ING, Rabobank en BNP Paribas financieren de oliewinning in het Amazonegebied: u wordt opgelicht!!

Tijdens de Coronacrisis, april dit jaar werd een groot gebied met olie vervuild in het Ecuadoraanse deel van het Amazonewoud, inclusief rivieren voor watergebruik….. ‘Maar liefst’ 15.800 vaten (1 vat is ongeveer 159 liter…..) hebben dit gebied vervuild…… De meeste olie uit dat deel van het Amazonegebied zou naar de VS gaan…. Uiteraard is de oorspronkelijke bevolking van dit gebied het slachtoffer van deze vervuiling, hetzelfde geldt voor de natuur…….

 Als je dacht dat deze vervuiling eenmalig was, moet ik je teleurstellen, meermaals werd de boel verkankerd in dit gebeid, al was deze olievervuiling het ergst gemeten over de afgelopen 15 jaar en als men niet stopt met de oliewinning in dit gebied, zullen er nog veel van deze rampen volgen……..

Ondanks dat banken stellen dat ze een beleid voeren met eerbiediging van de mensenrechten, duurzaamheid en het tegengaan van de klimaatverandering financieren 6 grote banken uit Europa de handel in deze olie….. De namen van de banken: ING, Rabobank, BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse, Natixis, en UBS……

Met name de Sacred Headwaters zijn vervuild met olie……

Deze banken zijn over de laatste 10 jaar verantwoordelijk voor de financiering met 10 miljard dollar voor de winning van 155 miljoen vaten olie, die van Ecuador werden vervoerd naar raffinaderijen in de VS….. Het gaat hier om een hoeveelheid olie die bij verbruik gelijk staat aan de jaarlijkse verbranding van steenkool in 17 kolencetrales…….

Zoals gezegd banken als de Rabobank en ING doen naar buiten toe alsof ze duurzaam bezig zijn en respect hebben voor mensenrechten, milieu en natuur, dat is dan ook één van de smerigste vormen van greenwashing!! Met deze valse voorstelling van zaken worden de milieubewuste klanten van deze banken opgelicht!!

Overigens las ik onlangs dat de Rabobank zich ook bezighoudt met het financieren van ‘duurzame palmolie winning’, terwijl duurzame palmolie niet bestaat, zal daar binnenkort een bericht aan besteden…..

European banks face indigenous calls to end Amazon oil trade ...

In April, the Ecuadorian Amazon region was hit by one of the worst oil spills it had experienced in over a decade. As 15,800 barrels of crude oil spilled out from ruptured pipelines, over 120,000 Ecuadorians found their rivers running thick with oil and their only source of food and water polluted – all amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pipelines that run through the Amazon Sacred Headwaters carry crude oil extracted from the rainforest and exported to international destinations – the U.S. being one of the biggest buyers. But the controversy doesn’t end there. Our groundbreaking report released today – in partnership with Amazon Watch, found six top European banks financing the trade of Amazon Sacred Headwaters crude oil from Ecuador – despite having policies on advancing human rights, sustainability, and climate change.

These banks cannot continue to finance the trade of crude oil from the Amazon Sacred Headwaters when regional Indigenous federations and local communities are calling for an immediate conditional moratorium and no further expansion of all oil production. European and other banks financing the trade of crude oil to the U.S. and beyond are complicit in Indigenous rights violations and contamination connected to the drilling and export of this oil.

Our investigation led by the Stand Research group found that in the last decade, a range of banks have provided $10 billion USD in trade financing for over 155 million barrels of oil from the Ecuadorian region of the Amazon Sacred Headwaters to refineries in the U.S. The top six banks, ING, Credit Suisse, Natixis, BNP Paribas, UBS, and Rabobank alone account for 85 percent of all bank financed trade.

The 155 million barrels these institutions have helped finance contain approximately 66.65 million metric tons of CO2, which is equivalent to a staggering annual emissions from 17 coal-fired power plants. How could banks with public sustainability and climate commitments play such a pivotal role in financing the flow of oil from one of the most biodiverse places on the planet?!

That’s why these banks must publicly commit to stop financing (trade included) Amazon oil-related activities until governments in the region commit to no new expansion of oil development and a wind-down of existing wells – in line with global climate goals and collective Indigenous visions for the region. In addition, they must promote transparency of any trade financing. Plus, they must respect Indigenous sovereignty and rights, guarantee to uphold the health of local communities, and put in place safeguards to prevent future spills.

Sign the petition to demand these banks stop financing the trade of crude oil and stop supporting the destruction and degradation of the Amazon rainforest.

In August 2020, Indigenous federations in Ecuador launched a global campaign and filed legal actions calling for a moratorium on current crude oil production due to ongoing contamination and future spill risk. The ongoing resource extraction in the Amazon has made spills a common crisis in the region for the past 40 years. Although the recent oil spill in Ecuador is the biggest in 15 years, it is not the first oil spill nor will it be the last, but it’s a prime example of why drilling for oil in the Amazon needs to stop.

Going after big financial institutions may seem like a monumental task, but challenges like this are what we were born to do. We’ve protected 65 million acres of forests that people thought couldn’t be saved. We’ve gone up against multinational oil, gas, and coal companies worth billions of dollars and come out victorious, blocking dozens of their projects that would have poisoned local communities and accelerated the climate crisis.
We’ve shifted billions of dollars of purchasing from corporate powerhouses like Starbucks, Staples, and Levi’s onto sustainable pathways.

Because of people like you, transforming entire industries has kind of become our jam.

Houthi aanval op Saoedische raffinaderijen: een grote blunder van de VS

De premature beschuldiging van de VS (al binnen 2 uur) dat Iran achter de aanslagen op de Saoedische raffinaderijen zit, heeft alles te maken met de schaamte van de VS dat al haar peperdure wapensystemen, zoals Patriot-raketten en de beste radartechnologie, geleverd aan Saoedi-Arabië, geen antwoord zijn op aanvallen met drones…….. Waaraan toegevoegd moet worden dat deze drones van een legermacht zijn (de Houthi rebellen) die zich qua materiaal niet kan meten met Saoedi-Arabië laat staan met de VS…… Kortom de VS staat flink voor paal! (en de wapenindustrie van de VS is bepaald niet blij, dat kan ik je verzekeren!)

De claim van de VS dat Iran, of sjiitische krachten in Irak achter de aanslagen zitten, kloppen niet met de ‘geografische kant’ waar de olie-installaties werden getroffen: de westelijke kant, waardoor Iran en Irak afvallen als landen van waaruit de aanslagen werden gepleegd.
Het meest frappante aan de aanslagen op de 2 raffinaderijen is wel dat de eerste drone de Patriotraketinstallatie heeft vernield, een installatie die de boel moest bewaken, waarna de rest van de drones ongestoord kon doorvliegen…..
Vergeet wat betreft deze schaamte van de VS niet dat de petrodollar, ofwel de dollar als munt waarin de prijs van olie wordt weergegeven, vooral is te danken aan Saoedi-Arabië, de grootste olieleverancier ter wereld….. De VS wil dat ten koste van alles zo houden, immers als de dollar niet langer de munt is waarin olieprijzen worden weergegeven, is de lust van andere landen om dollars te verzamelen verdwenen en zal de VS eindelijk met haar enorme schuld worden geconfronteerd, waarbij het land zelfs deels of geheel failliet zou kunnen gaan……..

Nogmaals: wat een schande dat de aanval met drones tegen de spuugrijke en dictatoriaal geregeerde terreurstaat Saoedi-Arabië zoveel aandacht trekt, terwijl men niet lult over de genocide die dezelfde terreurstaat uitvoert in buurland Jemen…….

September 15, 2019 “Information Clearing House” – The devastating blitz on Saudi Arabia’s oil industry has led to a flurry of accusations from US officials blaming Iran. The reason for the finger-pointing is simple: Washington’s spectacular failure to protect its Saudi ally.

 The Trump administration needs to scapegoat Iran for the latest military assault on Saudi Arabia because to acknowledge that the Houthi rebels mounted such an audacious assault on the oil kingdom’s heartland would be an admission of American inadequacy.

 Saudi Arabia has spent billions of dollars in recent years purchasing US Patriot missile defense systems and supposedly cutting-edge radar technology from the Pentagon. If the Yemeni rebels can fly combat drones up to 1,000 kilometers into Saudi territory and knock out the linchpin production sites in the kingdom’s oil industry, then that should be a matter of huge embarrassment for US “protectors.”

 American defense of Saudi Arabia is germane to their historical relationship. Saudi oil exports nominated in dollars for trade – the biggest on the planet – are vital for maintaining the petrodollar global market, which is in turn crucial for American economic power. In return, the US is obligated to be a protector of the Saudi monarchy, which comes with the lucrative added benefit of selling the kingdom weapons worth billions of dollars every year.

 ‘Maximum lies’: Iran rejects US’ claim it attacked Saudi oil facilities, warns it’s ready for war

 According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Saudi Arabia has the world’s third biggest military budget, behind the US and China. With an annual spend of around $68 billion, it is the world’s number one in terms of percentage of gross domestic product (8.8 per cent). Most of the Saudi arms are sourced from the US, with Patriot missile systems in particular being a recent big-ticket item.

 Yet for all that financial largesse and the finest American military technology, the oil kingdom just witnessed a potentially crippling wave of air assaults on its vital oil industry. Saudi oil production at its mammoth refinery complex at Abqaiq, 205 miles (330 kms) east of the capital Riyadh, was down 50 per cent after it was engulfed by flames following air strikes. One of the Saudi’s biggest oilfields, at Khurais, also in the Eastern Province, was also partially closed.

 There are credible reports that the damage is much more serious than the Saudi officials are
conceding. These key industrial sites may take weeks to repair.

 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo got it half right when he claimed, “Iran launched an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply”.

 Yes, it is unprecedented. But Pompeo and other US officials have most likely got it wrong about blaming Iran.

 Some Trump administration officials told US media that “cruise missiles” were responsible for the giant fireballs seen over the Saudi oil facilities. One was quoted anonymously as saying: “There’s no doubt that Iran is responsible for this… there’s no escaping it. There is no other candidate.”
In a hurried effort to substantiate accusations against Iran, satellite images were released which show what appears to be the aftermath of the air strike on the Abqaiq refinery complex. US officials claim the location of the explosions indicate the weapons originated not from Yemen to the south, but from either Iran or Iraq.

Even the normally dutiful New York Times expressed doubt about that claim, commenting in its report: “The satellite photographs released on Sunday did not appear as clear cut as officials suggested, with some appearing to show damage on the western side of facilities, not from the direction of Iran or Iraq.”

 The accusations made by Pompeo and others are assertions in place of substantiated claims.
It is noteworthy that President Donald Trump refrained from openly blaming Iran by name, merely hinting at the possibility. If Pompeo is so adamant in fingering Iran, why didn’t Trump? Also, the president made a telling remark when he said he was “waiting for verification” from Saudi Arabia “as to who they believe was the cause of the attack.” Again, if US officials are explicitly accusing Iran then why is Trump saying he wants “verification” from the Saudis?

 For its part, Iran has flatly dismissed the allegations that it had any involvement, saying that statements by Pompeo were “blind” and tantamount to setting up a conflict.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi also rejected claims that his country’s territory might have been used by pro-Iranian Shia militants to launch the air strikes.

 The Houthi rebels in Yemen have issued unambiguous statements claiming responsibility for the air raids on the Saudi oil installations. They were specific that the weapons were drones, not missiles, adding with details that 10 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were deployed.

 Notably too, most US media reported initially that the attacks were by drones flown from Yemen. Associated Press reported a level of sophistication in the attacks whereby drones were used first to disable the US Patriot radar systems before other UAVs proceeded to execute the air strikes.
It therefore seems that US officials are attempting to switch the story by blaming Iran. It is reckless scapegoating because the logical consequence could elicit a military attack against Iran, in which event Tehran has warned it is ready for war.

 The rationale for blaming Iran is that the Yemeni rebels (which Iran supports politically) are just not capable of using drones with such dramatic success against the Saudi oil industry. The culprit must be Iran, so the rationale goes. This is a follow-on from alleged sabotage by Iran against oil tankers in the Persian Gulf earlier this summer.

 However, a timeline shows that the Houthis are more than capable of launching ever-more powerful ballistic missiles and deeper penetrating drones into Saudi territory. The rebels have been using drones from the beginning of the war which the US-backed Saudi-UAE coalition launched on the southern Arabian country in March 2015.

 Over the past four years, the Houthi aerial firepower has gradually improved. Earlier, the Saudis, with American defense systems, were able to intercept drones and missiles from Yemen. But over the last year, the rebels have increased their success rate for hitting targets in the Saudi interior, including the capital Riyadh.

 In May this year, Houthi drones hit Saudi Arabia’s crucial east-west pipeline. Then in August, drones and ballistic missiles were reported to have struck the Shaybah oil field near the border with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as the Dammam exporting complex in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

The Yemenis claim they are taking the war to Saudi Arabia and the UAE after years of relentless air strikes on their homeland which have resulted in nearly 90,000 dead. A recent UN report censured the US, Britain and France for possible complicity in war crimes through their military support for the Saudi coalition.

 There must be trepidation among the monarchs in Saudi Arabia and the UAE that the rebels from war-torn and starving Yemen are now coming after them with drones that could demolish their oil economies. What’s more, the much-vaunted American protector is not able to deliver on its strategic bargain, despite billions of dollars of Pentagon weaponry. That’s why Washington has to find an excuse by casting Iran as the villain.

De VS is in feite het Vierde Rijk, een imperium dat de voorgaande drie overtreft niet alleen wat betreft de rond de 1.000 militaire bases over de wereld, maar ook in het beheersen van de wereld middels chantage en zware geweldpleging, zoals:
  • illegale oorlogen
  • het manipuleren van verkiezingen in eigen land en daarbuiten
  • het opzetten van opstanden met de bedoeling deze tot een coup te laten leiden
  • geheime militaire acties waarbij men erop los moordt
  • het vermoorden van duizenden verdachten middels drones, ofwel standrechtelijke executies van verdachten, waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werden verdacht, dus veelal vrouwen en kinderen…….
Echter ook het economische wapen is zonder meer terreur op grote schaal, neem de sancties tegen Irak onder Clinton, waardoor 500.000 kinderen omkwamen….. De destijds verantwoordelijk minister van BuZa, hare kwaadaardigheid Madeleine Albright durfde jaren later nog te zeggen dat die 500.000 in feite door de VS vermoordde kinderen, de moeite van het doden waard waren…….
Precies dat economische wapen is zoals gezegd terreur op grote schaal, zoals je over de sancties tegen Irak kon lezen. Het Iraanse bewind zal als destijds het Iraakse bewind moeten verdwijnen, zoals men ook Assad in buurland Syrië weg wilde en nog weg wil hebben…. En waarom? Iedereen was en is ervan overtuigd dat Iran zich aan de nucleaire deal hield en dat e.e.a. resultaat had…..

Zonder enig bewijs stelde de VS dat Iran zich niet aan de deal houdt en zich bezig houdt met de ‘destabilisatie van het Midden-Oosten’, werkelijk om je dood te lachen als je bedenkt dat de VS alleen deze eeuw al meer dan 2 miljoen mensen in het Midden-Oosten heeft vermoord en daarnaast de genocide van de Saoedische terreurcoalitie tegen het sjiitische volk in Jemen militair en politiek steunt en ……..

Een ander voorbeeld van terreur middels het sanctiewapen is Venezuela, vergeet niet dat al ver voor de VS ‘officiële sancties’ tegen het Venezolaanse volk instelde, er al lang en breed een geheime economische oorlog bezig was tegen dat volk, zelfs al onder de voorganger van Maduro, Hugo Chávez….
Zogenaamde deskundigen raken niet uitgeluld over het desastreuze economische beleid onder Maduro en Chavez, echter een betere bestudering van wat er werkelijk aan de hand was en is, laat zien dat deze economische oorlog de economie van Venezuela heeft neergehaald…..
Nu bedreigt de VS in feite de hele wereld, geen olie uit Iran, anders…… Het lullige is dat de EU eerder beloofde Iran te helpen, maar daar wegens angst voor de VS toch vanaf heeft gezien een ander betalingssysteem te gebruiken dan SWIFT, dat in feite wordt gecontroleerd door de VS….. Er is wel degelijk een ander internationaal betalingssysteem, maar reken maar dat de VS EU politici en die van afzonderlijke EU lidstaten onder druk heeft gezet niet op dat pad door te gaan…..
Zonder gebruik te maken van een ander betalingssysteem durven bedrijven niets te leveren of af te nemen aan/van Iraanse bedrijven, immers de VS kan bedrijven ten gronde richten die internationaal opereren……..
Hoe lang laat de wereld zich nog koeioneren door de VS, dat aanwijsbaar de grootste terreurentiteit ter wereld is, het Vierde (fascistische) Rijk…….

US Threatens to Sanction Any Nation That Imports Iranian Oil

(CD) — President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Iran further stoked tensions between Iran and the U.S. on Friday when he said the United States will sanction any country that imports Iranian crude oil.
Envoy Brian Hook, in his comments to reporters in London, said that there were no exemptions, reiterating a threat the Trump administration made two months earlier.
“We will sanction any imports of Iranian crude oil,” Hook said, according to Reuters.
“There are right now no oil waivers in place,” said Hook, who added the administration intends to “sanction any illicit purchases of Iranian crude oil.”

Hook’s comments came four days after the Trump administration announced new economic sanctions against Iran and one day after Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told Trump on Twitter that “Sanctions aren’t [an] alternative to war; they ARE war.”
“Negotiations and threats are mutually exclusive,” Zarif added.
Special envoy Hook’s new statements came as representatives to the remaining parties to the 2015 nuclear accord—the U.S. ditched it last year—met in the Austrian capital.

At the heart of the meeting in Vienna is Iran’s desire for European countries to deliver on promises of financial relief from U.S. sanctions. Iran is insisting that it wants to save the agreement and has urged the Europeans to start buying Iranian oil or give Iran a credit line to keep the accord alive.

President Trump, who’s at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan through Saturday, indicated that his administration is keeping an attack on Iran still on table.
“I think that in the end, hopefully, it’s going to work out,” said Trump of the conflict between the two nations. “If it does, great. And if doesn’t, you’ll be hearing about it.”
Hook offered a similar take on Thursday in comments to AP.
Hook said that “we are not looking for any conflict in the region,” but if the U.S. is attacked, “we will respond with military force.”
Last week, Trump called off a strike he’d approved against Iran just minutes before it would have taken place. The Senate, on Friday, has a chance to rein in such military force.
The chamber began a vote Friday on a measure (pdf) to prevent an unauthorized war on Iran—a possibility that has some lawmakers bristling.
“A war with Iran would be a colossal mistake,” said co-sponsor Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on the floor Thursday ahead of the vote.
“After 18 years of two wars in the Middle East, both of which where we still have troops deployed,” said Kaine, “we should not be fomenting, encouraging, blundering toward, rushing into a third war in the Middle East.”
Rep. Ro Khanna, sponsor of companion measure in the House, agreed.
In a Twitter thread Thursday, the California Democrat said that “the Senate is responding to a growing desire to avoid endless wars by voting to ensure Congress has a say before America is committed to another regime change conflict in the Middle East.”

“With the House soon voting on our amendment to prevent an unauthorized war against Iran,” Khanna continued, “it is clear there is bicameral, bipartisan momentum for Congress to reclaim its constitutional jurisdiction.”

Het verborgen motief achter de Israëlische agressie tegen Iran en Syrië

Israël onderhield goede banden met de in 1953 door de VS geparachuteerde sjah van Perzië (Iran), dit na een door de VS opgezette staatsgreep tegen de democratisch gekozen regering van premier Mossadegh….. In 1968 zetten de 2 landen een onderneming op poten, om zo Perzische olie te transporteren naar Israël, dit daar het Suez Kanaal was geblokkeerd door Egypte. Deze onderneming, de Eilat-Ashkelon Pijpleiding (EAPC), was in feite een vervolg op de al lang door Perzië geleverde olie aan Israël, al werd dat tot die tijd geheim gehouden, om spanningen tussen Perzië en arabische landen te vermijden……
Zo’n 10 jaar lang werd er Perziche (Iraanse) olie geleverd via deze pijpleiding, waar de opbrengsten voor de sjah na de omwenteling van de Iraanse revolutie (1978-19790 in Israël bleven. Na deze revolutie* erkende Israël het nieuwe bewind niet en werd het geld dat Iran nog tegoed had, niet overgedragen aan dat bewind……..
Reden daarvoor: Israël weigerde (en weigert nog steeds) de Iraanse tegoeden over te maken naar dat land, daar het geen geld zou overmaken naar een vijandig land. De Zwitserse rechter heeft daarover gezegd, dat niets de overmaking van het geld naar Iran in de weg staat……
EAPC bestaat nog steeds en de olie die door de (nieuwe) pijpleiding wordt vervoerd, komt volgens deskundigen uit voormalige Sovjet staten, echter daar is geen zekerheid over daar er een bij de wet afgedwongen zwijgplicht bestaat….
De EAPC bedrijfsvoering blijft geheim en is intussen bekend als de Europe Asia Pipeline Co. Ofwel de ‘EAPC-B’, een bedrijf in handen van Israël. De zwijgplicht over dit bedrijf is nog onlangs verlengd met 5 jaar, op overtreding van de zwijgplicht staat een gevangenisstraf tot 15 jaar……
De macht van Israël gaat ver over haar eigen grenzen, zo moest journalist Nafeez Ahmed proefondervindelijk ervaren……. Een artikel van deze journalist werd door The Guardian in juli 2014 gepubliceerd, daarin schreef Ahmed dat de oorlog die Israël tegen de Gazastrook voerde in 2014, alles te maken had met de enorme voorraad aardgas voor de kust van de Gazastrook.
Ahmed schreef in het blog, ‘Earth Insight’ van The Guardian over de link tussen milieu en geopolitiek. Het bewuste artikel zorgde ervoor dat The Guardian stopte met dit blog, onder het voorwendsel dat een aantal artikelen van Ahmed op het blog niet in de lijn waren van de opzet die tot het opzetten van dit blog hebben geleid…….. Dit terwijl het bewuste artikel op grote schaal werd verspreid en gelezen. Ook heeft The Guardian nooit het artikel teruggenomen, of genoemde zaken weersproken…….. Je snapt natuurlijk dat The Guardian handelde onder druk van Israël en de pro-Israëlische regering Cameron
Ahmed had overigens ook over de oorzaak van de oorlog tegen Syrië geschreven en terecht merkte hij op dat één van de hoofdoorzaken van de Israëlische agressie tegen dat land gelegen is in de weigering van Syrië een gaspijpleiding over haar grondgebied toe te staan……. Dit blokkeerde de wens van Israël om één van de grote spelers in de ‘gaswereld’ te worden…….

The Forgotten Motive Behind Israel’s Warmongering in the Middle East

(ANTIMEDIA) — In the over two decades that an American-installed puppet ruled over Iran prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran and Israel maintained friendly ties. In 1968, the two countries set up a joint venture known as the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Co. (EAPC) to transport Iranian oil to the Mediterranean, primarily after Egypt blocked the Suez Canal. This move hindered Iranian oil exports at the time. Iran was already supplying Israel with the bulk of its oil prior to the formation of EAPC but did so secretly to avoid tension with the Arab world.
For about a decade, the pipeline carried Iranian oil from the Red Sea for export to Europe. Following the fall of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1979, the Iranian leadership has been demanding their share of revenue and assets that remained in Israel, no longer a country recognized by the Islamic Republic.
According to Business Insider, no one knows how much profit the EAPC has made or how much it is worth because it is protected in a similar way to Israel’s intelligence agencies through the use of gag orders. The source of its oil, while suspected to be mainly from former Soviet states, is also protected by the gag orders. Even Business Insider’s report states that the article had to pass through the military censor prior to publishing. However, we do know that the EAPC has reportedly become the largest distributor of oil in Israel with ambitions to become a major hub in the Mediterranean.
In 1994, Iran began pursuing an arbitration case against Israel, first in France and then in Switzerland. In 2016, the Swiss court handling the matter determined that the Israeli government owed Iran $260,000 for oil sent to Israel prior to the fall of the Shah in 1979 as part of a wider $1.2 billion owed to Iran (plus interest). Israel was also required to pay Iran’s legal fees of $208,000. Israel denied it was required to send money to an “enemy country,” but given that sanctions against Iran were supposed to have been lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015, the Swiss Court also ruled there were no legal obstacles preventing Israel from sending payment to Iran.
Now, the EAPC will continue to operate secretly following an Israeli parliamentary committee ruling at the end of December. It is now known as the Europe Asia Pipeline Co. (EAPC-B), a company owned by the Israeli government. The gag order protecting the pipeline has been extended five more years, and breaches of the gag order can incur a 15-year jail sentence.
Israel’s ability to punish people who document its energy-related ambitions far exceeds the power of a domestic gag order. In July 2014, the Guardian published journalist Nafeez Ahmed’s blog, which claimed Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza at the time was rooted in a desire to control Palestinian gas. The Guardian axed his blog not long after and released the following statement:
“Nafeez Ahmed is a freelance journalist who self-published blog posts on our environment blogging network for just over a year as a regular contributor. He has never been on the staff of the Guardian. His Guardian blog – Earth Insight – was about the link between the environment and geopolitics, but we took the decision to end the blog when a number of his posts on a range of subjects strayed too far from this brief.”
As journalist Jonathan Cook explained, the Guardian’s motives were all too apparent:
“Interestingly, Ahmed’s article went viral, becoming the most shared of any of the paper’s stories on Operation Protective Shield. But readers appear to have had better news judgment than the Guardian’s editors. Rather than congratulate him, the Guardian effectively fired Ahmed, as he details in the link below. No one has suggested that there were errors in the story, and no correction has been appended to the article.”
Ahmed also wrote in the Guardian on a separate occasion detailing how the Syrian war was also similarly fueled by a natural gas pipeline dispute, which undoubtedly also affected Israel in its bid to become a major player in the gas industry.
Israel barely has enough energy resources of its own to maintain even 50 percent of its exports. In 2000, there was a discovery of 1.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off the Gaza coast, valued at $4 billion. Israel also later made other monumental discoveries of gas in Syria and Lebanon, as well, two known adversaries of the Israeli government. Israel is eager to intervene in both countries (for completely unrelated reasons, of course).
Anyone who tells you that natural resources like oil and gas do not play into Israel’s regional ambitions is either lying to you or grossly misinformed. Israel is even reportedly attempting to revive a century-old railway to connect the country to the wider Middle East – including Saudi Arabia – with the intention of outmaneuvering Iran and creating a fully-fledged anti-Iran axis based solely on trade.
Clearly, Israel’s infatuation with Iran has little to do with baseless claims about Iran’s non-existent nuclear weapons and everything to do with money and resources. Israel was happy to do business with a brutal Iranian dictator some decades ago, only to pretend to care about human rights now when Iranians take to the streets to protest an equally questionable regime.
Let’s call a spade a spade and recognize pipeline politics for what it is – the driving force behind the current regional standoff plaguing the Middle East and beyond.

Helga Salemon: Putin verdraait de boel weer, nu i.z. de door de Turken neergehaalde straaljager…….

Helga Salemon, de anti-Russische propagandist op Radio1 (‘Rusland deskundige…’), tapte gisteren weer lekker uit het anti-Putin vat (R1 na 16.00 u). Volgens deze enorme fantast zou Putin de boel weer eens verdraaid hebben, waar het gaat om de door Turkije neergehaalde Russische straaljager……. Letterlijk zei ze: “Hij vormt het in zijn versie van het verhaal om…” Dit daar de Russen stellen, dat deze straaljager in het Syrisch luchtruim vloog (terwijl Salemon niet eens wist, of de beschuldiging van Turkije klopt…)…….. Peter Wijninga van het Haags Centrum voor Strategische Studies (HCSS), stelde dat Rusland al niet in de buurt van de grens had mogen vliegen…….. Dit terwijl Turkije m.n. door dit gebied de hulp voor IS en andere terreurgroepen Syrië binnenbrengt en IS olie wordt uitgevoerd naar Turkije….. Uiteraard twijfelt Salemon niet aan de Turkse versie van het verhaal, punt 1: de Russen zijn immers altijd schuldig, punt 2: als dat niet zo is, zie punt 1…….

Salemon vertelde over het gebied in het Noordwesten van Syrië, waar over de grens met Turkije, de jager zou zijn neergehaald*, een gebied is waar Turkmenen wonen en dat die goed bevriend zijn met Turkije en dan m.n. met Erdogan, die zich als de grote kalief van de Turken ziet, waar ook ter wereld (de laatste toevoeging is uiteraard niet van Salemon)……. Salemon stelde nog even, dat Rusland alleen de Turkmenen en ‘gematigde rebellen’ (lees terreurgroepen) bombardeert, maar niet IS, terwijl Rusland in de korte tijd, dat het deelneemt aan deze strijd meer IS doelen raakte, dan de VS in een jaar tijd…… Sterker nog, de Russen hebben gezorgd, dat IS haar olie niet meer kan vervoeren (o.a. naar Turkije, zoals gezegd, via datzelfde ‘Turkmeense gebied’), zwaar tegen de zin van de kalief van Turkije, Erdogan, die maar al te graag die olie importeerde…………

Wat Salemon vergat te vertellen, of het ADHD leeghoofd weet dit niet eens, is het feit, dat zoals (nogmaals) gezegd het Noordwestelijk gebied van Syrië de plek is waarvandaan Turkije haar steun kan geven aan de terreurgroepen in Syrië……..**

Later op de middag bij BNR na 17.00 u., vertelde Marc Guillet (correspondent in Turkije) wat er was gebeurd, toen de piloten aan hun parachute hingen…. De hufter stelde, dat die Turkmenen hebben gedacht, daar heb je de moordenaars en ze daarom doodschoten terwijl ze nog niet op de grond waren…. Niet dat hij dit had gehoord van de moordenaars, maar dat bedacht hij voor de radiomicrofoon en vertelde dit als ware het een feit, hij noemde nog net het woord ‘terecht’ niet……… Intussen blijkt één van de piloten gruwelijk te zijn vermoord op de grond, de ander is gered door het Syrische leger………

* Al kwam de straaljager in Syrië neer, evenals de piloten, die met een schietstoel wisten te ontkomen…….
