Fed: ‘financiële methadon’ zal de grootste recessie ooit veroorzaken

Gerald Celente, publicist van Trends Journal gaf vorige week vrijdag een interview, waarin hij de wereld waarschuwt voor het ongelimiteerd geld bijdrukken en het verlagen van de rente, zaken die grote bedrijven met veel schulden en aandelenhandelaren ten goede zullen komen…….

Ondanks dat het goed is voor de aandelenmarkten en bedrijven met grote schulden, die zo kunnen blijven uitbreiden, is de keerzijde een enorme schuldbubbel in de VS, een schuldenlast van houd je vast: 250 biljoen dollar!! Vandaar dat Celente dan ook de vergelijking met methadon maakt (eigenlijk bedoelt hij heroïne): ze blijven het lichaam van een stier volspuiten, zodat deze blijft rennen, maar de economieën elders worden er niet mee gestimuleerd en we zien nu dan ook een globale economische afzwakking…..

Celente wijst voorts op de waarschuwingen van het IMF en de Wereldbank voor een recessie door deze enorme schuld….. Miljardair en oprichter van Bridgewater, Ray Dalio, verklaarde onlangs dat hij nu als Celente vooral inzet op goud…. Ofwel de directeur van het grootste hedgefonds ter wereld maakt zich zorgen over een grote depressie (en tegelijkertijd uiteraard een recessie)…….

Mensen zien wat er gebeurt terwijl de centrale banken geld blijven bijdrukken en de rentes verlagen, waar de Fed e.e.a. niet langer quantative easing* (QE) wil noemen (waar het natuurlijk wel QE is, immers het ‘gereedschap’ daarvoor wordt wel degelijk gebruikt..)….

Verder stelt Celente terecht dat veel mensen die niets meer bezitten en die alle vertrouwen in regering en financiële markten zijn verloren in opstand komen, daarbij noemde hij o.a. Libanon, jammer want daar zijn de CIA en de Mossad bezig de boel op te stoken, zoals de CIA dat ook pleegt te doen in Iran, Venezuela en Bolivia, plus alle andere landen waar de VS de verkiezingen manipuleert, of mensen opstookt in verzet te gaan……. Daarbij worden uiteraard wapens en explosieven geleverd**, als dat niet werkt kan de VS altijd nog een staatsgreep forceren en als ook dat niet lukt, begint de VS op basis van een berg leugens een illegale oorlog tegen zo’n land……..

Ook noemt Celente Bolivia en verdomd alweer is de opstand daar ingegeven door de CIA, immers het gaat veel te goed met Bolivia en dat is te danken aan de opnieuw gekozen socialistische president Evo Morales, kijk daar heeft de VS de schurft aan, een links land, waar het ook nog eens goed gaat met de economie……***

Voorts heeft Celente wel gelijk dat het water het volk aan de lippen staat in landen als: Ecuador, Chili, Columbia, Spanje en Hong Kong (al heb ik ook bij die laatste zware bedenkingen, immers er wordt daar in de eerste plaats niet gedemonstreerd omdat men het het financieel slecht vergaat en je kan er ook daar donder opzeggen dat de CIA een dikke vinger in de pap heeft, immers men verwacht dat China uiteindelijk zal ingrijpen en zo kan men China afschilderen als een nog demonischer staat…) Dit terwijl de VS de ene illegale oorlog na de andere begint…..

Vergeet bij dit alles niet dat figuren als Celente een zekere politieke macht hebben en deze macht misbruiken om zaken zo te sturen dat zij er voordeel bij hebben….. (niet alleen in de VS, maar ook in het buitenland…)

Celente: Fed’s ‘Monetary Methadone’ Causing ‘The Greatest Depression’

Trends Journal publisher Gerald Celente gave a rather stark interview Friday in which he said central banks around the world are causing “The Greatest Depression,” and that we’ve already passed Stage 1 as unrest builds in more and more countries.

Celente, speaking with Kitco News, first commented on the Federal Reserve’s latest interest rate cut, the third since July — and third since 2008 — essentially calling it a big mistake for everyone but stock traders and companies with massive corporate debt.

“It’s positive for the equity markets and the huge debt that corporations are taking in to keep expanding. But on the negative end, they’re just building more debt into the already over $250 trillion debt bubble,” he said. “So what it is, I call it ‘monetary methadone;’ they’re just shooting in more money to keep the addicted bull running. It’s not boosting economies around the world — we’re looking at a global slowdown.

“The IMF, the World Bank, one after another are warning of a recession.”

Celente then pointed out that billionaire Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio has been following what Trends Journal has written about the beginning of the gold bull run, and how he came out a couple of weeks later and said he is bullish on gold.

“This is the head of the largest hedge fund in the world and then just a few weeks ago, he said now he’s worried about a Great Depression,” Celente said.

“So the people see it and it’s just artificially being boosted by central banks injecting more cheap money, lowering interest rates, and now we have the Federal Reserve — we’re not going to call it ‘quantitative easing,’ we’re going to make up another story.

“We’re pumping in $60 billion a month to buy Treasurys — oh and by the way, $120 billion a day into the repo markets.”

Celente went on to say that what the Fed is doing is “only temporary” and the crash won’t be held off forever.

“You’re seeing housing sales go back up, mortgage refis go back up because the money is cheap,” he said. “But the earnings aren’t there, the debt levels for the consumers are getting heavier and heavier, so it’s artificially propping it up just like it did since the panic of ’08. It hasn’t filtered back to society, it’s only gone to the 1%. And I’m not making that number up. You have three people in the United States, (Jeff) Bezos, (Warren) Buffett and (Bill) Gates, who have more money than half of America’s population.

“And then you go around the world and, according to OxFam, what do they have? Twenty-six people have more dough than half the world’s population combined. So, no, it’s not working. It’s only making it worse.”

So where should investors go to protect their wealth?

“I call it the guns, gold and the getaway plan,” Celente quipped after saying he’s no financial adviser. “Speaking for only myself, gold is the No. 1 investment, and I’ve been saying that since I began buying gold in 1970.”

Celente said he’s long on both physical gold and stocks, including the “IRA, the GLD ETFs.”

“I have some silver, but gold is my priority,” he added. “I have two-thirds gold.”

The host then mentioned uprisings in a number of countries around the world and asked what it all means, and Celente said it’s the beginning of “The Greatest Depression.”

“It’s signalling the people have had it. Again, the money’s gone to the 1%. When people lose everything and have nothing left to lose, they lose it, and they’re losing it,” Celente said. “This is part of The Greatest Depression, it’s Stage 1, it’s already happened. Millions of people taking to the street, protesting that they don’t have enough money to live while they’re getting higher taxes, costing more for everyday living. So they’ve had it and this is extremely important: All these movements don’t have leaders. Whether it’s Hong Kong, whether it’s Spain, whether it’s Lebanon, what’s going on in Iraq with the massive demonstrations, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Columbia, one after another, no leaders because the people feel it. And this is part of the Greatest Depression.

“When we say it’s going to get worse, when The Great Depression hit, there were 2 billion people on the planet. We’ve added 5.5 billion more. They’re out of work, they’re living in poverty, violence all around them, corruption. So this thing is exploding.”

Lagarde (top ECB): “Je kan beter een baan hebben dan spaargeld”

Lagarde heeft afgelopen vrijdag de baan van topgraaier Draghi als president van de Europese Centrale Bank (ECB) overgenomen, ook al heeft zij bepaald geen financieel economische opleiding gevolgd. Alle hoop van een aantal centrale banken in de EU op een ander beleid dan dat van Draghi werd vrijwel onmiddellijk de grond ingeboord. Vreemd overigens die verwachting, immers Lagarde is ook verantwoordelijk voor de gore spelletjes die het IMF sinds 2011 heeft gespeeld, in dat jaar werd ze directeur van deze inhumane neoliberale organisatie…..

Overigens, Lagarde is in feite een veroordeelde misdadiger, die haar straf van een jaar gevangenisstraf ontliep daar er anders een crisis in het IMF zou zijn ontstaan, dit nadat haar voorganger en verkrachter Strrauss-Kahn het veld moest ruimen….. Ongelofelijk daarom ook dat de ondemocratische EU Lagarde koos als topgraaier van de ECB…….

Lagarde nam haar functie bij de ECB op o.a. door Nederland en Duitsland te manen hun overschot te investeren, voorts begon Lagarde te zeuren over onderlinge ‘solidariteit’, ofwel steek ook je kont diep in de schulden. Wat betreft het ‘beleid’ van Draghi: Lagarde gaat gewoon door op de doodlopende weg die Draghi eerder heeft bewandeld: obligaties van landen opkopen en het verlagen van de rente tot nog verder onder de – 0,5%, die nu al ingevoerd wordt (zo ongeveer de laatste actie van Draghi), ofwel een rente die nog verder onder het ‘nulpunt’ zal dalen, anders gezegd: negatieve rente (waarmee geld lenen zelfs geld zou moeten opleveren, al zal dat ‘natuurlijk niet’ voor het gewone volk opgaan…)….

Dat daardoor een flink aantal mensen in de problemen komt interesseert autocraat Lagarde net zo min als haar voorganger Draghi, schijt aan de pensioenen die mensen hun werkende leven lang hebben opgebouwd, dokken en niet zeuren……. Ook de kleine spaarders kunnen wat Lagarde betreft doodvallen, ze durfde keihard te zeggen dat je beter een baan kan hebben dan geld op de bank….. Moet je nagaan: de misdadige dweil Lagarde gaat een inkomen verdienen van rond de 4 ton op jaarbasis is en dat is exclusief een gigantische onkostenvergoeding……

Taaie stof mensen, het hieronder opgenomen artikel van Tyler Durden, maar zeer de moeite van het lezen waard (het artikel werd eerder gepubliceerd op Zero Hedge). Daaronder een verduidelijking over QE ofwel Quantitative Easing, een artikel van Investopedia, QE of het waanzinnige beleid van Draghi om zoveel mogelijk obligaties van EU landen op te kopen (ook werden schulden van banken in Zuid-Europa opgekocht, waardoor de Grieken de regie in eigen land zijn kwijtgeraakt en nog steeds diep in de ellende zitten…)….

De ECB heeft overigens al aangekondigd, na de stop van één jaar, opnieuw bonussen ter waarde van 20 miljard euro op te willen kopen, ook al is het allesbehalve duidelijk of dit ook maar iets heeft opgeleverd voor de EU, behalve dan dat de drukpersen voor papiergeld overuren maakten en ons geld in feite steeds minder waard werd ook al merken we daar nu nog weinig van….. (dat gebeurt als de volgende crisis zich aandient en zoals je weet die komt eraan, de vraag is wanneer precies)

Lagarde: “We Should Be Happier To Have A Job Than To Have Savings”

Any hopes that the replacement of Mario Draghi, who on Halloween left the ECB more polarized than ever, as the core European nations revolted against the Italian’s profligately loose monetary policy in an unprecedented public demonstration of discord within the European Central Bank…

… with the ECB’s new head, former IMF Director and convicted criminal, Christine Lagarde would result in some easing of tensions, were promptly crushed when Lagarde picked up where Draghi left off, calling on Germany and the Netherlands to use their budget surpluses to fund investments that would help stimulate the economy, in a sharp rebuke that will not win the former French finance minister any friends in fiscally conservative Germany.

In an appeal to Germany’s sense of solidarity, and in hopes that Germany’s memory of hyperinflation has faded enough, Lagarde said that there “isn’t enough solidarity” in the single currency area, adding: “We share a currency, but we don’t share much budgetary policy for now.”

“Those that have the room for manoeuvre, those that have a budget surplus, that’s to say Germany, the Netherlands, why not use that budget surplus and invest in infrastructure? Why not invest in education? Why not invest in innovation, to allow for a better rebalancing?” asked Lagarde, blaming Germany and the Netherlands for living within their means, and demanding they should no longer do so, just because most other Europeans decided to pull a page out of the American playbook, and live exorbitantly outside of their means.

Lagarde’s direct attempt at shaming Europe’s fiscal conservatives was nothing short of shocking: normally ECB officials avoid naming individual countries in public statements, because their mandate is to act in the interests of the eurozone as a whole. But when Lagarde made her speech she had not yet officially taken over at the Frankfurt-based institution — she succeeds Mario Draghi on Friday.

We somehow doubt this “explanation” will fly with the German population, which sees itself as funding peripheral Europe’s profligate ways for the past decade, even as it benefited from the weak euro to supercharge the German export machine.

And just to guarantee she is as resented by Germany as was Mario Draghi, she said that the German and Dutch governments, which last year had budget surpluses of 2% and 1.5% respectively, “have not really made the necessary efforts,” she added, referring to establishment’s increasing desperation to force anyone with an even remotely normal balance sheet to sink to the same level as their insolvent peers.

As for the punchline, Lagarde defended the negative interest rates introduced by her predecessor Draghi, arguing that people should be happier to have a job than a higher savings rate. This, as a reminder, comes at a time when virtually everyone who is not named “Draghi” or “Lagarde” thinks that negative rates are catastrophic, and assure doom for the Eurozone.

When asked about the impact of negative rates on savers, Ms Lagarde said on Thursday that they should think about how much worse the situation would be if the ECB had not cut rates as much as it had.

“Would we not be in a situation today with much higher unemployment and a far lower growth rate, and isn’t it true that ultimately we have done the right thing to act in favor of jobs and of growth rather than the protection of savers?” she asked.

The unemployment rate in the 19-country eurozone has fallen from 12 per cent in 2013 to 8.2 per cent last year. GDP growth in the single currency zone was 1.8 per cent last year and the ECB expects it to slow to 1.1 per cent this year.

Finally, for those curious if the authorities will stop at anything to destroy the currency and send rates to even more negative levels if it means kicking the can on a global, populist uprising, by just a few months, weeks or days, here is the answer: “We should be happier to have a job than to have our savings protected,” said Lagarde.

“I think that it is in this spirit that monetary policy has been decided by my predecessors and I think they made quite a beneficial choice.”

Let’s check back on that statement in a year, shall we?

Of course, there is no magic solution here: all the ECB has done is kick the can, and ensure that the next crisis will be even worse than if some semblance of a price-clearing reality had been allowed under Draghi’s 8 years. Instead, the ECB’s balance sheet exploded to €4.7 trillion euros, as the world’s largest central bank-cum-hedge fund bought every bond in sight in hopes of keeping asset prices artificially elevated.

In October, the ECB, less than a year after it ended QE* in a failed attempt to “renormalize” monetary policy, announced it would cut rates to a record -0.5% and unveiled open-ended plans to start buying €20bn of bonds starting in November.

Needless to say, the comments by the former French finance minister confirm market expectations that she is likely to pursue similar monetary policy strategy to Draghi who flooded the financial system with cheap money to fight slowing growth and inflation while calling on governments to do more through fiscal policy to take the burden off the central bank.

In the end, the consequences of Draghi’s monetary policy, as we explained before, will be catastrophic, but the former Goldman partner was wise enough to get off the European Titanic before it hit the iceberg. It will now be Lagarde’s task to save as many people as possible once the ship starts sinking, and judging by her remarks, she is perfectly fine of not only going down with the ship, but also being blamed for the collision.

What Is Quantitative Easing? (QE)

Quantitative easing is an unconventional monetary policy in which a central bank purchases government securities or other securities from the market in order to increase the money supply and encourage lending and investment. When short-term interest rates are at or approaching zero, normal open market operations, which target interest rates, are no longer effective, so instead a central bank can target specified amounts of assets to purchase. Quantitative easing increases the money supply by purchasing assets with newly created bank reserves in order to provide banks with more liquidity.

The Drawbacks of Quantitative Easing

If central banks increase the money supply, it can cause inflation. In a worst-case scenario, the central bank may cause inflation through QE without economic growth, causing a period of so-called stagflation. Although most central banks are created by their countries’ government and are involved in some regulatory oversight, central banks can’t force the banks to increase lending or force borrowers to seek loans and invest. If the increased money supply does not work its way through the banks and into the economy, QE may not be effective except as a tool to facilitate deficit spending (i.e. fiscal policy).

Another potentially negative consequence is that quantitative easing can devalue the domestic currency. For manufacturers, this may help stimulate growth because exported goods would be cheaper in the global market. However, a falling currency value makes imports more expensive, which can increase the cost of production and consumer price levels.

Is Quantitative Easing Effective?

During the QE programs conducted by the U.S. Federal Reserve starting in 2008, the Fed increased the money supply by $4 trillion. This means that the asset side of the Fed’s balance sheet grew significantly as it purchased bonds, mortgages, and other assets. The Fed’s liabilities, primarily reserves at U.S. banks, grew by the same amount. The goal was that the banks would lend and invest those reserves to stimulate growth.

However, as you can see in the following chart, banks held onto much of that money as excess reserves. At its peak, U.S. banks held $2.7 trillion in excess reserves, which was an unexpected outcome for the Fed’s QE program.

Most economists believe that the Fed’s QE program helped rescue the U.S. (and world) economy following the 2008 financial crisis. However, the magnitude of its role in the subsequent recovery is more debated and impossible to quantify. Other central banks have attempted to deploy QE to fight recession and deflation with similarly cloudy results.

Following the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997, Japan fell into an economic recession. Beginning in 2000, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) began an aggressive QE program to curb deflation and to stimulate the economy. The Bank of Japan moved from buying Japanese government bonds to buying private debt and stocks. The QE campaign failed to meet its goals. Ironically, the BoJ governors had concluded that “QE was not effective” just months before launching their program in 2000. Between 1995 and 2007, Japanese GDP fell from $5.45 trillion to $4.52 trillion in nominal terms, despite the BoJ’s efforts.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) also employed a QE strategy following the 2008 financial crisis. Eventually, the SNB owned assets nearly equal to annual economic output for the entire country, which made the SNB’s version of QE the largest in the world as a ratio to GDP. Although economic growth has been positive during the subsequent recovery, how much the SNB’s QE program contributed to that recovery is uncertain. For example, although it was the largest QE program in the world as a ratio to GDP and interest rates were pushed below 0%, the SNB was still unable to achieve its inflation targets.

In August 2016, the Bank of England (BoE) announced that it would launch an additional QE program to help alleviate concerns over “Brexit.” The plan was for the BoE to buy 60 billion pounds of government bonds and 10 billion pounds in corporate debt. If successful, the plan should have kept interest rates from rising in the U.K. and stimulated business investment and employment.

From August 2016 through June 2018, the Office for National Statistics in the U.K. reported that gross fixed capital formation (a measure of business investment) was growing at an average quarterly rate of 0.4 percent, which was lower than the average from 2009 through 2018. The challenge for economists is to detect whether growth would have been worse without quantitative easing.

Ecuadoraanse oorspronkelijke bevolking behaalt grote overwinning op de ‘Dag van de Oorspronkelijke Bevolking’, voorheen Columbusdag

Afgelopen maandag was het Columbusdag, ook in Ecuador, een dag die men daar volkomen terecht heeft omgedoopt in wat je in Nederland zou kunnen noemen, de ‘Dag van de Oorspronkelijke Bevolking’, immers met de komst van Columbus startte de genocide op de oorspronkelijke volkeren van de 3 Amerika’s……

Het IMF heeft voor de oorspronkelijke Ecuadoraanse bevolking, grotendeels het Waorani volk, de plaats ingenomen van Columbus….. Vanwege aangekondigde olieboringen in het gebied van dit volk vonden de laatste jaren grote protesten plaats, met een intensivering in de afgelopen maanden…… Ecuador ook één van de landen, waar de oorspronkelijke bevolking nog steeds wordt achtergesteld (zoals deze zin al aangaf: dit is in alle 3 Amerika’s hetzelfde….)…..

Afgelopen maandag was het ook de dag dat het Waorani volk een belangrijke overwinning behaalde, na 11 dagen protest die het land hebben verlamd, heeft het IMF het nakijken en de deal met de regering voor een lening van 4,4 miljard dollar gaat niet door!! Met de lening zou de regering van Ecuador zichzelf deels ‘buitenspel hebben gezet’ daar met die lening de Ecuadoraanse economie hervormd zou worden, privatisering van staatsbedrijven, het uitputten van de Ecuadoraanse ‘bodemschatten’ als olieboringen in het oerwoud waar de oorspronkelijke bevolking voor een groot deel woont…… Daarnaast nog een aantal hervormingen, die alleen als neoliberaal kunnen worden aangeduid, ofwel ijskoud, inhumaan, neoliberaal IMF beleid dat in het voordeel werkt van de welgestelden, de grote bedrijven en de rechtse politiek……..

De weg naar deze overwinning van het Waorani volk heeft wel een zware tol geëist, maar liefst 7 doden en duizenden mensen die gewond raakten en een evenzo grote hoeveelheid arrestaties……

Victory in Ecuador on Indigenous Peoples Day

Today marks the 527th year anniversary since the arrival of the conquistadors to the Americas – a day formerly known to many as Columbus Day is now rightfully known as Indigenous People’s Day.

And in Ecuador, the International Monetary Fund is the new Columbus.

Just yesterday, after 11 days of nationwide indigeous-led mobilizations that paralyzed the country, Ecuador’s indigenous movement compelled their government to pay heed to their demands over those of the International Monetary Fund, an important victory for indigenous organizing and pluri-national democracy, and a powerful blow to a 4.4 billion IMF-backed loan deal that seeks to restructure the Ecuadorian economy towards privatization, resource-extraction, and other severe neo-liberal economic reforms.

As the dust settles, the indigenous movement is taking stock of the high costs of this struggle, with at least 7 dead and thousands arrested or injured, as well as the road ahead to demand accountability for brutal human rights violations by the Ecuadorian government. What comes next will define the future of Ecuador and indigenous peoples for generations to come.

Historicus spreekt schande over gebrek aan onderzoek door reguliere media naar Britse banden met dictaturen

Mark Curtis, een historicus maakt zich flink pissig over het gebrek van de reguliere media om de Britse regering te confronteren met haar groeiende banden met repressieve regimes, ofwel dictaturen. Curtis begrijpt het niet helemaal, maar de media in GB (en de rest van het westen) zijn er vooral om de bestaande neoliberale status quo te bewaren, maar dat terzijde……

De Britse minister van internationale ontwikkeling. Andrew Murrison, heeft gesteld dat GB een sterke partner is van ‘de Egyptische reis’ die tot economische hervormingen* moet leiden…… De Britse regering ondersteunt momenteel 16 projecten in Egypte, inclusief het UK Action Against Corruption Programme (UAACP)…….. Voorts werkt GB ook op het gebied van ‘veiligheid’ samen met Egypte……

De neoliberale Britse regering had zelfs het gore lef te stellen dat de Egyptische overgang naar democratie de potentie heeft om een voorbeeld in de regio te zijn….. (als het gvd niet zo’n enorme puinhoop was in Egypte wat betreft de schendingen van mensenrechten, executies enz., zou je je daadwerkelijk doodlachen……)

In 2013 heeft het Egyptische leger bij de coup van al-Sisi 900 mensen vermoord en meer dan 1.000 mensen (van licht tot zwaar) verwond……

De Egyptische overheid martelt, verkracht en dood tegenstanders en ondanks dat steunen westerse landen, waaronder Nederland de Egyptische dictatuur….. De VS is de grootste ‘donor’ van de bloedige dictatuur in Egypte en geeft het land jaarlijks 1 miljard aan militaire hulp……. GB steekt in totaal 67 miljoen pond in Egypte en dat voor 16 projecten……

En dan durft het westen nog steeds een grote bek over de democratisch gekozen Syrische president Assad te hebben en dat op basis van leugens, terwijl in Egypte de mensenrechten openlijk worden geschonden, een land dat de ene misdaad tegen de menselijkheid na de andere begaat…….

An ‘ever-growing partnership’ amid corruption allegations

The 15 September announcement quoted international development minister Andrew Murrison calling the UK “a strong partner of Egypt and its economic reform journey” and speaking of “our ever-growing economic partnership”. Indeed, the British government currently has 16 ‘active projects’ in Egypt, including the UK Action Against Corruption Programme ([UAACP] with a budget of £39,126,318) and two Egypt Country Programmes (with a combined budget of £27,992,471).

The latter pledge to “support Egypt’s economic reform agenda in support of the IMF [International Monetary Fund] programme”, and also involves “security cooperation”.

Elsewhere, the UK government has said:

Egypt’s transition to a democratic state has the potential to be the role model for many other states in the region.

At the moment, however, Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is facing allegations from a former military contractor that he has spent “millions of dollars of public money on palaces, villas, and hotels”. And as academic Dalia Fahmy told Middle East Eye:

This comes at a time of [IMF-backed] austerity programmes in Egypt, the rising cost of basic goods, and at a time where President Sisi has asked the average Egyptian to sacrifice even more for the future of the country…

For the average Egyptian to see state funds misappropriated to bankroll the building of luxury homes for the president and his family during times of austerity, that seems to cut deeper than the revelation of government corruption.

El-Sisi has denied misusing public funds.

“Unprecedented levels of repression” (and Western support)

In an open letter to the UN Human Rights Council on 17 September, 18 organisations (including Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders) insisted:

Since the last review of Egypt’s record in 2014, human rights violations have increased sharply and the undersigned organisations and our partners have documented unprecedented levels of repression against human rights organisations and human rights defenders.

As signatory Human Rights Watch explained:

The organizations made a series of recommendations concerning the death penalty, torture, violence against women and girls, detention of activists and rights defenders, and a crackdown on freedom of expression and assembly, among other human rights violations.

Despite the above, the UK isn’t the only “strong partner” of el-Sisi’s regime. The US is also a major long-term supporter of the state. As Reuters reported in 2015, “Egypt is the second-largest recipient of U.S. military assistance after Israel”. In fact, it routinely gets over a billion dollars in military aid each year.

Earlier this month, the US released $1.3bn in military aid. An official memo “waived human rights conditions” despite admitting that el-Sisi has “restricted freedom of expression”, “actively prevented civil dissent and cut down on democratic reforms”. The Egyptian government also approved constitutional changes in April which could see el-Sisi stay on as president until 2030 while increasing his “power over the judiciary”. In 2014, 47.5% of Egypt’s eligible voters participated in an election where the vast majority elected him as president. Then, in the 2018 elections, only 41% of voters turned up to vote – again handing him an overwhelming victory.

When will the media hold our governments to account?

El-Sisi overthrew Egypt’s democratically-elected government in a military coup in 2013. Weeks later, he oversaw a state massacre of civilians. This caused over 900 deaths and injured over 1,000 people. And as Al Jazeera reported in August 2019, “no one has ever been brought to trial and the Egyptian government has yet to transparently investigate the massacre”.

Despite the allegations of corruption and mass repression, however, Western support remains.

The US still gives el-Sisi’s regime vast amounts of military aid; and the UK continues to sell it weapons. They do exactly the same with many other brutal regimes around the world. And amazingly, they still act like they have the moral authority to lecture other nations on democracy and human rights.

You’ll see almost no coverage of this in the corporate media, though. Because that wouldn’t be good for business.

We deserve so much better – from both our politicians and our media. And we’ll only get that when we stand up and demand better.

Honduras 10 jaar na de VS coup: het verzet is springlevend en de repressie groot

10 jaar na de door Hillary Clinton en de CIA opgezette bloedige coup (28 juni 2009) is het intussen al meer dan 60 dagen onrustig in het land, dit als reactie op het plan om ook op gezondheidszorg en onderwijs te bezuinigen….. Middels massaal verzet, ook van de beroepskrachten, is deze bezuiniging van de baan, maar het verzet blijft doorgaan daar de ellende groot is onder het gewone volk, ook al is er gevaar voor arrestatie waarbij mensen in op VS leest gebouwde extra beveiligde gevangenissen worden opgesloten……

De internationale neoliberale uitzuigorganisatie IMF heeft een akkoord bereikt met de regering van Honduras over privatisering van staatsbedrijven, het programma dat hiervoor wordt gevolgd is door sommigen als ‘neoliberalisme op steroïden’ weggezet….

De vrouw van een criticaster van dat programma vertelt dat haar man in de gevangenis zit, NB betaald middels de Hondurese veiligheidsbelasting, een belastingsturing die werd gesteund door de regisseur van de coup in 2009, hare kwaadaardigheid Hillary Clinton, destijds minister van BuZa onder Obama, waarbij de politie en leger, plus de geheime diensten kapitalen extra kregen, terwijl de rest van de departementen in feite moesten bezuinigen, of rond zien te komen van een veel te laag budget….. De gevangenis waarin de bewuste man vastzit en die op VS leest is gebouwd, werd betaald uit die veiligheidsbelasting…….

Het neoliberalisme heeft ervoor gezorgd dat een groot aantal mensen in diepe armoede is beland, niet voor niets dat velen het land uitvluchten, als ze dat al niet uit angst voor overheid en doodseskaders hebben gedaan………

Lees het volgende ontluisterende verhaal en lees de interviews (via link) en begrijp waarom zoveel Hondurese mensen het land zijn ontvlucht, mensen worden vermoord door doodseskaders die niet zelden uit overheidsfunctionarissen bestaan en zoals al vaak vertoond in Latijns-Amerika: ‘mensen verdwijnen……’ Overigens ook drugsbendes zorgen voor grote ellende en vermoorden mensen als waren het insecten….. Bij de protesten die hebben geleid tot het stopzetten van de bezuinigingen op onderwijs en gezondheidszorg zijn een groot aantal studenten neergeschoten, als gevolg daarvan is een aantal van hen overleden……

In het hierna volgende artikel spreekt de schrijver over de neoliberale agenda van ‘president’ Hernandez (JOH), die illegaal een tweede termijn dient met steun van de VS, echter gezien het verhaal kan je niet anders concluderen dan dat we hier met een fascistisch beleid te maken hebben……

“The US Got Scared” Voices of the Resistance in Post-Coup Honduras

Members of the resistance in Honduras tell MintPress how a US-backed coup – and the Neoliberalism it brought with it – have impacted their country.

EGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS — MintPress News went to Honduras and spoke with a number of leaders of the Honduran resistance amid a 66-day uprising over a neoliberal austerity deal reached between the government as the country marked the 10-year anniversary of the U.S.-backed coup d’etat.

Last Thursday, the Honduran government passed a privatization law, the run-up to which had triggered uprisings challenging the mandate of President Juan Orlando Hernandez and protesting the implementation of a privatization deal reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — a deal kept secret until this week. The battle against it was fought tooth and nail, with average Hondurans following the lead of healthcare and education activists.

MintPress has obtained a copy of the law. The document details the government’s plan to sever 6 billion lempiras ($242 million USD), and includes instituting a maximum wage on public sector contract “technical and professional” workers amounting to $2,426 a month, but promises not to cut healthcare and education. An agreement with the IMF over the state-run electrical company remains in question.

What is known is that the deal consists of more of the same neoliberal remedies that have already devastated Honduran civil society. One person interviewed by MintPress called the approach “neoliberalism on steroids.” And she would know: her husband is a political prisoner sitting in a U.S.-designed maximum security facility. The prison was paid for under the Honduran Security Tax, a program backed by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that bankrolls the military and police while the rest of the government is gutted.

Adrienne Pine, a Professor of Anthropology at American University in Washington and expert on Honduras, told MintPress:

“The fact that education and healthcare were left out is a pretty big win for the movement because that is what they were planning to cut, and the healthcare and education workers who have led this struggle against this have prevented those cuts even though there has been this very radical reduction in public spending.”

On May 6, the IMF announced it had reached a “staff level agreement” that was believed to be targeted towards healthcare, education and more. That same day, protests started breaking out.

But as news emerged on Tuesday of the deal becoming law, the IMF also announced its approval of a plan to restructure the public electric company and said it would give the Honduran government $311 million in loans over the next two years. Around the same time, a fresh corruption scandal was unfolding at the electric company. Professor Pine explained to MintPress:

“ENEE [the Honduran public electric company] has already been subject to privatization measures over the past few years that have significantly weakened it. Problems in the ENEE have to do, at their root, with the privatization itself, but right now it looks like the IMF and the U.S. are justifying the privatization by using examples of corruption at the agency rather than addressing the underlying structural issues.”

The resistance in Honduras fought off further privatization of health care and education in a struggle that left piles of students shot and scores of people killed, as well as resulting in the political imprisonment of a young man who is accused of fueling a fire at the U.S. Embassy in the capital. Romel Valdemar Herrera Portillo, 23, sits in a military-run prison, designed by the United States, called La Tova alongside political prisoners Edwin Espinal and Raúl Álvarez.

In this article, MintPress will feature exclusive interviews not just with leaders of the Honduran resistance but also with people who have been directly affected by the coup and all that it has brought.’

Ten years of resistance

The history of the past decade in Honduras is among the most telling examples of U.S.-backed regime change in the Western Hemisphere. A powder keg for the migrant crisis that popped up under Barack Obama and worsened under Donald Trump, the military operation that deposed leftist reformer Manuel Zelaya from the presidency informs Honduran life at every level today.

MintPress News traveled to Honduras around the 10-year anniversary of the coup d’etat, speaking to a range of leaders of the resistance against the National Party, which has dominated politics in the country since the coup. The National Party is led by President Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH), a widely reviled neoliberal leader believed to be involved in drug trafficking, electoral fraud and death squads.

The post-coup neoliberal policies ramped up under JOH’s reign have rendered Honduras a playground for the business elite and drug cartels and brought the poverty rate to levels unrivaled in the region. Disappearances and lethal violence from police, private mercenaries and drug cartels have also skyrocketed.

Revelations that JOH has been under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) since 2013, according to U.S. federal court documents released this year, came as little surprise to many in the resistance; JOH’s brother is himself in prison in the U.S. on drug trafficking charges. But it did pour salt on fresh wounds, as the United States backed JOH’s re-election in 2017, even though the Honduran constitution explicitly forbids second terms.

While in Honduras, MintPress examined the effects of the coup from multiple angles, including: cuts to education; repression against students and teachers; cuts to the healthcare sector; the political development of Hondurans; electoral fraud; death squads linked to big business; the conditions of political prisoners and the plight of human rights workers; and the effects of neoliberalism on the healthcare sector. MintPress also looked at the role of creative culture in the resistance.

As MintPress previously reported, staff journalist Alex Rubinstein was detained immediately upon landing in the capital, Tegucigalpa. It was “a testament to the government’s unease” around the anniversary of the coup and in the face of more than 50 days of active uprising.

MintPress spent nearly a week in the capital, Tegucigalpa, a city that is both militarized and yet ruled by crime at night, a dynamic that makes the often cozy relationship between the state and organized crime palpable throughout much of the city. The prevalence of anti-JOH and anti-National Party graffiti appears as a glimmering of an uprising in a city otherwise divided into quarters of poverty and opulence: from poor, Libre strongholds like El Carrizal to areas where Burger King and Little Caesar’s are second and third only to Juan Orlando. United States colonialism is, basically, omnipresent. American fast-food restaurants, mostly a luxury for the country’s tiny middle class, operate tax-free in the country, while those who can’t afford a Big Mac get squeezed on their electricity, for example.

The streets of Tegucigalpa tell the story of the resistance, to a degree. One tag in the city refers to the use of graffiti as a means of communicating a message: “When justice is silenced, the walls speak.”

Griekenland ‘kiest voor Neo Dimokratia’

Je snapt niet hoe het mogelijk is dat de Grieken nog kiezen voor een partij die het land in diepe ellende heeft gestort, waar ik niet eens begrijp waarom die partij, Neo Dimokratia haar naam niet heeft veranderd nadat bleek dat politici van deze partij het land in zo grote ellende hebben….. gestort… (hetzelfde geldt overigens voor de Pasok, zogenaamd socialistisch maar in werkelijkheid een neoliberale partij)

Het probleem met Griekenland is dat het land qua politieke voorkeur in tweeën is gespleten, de partij van Tsipras heeft daar even verandering in gebracht, maar de capitulatie van premier Tsipras (zogenaamd socialistische partij) voor de EU, het IMF en zware druk vanuit Washington (dat bang was dat Tsipras bij de Russen zou aankloppen voor hulp), heeft de partij dan uiteindelijk toch de kop gekost en volkomen terecht……

Griekenland heeft haar soevereiniteit moeten inleveren voor ‘hulp’ uit de EU en van het IMF, hulp in de vorm van schadeloosstelling van banken uit ons deel van Europa, die de opvolgende Griekse regeringen op de pof geld leenden, waar iedereen kon weten dat dit niet terugbetaald zou worden……

Tot na het begin van de volgende eeuw heeft het Europees Stabiliteitsmechanisme (ESM) de zeggenschap over staatseigendommen van de Grieken, die dit smerige orgaan mag verkopen voor een appel en ei als het zo uitkomt……

De bevolking is uitgedund doordat veel jongeren en gestudeerden (brain drain) het land hebben verlaten vanwege de financiële situatie en de enorme werkloosheid…..

Nogmaals: onbegrijpelijk dat men in Griekenland vooral heeft gestemd op een partij die Griekenland in diepe ellende heeft gestort….. Niet echt bemoedigend als je bedenkt dat er op de hele wereld zaken hoognodig radicaal moeten veranderen, willen we letterlijk en figuurlijk een leefbare wereld overhouden voor de generaties na ons……

Gelukkig is de Griekse neonazi partij Gouden Dageraad zo goed als weggevaagd, waar de fascisten elders in de EU de ene winst na de andere boeken….. En dit ondanks het feit dat de EU Griekenland, een straatarm land, laat barsten met een enorm aantal vluchtelingen……

Ondanks het voorgaande wil ik de Griekse bevolking die niet voor Neo Dimokratia of een andere neoliberale partij heeft gekozen, mijn welgemeende condoleances aanbieden.

Banken hebben in Davos versoepeling van regels geëist

Ongelofelijk, de brutaliteit van de bankenmaffia, die godbetert een welhaast wereldwijde crisis hebben veroorzaakt, voorafgaand en tijdens de banken- of kredietcrisis in 2008. Een crisis waarbij miljoenen mensen in diepe ellende zijn gestort, ellende waarin een groot deel van hen zich heden ten dage nog steeds bevindt (neem mensen van 40+ die werkloos werden tijdens die crisis en nooit weer aan een fatsoenlijke baan kunnen komen…)….

Vorige week tijdens het World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, heeft de bankenmaffia ‘dringend gevraagd’ de regels voor haar sector sterk te versoepelen, zodat ze de wereld nog eens in een enorme crisis kunnen storten, een crisis die al weer aan de ‘wereld voordeur’ klopt…….

De banken willen met name groter kunnen groeien en dat is precies één van de zaken waardoor de crisis van 2008 zo hard heeft huisgehouden >> met honderden miljarden aan belastinggeld werden banken gered, omdat ze zogenaamd te groot waren om om te laten vallen (‘too big to fail’ >> TBTF), anders gezegd failliet te laten gaan…. Als men dat geld had gebruikt om de klanten van banken schadeloos te stellen en onder te brengen in een staatsbank, om zo die banken wel failliet te laten gaan, hadden we vele miljarden uitgespaard!!

Overigens na alle beloften van PvdA oplichter Bos en later CDA knurft de Jager, dat banken nooit weer zo groot mochten worden, zijn deze banken, zelfs staatsbank ABN Amro, al weer een aantal jaren bezig hun banken in het buitenland uit te breiden…… Zelfs Klaas Knot, de topgraaier van toezichthouder De Nederlandse Bank, vindt het blijkbaar wel best, belachelijk genoeg nadat zijn voorganger, CDA kakzever Wellink, door geen toezicht te houden, de banken zo heeft laten groeien, dat de ellende in feite amper was te overzien…….

De bankenbuffer die een nieuwe bankencrisis zou moeten voorkomen is veel te laag, 3% waar deze volgens echte deskundigen minstens 30% zou moeten zijn….

Kortom de banken en de toezichthouders, ook die van de Europese Centrale Bank (ECB), hebben totaal niets geleerd van de bankencrisis die in 2008 losbrak en zoals gezegd zovelen in diepe ellende heeft gestort………. Neem ook het grootste deel van de Grieken, die in grote armoede zitten door het op de pof leveren van krediet aan haar opvolgende corrupte regeringen, door banken en andere financiële instellingen uit Noordwest-Europa, waartoe ik voor het gemak ook Frankrijk reken…….

Het voorgaande terwijl diezelfde arme Grieken nu de hoogste belastingdruk van de EU hebben….. De banken uit ons deel van Europa, die onverantwoord krediet leverden werden ontzien en dat ging ten koste van arme Grieken, die part nog deel hadden aan deze belachelijke en onverantwoorde kredietverlening……. Iedere imbeciel had kunnen weten dat Griekenland niet kredietwaardig was, althans zeker niet wat betreft de enorme kapitalen die werden uitgeleend…….

Alsof dit alles niet is gebeurd, hebben de banken al jaren weer een grote bek en eisen ze versoepeling van regels, terwijl de banken intussen al weer honderden financiële producten hebben ingevoerd, waar figuren als PvdA hufter Wouter Bos niets van begrijpen (die dit destijds als minister van Financiën zelf heeft toegegeven)…… Ook dat was één van de redenen voor de bankencrisis van 2008….. Hoe is het gvd mogelijk??!!!

Hetzelfde geldt voor de totale hypotheekschuld, die is intussen al weer gestegen tot boven de 700 miljard euro…. Een schuld die veel te groot is voor een land als Nederland (ook volgens de terreurorganisaties IMF en Wereldbank)…. De banken doen vrolijk mee met de huizenbubbel die is ontstaan door het moedwillig in stand houden van de woningnood, een zaak die vooral arme huurders treft, daar hun huren worden berekend aan de hand van de achterlijk hoge prijs voor koophuizen…….

Tijd voor een staatsbank die alleen burgers bedient. Kunnen de commerciële banken bedrijven bedienen en hen volpompen met krediet als het zo uitkomt, maar waar deze banken nooit weer hoeven aan te kloppen voor staatssteun!!

Je zou kunnen concluderen dat de grote meerderheid van het Nederlandse volk alweer in het pak van de banken is genaaid en dat met hulp van disfunctionerende regeringen als Rutte 1, 2 en 3 plus de alweer falende toezichthouders……

In zijn derde boek ‘The Plot to Control the World: How the US Spent Billions to Change the Outcome of Elections Around the World’, gaat Kovalik in op het beïnvloeden door de VS van verkiezingen elders, een zaak die de VS belastingbetaler al vele miljarden heeft gekost*. Mochten de resultaten van dergelijke smerige beïnvloeding door de VS niet naar wens zijn, kan je er bijna zeker van zijn, dat de VS een staatsgreep in een dergelijk land zal organiseren, het liefst via een opstand, zodat men haar smerige machinaties kan legitimeren……. Veelal gebeurt dit door eerst een ‘stille’ economische oorlog tegen zo’n land te beginnen (door sterke druk uit te oefenen op grote bedrijven die bijvoorbeeld winkelketens in zo’n land hebben en hen te dwingen de winkels niet langer te bevoorraden, zie wat dit betreft Venezuela….), ‘stil’ daar de VS dit uiteraard niet aan de grote klok hangt, gevolg is dan wel dat de bevolking de straat op zal gaan uit ontevredenheid over de persoonlijke (financiële) omstandigheden…..

Wat betreft directe staatsgrepen: neem Honduras in 2009, destijds hebben Hillary Clinton en de CIA daar een staatsgreep georganiseerd tegen de democratisch gekozen linkse regering…… Een staatsgreep die intussen aan duizenden het leven heeft gekost, daarnaast zijn er veel Hondurezen verdwenen, ofwel ook vermoord door de Junta die de VS daar parachuteerde….. Voorts zijn een enorm aantal mensen op de vlucht geslagen, o.a. richting VS (zoals het grootste deel van de Karavaan die al op weg was naar de VS, vóór de midterm verkiezingen in dat middels een genocide gestolen land…….)

Kovalik noemt ook Rusland als een land waar de VS de verkiezing van de corrupte alcoholverslaafde Jeltsin in 1996 veiligstelde met een slordige miljard dollar….. Je zou zelfs kunnen stellen dat de VS mede verantwoordelijk is voor de ‘oligarchen’ die Rusland destijds hebben leeggestolen…..

Hoe durven politici in de VS en de rest van het westen, alsmede de reguliere massamedia in het westen, nog met de vieze vingers naar Rusland te wijzen als grote manipulator van de VS presidentsverkiezingen, terwijl er geen enkel bewijs werd en wordt geleverd voor deze leugen en de VS zelf overal waar het haar uitkomt opstanden (zoals gezegd gevoed met een stille economische oorlog), staatsgrepen en illegale oorlogen organiseert, waar overigens honderden meters aan dossiers met bewijzen voor zijn te vinden, neem alleen al WikiLeaks en dan m.n. de Vault 7 en 8 documenten op deze (echte) klokkenluiderswebsite……..

(BAR) — The U.S. military state overthrows democratically-elected governments that it deems to be a threat to corporate interests.

“There is plenty of evidence that the United States is the most depraved and dangerous “meddler” in the affairs of other nations that history has ever known.”

Dan Kovalik is a labor and human rights lawyer, but most of all he is an anti-imperialist and an author of three books. Kovalik’s first two books tackled the specific US war drives against Russia and Iran. His third installment, The Plot to Control the World: How the US Spent Billions to Change the Outcome of Elections Around the World, addresses the broad scope of US election meddling abroad. The book provides much needed political and ideological life support to an anti-war movement in the U.S that has been rendered nearly invisible to the naked eye.

The Plot to Control the World is as detailed in its critique of U.S. imperialism as it is concise. In just over 160 pages, Kovalik manages to analyze the various ways that the U.S. political and military apparatus interferes in the affairs of nations abroad to achieve global hegemony. He wastes no time in exposing the devastating lie that is American exceptionalism, beginning appropriately with the U.S. imperialist occupations of Haiti and the Philippines at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. The U.S. would murder millions of Filipinos and send both nations into a spiral of violence, instability, and poverty that continues to this day. As Kovalik explains regarding Haiti, “While the specific, claimed justifications for [U.S.] intervention changed over time- e.g., opposing the end of slavery, enforcing the Monroe Doctrine, fighting Communism, fighting drugs, restoring law and order — the fact is that the interventions never stopped and the results for the Haitian people have been invariably disastrous.”

US expansionism has relied upon the ideology of American exceptionalism to silence criticism and weaken anti-war forces in the United States. American exceptionalism claims that the U.S. is a force for good in the world and completely justified in its wars of conquest draped in the cover of spreading “democracy and freedom” around the world. Kovalik challenges American exceptionalism by showing readers just how much damage that US expansionism and militarism has caused for nations and peoples in every region of the planet.Russia, Honduras, Guatemala, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Vietnam and many other nations have seen their societies devastated by U.S. “election meddling.” In Honduras, for example, a U.S.-backed coup of left-wing President Manuel Zelaya in 2009 made the nation one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist, indigenous person, or trade-union/environmental activist. Thousands of Hondurans have been displaced, disappeared, or assassinated since the coup.

Another important aspect of The Plot to Control the World is its exposure of U.S hypocrisy surrounding the subject of “election meddling.” Since the end of the 2016 Presidential elections, the U.S. military, political, and media branches of the imperialist state have accused Russia of virtually implanting Donald Trump into the Oval office. The U.S. public has been fed a steady dose of anti-Russia talking points in an apparent effort on the part of the elites to beat the drums of war with the nuclear-armed state. No evidence has been presented to prove the conspiracy, as a recent National Public Radio (NPR) analysis states plainly. However, there is plenty of evidence that the United States is the most depraved and dangerous “meddler” in the affairs of other nations that history has ever known.

Just ask the much-vaunted Russians. Kovalik devotes an entire chapter to the 1996 Presidential election in Russia that re-elected the wildly unpopular Boris Yeltsin. The fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 began an era of “shock therapy” in the newly erected Russian Federation, a euphemism for the wholesale theft and transfer of socialized wealth into the hands of oligarchs and multinational corporations. Millions would perish in Russia from an early death due to the sudden loss of healthcare, housing, jobs, and other basic services. In 1996, President Bill Clinton ensured that Yeltsin maintained his near total grip on state power in Russia by providing the Russian President with a team of U.S. political consultants and over a billion dollars’ worth of IMF monies directly to the campaign. U.S. political and monetary support allowed Yeltsin to rig the election in his favor despite his dwindling popularity. Kovalik shows that if anyone should worry about election meddling, it should be the people of Russia and not the US elites that control Washington.

The Plot to Control the World takes readers into the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the CIA’s coup of revolutionary Patrice Lumumba continues to haunt the resource rich nation in the form of endless US-backed genocide. It travels to Guatemala, where the CIA overthrow of Jacobo Arbenz led to a U.S.-backed slaughter of a quarter million Guatemalans under the auspices of several military dictatorships. Kovalik shows us that the election of the fascistic Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil was no aberration, as the U.S. was primarily responsible for the rise in fascism in Brazil through its direct role in placing the nation under the control of a military dictatorship in 1964. The military dictatorship predated the CIA’s ouster of Chile’s Salvador Allende in 1973, which handed the once socialist state to Augusto Pinochet’s murderous and repressive leadership.

The entire skeleton of the U.S. military state is on full display in The Plot to Control the World. The U.S. military state utilizes an array of tools to overthrow democratically-elected governments that it deems to be a threat to corporate interests. These tools include the U.S. intelligence agencies, so-called Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) such as the National Endowment for Democracy, and the various branches of the military itself, to name a few. Regardless of the tools employed, the mission is always the same: to destabilize independent nations that refuses to bow down to the dictates of U.S. imperialism. Thus, while Nicaragua, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Vietnam may possess unique histories, their economic and political development has been shaped by the destructive interference of the United States.

Dan Kovalik is not likely to be reviewed in the New York Timesor other corporate outlets. That’s because Kovalik unapologetically speaks out against U.S. empire and all that upholds it. In doing so, Kovalik’s The Plot to Control the World walks in the footsteps of anti-imperialists such as Michael Parenti and William Blum. Blum, a former State Department employee, spent his post-State Department life providing humanity with knowledge about how US imperialism operates on the global stage. The New York Times wasted no time in slandering Blum in their obituary . This showed the great lengths that the ruling elites will go to discredit, defame, and condemn critics of the military industrial complex and how important it is for those who oppose war let go of any expectation that the corporate media will cover Kovalik’s work or anyone else who speaks out against war.

With that said, one of the reasons that the left in the U.S. is so weak is because it has been numerically and politically isolated by the lies of the Empire. Despite the ruthlessness of the austerity and incarceration regimes, many Americans continue to be convinced that the U.S. is the most exceptional nation in the world and do not balk when its military wages wars abroad at the expense of U.S. tax dollars and civilian lives. U.S. imperialism has made sure that Americans feel that they are special colonizers who see the victims of the U.S. military state as savages worthy of slaughter. The Plot to Control the World is based on a different premise: internationalism. The book links the struggle against US imperialism to the needs of the oppressed and working class living in the heart of empire, making it an essential read for those who are sick and tired of the prevailing narrative of American exceptionalism and want to be armed with knowledge that is essential toward changing it.

De VS is bezig om binnenkort nog meer sancties op te leggen aan Iran, het gaat nu niet alleen meer om de Iran deal, maar om een verandering van regering, althans anders zijn de VS sancties niet uit te leggen…….

Het meest schunnige is wel dat de VS de Iraanse autoriteiten verwijdt haar volk te terroriseren, terwijl je daar maar één ‘land’ van kan beschuldigen, de grootste terreurentiteit op onze aarde, de VS zelf!!!

De psychopathische oorlogsmisdadiger Mattis en anderen verdraaien de werkelijkheid op zo’n belachelijk grove schaal dat het net lijkt of Iran haar eigen burgers laat sterven, terwijl de VS de werkelijke dader is……..

Zelfs levensreddende medicijnen zijn nu moeilijk te krijgen in Iran, het is werkelijk om te janken als je de voorbeelden leest in het hieronder opgenomen artikel, geschreven door Caitlin Johnstone.

Hoe is het mogelijk dat EU landen de VS niet al lang in de VN Veiligheidsraad hebben aangeklaagd voor grootschalige terreur??? En hoe is het mogelijk dat de EU Iran niet te hulp snelt……….

Het is te hopen dat het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) ten minste de enorme oorlogsmisdaden inventariseert die werden en worden begaan door de VS en onder die oorlogsmisdaden reken ik tegenwoordig ook de economische oorlogsvoering van de VS tegen landen die haar onwelgevallig zijn, zoals Iran, Venezuela en Nicaragua……… Sancties die in feite nooit de leiding van het betreffende land schaden, maar het volk van dat land, waarmee je deze sancties rustig als misdaad tegen de menselijkheid kan duiden, of zoals gezegd oorlogsmisdaden…….

De hoogste tijd dat de internationale gemeenschap de VS opdraagt haar troepen overal ter wereld terug te trekken, het barbaarse neokoloniale beleid van de VS moet gestopt worden! Bovendien dient men als de sodemieter af te stappen van de dollar als internationaal betaalmiddel (als de VS er financieel zo voor had gestaan, maar dan in de 20er jaren van de vorige eeuw, had men daar, net als destijds in Duitsland, bij wijze van spreken een kruiwagen vol met papiergeld nodig gehad om een brood te kopen…..).

De oorzaak van dat niet ingrijpen en bijvoorbeeld wel terechte sancties op te leggen aan de VS, is puur en alleen te danken aan het feit dat de dollar als internationaal betaalmiddel wordt gebruikt, terwijl de VS in feite meer dan failliet is >> de staatsschuld van de VS is niet meer in cijfers weer te geven……. Vandaar ook dat ons financiële systeem zal instorten als de dollar echt volledig onderuitgaat, iets dat welhaast niet is te voorkomen…… (ondanks dat men dit weet, worden er geen maatregelen genomen, alsof het om een konijn gaat dat in het koplicht van een aanstormende auto verstijft….)

(CJ Opinion) — The United States government is preparing to implement an additional level of sanctions against Iran for its refusal to meet a dozen demands that are so absurdly unreasonable that they have been called a regime change policy in all but name. The sanctions which have already been implemented have already badly hurt the Iranian economy, the sting of which is being felt first and foremost by Iran’s poor and sickly.

In an article titled “Iran’s poor to bear brunt of Trump’s oil sanctions”, Financial Times documents how poor Iranians are already strained to the breaking point from the cutbacks they’ve had to make in food and groceries. An article titled “In Iran, US sanctions are being felt, with harsher measures to come” by the Christian Science Monitor details difficulties Iranian charities are having getting medicine to sick children, including chemotherapy treatment, having already run out of four life-saving drugs. In an article titled “US fails to shield humanitarian trade with Iran as sanctions loom”, Al Monitor details the way humanitarian aid, while ostensibly exempt from the sanctions, has been severely impacted by their economic aspect because humanitarian aid costs money. The Wall Street Journal further explains the effects of America’s economic warfare on ordinary Iranian civilians in an article titled “Iran Moves to Shelter Millions as U.S. Sanctions Bite”.

This is before the US implements a new level of attacks upon Iran’s oil industry, a primary economic lifeline, which is scheduled to begin on November fifth. If Iran can’t find a way to get around these crushing sanctions in a significant way, many civilians already stretched far too thin will be pushed past the breaking point.

And who is the US government blaming for the consequences of its economic warfare? Why, the Iranian government, of course.

“The International Monetary Fund @IMFNews is projecting a 3.6% decline in #Iran’s economy next year,” tweeted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “That’s what happens when the ruling regime steals from its people and invests in Assad — instead of creating jobs for Iranians, they ruin the economy.”

Pompeo talks about the Iranian people a lot. A recent State Department release is packed with lines like “Iran’s actions have made the country a pariah, much to the despair of its own people”, and “clerics and officials have wrapped themselves in the cloak of religion while robbing the Iranian people blind,” and “The United States is asking every nation that is sick and tired of the Islamic Republic’s destructive behavior to stand up for the Iranian people.” But Mike Pompeo does not care about the Iranian people. Plainly.

Sanctions are so weird. Imagine if the US government had listed twelve ridiculously extreme demands of Tehran, and then when those demands weren’t met they launched a few dozen Tomahawk missiles into an Iranian suburb. And imagine, if you will, what the response would be if Secretary Pompeo had then issued a tweet saying “Boy, it sure was awful of the Iranian regime to launch those missiles at its own civilians!”

He would never do such a thing, of course, because nobody would buy it. But for some weird, entirely narrative-based reason, the US government can get away with killing the same number of civilians by depriving them of food and medicine and say it’s Iran’s fault for not bowing to Washington’s twelve demands. The civilians would be just as dead as they would have been if they were killed by Tomahawk missiles, and the US government would be just as culpable for their deaths as they would have been if they’d killed them by missile strike. We can be absolutely certain that the US government would acknowledge such economic sanctions as an act of war (which they unquestionably are) if any foreign nation ever implemented anything similar against America. But for some weird, stupid, nonsense reason, the medieval siege tactic of starving them to death and cutting them off from supplies is something that can still be blamed on a sovereign nation for refusing to obey the commands of a foreign government. For some weird, stupid, nonsense reason, sanctions are the only form of warfare where it is considered both legal and acceptable to deliberately target a civilian population with lethal force.

The responses to this Tweet caught me off guard. Thank you for the kind words. But now I feel selfish for writing it. I didn’t want or expect sympathy; I wanted to make a point about the impact of sanctions on Iran — that it’s the ordinary people who suffer. And for what?

This, by the way, is all coming after the UN’s highest court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), ordered the United States to remove any impediments to humanitarian aide in the sanctions that it has implemented, to which Washington responded by withdrawing from two international agreements which could lead to any legally binding rulings by the ICJ. Any other nation which refuses to comply with UN rulings is branded a rogue nation by the US-centralized empire and targeted for regime change, but when the US does exactly the same thing we’re meant to look at it as perfectly normal and acceptable.

The US has defended its dismissal of the ICJ ruling by citing the exemptions it has made for humanitarian aide in its sanctions, with Secretary Pompeo asserting the following:

“Existing exceptions, authorizations, and licensing policies for humanitarian-related transactions and safety of flight will remain in effect. The United States has been actively engaged on these issues without regard to any proceeding before the ICJ. We’re working closely with the Department of the Treasury to ensure that certain humanitarian-related transactions involving Iran can and will continue.”

“Not only is he not being accurate, he is lying,” Trita Parsi of the National Iranian American Council told the Real News of Pompeo’s remarks. “The Trump administration has not issued a single license since they took power. They know quite well that they’re doing everything to scare banks away from the Iranian market, which then is affecting the ability for the Iranians to pay for medicine and medical supplies, even though that is supposedly exempt. So essentially what they’re saying, hey, we made those exempt. Yes, but you have targeted the financial system so harshly, so indiscriminately, so no bank is willing to handle transactions with Iranian banks. And as a result the Iranians cannot buy medical supplies, and their medical shortages are a direct result of the sanctions.”

What will Secretary Pompeo say when civilians begin dropping dead? Will he claim that “the price is worth it”, as his predecessor Madeleine Albright said of the thousands of Iraqi children killed in sanctions upon Iraq? Will he cite the constantly recurring lie that it is because Iran is the world’s top sponsor of terrorism? Will he claim that it is because it is somehow wrong for Iran to defend its ally Syria from the violent jihadist factions who attempted to effect regime change in Damascus with western backing? Or will he just be honest, and admit that it’s because Iran has one of the few governments in the strategically crucial and resource-rich Middle East which has refused to be absorbed into the blob of the US empire?

Argentinië voor decennia in het IMF pak genaaid……..

De Argentijnse neoliberale (‘conservatieve’) regering Macri (een goede vriend van de wolf in schaapskleren paus Franciscus) heeft na een fikse lobby bij het IMF, haar handtekening gezet onder een lening van 50 miljard dollar van deze neoliberale organisatie, daarmee is het land waarschijnlijk voor decennia in het IMF pak genaaid……

Ofwel: de Argentijnen zullen afhankelijk blijven van het IMF en na een verkiezingsoverwinning van links in de nabije toekomst, zal zo’n regering in feite zo goed als niets kunnen doen voor de grote arme onderlaag in Argentinië. Nog simpeler gezegd: het IMF zal in feite het land leiden, zoals de Griekse regering (van de ‘socialistische’ verrader Tsipras*) is verworden tot een marionet van het IMF en de EU, waar de laatste twee in feite een dictatuur vormen in Griekenland…….

Daarnaast heeft Argentinië ook bij de Wereldbank en Zuid-Amerikaanse banken een lening van bijna 6 miljard dollar afgesloten…….

De VS liet vorige maand weten dat het dolblij was met de lening van het IMF voor Argentinië….. Niet zo vreemd als je ziet dat een links regeringsbeleid in de toekomst onmogelijk werd gemaakt met die lening……. Voorlopig hoeft de CIA geen ‘regime change’ (lees: staatsgreep) na te streven in Argentinië…..

Ongelofelijk, of eigenlijk schandalig dat de consequenties van die IMF lening voor het grootste deel van de Argentijnse bevolking, niet in de reguliere media is beschreven……..

Intussen is de staatsschuld van Argentinië zover opgelopen dat deze niet in afzienbare tijd zal kunnen worden afgelost, waar bovenop de regering Macri in 2016 heeft toegezegd een in feite al afgeschreven schuld uit 2001, alsnog te zullen voldoen, alsof dit in het belang is van het Argentijnse volk……..

* Al moet ik zeggen dat Tsipras waarschijnlijk is gewaarschuwd dat wanneer zijn regering niet akkoord ging, er een militaire staatsgreep zou plaatsvinden door NAVO leider VS en haar hielenlikkende NAVO lidstaten in de EU….. Als dat inderdaad zo is, had Tsipras moeten aftreden en de zaak in de media moeten gooien…… Zeker nadat hij al wist dat de armoede in Griekenland enorm groot was en velen niet eens de beschikking hadden over kanker medicatie, of pijnstillers bij chronische pijnklachten……. Aan de hiervoor beschreven situatie in Griekenland is intussen niets veranderd….. Bovendien zijn de Griekse staatseigendommen voor 99 jaar (!!!) overgedragen aan het Europees Stabiliteitsmechanisme (ESM), dat naar goeddunken deze eigendommen voor een appel en ei kan verkopen aan buitenlandse investeerders…….
