Mensen redden wordt bestraft: een nieuw teken van ‘oprukkend’ fascisme

De kapitein van het schip Sea-Watch 3 (onder Nederlandse vlag), Carola Rackete, een 31 jarige Duitser, werd gearresteerd daar ze haar schip met 42 uitgeputte vluchtelingen de haven van Lampedusa in stuurde, nadat haar schip 2 weken voor Lampedusa heeft gelegen, tevergeefs wachtend op toestemming de haven binnen te mogen varen……..

Hoe is het in godsnaam mogelijk dat je wordt gearresteerd en vervolgd als je vluchtelingen (mensen) helpt, in de VS gebeurt dit overigens ook, als je daar vluchtelingen helpt met water en voedsel, vluchtelingen die via VS woestijngebied dat land zijn binnengekomen…….

Het is duidelijk: de groeiende fascismisering van het westen (inclusief een fiks deel van Oost-Europa) zorgt ervoor dat men zonder blikken en blozen durft te stellen dat mensen die vluchtelingen helpen, zich schuldig maken aan mensenhandel, zelfs als de vluchtelingen anders verdronken waren……

Dan te bedenken dat de vluchtelingen voor een heel groot deel op weg zijn gegaan vanwege door het westen veroorzaakte ellende, zoals de illegale oorlogen van de VS, gesteund door andere NAVO-lidstaten als Nederland en Italië…..

Een andere oorzaak voor het ontvluchten van haard en huis is het brodeloos maken van vissers in Afrika door gigantische westerse vissersschepen, die de kustwateren van veel Afrikaanse landen leegvissen……. Voorts is daar nog het werkloos worden van Afrikaanse boeren door dumping op Afrikaanse markten van door de EU gesubsidieerde landbouwoverschotten….. Hetzelfde geldt voor Latijns-Amerika, al is daar de VS als enige de hoofdschuldige voor ellende in dat deel van de 3 Amerika’s…. Ellende als de door de VS uitgeoefende terreur in dat deel van de wereld, bijvoorbeeld terreur in de vorm van economische oorlogsvoering (zoals die tegen Venezuela) en het organiseren van opstanden en staatsgrepen. Ook daar vindt dumping plaats van door VS gesubsidieerde landbouwoverschotten….

Ofwel: ondanks dat het westen de schuldige is voor het op de vlucht slaan van grote stromen mensen, weigert het de slachtoffers daarvan op te nemen en straft het degenen die deze mensen helpen om hun tocht te kunnen overleven, zij kunnen tot 20 jaar gevangenisstraf worden veroordeeld….*

Terwijl alle landen die zich verzetten tegen het opnemen van vluchtelingen wel het VN Vluchtelingenverdrag hebben getekend, alsof dat plotseling een waardeloos vod is geworden…… Nogmaals: en dan de mensen bestraffen die deze arme drommels helpen……

De wereld op de kop, ongelofelijk!!

Vandaag werd bekend gemaakt dat 2 andere schepen voor Lampedusa liggen, met in totaal meer dan 100 vluchtelingen aan boord. WDR meldt dat Duitsland heeft aangeboden de vluchtelingen op te nemen. (Duitsland is dan ook een gunstige uitzondering op de rest van het westen)

Mosul, 18 maanden na ‘de bevrijding’

Door
recente droogte is Mosul weer onder de aandacht gekomen van de
internationale media, daar die droogte ervoor zorgde dat een oude ruïne bloot kwam te liggen van een 3.400 jaar oud paleis.

De
aandacht van de reguliere westerse media voor Mosul was tijdens ‘de
bevrijding’ van die stad vooral wat het VS leger en het Iraakse
bewind daarover te zeggen hadden. Zo was Hans Jaap Melissen* één
van de ‘journalisten’ die embedded waren bij de VS/Irak coalitie en
die verboden werd de stad in te gaan…… Deze zogenaamde oorlogscorrespondenten lepelden braaf op wat hen was voorgekauwd door de propaganda machine van die
coalitie……

Met name
‘de bevrijding’ van West-Mosul heeft een enorm aantal doden
gekost en waarbij de historische binnenstad werd vernietigd door
bombardementen van de VS…… Diverse mensenrechtenorganisaties en
zelfs de VN hebben de VS destijds gesmeekt te stoppen met die
bombardementen, daar de bewoners van de oude stad zo hutjemutje op elkaar woonden….. (de VS trok zich daar niets van aan….) Dit was dan ook de oorzaak voor het enorme aantal omgekomen burgers bij die bombardementen…….

Na ‘de
bevrijding’ van Mosul heeft het Iraakse leger niet gepoogd
slachtoffers te bergen, nee men koos ervoor de ruïnes te bulldozeren,
met de slachtoffers nog onder het puin. Er moeten tienduizenden
burgers zijn omgekomen (men houdt het officieel op het ongeloofwaardig aantal van 10.000; zie de links onder het hieronder opgenomen artikel), echter door het bulldozeren van de ruïnes zullen we nooit weten hoeveel slachtoffers terreurentiteit VS
heeft gemaakt met haar terreurbombardementen…..

Intussen
leven de teruggekeerde inwoners nog steeds tussen ruïnes en is er een
gebrek aan zaken als sanitaire voorzieningen waardoor ziekten de kop
opsteken, die de zo geplaagde bevolking nog verder in de ellende
storten……

In het
hieronder opgenomen artikel gaat de schrijver, T.J. Coles dieper in
op deze zaak, o.a. met het noemen van het enorme aantal bommen dat de
VS op Irak en Syrië heeft doen neerkomen, waarvan een aanzienlijk
deel op Mosul (en later op Raqqa in Syrië), voorts stelt hij nogmaals
dat de VS de hoofdverantwoordelijke is voor het ontstaan van IS, de
terreurgroep aan wie de VS zelf meermaals wapens en ander militair

Among the Rubble: Mosul 18 Months after “Liberation”

Recent
news of drought has brought Mosul, Iraq, to the attention of Western
media; for the drought has led to the discovery of ancient ruins of
archaeological significance. But let’s not forget the other news:
the UN report on returnees. The refugees are returning to the carnage
wrought upon the city by the US and its allies under the pretext of
“liberating” it from Daesh: carnage that transformed much of the
city to modern ruins.

ANCIENT
RUINS DISCOVERED

Mosul
is a city in Iraqi Kurdistan with a population of
1.3 million; 60% of whom are Sunni Arabs, around 25% of whom are
Kurds. Ongoing drought has brought Mosul to the attention of Western
media, as receding water levels at Kemune reservoir reveals the ruin
of a 3,400 year-old palace. Researchers from the University of
Tübingen and the Kurdistan Archaeology Organization reckon that
the palace was part of the Mittani Empire (circa 1450-1350 BCE).
According to onearchaeological
history, “[Mittani’s] end as independent realm can be dated to
the time of Hittite king Šuppiluliuma I in the middle of the 14th
century BC.”

Echoes
of the conquests and rivalry of the ancient past haunt both recent
history and the present. The so-called Mosul
Question was
a territorial dispute in the early-20th century between the British
and Ottoman empires, with both parties wanting a share of the
region’s oil. In the latter-part of the 20th century, Iraq’s
one-time US-British-backed dictator
Saddam Hussein launched the Anfal genocide against Kurds who have
historic and ongoing links to the region. A couple of years ago, the
US-approved leaders of the central Iraqi government and the regional
Kurdish authorities squabbled over
control of Mosul, anticipating that Daesh would be defeated.

But
the discovery of ancient Mittani ruins coincides with darker news.
A recent
report by
the UN International Organization for Migration documents the effects
of the US-led coalition bombardment of the city. It begins: “Entire
neighborhoods have not yet been rebuilt, basic services are
insufficient in some areas, and poor sanitation is contributing to
serious public health problems and the spread of diseases.
Furthermore,” the report continues, “reports of harassment and
violence against civilians by state as well as non-state actors are
undermining efforts to build trust in state institutions and
authorities.” Western-led humanitarian intervention is the price
that Iraqis pay for being an oil-rich, militarily vulnerable nation.

MAKING
ENEMIES

Daesh
(a.k.a., Islamic State) was largely the by-product of US-British
savagery in Iraq. Having left the nation politically and
infrastructurally decimated by
decades of unprecedented sanctions, military occupation, and
divide-and-conquer strategizing, the more extreme Islamic elements in
Iraq—backed by foreign powers for their own geostrategic
interests—sprouted from fertile ground. The US Army’s Strategic
Studies Institute launched an unusually scathing attack on the Bush
II administration’s decision to invade Iraq in 2003 and how it and
the succeeding Obama administration handled the occupation. Ignoring
moral questions and focusing solely on tactics, as well as blaming
the US-backed politician Ahmed Chalabi, the report (worth quoting at
length) says that
the growth of the Islamic State Organization (ISO):

“did
not occur in a vacuum … The ISO would not exist, or at this level
of severity at least, had the ruling Shia elements in Iraq following
the USG [US Government] occupation made the essential, painful
choices required to pursue a new social compact with the nation’s
Sunni population. Or, had the USG not operationalized Ahmad Chalabi’s
long-dreamt of goal of imposing a punitive de-Ba’athification,”

meaning
the dismantling of Iraq’s political, military, and policing
infrastructure. It goes on:

“Or,
had the USG not imposed the disastrous policy of dissolving the Iraqi
armed forces and security forces, numbering in the hundreds of
thousands; or had been prepared for a Sunni insurgency; or had
developed a realistic post-occupation, longer-term stabilization
policy based in a keen and learned awareness that the USG’s
decapitation, occupation, and empowerment of Iraq’s Shia would
profoundly destabilize an existing equilibrium in Iraq; or understood
that the decapitation of the Iraqi regime would profoundly alter the
terms of the broader Sunni-Shia rivalry inaugurated by the emergence
of a Shia revolutionary State in 1979, and thereby further energizing
proponents and antagonists who view this schism as a difference so
wide as that between God and the Devil; or, finally, had the USG not
first gone into Iraq the wrong way, and later repeated the error by
disengaging from Iraq the wrong way.”

Even
though US-British violence created Daesh, the US-British answer to
defeating Daesh was more violence.

AIR
AND GROUND WAR

In
June 2014, Daesh took Mosul, triggering a refugee flight of half a
million. According to the timeline, by
September ten Arab majority states announced their participation in
the US-led anti-Daesh coalition. Britain started bombing Iraq, again,
on September 30th with Paveway IV and Brimstone missiles. As well as
using Reaper drones in its anti-Daesh operations, the UK supplied 275
ground troops. By the end of the destruction of Mosul, the UK had 600
personnel on the ground in Iraq. Maj. Gen. Rupert Jones boasted that
“the UK was the second biggest contributor from a military
perspective in the campaign.” According to Forces.Net,
the British Army trained 75,000
Iraqi military personnel at Camp Taji and other bases. Many of those
who fought in Mosul committed war crimes, including torturing
and murdering alleged
Daesh members. In particular, the US-trained 16th Division
executed suspects, including
children.

These
atrocities pale in comparison to the devastation of the aerial
bombardments.

In
2016, the US-led coalition dropped 30,743
bombs on Iraq and Syria. In 2017, it dropped 39,577. In 2018, the
coalition dropped over 6,800 bombs. In February 2018, Pehr Lodhammar
of the UN Mine Action Service reported that
the “liberation” of Mosul had left 11 million tonnes of debris,
burying two-thirds of the unexploded bombs (UXB). The anti-mine,
anti-UXB operations will take the UN a decade to complete; assuming
that their budget isn’t reduced. It took the agency 12 months to
remove 25,000 explosive remnants in Mosul alone. The
BBC reported that
UK Ministry of Defence bombs “malfunctioned and strayed off target”
sometimes by “hundreds of metres,” adding to the civilian death
toll which reached up to 10,000; 11,000, according to the
same Forces.Net source
noted above. Mosul resident and civilian, Abdel Rahman Ali, lost five
children to the blitz. “Nobody destroyed us except the coalition,”
he told the BBC.

In
its written evidence to the British government, Amnesty
International says: “Our
field research constitutes prima
facieevidence
that Coalition strikes, which killed and injured civilians in Syria
and Iraq, violated International Humanitarian Law (IHL).”
Criticizing what it calls a “crisis in accountability,” Save the
Children’s written evidence notes that
$700 million-worth of damage was wrought on each of Mosul’s 54
residential districts. Save the Children concludes: “In Mosul, the
UN Security Council also found that at least 4200 civilians were
killed by EWIPA [explosive weapons with wide-area effects in
populated areas] between October 2016 and July 2017. Research
undertaken by the UN suggests that in such settings, over 90 percent
of the casualties are civilians.”

IN
CONCLUSION

Instead
of being decapitated and immolated by Daesh, thousands of inhabitants
of Mosul were blown to pieces and incinerated by US-British bombs. UN
International Organization for Migration’s recent
report notes that,
at its peak, nearly one million residents fled the city. By now,
350,000 or so remain “internally displaced persons” (IDPs). “Many
IDPs are unable to return because their houses have been destroyed,
either by [Daesh] or during the battle, and renting or buying new
property is prohibitively expensive.” They are some of the millions
of refugees generated by the US-British imperial war machine. Mosul
is a small part of a much larger tragedy: one of US global hegemony
in the age of Full Spectrum Dominance.

Gedwongen sterilisatie voor transgenders in Japan

In 2003
werd in Japan wet 11 aangenomen, in die wet staat te lezen dat mensen
die een andere sekse willen aannemen (middels een medische ingreep) en als een andere genderidentiteit wettelijk erkend willen worden, gedwongen sterilisatie moeten
ondergaan…..

Te zot
voor woorden en deze wet moet zo snel mogelijk worden herzien! Lees
en teken de petitie van het Care2 team ajb en geeft het
door!

Overigens is Japan niet alleen met haar verplichte sterilisatie, ook Frankrijk en België doen dit….*

Forced
Sterilization of Transgender People Must End Now

Japan
is one of the most technologically advanced countries on earth. But
when it comes to their treatment of trans people they are still
firmly stuck in the 20th century. Law
111 — passed in
2003 — requires
any person wishing to transition and be legally recognized as their
preferred gender to undergo forced sterilization. 

Since
2004, around 3,000 trans men and women have been forced
to relinquish control of their bodies —
all
so they could be their true selves. These
procedures are not necessary for any medical reason,
rather the Japanese Ministry of Justice offensively says it is to
avoid confusion. Law
111 has been widely
panned by several human rights organizations including
the UN and the World Health Organization and it needs to be
updated.

Please
join in the fight for LGBTQ rights in Japan. Sign the petition and
tell the government that forced sterilization must become a thing of
the past. Tell them to revise Law 111.

Joe Biden zegt de illegale oorlog tegen Irak te hebben gestopt

Tijdens
het debat voor de democratische voorverkiezing van de kandidaat voor
de presidentsverkiezingen in 2020, stelde Joe Biden plompverloren dat
hij verantwoordelijk was voor de terugtrekking van de VS troepen uit
Irak in 2011 en dat hij daarmee een eind had gemaakt aan de illegale oorlog
die de VS in 2003 tegen dat land begon, een oorlog waar hij NB voor stemde………

Deze
terugtrekking van troepen, 150.000 militairen in totaal, was al
gepland door de Bush administratie en niet de Obama administratie,
waarvan Biden deel uitmaakte…..

Lees het
ontluisterende verhaal over Biden, in feite een oorlogsmisdadiger,
immers hij was als vicepresident van de VS mede verantwoordelijk voor
de illegale oorlogen die Obama begon, zoals die tegen Libië en Syrië,
voorts droeg hij mede verantwoordelijkheid voor de gewelddadige
opstand in Oekraïne en de daarop volgende oorlog tegen de burgers van
Oost-Oekraïne…….. Burgers die terecht boos waren dat de door hen
democratisch gekozen president Janoekovytsj werd afgezet en NB werd
vervangen door een neonazi-junta onder Porosjenko, de door de VS
geparachuteerde leider, die geen bondgenootschap wenste met Rusland,
maar met de EU en de VS……..

Een paar
kanttekeningen: van een daadwerkelijk einde aan de oorlog in Irak is
nog steeds geen sprake en voorts zijn er nog steeds VS militairen in
Irak….. Verder is de VS mede verantwoordelijk voor de vorming van
IS en de steun voor terreurgroepen die tekeergingen tegen sjiieten en aanhangers van andere geloven in
Irak en Syrië, waar deze terroristen (naast IS o.a. Al Qaida) in dat
laatste land m.n. streden en nog strijden tegen het democratisch
gekozen bewind Assad…… 

Overigens laat het hieronder opgenomen artikel nog eens zien, hoe belangrijk het klokkenluiden door Chelsea Manning was en is, en dat we blij mogen zijn met Wikileaks, zodat we een groot deel van de uiterst smerige machinaties door de VS hebben kunnen achterhalen, zoals de moord in 2006 op een aantal Irakezen, t.w, 5 kinderen en 4 vrouwen die in 2006 geboeid standrechtelijk werden geëxecuteerd door VS militairen en niet zoals de VS verklaarde waren omgekomen bij een (lucht-) bombardement……. De wereld heeft er totaal geen baat bij dergelijke zware oorlogsmisdaden van de VS onder de pet te houden, integendeel!! Yankee go home!!!

Biden Took Credit for Ending the Iraq War During the Debate

(SP) — Former
vice president Joe Biden took credit for withdrawing 150,000 United
States troops from Iraq during the Democratic presidential debate.
But the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq was part of a status of
forces agreement (SOFA) President George W. Bush established with the
Iraqi government.

As
the Washington Post reported in November 2008, “The Bush
administration agreed to a total withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq
by the end of 2011.” The agreement also placed “additional
restrictions on how U.S. troops conducted missions,” and required a
“pullout from Iraqi urban areas by July 2009.”

In
fact, in early 2011, Obama and his advisers planned to
keep a residual force in Iraq, but they didn’t tell Prime Minister
Nouri al-Maliki or the American people.

According
to James F. Jeffrey, a former U.S. ambassador to Turkey and Iraq,
“Washington had to determine the size of a residual force. That
dragged on, with the military pushing for a larger force, and the
White House for a small presence at or below 10,000, due to costs and
the president’s prior ‘all troops out’ position. In June, the
president decided on the force level (eventually 5,000) and obtained
Mr. Maliki’s assent to new SOFA talks.”

MSNBC
host Rachel Maddow said to Biden, “You made your decades of
experience in foreign policy a pillar of your campaign, but when the
time came to say yes or no on one of the most consequential foreign
policy decisions of the last century, you voted for the Iraq War.”

“You
have since said you regret that vote. But why should voters trust
your judgment when it comes to making a decision about taking the
country to war the next time?” Maddow asked.

“Once
Bush abused that power, what happened was, we got elected after that.
I made sure—the president turned to me and said, Joe, get our
combat troops out of Iraq. I was responsible for getting 150,000
combat troops out of Iraq, and my son was one of them,” Biden
declared.

Biden
was referring to this moment, which Antony Blinken, Biden’s
national security adviser, recounted for
The Atlantic. “We were sitting in the Oval Office one day and
talking about [the troop presence], and Obama looked at Biden and
said, ‘Joe, I think you should do this. We need sustained focus
from the White House. You know Iraq better than anyone.’”

But
what he oversaw was meetings and negotiations within the framework of
the SOFA from the Bush administration.

In
October 2011, it was reported the
Obama administration would stick to a December 31 withdrawal deadline
set in 2008. The administration would not leave thousands of U.S.
troops in Iraq.

The
reason U.S. troops did not stay in Iraq past the withdrawal deadline
had nothing to do with ending the war. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta
and other top military officials demanded a
deal that included immunity for personnel from prosecution for war
crimes.

CNN
reported, “The Iraqis refused to agree to that, opening up the
prospect of Americans being tried in Iraqi courts and subjected to
Iraqi punishment.”

“The
negotiations were strained following WikiLeaks’ release of a
diplomatic cable that alleged Iraqi civilians, including children,
were killed in a 2006 raid by American troops rather than in an
airstrike as the U.S. military initially reported,” CNN
additionally reported.

A
diplomatic cable disclosed by
Chelsea Manning and published by WikiLeaks revealed details of a U.S.
military raid that killed several women and children.

The
classified U.S. State Embassy communications log from Philip Alston,
United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or
Arbitrary Executions, detailed how American troops approached an
Iraqi man’s home on March 15, 2006. They handcuffed residents and
executed all of them. An air raid was called in to destroy the house.

“Iraqi
TV stations broadcast from the scene and showed bodies of the victims
(i.e. five children and four women) in the morgue of Tikrit.
Autopsies carried out at the Tikrit Hospital’s morgue revealed that
all corpses were shot in the head and handcuffed,” the cable
indicated.

The
Bush administration avoided responding to any communication related
to the matter, Alston told The Guardian, as the cable impacted
negotiations with Iraq.

Given
that, the credit for forcing the completion of the withdrawal of U.S.
troops should also go to Chelsea Manning, who is in jail for refusing
to testify before a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks, and WikiLeaks
and their founder Julian Assange, who faces extradition for
publishing classified information.

Manning
and WikiLeaks sparked a moment that led to the end of the Iraq War.
It is unclear what Biden did to ensure troops did not remain in Iraq
past the 2011 withdrawal deadline.

De Russische president Putin is getroffen door een zonnesteek of tien: de zak durfde tijdens de G20 in Japan Merkel de mantel uit te vegen over haar vluchtelingenbeleid……. Het beest Trump daarentegen voert volgens Putin een prima vluchtelingenbeleid…….

Alsof Merkel en daarmee Duitsland de ene na de andere illegale oorlog voert, dictators in het zadel helpt, dan wel dictators steunt met de terreur tegen het eigen volk…… Aan alle 3 hiervoor geschetste zaken maakt de VS zich nu juist schuldig, zaken die grote vluchtelingenstromen op gang brachten en brengen, ook in Latijns-Amerika……. 

Anders gezegd: juist Trump is verantwoordelijk voor die vluchtelingenstromen, waarbij hij deze vluchtelingen durft af te schilderen als misdadigers, terwijl hij zich met voornoemde zaken juist schuldig maakt aan een groot aantal oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid…..

Ook in Syrië is de VS degene die de lont in het kruitvat aanstak*, iets dat juist Putin moet weten, immers hij werd te hulp geroepen door Syrië en dat in de strijd tegen de VS en de door haar gesteunde terreurgroepen, die met hun terreur zoals gezegd grote vluchtelingenstromen op gang bracht, vluchtelingen die Merkel welkom heette in Duitsland en de EU……

Putin moet de oren van z’n kop schamen!! In het vervolg kan hij beter eerst even goed nadenken voor hij dergelijke nonsens uit……. 

* De VS was al vanaf 2006 bezig een opstand in Syrië op poten te zetten onder regie van de CIA (vooral met hulp van Hillary Clinton, destijds minister van BuZa onder ‘vredesduif’ Obama), een opstand die een coup tegen Assad moest uitlokken….. Tijdens de door de CIA en Clinton georganiseerde opstand in Syrië, heeft de VS terroristen het land in geholpen, die tijdens demonstraties op mensen begonnen te schieten, niet de politie of het leger van Assad, zoals de reguliere westerse media en politici nog steeds volhouden….. ICE runt concentratiekampen in de VS voor vluchtelingen en kinderen

ICE
houdt immigranten gevangen onder uitermate barre omstandigheden,
waar isolatiefolter aan de orde van de dag is. 

In het
hieronder opgenomen artikel, geschreven door Maryam Saleh, verhaalt
zij over de vreselijke omstandigheden waaronder ICE immigranten uit
Latijns-Amerika gevangen worden gehouden….. (zij gaat verder niet in op de omgang met vluchtelingenkinderen

Onlangs
werd al bekend gemaakt dat kinderen van immigranten nog steeds
gescheiden worden van hun ouders en moeten leven in omstandigheden
die te vergelijken zijn met de concentratiekampen van de nazi’s
tijdens WOII…… Hoorde eergisternacht op de BBC dat men zelfs
tot 100 kinderen in een soort van grote cel gevangen houdt…… Peuters lopen met of vuile luiers of helemaal geen luiers, zodat de kleding ongelofelijk vies wordt…..

Over kleding gesproken: pubers moeten soms wekenlang doen met de kleding die ze aanhebben….. Voedsel dat wordt verstrekt is niet zelden bedorven en de oudere kinderen moeten de kleine kinderen helpen, kinderen die zij niet kennen, noch dat deze pubers ervaring hebben in het zorgen voor kleine kinderen…… Het ontbreekt de kinderen veelal aan gezond voedsel, waar ze vaak zelfs te weinig te eten krijgen…… De sanitaire voorzieningen zijn smerig, zoals je al begrepen had…..

Uit het
artikel van Saleh, gepubliceerd op The Intercept, aandacht voor
het grote aantal gevallen van isolatie in de gevangenissen van ICE, of in door ICE gehuurde faciliteiten voor oudere vluchtelingen……. Voorts zijn ook hier de sanitaire
voorzieningen smerig en is het eten zonder meer slecht te noemen, zoals gezegd niet zelden met bedorven voedsel……

Het meest schunnige is wel, dat ondanks de grote ophef eerder over het scheiden van ouders en kinderen, deze scheiding nog steeds wordt doorgevoerd, om zo nieuwe vluchtelingen af te schrikken zodat ze niet naar de VS vluchten……

Het voorgaande kan dan ook tot geen andere conclusie leiden dan dat we hier (zoals eerder opgemerkt) te maken hebben met concentratiekampen en dat beste bezoeker kan niet vaak genoeg gezegd worden…….

Overbodig te melden dat e.e.a recht ingaat tegen het VN Vluchtelingenverdrag……

SEN.
CORY BOOKER, D-N.J., is calling on Senate
Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to hold a hearing
into Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s “egregious and
appalling abuses,” including the widespread use of solitary
confinement.

In
a letter to
Graham, Booker, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, referred to
solitary confinement as a “form of torture” and cited a
recent investigation by
the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, The
Intercept, NBC News, and four other reporting partners into ICE’s
use of solitary confinement. Our reporting, which included a review
of more than 8,400 reports describing placement in solitary
confinement from 2012 to early 2017, found that ICE uses isolation as
a go-to tool, rather than a last resort, to punish vulnerable
detained immigrants.

“The
news stories detail numerous examples of individuals placed in
confinement without justification, which prompted a whistleblower to
come forward to shine a light on these abuses,” wrote Booker,
referring to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee Ellen
Gallagher,
who quietly raised the alarm about ICE’s use of solitary
confinement for four years before going public in interviews with the
reporting consortium.

While
different carceral systems use varying terms to describe solitary
confinement — ICE calls it “segregation” — it is generally
understood to be the practice of holding individuals in isolation
with no human contact for at least 22 hours a day.

“ICE’s
own policy seems to recognize the dangers of solitary confinement,”
Booker continued. “It appears ICE has been consistently violating
its own policy on the use of solitary confinement.”

His
letter to Graham comes on the heels of a letter from
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to the acting director of
ICE, demanding
answers about
the agency’s use of solitary confinement and extensively citing our
investigation. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., another member of
the Judiciary Committee, also called for
a hearing into ICE’s use of solitary in response to our
investigation last month. The panel’s Democrats do not have
independent authority to schedule a hearing, hence the request to
Graham.

Booker,
in his letter, said that a Judiciary Committee hearing about ICE
would give the panel a chance to interrogate “grossly unsanitary
conditions at detention facilities,” as well as to gather more
information about forthcoming immigration raids that President Donald
Trump “flippantly alluded to” on Twitter last week. The
president, after announcing that the agency would begin to round up
“millions” of immigrants this week — a
logistically impossible endeavor —
on Saturday put the ICE operation on hold.

Graham,
an anti-immigrant hard-liner and apologist for the Trump
administration’s harsh policies, convened a committee hearing —
at Democrats’ request — in March to investigate Customs and
Border Protection for its actions at the southern border. Graham used
the hearing as an opportunity for fearmongering about
migrants seeking asylum in the United States. The CBP, like ICE,
falls under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security.

The
oversight hearing on CBP was not enough, Booker wrote. “In order to
fully address the scope of ICE’s serious and egregious violations,
the Committee must convene an oversight hearing. It’s becoming
increasingly clear that ICE has become nothing more than a lethal
weapon in the Trump administration’s war on immigrants and
communities of color, and we cannot be silent.”

BOOKER’S
HARSH STANCE against
ICE in the letter to Graham is in line with the tack he’s taken on
the presidential campaign trail, where he’s been a staunch critic
of the agency’s policies. In February, he, along with other 2020
hopefuls Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand,
voted against a spending bill, citing ICE. At the time,
Booker said that
bill would give ICE and CBP “hundreds of millions of additional
dollars with little oversight or appropriate guardrails.” In April,
he reintroduced
legislation to
enact protections for detained immigrants.

Booker has
also been an outspoken advocate of the rights of prisoners throughout
his federal career. At the same time, he’s remained close to a
party boss in his home state who oversees a jail that serves as an
immigration detention center and is rife with abuses, drawing
the ire of local progressives.

As
Politico reported on
Tuesday, Booker will be in New Jersey on Friday for a
$2,800-per-person fundraiser co-hosted by Essex County Executive
Joseph DiVincenzo. In that role, DiVincenzo oversees the Essex County
Correctional Facility in Newark, which has a $40 million per year
contract with ICE — and was called out for poor conditions in two
DHS Inspector General reports just this year.

Twenty-one
progressive organizations last week sent a letter to Booker calling
on him to cancel the fundraiser, Politico reported. “I believe that
Booker wants to make sure that the funnel of money keeps coming
through, and that’s why he’s supporting Joe [DiVincenzo] right
now,” Carrine Murphy, a paralegal who is critical of county jails’
contracts with ICE, told
Politico.

In
February, the Office of Inspector General identified a
number of issues at the jail, including food safety issues, with
“potentially contaminated food being served to detainees.” One
example noted “a detainee in segregation said the food
was so bad that he had started a liquid only diet and was considering
a full hunger strike.”

Earlier
this month, the Inspector General issued a follow-up reportbuilding
on the same inspection and said that “detainees are placed in
disciplinary segregation before the disciplinary hearing panel finds
the detainee guilty of the charged offense.”

The
facility has reported making improvements in its solitary confinement
practices, “including documenting why detainee strip searches
were conducted and revising recreation schedules to add additional
recreation time,” the Inspector General wrote.

The
ICIJ and Intercept investigation found 100 records of placement in
solitary confinement at the Essex County jail from 2013 to early
2017. Twenty-seven of those placements were due to disciplinary
reasons, while three of them were the result of a suicide risk.
Overall, we found at least 373 instances of detained immigrants being
placed in isolation because they were potentially suicidal — and
another 200-plus cases of people already in solitary confinement
moved to “suicide watch” or another form of observation, in many
cases in another solitary cell.

Immigration
is expected to be a hot-button issue throughout the presidential
campaign. Booker and Warren will both participate in the first 2020
Democratic presidential debate in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday night.

VN stuurt bedorven voedsel naar Jemen en beschuldigt de Houthi’s van het tegenhouden van voedselhulp

Om van
uit je vel te springen: de VN heeft meermaals bedorven voedsel en/of voedsel geleverd met daarin dode en/of levende insecten voor de door honger, cholera en difterie geplaagde sjiitische bevolking van Jemen…… Voorts levert het Wereld Voedsel Programma (WFP) medicijnen waarvan de uiterste houdbaarheidsdatum is verstreken…… Het voorgaande doordat er een genocide wordt uitgevoerd op de sjiitische Jemenitische bevolking door de Saoedische terreurcoalitie, gesteund door de VS, GB,
Frankrijk en andere westerse landen……. 

Gebruik van het woord genocide wordt overigens systematisch ontweken door westerse politici en de reguliere westerse media, terwijl alle tekenen daarvoor aanwezig zijn…… Het aantal dodelijke slachtoffers zou intussen de 500.000 zijn overschreden…..

De VN
liet onlangs weten dat de Houthi’s voedselhulp van de VN weigeren,
ofwel de Houthi’s hadden de bevolking bedorven voedsel en niet of slecht werkende medicijnen moeten geven……. (ach ja het gaat hier toch maar om een ‘derde klasse volk….’) Men dacht bij de VN een goed argument te hebben door te zeggen dat de zogenaamde Jemenitische regering in Aden, een regering die in feite een junta is onder leiding van Saoedi-Arabië, hetzelfde voedsel wel toelaat, niet vreemd dat men daar dat voedsel wel toelaat…. 

Het voorgaande is een schending van den onafhankelijkheid die de VN zou moeten betrachten, immers de junta in Aden heeft geen last van de blokkades op land en zee van de Saoedische terreurcoalitie, waar de VS op zee daadwerkelijk meehelpt aan die blokkade……

Volgens Save the Children zijn er 85.000 kinderen overleden ten gevolge van honger, een getal dat men nu al meer dan een jaar hanteert, het werkelijke aantal moet intussen veel hoger liggen……

UN
Sent 24,000 Tons of Infested and Rotten “Aid” to Starving Yemenis

(GPA) — Since
2015, Yemen’s Customs and Consumer Protection has had to either
send back or seize over 24,000 tons of aid determined unfit for
consumption sent from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).
Among the “aid” included 15,000 tons of supplementary food for
pregnant women and medicine.

On
November 6, Yemen’s Port Authority rejected and sent back a vessel
from the World Food Program containing 10,000 tons of white wheat.
After inspection, authorities noticed the wheat was infested with
live insects. A similar incident occurred in February when
authorities inspected a WFP shipment containing 96,000 bags wheat was
not stamped with an expiration or production date.

Another
particularly notable incident took place in May of 2019. At this
time, Yemeni authorities found dead insects inside 8 million
kilograms of wheat. Throughout June, authorities were forced to
reject nearly 130,000 bags of white beans that were either wet,
rotten, or infested with dead insects.

Blaming
Ansarullah Despite Four Years of Blockade

Meanwhile,
the United Nations has attempted to shift blame for their unfit
shipments on the Sana’a government, led by Ansarullah aka. the
“Houthis.”

On
June 20, the UN
announced it
would begin suspending aid shipments to Yemen, citing accusations of
Ansarullah “diverting food” shipments. The UN claimed it had no
problem with the Saudi-backed government in Aden, which likely has no
issue distributing rotten food to its citizens.

According
to the WFP, the suspension of aid is expected to impact 850,000
people.

Yemen
isn’t the only crisis impacted by the UN’s carelessness in
regards to sending disgusting aid shipments. In 2016, the UN
was caught sending
expired food to Somalia meant for victims of a devastating drought.

Yemen
currently faces the world’s worst manmade humanitarian disaster on
the planet and the United Nations has done nothing to stop it.
According to the latest report from ReliefWeb,
80% of Yemen’s population require urgent humanitarian aid to
survive including food, water, and medical supplies.

To
Help Starving Yemenis, Lift the Blockade Immediately

If
the United Nations is serious about helping starving Yemenis, it
could start by lifting the devastating blockade which has turned
Yemen into an open-air prison akin to Gaza.

The
Saudi-led, US-enforced, and UN-condoned land, sea, and air blockade
severely restricts all imports, exports, and the flow of movement.
All aid shipments destined for Yemen are forced to dock in
neighboring countries like Djibouti awaiting inspection from
Saudi-backed authorities while food sits for weeks or months as it
rots in the hot sun.

10
million Yemenis currently
face famine due to the blockade. Meanwhile, pregnant women, the
elderly, children, and patients with chronic diseases also bear the
brunt of the blockade’s effects.

According
to Save
the Children,
over 85,000 children have died of starvation while countless others
await a similar fate.

This
also says nothing about the shortage of lifesaving medications for
children, cancer patients, dialysis patients, diabetics, and pregnant
women. At least 1.1
million pregnant women are
reportedly malnourished, at risk for miscarriage and stillbirth.

The
blockade is all part of the Saudi-led coalition’s strategy to use
starvation and disease as a weapon of war to beat Yemenis into
submission.

In
het hieronder opgenomen artikel van Alexander Rubinstein beschrijft
hij hoe de partij van Guaidó, een nog voor dit jaar onbeduidende oppositiepartij, nu al
wordt geplaagd door verregaande corruptie…. Dit terwijl deze partij
door de VS en de rest van het westen werd gebombardeerd tot de
grootste oppositiepartij en daarmee werd Guaidó gebombardeerd tot
oppositieleider……

Zoals gezegd: voordat
de VS en haar hielenlikkende westerse partners Guaidó tot interim president uitriepen (alsof de VS, Canada, de EU en anderen daartoe gemachtigd zijn…..), was deze figuur bij het grootste deel van het
Venezolaanse volk niet bekend….

Na
alle leugens over Maduro die zijn volk zou uithongeren door zijn
‘desastreuze economisch beleid’, waarbij men hem zelfs beschuldigde
van corruptie (zonder enig bewijs), blijkt nu dat de partij van
Guaidó, Voluntad Popular (‘de wil van het volk’) zich nu al schuldig maakt aan grootschalige corruptie, terwijl het geen regeringsverantwoordelijkheid draagt…..*

popconcert (behoorlijk mislukt overigens) door Richard Branson georganiseerd en dat net over de Venezolaanse grens in Colombia. De
opbrengsten werden gebruikt voor o.a. hotels, prostituees, verdovende
middelen, dure kleding en auto’s….. Opvallend trouwens hoe weinig
reguliere westerse mediaorganen dit nieuws brachten, e.e.a. vooral in een paar regels
ver weg in de krant……

Tja,
als je al maanden leugens verkondigt en Guaidó afschildert als een
held, is het natuurlijk niet leuk om te zien dat de partij van deze
fascistische psychopaat nu al is verwikkeld in corruptie…. Men zegt
nu als verdediging dat het maar een paar figuren uit de partij van
Guaidó zijn, echter reken maar dat dit weer het spreekwoordelijke
topje van de ijsberg is, gezien de manipulaties en het enorme aantal leugens…….

(MPN) — The
political party of Juan Guaido — Voluntad Popular (Popular Will) —
was never all that popular to begin with. The sixth
largest political
party in Venezuela, Popular Will is heavily financed by
the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Now,
a recently exposed embezzlement scandal in Colombia risks to further
alienate the party from the Venezuelan people.

What
was supposed to be Guaido’s watershed moment has instead turned out
to be a public-relations failure far worse than his quickly quelled
attempted military coup, which MintPress
News reported caused
even the New
York Times to
describe Guaido as “deflated.”

What
happened in Colombia appears to be so damning that not only is the
Colombian intelligence service leaking documents exposing wrongdoing
by Popular Will representatives appointed by Guaido, but the
Organization of American States (OAS) — which is typically just as
pro-opposition as the Colombian government — has called for an
investigation.

In
a tweet issued
June 14 at 10:47 p.m. Venezuela time, Guaido called on his ambassador
to Colombia — whom he had shut out of the aid event — to formally
request an investigation by Colombian authorities, whose
already-existing investigation is the reason the story came out in
the first place. That was more than four
hours after
Secretary General of the OAS Luis Almagro called for an investigation
that would clarify the “serious charges,” identify those
responsible and effectuate accountability.

But
Guaido had already been well aware of the charges, having dismissed
his appointees who appear to be ringleaders of the embezzlement
scheme. According to the report, he was contacted by the journalist
who exposed the scandal 30 days before the story was published.

What
happened in Cúcuta isn’t staying in Cúcuta

There’s
barely a peep about the scandal in the Western press. A Google News
search for “Juan Guaido scandal” and “Popular Will scandal”
turned up nothing of relevance at the time of this article’s
writing. But on Latin America social media, everyone is buzzing about
it. American journalist Dan Cohen appears to be the first to
highlight the scandal to an English-speaking audience.

It
started with a request from Juan Guaido to billionaire investor
and regime-change
enthusiast Richard
Branson.

The
stated purpose of the concert was to help raise funds for
humanitarian aid and spotlight the economic crisis. At least that’s
how it was billed to Americans. To Venezuela’s upper class, it
was touted as
the “trendiest concert of the decade.”

It
was to be a congregation of the elite with the ostensible purpose of
raising funds for the poor.

One
director of Popular Will told Vice
News in
2014 that “the bulk of the opposition protesters are from the
middle and upper classes and are led by Venezuela’s elite.” The
class character of the opposition has not changed since.

Meanwhile,
USAID was to coordinate the delivery of aid alongside Guaido; and
Elliot Abrams, who in Guatemala used “humanitarian aid” as cover
for the delivery of weapons into the country, is running the White
House’s policies toward Venezuela. And so the aid was widely
criticized, even by the International Red Cross, as politicized. By
others, it was called a Trojan Horse.

The
concert was held in Colombia across a bridge linking the country to
Venezuela. International media had claimed Venezuelan President
Nicholas Maduro had the bridge shut down to prevent the delivery of
aid, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded that the “Maduro
regime must LET THE AID REACH THE STARVING PEOPLE.” But the bridge,
in fact, has never
been opened for
use.

Nonetheless,
Richard Branson sought to raise $100 million and promised that Guiado
“will be coming to the other side of the bridge with maybe a
million of his supporters.” In the end, it was a little more than
200,000 who came.

Meanwhile,
Guaido told the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque, that more than
1,450 soldiers had defected from the military to join them. But that
figure was also inflated. A new report by PanAmPress, a
Miami-based libertarian newspaper, reveals that it was just 700. “You
can count on your fingers the number of decent soldiers who are
there,” one local told the outlet.

Despite
the low turnout, organizers lived it up in Colombia. Representatives
from Popular Will, which rejects the socialist leadership of
Venezuela, found themselves living like socialites across the border.

There
were earlier signs of excess and debauchery. One Popular Will
representative was hospitalized and his assistant found dead after
overdosing while taking drugs with prostitutes, although Senator
Marco Rubio (R-FL) claims they were poisoned.

The
inflated soldier count meant more funds for the organizers, who were
charged with putting them up in hotel rooms. Guaido’s “army was
small but at this point it had left a very bad impression in Cucuta.
Prostitutes, alcohol, and violence. They demanded and demanded,”
the report said.

They
also left a bad taste in the mouth of the authorities. The Colombian
government was supposed to pay for some of the hotels, the UN High
Commissioner for Refugees was to cover the costs of others, while
Guaido’s people were only going to pony up the cash for two of the
seven hotels.

But
Popular Will never paid, leaving one hotel with a debt of $20,000.
When the situation became completely untenable, the hotel kicked 65
soldiers and their families to the curb. One soldier anonymously told
the outlet that the party was not taking care of their financial
needs as promised.

Guaido’s
ambassador to Colombia took money out of his own pocket to try to
resolve the dispute, but the check bounced.

The
responsibility of taking care of the needs of the defectors went to
Popular Will militants Rossana Barrera and Kevin Rojas, as decreed by
Juan Guaido in a signed statement. They were also charged with
overseeing the humanitarian aid.

Barrera
is the sister-in-law of Popular Will member of Congress Sergio
Vargara, Guaido’s right-hand man. She and Rojas were managing all
the funds.

But
the pair started to live well outside their means, a Colombian
intelligence source told the outlet. “They gave me all the
evidence,” writes PanAmPress reporter Orlando
Avendano. “Receipts that show excesses, some strangely from
different check books, signed the same day but with identical writing
styles.”

Rojas
and Berrera were spending nearly a thousand dollars at a time in the
hotels and nightclubs. Similar amounts were spent at times on
luxurious dinners and fancy drinks. They went on clothes shopping
sprees at high-end retail outlets in the capital. They reportedly
overcharged the fund on vehicle rentals and the hotels, making off
with the extra cash. Berrera even told Popular Will that she was
paying for all seven hotels, not just the two. And they provided
Guaido with the fake figure of more than 1,450 military defectors
that needed accommodation.

In
order to keep the funds flowing, Rojas and Berrera pitched a benefit
dinner for the soldiers to Guiado’s embassy in Colombia. But when
the embassy refused to participate, Berrera created a fake email
address posing as a representative of the embassy, sending
invitations to Israeli and U.S. diplomats. They canceled the event
after Guaido’s embassy grew wise to the scheme and alerted those
invited.

“The
whole government of Colombia knew about it: the intelligence
community, the presidency, and the foreign ministry,”
writes PanAmPress,
calling it an “open secret” by the time Guaido dismissed the
pair. But that was after Guaido had been defending them staunchly,
trying to avoid a firing by transferring responsibilities to the
embassy.

Berrera
was called to the embassy for a financial audit, represented by Luis
Florido, a founding member of Popular Will. She turned in just a
fraction of the records uncovered by Colombian intelligence,
accounting for only $100,000 in expenditures. “The [real] amount is
large,” the outlet reports, citing an intelligence agent who says
far more was blown.

Meanwhile,
“at least 60 percent of the food donated” by foreign governments
“was damaged.”

“The
food is rotten, they tell me,” the PanAmPress reporter
said, adding that he was shown photographs. “They don’t know how
to deal with it without causing a scandal. I suppose they will burn
it.”

It
isn’t yet known exactly how much was embezzled by Popular Will, but
it is likely the truth will come out in due time, and more
investigations are likely underway. On Monday, Venezuelan defectors
said they will hold a press conference in Cucuta, showcasing more
corruption by Popular Will. For now, however, the fallout remains to
be seen.

Guaidone?

One
thing is certain: the scandal threatens to end Juan Guaido’s 15
minutes of fame. The de facto opposition leader had little name
recognition inside Venezuela and never won a political position with
more than 100,000 votes behind him. But the overnight sensation never
had a lengthy life expectancy anyway.

Though
he received so few votes (Venezuela’s population is nearly 32
million), Guaido became the president of the National Assembly
because the body is controlled by a coalition of opposition groups,
despite President Nicolas Maduro’s PSUV Party being the largest in
the country. That was in January, and the length of the term lasts
only one year. In 2015, the opposition coalition decided that after
each term, the seat would be rotated to a representative of a
different opposition party. While there is no law barring Guaido from
being appointed president of the National Assembly again, tradition
runs counter to it and another party may want to seize on a chance to
get into the limelight.

Supporters
of the coup — and Guaido’s self-declaration as interim president
— claim that Maduro is derelict of his duties, which justifies a
transition of presidential power according to the constitution. But
the article that allows for such a transition in certain cases
stipulates that ”a new election by universal suffrage and direct
ballot shall be held within 30 consecutive days.”

To
date, Guaido has run 145 days past his deadline to have elections
held, and the opposition has made
it clear they
are not willing to accept new elections if Maduro runs.

This,
of course, makes little dent in Guaido’s legitimacy in the eyes of
the U.S. and other countries that have recognized his presidency.
U.S. allies in Latin America have shown over the past few years that
they have little regard for the sanctity of their constitutions. In
2017, a U.S.-backed candidate in Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez,
ran for re-election in explicit violation of that country’s
constitution and only wound up winning through fraud. Last week,
Ecuador made the decision to allow the U.S. military to operate from
an airfield in the Galapagos Islands despite a constitutional
provision stating that the “establishment of foreign military bases
or foreign facilities for military purposes shall not be allowed.”

Reuters houdt rapport tegen over 40.000 Venezolaanse doden door VS sancties

Reuters heeft willens en wetens een maand lang een rapport
tegengehouden waarin werd aangegeven dat de sancties van de VS tegen
het soevereine Venezuela vanaf augustus 2017 intussen aan 40.000
Venezolanen (inclusief veel kinderen…) het leven heeft gekost, ofwel deze mensen zijn vermoord
door illegale acties van de VS, illegaal daar de VN Veiligheidsraad
hier geen toestemming voor heeft gegeven………

Het is
om doodmoe van te worden, de terreur die de VS op dagelijkse basis
uitoefent tegen een aantal landen die haar niet welgevallig zijn. Hoe
is het mogelijk dat zelfs de reguliere media, die de ene leugen van
de VS na de andere herhalen, dit weten en desondanks door blijven gaan nieuwe leugens te herhalen…… Sterker nog als sociale media
die leugens doorprikken heeft men in de reguliere (massa-) media het gore lef te stellen dat deze sociale media nepnieuws (fake news) brengen, of zelfs samenzweringstheorieën in de wereld brengen…….. De reden daarvoor, één die ik al
meerdere keren heb gehoord uit de mond van ‘journalisten’ en
politici, is dat de VS onze bondgenoot is en er dus geen reden is aan
haar beschuldigingen te twijfelen, zoals de laatste beschuldigingen aan het adres van Iran,
na aanvallen op 2 olietankers in de Golf van Oman….* 

Eerder leidden dit soort leugens zelfs tot illegale oorlogen van de VS tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië, waar de VS uiteindelijk ook verantwoordelijk is voor de oorlog in Oekraïne, immers de opstand die tot de coup tegen de democratisch gekozen president Janoekovytsj leidde, werd door Hillary Clinton (minister van BuZa onder Obama) gefinancierd met 4 miljard dollar (!!) en voor een groot deel uitgevoerd onder regie en hoogstwaarschijnlijk deelname van de CIA……

Reuters meldt vooral vanuit het zieke gezichtspunt van de Trump administratie, dus vooral anti-Maduro en men geeft hem dan ook de schuld voor de ontstane desastreuze economische situatie in Venezuela….. Waar het voor een ieder die er 2 minuten tijd insteekt, duidelijk zal zijn dat de sancties en eerdere economische oorlog van de VS de grote boosdoeners zijn (en zoals je begrijpt, daarmee is de VS de werkelijke dader)……..

Zojuist schreef ik over een eerdere economische oorlog tegen Venezuela, daar de terreur van de VS op dit gebied niet van vandaag of gisteren is…… Voordat de VS de zogenaamde officiële sancties tegen Venezuela afkondigde. voerde het een geheime economische oorlog tegen Venezuela, al onder Obama en Bush……. Onder Obama werden VS winkelketens met winkels in Venezuela te verstaan gegeven hun voorraden zo mogelijk aan te vullen en ook de farmaceutische industrie werd te verstaan gegeven zo min mogelijk te leveren aan Venezuela (de VS heeft zelfs 5 miljard dollar van Venezuela dat in de VS was gereserveerd voor de aankoop van medicijnen en medische apparatuur, geblokkeerd voor gebruik door de Venezolaanse autoriteiten….. Tegelijk meldt de VS dat Maduro het volk medicijnen onthoudt…..)

Nogmaals: Reuters wist dat de VS sancties de economie van Venezuela ernstig hebben geschaad en schaden, maar hield een rapport daarover onder de pet….. Reuters zou een onafhankelijk nieuwsorgaan zijn, echter ook dat blijkt eens te meer onzin te zijn……

emailed Stephanie Nebehay of Reuters on
May 22 about her article, “Venezuela Turns to Russia, Cuba, China
in Health Crisis” (5/22/19).
Her article depicted the impact of US sanctions as an allegation that
Venezuelan government officials are alone in making.

         

Reuters
(5/22/19)
attributes the idea that US sanctions are causing a health crisis in
Venezuela to Venezuelan Health Minister Carlos Alvarado.

The
article stated:

The
opposition blames [medical shortages] on economic incompetence and
corruption by the leftist movement in power for two decades, but
[President Nicolás] Maduro says US economic sanctions are the cause.

I
asked why the piece made no mention of a study (CEPR, 4/25/19)
released a month earlier by economists Mark Weisbrot and Jeffrey
Sachs, which directly linked US sanctions to 40,000 deaths in
Venezuela since August of 2017.

Her
reply to me on May 23 was quite telling:

I
was not aware of that study, but am now and will bear in mind.

It
would indeed have been impossible for a Reuters reporter
to be aware of the study if they depended only on Reuters articles
to keep informed. The news agency hadn’t mentioned the study since
it was released, never mind written an article about it.

I
asked a contact I have at Reuters about this, and he
was also surprised that Reuters hadn’t even
mentioned the study. He suggested I query some of Reuters’
Venezuela-based reporters, which I did a few days later.

In
my email to them, I passed along a list of
news articles since August 2017, when Trump first dramatically
intensified economic
sanctions, that described worsening economic conditions.

I
also noted that though the Sachs/Weisbrot study was ignored
by Reuters,
it had been intensely debated
in public by
Venezuelan opposition economists (i.e., the kind of
people Reuters and
other Western media actually pay attention to on Venezuela).

CEPR compared oil
production in Venezuela and neighboring Colombia to illustrate the
impact of US sanctions.

The
Brookings Institution published a few rebuttals to the study
(here and here),
which I also pointed out to Reuters. The objections Brookings made were essentially already
addressed by
Weisbrot and Sachs in response to other critics.

On
June 9, Reuters finally
mentioned the study, at the end of an article by
Nebehay, who is based in Geneva:

One
study in April, co-authored by US economists Jeffrey Sachs and Mark
Weisbrot, blamed sanctions for causing more deaths and
disproportionately hitting the most vulnerable.

“We
find that the sanctions have inflicted, and increasingly inflict,
very serious harm to human life and health, including an estimated
more than 40,000 deaths from 2017–2018,” they said, arguing they
were illegal under international law.

Nevertheless,
since the day Nebehay replied to me, Reuters has
continued to portray the severe impact of US sanctions as an
allegation that only Maduro and other Venezuelan officials have made.
It was even done by Reuters in
an article published
June 10, the day after the wire service finally mentioned the study:

The
government of President Nicolás Maduro says Venezuela’s economic
problems are caused by US sanctions that have crippled the OPEC
member’s export earnings and blocked it from borrowing from abroad.

         

Reuters
(6/1/19)
treats the idea that US sanctions are responsible for deaths in
Venezuela as an allegation made by Maduro–placing it after the
statement, “The opposition has blamed their deaths on President
Nicolás Maduro, whose socialist administration has presided over the
collapse of the once-wealthy nation’s economy and severe reductions
in healthcare spending.” 

Other
instances of Reuters representing the idea that US
sanctions work as they are intended to do—in other words, that they
hurt the Venezuelan economy—as an allegation made by Maduro or his
government:

  • “He
    [President Maduro] says the country’s economic problems are the
    result of an ‘economic war’ led by his political adversaries
    with the help of Washington.” (    5/23/19)

  • “Maduro,
    who maintains control over state institutions, calls Guaidó a
    puppet of Washington and blames US sanctions for a hyperinflationary
    economic meltdown and humanitarian crisis.” (    5/26/19;
    repeated almost verbatim,     5/28/19)

  • “Maduro’s
    government, however, says US-imposed sanctions were responsible for
    the children’s deaths, by freezing funds allocated to buy medicine
    and send the children to Italy for treatment under the 2010
    agreement.” (    6/1/19)

  • “Maduro
    blames the situation on an ‘economic war’ waged by his political
    adversaries as well as US sanctions that have hobbled the oil
    industry and prevented his government from borrowing abroad.”
    (    6/7/19)

  • “Maduro
    says Venezuela is victim of an ‘economic war’ led by the
    opposition with the help of Washington, which has levied several
    rounds of sanctions against his government.” (    6/7/19)

Two
recent articles by Reuters, however, stated the obvious
about the most recent US sanctions that were implemented in 2019:

  • “Venezuela
    is in the midst of a years-long economic and humanitarian crisis
    that has deepened since the United States imposed sanctions on the
    country’s oil industry in January as part of an effort to oust
    Socialist President Nicolás Maduro in favor of opposition leader
    Juan Guaidó.” (    6/7/19)

  • “Venezuela’s
    oil exports dropped 17 percent in May because of the sanctions.”
    (    6/6/19)

But
the study Reuters belatedly mentioned shows that US
sanctions have been devastating to Venezuela’s economy, and
seriously aggravating the humanitarian crisis, since August 2017.

Apologists
for Trump always rush to say that Venezuela’s depression began
years before Trump’s sanctions—as if that made it acceptable to
deliberately worsen a humanitarian crisis. To tweak an
analogy Caitlin
Johnstone used,
think of a defense attorney saying, “Your Honor, I will show that
the victim was already in intensive care when my client began to
assault him.”

Moreover,
as Steve Ellner recently discussed,
US support for an insurrectionist opposition in Venezuela goes back
over a decade before the crisis, and was a factor in causing it.
Economic sanctions Obama introduced in 2015 were also
harmful—Weisbrot (The
Hill, 11/6/16)
in 2016 called them “ugly and belligerent enough to keep many
investors from investing in Venezuela and to raise the country’s
cost of borrowing”—even before Trump’s dramatic escalation of
economic warfare that they paved the way for.

Putting
aside a study by prominent US economists, the “Maduro says”
formulation is also inexcusable because US Sen. Marco Rubio, who has
been widely
reported as
a major influence on Trump’s Venezuela policy, gleefully tweeted on
May 16 that Maduro “can’t access funds to rebuild electric grid.”

Rubio
didn’t pretend he was referring to an imaginary electric grid used
exclusively by Maduro. Reuters (5/30/19)
has itself referred to Rubio as the “leading voice in the crafting
of President Donald Trump’s Venezuela policy,” in a lengthy piece
about US sanctions that said absolutely nothing about their impact on
the general population, implying throughout that sanctions only
impacted Maduro and other officials. (“Being blacklisted also
crimps the lifestyle of Venezuelan officials’
families,” Reuters reported.)

My
fellow FAIR contributor, Alan MacLeod, interviewed many
Venezuela-based journalists for his book Bad
News From Venezuela.
He wrote last year (FAIR.org,
 5/24/18):

Media
copy and paste from news organizations like Reuters and Associated
Press (AP), which themselves employ many cheaper local journalists.

In
Venezuela, these journalists are not neutral actors, but come from
the highly partisan local media, affiliated with the opposition,
leading to a situation where Western newsrooms see themselves as an
ideological spearhead against Maduro, “the resistance” to the
government.

Even
worse than being the “resistance” to Maduro is that Reuters has
often made itself the “assistance” to politicians like Rubio, who
are vicious enough to celebrate the
economic strangulation of millions of people.

Reuters may
carry on as if it had never reported the study by Weisbrot and Sachs.
Western media outlets are perfectly willing to ignore their own
reporting when it suits powerful interests (Extra!
Update, 10/02).
It is therefore up to all of us to not be passive consumers of news,
and continually bear in mind that the news we are getting about
official enemies may be less than half the story.

Het westen vervolgt journalist Assange, Rusland laat journalist vrij na onrust over diens gevangenschap

Ongelofelijk
weer: het westen vervolgd onderzoeksjournalist Assange voor het doen van zijn
werk, waar datzelfde westen constant een grote bek heeft over de
persvrijheid in Rusland, het land dat onlangs onderzoeksjournalist Ivan Golunov vrijliet, nadat er grote onrust ontstond onder een deel van het volk
over diens arrestatie……*

De BBC is de zendgemachtigde die tegenwoordig totaal afhankelijk is van de overheid, de zender die met grote graagte het inhumane neoliberalisme steunt en die geen probleem heeft om hele bergen fake nieuws (nepnieuws) te verspreiden en/of met andere desinformatie het volk manipuleert, om zo illegale oorlogen van ‘een legitiem randje’ te voorzien (dat hebben deze oorlogen uiteraard niet)…. Dezelfde BBC had een grote
bek over de arrestatie in Rusland van journalist Golunov, terwijl dezelfde BBC niet anders
heeft gedaan dan journalist Assange besmeuren met leugens en achterklap……..

Buiten
de in feite al langdurige gevangenschap van Assange, immers hij was al een
gevangene in de ambassade van Ecuador, ook volgens de VN, dat na
onderzoek concludeerde dat Assange zelfs geestelijk en fysiek is
gemarteld**, is er ook de censuur op de alternatieve media vanwege zogenaamd fake news…..’ Het voorgaande terwijl de
reguliere media de laatste 19 jaar voor een groot deel aantoonbaar
nepnieuws hebben verspreid en het publiek hebben gemanipuleerd middels
andere desinformatie……..

Het
kantelpunt nadert waar je beter journalist in Rusland kan zijn dan in
het westen, althans als je je gedraagt als een echte journalist, waar
deze beroepsgroep vertegenwoordigd in de reguliere westerse media dat
voor het grootste deel al lang niet meer doen…… (zeker als het gaat over politiek of door het westen, lees de VS met de NAVO aan de lijn,
begonnen illegale oorlogen…….)

Russian
authorities arrested investigative
journalist Ivan Golunov on a suspicious drug charge last week. But a
public outcry forced the
government to drop the charges. The fact that this occurred in
“authoritarian”
Russia, while WikiLeaks publisher
Julian Assange faces major persecution in
the West, is a shocking indictment of both our judicial system and
media establishment.

Public outcry

In
past years, Golunov built a reputation for revealing high-end
corruption in
Russia. As a result, many people were suspicious about his arrest,
siding with the journalist’s lawyer – who arguedthat
the drugs were planted.

Following
his arrest, three of Russia’s leading newspapers printed headline
news stories defending the journalist. The front-page
spreads read “We
are Ivan Golunov”. Activists, meanwhile, made plans for
a demonstration on 12 June.

“Serious embarrassment”

In
its report on his arrest,
the BBC highlighted
that “Russia is ranked 83rd out of 100 countries for press freedom
by Freedom House”. It also claimed that the “case was becoming a
serious embarrassment for the Russian authorities”.

UK
foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, meanwhile, wrote:

Very
concerned by arrest of Russian investigative journalist, Ivan Golunov
of @meduzaproject.
Journalists must be free to hold power to account without fear of
retribution. We are following his case
closely. #FreeGolunov #DefendMediaFreedom

There
are obvious concerns for press freedom in Russia. But the UK
government clearly has zero moral authority to pontificate on the
matter. As UN torture expert Nils Melzer recently saidin
relation to Assange:

In
20 years of work with victims of war, violence and political
persecution I have never seen a group of democratic States ganging up
to deliberately isolate, demonise and abuse a single individual for
such a long time and with so little regard for human dignity and the
rule of law.

Perhaps
most revealing is the difference in the media’s reaction to
Assange’s persecution in the West and that of Golunov in Russia.
While Assange has been consistently smeared,
degraded, and mocked across the Western media, Russia’s news
cycle focused on
Golunov’s arrest; and many journalists actually defended him. In
the words of journalist Bryan MacDonald:

this
was unprecedented and rubbishes the usual US/UK drivel about there
being no press freedom in Russia.

Both
events have exposed Western journalists as locked in a lazy and vapid
group-think. And as Melzer told The
Canary,
they have done their readers a major disservice:

It
is a bit like being served poisoned junk food at a restaurant – a
betrayal of trust with potentially serious consequences.

Solidarity
among journalists

An
important issue at stake is solidarity among journalists against
assaults on press freedom. After Daniel Ellsberg began publishing the
now infamous Pentagon
Papers,
US president Richard Nixon tried to use the moment to crack down
on critical journalists.
Nixon’s justice department cited the Espionage Act to block the New
York Times from
publishing further documents. But as Bruce Shapiro recounts:

reporters
and editors at the [Washington] Post defiantly
obtained and published their own copy of the documents; other news
outfits rallied round; and ultimately the US Supreme Court upheld
the Times’
and the Post’s
First Amendment right to publish without prior government restraint.

Nixon
played his hand hoping for minimal public outcry against his
administration’s attack on the first amendment. And as this case
revealed, the law is only as strong as those left willing to defend
it.

Shapiro continued:

Like
Nixon, Trump has no obvious interest in prosecuting leaks of
years-old controversies that damage the reputation of a past
administration. But like Nixon, he will seize any opportunity to
weaken an independent press.

Trump
also understands—better than Nixon did—American journalism’s
chronic lack of solidarity.

Ultimately,
any journalist or politician that sides with Golunov but not Assange
(or vice versa) should not be taken seriously.
