Capitol Hill bestorming: leugens in de massamedia

Glenn Greenwald heeft een lijvig stuk (iets te, m.i.) geschreven over de
bestorming van Capitol Hill afgelopen 6 januari en dan m.n. over de moord op
een politieagent met een brandblusser, plus de rol die de media
daarin spelen. Uiteraard veroordeelt Greenwald het gebruikte geweld,
echter er dient wel gekeken te worden wie de slachtoffers waren…..

Greenwald stelt dat elke
kritiek die men levert op de berichtgeving over wat
er al meer dan een maand lang werd geschreven, wordt of afgedaan als een excuus voor
de bestorming van Capitol Hill, dan wel je bent een aanhanger van de
Trump supporters……

In
tegenspraak met de berichtgeving, werden 4 van de 5 doden niet om het
leven gebracht door de relschoppers, terwijl de enige dode die met
geweld om het leven werd gebracht een ongewapende Trump
supporter was: Ashli Babbitt, die van dichtbij door de
politie werd neergeschoten ofwel vermoord……

Echter
niet volgens de media in de VS, die kennen nog een dode, politieagent
Brian Sicknick, de New York Times (NYT) was het eerste medium dat met
het verhaal kwam dat Sicknick werd vermoord met een brandblusser en
dan natuurlijk door een Trump aanhanger……

Echter
tot op de dag van vandaag is er geen autopsie uitgevoerd op het
lichaam van Sicknick en ondanks dat er gigantische veel beelden zijn
‘geschoten’ door veiligheidscamera’s en smartphones, is er niet één
beeld dat het verhaal van de NYT bevestigt…… Uhh van de NYT? Al
heel snel na het artikel van dat nieuwsmedium nam zo ongeveer de hele
reguliere (massa-) media in de VS dit verhaal over en hoe…….. De
hysterie was en is nog steeds compleet over dit valse verhaal…..

Je
kan er dan ook donder op zeggen dat dit is ingegeven door de
politiek, immers e.e.a. gebeurde nog voor de impeachment poging tegen
Trump….. Tja kijk, als je met een vermoorde politieagent op de
proppen komt krijgt zo’n zaak natuurlijk veel meer gewicht……

Eén ding is zeker, deze rellen werden vooral aangegrepen door de Democraten in een poging Trump een impeachment te bezorgen zodat hij in de toekomst niet nog eens kan opgaan voor het presidentschap (en zo’n impeachment kan wel degelijk worden doorgezet nadat de nieuwe president is aangetreden).

What took place
at the Capitol on January 6 was undoubtedly a politically motivated
riot. As such, it should not be controversial to regard it as a
dangerous episode. Any time force or violence is introduced into what
ought to be the peaceful resolution of political conflicts, it should
be lamented and condemned.

But none of that
justifies lying about what happened that day, especially by the news
media. Condemning that riot does not allow, let alone require,
echoing false claims in order to render the event more menacing and
serious than it actually was. There is no circumstance or motive that
justifies the dissemination of false claims by journalists. The more
consequential the event, the less justified, and more harmful, serial
journalistic falsehoods are.

Yet this is exactly
what has happened, and continues to happen, since that riot almost
seven weeks ago. And anyone who tries to correct these falsehoods is
instantly attacked with the cynical accusation that if you want only
truthful reporting about what happened, then you’re trying to
“minimize” what happened and are likely an apologist for if not a
full-fledged supporter of the protesters themselves.

One of the most
significant of these falsehoods was the tale — endorsed over and
over without any caveats by the media for more than a month — that
Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick was murdered by the pro-Trump
mob when they beat him to death with a fire extinguisher. That claim
was first published by The
New York Times
on January 8 in an
article headlined “Capitol Police Officer Dies From Injuries in
Pro-Trump Rampage.” It cited “two [anonymous] law enforcement
officials” to claim that Sicknick died “with the mob rampaging
through the halls of Congress” and after he “was struck with a
fire extinguisher.”

A second New
York Times
article
from later that day — bearing the more dramatic headline: “He
Dreamed of Being a Police Officer, Then Was Killed by a Pro-Trump
Mob” — elaborated
on that story:

The

After
publication of these two articles, this horrifying story about a
pro-Trump mob beating a police officer to death with a fire
extinguisher was repeated over and over, by multiple journalists on
television, in print, and on social media. It became arguably the
single most-emphasized and known story of this event, and
understandably so — it was a savage and barbaric act that resulted
in the harrowing killing by a pro-Trump mob of a young Capitol police
officer.

It
took on such importance for a clear reason: Sicknick’s death was
the only
example the media had of the pro-Trump mob deliberately killing
anyone. In a January 11 article
detailing the five people who died on the day of the Capitol protest,
the New
York Times again
told the Sicknick story: “Law enforcement officials said he had
been ‘physically engaging with protesters’ and was struck in the
head with a fire extinguisher.”

But none of the other
four deaths were at the hands of the protesters: the only other
person killed with deliberate violence was a pro-Trump protester,
Ashli Babbitt, unarmed when shot in the neck by a police officer at
close range. The other three deaths were all pro-Trump protesters:
Kevin Greeson, who died of a heart attack outside the Capitol;
Benjamin Philips, 50, “the founder of a pro-Trump website called
Trumparoo,” who died of a stroke that day; and Rosanne Boyland, a
fanatical Trump supporter whom the Times
says was inadvertently “killed in a crush of fellow rioters during
their attempt to fight through a police line.”

This is why the fire
extinguisher story became so vital to those intent on depicting these
events in the most violent and menacing light possible. Without
Sicknick having his skull bashed in with a fire extinguisher, there
were no
deaths
that day that could be attributed to deliberate violence by pro-Trump
protesters. Three weeks later, The
Washington Post
said
dozens of officers (a total of 140) had various degrees of injuries,
but none reported as life-threatening, and at least two police
officers committed suicide after the riot. So Sicknick was the only
person killed who was not a pro-Trump protester, and the only one
deliberately killed by the mob itself.

It is hard to
overstate how pervasive this fire extinguisher story became. Over and
over, major media outlets and mainstream journalists used this story
to dramatize what happened:

Television hosts
gravely intoned when telling this story, manipulating viewers’
emotions by making them believe the mob had done something
unspeakably barbaric:

After the media
bombarded Americans with this story for a full month without pause,
it took center stage at Trump’s impeachment process. As former
federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy noted,
the article of impeachment itself stated that “Trump supporters
‘injured and killed law enforcement personnel.’” The House
impeachment managers explicitly claimed on page 28 of their
pretrial memorandum that “the insurrectionists killed a Capitol
Police officer by striking him in the head with a fire extinguisher.”

Once the impeachment
trial ended in an acquittal, President Joe Biden issued a statement
and referenced this claim in the very first paragraph. Sicknick, said
the President, lost “his life while protecting the Capitol from a
violent, riotous mob on January 6, 2021.”

The problem
with this story
is that it is false in all respects. From the start, there was almost
no evidence to substantiate it. The only basis were the two original
New
York Times
articles asserting that this happened based on the claim of anonymous
law enforcement officials.

Despite this alleged
brutal murder taking place in one of the most surveilled buildings on
the planet, filled that day with hundreds of cellphones taping the
events, nobody saw video of it. No photographs depicted it. To this
day, no autopsy report has been released. No details from any
official source have been provided.

Not only was there no
reason to believe this happened from the start, the little that was
known should have caused doubt. On the same day the Times
published
its two articles with the “fire extinguisher” story, ProPublica
published
one that should have raised serious doubts about it.

The outlet interviewed
Sicknick’s brother, who said that “Sicknick had texted [the
family] Wednesday night to say that while he had been pepper-sprayed,
he was in good spirits.” That obviously conflicted with the Times’
story that the mob “overpowered Sicknick” and “struck him in
the head with a fire extinguisher,” after which, “with a bloody
gash in his head, Mr. Sicknick was rushed to the hospital and placed
on life support.”

But no matter. The
fire extinguisher story was now a matter of lore. Nobody could
question it. And nobody did: until after a February 2 CNN
article
that asked why nobody has been arrested for what clearly was the most
serious crime committed that day: the brutal murder of Officer
Sicknick with a fire extinguisher. Though the headline gave no hint
of this, the middle of the article provided evidence which
essentially declared the original New
York Times
story false:

In Sicknick’s
case, it’s still not known publicly what caused him to collapse the
night of the insurrection. Findings from a medical examiner’s review
have not yet been released and authorities have not made any
announcements about that ongoing process.

According to
one law enforcement official, medical examiners did not find signs
that the officer sustained any blunt force trauma, so investigators
believe that early
reports that he was fatally struck by a fire extinguisher are not
true.

The CNN story
speculates that perhaps Sicknick inhaled “bear spray,” but like
the ProPublica
interview
with his brother who said he inhaled pepper spray, does not say
whether it came from the police or protesters. It is also just a
theory. CNN
noted that investigators are “vexed by a lack of evidence that
could prove someone caused his death as he defended the Capitol
during last month’s insurrection.” Beyond that, “to date, little
information has been shared publicly about the circumstances of the
death of the 13-year veteran of the police force, including any
findings from an autopsy that was conducted by DC’s medical
examiner.”

Few noticed this
remarkable admission buried in this article. None of this was
seriously questioned until a relatively new outlet called Revolver
News on
February 9 compiled
and analyzed all the contradictions and lack of evidence in the
prevailing story, after which Fox
News’
Tucker Carlson, citing that article, devoted the first eight minutes
of his February 10 program to examining
these massive evidentiary holes.

That caused right-wing
media outlets to begin questioning what happened, but mainstream
liberal outlets — those who spread the story aggressively in the
first place — largely and predictably ignored it all.

This week, the paper
that first published the false story — in lieu of a retraction or
an explanation of how and why it got the story wrong — simply went
back to the first two articles, more than five weeks later, and
quietly posted what it called an “update” at the top of both
five-week-old articles:

With the impeachment
trial now over, the articles are now rewritten to reflect that the
original story was false. But there was nothing done by The
New York Times to
explain an error of this magnitude, let alone to try to undo the
damage it did by misleading the public. They did not expressly
retract or even “correct” the story. Worse, there is at least one
article of theirs, the January
11 one that purports to describe how the five people died that
day, which continues to include the false “fire extinguisher”
story with no correction or update.

The fire
extinguisher tale
was far from the only false or dubious claim that the media caused to
circulate about the events that day. In some cases, they continue to
circulate them.

In the days after the
protest, numerous
viral
tweets
pointed to a photograph of Eric Munchel with zip-ties. The photo was
used continually to suggest
that he took those zip-ties into
the Capitol because of a premeditated
plot to detain lawmakers and hold them hostage.
Politico
described
Munchel as “the man who allegedly entered the Senate chamber during
the Capitol riot while carrying a taser and zip-tie handcuffs.”

The Washington
Post
used the images to refer
to “chatters in far-right forums explicitly discussing how to storm
the building, handcuff lawmakers with zip ties.” That the zip-tie
photo of Munchel made the Capitol riot far more than a mere riot
carried out by a band of disorganized misfits, but rather a nefarious
and well-coordinated plot to kidnap members of Congress, became
almost as widespread
as the fire extinguisher story. Yet again, it was The
New York Times
that led the way in consecrating maximalist claims. “FBI Arrests
Man Who Carried Zip Ties Into Capitol,” blared
the paper’s headline on January 10, featuring the now-iconic photo
of Munchel at the top.

But on January 21, the
“zip-tie man’s” own prosecutors admitted
none of that was true. He did not take zip-ties with him from home or
carry them into the Capitol. Instead, he found them on a table, and
took them to prevent their use by the police:

Eric Munchel,
a pro-Trump rioter who stormed the Capitol building while holding
plastic handcuffs, took the restraints from a table inside the
Capitol building, prosecutors
said in a court filing Wednesday.

Munchel, who
broke into the building with his mom, was labeled “zip-tie
guy” after he was photographed barreling down the Senate chamber
holding the restraints. His appearance raised questions about whether
the insurrectionists who sought to stop Congress from counting
Electoral College votes on January 6 also intended to take lawmakers
hostage.

But according
to the new filing, Munchel and his mother took the handcuffs from
within the Capitol building – apparently to ensure the Capitol Police
couldn’t use them on the insurrectionists – rather than bring them in
when they initially breached the building.

(A second man whose
photo with zip-ties later surfaced similarly
told Ronan Farrow that he found them on the floor, and the FBI
has acknowledged
it has no evidence to the contrary).

Why does this matter?
For the same reason media outlets so excitedly seized on this claim.
If Munchel had brought zip-ties with him, that would be suggestive of
a premeditated plot to detain people: quite terrorizing, as it
suggests malicious and well-planned intent. But he instead just found
them on a table by happenstance and, according
to his own prosecutors,
grabbed them with benign intent.

Then, perhaps most
importantly, is the ongoing insistence on calling the Capitol riot an
armed
insurrection.
Under the law, an insurrection is one of the most serious crises that
can arise. It allows virtually
unlimited presidential powers — which is why there was so much
angst when Tom Cotton proposed it in his New
York Times
op-ed over the summer, publication of which resulted in the departure
of two editors. Insurrection even allows for the suspension
by the president of habeas corpus: the right to be heard in court if
you are detained.

So it matters a great
deal legally, but also politically, if the U.S. really did suffer an
armed insurrection and continues to face one. Though there is no
controlling, clear definition, that term usually connotes not a
three-hour riot but an ongoing, serious plot by a faction of the
citizenry to overthrow or otherwise subvert the government.

Just today, PolitiFact
purported
to “fact-check” a statement from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) made on
Monday. Sen. Johnson told a local radio station:

“The
fact of the matter is this didn’t seem like an armed insurrection
to me. I mean armed, when you hear armed, don’t you think of
firearms? Here’s the questions I would have liked to ask. How many
firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired? I’m only
aware of one, and I’ll defend that law enforcement officer for
taking that shot.

The fact-checking site
assigned the Senator its “Pants on Fire” designation for that
statement, calling it “ridiculous revisionist history.” But the
“fact-checkers” cannot refute a single claim he made. At least
from what is known publicly, there is no evidence of a single
protester wielding let alone using a firearm inside the Capitol on
that day. As indicated, the only person to have been shot was a
pro-Trump protester killed by a Capitol police officer, and the only
person said to have been killed by the protesters, Officer Sicknick,
died under circumstances that are still completely unclear.

That protesters were
found before and after the riot with weapons does not mean they
intended to use them as part of the protest. For better or worse, the
U.S. is a country where firearm possession is common and legal. And
what we know for certain is that there is no evidence of anyone
brandishing a gun in that building. That fact makes a pretty large
dent in the attempt to characterize this as an “armed insurrection”
rather than a riot.

Indeed, the most
dramatic claims spread by the media to raise fear levels as high as
possible and depict this as a violent insurrection have turned out to
be unfounded or were affirmatively disproven.

On January 15, Reuters
published
an article about the arrest of the “Q-Shaman,” Jacob Chansley,
headlined “U.S. says Capitol rioters meant to ‘capture and
assassinate’ officials.” It claimed that “federal prosecutors
offered an ominous new assessment of last week’s siege of the U.S.
Capitol by President Donald Trump’s supporters on Thursday, saying
in a court filing that rioters intended ‘to capture and assassinate
elected officials.’” Predictably, that caused viral social media
postings from mainstream
reporters and prominent pundits, such as Harvard Law’s Laurence
Tribe, manifesting in the most ominous tones possible:

Shortly thereafter,
however, a
DOJ “official walked back a federal claim that Capitol rioters
‘intended capture and assassinate elected officials.’”
Specifically, “Washington’s acting U.S. Attorney, Michael Sherwin,
said in a telephone briefing, ‘There is no direct evidence at this
point of kill-capture teams and assassination.’”

Over and over, no
evidence has emerged for the most melodramatic media claims — torn
out Panic Buttons and plots to kill Vice President Mike Pence or
Mitt
Romney. What we know for certain, as The
Washington Post
noted
this week, is that “Despite
warnings of violent plots around Inauguration Day, only
a smattering of right-wing protesters appeared at the
nation’s statehouses.” That does not sound like an ongoing
insurrection, to put it mildly.

All this matters
because it inherently matters if the media is recklessly circulating
falsehoods about the most inflammatory and significant news stories.
As was true for their series of Russiagate
debacles, even if each “mistake” standing alone can be
dismissed as relatively insignificant or understandable, when they
pile up — always in the same narrative direction — people rightly
conclude the propaganda is deliberate and trust in journalism erodes
further.

But in this case, this
matters for reasons far more significant than corporate media’s
attempt to salvage the last vestiges of their credibility.
Washington, D.C. remains indefinitely militarized. The establishment
wings of both parties are still exploiting the emotions surrounding
the Capitol breach to justify a new domestic War on Terror. The FBI
is on
the prowl for dissidents on the right and the left, and online
censorship in the name of combatting domestic terrorism continues to
rise.

One can — and should
— condemn the January 6 riot without inflating the threat it posed.
And one can — and should — insist on both factual accuracy and
sober restraint without standing accused of sympathy for the rioters.

De BBC heeft een onderzoek gedaan naar politiegeweld in Brazilië en dan m.n. in de provincie Rio de Janeiro. De uitkomst werd gisteren bekendgemaakt en daaruit blijkt dat een gekleurde jongere (m) 5 keer meer kans loopt om doodgeschoten te worden door de politie, dan witte leeftijdsgenoten…..

Tekenend in het BBC programma onderdeel is het verhaal over een (ongewapende) gekleurde jongen van 14 die door de politie binnenshuis werd doodgeschoten tijdens een inval, in de ruimte waar de jongen werd vermoord werden houd je vast 70 kogelinslagen van de politie aangetroffen, terwijl er geen wapens of drugs van derden in het pand aanwezig waren…….

De moord op de jongen is van meer dan een half jaar geleden en tot nu toe is er niets uit een ‘politieonderzoek’ naar de zaak boven water gekomen….. Het werd er niet bijverteld, maar reken gerust dat de verantwoordelijke politiemoordenaars nog steeds in dienst zijn, waarbij de kans groot is dat ze nog meer jongeren hebben vermoord…… Volgens zeggen zou de politie van Rio kinderen zelfs gebruiken als doel voor schietoefeningen……

In 2019 werd bekend gemaakt dat de politie van Rio de Janeiro per dag 5 mensen vermoordt en in 2015 vermoordde de politie in de staat met diezelfde naam 8.000 mensen….. Terwijl men stelt dat het geweld van de politie de afgelopen jaren flink is toegenomen……. Uiteraard heeft dit alles te maken met de fascistische Braziliaanse president Bolsonaro te maken, die
bij aantreden de politie gelastte (nog) harder op te treden ‘tegen
misdaad’, echter dat ontslaat een agent niet van diens
verantwoordelijkheid iedereen te beschermen, al zal die riedel in
Brazilië al lang geleden een zachte dood zijn gestorven…… (de politie is als het leger in Brazilië vergeven van psychopathische fascisten)

Niet voor niets waren de meeste mensen die de politie vermoorde
ongewapend en als de politie in de VS gebruikt die in Brazilië een groot
aantal schoten om iemand ‘om te leggen’, veel slachtoffers hebben
meerdere schotwonden en dat blijft niet bij 2 of 3 kogels………

In plaats van artsen en verpleegkundigen te sturen naar de arme buurten en favela’s, wordt de politie gestuurd en tijdens de eerste Coronagolf werden er zoals gezegd gemiddeld elke dag 5 mensen doodgeschoten door de politie…… Alleen in April dit jaar schoot de politie van de staat Rio de Janeiro 177 mensen dood…….. Ofwel het aantal van 5 doden per dag is intussen overtroffen……. Het is zelfs zo dat het politiegeweld dit jaar het hoogst is sinds men 20 jaar geleden begon deze cijfers bij te houden (moet je nagaan dat men dit eerder zelfs niet nodig vond, blijkbaar zag en ziet men de arme bevolking niet als mensen, armen vormen de bevolkingsgroep onder wie het gros van de slachtoffers zijn te betreuren……)……

Koning Willem Alexander heeft het volk oudejaarsavond laten zien dat hij met z’n molières in de blubber staat

In het Radio1 nieuws van 3.00 u. nieuwjaarsdag het bericht dat ‘koning’ Willem Alexander de voorafgaande avond op ‘werkbezoek’ (ha! ha! ha!) was geweest in het Westeinde ziekenhuis, bedoeld werd: HMC Haaglanden locatie Westeinde, maar die naam wordt pas zo’n 10 jaar gebruikt dus dat kan de NOS nieuwsredactie nog niet weten, dat duurt nog minstens 2 jaar.

Met extra lang colbert zodat het niet opvalt dat ‘onze koning’ een dikkerd is

Willem Alexander bezocht het ziekenhuis om te zien hoe het daar ging op de eerste hulp (dit i.v.m. vuurwerkslachtoffers) ‘voorts beloofde hij de verpleegkundigen voor 2021 een loonsverhoging van 5%, zei zich tevens al in te zetten bij Rutte voor een drastische verlaging van de huren en voor het stabiliseren van de huizenprijs na een fikse afwaardering daarvan tot een normaal niveau…..’ Ja ja, niet mis hè?

Daarna bezocht W.A. nog politiebureau Hoefkade om de agenten daar even te laten zien dat hij ook zonder laarzen maar met z’n molières in de bagger kan staan…… Volgens nog onbevestigde berichten hebben daarna een aantal agenten hun ontslag ingediend, om te zien of ook zij via een andere, wat minder legale manier, rijk kunnen worden…..

En dat op oudejaarsavond, terwijl Bea en de kinderen zich verbeten in de krentenbollen……. Nee het is duidelijk, die Willem Alexander doet wel wat voor zijn meer dan belachelijk hoge uitkering en geen UWV of sociale dienst medewerker zal het in de oliebol halen om te gaan controleren of W.A. wat bijverdiend, bijvoorbeeld als mislukt huizenspeculant………. (benieuwd trouwens wat er op zijn bankafschrift staat als instantie die de uitkering overmaakt, ik wed zomaar dat dit niet het UWV of de sociale dienst is)

Geheel toevallig stond er een klein legertje aan journalisten zodat ze heel Nederland konden laten zien ‘hoe hard’ de koning ‘wel niet’ werkt…….

Blijkbaar is de populariteit van Willem Alexander naar een dergelijk laag minimum gezakt, dat deze poppenkast moest worden opgevoerd (al zijn de cijfers die over die populariteit worden gegeven altijd bijzonder ver naast de waarheid….)……

2020 het jaar dat de vrijheidsboom in brand werd gestoken

John
Whitehead heeft een artikel geschreven waarin hij betoogt dat 2020
het jaar is waarin de overheid (beter: overheden) de definitieve stap
heeft gezet om onze vrijheid af te nemen. Hij begint met een mooie
uitspraak van John Lennon waarin deze betoogt dat mensen niet bewust
leven, niet opgeleid zijn om te beseffen dat ze macht hebben. Het
systeem werkt zo dat iedereen gelooft dat de overheid alles zal
oplossen. Eindigend met : “Wij zijn de regering” (als we dat willen,
Ap).

Nog even
het volgende : vergeet niet dat de situatie in de VS, waarover
Whitehead spreekt, in feite nog een stuk erger is dan hier, hoewel we
in sneltreinvaart achter de VS aangaan en en paar zaken die Whitehead
aanhaalt zal je ongetwijfeld zelf al hebben bemerkt in ons land, of
welk land dan ook waar je woont, waar je leeft.

Volkomen
terecht merkt Whitehead op dat 2020 ‘een vreselijk, verschrikkelijk
slecht jaar was voor vrijheid’, waar dit jaar ‘een optelsom was van het
laatste vreselijke, verschrikkelijk slechte decennium voor
ons aller vrijheid…….’

Corruptie
op regeringsniveau (hier beter verborgen, maar aanwijsbaar bestaand), tirannie en misbruik, gemixt met een Big Brother weet
alles mentaliteit, samen met de COVID-19 ‘pandemie’ hebben deze zaken ons op
‘warpsnelheid’* gebracht in de richting van een politiestaat, aldus
Whitehead. Daarna noemt hij een aantal zaken die nu al als normaal
worden gezien in de VS: hele staten die op slot zijn gegaan middels
een lockdown, enorm uitgebreide bewaking (van alles en iedereen),
veel fouilleringen langs de kant van de weg, politiemoorden op
meerdere ongewapende burgers, censuur, arrestaties als vergelding,
het criminaliseren van tot nu toe gewoon geoorloofde zaken,
oorlogshitserij, het ‘oneindig vasthouden’ van mensen (bijvoorbeeld
ook in Nederland als het gaat om vluchtelingen), overvallen door arrestatieteams, het in beslag
nemen van zaken (door de politie en/of deurwaarder ), politiegeweld,
winstmakende privé gevangenissen (die in de VS zelfs aan de beurs
zijn genoteerd….) en alom aanwezige corruptie, zelfs in het Witte Huis……

Terecht
is volgens Whitehead het voorgaande een waslijst aan vergrijpen >>
die wreed, brutaal, immoreel, ongrondwettig en onacceptabel zijn.
Zaken waarmee de regering de laatste 2 decennia en zeker het laatste
jaar het volk heeft belast……

Door
de Coronacrisis zijn een aantal van onze burgerrechten gesneuveld, we zouden die terugkrijgen zo werd beloofd, echter de geschiedenis laat zien dat
regeringen, ook in ons land, zaken van dergelijke omvang (ook qua
lengte in tijd) niet snel of helemaal niet terugdraaien. Immers zaken
als ons recht op privacy waren we al bijna kwijt voor de Coronacrisis
en daar blijft nu bijna helemaal niets van over en uiteraard is dat
een geschenk voor
diezelfde overheid, politie en geheime diensten waarmee de schending van ook andere burgerrechten heel makkelijk wordt gemaakt**.

Verder
is het ons een stuk moeilijker gemaakt om ons voor één doel te
verenigen, niet alleen dat: zelfs als zou je daadwerkelijk
verzetsdaden willen verrichten is dat door de enorme controle en de
meer dan schandelijke spoedwet een heel stuk moeilijker geworden en
voor velen zelfs onmogelijk…….

Whitehead
gaat uitvoerig in op een aantal onderwerpen, zoals het onvermogen van
de overheid om ons leven, onze vrijheid en ons geluk te beschermen.
Ook schenkt hij aandacht aan het feit dat de opvolgende presidenten in de VS zich meer en
meer gedragen als een keizer van een imperium (nu moet ik zeggen dat
dit al heel lang het geval is in het hysterische VS, het geschreeuw,
gefluit en applaus alsof de president van de VS een beroemde popster
is, hier zie je dat trouwens ook bij een figuur als de GroenLinks
oplichter Jessias Klaver……). En vergeet niet dat de VS in feite als het Vierde Rijk kan worden gezien…… Verder noemt Whitehead de
gemilitariseerde politie in de VS, een macht op zich, die de bevolking terroriseert en beschikt over wapentuig dat op het
slagveld thuishoort…… Ook lijkt het wel of de politie in de VS
willekeurig mensen neerschiet, willekeurige arrestaties uitvoert en mensen fouilleert waarbij ‘de zoektocht’ zelfs doorgaat tot in
het lichaam……..

Clearing House en zegt het voort, de zaken die Whitehead noemt kunnen
hier zomaar over een paar jaar worden doorgevoerd en een paar van die
zaken kennen we hier al…. In een volledige politiestaat leven is

“Information
Clearing House”
– No doubt about it: 2020—a terrible, horrible, no good, very
bad year for freedom—was the culmination of a terrible, horrible,
no good, very bad decade for freedom.

Government corruption,
tyranny, and abuse coupled with a Big Brother-knows-best mindset and
the COVID-19 pandemic propelled us at warp speed towards a full-blown
police state in which nationwide lockdowns, egregious surveillance,
roadside strip searches, police shootings of unarmed citizens,
censorship, retaliatory arrests, the criminalization of lawful
activities, warmongering, indefinite detentions, SWAT team raids,
asset forfeiture, police brutality, profit-driven prisons, and
pay-to-play politicians were accepted as the norm.

Here’s just a small
sampling of the laundry list of abuses—cruel, brutal, immoral,
unconstitutional and unacceptable—that have been heaped upon us by
the government over the past two decades and in the past year, in
particular.

The government
failed to protect our lives, liberty and happiness.
The predators of the police state wreaked havoc on our freedoms, our
communities, and our lives. The government didn’t listen to the
citizenry, refused to abide by the Constitution, and treated the
citizenry as a source of funding and little else. Police officers
shot unarmed citizens and their household pets. Government
agents—including local police—were armed to the teeth and
encouraged to act like soldiers on a battlefield. Bloated government
agencies were allowed to fleece taxpayers. Government technicians
spied on our emails and phone calls. And government contractors made
a killing by waging endless wars abroad.

The American
President became more imperial.
Although the Constitution invests the President with very specific,
limited powers, in recent years, American presidents (Trump, Obama,
Bush, Clinton, etc.) claimed the power to completely and almost
unilaterally alter the landscape of this country for good or for ill.
The powers that have been amassed by each successive president
through the negligence of Congress and the courts—powers which add
up to a toolbox of terror for an imperial ruler—empower whoever
occupies the Oval Office to act as a dictator, above the law and
beyond any real accountability. The presidency itself has become an
imperial one with permanent powers.

Militarized
police became a power unto themselves, 911 calls turned deadly, and
traffic stops took a turn for the worse. Lacking
in transparency and accountability, protected by the courts and
legislators, and rife with misconduct, America’s police forces
continued to be a menace to the citizenry and the rule of law.
Despite concerns about the government’s steady transformation of
local police into a standing military army, local police agencies
acquired
even more weaponry, training and equipment suited for the
battlefield. Police officers were also given free range to pull
anyone over for a variety of reasons and subject them to forced
cavity searches, forced colonoscopies, forced blood draws, forced
breath-alcohol tests, forced DNA extractions, forced eye scans,
forced inclusion in biometric databases.

The courts
failed to uphold justice.
With every ruling handed down, it becomes more apparent that we live
in an age of hollow justice, with government courts more concerned
with protecting government agents than upholding the rights of “we
the people.” This is true at all levels of the judiciary, but
especially so in the highest court of the land, the U.S. Supreme
Court, which is seemingly more concerned with establishing order and
protecting government agents than with upholding the rights enshrined
in the Constitution. A review of critical court rulings over the past
two decades, including some ominous ones by the U.S. Supreme Court,
reveals a startling and steady trend towards pro-police state rulings
by an institution concerned more with establishing order and
protecting the ruling class and government agents than with upholding
the rights enshrined in the Constitution.

COVID-19
allowed the Emergency State to expand its powers.
What started out as an apparent effort to prevent a novel coronavirus
from sickening the nation (and the world) became yet another means by
which world governments (including our own) could expand their
powers, abuse their authority, and further oppress their
constituents. While COVID-19 took a significant toll on the nation
emotionally, physically, and economically, it also allowed the
government to trample our rights in the so-called name of national
security, with talk of mass testing for COVID-19 antibodies,
screening checkpoints, contact tracing, immunity passports, forced
vaccinations, snitch tip lines and onerous lockdowns.

The
Surveillance State rendered Americans vulnerable to threats from
government spies, police, hackers and power failures. Thanks
to the government’s ongoing efforts to build massive databases
using emerging surveillance, DNA and biometrics technologies,
Americans have become sitting ducks for hackers and government spies
alike. Billions
of people have been affected by data breaches and cyberattacks.
On a daily basis, Americans have been made to relinquish the most
intimate details of who we are—our biological makeup, our genetic
blueprints, and our biometrics (facial characteristics and structure,
fingerprints, iris scans, etc.)—in order to navigate
an increasingly technologically-enabled world.

America became
a red flag nation.
Red flag laws, specifically, and pre-crime laws generally push us
that much closer towards a suspect society where everyone is
potentially guilty of some crime or another and must be preemptively
rendered harmless. Where many Americans go wrong is in naively
assuming that you have to be doing something illegal or harmful in
order to be flagged and targeted for some form of intervention or
detention. In fact, all you need to do these days to end up on a
government watch list or be subjected to heightened scrutiny is use
certain trigger words (like cloud, pork and pirates), surf the
internet, communicate using a cell phone, limp
or stutter, drive
a car, stay at a hotel, attend a political rally, express
yourself on social media, appear
mentally ill, serve in the military,
disagree
with a law enforcement official, call
in sick to work, purchase materials at a hardware store, take
flying or boating lessons, appear
suspicious, appear confused or nervous, fidget or whistle or
smell bad, be seen in public waving a toy gun or anything remotely
resembling a gun (such as a water nozzle or a remote control or a
walking cane), stare
at a police officer, question government authority, appear
to be pro-gun or pro-freedom, or generally live in the United
States. Be warned: once you get on such a government watch
list—whether it’s a terrorist watch list, a mental health watch
list, a dissident watch list, or a red flag gun watch list—there’s
no clear-cut way to get off, whether or not you should actually be on
there.

The cost of
policing the globe drove the nation deeper into debt.
America’s
war spending has already bankrupted
the nation to
the tune of more than $20 trillion dollars. Policing the globe and
waging endless wars abroad hasn’t made America—or the rest of the
world—any safer, but it has made the military industrial complex
rich at taxpayer expense. The U.S. military reportedly has more than
1.3
million
men and women on active duty, with more
than 200,000 of them stationed overseas in nearly every country
in the world. Yet America’s military forces aren’t being deployed
abroad to protect our freedoms here at home. Rather, they’re being
used to guard oil fields, build foreign infrastructure and protect
the financial interests of the corporate elite. In fact, the United
States military spends about $81
billion a year just to protect oil supplies around the world.
This is how a military empire occupies the globe. Meanwhile,
America’s infrastructure is falling apart.

Free speech
was dealt one knock-out punch after another.
Protest
laws, free speech zones, bubble zones, trespass zones,
anti-bullying legislation, zero tolerance policies, hate crime laws,
shadow banning on the Internet, and a host of other legalistic
maladies dreamed up by politicians and prosecutors (and championed by
those who want to suppress speech with which they might disagree)
conspired to corrode our core freedoms, purportedly for our own good.
On paper—at least according to the U.S. Constitution—we are
technically free to speak. In reality, however, we are only as free
to speak as a government official—or corporate entities such as
Facebook, Google or YouTube—may allow. The reasons for such
censorship
varied widely from political correctness, so-called safety concerns
and bullying to national security and hate crimes but the end result
remained the same: the complete eradication of free speech.

The Deep State
took over.
The American system of representative government has been overthrown
by the Deep State—a.k.a. the police state a.k.a. the
military/corporate industrial complex—a profit-driven, militaristic
corporate state bent on total control and global domination through
the imposition of martial law here at home and by fomenting wars
abroad. The “government of the people, by the people, for the
people” has perished. In its place is a shadow government, a
corporatized, militarized, entrenched bureaucracy that is fully
operational and staffed by unelected officials who are, in essence,
running the country and calling the shots in Washington DC, no matter
who sits in the White House. Mind you, by “government,” I’m not
referring to the highly partisan, two-party bureaucracy of the
Republicans and Democrats. Rather, I’m referring to “government”
with a capital “G,” the entrenched Deep State that is unaffected
by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and has set itself
beyond the reach of the law. This is the hidden face of a government
that has no respect for the freedom of its citizenry. This shadow
government, which “operates
according to its own compass heading regardless of who is formally in
power,” makes a mockery of elections and the entire concept of
a representative government.

The takeaway:
Everything the founders of this country feared has come to dominate
in modern America. “We the people” have been saddled with a
government that is no longer friendly to freedom and is working
overtime to trample the Constitution underfoot and render the
citizenry powerless in the face of the government’s power grabs,
corruption and abusive tactics.

So how do you balance
the scales of justice at a time when Americans are being tasered,
tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, hit with batons, shot with rubber
bullets and real bullets, blasted with sound cannons, detained
in cages and kennels, sicced by police dogs, arrested and jailed
for challenging the government’s excesses, abuses and power-grabs,
and then locked down and stripped of any semblance of personal
freedom?

No matter who sits in
the White House, politics won’t fix a system that is broken beyond
repair.

For that matter,
protests and populist movements also haven’t done much to push back
against an authoritarian regime that is deaf to our cries, dumb to
our troubles, blind to our needs, and accountable to no one.

So how do you not only
push back against the government’s bureaucracy, corruption and
cruelty but also launch a counterrevolution aimed at reclaiming
control over the government using nonviolent means?

You start by changing
the rules and engaging in some (nonviolent) guerilla tactics.

Take your cue from the
Tenth Amendment and nullify everything the government does that flies
in the face of the principles on which this nation was founded. If
there is any means left to us for thwarting the government in its
relentless march towards outright dictatorship, it may rest with the
power of juries and local governments to invalidate governmental
laws, tactics and policies that are illegitimate, egregious or
blatantly unconstitutional.

In an age in which
government officials accused of wrongdoing—police officers, elected
officials, etc.—are treated with general leniency, while the
average citizen is prosecuted to the full extent of the law,
nullification is a powerful reminder that, as the Constitution tells
us, “we the people” are the government.

For too long we’ve
allowed our so-called “representatives” to call the shots. Now
it’s time to restore the citizenry to their rightful place in the
republic: as the masters, not the servants.

Nullification is one
way of doing so.

America was meant to
be primarily a system of local governments, which is a far cry from
the colossal federal bureaucracy we have today. Yet if our freedoms
are to be restored, understanding what is transpiring practically in
your own backyard—in one’s home, neighborhood, school district,
town council—and taking action at that local level must be the
starting point.

Responding to unmet
local needs and reacting to injustices is what grassroots activism is
all about. Attend local city council meetings, speak up at town hall
meetings, organize protests and letter-writing campaigns, employ
“militant nonviolent resistance” and civil disobedience, which
Martin Luther King Jr. used to great effect through the use of
sit-ins, boycotts and marches.

The power to change
things for the better rests with us, not the politicians.

As long as we continue
to allow callousness, cruelty, meanness, immorality, ignorance,
hatred, intolerance, racism, militarism, materialism, meanness and
injustice—magnified by an echo chamber of nasty tweets and
government-sanctioned brutality—to trump justice, fairness and
equality, there can be no hope of prevailing against the police
state.

We could transform
this nation if only Americans would work together to harness the
power of their discontent and push back against the government’s
overreach, excesses and abuse.

hope for freedom in 2021, it rests with “we the people.”

Schande, zo zijn de commentaren op de rave party in Bretagne die vanmorgen eindelijk met succes door de politie kon worden gestopt. Een eerdere poging om het feest waar ongeveer 2.500 feestgangers al een paar dagen aan mee hebben gedaan, strandde in een fiasco: de politie werd op flessen en stenen ‘getrakteerd’ en een politieauto werd in brand gestoken.

Ook in Nederland werd schande gesproken, al ging het hier tijdens oudejaarsdag om een ‘demonstratie’ van jongeren op het Tesselseplein in het Haagse Duindorp. De demonstratie zou zich hebben gericht op het verbod van het jaarlijkse ‘vreugdevuur’ op het ‘aanpalende strand’, maar volgens Jan van Zanen, de nieuwe VVD zakkenwasser die zich burgemeester van Den Haag mag noemen, was het geen demonstratie maar een feest, waarmee hij een enorme wagenwijd openstaande deur inschopte, immers half Nederland had de beelden al gezien. En ook daar als in Bretagne hielden de meeste deelnemers geen afstand, noch droegen ze een mondmasker……. (‘vreselijk hè?’) Van Zanen heeft al héééél dapper aangekondigd een onderzoek in te zullen stellen naar de gebeurtenissen in Duindorp. (‘godzijdank’)

Jongeren over een groot deel van de wereld zijn de Coronamaatregelen meer dan zat, niet zo vreemd als je bedenkt dat de meeste Coronabesmettingen in de huiselijke kring worden opgedaan. Bovendien moet niet vergeten worden dat het zich verzetten tegen strakke regels nu juist een functie heeft bij jongeren, immers ze moeten hun eigen weg vinden in het leven.

Daarnaast is het grootste deel van de jongeren niet dom, zij zien dat de genomen maatregelen zoals die in Nederland deels elkaar tegenspreken en er ongelofelijke blunders worden gemaakt……. Wat denk je dat de trouwerij van CDA minister-kluns Grapperhaus, ‘ingezegend’ door VVD staatssecretaris-hufter Broekers-Knol heeft losgemaakt bij jongeren die niet zelden vanwege het niet afstand bewaren al hoge boetes opgelegd kregen, inclusief een strafblad?? Uiteraard heeft dit het fundament onder de al zwalkende Coronamaatregelen uit geramd…..

Grapperhaus en Broekers-Knol hadden de zaak nog enigszins kunnen redden, door zonder enig gezeur de juiste beslissing te nemen: aftreden…… Niet gebeurd, daarvoor missen deze 2 elk moreel en ethisch besef en dan spreekt men schande over het feit dat jongeren elke gelegenheid aangrijpen om feest te vieren, terwijl het een volkomen logisch gevolg is ten eerste door de situatie waarin de jongeren zich bevinden en waar ze ten tweede zien dat bestuurders zichzelf niet aan de regels houden, zonder daarvoor te worden gestraft!!! (waar die eerdere boete van € 399,– ook nog woede opwekte daar deze niet inkomensafhankelijk was, zo wonen in Duindorp voor het overgrote deel jongeren die op z’n zachtst gezegd maar weinig te verteren hebben als het om geld gaat, NB te danken aan al decennia falend overheidsbeleid op armoede……)

In feite gaat het hier om een vorm van opstand, die volkomen is te verklaren. Je hoeft geen Einstein te zijn om te voorspellen dat dit lang niet de laatste feesten zullen zijn en neem het de jongeren eens kwalijk……

Laten we hopen dat het voorbeeld van de jongeren wordt gevolgd en er zo snel mogelijk een opstand zal plaatsvinden in het westen tegen het ijskoude, inhumane neoliberalisme en het westerse imperialisme dat met illegale oorlogen zoveel leed heeft veroorzaakt en nog veroorzaakt in een flink deel van de wereld >> kunnen we eindelijk werken aan een wereld waarin alle rijkdom gelijkelijk wordt verdeeld en psychopathische op macht beluste bestuurders voorgoed aan de kant worden gezet………

Allereerst een gelukkig 2021 zonder Coronahysterie! Hoorde in het nieuws van 3.00u. vannacht dat je niet alleen werd en wordt beboet voor het afsteken van niet toegestaan vuurwerk, maar je ook een strafblad oploopt, in dit geval niet afhankelijk vanwege de hoge boete……. Zo was de boete van € 400,– voor het niet genoeg afstand houden, genoeg voor een strafblad, althans totdat bleek dat de bedenker daarvan CDA groothufter Grapperhaus zelf geen afstand hield op zijn trouwerij…..

Over Grapperhaus gesproken (en VVD oplichter Broekers-Knol, die als Grapperhaus geen afstand hield op hetzelfde trouwfeest): benieuwd of hij al is gefotografeerd bij het afsteken van vuurpijlen, het zou me weer niet verbazen.

Grapperhaus had voorafgaand aan oud & nieuw nog laten weten dat een jaartje geen vuurwerk echt niet zo’n opoffering is….. Nee hè Grapperhaus: volgend jaar weer volop knallen, met alle gevolgen van dien, zoals een enorm aantal gewonden en wellicht weer een paar doden, zoals de man in België die deze jaarwisseling een vuurpijl in zijn gezicht kreeg……..

De dwaas denkt echt dat hij nog gezag heeft…. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Grapperhaus is al verantwoordelijk voor het enorme aantal gewonden die de afgelopen jaren zijn gevallen als gevolg van vuurwerk afsteken, waarbij de meeste slachtoffers omstanders zijn, waaronder altijd weer kinderen…. Voorts is Grapperhaus verantwoordelijk voor de 2 doden die tijdens de vorige jaarwisseling vielen, wat zeg ik Grapperhaus? Het hele kabinet Rutte 3, immers als je akkoord gaat met toetreding tot een kabinet dat weigert vuurwerk te verbieden, ben je mede hoofdverantwoordelijk voor de enorme ellende en het verder aanjagen van de klimaatverandering, immers in ‘een normale nieuwjaarsnacht’ gaat er meer troep en zwaarder gif de lucht in dan de kolengestookte hoogovens in IJmuiden in bijna 2 jaar tijd produceren…….

Voorts is het Grapperhaus in het bijzonder aan te rekenen dat
dienstverleners waaronder ‘zijn politie’ de afgelopen jaren met vuurwerk
werden belaagd en wat zegt deze minkukel? “Een jaartje geen vuurwerk is
echt niet zo’n opoffering….”

Nog even over dat aanjagen van de klimaatverandering: daarin is het kleine Nederland toch al onevenredig groot, gezien de enorme veestapel van 600 miljoen dieren die hier jaarlijks worden groot en doodgemarteld, een veestapel die een enorme uitstoot aan methaangas produceert, een broeikasgas dat meer dan 80 keer zo sterk is dan CO2……..

Tekort aan politieagenten zo nijpend dat rechter een foute agent na 9 jaar weer toegang geeft tot korps

Weer eens een bericht waarbij je van je stoel dondert: afgelopen maandag werd bekend gemaakt dat een agent die flink de fout inging, o.a. door het steunen van de georganiseerde misdaad met informatie en het voorzien van politie uniformen, werd door de rechter veroordeeld tot 4 jaar gevangenisstraf en…..: een ontzegging voor het uitoefenen van zijn beroep voor een periode van 9 jaar…… Ofwel deze uiterst corrupte agent mag na 9 jaar weer zijn beroep als politieagent uitoefenen…… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Blijkbaar is het tekort aan agenten zo groot dat de rechter een misdadiger (en in feite een zwaardere misdadiger dan elke ‘ordinaire misdadiger’) toestaat na 9 jaar weer zijn beroep op te pakken…..

Het moet niet gekker worden in dit land, hè fascist Eerdmans??!!!

Politie schoot onschuldige man neer in Vlaardingen

Vanmiddag op teletekst van de NOS het bericht dat de politie vorige week in Vlaardingen een onschuldige man heeft neergeschoten….. De man voldeed volgens de agenten die hem aan wilden houden aan het signalement van de schutter, die net daarvoor een 26 jarige man had doodgeschoten…….

Niets in het bericht of andere berichten (althans die ik kon vinden) over dat signalement, het zou me dan ook niet verbazen dat ‘het belangrijkste onderdeel’ uit dat signalement bestond uit zeggen van getuigen dat de man waarschijnlijk van Marokkaanse dan wel Noord-Afrikaanse komaf zou moeten zijn, aangevuld met ongeveer de lengte….. (het slachtoffer had een naam die minstens lijkt op die van een persoon van Noord-Afrikaanse komaf)

De man is met zijn advocaat bezig met stappen tegen de waarnemend VVD burgemeester Eenhoorn, daar deze flink voor zijn beurt sprak in de media………

Walter Wallace jr., een gekleurde man van 27 met psychische aandoeningen en een criminele geschiedenis, hoewel minder toerekeningsvatbaar, was bepaald geen heilige, maar de 2 agenten die hem met een regen aan kogels vermoorden, waren duidelijk niet voorbereid op de omgang met iemand die leed aan geestelijke aandoeningen…… (trouwens al behoorlijk bevreemdend dat zo’n man niet al lang in een speciaal programma werd geplaatst om hem leren om te gaan met de maatschappij, waarbij men hem ook nog eens had moeten begeleiden in de maatschappij…. ach ja de VS het land van de vele mogelijkheden, in negatieve zin wel te verstaan……) 14 kogels maakten een eind aan het leven van Wallace…..*

John Whitehead, de schrijver van het hieronder opgenomen artikel, stelt dan ook volkomen terecht dat je je wel 2 keer moet bedenken als je de politie belt om welzijnscontrole te doen bij een familielid of andere geliefde persoon (omdat je ongerust bent)…….

Whitehead noemt een aantal zaken die gevaarlijk zijn als je de politie een geliefde laat controleren. Bijvoorbeeld als die persoon autistisch is, een gehoorstoornis heeft, lijdt aan een geestelijke aandoening, dement is (uiteraard ook een geestelijke aandoening), invalide is, of een aandoening heeft waarbij deze persoon niet begrijpt wat er gevraagd wordt en/of op een andere manier moeite heeft met communiceren, dan wel niet onmiddellijk in staat is om te reageren op een bevel (van een veelal psychopathische (trigger-happy) politieagent…… (want vergeet niet dat je echt wel een psychopaat moet zijn om iemand dood te schieten, zeker als je dit al vaker hebt gedaan…..)

Al moet daar nog wel bij vermeld worden, zoals ook Whitehead stelt: de politie in de VS wordt geleerd dat de eigen veiligheid en van een eventuele collega belangrijker is dan de dood van een burger, ‘better be safe than sorry….’ Bovendien als je stelt dat het leven van agenten boven dat van een ander gaat, je het niet gek moet vinden dat men eerst schiet alvorens vragen te stellen……

Als je de meeste gevallen van politiemoorden ziet in de VS is er maar heel weinig voor nodig om doodgeschoten te worden. Zo moest ook Gay Plack, een 57 jarige vrouw met een bipolaire stoornis fataal bemerken. 2 agenten gingen een welzijnscontrole bij haar uitvoeren, ongevraagd gingen ze het huis in, schreeuwden haar naam, tot ze haar vonden in een donkere badkamer waar ze in een hoekje zat (bang, Ap) en ter zelf verdediging een klein soort bijl voor zich hield….. Vier seconden later werd ze in haar buik geschoten…….. De agenten schoten beiden op haar, niet om haar te immobiliseren maar duidelijk om te doden, immers gezien de plek waar ze werd geraakt……. Whitehead stelt nog dat één van de agenten een taser had, echter die kan behoorlijk dodelijk zijn, zeker voor mensen met aandoeningen….. Alsof 2 agenten niet bij machte zouden zijn geweest om de vrouw te ontwapenen………. Volgens de chef van deze agenten niet, die stelde dat de agenten geen andere keus hadden dan te schieten op deze vrouw, die ook nog eens klein van formaat was…….. Whitehead noemt het niet, maar als de persoon in kwestie ook nog eens een gekleurde is, is de kans op een fatale afloop nog groter, zoals ik al menig keer in verslagen heb gelezen…….

– They shot at him fourteen
times.

Walter Wallace Jr.—a
troubled 27-year-old black man with a criminal history and mental
health issues—was no saint. Still, he didn’t deserve to die
in a hail of bullets fired by police officers who clearly had not
been adequately trained in how to de-escalate encounters with special
needs individuals.

Wallace’s death is a
powerful reminder to think twice before you call the cops to carry
out a welfare check on a loved one.

Especially if that
person is autistic, hearing impaired, mentally ill, elderly,
suffering from dementia, disabled or might have a condition that
hinders their ability to understand, communicate or immediately
comply with an order.

Particularly if you
value that person’s life.

There are some things
that don’t change. Even as the nation grapples with the twin
distractions of political theater and a viral pandemic, there are
still deadlier forces at play.

This is one of them.

At a time when growing
numbers of unarmed people have been shot and killed for just standing
a certain way, or moving a certain way, or holding
something—anything—that police could misinterpret to be a gun, or
igniting some trigger-centric fear in a police officer’s mind that
has nothing to do with an actual threat to their safety, even the
most benign encounters with police can have fatal consequences.

Unfortunately,
police—trained in the worst case scenario and thus ready to shoot
first and ask questions later—increasingly
pose a risk to anyone undergoing a mental health crisis or with
special needs whose disabilities may not be immediately apparent
or require more finesse than the typical freeze-or-I’ll-shoot
tactics employed by America’s police forces.

For instance, Gay
Plack, a 57-year-old Virginia woman with bipolar disorder, was killed
after two police officers—sent to do a welfare check on her—entered
her home uninvited, wandered through the house shouting her name,
kicked open her locked bedroom door, discovered the terrified woman
hiding in a dark bathroom and wielding a small axe, and four seconds
later, shot her in the stomach.

Four seconds.

That’s all the time
it took for the two police officers assigned to check on Plack to
decide to use lethal force against her (both cops opened fire on the
woman), rather than using non-lethal options (one
cop had a Taser, which he made no attempt to use) or attempting
to de-escalate the situation.

The police chief
defended his officers’ actions, claiming they had “no
other option” but to shoot the 5 foot 4 inch woman.

This is what happens
when you empower the police to act as judge, jury and executioner.

This is what happens
when you indoctrinate the police into believing that their
lives and their
safety are paramount to anyone else’s.

Suddenly, everyone and
everything else is a threat that must be neutralized or eliminated.

In light of the
government’s ongoing efforts
to predict who might pose a threat to public safety based on mental
health sensor data (tracked by wearable data such as FitBits and
Apple Watches and monitored by government agencies such as HARPA, the
“Health Advanced Research Projects Agency”), encounters with the
police could get even more deadly, especially if those involved have
a mental illness or disability.

Indeed, disabled
individuals make up a third to half of all people killed by law
enforcement officers.

For example, in South
Carolina, police tasered an 86-year-old grandfather reportedly in the
early stages of dementia, while
he was jogging backwards away from them.

In Oklahoma, police
shot
and killed a 35-year-old deaf man seen holding a two-foot metal
pipe on his front porch (he used the pipe to fend off stray dogs
while walking). Despite the fact that witnesses warned police that
Magdiel Sanchez couldn’t hear—and thus comply—with their
shouted orders to drop the pipe and get on the ground, police shot
the man when he was about 15 feet away from them.

In Maryland, police
(moonlighting as security guards) used extreme force to eject a
26-year-old man with Downs Syndrome and a low IQ from a movie
theater after the man insisted on sitting through a second screening
of a film. Autopsy results indicate that Ethan Saylor died of
complications arising from asphyxiation, likely caused by a
chokehold.

In Florida, police
armed with assault rifles fired three shots at a 27-year-old
nonverbal, autistic man who was sitting on the ground, playing
with a toy truck. Police missed the autistic man and instead shot his
behavioral therapist, Charles Kinsey, who had been trying to get him
back to his group home. The therapist, bleeding
from a gunshot wound, was then handcuffed and left lying face
down on the ground for 20 minutes.

These cases, and the
hundreds—if not thousands—more that go undocumented every year
speak to a crisis in policing when it comes to law enforcement’s
failure to adequately assess, de-escalate and manage encounters with
special needs or disabled individuals.

While the research is
relatively scant, what has been happening is telling.

Over the course of six
months, police
shot and killed someone who was in mental crisis every 36 hours.

Where does this leave
us?

For starters, we need
better police training across the board, but especially when it comes
to de-escalation tactics and crisis intervention.

A study by the
National Institute of Mental Health found that CIT (Crisis
Intervention Team)-trained
officers made fewer arrests, used less force, and connected more
people with mental-health services than their non-trained peers.

Second, police need to
learn
how to slow confrontations down, instead of ramping up the
tension (and the noise).

Maryland police
recruits are now required to take a four-hour course in which they
learn “de-escalation tactics” for dealing with disabled
individuals: speak
calmly, give space, be patient.

One officer in charge
of the LAPD’s “mental response teams” suggests that instead of
rushing to take someone into custody, police
should try to slow things down and persuade the
person to come with them.

Third, with all the
questionable funds flowing to police departments these days, why not
use some of those funds to establish what one disability-rights
activist describes as “a
911-type number dedicated to handling mental-health emergencies,
with community crisis-response teams at the ready rather than police
officers.”

In the end, while we
need to make encounters with police officers safer for people with
suffering from mental illness or with disabilities, what we really
need—as I point out in my book Battlefield
America: The War on the American People—is
to make encounters with police safer for all
individuals
all across the board.

‘Islamitische terreur’: de EU ministers van Binnenlandse Zaken vergaderen virtueel over maatregelen

Vandaag vindt een videoconferentie plaats met de ministers van Binnenlandse Zaken van de EU-lidstaten, onderwerp: de recente terreuraanslagen door ‘islam terroristen’. Volgens ‘ingewijden’ zal er ongetwijfeld meer geld worden vrijgemaakt voor Interpol en zal men dit orgaan meer bevoegdheden toekennen (zoals bijna elke lidstaat na aanslagen hun geheime diensten en politiekorpsen meer geld geven en meer bevoegdheden geven….) Ook bespreekt men hoe de afzonderlijke landelijke politiekorpsen van de EU-lidstaten beter kunnen samenwerken…..

Voorts gaat e.e.a. ‘natuurlijk’ over de grensbewaking tussen onderlinge EU-lidstaten en de verhouding met het Verdrag van Schengen….. Het is vrijwel zeker dat er weer meer geld vrijgemaakt zal worden om de buitengrenzen beter te bewaken, alsof eerdere geldinjecties ook maar een millimeter verschil uitmaakten met de situatie daaraan voorafgaand (en men wel op tijd figuren die kwaad willen van de straat haalt….)….

Het woord censuur wordt in dat soort conferenties gemeden als de pest, terwijl men wel degelijk censuur op het internet wil invoeren als het gaat ‘om radicale moslim-sites…….’ En nee, men wenst niets te doen tegen het beledigen van de islam, daar spreekt men plotsklaps wel over ‘de vrijheid van meningsuiting……’ (je kan zeggen dat wij nu eenmaal al decennialang onze christelijke godsdienst hebben bespot en bespotten, echter dat betekent niet dat je willens en wetens de islam moet beledigen, waar de meeste moslims, wat betreft hun godsdienst en het denken daarover, fiks achterlopen op het grootste deel van de bevolkingen in westerse landen)……

Er zal zeker niet gesproken worden over het feit dat telkens weer blijkt dat de daders van terreuraanslagen al bekend waren bij geheime diensten (en vaak genoeg ook bij de politie), men deze figuren bij wijze van spreken in het vizier had en dat deze figuren desondanks een aanslag wisten te plegen…….

Ook zal er niet gesproken worden over de grootschalige westerse terreur in diverse moslimlanden als Afghanistan, Irak, Syrië en Libië, wat de laatste betreft ook nog eens in een paar andere islamitische landen in Afrika (waar vooral de VS tekeergaat……..) Bij die terreur zijn alleen deze eeuw al meer dan 2,5 miljoen mensen (moslims) omgekomen en als je denkt dat alle nabestaanden depressief in een hoek gaan zitten, heb je het mis, natuurlijk zitten daar genoeg nabestaanden tussen die wraak wensen te nemen…… Vreemd trouwens dat de westerse media die op tilt slaan na een aanslag in een westers land, totaal niet met opgeklopte reacties komen als een westerse geallieerde in zo’n moslimland een bruiloft of begrafenis opblaast, alsof dat geen terreur is, hetzelfde geldt voor de seriemoorden met VS drones (tot in Pakistan) van mensen die men verdenkt van terreurdaden en waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werd verdacht, dus veelal vrouwen en kinderen…… (alweer alsof dat geen terreur is….)

Wanneer worden de westerse bevolkingen eindelijk wakker uit hun comateuze slaap en zullen ze eisen dat hun afzonderlijke regeringen stoppen met het uitoefenen van grootschalige terreur in landen waar men niets, maar dan ook helemaal niets te zoeken heeft….???
