so
the best way to fight establishment warmongering is to circulate
disbelief in their stories. Whenever you see someone like Ilhan Omar
drawing attention to the gaping plot holes in agendas like regime
change interventionism in Venezuela, go ahead and help draw attention
to it.
Things
are only shitty because a few extremely powerful people do very
shitty things. The only reason powerful people get away with doing
very shitty things is because the majority allows them to. The
majority only allows them to because they’ve been propagandized to.
The weakest link in this chain is the propaganda. Attack there.

bericht waardoor ik weer eens van m’n stoel flikkerde toen ik het
las: diverse ‘job centres’ van het Department for Work and Pensions
(DWP) in GB weigeren klanten een bewijs te geven waarmee de voedselbank
weet dat deze mensen recht op die hulp hebben (dus geen voedselbonnen
zoals in de VS, maar een systeem dat wij, als ik me niet vergis, ook
hanteren)…..
Volgens
het DWP is haar organisatie niet verantwoordelijk voor deze verwijzingen…….
Lees dit ontluisterende verhaal van kafkaiaanse proporties, een artikel van

ijskoude inhumane neoliberalisme toe leidt….. Vergeet voorts niet
dat in Groot-Brittannië 4 miljoen kinderen dagelijks met honger naar
school gaan en (als ze geluk hebben) daar eten krijgen….. Het aantal mensen dat afhankelijk is van voedselbanken in GB is vorig jaar met maar liefst 13% gestegen…….
Intussen onder al weer 9 jaar ijskoud en inhumaan neoliberaal Tory bewind, is er zwaar bezuinigd op de subsidie voor organisaties die zich met hulp aan de arme Britten bezighouden en deze mensen kunnen voorzien van een bewijs dat ze voedselhulp nodig hebben. Niet vreemd dus dat deze organisaties ook vanwege de stijging van het aantal te helpen mensen, het werk niet meer aan kunnen……
De regering
weigert de ouders die in diepe armoede zitten te helpen, zodat de kinderen zonder honger naar school kunnen gaan (en deze ouders wel met honger blijven zitten..)…. Het argument daarvoor? Extra geld zouden deze ouders niet aan voedsel
besteden, ofwel ze kunnen doodvallen, 2 vliegen in 1 klap (weg
armoezaaier en geen extra hulp meer nodig…)…. De kinderen krijgen op school te eten en je snapt dat dit voor veel van die kinderen een trauma is, niet in de laatste plaats omdat ze vanwege hun armoede worden gepest door hun medeleerlingen…..
Dit is geen Dickens verhaal uit de 19de eeuw, maar is er één uit de eenentwintigste eeuw…… Is het niet om
te janken??!!! De Britse regering zou moeten worden vervolgd voor poging tot doodslag en het op grote schaal schenden van mensen- en kinderrechten!!
The
DWP’s latest savage move could leave more people starving
New
evidence has emerged to
show that the DWP has
enacted yet another savage move. A job centre in East Sussex refused
to give people foodbank referrals. If replicated in other areas, the
implications of this are devastating for some of the most vulnerable
people in the UK.
“Destitute”
On
5 February, Lewes
Eyereported that
the DWP “banned local job centre staff from referring people to
foodbanks for emergency food supplies” in Lewis, East Sussex. It
printed a leaked email from Lewis job centre that stated:
“We
have been advised that DWP policy does not permit Jobcentres to refer
customers to food banks by issuing vouchers or referral forms.”
The
email said that
the job centre would “verbally signpost” people to other
agencies. According to Lewis
Eye,
the job centre told people “to go to the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) or
similar agencies”. As it pointed out, the implications of this
are huge, because people claiming benefits could be “left
destitute” if payments are delayed. As Universal
Credit rolls
out across the UK, foodbank use
is soaring. Since September 2018, over “1,000
people” now receive the controversial benefit in Lewes. As the
Trussell Trust reported:
“On
average, 12 months after rollout, foodbanks see a 52% increase in
demand, compared to 13% in areas with Universal Credit for 3 months
or less”.
According
to Lewis
Eye, foodbanks in
the area confirmed that
referrals stopped. It formed a clear conclusion about this, alleging:
“the
DWP is doing this because the government is frightened that
campaigners will be able to show that benefit cuts and the new
Universal Credit are driving people into destitution.”
“Slipping
through the net”
The Independent also spoke to
foodbank volunteers in Lewes. They confirmed these
allegations. Debbie Twitchen from Landport Foodbank in Lewes
said:
she
believed it was a way for the DWP to “hide that people are going
hungry and needing food banks” due to “failures in the system”,
and added: “I know that it’s an obvious ploy – if you can’t
show figures for something then it’s not happening is it?
Twitchen said she
feared this situation meant some people would start “slipping
through the net”.
According
to the Independent,
a DWP spokesperson claimed that
foodbank referral policy “had not changed”:
Jobcentres
will signpost people to food banks and other services according to
their individual circumstances, as part of their support to help
people manage their finances and get into work.
Deeper
issues
Thankfully,
this doesn’t (yet) seem to be national policy. However, The
Canary contacted
national foodbank network Trussell Trust about this issue. Its
response suggests that this mightnot
be an isolated incident. It said:
There
is still a very mixed picture reported by food banks about their
relationships with jobcentres,
As
a result, the foodbank network is working “to gather more
information” about the picture across the UK. Trussell
Trust told The
Canary its
two main concerns are:
How
do we make sure that someone facing hunger right now is able to
access the best possible support as quickly as possible.
How
do we move towards a future where people don’t need to be referred
to a foodbank in the first place.
Hunger
games
Yet
under the Conservatives, it seems unlikely that foodbank use will
drop. As The
Canarypreviouslyreported,
the impact of austerity alongside
the rollout of Universal
Credit is
devastating, forcing more people than ever to use foodbanks. In
2018, demand rose by 13%.
As The
Canary also reported,
in January, a Commons select committee report condemned the
Conservative government’s failure to “recognise and respond
to the issues of hunger, malnutrition, and obesity in the UK”.
Pointing to rising levels of food
poverty –
particularly for children – it made a damning recommendation: to
appoint a minister for hunger to deal with the spiralling crisis.
If
this does become national policy, it also poses another serious
issue. Foodbanks work with
“frontline professionals, such as doctors, health visitors, social
workers and the Citizens Advice”. These are the “other
agencies” who can also make foodbank referrals. But nine years of
Tory-led austerity means
that these services are stretched to breaking point already. Citizens
Advice Bureau (CAB) for example, first reported on
the impact of funding cuts in 2011. By 2017, a government
response stated that
68 CAB branches had closed since 2012.
It’s
shocking that people need to use foodbanks in the first place. But
for the DWP to make it even more difficult for vulnerable people to
eat is simply unforgivable.

30 years ago today in Venezuela: the mass rebellion against neoliberalism known as the Caracazo, which ended in the massacre of 300 to 3,000, most dumped in mass graves. Today, neoliberals claim the mantle of human rights as they try to do the same. Never forget!
