Catalaanse politici tot lange straffen veroordeeld voor het houden van een referendum en dat in een ‘democratie…’

Ongelofelijk de straffen die politici en activisten voor Catalaanse onafhankelijkheid kregen opgelegd voor het uitschrijven en houden van een referendum dat tot onafhankelijkheid van Catalonië had moeten leiden…. Een referendum is het gereedschap voor het volk om de politiek bij de democratische les te houden, in dit geval de wens onafhankelijk te worden van Spanje, een wens die al een paar honderd jaar leeft in dat deel van wat we Spanje noemen…..

De destijds vicepresident van de Catalaanse regering, Oriol Junqueras, kreeg de zwaarste straf, maar ‘liefst’ 13 jaar……

Het is duidelijk dat ondanks de dood van Franco, intussen al bijna 44 jaar terug, het Spaanse rechtssysteem voor een belangrijk deel doorrijdt op de dictatoriale weg….. Gelukkig komt het Catalaanse volk massaal in opstand!

De voormalige president van Catalonië, Carles Puigdemont vluchtte tijdens de arrestatie van zijn collega’s gelukkig naar België, arrestaties gelast door de destijds corrupte rechtse Spaanse regering……. Gisteren heeft een rechter een internationaal uitleveringsbevel doen uitgaan voor Puigdemont en andere politici van zijn partij die zoals gezegd terecht het land zijn ontvlucht (zeker als je de straffen ziet die werden uitgedeeld….)…..
Hoe kan het uitschrijven en houden van een referendum een misdaad zijn in een ‘democratie…???’

Opvallend ook: al dagen voor de uitspraak heeft Spanje een paar duizend extra politieagenten naar de Catalaanse regio gestuurd, ofwel de uitslag was van tevoren bekend…… Ongelofelijk ook…..
Leve het Catalaanse volk en de decentralisatie van macht!!

Het centraliseren van macht is de dood in de pot en kan uiteindelijk maar tot één vorm van macht leiden, een autocratische en dat in de vorm van een dictatuur of politiestaat….. Zie en hoor wat een groot deel van de EU politici over de Brexit* en eerder over Catalonië durfden en durven te zeggen……. De EU waar we zelfs niet democratisch mogen stemmen op de politici die we wensen…….

Lullig, maar bij mijn weten is de reactie van Nicola Sturgeon, de Schotse premier, de enige negatieve reactie op de veroordelingen door politici uit EU-lidstaten (en reken maar dat men in Brussel blij is met de veroordelingen, al zou dit zomaar om kunnen draaien als blijkt dat het Catalaanse volk tot het uiterste zal gaan tegen de veroordeling van de door hen democratisch gekozen politici, ofwel de veroordeling van deze politici zal alleen leiden tot de groei van de onafhankelijkheidsbeweging in Catalonië en wellicht ook elders…..) Met die groei zal ook het fanatisme groeien, daar kan je zeker van zijn, de politie doet al goed haar best om dat te bereiken, dit vanwege het geweld dat agenten tegen de demonstranten gebruiken……

A dozen Catalan politicians and activists have been convicted on charges of sedition, misuse of public funds and disobedience for their role in a failed secession attempt for the northeastern region of Spain in 2017. The trial is considered the most important for the country since democracy was restored following the death of fascist dictator General Francisco Franco in 1975.
Profound and long-lasting repercussions
Former regional vice president Oriol Junqueras received the heaviest sentence of 13 years in prison for sedition.
Ex-Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, meanwhile, had left Spain along with others in October 2017 and successfully fought extradition from Germany and Belgium. But now, a Spanish Supreme Court judge has issued an international arrest warrant for him following the sentencing of his pro-independence colleagues. Judge Pablo Llarena issued the request on charges of sedition and misuse of public funds.
There are more separatist leaders wanted by Spanish law in Belgium, Switzerland, and Britain.

In addition to Junqueras, eight more figures – including former members of the Catalan cabinet, the ex-speaker of the Catalan parliament, and two leaders of separatist grassroots groups – received sentences ranging from nine to 12 years. Three more were fined but will not go to prison.

The verdict’s political and social repercussions promise to be profound and long-lasting.

The trial
In October 2017, the separatist leaders of northeastern Catalonia tried to break the region away from the rest of Spain and create a new European state by declaring independence. The attempt failed when it received no international recognition and Spain’s government intervened and fired the regional government. The separatist leaders convicted on Monday were arrested while other associates fled the country.
The trial of the dozen leaders who remained in Spain featured more than 500 witnesses and 50 nationally televised hearings. At the heart of the case was the 1 October 2017 referendum that the Catalan government pushed to hold even after it was ordered not to by Spain’s highest court.
Thousands of additional police sent to the region clashed with voters in a day that separatists have vowed never to forget.

Most Catalans who did not want to sever centuries-old ties with the rest of Spain stayed home, and the “Yes” vote won. The Catalan parliament then declared independence on 27 October, setting off the worst political crisis in Spain in decades.
The defence argued that the leaders of the secessionist movement were carrying out the will of roughly half of the 7.5 million residents of Catalonia who want to go their own way.
The ruling’s impact
The jailed leaders have become a powerful symbol for separatists, who saw their pre-trial jailing for nearly two years as unfair. Many sympathisers wear yellow ribbons pinned to their clothes as a sign of protest.
Catalan separatists for several years have held largely peaceful rallies that can reach several hundreds of thousands of people. Some activists have also disrupted traffic and trains, and police have clashed with them on numerous occasions.
Hard-line independence supporters like current Catalan regional president Quim Torra have said that the social uproar over the verdict could create a second opportunity to attempt a break with
Spain. Other separatists support calling an early regional election in Catalonia to channel expected separatist anger into more votes for their parties.
But with its most charismatic leaders behind bars or fugitives abroad, the independence movement is going through its most difficult stage since it revved up at the start of the decade.

The verdict also comes during the build-up to a second Spanish national election this year. On 10 November, the Catalan question will be one of the top issues. And given the fragmentation of the national parliament, the Catalan separatist parties could very easily hold the key to forming a new government for Spain.
The verdict cannot be appealed against. The defence, however, can bring a violation of basic rights complaint to Spain’s Constitutional Court, and from there the case could be taken to the European Court of Human Rights. Spain’s government can also issue pardons. A pardon, however, needs to be requested formally after a conviction and by showing repentance. Some of the convicted leaders have already said they will not ask for one. Any Spanish prime minister who granted one, meanwhile, would be applauded by many Catalans but slammed by political rivals across Spain.

Historicus spreekt schande over gebrek aan onderzoek door reguliere media naar Britse banden met dictaturen

Mark Curtis, een historicus maakt zich flink pissig over het gebrek van de reguliere media om de Britse regering te confronteren met haar groeiende banden met repressieve regimes, ofwel dictaturen. Curtis begrijpt het niet helemaal, maar de media in GB (en de rest van het westen) zijn er vooral om de bestaande neoliberale status quo te bewaren, maar dat terzijde……
De Britse minister van internationale ontwikkeling. Andrew Murrison, heeft gesteld dat GB een sterke partner is van ‘de Egyptische reis’ die tot economische hervormingen* moet leiden…… De Britse regering ondersteunt momenteel 16 projecten in Egypte, inclusief het UK Action Against Corruption Programme (UAACP)…….. Voorts werkt GB ook op het gebied van ‘veiligheid’ samen met Egypte……
De neoliberale Britse regering had zelfs het gore lef te stellen dat de Egyptische overgang naar democratie de potentie heeft om een voorbeeld in de regio te zijn….. (als het gvd niet zo’n enorme puinhoop was in Egypte wat betreft de schendingen van mensenrechten, executies enz., zou je je daadwerkelijk doodlachen……)
In 2013 heeft het Egyptische leger bij de coup van al-Sisi 900 mensen vermoord en meer dan 1.000 mensen (van licht tot zwaar) verwond……
De Egyptische overheid martelt, verkracht en dood tegenstanders en ondanks dat steunen westerse landen, waaronder Nederland de Egyptische dictatuur….. De VS is de grootste ‘donor’ van de bloedige dictatuur in Egypte en geeft het land jaarlijks 1 miljard aan militaire hulp……. GB steekt in totaal 67 miljoen pond in Egypte en dat voor 16 projecten……

En dan durft het westen nog steeds een grote bek over de democratisch gekozen Syrische president Assad te hebben en dat op basis van leugens, terwijl in Egypte de mensenrechten openlijk worden geschonden, een land dat de ene misdaad tegen de menselijkheid na de andere begaat…….

An ‘ever-growing partnership’ amid corruption allegations
The 15 September announcement quoted international development minister Andrew Murrison calling the UK “a strong partner of Egypt and its economic reform journey” and speaking of “our ever-growing economic partnership”. Indeed, the British government currently has 16 ‘active projects’ in Egypt, including the UK Action Against Corruption Programme ([UAACP] with a budget of £39,126,318) and two Egypt Country Programmes (with a combined budget of £27,992,471).
The latter pledge to “support Egypt’s economic reform agenda in support of the IMF [International Monetary Fund] programme”, and also involves “security cooperation”.

Elsewhere, the UK government has said:

Egypt’s transition to a democratic state has the potential to be the role model for many other states in the region.

At the moment, however, Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is facing allegations from a former military contractor that he has spent “millions of dollars of public money on palaces, villas, and hotels”. And as academic Dalia Fahmy told Middle East Eye:

This comes at a time of [IMF-backed] austerity programmes in Egypt, the rising cost of basic goods, and at a time where President Sisi has asked the average Egyptian to sacrifice even more for the future of the country…

For the average Egyptian to see state funds misappropriated to bankroll the building of luxury homes for the president and his family during times of austerity, that seems to cut deeper than the revelation of government corruption.

El-Sisi has denied misusing public funds.
“Unprecedented levels of repression” (and Western support)
In an open letter to the UN Human Rights Council on 17 September, 18 organisations (including Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders) insisted:

Since the last review of Egypt’s record in 2014, human rights violations have increased sharply and the undersigned organisations and our partners have documented unprecedented levels of repression against human rights organisations and human rights defenders.

As signatory Human Rights Watch explained:

The organizations made a series of recommendations concerning the death penalty, torture, violence against women and girls, detention of activists and rights defenders, and a crackdown on freedom of expression and assembly, among other human rights violations.

Despite the above, the UK isn’t the only “strong partner” of el-Sisi’s regime. The US is also a major long-term supporter of the state. As Reuters reported in 2015, “Egypt is the second-largest recipient of U.S. military assistance after Israel”. In fact, it routinely gets over a billion dollars in military aid each year.
Earlier this month, the US released $1.3bn in military aid. An official memo “waived human rights conditions” despite admitting that el-Sisi has “restricted freedom of expression”, “actively prevented civil dissent and cut down on democratic reforms”. The Egyptian government also approved constitutional changes in April which could see el-Sisi stay on as president until 2030 while increasing his “power over the judiciary”. In 2014, 47.5% of Egypt’s eligible voters participated in an election where the vast majority elected him as president. Then, in the 2018 elections, only 41% of voters turned up to vote – again handing him an overwhelming victory.
When will the media hold our governments to account?
El-Sisi overthrew Egypt’s democratically-elected government in a military coup in 2013. Weeks later, he oversaw a state massacre of civilians. This caused over 900 deaths and injured over 1,000 people. And as Al Jazeera reported in August 2019, “no one has ever been brought to trial and the Egyptian government has yet to transparently investigate the massacre”.
Despite the allegations of corruption and mass repression, however, Western support remains.
The US still gives el-Sisi’s regime vast amounts of military aid; and the UK continues to sell it weapons. They do exactly the same with many other brutal regimes around the world. And amazingly, they still act like they have the moral authority to lecture other nations on democracy and human rights.
You’ll see almost no coverage of this in the corporate media, though. Because that wouldn’t be good for business.
We deserve so much better – from both our politicians and our media. And we’ll only get that when we stand up and demand better.

De FED loopt op haar laatste benen, het rentemiddel werkt niet aldus Ron Paul

Ron Paul schreef het boek ‘End the Fed’ en het hieronder opgenomen artikel waarin het instituut met zijn naam, het Ron Paul Institute, ingaat op de uitspraak van Paul dat we de laatste dagen van de FED naderen…. (FED = Federal Reserve, de centrale bank van de VS)
Paul is bepaald geen fan van de FED, zoals je wellicht al wist en hij stelt dan ook dat de FED met haar beleid van het terugbrengen van rentes ruimschoots heeft bewezen dat dit niet werkt, maar daar desondanks mee doorgaat… Hij stelt zelfs dat de FED de belichaming is van een populaire definitie van waanzin: telkens dezelfde actie nemen en dan verschillende resultaten verwachten….. Paul betoogt dat renteverlagingen niet helpen en wijst daarbij op het beleid van de FED sinds 2008, een beleid dat geen werkelijke economische groei bewerkstelligde, of zelfs maar een nieuwe recessie kan voorkomen…….
In de EU is het niet anders, de ECB doet in feite hetzelfde als de FED en verwacht daarvoor economische groei…… Een beleid dat niet ten dienste staat van de grootste bevolkingsgroep in de EU, maar dat de aandeelhouders en de grote bedrijven bevoordeelt….. De pensioenfondsen konden voorheen op een rente van zo’n 4% rekenen en o.a. daarmee werd aan de verplichtingen voldaan, terwijl er nu pensioenfondsen zijn die al een te lage buffer hebben om te kunnen voldoen aan haar verplichting, het beloofde pensioen uitkeren aan deelnemers…..

Met de hervorming van het pensioenstelsel wil men deze fondsen nog meer ruimte geven om te gokken op de aandelenbeurs, de dood in de pot, daar we om de zoveel jaar met een crisis te maken hebben en deze fondsen op die momenten enorme kapitalen verliezen…….

Zelfs de banken klagen over het verlagen van de rente en zien een eventuele negatieve rente (dus dat je als spaarder de bank moet betalen voor jouw spaargeld..) als nachtmerrie en toch vervolgt men de ingeslagen doodlopende weg…….. Vergeet hierbij niet dat de banken een dubieuze rol spelen, immers zij adviseren klanten ook wat betreft de aan- en verkoop van aandelen, voorts beleggen de grote banken zelf ook in aandelen…….
Het is zonder meer een schande dat een (ondemocratische) ‘volksvertegenwoordiging’ als die van de EU, juist niet de belangen het volk behartigt, maar die van de grote bedrijven, hun aandeelhouders en de welgestelden……

The author of a book called “End the Fed,” Ron Paul is certainly no fan of the Federal Reserve.
And in his latest weekly column, Paul says we are nearing the end of days for the U.S. central bank.
Ron Paul: We Are Witnessing the Final Days of the Fed

Per the Ron Paul Institute:

The Federal Reserve, responding to concerns about the economy and the stock market, and perhaps to criticisms by President Trump, recently changed course on interest rates by cutting its “benchmark” rate from 2.25% to 2%. President Trump responded to the cut in already historically low rates by attacking the Fed for not committing to future rate cuts.


The Fed’s action is an example of a popular definition of insanity: doing the same action over and over again and expecting different results. After the 2008 market meltdown, the Fed launched an unprecedented policy of near-zero interest rates and “quantitative easing.” Both failed to produce real economic growth. The latest rate cut is unlikely to increase growth or avert a major economic crisis.

 It is not a coincidence that the Fed’s rate cut came along with Congress passing a two-year budget deal that increases our already $22-trillion-dollars national debt and suspends the debt ceiling. The increase in government debt increases the pressure on the Fed to keep interest rates artificially low so the federal government’s interest payments do not increase to unsustainable levels.

President Trump’s tax and regulatory policies have had some positive effects on economic growth and job creation. However, these gains are going to be short-lived because they cannot offset the damage caused by the explosion in deficit spending and the Federal Reserve’s resulting monetization of the debt. President Trump has also endangered the global economy by imposing tariffs on imports from the US’s largest trading partners including China. This has resulted in a trade war that is hurting export-driven industries such as agriculture.
President Trump recently imposed more tariffs on Chinese imports, and China responded to the tariffs by devaluing its currency. The devaluation lowers the price consumers pay for Chinese goods, partly offsetting the effect of the tariffs.

The US government responded by labeling China a currency manipulator, a charge dripping with hypocrisy since, thanks to the dollar’s world reserve currency status, the US is history’s greatest currency manipulator. Another irony is that China’s action mirrors President Trump’s continuous calls for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.
While no one can predict when or how the next economic crisis will occur, we do know the crisis is coming unless, as seems unlikely, the Fed stops distorting the economy by manipulating interest rates (which are the price of money), Congress cuts spending and debt, and President Trump declares a ceasefire in the trade war.

The Federal Reserve’s rate cut failed to stop a drastic fall in the stock market. This is actually good news as it shows that even Wall Street is losing faith in the Federal Reserve’s ability to manage the unmanageable — a monetary system based solely on fiat currency. The erosion of trust in and respect for the Fed is also shown by the interest in cryptocurrency and the momentum behind two initiatives spearheaded by my Campaign for Liberty — passing the Audit the Fed bill and passing state laws re-legalizing gold and silver as legal tender. There is no doubt we are witnessing the last days of not just the Federal Reserve but the entire welfare-warfare system. Those who know the truth must do all they can to ensure that the crisis results in a return to a constitutional republic, true free markets, sound money and a foreign policy of peace and free trade.

Ursula von der Leyen: Brussel is het hart van de democratie….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Hoorde vorige week de Duitse CDU politicus Ursula von der Leyen zeggen dat Brussel het hart van de democratie is…….

Vandaag wordt in ‘het hart van de democratie’ door politici besloten of von der Leyen de volgende voorzitter van de Europese Commissie zal zijn….. Zo ‘democratisch gaat dat’ in Brussel…..

Ursula von der Leyen: ,,Trots dat hier eindelijk een vrouw staat.”
(draak von der Leyen stak zich vanmorgen in Brussel een veer in de vieze bips, met de woorden: ‘Trots dat hier eindelijk een vrouw staat…..’)

Gezien alleen al deze uitlating is von der Leyen uitermate geschikt voor het voorzitterschap van de Europese Commissie, immers je moet daar flink kunnen liegen, om de bevolking van de EU te besodemieteren en rustig te houden……. Vanmorgen stelde von der Leyen dat de EU in 2050 energieneutraal moet zijn, dit daar men commentaar had op het geringe gehalte aan duurzaam besef bij deze taart…

Von der Leyen kan van alles beloven als het over 20, 30 jaar verder gaat, geen hond die zich dan nog herinnert wat von der Leyen vandaag heeft beloofd…… Echter gezien ‘de mate van ernst’ die EU politici en politici van de EU-deelstaten tonen voor de aanpak van de klimaatverandering (en strijd tegen de luchtvervuiling), mogen we blij zijn als de EU in het jaar 2150 energieneutraal is…….

De EU heeft in feite niets meer te maken met democratie zoals we die anno 2019 mogen verwachten…..

PS: we mogen trouwens blij zijn dat PvdA oplichter en tegenwoordig infantiel (dementie??) Timmermans niet tot voorzitter werd verkozen, dan waren we helemaal in het pak genaaid.

Zomertijd: EU probeert burgers te paaien

Ongelofelijk wat een gezeur de laatste maanden over de eventuele afschaffing van de zomertijd, vooral in Duitsland is de discussie groot.

De EU heeft besloten de zomertijd over te laten aan de afzonderlijke EU landen, waarmee de EU de bevolking probeert te paaien, nadat het meer dan ten overvloede heeft bewezen, niet voor de gewone burgers te werken, maar voor boeren, ondernemers, de bankenmaffia, de wapenindustrie (moet als de bankenmaffia apart worden genoemd) en de welgestelden……

Ofwel: de EU werpt de EU burgers een vals bot toe, wat hen de indruk moet geven dat de EU zich voor de burgers inzet en niet een orgaan is dat vooral tegen de belangen van burgers ingaat…..

Tegelijkertijd is men in de EU bezig de macht van de EU verder te vergroten, men spreekt nu zelfs al over een EU leger……. Niet voor niets: men is als de dood dat nog meer landen als Groot-Brittannië zich zullen terugtrekken uit de EU……. (zo meer daarover)

Dan is er nog het vrijhandelsverdrag met Canada, CETA, waarmee grote bedrijven afzonderlijke EU lidstaten voor een geheime rechtbank (ISDS) kunnen dagen, als de wet- en regelgeving in zo’n land producten van dit bedrijf verbiedt……. De EU heeft tegen de zin van een enorm aantal EU burgers dit verdrag toch getekend…… De praktijk van dit soort verdragen laat zien dat de afzonderlijke landen bij een geschil in 99% van de gevallen aan het kortste eind trekken, waarmee ook de burgers van het betreffende land aan het kortste eind trekken…….

Trump is een ‘tegenstander’ van dit soort verdragen, althans dat zegt hij…. (in feite is hij voorstander, zolang de VS maar groot profijt trekt uit zo’n handelsverdrag) Om ten overvloede te laten zien dat de EU schijt heeft aan haar burgers, heeft het vanaf het moment dat Trump het Witte Huis betrad, een peperduur lobbyorgaan in Washington, dat op alle mogelijke manieren poogt Trump te winnen voor TTIP, eenzelfde vrijhandelsverdrag als CETA, maar dan tussen de EU en de VS……

Buiten het feit dat de EU poogt meer macht te vergaren (en daar in slaagt) is men in de EU bezig de nieuwsgaring aan banden te leggen, zo heeft men eergisteren besloten dat de sociale media worden aangepakt middels een uploadfilter*, zodat men niet langer kan verwijzen naar valse berichtgeving in de media over bijvoorbeeld de EU…… Met deze nieuwe EU wet wordt in feite nog meer censuur toegelaten op het internet en zoals je weet: censuur hoort thuis in een dictatuur!! De censuur gaat zover dat je straks zelfs geen links meer mag plaatsen naar een bericht in die reguliere media, media die braaf aan de hand van hun welgestelde eigenaren en de politiek lopen, of dat nu de landelijke of EU politiek is…….

Het voorgaande is uitermate gevaarlijk, zeker als je ziet dat de fascisten binnen de EU met elke verkiezing groter worden….. Het is al zo dat deze fascisten, eerder notoire tegenstanders van de EU, hun mening bijstellen, nu ze zien dat ze op termijn wel eens de allergrootste fractie binnen het EU parlement kunnen worden….. Als het zover is, is het bed al gespreid en kunnen deze fascisten elke kritiek zeer ‘kundig’ de kop indrukken…….

vreemd trouwens, het gelul over de zomertijd, zeker als je bedenkt dat de voorloper van de EU, de EEG, er vooral was om de handel tussen de lidstaten te stroomlijnen. Veronderstel dat ieder land een ander besluit neemt dan haar buurland, dit wat betreft de tijd die men aanhoudt (dus de gewone tijd of de zomertijd), dan garandeer ik je dat de ondernemers binnen de kortste keren op de kop staan……..

Wat mij betreft mogen ze de hele zomertijd afschaffen, het levert niets op en is alleen maar lastig voor de volksgezondheid, daar velen grote moeite hebben met het verzetten van de tijd in het voorjaar, zoals komend weekeinde…… Vergeet niet dat veel burgers last hebben van voorjaarsmoeheid, bij het vooruitzetten van de klok met een uur, krijgen deze mensen nog grotere problemen, immers naast hun bestaande vermoeidheid, missen ze ook nog eens een uur, wat in feite betekent dat ze na het weekeinde een uur eerder (vergeleken met de week daarvoor) naar school of werk moeten……

Laat je niet paaien met dit valse zelfbeschikkingsrecht (soevereiniteit), daar aan de andere kant ons meer en meer zelfbeschikking wordt afgepakt (van de afzonderlijke EU lidstaten en daarmee zoals gezegd van ons, de ‘EU burgers….’)….

In Wisconsin ‘the shit hits the fan’, zoals men dit in de VS ‘zo mooi’ kan zeggen. De vertrekkende republikeinse senator Scott Walker en zijn republikeinse deelregering willen de komende democratische senator Tony Evers diverse bevoegdheden afpakken, zodat deze zo goed als niets kan doen voor het grootste deel van de bevolking, die de laatste jaren werden getroffen door maatregelen die hen allesbehalve ten goede kwamen……. Sterker nog het maakt de senator afhankelijk van de republikeinse wetgevende macht………. Ofwel Evers zal als een ‘lame duck’ moeten ‘opereren’, zoals men dit daar noemt.

Eigenlijk kan je dit een ‘coup’ noemen, immers de gekozen senator Evers wordt vleugellam gemaakt. Een coup die de VS verder richting een totale dictatuur drukt, al moet gezegd worden dat de VS in feite al fungeert als een politiestaat……..
Terecht een grote demonstratie in de hoofdstad van Wisconsin, Madison ondanks de hevige kou. De republikeinen dachten dan ook dat de kou de mensen wel van de straat zou houden, niet dus!
Jammer genoeg zijn de democraten niet veel beter, zie het doortrapte spel van de democraten voor, tijdens en na de voorverkiezingen en de uiteindelijke presidentsverkiezingen in 2016, waarvan we heden ten dage nog de ellende zien en waardoor we zelfs met censuur in westerse democratieën te maken hebben, terwijl censuur toch echt in dictaturen thuis hoort……

‘This Is a Coup’: Protests Engulf Wisconsin Capitol as Outgoing Scott Walker and GOP Move to Cripple Democratic Power

As Wisconsin Republicans voted to plow ahead with a sweeping package of legislation that would allow outgoing Gov. Scott Walker to strip significant authority from Democratic governor-elect Tony Evers, outraged Wisconsinites flooded the state capitol Monday night to denounce the GOP’s brazen attempt to subvert the will of the voters and “undo democracy itself.”

“This isn’t a bill. This is a coup,” Randy Bryce—aka the “Iron Stache”—said before Wisconsin’s Joint Committee on Finance, which deliberated and ultimately voted along party lines to advance the Republican plan, which seeks to transfer many of Evers’ crucial executive powers to the GOP-dominated legislature. A final vote on the plan is expected as early as Tuesday.

 Apparently lacking the courage to speak on behalf of their legislation—or fearing the immense grassroots backlash—the bill’s Republican sponsors didn’t bother to show up to the lame-duck hearing.

 Unlike some of their representatives, thousands of Wisconsinites braved the freezing weather and turned out in force, crowding the inside of the capitol building with chants of “Respect our vote!” and rallying outside to denounce the Republicans’ last-ditch power grab.

 “They are terrified that democracy is returning to Wisconsin,” The Nation‘s John Nichols, a Wisconsin native, declared in a speech from the steps of the capitol building. “They are terrified that 2018 is not the end of anything, but only the beginning.”

If approved by the state legislature, the Republican plan would force Evers to implement Wisconsin’s Trump-approved Medicaid work requirements, stop him from banning guns in the state capitol, and restrict both his ability and that of newly-elected Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul to execute the state’s legal affairs.

 The GOP’s sweeping legislative package would also severely restrict early voting, limiting it to as little as two weeks before an election.

 Walker, who has just weeks left in office, told reporters on Monday that he would sign the legislative package if it reaches his desk.

 With governor-elect Evers vowing to pursue legal action if the plan passes the legislature, Wisconsin Democrats continued to voice their outrage at the GOP’s patently anti-democratic plan, which mirrors ongoing efforts by Republicans in Michigan to effectively overturn November’s election results.

 “You rig the system when you win and you rig the system when you lose,” Wisconsin Democratic state Rep. Chris Taylor said of the Republican legislation. “How is it that you have more power when you lose?”

Khashoggi? Turkije veroordeelt Koerdisch-Duitse zangeres tot meer dan 6 jaar gevangenisstraf…..

De Duits-Koerdische zangeres Hozan Cane (artiestennaam, haar werkelijke naam is Saide Inac) werd gisteren veroordeeld tot meer dan 6 jaar gevangenisstraf…….. Cane zong op een verkiezingsbijeenkomst van de pro-Koerdische HDP afgelopen juni, vlak voor de verkiezingen in Turkije……. WDR 5 meldde e.e.a. gistermiddag.

Om te laten zien dat de rechters in Turkije net zo psychopathisch zijn als de rechters in nazi-Duitsland (die voor een groot deel mochten blijven zitten na WOII…..), werd Cane veroordeeld voor het verboden lidmaatschap van de PKK…… De PKK is uiteraard niet zo dom om lijsten aan te maken waar haar leden opstaan, laat staan dat ze die rond zouden laten slingeren, zeker gezien de terreur van de Turkse staat tegen haar partij en de Koerden in het algemeen…..

Weet je nog hoe de reli-fascistische Turkse dictator Erdogan tekeerging, nadat bekend werd dat Khashoggi werd vermoord in het Saoedische consulaat in Istanbul? Dit terwijl hij zelf schijt heeft aan de pers en de gevangenissen van Turkije o.a. gevuld zijn met kritische (echte) journalisten, die daar weg mogen rotten…… Het is duidelijk dat iedere kritiek op de Erdogan dictatuur kan rekenen op zware straffen, zelfs politici zijn niet meer veilig als ze zich kritisch opstellen aangaande Erdogan, waar nu ook zangers/zangeressen op de Turkse verdachtenlijst staan……

Hoe is het mogelijk dat deze Turkse terreurstaat nog steeds deel mag uitmaken van de NAVO?? Ach ja, met het valse voorwendsel een einde te maken aan dictaturen, voert de NAVO o.l.v. de VS, terreur uit in landen waar het niets te zoeken heeft en worden regimes gesteund die overduidelijk dictaturen zijn, dan wel regeringen die zich fascistisch profileren, neem Saoedi-Arabië, Egypte, de Golfstaten, Marokko en Israël……

Russiagate sprookje ondermijnt VS democratie en de midterm verkiezingen

Alle verhalen over Russische manipulatie van verkiezingen zijn leugens, zo is intussen meer dan duidelijk geworden, echter de westerse (massa-) media en het grootste deel van de westerse politiek blijven deze leugen volhouden, immers als je een leugen dag in dag uit bij het publiek door de strot duwt, blijft deze bij een groot deel hangen als was het een waarheid als een koe…..
Professor Russische studies en politiek aan de Princeton University en de New York University (NYU), Stephen Cohen ziet het anders, volgens hem is er een kentering opgetreden en hij stelt daarbij dat juist door het hameren op die leugens, het publiek het vertrouwen en geloof in integere politiek verliest…. Ofwel de democratie zelf wordt aangetast met deze leugens en zoals in de kop gesteld het ondermijnt de democratie…….
Cohen bedoelt niet dat het (grootste deel van het) publiek doorheeft dat er wordt gelogen, echter de verhalen over de Russische bemoeienis richt bij dat publiek grote schade aan in het vertrouwen in de politiek…. Dit daar men zal denken dat zelfs al ‘één door de Russen gemanipuleerde of gestoken verkiezing’ zal leiden tot meer, ofwel ‘men heeft het manipuleren van de presidentsverkiezingen in 2016 niet kunnen voorkomen’, waarom dan nu wel??

 Het is al zo zot in de VS dat men het ontbreken van bewijzen voor Russische bemoeienis, wordt gezien als een bewijs voor de manipulatie die Trump in 2016 het presidentschap in de schoot heeft geworpen….. ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!
Jammer dat Cohen niets zegt over de politiek en het gehalte aan democratie in de VS*, immers als je niet van het christelijk geloof bent, of je hebt niet de grote bedrijven met kapitalen achter je staan, kan je het als kandidaat in deze immer weer gekochte verkiezingen wel vergeten, om over alle leugens waarmee men elkaar bestookt voorafgaand aan de verkiezingen nog maar te zwijgen, waar men ook mensen inzet om het publiek via de sociale media (en uiteraard via de reguliere media) te bestoken met leugens en achterklap……… (en dan nog durven lullen over Russische inmenging……)
Ik moet zeggen dat ik het niet met Cohen eens ben, waar hij een intellectueel uit Moskou citeert dat Russisch autoritarisme** niet door de politiek wordt bepaald, maar door de genen (van het Russische volk)…. Je reinste kul, hetzelfde soort gelul als het verhaal dat alle Nederlanders op klompen lopen….. Democratie moet groeien, niet alleen in de politiek, maar ook in het individu en gezien er van democratie nog maar kort sprake is in Rusland (en deze als de democratie in de VS bepaald niet volmaakt is), kan je niet stellen dat mensen niet open zouden staan voor democratie.

Het lullige is wel dat de Russen een hoop rottigheid zien in westerse ‘democratische landen’, dit doet de lust voor democratie op z’n zachtst gezegd geen goed…… (zie bijvoorbeeld hoe men in EU landen als Nederland met referenda is omgesprongen…..) Waar de macht van bedrijven, geheime diensten en terreurorganisaties als de NAVO over de westerse ‘democratieën’ niet vergeten moet worden…..

Allegations that Russia is still “attacking” US elections, now again in November, could delegitimize our democratic institutions.

Stephen F. Cohen, professor emeritus of Russian studies and politics at NYU and Princeton, and John Batchelor continue their (usually) weekly discussions of the new US-Russian Cold War. (Previous installments, now in their fifth year, are at TheNation.com.)

Summarizing one of the themes in his new book, War with Russia? From Putin and Ukraine To Trump and Russiagate, Cohen argues that Russiagate allegations of Kremlin attempts to “undermine American democracy” may themselves erode confidence in those institutions.
Ever since Russiagate allegations began to appear more than two years ago, their core narrative has revolved around purported Kremlin attempts to “interfere” in the 2016 US presidential election on behalf of then-candidate Donald Trump. In recent months, a number of leading American media outlets have taken that argument even further, suggesting that Putin’s Kremlin actually put Trump in the White House and now is similarly trying to affect the November 6 midterm elections, particularly House contests, on behalf of Trump and the Republican Party. According to a page-one New York Times “report,” for example, Putin’s agents “are engaging in an elaborate campaign of ‘information warfare’ to interfere with the American midterm elections.”
Despite well-documented articles by Gareth Porter and Aaron Maté effectively dismantling these allegations about 2016 and 2018, the mainstream media continue to promote them. The occasionally acknowledged lack of “public evidence” is sometimes cited as itself evidence of a deep Russian conspiracy, of the Kremlin’s “arsenal of disruption capabilities…to sow havoc on election day.” (See the examples cited by Alan MacLeod at FAIR.org.)
Lost in these reckless allegations is the long-term damage they may themselves do to American democracy. Consider the following possibilities.
Even though still unproven, charges that the Kremlin put Trump in the White House have cast a large shadow of illegitimacy over his presidency and thus over the institution of the presidency itself. This is unlikely to end entirely with Trump. If the Kremlin had the power to affect the outcome of one presidential election, why not another one, whether won by a Republican or a Democrat? The 2016 presidential election was the first time such an allegation became widespread in American political history, but it may not be the last.
Now the same shadow looms over the November 6 elections and thus over the next Congress. If so, in barely two years, the legitimacy of two fundamental institutions of American representative democracy will have been challenged, also for the first time in history.
And if US elections are really so vulnerable to Russian “meddling,” what does this say about faith in American elections more generally? How many losing candidates on November 6 will resist blaming the Kremlin? Two years after the last presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her adamant supporters still have not been able to do so.
We know from critical reporting and from recent opinion surveys that the origins and continuing fixation on the Russiagate scandal since 2016 have been primarily a product of US political-intelligence-media elites. It did not spring from the American people—from voters themselves. Thus a Gallup poll recently showed that 57 percent of those surveyed wanted improved relations with Russia. And other surveys have shown that Russiagate is scarcely an issue at all for likely voters on November 6. Nonetheless, it remains a front-page issue for US elites.
Indeed, Russiagate has revealed the low esteem that many US political-media elites have for American voters—for their ability to make discerning, rational electoral decisions, which is the bedrock assumption of representative democracy. It is worth noting that this disdain for rank-and-file citizens echoes a longstanding attitude of the Russian political intelligentsia, as recently expressed in the argument by a prominent Moscow policy intellectual that Russian authoritarianism springs not from the nation’s elites but from the “genetic code” of its people.

US elites seem to have a similar skepticism about—or contempt for—American voters’ capacity to make discerning electoral choices. Presumably this is a factor behind the current proliferation of programs—official, corporate, and private—to introduce elements of censorship in the nation’s “media space” in order to filter out “Kremlin propaganda.” Here, it also seems, elites will decide what constitutes such “propaganda.”

Het is oorlogsmisdadiger Pompeo duidelijk in de pedante fascistische lege bol geslagen, de ploert zou het Midden-Oosten het liefst zien als Israël……. Volgens Pompeo is dat een democratie, waar geen corruptie bestaat en waar de mensenrechten worden gerespecteerd……… ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Ten eerste is Israël sinds kort officieel een natiestaat, waar de rechten van Joden ver gaan boven die van andere inwoners van dat gestolen land (dat laatste komt er ook nog eens bij), ofwel Israël is een apartheidsstaat……….. Ten tweede is de politiek in Israël zo corrupt als de pest, waar de premier wel de kroon spant als het over corruptie gaat, zelfs zijn vrouw is intussen aangeklaagd voor fraude…….
Ten derde: als er één land is waar de mensenrechten op enorm schaal worden geschonden is het Israël wel, oh nee wacht, de grote vriend van Israël en de VS, Saoedi-Arabië overtreft het nog net…. Dat land werd overigens niet eens genoemd door Pompeo, die met zijn lulpraatje Iran afschilderde als alles wat tegenovergesteld is aan Israël, terwijl S-A ver boven Iran uittorend wat betreft dictatuur (dat is Iran niet eens), mensenrechtenschendingen en een land is dat niet alleen in eigen land minderheden als sjiieten bestrijdt, maar zelfs een genocide uitvoert tegen de sjiieten in buurland Jemen……

 Pompeo zwetste nog wat over de vrije pers in Israël, terwijl de reguliere media, ook in Israël, in de zakken zit van het grootkapitaal…….
Kortom Pompeo zwetste voor de zoveelste keer uit zijn nek, wat een domme leugenaar en hufter!! De hoogste tijd dat deze schoft terecht staat voor het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC)!!

(MEMO) — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday that “Israel is everything we want the entire Middle East to look like going forward” and that US-Israel relations are “stronger than ever”.
Speaking at an award ceremony held by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America in Washington DC, Pompeo hailed Israel as “democratic and prosperous”, adding “it desires peace, it is a home to a free press and a thriving economy,” Arutz Sheva reported.
Pompeo then compared Israel to Iran, citing the latter’s “corrupt leaders [who] assault the human rights of their own people and finance terrorism in every corner of the Middle East”. Pompeo lamented that the US administration under former President Barack Obama “had more respect for the leaders of Iran than it did for the State of Israel,” stressing that
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States is standing where it should firmly be: On the side of Israel.”
Pompeo also discussed the long-awaited US peace initiative – dubbed the “deal of the century” – hailing it as a “truly historic” effort to reach an agreement. Pompeo said that “we [the USA] are very hopeful that one day the Palestinian people will have the same kinds of things, the same material, the same opportunities that the people of Israel have,” according to the Jerusalem Post. Pompeo added “We very much want you [the Palestinians] to have a space.”
Yet the Secretary of State also admitted that despite this “hope” for a Palestinian “space”, he had that same day denied a $165 million transfer of aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) citing the PA’s “funding of terror”. Pompeo was referring to the PA’s refusal to adhere to US demands to cease so-called “martyr payments” to the families of those killed by Israeli occupation forces or those incarcerated in Israeli prisons. Other countries have also put pressure on the PA, with Israel enacting a law to withhold $130 million per month of tax revenue collected on behalf of the PA unless it ceases these stipends and Australia cutting its aid to the PA.
Though US-Israel ties have historically been strong, under President Donald Trump’s administration these ties have reached new heights. Last week the largest ever US aid package to Israel – worth $38 billion over 10 years – entered into force. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the US and Israel in 2016 under the Obama Administration, but State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert hailed the deal as reflecting “the enduring and unshakable commitment of the President [Trump], this Administration, and the American people to Israel’s security”.
Trump has also spearheaded the so-called “deal of the century”, a peace initiative he hopes will solve the decades-long situation in Israel-Palestine. Last month the president expressed support for the two-state solution for the first time since entering office. He explained: “I like two-state solution. Yeah. That’s what I think… that’s what I think works best. I don’t even have to speak to anybody, that’s my feeling… I think two-state solution works best.” Despite such attempts to appear even-handed, the US has been criticised as a dishonest broker in any peace negotiations, with many believing the “deal of the century” will be biased towards Israel and put Israel’s “security” before any measures beneficial to the Palestinians.

How Israel Makes Apartheid Against Palestinians “Legal”

‘Jewish nation state’ bill is only the latest attempt to legislate discrimination against Palestinians.
(MEE) This week, if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gets his way, the Israeli government will formally pass into law the “Jewish nation state” bill. The precise final text remained unclear at the time of writing, with compromises and amendments still being discussed among coalition partners.
With the Knesset’s summer recess on the horizon, and Netanyahu seemingly determined to pass the law ahead of the break, the initiative has risen to the top of the news agenda in Israel, with high-profile interventions from opponents and supporters.
Last Tuesday, President Reuven Rivlin warned in a public letter of what he believes are the dangers inherent in the law – especially an article designed to protect and promote the existence of Jewish-only communities.

Lobbying efforts

Meanwhile, a number of Jewish American leaders have been strongly urging Netanyahu to reconsider, intensifying their lobbying efforts to prevent the bill’s passage.
These responses have, regrettably but predictably, been characterised by a failure to understand or take sufficiently into account how Israel’s status as a “Jewish state” has always been reflected in legislation and practice, and, crucially, how this has impacted on Palestinians since 1948.
Many discriminatory laws are already on the books, and legal ways to create segregated communities in Israel already exist. There is no right to equality, and Israel is not a state of all its citizens. The much-heralded Declaration of Independence is not a constitutional law, and the Basic Law already privileges the protection of a “Jewish state” over equality for non-Jewish citizens.
As a UN special rapporteur put it in 2012, Israeli authorities already pursue “a land development model that excludes, discriminates against and displaces minorities.” The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has similarly noted “the enactment of a number of discriminatory laws on land issues which disproportionately affect non-Jewish communities.”
Indeed, the issue of Jewish-only communities, which has dominated recent criticism over the proposed bill, is often debated without reference to the fact that Israel already has hundreds of such segregated communities, thanks to the role of “admission committees.”

Traced back to the Nakba

A decade ago, Human Rights Watch reported on how these committees “are made up of government and community representatives as well as a senior official in the Jewish Agency or the Zionist Organisation, and have notoriously been used to exclude Arabs from living in rural Jewish communities.”
Such decades-old institutionalised discrimination, which can be traced all the way back to the Nakba, makes a mockery of the claim by the Israel Democracy Institute’s Mordechai Kremnitzer that the new law would somehow constitute “the end of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.”
The new law does, however, represent an innovation, both legally and politically, as analysed by legal rights centre Adalah in a new position paper published on Sunday; enjoying the status of a Basic Law, the Jewish nation state bill would anchor racist practices in the constitution.
Coverage by Western media has, on the whole, reproduced the lacuna of the bill’s Israeli critics. Yet, the omission of the experience of Palestinian citizens in this “Jewish and democratic” state is compounded by an analysis that fails to look deeper into why this legislation is being proposed at all.
The “Jewish nation state” bill is not the product of a right-wing tussle between Likud and Jewish Home, or Netanyahu and Naftali Bennett. Rather, tracing the origins of this proposed legislation reveals that it is, in essence, pushback against the efforts by Palestinian citizens over the last two decades to affirm their national identity and demand a state of all its citizens.

Doubling down

Not long after former Shin Bet head Avi Dichter began efforts to pass a “Jewish nation state” bill in 2011, Israeli journalist Lahav Harkov – now news editor of the Jerusalem Post – praised the initiative by citing “campaigns to delegitimize Israel on the rise both inside and outside the country.”
Thus, the response from the Israeli political establishment to a mobilised Palestinian citizenry demanding genuine equality has been to double-down on discrimination, and to defiantly and ever-more explicitly assert and legally protect the existence of a “Jewish state.”
But this is not without its advantages, as highlighted by the furore over the new bill. For what the draft legislation threatens is not the existence of a “democratic” Israel, but rather critics’ idea of a “Jewish and democratic” state (or at least the plausibility of maintaining this idea).
Through its crudeness, the bill threatens Israel’s ability to continue long-standing, institutionalised discrimination with no international cost, a prospect flagged through the warnings of Israel’s attorney general and Jewish American leader Rabbi Rick Jacobs.

Demographic war

“The true face of Zionism in Israel,” wrote Orly Noy in +972 magazine last week, is “an inherent, perpetual demographic war against its Palestinian citizens. If Israel seeks to be Jewish and democratic, it needs to actively ensure a Jewish majority.”
The “Jewish nation state” bill, whatever its final fate, is part of this historic and ongoing demographic war – one that is testimony to the activism of Palestinian citizens and an effort to stifle it.
As Israel consolidates the de facto single state between the river and the sea, this won’t be the last attempt to see the apartheid reality on the ground further reflected in legislation.
